It’s a blend of families, a blend of individuals and a time to celebrate their journey. Think about it, no one else in the world shares your rst date, your weekend getaways, your favorite things to do together, your favorite restaurant. No one else has the same proposal story. Your love story is its own glorious rom com, and it deserves a unique to the two of you celebration! There’s no better way to share the tale of your courtship, your distinct personalities, and the things you cherish most than by creating experiences at your wedding that re ect what is unique about the two of you. There’s no limit to the ways you can incorporate these personal details into your wedding day or weekend.
As you ip through this issue, know I’m excited for you to explore every page, starting with our real moments! The one connecting theme I found as I read through all the submissions, is how each couple made the day their own, creating unique experiences, each celebrating their oneof-a-kind history. As you read their stories, you’ll see there’s not a “one size ts all” approach, and I hope you can imagine possibilities for your own celebration. I am always so inspired by the work of the talented local wedding professionals who so graciously shared their vision and creativity, not to mention some great advice for making your own statement!
Lastly, remember that this moment in time is just a small chapter of your love story. Your day is on the horizon and when that magical time nally arrives, I promise you this, nothing else will matter.
Let the toasting begin!

1 & 2. WHITE-KLUMP PHOTOGRAPHY
Based in St. Louis, but traveling worldwide, White-Klump Photography began in 2006 as a mother + daughter team, and quickly added their right-hand woman Michelle Schwartz to the team.
Sarah White-Klump
Sarah is the daughter in the original dynamic duo. She's also the dreamer for whom "you can't do that" is more a suggestion than a hard-and-fast rule. After earning a specialist and doctorate in education administration, Sarah realized she needed to be out where the people were. Drawing on a lifetime hobby, she found photographing weddings with her mom to be the perfect t. Almost ten years later, she still feels there's no place like a wedding - except maybe home with her boys, checking out new local eats with her mom, or training for her next 5K.
Michelle Schwartz
You know that friend who seems prepared for everything? You mutter how helpful some obscure tool would be and suddenly she's produced it out of thin air? That's Michelle Schwartz. She's kind of like MacGyver and Mary Poppins rolled into one! After graduating with a degree in architecture, Michelle realized life was better with a camera in hand. Putting her eye for beauty and keen sense of composition to work, she operated her own photography business for years before joining the White-Klump team. A huge animal
lover, if Michelle's not cradling a camera, she's probably cuddling her cats, Iggy and Miss Callie, or volunteering for a local animal shelter.

Your wedding cake isn’t just dessert, think of it as another element in your décor! After all the time you spent tasting and designing, don’t be afraid to get creative with the display. Think beyond the standard round table. Why not go for interesting shapes or something completely different like a vintage console or geometric structures to display? We love how this cake was set on a pillar among the ceremony orals to create a gorgeous photo op.
We’re happy to see the return of the bold palette! Couples are not shying away from color, but instead, we’re seeing them embrace thoughtful color references through patterned textiles, illustrations, oral concepts, custom décor moments, and even their bridal fashion. What fun to see unabashed color, wild patterns, and moments of unexpected delight.
Think bold, beautiful linens, pattern play throughout the design, and layered elements. A focus on gorgeous details that extend to even the smallest tabletop details. We love to see planners design place settings with interesting texture. If you’re guest list is large, think about a statement head table or even a sweetheart table. We love the idea of incorporating heirloom china and crystal into the tablescape for the couple. It’s a unique way to honor parents or grandparents.
Forget a big blank book on the gift table, the guestbooks are now becoming a much more memorable experience for both guests to have fun with, and couples to look back on. Rather than just a keepsake, creative guestbook ideas like leaving a voice message on a vintage telephone or signing a favorite album will become the norm.
Spend some time talking about your perfect food day. Anything goes! Think breakfast through dinner, plus snacks and dessert.
Work with your caterer and venue to combine you and your partner’s choices into the ideal wedding meal for a diverse menu or incorporate elements into the weekend’s events.
Sisters marry at their parents’ home a year apart.
Tierney and Paige both chose to host their wedding at the family home. The sisters had very different wedding day priorities and styles. Tierney, the first to be married, had such a zeal for color complete with a stunning ombre ceremony arch, while Paige was passionate about a billowing garden-style event in timeless white and green. The vendor and design team,
led by a companie, Belli Fiori and Decorum Events St. Louis, constructed two very different luxury venues at the family residence. One in the heat of summer, the other in the cold of winter and both with very different challenges and both equally beautiful. We love showcasing the diverse design-styles and seeing how talented each vendor was at their individual craft.

One of our favorite moments was being able to feel the love and happiness through all the laughter and smiles during our ceremony on the terrace. We had such an incredible band, and I enjoyed seeing our loved ones from both the groom and the bride's side out on the dance floor the entire night celebrating! The whole evening felt very magical and elegantly beautiful from the beginning of the ceremony to the end of the reception. We had an amazing vendor team, which was led by our very talented wedding planner. When the weekend festivities began, we were able to relax and enjoy every single moment.”

From getting ready to ending the night on the dance floor, our wedding day exceeded every expectation! Walking down the aisle with my parents in the front yard of my childhood home and seeing all of our family and friends, watching Trevor sing ‘One By One’ by Woody Guthrie with the Red Jackets band at our reception, sitting together in my parents' kitchen eating snacks and sharing a moment alone for the first time as a married couple. KARA HOGANSON PHOTOGRAPHYWe wanted our wedding to reflect our relationship and our favorite things. We spent the first four years of our relationship long distance and our decision to come together was like a dream come true for both of us. Much of the music and the ceremony itself contained references to favorite shows and movies we shared during our time apart. The groom and Best Man's attire was modeled after a suit worn by Dr.Who. We had extra desserts of pavlova to celebrate the groom's Australian heritage and had Ted Drewes for the bride! We live streamed the entire event so we could share it with friends and family abroad. Our planner and our vendors really made our vision come to life and go further than we could have imagined.”

At every place setting we wrote ‘thank you’ notes thanking everyone for celebrating with us. On the other side was an additional note from the parents of the bride. The notes also included a special nod to each table serving as an ‘ice breaker’. All were specially curated for the guests at that specific table. THE MARIONS
We incorporated a lot of sentimental and generational elements into the wedding. My bouquet was wrapped in lace from my mother’s dress and my grandmother’s rosary. The parents proceeded down the aisle to ‘Sunrise Sunset,’ which was played at my parents’ wedding. My engagement ring and the dress I wore to the reception belonged to my grandmother. My wedding band belonged to my great grandmother, and we used my grandmother’s Bible that she used at her own wedding! It was important to me that all those generations of powerful women be there with me at the altar. That those generations of love and marriages be physically represented on my special day! I also added charms on my bouquet for all my family members, important people, and animals who had passed and weren’t able to be with me on my wedding day.”

Kevin and I spent many of our first dates in Forest Park taking long walks, or picnicking when the weather was nice. Kevin also proposed near The Muny. After we decided to have our reception at the World's Fair Pavilion, we knew we wanted to incorporate subtle elements of Forest Park throughout our day! Our talented graphic designer helped craft a seating chart that showcased our favorite landmarks in Forest Park. Each guest table was named after a landmark in the park too. To bring the theme home, our band played ‘Saturday in the Park’ as the first song of the night. We LOVE you Forest Park!”

We call this a ‘HinJew’ wedding because we were combining the traditions of an Indian/Hindu wedding with those of a reform Jewish wedding. We shortened it down to one day but all of the bridesmaids and the bride had henna but wore traditional American outfits, while the groomsmen wore Indian outfits to show the exchange of two cultures. We did the baraat parade to the venue with the groom on a horse and had both a Hindu priest and a Jewish rabbi officiate the ceremony. Guests were offered their choice of Indian food or traditional American, the bride did an outfit change into an Indian sari, and then of course we did the hora at the reception!”

We were married under a very special needlepointed chuppah. It was originally designed and handmade 32 years ago by my late Grandma, my Aunt, and two of my first cousins. Jordan and I were the fifth couple in the family to be married underneath this beautiful heirloom and we felt very blessed to be able to continue the tradition.”
Jordan plays bass guitar and was invited to sit in with The Dirty Muggs for two songs.
Jordan's perspective, “Stepping up on stage to play alongside one of the best and most entertaining bands for a couple hundred screaming friends and family – it was like playing to a packed club! But as I gazed out over the crowd, I only saw my wife with her gorgeous smile cheering the loudest out of everyone.”
Diana's perspective, “I turned into the biggest fangirl seeing Jordan on stage with the band! I will never forget jumping around, screaming at the top of my lungs, and feeling like the luckiest girl with a rockstar husband!”

There is so much that goes into wedding planning. It helps to start as early as possible to get everything perfect. It will help you feel calm once the big day is here. Be sure to pick a team of people that you trust, they are key to making your perfect dream wedding come to life. The team of vendors made me feel so comfortable, calm, and able to really enjoy the day without worry. The team really went above and beyond to make this day enjoyable and that enabled us to fully enjoy every moment. The MAC staff and coordinator Courtney Hake was amazing. Not to mention the food was delicious!”

Doing the design work for our chuppah. We felt like Wilbur and Orville Wright doing test flights at Kitty Hawk. We wrote up designs and built it out of PVC in our basement first. We caught design problems that prevented our chuppah from rolling in on itself. We designed it to be modular so the front section could come off and be used after the ceremony inside the venue. Once we had the PVC model down, we got to work on the copper version. We picked up sections of copper pipe and learned a lot about plumbing to make it work. For the chuppah covering, we picked up a large sheet of muslin. Our grandparents hemmed the edges and added tie-downs so we could tie it to the roof of the chuppah. The result was incredible. It was such a meaningful metaphor of teamwork and building a new house together.”

My rehearsal dinner dress was my mother’s wedding dress that was constructed by a seamstress for me to wear. It was so special to be wearing her dress. My bridesmaids surprised me with a live wedding painter at our reception. She painted our first dance, and it is such a special thing to have hanging in our house.”

MICHELLE JAHNS PHOTOGRAPHYWe got married on our sixth anniversary. Since we met at Gamlin Whiskey House we wanted to tie that into the wedding. We had whiskey and bourbon bottles for centerpieces, a barrel head as a guest book, and mixed brandy in a custom mini barrel as our unity ceremony. Having our dog Watson part of our wedding was important. Not only did he get to walk down the aisle, but his face was everywhere. Nathan had cuff links with his face on them, all the men in the wedding had socks with his face on them, our bar sign was a painting of him that said Watson’s bar, and we had stickers of him as favors.”

One of our most memorable moments was our first look. We got private time to ourselves to soak everything in, exchanged gifts and took time to read our private vows to each other. We read standard vows at the ceremony, so it was special to express our love and dedication to each other more intimately in private. It was a beautiful moment that completely calmed our nerves before the rest of the day. We also got an amazing moment alone together after the ceremony in the barn at the venue. The guests had already gone to cocktail hour and we got to just be together as newlyweds. We even practiced our first dance there before our grand entrance!”

OCTOBER 29, 2022
I’d advise couples to embrace what is unique about their love and relationship and channel that in their wedding. Our wedding was so custom (there was a lot of help and crafting involved) and unique to us - all the things we love, references to our favorite hobbies, memories, and places. It made it so much more fun and special to be true to ourselves. Wedding planning can bring about a lot of pressure for things to be ‘perfect’ or be a certain way, but I believe our wedding was so much more special and fun when we embraced our authentic selves.”

I looked for non-traditional ways to involve loved ones in our day. I invited my three cousins to pass out champagne to our guests as they entered our ceremony and called them ‘champagne girls.’ They wore matching satin dresses and ended up being a huge hit with guests! Statement making stationery that elevates your celebration to an unforgettable level.
By Beth von Behrencreating a wedding experience as unique and special as the couple getting married is the hallmark of a good wedding planner and the secret to their craft.
Allissa Reimer, of Altar’d Events, says the rst rule of wedding planning is that there are no rules, and that goes for everything from programs to place cards to how you showcase a signature cocktail. From the very rst discussion with the wedding couple, Allissa emphasizes that it’s a process.
“It’s a billion questions,” she said.
Reimer starts by getting to know the couple as people, how they live their lives, what they do, what they like. This determines which elements are going to be important, and it
usually involves a lengthy questionnaire. Do they want a pre-wedding welcome party or a post-wedding brunch? Who will attend the rehearsal dinner?
“Until you’ve planned a wedding, you have no idea what goes into it,” she said. “And you’re not supposed to. That’s my job. Probably a majority of my couples at rst will say that’s cool, we don’t really care, but once you start showing them design elements for invitations and signage, they say ‘that speaks to me and that speaks to me.’”
The custom design aspects of a wedding planner’s job can be creative and fun because there are so many options. The planner often works closely with a stationery partner, who will take the ideas and bring them to life.
Alicia Lantzy of On Three Designs, a stationery company, typically begins working with wedding couples about a year to 15 months before the event, although nal design and production may only take 10 to 11 weeks. She starts with questions for them and builds a design scheme that re ects their personality and style and takes into account their speci c aesthetic.
Lantzy says the stationery becomes the couple’s brand. She helps them tell their story with the options they select, such as a monogram, artwork, maybe a wax seal for envelopes. This can be extrapolated onto items used throughout the event, such as welcome signage, a physical backdrop
or panels for the band stage, embroidered napkins that become keepsakes, even aprons for the bartenders and servers.
“By the time your guests walk in, they will recognize all of it,” Reimer said.
Elements that a stationer might help the wedding couple choose include color palette and typography, such as a script or serif typeface. Lantzy is an artist who designs a lot of the artwork herself, and this evolves out of discussions with the couple, but she also takes the venue into account. A wedding held at Union Station, for example, might incorporate an art nouveau theme, while one held at City Museum might be more playful.
Lantzy said stationery customization has skyrocketed over the past ve years, and Alyssa Reimer agrees. Over the 15 years Reimer has been doing this, wedding experiences have changed from something designed to impress wedding guests, to curating a more moving and personal experience for them.
Lantzy tells the story of a couple she worked with where the groom’s family was Puerto Rican. She incorporated a custom monogram throughout all of their pieces. For the invitation, she created a vellum overlay of the invitation written in Spanish. It was a memorable way to visually depict two families from different cultures coming together to create a new family. All the details from the monogram, including artwork and typography, were then used in the program, the welcome box, welcome cards, and even a giant overlay on the dance oor.
Another couple Lantzy worked with planned to be married on the bride’s parents’ property, where they ran a miniature donkey rescue. A tiny donkey icon became the focal point of their design, and the seating chart included a playful message: “Please sit your [donkey icon] down.” Wedding Planner Hillary Williams, of Hillary J Events, suggests printing cocktail napkins with the recipe of the signature cocktail in the bride or groom’s handwriting. Williams also describes a time she worked with a couple to design vintage, curated coupes for each wedding guest. A tag with table number was attached to the coupes, so they worked as a welcome drink, an escort card, and a favor, and they were placed together in a large statement display where guests encountered them as they arrived at the venue.
If the couple is considering using candlelight, Williams suggests using customscented candles, because memory is stimulated by scent. She also has used a champagne bucket, surrounded by champagne bottles and glasses, where guests can leave gift cards, instead of a card box, as yet another opportunity for a customized display.
Branding a wedding with unique stationery elements can be done on any kind of budget, according to Wedding Planner Ashlee Erlinger, of Dream By Design. Some couples go a totally custom route. They work with a stationer, build design suites that are speci c to the couple, with custom images, such as a hand drawing of a beloved pet or maybe a painting of the venue.
Their custom-designed monogram used on
save-the-date postcards and invitations could also be printed on their cocktail napkin. The envelope liner design could become a facade used on the bar. Stationery sets the tone for what the whole day will be like. If guests receive a card with a disco theme, they know it’s going to be a party.
Erlinger sees this process as organic. Every couple is different, so what they choose depends on their priorities. Some want a custom look, but other couples want to keep it simple and
can do a lot of the work themselves.
“Everything today is a moment in the experience,” said Erlinger. “And it’s photographable. So they want it pretty and memorable, but everyone is on a budget. Even Kim Kardashian. Her budget may be larger, but it’s still a budget.”
The key for the wedding planner is to help couples get what they want while staying within their speci c budget. “Our market is a lot more creative, and they are capable of
doing that,” said Erlinger. “Over the last few years, couples want it all to go together, so we create a budget around that. After initial discussions, we build a vendor team, and my associate Sam does the math and pulls it all together for the client.” “It comes down to what’s important to you, what’s a priority, and how it works in your budget,” said Erlinger. “Everything you do for a wedding is focused around the guest experience, and the question is always ‘will everybody like that?’”
Williams suggests that couples add something intentional to the wedding experience to make it memorable. “For example, if the wedding is at the Missouri Botanical Gardens, consider having edible owers on top of the drink,” she said.
Erlinger points out that the last few years have changed events fundamentally. “After covid, people are celebrating more, investing
more in experiences,” she said. “More people are coming to weddings. They missed out.”
Reimer loves branding the whole wedding event. From the beginning, with the invitation, through selection of items for welcome parties, the rehearsal dinner, and wedding-day items, such as welcome signs and programs, she sees it as a crescendo that leads guests through the entire experience. She loves the connection she makes with her
clients and sees her goal as representing who they are individually and as a couple.
“I don’t ever want anyone to leave a wedding and say ‘well that was a wedding,’” said Reimer. “I want them to say, ‘oh my gosh, that was so Suzy and James.’ From the menu being created to honor their favorite things to the stationery that speaks to what they love, what they care about, it should all be in alignment.”
Host your wedding at a venue that is also a once-in-a-lifetime experience for the guests
by Jennifer C. FrakesWeddings bring together all your most-loved and important people to celebrate your union. And that’s enough reason to come together, of course, but why not give your guests a really memorable time in a unique spot and maybe an iconic
St. Louis setting? Places where the venue itself is part of the experience, and fun and interactive for you and your guests. Here are some special sites that scream “St. Louis!” and other off-the-beaten path, gorgeous settings just a bit farther away.
PHOTO CREDITS: MICHELLE SCHWARTZ, WHITE-KLUMP PHOTOGRAPHYForest Park is a treasure of St. Louis, and within it is the jewel the Missouri History Museum. The museum sits on what was the main entrance to the 1904 World’s Fair. This north entrance leads guests to MacDermott Grand Hall, with its beautiful open oor plan and sweeping views of the park. Look down to admire the oor’s winding River Mosaic, and look up to see “The Spirit of St. Louis,” the sister plane to Charles Lindbergh’s, which was featured in the 1957 lm of the same name starring Jimmy Stewart.
The museum boasts a one-of-a-kind collection, celebrating St. Louis’s rich, diverse and fascinating history, and connecting its past to the future. “We can open the gallery exhibits for cocktail hour or for the whole night,” said Jailan Thomas, the private events supervisor. “It’s especially a great introduction for out-of-town guests to the story of St. Louis.”
Thomas said they can also open the gift
shop for your celebration, with its unique locally-made products and gifts, and historical merchandise.
In addition to MacDermott Grand Hall, there is a multipurpose room, an auditorium, a restaurant and a foyer available for special events. Cocktails hours can also be held in the outdoor courtyard, and ceremonies at the stately front entrance of the museum.
“People love the architectural beauty of the museum, and that it has history and is about history, but also has a modern feel, all in Forest Park,” Thomas said. mohistory.org/museum/event-spaces
Third Degree Glass Factory offers a cool urban vibe, just west of the Central West End. It’s St. Louis’s only publicly accessible glass art studio and education center, as well as a gallery with stunning glass work and a unique event space with 30-foot windows.
Third Degree offers an awesome spin on a
unity ceremony. Instead of a blending sand in a vessel, couples choose three to four colors of frit (glass crystals) and they combine them, as a symbol of their union. “Then guests can watch the glassblowing and the creation of a one-of-a-kind commissioned piece of art the couple will have forever,” said Jessica Labozetta, event director. “The gallery is next to the hot shop, and for guests to be able to see the glass artist in action and the process of creating art is a fascinating experience.”
Couples can choose from several shapes of glasswork for their unity ceremony. There will be frit remaining that the couple can use for toasting utes or ornaments, and those can be done up to a year after their event.
Labozetta said even if couples get married elsewhere, they can choose their colors of frit and combine them where they are and then send it to Third Degree to then create the piece, then ship back to the couple.
Guests have full access to the art gallery during cocktail hour and to the gift shop, if
guests want something special for themselves or a wedding gift for the couple. Third Degree can ship your chosen pieces anywhere. thirddegreeglassfactory.com
Just an hour from St. Louis sits Cedar Creek, in New Haven, Missouri. Cedar Creek offers an idyllic setting for an entire wedding weekend. Sales manager Ellen Rodgers said, “Usually the wedding party and guests will arrive Friday for the rehearsal dinner, have the ceremony and reception on Saturday and stay through breakfast on Sunday.”
Cedar Creek provides accommodations for about 125 guests, ranging from hotel-style rooms to quaint cottages and a large manor home for up to 18 guests. For additional guests, there are options in Hermann, just 12 miles away and a few miles further to Washington, Missouri.
Activities abound for guests at Cedar Creek: unlimited golf and shing, a hiking
trail, and swimming in a saltwater pool in the summer months. The town of New Haven is just ve minutes away and offers a historical movie theatre, a brewery and quaint shops.
There are four ceremony sites to choose from, indoor and outdoor, and a Western town with a Town Hall that’s ideal for rehearsal dinners or cocktail hours. “Our spaces are very versatile, where we can play up the rustic elements or go very elegant,” Rodgers said.
For the crowd that wants to keep the party going, couples can opt for an after-party option in the Town Hall or Carriage Hall with a cash bar. The dedicated team at Cedar Creek can also build a bon re during the cooler months.
“It really is like a mini-destination wedding,” Rodgers said. “A wedding and a vacation with your family and friends, creating great memories.” cedarcreekcenter.com
Hosting an event at Busch Stadium gives you two St. Louis landmarks in one, the home of the baseball Cardinals and the Gateway Arch as the stadium’s backdrop. It’s adjacent to Ballpark Village, which is home to the St. Louis Cardinals Hall of Fame and Museum, and Cardinals Nation, the team-owned restaurant, rooftop and bar.
“The Hall of Fame and Museum is ideal for rehearsal dinners or goodbye brunches,” said Jenn Coticchio director of special events. “The museum's seven galleries explore the rich history of the Cardinals, with interactive exhibits that are of interest to all ages.” The second and third oors of Cardinals Nation can host up to 150 guests and overlook the stadium.
Want to be inside Busch Stadium? You can host a ceremony and reception at several different places around the ballpark, from April 1 to November 5 on non-game days. “It’s a really unique perspective, being in the
stadium when it’s empty,” Coticchio said. You can have cocktail hour or dinner on the warning track, grab a drink from the bar set up in the dugout, and admire your photos and messages on the giant scoreboard.
Though baseball isn’t being played, there are many enhancements you can add to feel like a part of the action. “Guests can pitch a ball from the mound of the bullpen,” said Coticchio. “We also have batting in the cages, where they can go in the visiting batting cages and take a few swings.”
Another option is “Holding History” where guests can hold a bat used by Yadier Molina, for example, or take a photo wearing World Series ring. Appearances by a World Series trophy are even available, as well as a visit with fan favorite Fredbird. Baseball may be part of the couple’s love story, but even guests who aren’t sports fans will love being an insider at the home of the Cardinals. cardinals.com/events
Interested in architecture, music or visual art? Or hosting guests in a historically signi cant building with great views of the Central West End? The Sheldon offers all this and more. The Sheldon’s Concert Hall was built in 1912 by famed architect Louis Spiering. Director of events Rachel Bolland said, “The concert hall was designed to be acoustically perfect. No microphones are needed on the stage. You can hear perfectly wherever you are, even seated in the last row. And there are gorgeous stained walls windows in the concert hall that look wonderful during the day or at night.”
In addition to the concert hall, there’s the Sheldon Ballroom and the newly renovated Konneker Room, which has oor-to-ceiling glass windows. “There have been weddings in the Konneker Room where during toasts, there’s a gorgeous sunset, making for a spectacular backdrop,” Bolland said. The Sheldon Ballroom features golden hardwood
ooring, a full stage and dramatic beamed ceilings with large skylights.
Guests will have full and private access to the art gallery during cocktail hour-ideal for mingling and ice-breaking conversations. “Guests will be standing in history,” Bolland said, referring to the hundreds of famous speakers and musicians who have performed at The Sheldon over the years. She cited Thurgood Marshall, Margaret Mead, Ernest Hemingway and quite possibly Albert Einstein, to name a few. Also, The St. Louis Chapter of the League of Women Voters was founded in The Sheldon’s Green Room in 1920.
“Those who have been to weddings here really appreciate the uniqueness of the space and say it feels very intimate,” Bolland said, even though The Sheldon can host seated events up to 500. “You have the feel of art throughout all the spaces, in all its forms.” www.thesheldon.org
One of our area’s newer properties is The Venue at Maison du Lac, in Catawissa, Missouri, near Paci c. “It’s just 45 minutes from downtown yet is a tucked-away oasis that feels much farther away,” said Jessie Herbergs, venue and marketing manager.
Owners Ces and Judy, with over 40 years of catering and event experience, purchased what was previously a llama farm. For truly unique photos and fun, a couple can have llamas greet guests before the ceremony, hang out during cocktail hour or even to walk the bride down the aisle. The llamas are trained and enjoy being a part of the celebration.
The Venue at Maison du Lac offers the rare combination of a gorgeous country setting plus a contemporary building with a wall of windows overlooking a deck and a four-acre lake. “It’s great for a couple where one person may be more modern and the other more outdoorsy,” said Herbergs. “You can get both vibes here, and a wide variety of photos.”
The Catawissa Stone House stands proudly on the property, built in 1843, making it the second-oldest house in the area. Historically beautiful from the outside, the bridal ready room and groom’s quarter’s are inside and available to wedding parties on the big day.
The Venue building holds up to 300 guests, and there are four options for a ceremony, including lakeside and a picturesque barn with chandeliers. “And we always have a backup space for the outdoor ceremonies, in case of bad weather,” Herbergs said. “We can do that because the property is exclusively yours during your rental time.”
Guests can enjoy the scenery by exploring the property, relaxing on the deck or playing lawn games, if they choose to bring them. For those wanting to stay overnight, the detail-oriented team at Maison du Lac provides shuttle service to nearby accommodations. thevenuestl.com
Our Saint Louis Zoo is one of the best zoos in the country and one of the most beloved spots in St. Louis. The Zoo offers several event sites, and many experiences for the wedding party and guests that are only possible at this special place.
“We have had wedding receptions treat the guests to the Stingray exhibit during cocktail hour or a private Sea Lion Show,” said Jason Moder, director of sales and catering at the Zoo. “Once we even held a ceremony on the Sea Lion show arena stage.”
Guests can take a ride on the Zooline Railroad to see more of the Zoo. “One couple rented the train to bring the wedding party to the ceremony location,” Moder said. “Talk about an entrance! The guests hearing and then seeing the train coming with the bride aboard.”
Exclusive photo opportunities are endless at the Zoo. “We have seen wedding parties take pictures at Penguin and Puf n coast,”
said Moder. “After all, the penguins were already dressed for the occasion in their black and white formal attire!” Photos in the underwater viewing tunnel at Sea Lion Sound are popular, with the wedding party being surrounded by blue water and friendly sea lions. The large Animals Always structure at the roundabout at Wells and Hampton streets is also a favorite.
“And although not for everyone, we have had more than a few wedding ceremonies inside the Herpetarium (Reptile House),” Moder said. “I know some guests aren’t too sure about this particular set of animals but the building itself is historic and absolutely beautiful. There have been some great ceremonies there.”
You also can feel good knowing you’re supporting a world-class organization that conserves animals here and around the world. Learn more at //stlzoo.org/ weddings.
Perhaps the most recognizable brand in St. Louis is Anheuser-Busch, as it has made its home here since its inception in the 1850’s. The historic buildings are beautifully maintained, and they and the expanded Biergarten hold memorable events, along with many additional experiences available.
“Your guests can have a private tour of the brewery, which is a great thing to do between the ceremony and the reception, if you’re having both here,” said Heather Hammett, senior event lead. During the cocktail hour, a visit with the famous Clydesdales is available, during which you can pet and take pictures with the legendary horses.
There is an outdoor and an indoor Biergarten, and they can be combined for a very large event. The outdoor portion has a tented roof and heating system and can be used almost year-round, except for November and December, during Brewery Lights for the holidays.
Of course, “the king of beers” does not disappoint when it comes to offering its products in the Biergarten. “There are 18 draft lines in the Biergarten, where guests can try all the beers Anheuser-Busch has to offer,” Hammet said. “And they get to try a research pilot brew that isn’t even on the market yet. Those are constantly changing, so it’s often different from one wedding to the next.” Hammett noted they have their own executive chef and all the catering is done in-house, with beer as an ingredient in some menu items.
Lots of brides who are from St. Louis but now live elsewhere love hosting their weddings at Anheuser-Busch, because it’s so “St. Louis-y” and fun to show off to out-oftowners. Hammett is a pro at working with (and Zooming with) these brides to plan their big day from afar.

We’ve all heard of farmto-table restaurants, which emphasize using locally grown products for delicious meals that help the community and our environment. The direct relationship between the food producers and the independent restaurants results in extremely fresh products that boosts the business of local providers and reduces the carbon footprint of obtaining ingredients from much farther away.
A new partnership between Urban Buds, a oral farm in St. Louis city and Wild owers, a premier local oral design shop, is doing the same for owers. Their new joint venture, The Farmer and The Florist, provides very fresh owers beautifully grown at Urban Buds and beautifully designed by Wild owers, which is also located in the city and owned by Sara Ward.
“It was a natural collaboration,” Mimo Davis said, co-owner of Urban Buds: City Grown Flowers. “Sara has been a friend and customer for several years. We love Sara’s style and designs. As our production at Urban Buds is growing, we wanted a direct connection with a orist. Why not have 100% locally grown and locally designed creations for weddings and events?”
By Jennifer C. Frakes |Ward, who is also the creative director at Wild owers, wholeheartedly agrees. “I think that owers grown locally are so much more beautiful than those own in from all over the world,” Ward said. “Local owers are bigger, fuller, richer and last longer. And there’s something about driving a few miles to see the owers growing in the ground, choosing them, and shortly after designing them for an event.”
“And it’s something people can feel good about,” said Miranda Duschak, co-owner of Urban Buds with Davis. “The owers we
grow are picked at the moment of perfection and taken right to Wild owers. Our owers are sustainably grown with earth-friendly products. And we’re creating economic viability in the city.” Both businesses are women-owned and Urban Buds is also half minority-owned.
Some owers grown at Urban Buds may not be familiar to a couple, but the wide variety there results in innovative and gorgeous designs. “If a couple comes in with a color palette in mind, we can provide lots of options for that
palette,” Davis said. Ward at Wild owers agreed, “There are so many owers at Urban Buds that people may not know about, but are at least as beautiful and can create more unique and original arrangements.”
Urban Buds is in the Dutchtown neighborhood and the farmstead dates back to 1870. It was a working farm and oral shop until the 1990’s, when it fell into disrepair. Davis and Duschak, experienced ower growers with degrees in horticulture and agriculture, respectively, purchased it in 2012. They painstakingly restored the property and revitalized its ower farming
tradition. An original greenhouse still stands on its one acre, and they can now offer owers throughout the year.
The Farmer and The Florist is a “win” all the way around. “This partnership means locally produced beautiful and distinctive owers that are creatively designed for events. It also supports minority and women-owned businesses, and helps the environment and our city,” Duschak said. As the bride-to-be, your focus is on preparing for the big day. In the months and weeks leading up to your wedding, family and friends are planning ways to celebrate you and your partner. While many of these events are traditional, the celebrations can be personalized and unique.
“Make it all about the couple. If you love craw sh, do a craw sh boil for your rehearsal dinner/welcome party. If your softball league is an important part of your life, incorporate that into your celebrations. Throw a party that encourages guests to meet and mingle. No pressure, no stress, just fun,” says Allie Menne, Owner of Something Bleau
Designs.
The engagement party is held within the rst few months after the couple is engaged. Traditionally it is hosted by the bride’s parents, but anyone can throw an engagement party. Some couples choose to host their own engagement party.
Brittany Dwyer, Founder and CEO of Disco! says the trend for engagement parties is less formal, more interactive celebrations. Dwyer’s company partners with local venues to provide customized group experiences. Dwyer and her team at Disco! have researched the best St. Louis venues and offer direct booking of unique, curated experiences.
When: August 6th, 2023 & January 6th & 7th, 2024
Where: St. Charles Convention Center
Time: 10am-3pm (Special VIP Entrance)
Fashion Show: 10:15am

We help our clients throw an amazing party without the hassle and expense of planning it alone,” says Dwyer. Dwyer suggests an engagement party at The Vandy, a new cocktail bar near The Grove area of St. Louis. Guests enjoy an open bar of craft cocktails, beer and wine and have private use of the space. The bar also offers and elevated non-alcoholic menu.
For a more interactive party, Disco! works with Parlor Arcade in The Grove for an upscale arcade experience with a full bar and food options. Guests can enjoy arcade games, pinball, skee-ball, and pool or hang out on
the outdoor patio.
For couples who are wine connoisseurs, Disco! partners with Clayton Winehouse Cellars to provide both seated or cocktail style gatherings in a lovely space surrounded by glass wine cellars and featuring a standalone bar. Couples can select the wine package that ts their budget and add charcuterie and cheese boards from Beast & Butcher.
Bridesmaid proposal parties are a newer trend that have become increasingly popular in recent years. It provides the bride with a unique way to ask friends and family to be part of the wedding party. Bridesmaid proposals parties are hosted by the bride and
typically take place soon after the engagement.
Stef de Regil, owner of The Party Co. STL, planned a customized picnic experience for a bridesmaid proposal. The celebration included a full picnic setup and themed décor and was held at a private residence. The smaller, more intimate setting was perfect for the bride to celebrate with her besties and present them with bridesmaid proposal gift boxes.
The bridal shower is held for the bride-tobe by her maid of honor and bridesmaids or a family friend. These celebrations are typically held one to three months ahead of the wedding. Themed bridal showers offer a fun way to honor the bride with a memorable and
unique celebration that still embraces many of traditions of the event. Popular inspirations are tea parties and estas.
Tammy Kirkiewicz, Owner and Lead Designer of Nadine and Mina, a company specializing in vintage rentals and event décor design, helps clients bring their bridal shower vision to life.
“You can come to me with a color, idea, ower, anything that inspires a theme for your party. We can design around that and make it unique for them. I love working with other vendors to make each event unique,” says Kirkiewicz, who recently helped plan a estathemed bridal shower.
For the esta shower, Kirkiewicz coordinated the vintage rentals and did the
table and oral design. Her festive, brightly colored tablescape and décor set the mood and provided endless photo opportunities for photographer Natasha McGuire.
“There were so many cool things to photograph it was hard to put my camera down. Even the serving bowls and desserts were amazing. All the work that everyone put into the party made it special,” says McGuire.
The shower was catered by Arzola’s and the esta-inspired cookies and cupcakes were created by Spoil Me Sweetly. Courtney Winet Design did all the stationery and paper goods. Eye Candy Rentals set up a photo backdrop and Country Event Rentals supplied the farmhouse table, benches, and chairs. Guests went home with a piñata containing a mini
bottle of tequila. The team worked together to create an unforgettable event.
Last year de Regil planned a Bridgertonthemed bridal shower for 25 people. It featured dusty blue and cream-colored linens, monogrammed macarons, grazing tables of brunch items and personalized cocktail napkins. Hand-painted, personalized champagne bottles from Styled Bubbly added a special touch.
For those who prefer to have their team party at an actual tea room, Disco! offers a bridal shower in the beautiful, private Kensington Room at the London Tea Merchant in the Central West End. Choose either an afternoon tea party or a savory high tea experience.

The focus of the bachelor and bachelorette parties is having fun with your closest friends. Bachelor parties are planned by the best man and groomsmen and bachelorette parties are planned by the maid of honor and bridesmaids. These festivities typically take place about two months prior to the wedding. While many people think of destinations like Las Vegas or Nashville, you don’t have to leave town to have a blast with your squad. Knowing your friends and the types of activities you enjoy doing together can help inspire unique party ideas.
How about a Bachelorette Darty? Day parties, or dartys, are a popular and fun twist on the
traditional bachelorette party. A tropical-themed bachelorette party held at a private residence with a pool provides the perfect setting to celebrate your upcoming wedding. The Party Co. STL offers a Palm Springs-themed pool party complete with a bar cart featuring tropical cocktails, grazing tables of snacks and beachy décor including pool oaties.
Disco! offers a bachelor party at X Golf Indoor Golf Simulator in West St. Louis County that is perfect for the groom who likes to golf. This indoor golf entertainment venue has a restaurant and full-service bar. Dwyer recommends a golf simulator group party with bourbon tasting for bachelor parties. Guests can enjoy some friendly competition, hang out in a private room with high top tables and lounge
seating, and taste from a selection of more than 50 bourbons, whiskeys, and scotches.
The bridal luncheon a celebration for the bride and her attendants and gives the bride an opportunity to thank her bridesmaids for their help and support throughout the process of planning the wedding.
“I encourage the bride to have a smaller, intimate gathering that allows her to spend time with the wedding party and spoil them for all they’ve done to make her wedding special. Being in a wedding party can be a huge time commitment and monetary investment. This is her chance to thank them,” says Menne.
Menne’s company, Something Bleau Designs,
specializes in table top design and event design. She helps bring your party vision to life. She recently worked with a bride to create a spathemed bridal luncheon complete with an aesthetician, botox bar, and monogrammed robes and headbands for the bridal party.
Another client, a bride having a destination wedding, wanted to host a pool day at her parents’ home for her bridal party. She gave her bridesmaids monogrammed towels and sun hats in a cute beach bag that they could take on their trip for the wedding.
The rehearsal dinner is a celebration that follows the wedding ceremony rehearsal and
typically takes place the day prior to the wedding. Traditionally, the rehearsal dinner is planned and hosted by the groom’s parents. The guest list includes, but is not limited to, members of the wedding party, members of both families, and out-of-town guests.
For Kelly Park, owner of Kelly Park Photography, the rehearsal dinner provided a way to incorporate her family’s Mexican heritage into daughter’s wedding.
“It was my daughter’s idea to have a taco truck at the rehearsal dinner and it grew from there. She and her fiancé wanted a party that was less formal and more inclusive. I am Mexican so I really love family and tradition. If we’re having a party, everyone is invited,” says Park.
Locos Tacos served authentic street tacos for dinner and Mexican pastries for dessert. Guests toasted the couple-to-be with tequila and margaritas. The youngest guests got to crack open a piñata in the shape of a hotair balloon, a nod to where the couple was engaged. Park also hired a mariachi band to perform, continuing a family tradition.
“We had that at our wedding and this was a way to keep that tradition alive and celebrate our family heritage,” says Park.
Regardless of the type of celebrations you have, remember to enjoy every minute. These smaller, more intimate gatherings allow you to mingle with guests, take pictures, and make memories before the main event.

Though procuring a wedding license isn’t quite as complicated as the wedding itself, it helps to know the rules. Here they are:
1. All applicants in Missouri and Illinois must receive a license before the ceremony; Saint Louis Bride recommends a minimum of 24 hours. Blood tests are not required in either state.
2. A Missouri license is valid for thirty days from its e ective date; an Illinois license for sixty days.
3. Both bride and groom must apply in person. In Missouri, you may apply for a license at any o ce provided the wedding is to take place within the state. In Illinois, you must apply for and receive a license from the county in which the ceremony will take place.
