The City of Bozeman Parks and Recreation Department offers a variety of classes, activities and events for people of all ages regardless of race, color, religion, sex, national origin or disability.

Please see individual sections and program listings for age-specific guidelines, policies and accessibility.

Fees are listed with each individual class or event throughout the guide.

Please note: Scholarships are available to city of Bozeman residents ages 18 and under.

HOW TO REGISTER

• ePACT is a secure emergency network that we use to collect medical and emergency contact information electronically. ePACT replaces paper forms and ensures we have a way to communicate with you in the event of an illness, injury or larger-scale emergency. PROGRAM CANCELLATION POLICY

• Refunds for cancellations will not be given unless injury or illness prevents participation.

• If you need to cancel out of a program, a cancellation request must be made 10 days before the start of the program to receive a credit on your Parks and Recreation Department account. Credits can be used toward future programs.

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

• Preregistration is required for most programs and events.

• Participants must be the required age by the first day of the program.

• Siblings may only participate if they are the required age and are registered for the program.

• If you are unable to register due to full enrollment, you may request to be put on a waiting list and no fee will be charged until registration is confirmed. You will be notified by phone if you are on a waiting list and a spot has opened.

Bozeman Fire Station 2 (located at 410 S. 19th) was once at the edge of our city limits.

• Our community has grown from 18,000 residents to over 50,000, with the city limit boundaries expanding to the south as well.

• The new 12,000 sq. ft. station would be built on the Montana State University campus next to the MSU police department.

• The proposed relocation is part of the City’s Fire Protection Master Plan and an action to improve response times to our rapidly growing community.

• Dedicated funding for improvements to Bogert Pool, Bozeman Swim Center, and Lindley Center.

• All three facilities require needed repairs and upgrades to meet the needs of our growing community.

Aquatics

Swim Center General Information and Events

Bozeman Swim Center

Location: 1211 W. Main St. Contact: 406-582-2294

The Bozeman Swim Center is a 50-meter, 8-lane indoor aquatic facility that is open year-round. From mid-August to mid-March it is divided into a 25-yard pool and a 25-meter pool. The crystal-clear water is kept at 82 degrees. Our spacious pool is outfitted with life jackets, recreation toys and water fitness equipment to offer a variety of aquatic activities to the Bozeman community. The aquatic center hosts a variety of events throughout the year (posted at the facility and on our website). Swim Center programs include Water Fitness, Lap Swimming, Recreation Swimming and Open Boating. Closures for events and maintenance are posted at the facility, on the website and on our Facebook page, or give us a call.

Montana Health Code: Non-swimmers and children under the age of 14 shall not use the pool without a responsible adult (18 years or older) in attendance.

Lesson Fees: City of Bozeman Residents $25 Nonresidents $35

Parent-Tot/Angelfish: For youth ages 6 months through 3 years and a parent or two. Have fun learning how to prepare your child for a lifetime of swimming. Parents will be in the water with their child playing fun games and learning proper holding techniques. A MT Health Codeapproved swim diaper is required.

Preschool/Clownfish: For children ages 3 to 4 who can be in a class without needing a parent in the water.

Youth Lessons: For ages 5 and up. Classes are divided based on ability. Please follow the flowchart to determine the best level of class for your swimmer; swimmers must be able to complete all certification requirements to move to the next level.

Level 6 – Orca Lifeguard Preparation and Swim Workout: This new program is geared toward improving endurance and technique with all strokes. Swimmers will also be introduced to basic lifeguarding skills and equipment.

Please note that swim lesson instructors may transfer students to a different level after assessing their ability.

Active Aging Programs Call 406-582-2290 FOR MORE INFORMATION and FEES Our fitness classes are taught in a small group setting by certified Senior Fitness Instructor Cheryl Bartholomew of Seniors ‘N Sync, LLC. Classes are held at the Story Mill Community Center, 600 Bridger Dr.

Program FUSION 4 FUNCTION This full-body workout combines stretch and strength, using traditional and modified movements adapted from yoga and Pilates. You may need to bring a stability ball, mat and free weights.

HEART AND SOLE Performed to music, this lively seated workout (standing is optional) is comprised of a warm-up, an aerobic component and cool down segments. A variety of fun props (maracas, scarves, balls and more) are incorporated and enhance movement and create a unique and enjoyable experience.

BALANCE AND MOBILITY This class uses poles to stretch and strengthen the upper and lower body by incorporating seated, standing and walking exercises that engage the core and whole body to improve posture and walking gait. Fall prevention/functional fitness exercises are introduced that help improve balance and stability.

SENIOR FITNESS ASSESSMENTS Clinically proven evaluations to determine current or potential issues related to strength, agility, flexibility, balance and aerobic endurance.

Fun for Families MOOSE ON THE LOOSE We are requesting the help of citizens in the attempt to locate a Parks and Recreation moose on the loose! It’s been spotted enjoying the many trails in Bozeman’s parks and open spaces. This fall (starting in September), the moose will be on the move every Friday, so your weekend adventures may get even more interesting! You can help the search by enjoying Bozeman’s trails, being friendly to others on the trails and taking selfies when you find the moose. Tag us @BozemanParksandRec and give it the hashtag #mooseontheloose to enter our photo contest.

Revisit old trails, discover new ones and have some FUN looking for the moose. The search is on!

BUMBLEWOOD THICKET (ALL AGES) The fairies are returning to Bozeman this fall and rumor has it that the Fairy Village is going to be extra magical (and extra big) this year. Bumblewood Thicket will only be visible to human eyes from August 28 to September 12. Located amid the winding, wooded paths of the Glen Lake Recreation Area, it will contain 20 different fairy homes and business establishments created by talented Bozeman artists, designers, makers and dreamers. New this year will be an original “walking play” inspired by the Fairy Village, with limited times and tickets available.

CITY OF BOZEMAN BLOCK PARTY Join the City of Bozeman’s Neighborhood Program, Parks and Recreation Department and Bozeman Public Library for a block party on Tuesday, September 28 for Good Neighbor Day. The block party will be held at Oak Springs Park (on Yellowstone Avenue and Renova Lane) starting at 4 p.m. Stop by for yard games, BPL’s bookmobile, Bozeman Parks and Recreation’s Rec Mobile, snacks, music and more. A perfect way to get outside and get to know your city-wide neighbors! Everyone welcome.

FALL FEASTIVAL Join Gallatin Valley Farm to School, Bozeman Parks and Recreation Department, and other community partners for a FREE day of fall activities to celebrate local agriculture and kick off Farm to School month. Bring the whole family along to Story Mill Community Park, where you can participate in games, learning and other fun activities to celebrate fall harvest time and the bounty of our community.

PUMPKIN STROLL-DROP AND GLOW We invite you to share your Spooktacular creation during our first Community Pumpkin Stroll in Story Mill Park. Carve a pumpkin in the comfort of your own home, drop it off during our office hours on Wednesday, October 27, and we will add a tea light and make it glow. Jack-o’-lanterns will be placed along the grand lawn trail between 6 and 9 p.m. for all to enjoy. Hot cider will be provided.

WITCHES NIGHT AT THE STORY MANSION The porch of the historic Story Mansion on 811 S. Willson Ave. will be transformed on Halloween Night and full of witches who will delight and not fright! Afterschool Programs The Rec Mobile was created to SAFELY bring supervised recreation opportunities to children in neighborhood parks all across Bozeman and is back. Recreation Leaders will be on hand to lead activities and will provide all of the equipment needed. The goal of this FREE program is easy access to recreation for ALL children, especially those who might not otherwise have the opportunity to participate in our programs without us bringing them to parks within walking distance of their home or school.

Location The Rec Mobile will visit different city parks throughout the year.

YOUTH PICKLEBALL LESSONS – THIRD-EIGHTH GRADE Are you new to pickleball? If so, these lessons are for you. All aspects of the game will be taught from stroke mechanics, rules, strategy and more. There will be plenty of time to hone your skills and play games. This is an excellent opportunity to start playing pickleball and to meet people of similar skill level. Equipment will be provided and fun will be had by all!

DESTINATION: OUTDOORS! SEPTEMBER 27 Summer vacation may be over, but there is still some exploring to do in Story Mill Community Park. We will grab our field guides, hit the trails and get to know the sanctuary between two rivers.

ON THE MOVE: BOARDS, BIKES AND BOULDERS OCTOBER 21 Put on your sneakers for this camp on wheels (and rocks). We will kick off the morning on bikes with plenty of time for climbing on our boulder in Story Mill Community Park. After lunch, we will be setting up ramps in the Story Mill Community Center gym for skateboards and scooters. Bring your skateboards, bikes, helmets and scooters if you have them.

OCTOBERFEST OCTOBER 22 There is a chill in the air and winter will be arriving soon. Before it does, we are having an end of the season fall festival. We will have sack races, hula hoop contests, bean bag tosses, old fashion pieeating contests, healthy corndog snacks, face paint, leaf art,tree rubbings and more. SPOOKY SPORTS OCTOBER 28 Boo! We will play a game of Halloweenthemed kickball in the park, play ghost in the graveyard, wrap our friends up like mummies for spooky relay races, play a round of pumpkin golf, go on a Halloweenthemed scavenger hunt and play a variety of other spooky games.

SPOOK-TACULAR OCTOBER 29 We are having a Halloween party! Grab your costumes, you will need them in this camp.

We will dance to the Monster Mash, play Halloween-themed carnival games, carve pumpkins, create spooky rock art for the trails, snack on healthy treats and more.

Spooktacular FUN! TURKEY WOBBLE NOVEMBER 24 Gobble Gobble let’s see you wobble!

This camp will keep you active with Thanksgiving-themed games, crafts and dancing. We will play flag football, create a decorative centerpiece for our family’s Thanksgiving table and so much more.

Oh, and let’s not forget the fresh turkey sandwiches with all the fixings for lunch and that slice of pie for afternoon snack.

CREATIVE BY DESIGN JANUARY 17 We are all creative by design and this camp will give you the opportunity to express your creative side through different art mediums.

We will sketch, paint, build fairy and gnome homes with recycled materials, draw a group mural to put up in our community center and design the ultimate winter playground.

GAMES FROM AROUND THE WORLD JANUARY 24-25 Ever wonder what games children play in other countries? We will have the opportunity in this camp to learn about other cultures and the sports and games that are popular in the regions of the country where they live. We will compare the games we know well here in Bozeman to the new ones we played. Were the games passed down from previous generations or do they help children learn life skills? There is so much to learn just playing new games. Get your game on for this camp.

PRESIDENTS DAY PARTY FEBRUARY 21 On President’s Day will be celebrating why we love the USA, Parks & Recreation style. We will make red, white and blue decorations for our afternoon gala, play the many games that we love here in the USA, go on a President’s Day scavenger hunt, and end the day with our very own President’s Day gala. Don’t forget to wear your favorite red, white and blue party attire for this camp.

FROSTED FLAKES DECEMBER 20-22 Let’s take a close look at a bowl full of frosted flakes—oh, you thought the cereal, right? Nope, we are taking an in-depth look at snow. SKATE WITH SANTA

Join us to meet and skate with the big man himself, Santa Claus! He will have a handful of elves at the rink to help assist on the ice. Families will have an opportunity to skate on the decorated ice rink to holiday music. Children will have the opportunity to give Santa their holiday wish list and take photos with him. Don’t forget your camera! Dress warm, wear your skates and helmets and we will ask the elves to do the rest — they will be serving hot cocoa too! Pre registration is required and space is limited.

Bozeman Beacon Park and Awareness Classes The Bozeman Parks and Recreation Department and the Friends of the Gallatin National Forest Avalanche Center will open the Bozeman Beacon Park in Beall Park, 415 N. Bozeman Ave., in January when snow depth allows. The park will be open from 9 a.m.-9 p.m., seven days a week and will be free to the public. The Beacon Park provides a great opportunity for people of all ages to hone their avalanche rescue skills. The park will be equipped with three buried transceivers. Users will be able to turn on one, two or all three and use their personal transceiver and probe to locate the buried ones.
