About the Team Moeller's opponent tonight will be Woodward High School. The once defeated Bulldogs were PHSL champions last year and are favored to repeat this year.Woodward defeated highly rated Hamilton Garfield team in their season's opener 18-16. Offensively the Bulldogs to watch are the fleet halfback Junior Turner, 1e Gary Sammons a strong accurate.passer, Evans the excellent )eft end, and the tough big tackle Slaughter who weighs about 240. Defensively Woodward features a rugged quick defensive line led by Bomar number 71 who weighs close to 300. Moeller rolled up 42 points on Hughes last week to win their second game of the current season. Bob Harris· senior 1¢ led the offense effectively and threw 2 TD passes. Mark Farrel scored twice and ran one point after TD to lead all scorers with 14 points. Jack Repasy caught three passes for 60 yards and one TD. Jack Crable,Dan Molina and Andy Kneipp also scored for the Crusaders. Paving the way up front for our backs the offensive line was led by center Dan Novakov, guards Mike Colvin and Mike Theisen, and tackles John Fox and Dave Heinrich. It was a fine overall offensive effort by the Moeller team. Dan Novakov was voted the ·best offensive performer by his team mates. The bright spots on the defense were linebackers Rick Bishop and Dan Humbert,Tackles Mark Andrews and Rene Molina, defensive end John Jackson and defensive back Mike Tepe. The defensive team held the Big Reds to less than 70 yards rushing, a good accomplishment against the fine Hughes ground game.

About the Team Tonight the Crusaders play Elder. Price Rill's entry in the GCL is always a rough opponent and a fine football team. This season the Panthers have only lost once and that loss came at: the hands of Roger Bacon. Elder has defeated Woodward 28-0, Portsmitb 34-22, and LaSalle 20-6. ' Offensively for Elder no. 17 the ~ J.:recting 1s one of the best in town and is an all state candidate. CarryinKqthe ball will be no. 84 Raterman and no. 19 Parker, and receiving the passes will be no.as Knoppe and Minges no. 22. Tbe Panther tackles are no.78 Geers and Christophel no. 70 they play both offense and defense and comprise the core of the tough Elder front line. Elder is rated high in the state every year and deservedly so for field an aggeeasive well coached team who play to win. Last week Moeller defeated Newport Catholic 26-0. Tim Doyle, Rick· Bishop, and Tom Langfels played tough defense for MoJller and were largely responsible for the fine defensive effort against Newport.
