Measurements are given in centimeters, height x width x depth
Leonardo da Vinci called music "the sister of painting". These two art forms developed in parallel, engaging with each other no less than painting and literature. Musicians playing music, and their musical instruments were a beloved theme for artists throughout the epochs. Ancient bas-reliefs and vases picturing musicians are followed by medieval frescoes and icons of angels playing musical instruments. In this epoch artists create paintings, the protagonists of which are concert goers, while the musical instruments themselves become the "heroes" of still-lifes. The theme of musicians and musical instruments retained its attractiveness for modern painters, graphics and photographers. New forms and genres appear parallel in music as well as in art: the rhythm of jazz and soul, modern atonal music, the energy of rock — the same pattern can be glimpsed in the search of new forms by artists of the 20th and the beginning of the 21st century. Exactly because of that this theme is an inexhaustible resource for exhibitions. This time around, in the three exhibitions "Music and Paintings" we tried to show not only works on a "musical" subject but also show the rhythm of music, the form of musical pieces in paintings, photography, in a small form even where there is no depiction of musicians or musical instruments. Thus the first and third exhibitions were devoted to the plasticity of the participants and the musical instruments themselves with their unique "sounding" form. While on the second exhibition of this cycle exclusively scenery was presented, which we also chose according to their rhythmical build, and their inner sound. This became possible because in musical and pictorial compositions follow a similar pattern. Thus, just like for a visual series rhythm and movement, for music color and symmetry are important. We talked about the line in pictorial arts, but also about the melodic line in music, about the proportions of both. Music on itself is also capable of "painting". That's why on the vernissages of our exhibitions musicians were invited, which best exemplified the "tonality" of the exhibition. Thus, the first exhibition was accompanied by the famous Jerusalem pianist, lecturer at the The Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance Michael Mereminsky. The second exhibition where many city landscapes were presented, was "voiced" by the rhythms of Jazz compositions by the brilliant saxophonist Elena Odintsovoi. While on the third exhibition the guitar was heard by the great guitarist Michael Suda. Sound to visual associations and vice versa are often experienced by artists and musicians alike. And that is one of the mysteries of creativity, which is so important to share with the public and the artists and the musicians. Леонардо да Винчи называл музыку «сестрой живописи». Эти два вида искусства развивались параллельно, соприкасаясь не менее тесно, чем живопись и литература. Музыканты, музицирование, музыкальные инструменты служили излюбленной моделью для изобразительного искусства разных эпох. Античные барельефы и вазы с изображением музыкантов сменяются средневековыми фресками и иконами с музицирующими ангелами. В эпоху Возрождения художники пишут картины, персонажи которых — участники концертов, а сами музыкальные инструменты становятся "героями" натюрмортов. Тема музыкантов и музыкальных иструментов сохранила свою привлекательность и для современных живописцев, графиков, фотографов. Новые формы и жанры появляются параллельно и в музыке, и в живописи: ритмы джаза и соула, современной атональной музыки, надрыв рока — все это можно проследить и в поисках новых форм у художникоа 20го — начала 21го века. Именно поэтому эта тема совершенно неисчерпаема для выставочных проектов. На этот раз в трех выставках фестиваля "Музыка и живопись" мы постарались показать не просто работы на "музыкальную" тему, но уловить ритмы музыки, формы музыкальных произведений в живописных работах, художественых фотографиях, малых формах даже там, где напрямую нет изображений музыкантов или музыкальных инструментов. Так, первая и третья выставки были посвящены пластике исполнителей и самим музыкальным инструментам с их необыкновенной "звучащей" формой. На второй же выставке этого цикла были представлены исключительно пейзажи, которые мы тоже отбирали по принципу их ритмического построения, их внутреннего звучания. Это оказалось возможным потому, что в музыкальной и живописной композиции часто действуют сходные закономерности. Так же, как для изобразительного ряда важен ритм и движение, для музыки важны колорит и симметрия. Мы говорим о линии в изобразительном искусстве, но также о мелодической линии в музыке, о пропорциях и там и здесь. Музыка и сама великолепно умеет "живописать". Поэтому на вернисажи наших выставок были приглашены музыканты, которые лучше всего отражали "тональность" самой экспозиции. Так, первую выставку сопровождал известный иерусалимский пианист, преподаватель Академии им. Рубина Михаил Мереминский. Вторая выставка, где было представлено много городских пейзажей, была «озвучена» ритмами джазовых композиций в исполнении блестящей саксофонистки Елены Одинцовой. А на третьей выставке звучала классичекая гитара в исполнении замечательного гитариста Михаила Суда. Есть такое понятие — хромостезия или цветной слух, при котором отдельные тона и тональности музыкального произведения ассоциируются с определенными цветами, а цвета с определенной тональностью. И это одна из загадок творчества, которым так важно поделиться с публикой и художникам, и музыкантам... Марина Шелест, куратор Фестиваль проводится при поддержке Министерства Абсорбции Израиля и существующего при нем Центра абсорбции репатриантов-деятелей искусств.

Skizza Gallery, Jerusalem Skizza Gallery in the Jerusalem House of Quality Art-Centre was established in May 2007. This project was created and is co-run by the two art curators Marina Genkina and Marina Schelest as well as by artist Shmuel (Anatoly) Schelest. The Gallery is divided into two part: Shmuel’s Studio and a little garden which is active only during the summer. Large exhibitions (as well as wintertime large group activities) are held in the Exhibition Hall of the Jerusalem House of Quality. During its existence, the Gallery performed a manifold of exhibitions, a series of concerts, copious amounts of Musical evenings as well as lectures and Movie screenings. So, with the help of the Ministry of Absorption (Centre for the Absorption of artists – new repatriates) three serious projects were brought to life: "From the Countries of Migration" (20082013, every exhibition shows the creativity of artists from one of those countries) "ART… АРТ … – "ארטan annual Festival of Contemporary Israeli Art, from 2012 up to now. "Jerusalem’s Rainbow" – an annual festival of thematic exhibitions, from 2013 up to now. “Skizza” also develops projects: "Wanderings of the Sons of Israel" has traveled the world: Jerusalem, Israel (2009), Koln-Mainz-Chemnitz, Germany (2011), Dnipropetrovsk-Kiev, Ukraine (2012), Jerusalem, Israel (2013). The said project was done with the aid of the Fund “Genesis” and Ministry of Information and Diaspora of Israel. "Adam, where are thou?", 2014 with the participation of Israel’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Culture of Georgia. The exhibition "Adam, where are thou?" was successfully shown in the Tbilisi Academy of Arts Exhibition Halls, and has generated so much interest that it has become the beginning of a much bigger project – the exchange of art exhibitions of Israeli and Georgian artists between said countries. The activities of the Skizza Gallery were numerously reported by the Israeli Media.

Gregory Khatin
Born 1947, Leningrad (now St. Petersburg), Russia, USSR. After serving in the army went to Polytechnic Institute. There also worked in the photographic laboratory. Since 1974 — worked in the restoration shop as photographer. Since 1978 — collaborated with publishers "Aurora", "Artist of the RSFSR," "Art", "Music", "Lenizdat", "Slavia", “P-2” etc. Photographs of Khatin were published in more than 50 albums and books in Russia, which were displayed at various exhibitions books in Moscow, Frankfurt-on-Main and others. ליאונרדו דה וינצ'י כינה את המוסיקה "אחותו של הציור" .שתי האמנויות הללו התפתחו במקביל ונגעו זו בזו לא פחות משהציור נגע בספרות .מוסיקאים ,עשיית המוסיקה ,כלי המוסיקה היוו מודל שהיה לחביבה של אמנות הציור בתקופות השונות .תבליטים ואגרטלים עם ציורי מוסיקאים מן התקופה העתיקה הקלאסית מפנים את מקומם לפרסקאות ואיקונין מימי הביניים נושאי מלאכים מזמרים ומנגנים במיטב כלי נגינה .בתקופת הרנסנס נוצרות תמונות שהדמויות שעליהן עורכות קונצרטים של נגינה בצוותא בעוד כלי הנגינה עצמם הופכים ל"גיבורי" הטבע הדומם. נושא המוסיקה וכלי הנגינה ממשיך להיות אטרקטיבי גם בעיני ציירים ,גרפיקאים וצלמים של היום .צורות וז'אנרים שונים מופיעים במקביל הן במוסיקה והן באמנות החזותית :מקצבי הג'אז והבלוז ,מסתורי המוסיקה האטונאלית של המאה ה ,20-התפרצויות של מוסיקת הרוק — את כל אלה אפשר למצוא אצל אמני הציור של המאות ה 20-וה 21-העסוקים בחיפוש אחר צורות חדשות. זו הסיבה לכך שנושא זה יכול להוות מקור בלתי נדלה כשיוצרים בפרויקטים לתערוכות. הפעם ,בשלוש התערוכות של הפסטיבל "מוסיקה וציור" ,השתדלנו לא רק להציג עבודות על נושאי מוסיקה אלא גם לקלוט את מקצביה של המוסיקה ,את הצורות של היצירות המוסיקליות בעבודות של ציור ,צילום אמנותי והצורה הזעירה — אפילו במקומות בהם מוסיקאים וכלי נגילה אינם מגולמים במישרין. וכך ,התערוכה הראשונה והשלישית הוקדשו לפלסטיקה של המבצעים ולכלי נגינה עצמם עם צורותיהם ה"מצלצלות" המיוחדות .ואילו התערוכה השנייה בסדרה הייתה על טהרת נופים שגם אותם בחרנו על בסיס העיקרון של מבנה קצבי ,של נימתם הפנימית. דבר התאפשר משום שגם בקומפוזיציה מוסיקלית וגם בזו הציורית פועלים חוקים דומים .וכשם שבנדבך החזותי חשובים המקצב והתנועה ,כך במוסיקה ישנה חשיבות לגוון ולסימטריה .אנחנו מדברים על קו באמנות החזותית אבל גם על קו מלודי במוסיקה ,ופרופורציות ישנן גם בזו וגם בזו. המוסיקה עצמה יודעת היטב להיות "ציורית" .לכן ,לאירועי הפתיחה של התערוכות שלנו הוזמנו מוסיקאים ששיקפו נאמנה את ה"טונאליות" של כל התצוגה כולה. וכך ,את התערוכה הראשונה שלנו ליווה פסנתרן ירושלמי נודע המלמד באקדמיה למוסיקה ,מיכאל מרמינסקי. התערוכה השנייה שבה הוצגו נופים עירוניים לרוב ,לוותה במקצבים של קומפוזיציות ג'אז בביצועה של הסקסופוניסטית המבריקה ילנה אודינצובה. ובתערוכה השלישית ,נשמעו צלילי הגיטרה הקלאסית בנגינתו של הגיטריסט המופלא מיכאל סוד .ישנו מושג סתזיה או "שמיעה צבעונית" ,כאשר כרומ ֶ ֶ הנקרא צלילים בודדים ואף סולמות טונאליים שלמים ביצירה מוסיקאלית מתקשרים עם צבעים מסוימים ,והצבעים יוצרים זיקה עם טונאליות זו או אחרת .זוהי אחת החידות ביצירה שכל כך חשוב לנו לשתף בה את הקהל ,הציירים והמוסיקאים... מרינה שלסט ,אוצרת הפסטיבל מתקיים בתמיכת המשרד לקליטת העלייה והמרכז לקליטת אמנים עולים ותושבים חוזרים הפועל לצידו. 49
