Moe To Get Special Van i

by Mark Cook It is very likely that Moeller will obtain a new

special-aid van which would provide facilities for the psychology and speech therapy programs currently available to Moeller students. Business Manager, Mr. Ronald Rieman, is optimistic about the possibility of obtaining the new van. He stated that it would be available to students five days a week. The van would probably be parked on .a concrete block adjacent to the All Saints property on Glenover.

This project has been considered in the past, but the fact that the van cannot be parked on private school property has been an obstacle. This problem has been solved since the land at All Saints has been leased to the Syc-

amore School District. A SII~t on this land will be reserved for M~ller's van next to the All Saints' van which sits. there now. A problem of electric"al supply ha~ likewise been taken care of. The type of van and the details of the facilities are still undeclared at this time. Financing the purchase of the van will be made possible by monies from the Ohio Auxiliary Service. These funds will cover the cost of the van,. leasing of the land, personnel, and the necessary supplies, . Mr. Reiman hopes to have the facility operabie Jefore the close of this school year.

Moe Welcomes CLass of '83 by Mike Weitfle On Friday, January 12, three hundred and fortysix eighth grade boys from local grade schools came to Moeller for a day of testing and orientation.

Shortly after 8:00 AM, the eighth grade students gathered in the gym to be welcomed by Moeller's principal, Rev. Lawrence Krusling. After the welcome, the testing began.

having caddied faithfully for at least two years, must be in the top 25% of their class, show a ,eed for some financial aid, and submit several .etters of recommendation.

Around noon the visitors received a free lunch. They were then taken on a brief tour of the school by . Moeller students who volunteered their free day to ltelp with the orientation and testing.

:The f"mal aspect of selection is an interview of :the candidates by the scholarship committee. \Mr. Crone, a former Evans scholar from Moeller, lis a member of this committee. All facts and information gained from this process are used to select the new Evans scholars. Once a student receives the scholarship, he must maintain at least a 2.2 scholastic average, perform jobs at the Evans House, participate in the extracurricular activites at the house and on campus, and maintain good relations with the other scholars. This scholarship is an excellent means for deserving high school students to attend college. THE CRUSADER congratulates these men for their outstanding scholastic achievement and wishes them well in uocoming years ~~;t college.

The physics and chemistry labs, the computer room, the chapel, the band room and the typing room were some of the landmarks of the tour. During the course of the afternoon, each academic department outlined its aims and purposes in presentations to the prospective students. At approximately 2:00 PM, an audiovisual presentation about Moeller High School was shown to the eighth graders. After this they were dismissed. When asked about the Orientation and Testing Day, Father Krusling expressed his feelings that the annual program has a very positive purpose. It shows the potential men of Moeller that high school is not all fun and games. "It helps them realize what high school is really like."
