EDITOR’S ITINERARY
The holiday season in St. Louis means “The Nutcracker,” “Annie,” candlelight tours, Santa Express North Pole Railway, Christmas concerts, spectacular light displays, Santa parades in Missouri's largest historic district, ice skating, carriage rides, holiday shopping and much more. But if you want to escape the wintry festivities to warmer days in a reindeerfree zone, you might pay a visit to the outstanding Cardinals Hall of Fame and Museum in Ballpark Village for a taste of summer’s favorite sport, St. Louis-style. 80 MINUTES IN: In 1892, a barnstorming baseball team in St. Louis owned by Gerrman immigrant Chris Von der Ahe known as the Browns joined the National League. The team's name was later changed to the Perfectos and finally, in 1900, to the Cardinals. Since then, the St. Louis Cardinals have won eleven World Series championships (the first came in 1926 against Babe Ruth and the Yankees), nineteen National League pennants and thirteen division titles. That storied history, richly illustrated with a some 22,000 items and 80,000 vintage photographs (considered the largest single-team-focused collection in pro sports), is on display at the Cardinals Hall of Fame and Museum in Ballpark Village, just across Clark St. from Busch Stadium. The museum makes every effort to engage the visitor in a singularly interactive
Cardinals Hall of Fame and Museum
way. Besides the museum’s Championship Gallery—containing all the team’s World Series trophies and rings, and the one-of-a-kind, beautifully detailed stadium models that showcase each of the Cardinals’ homes from Sportsman's Park (at Grand Blvd. and Dodier St.) to the current downtown Busch Stadium— the museum invites you to call some of the team’s most memorable on-field moments

in "The Broadcast Booth." You can also wield an authentic bat used by a Cardinals great in the "Holding History" area. Interactive kiosks with photos, video and statistics help visitors learn more about past Cardinals greats, including Rogers Hornsby, Bob Gibson, Dizzy Dean, Enos Slaughter, Red Schoendienst, Frankie Frisch, Lou Brock, Ozzie Smith, Bruce Sutter, Mark McGwire, Albert Pujols, Chris Carpenter and the greatest Cardinal of them all, Stan Musial.

St. Louis Your Way
Antiquers
Beer Lovers
Families
The thrill of the hunt, the ecstasy of the find—antiquers know these emotions well, and there's plenty of opportunity for emoting in St. Louis, Missouri. Take our tour of the city through its antique stores and galleries and get those acquisitive juices flowing. At (1) The Green Shag Market , a wide variety of used furniture, novelties, decoratives and accessories comes from than 60 dealers. (2) Rocket Century offers a carefully edited collection of furniture, art, accessories, kitchenware, tableware and more from the century beginning with the 1920s. (3) Warson Woods Antique Gallery, an impressive assortment of more than 200 quality dealers, features some of the best antiquing in the St. Louis area. Carve out some time, because it will take a while to see everything.
O' beer, ye golden elixir of barley, hops and yeast—that in these heady days of craft is made to mimic pumpkin, chocolate, raspberries and smoke—how do we love thee? Sliding down our throats, that's how. Celebrate the wonders of fermentation at these fine establishments. (1) Brewhouse Historical Sports Bar does upscale bar food (nachos, BBQ, fish ’n’ chips) and televised sporting events with a large selection of local and international brews. (2) Flying Saucer Draught Emporium offers sports-bar staples along with a huge array of beer in its repurposed downtown warehouse location. (3) Ferguson Brewing Company pours a popular pecan brown ale (along with a cast of at least 10 other house brews), plus comfort food, salads, wraps and flatbreads.
Yes, St. Louis is the world's greatest family travel destination, because it offers so many outstanding kid-friendly attractions that are absolutely FREE (even though you may occasionally have to pay for parking and special exhibits). And the ones that charge admission—like Butterfly House and the Magic House—are absolutely FANTASTIC! Investigate, explore, and engage with science through fun and interactive learning experiences at the (1) Saint Louis Science Center ’s 700+ permanent galleries, live science demonstrations and special exhibitions. The (2) Butterfly House features an indoor tropical butterfly conservatory, butterfly garden and gift shop. The (3) Magic House—St. Louis’ Children’s Museum is regularly cited as one of the top children’s museums in the U.S.
