Q: WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE PLACE TO SEND FIRST-TIME VISITORS TO LAS VEGAS? A: The first place to check out
People think Vegas is about gambling and only gambling. It’s so much more than that.
Q: WHAT YOUR FAVORITE HIDDEN GEM IN LAS VEGAS? A: I don’t think many people
would be the “Welcome To Las Vegas” sign. You really can’t get any more iconic than that. It’s a great place to start your trip as you plan you way down the strip. Also great for a selfie or two.
know of Battista’s Hole in the Wall. Where else can you get to experience that old fashion Vegas feeling? Very good Italian food can be found here. A great perk is that every meal includes a bottle of wine.
Q: WHERE SHOULD VISITORS GO FOR SELFIES? A: The Skyfall Lounge at Delano
Q: WHERE IS YOUR FAVORITE SPECIAL OCCASION SPOT? A: I am a huge fan of sushi. A
has some really great strip views. Plenty of tall windows will never get in the way of that perfect selfie. One can pretty much see most of the strip from those views. While you’re there, enjoy a cocktail and listen to the resident dj.
EXPERT TIP
The best place to watch the game even if you can’t score tickets, is on the big tvs at Toshiba Plaza located at the T-Mobile Arena.
place I constantly go back to is Yama Sushi. They have three convenient locations. It’s also very affordable for all you can eat. You won’t be disappointed with the service or huge selection of sushi they offer.
Q: WHAT IS THE BEST WAY FOR COUPLES TO EXPLORE VEGAS? A: I would recommend a romantic
helicopter tour from Maverick. They offer not only the best aerial views of the strip, but the surrounding areas as well. Q: WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE SPOT FOR PEOPLE-WATCHING? A: I love going to Fashion Show
Mall. Not only can you find some

really awesome deals, but visitors from all over the world shop there. Never a dull day to do some window shopping and people watching. Q: WHAT ARE SOME MUST-DO THINGS IN LAS VEGAS RIGHT NOW? A: If you are a fan of Tim Burton,
go check out his exhibit currently at the Neon Museum. You can see sculptures inspired from his films as well as original works. While you there, treat yourself to the Neon graveyard to see signs of Vegas past. The best time to go is at night to fully enjoy when all the signs are all lit up. Q: WHERE SHOULD FANS GO TO WATCH SPORTS IN LAS VEGAS? A: Whenever the Golden Knights

SAHARA WAS MOVED TO PG 13
Q: WHERE SHOULD NATURE LOVERS GO? A: Nothing can beat the Springs
Preserve. This is a great place to learn all about Nevada nature at its’ best. The best thing is that it’s open every day with new activities added all the time. Perfect for any nature fan who enjoys the desert life. Q: WHAT IS ONE SPOT THAT KEEPS GUESTS COMING BACK TO LAS VEGAS? A: I would recommend visiting the
Bellagio Conservatory Gardens. This is a free exhibit that changes with the seasons. You’ll be amazed at all the floral that goes into making this exhibit. The first of the year is the best time to see the newest animal represented from the Chinese New year.

LAS VEGAS 19
A LITTLE INTRODUCTION ON LAS VEGAS Situated within the Clark County at the basin floor of the Mojave desert with its rocky and arid landscape and surrounded by mountain ranges on all sides, who would have known that Las Vegas would what it is as of the present. Due to this, the city can be easily subjected to floods and other calamities brought by storms or typhoons. At the same time Nevada, the state where Las Vegas is located in a seismically active location. This means that the city is prone to frequent earthquakes and is even expected to suffer heavily from one soon. This is why it is such a wonder why its founders chose to erect a city in a place that has high chances of experiencing various calamities. Surprisingly, Las Vegas withstood the test of time and became known as the city of gamblers, entertainers, and rich businessmen.

URBAN PLANNING IN LAS VEGAS The most fascinating thing about Las Vegas is the fact that it managed to thrive well even it was situated in an unfavorable location which has unwelcoming geography, topography, and climate. As one takes a tour around the city, it can be inferred that perhaps its successful development is due to excellent urban planning. The city’s urban planning has drastically changed for the past 50 years and continues to do so until today. As of the present, urban planning in Las Vegas is focused on the mix of re-urbanization, neighborhood revitalization, economic diversity, and cultural enhancement, The city is continuing to develop in order to boost growth and uplift the lives of its inhabitants and of its tourists. Innovations that promote economic diversity are constantly explored. Traditions and customs are kept in check for them not to be forgotten as the city enters dives deeper towards modernization
GO OFF THE BEATEN PATH
Las Vegas- a bustling city located in the middle of the desert. It is a place where gambling, shopping, dining, entertainment, and nightlife are fused into one memorable experience for those who visit it. It is a popular place due to the various casinos found within and memorable boxing events that are held on its luxurious hotels. Most people who are not familiar in the city think that the gambling, the glamorous late-night parties, and the blinding city lights are the only things that make it special. They are absolutely mistaken. Las Vegas-the city that will never ever sleep is more special than you think. Farah Lopez

THE WORLD’S BIGGEST THEME PARK Casinos and hotels are designed to be monumental wonders within the city. The construction of Mirage in 1989 and Mandalay in 1999 introduced very innovative architecture in the city of Las Vegas. Mirage, for example, featured a working model of a volcano, Siberian Tigers and microcosmic rain forests. Following this, various replicas of tourist attractions all over the world were made such as the Eiffel Tower, New York City Skyline, The Great Pyramid of Giza and the Valley of Kings in Egypt. With these, the city itself became a giant theme park-the likes which an individual has never seen before
CULTURAL LIFE IN LAS VEGAS Unlike most cities, Las Vegas has a very little population of traditional civic cultural institutions. Meaning only a few of its population embrace the joy of public performances of orchestras, theatrical performance, and art museums.
Instead, life within the city revolves around the entertainment brought upon by casinos and hotels. It is common for its inhabitants to talk casually about their experience in the casino on the previous night. The majority of the youth are honing their skills in dancing or building up their talents to stand up comedy shows. At night, it is common to see festivities being held in the streets such as frivolous dancing performances performed by various entertainers. The entertainment industry within the city is bustling and thriving well and those who are in it are considered to be on the peak of their career and are constantly facing tough competition.
VARIOUS PLACES TO VISIT The casinos and hotels are not the only attractions that the city has to offer. The following are other places besides casinos and hotels that you might want to visit: Valley of Fire State Park Founded in 1935, this state park found in Las Vegas is considered to be the oldest of its kind in the state of Nevada. The meeting of red sandstone monoliths and the Mojave desert is truly a sight to behold. The theme park also is a witness to Nevada’s rich history. Petroglyphs dating back to 3000 years ago, tell the whereabouts of the Anasazi people. The presence of petrified trees attests to the fact that in the past the area was lush in vegetation. While here, one can engage in various activities such as camping, hiking, picnicking and photography. Lake Mead National Recreation Area The contrast between water and desert, mountains and flat lands, blue skies and color desert will make an unforgettable visit to Lake Mead. With over 500 miles of shoreline, a holiday spend in Lake Mead will consist of world-class fishing, boating, swimming, kayaking, scuba diving, hiking camping, desert vistas and roadside sightseeing. Visiting Lake Mead Visitor Center is also an experience that one shouldn’t miss for it has interactive exhibits and historical artifacts as displays. Red Rock Canyon Scenic Byway The scenic drive is a 13 mile , one way loop locate of State Highway. Going by car or by riding a bicycle are the best way to tour the scenic drive and enjoy its scenery to the fullest. Touring along the loop, one will find picnic areas, rock climbing areas and scenic view pullouts. Aside from casinos Las Vegas has other special features to offer. Las Vegas is a city which specializes in wonderful urban planning, monumental wonders which make give it the aura of being a theme park, a unique culture differing among others and lots of wonderful locations which make one realize the beauty of mother nature. Las Vegas is a place that will make anyone want for more.

Part restaurant, part lounge and all show, it’s set against the backdrop of the Bellagio Fountains and will return guests to the glamour of the daysgone-by supper club—Vegas style, of course. WHERE TO EXPLORE
FREMONT STREET THE STRIP
The Strip
Art District
When people think of Las Vegas, they almost invariably think of the Strip, even though the famous four-mile (6.5-kilometer) stretch of hotel-casinos along Las Vegas Boulevard isn’t actually in the city of Las Vegas. Like much of the metropolitan area, it’s actually in an unincorporated area of Clark County. Generally bound by the Stratosphere to the north and Mandalay Bay to the south, the Strip features tens of thousands of hotel rooms and gambling of every type to suit every guest. For instance, Siegfried and Roy’s Secret Garden at the Mirage Hotel gives you and your young ones the chance to watch white tiger and lions relaxing in the shade. Plus, you can also watch bottlenose dolphins swim and play at the hotel’s dolphin sanctuary. It’s also home to dozens of world-class restaurants and gorgeous showrooms that host resident performances from artists such as Celine Dion, Cher, Lady Gaga, Aerosmith and
24
Cirque du Soleil. Host to the Vegas Golden Knights NHL team and the Las Vegas Aces WNBA team, the neighborhood is also home to the High Roller observation wheel, endless shopping—from high-end couture to novelty gift—and much more.
Fremont Street/ Downtown Vegas
Las Vegas began downtown, which for years was the hub of both civic life and the tourist trade. These days, downtown is the place where tourists and residents mingle at classic hotel-casinos such as El Cortez, the Golden Nugget, the Plaza and the Golden Gate, which is the oldest hotel in Las Vegas (it opened in 1905). Most of downtown’s hotel-casinos sit along Fremont Street, part of which is covered by the cheesy but endearing Fremont Street Experience canopy, which displays light shows every night. Whether you are playing or not, pay a visit to Main Street Hotel and Casino
to check out their interesting display of artifacts – they even have a chunk of the Berlin Wall. Want an insight into the city’s history but don’t feel like entering a museum? Take a stroll along Fremont East and find interesting bits of information about Las Vegas history etched on the 18 bronze medallions implanted in the pavement. Fremont is the place to visit if you’re in the hunt for trendy bars such as The Griffin and Commonwealth. Here, you’ll also find hip restaurants and cultural outposts like The Bunkhouse Saloon and record store 11th Street Records. Downtown is far more than just Fremont Street; it’s also a residential area with a mix of luxury high-rises and vintage Vegas homes. Also, it’s still the center of local government, which means that anyone getting married in Vegas has to come downtown for a license, leading to the proliferation of quickie downtown wedding chapels. Other Highlights: Neon Museum, El Portal Movie Theatre, Photo with
W HE RE T R AVE LE R ® LAS VEGAS
The 18-block area of downtown Las Vegas known as the Arts District first earned that designation thanks to the Arts Factory, a converted industrial building now home to various art galleries and shops. The Arts District grew from there, with other galleries and artists’ collectives sprouting up nearby and artists moving into the affordable housing close to their showrooms. The monthly First Friday helped popularize the Arts District as the center of Vegas’s alternative culture. It now encompasses the funky stretch of Main Street that mixes antique shops with bars, such as Velveteen Rabbit and ReBAR (itself a combination of a bar and an antique shop), plus up-and-coming culinary destinations like Esther’s Kitchen. While East Fremont is downtown’s loud, boisterous entertainment center, the Arts District is the more laid-back gem.

that Las Vegas is otherwise known for. Founded by the Howard Hughes Corporation (and named after Hughes’s grandmother) in 1988, the area has been steadily growing ever since. Summerlin is the place where many of the city’s biggest names call home, send their kids to school, do their shopping and spend their free time on the weekends. Nonetheless, it is a great spot for outdoor lovers who want to enjoy the natural beauty, and want to hike miles of trail in the Red Rock Canyon area. Preserved as a National Conservation Area, the canyon offers an education center, multiple camping spots, 16 hike trails, and plenty of wildlife. For something slightly little-hearted (and perhaps less adventurous), go shopping at the European-themed Tivoli Village. With its cobbled streets and magnificent architecture, Tivoli brings you a choice of upscale brands and charming boutique stores to shop from. There’s also Red Rock Resort or JW Marriott (with the attached Rampart Casino)—both are top-notch hotel-casinos worth visiting. Downtown Summerlin is a massive shopping and dining complex that also houses the Las Vegas Ballpark (home of the minor-league Las Vegas Aviators) and the
practice facility for the Vegas Golden Knights.
Henderson
Another neighborhood located slightly detached from the bustling center of Las Vegas, Henderson is the second-largest city in the state and is located to the southeast of the Sin City. The first Las Vegas suburb, it initially sprouted during World War II around the Basic Magnesium Plant, and it was mainly an industrial center until development shifted in the 1980s. These days, Henderson is a mix of quiet residential enclaves and more commercial areas, including the Fiesta, Green Valley Ranch and Sunset Station hotel-casinos. It also has a slowly revitalizing downtown area, home to the so-called “booze district” of local breweries and distilleries, and a restaurant scene that mixes suburban staples with adventurous gourmet outposts, such as Kitchen Table and The Stove. The most appropriate base to explore the natural wonders of Nevada, including the Hoover Dam and Lake Mead National Park, Henderson offers a distinctive desert landscape to its visitors. The area is a great place for families traveling with kids. If you love the outdoors, you will definitely appreciate a bike ride along the River Mountain
Chinatown
Unlike similar neighborhoods in other cities, Las Vegas’s Chinatown is a strictly commercial district, but it’s a strong reflection of the city’s substantial Asian community. Along just a few miles of Spring Mountain Road west of the Strip, there are more than 150 restaurants that provide a culinary trip around Asia and the entire world. Some of the highest-profile chefs in Vegas run small outposts in Chinatown, where lines for tables spill out onto the street even late at night. In addition to top Asian restaurants like Raku, China Mama and Monta Ramen, Chinatown has everything from the city’s premier tiki bar (The Golden Tiki) to one of its longest-running community theaters (the Las Vegas Little Theatre). Many places are open until the wee hours, making Chinatown perfect for late-night eats or just grabbing a cup of tea with friends. It’s still a bit off the beaten path for many tourists, but its reputation is increasingly pulling travelers off the Strip.
Boulder City
Boulder City is technically located in the west of Las Vegas and it is one of the only two cities in the state that PROHIBITS gambling. The bright, neon lights of the Strip and the
continuous clinking of the slot machines are nowhere to be found here. Instead, the neighborhood offers you a massive arch-gravity dam that dates back to the Great Depression. Formerly known as the Boulder Dam, Hoover Dam stands erect in the Black Canyon on the Colorado River and was once commemorated to President Roosevelt. When you are done exploring the area on foot, try experiencing the stark beauty of the Mojave Desert from the air by signing up for a thrilling ziplining tour – Flightlinez Bootleg Canyon is the most recommended. Make sure to go hiking on the Historic Railroad Hiking Trail to enjoy once-in-a-lifetime views of Lake Mead and the Boulder Basin Area. Other Highlights: Nevada Southern Railroad Museum, Boulder City-Hoover Dam Museum, Veterans’ Memorial Park, and Black Mountain.
North Vegas
Technically, a city in its own right, North Las Vegas is easily considered as a part of Las Vegas because of the immense transformation and growth of Southern Nevada. Often overshadowed by its gambling powerhouse neighbor, North Las Vegas is as entertaining as the Sin City, if not more. A great place to come with the family, the area is home to many museums, parks, and child-friendly adventures. Another significant attraction in the area is the Las Vegas Natural History Museum. Originally aimed at showcasing the history of Las Vegas, the exclusive museum now displays a multi-million-dollar exhibit that includes everything from the ancient times to the present-day world, from Africa to Nevada, and from the blue ocean to the expansive deserts.
