I Love Mosaic When Skye did Feng Shui on my home, she explained the importance of having meaningful things that I really love surround me. She said that art is considered to be magical in Feng Shui. Art has the ability to bring an energy or vibration into our homes and every time you look at it, the vibration of that art starts to blend and shift the vibration of your own energy field. In this way, art has the ability to magically transform us just by looking at it everyday. Over two years ago, I was driving down 124 Street from Ascendant Books when I had to stop at a red light. I looked over and there in a gallery’s window was the most mesmerizing painting I’d ever seen. I was just lost in it…well until the driver behind me started honking. ☺

“Your magazine is a work of art,” Angele told me when I ran into her a few months ago at an event.

A few months later I was looking for a feature artist for the next issue of Mosaic and remembered that amazing painting I’d seen in Bear Claw Gallery’s window. Although it was no longer there, I did find other paintings by a remarkably gifted artist, Aaron Paquette. That night I looked up Aaron’s website (aaronpaquette.blogspot.com/) and you’ll never believe what I saw there - that painting that had mesmerized me! It was called: My Spirit Guide Brings a Message.

I wasn’t having the best day and her words immediately touched me as she is the publisher of a mind/body/spirit magazine, Issues, in Kelowna, B.C. She’s someone who knows all about the work that goes into every aspect of publishing a magazine like this one and so her compliment was especially meaningful to me.

While I’d loved the painting months earlier, now it took on much more meaning for me as my Mom had just died. Now this painting seemed to magically tell me that, although my Mom was now part of the world of Spirit, she was never that far away. She would always be part of my life, just in a different way.

According to Webster’s Dictionary, art is: “The use of skill and imagination in the production of things of beauty.”

I emailed Aaron about the painting to find out that someone had bought it, but oddly recently returned it because it didn’t ‘fit their space’. I was so thankful because this painting was meant to be mine!

by Connie Brisson

By that definition, I do think Mosaic is a work of art as I strive to make each issue of Mosaic more beautiful than the last. And one of the ways I do that is by featuring page after page of amazing local artwork in it. When I first took over Mosaic six years ago, we only had clip art in the magazine. I quickly had the inspiration to feature local art to show off and help promote the gifted artists in our community, while also bringing a unique beauty to each page of Mosaic. Since then we’ve featured the artwork of so many local artists and hopefully helped a few of their careers along. Everyone always tells me how much they love the art in Mosaic. One reader recently wrote me, saying that Carol Breen’s art (that she’d first seen in Mosaic) helped her through her husband’s cancer and death. I feel emotional just writing that so I can’t imagine how Carol must feel when she hears how her art touches people. Good art does that - it invokes our emotions and senses. I have to confess that there was a time before Feng Shui and Skye MacLachlan, when I didn’t get what all the fuss about art was. I just bought things to match existing things that matched older things.

Mosaic Magazine — Autumn 2010

As I write this article, this magical painting is right in front of me, across from my desk. When I look at it I feel comforted and deeply connected to my Mom, my Dad and Gene. It’s a very emotional painting for me, a link across time and space to all the people I love who are now in Spirit. Our next Mosaic’s Delicious Book Club Dinner is at the Naidoo family’s new Indian restaurant, NARAYANNI’S, 10131 - 81 Avenue, on Wednesday, August 18 at 6:00 p.m. We’ll talk about: The Cow in the Parking Lot (A Zen Approach to Overcoming Anger) by Leonard Scheff and Susan Edmiston (Workman Publishing Company, 2010). Email me at mosaicmagazine@shaw.ca by August 17 if you can come. My sincere gratitude to every artist whose work I’ve featured in the magazine. Your art has made it possible for Mosaic to be a ‘work of art’. Thanks for sharing your magic with all of us.

Core and Cellular Transformational Healing by Sherry Olson “Your body and your cells are heading for leukemia.” These were the words told to me by a homeopath over three years ago. I sat there in his office, numb and in shock. I wasn’t sure whether to cry or scream. I just couldn’t believe what he was saying. I simply didn’t think I had been that sick. He told me that if I continued on the path that I was taking and kept my lifestyle and eating patterns the same, that my cells were headed in this direction. Emotionally overwhelmed, I somehow managed to leave his office and drive home. My mind was whirling with the information and what I could possibly do to change it.

had gone through a deep purification process and I felt energized and alive for the first time in a long while. I also felt my consciousness expand during that first workshop. Old belief systems, mind sets, mental structures and programming that no longer served me began to be lifted and released. I started to see my life differently, from diverse perspectives and felt more possibilities for my life opening up to me. I was more aware of a new direction I could start to take to empower myself and really be in charge of my own life. I just knew that I needed to continue doing this work and exploring the

My first workshop experience in CCTH was very profound. I had many experiences of feeling energy moving throughout my body. I actually felt shifts inside of my body as toxins were leaving. I also had many bodily discomforts during that weekend - my back hurt, my kidneys and my stomach. I also had a massive headache and couldn’t sleep most of the weekend. The healing energy coming through during that workshop was releasing many layers of stagnate energy and toxicity within my cells and tissues at such a deep level that I was feeling it everywhere in my body. But by the end of the weekend my body felt amazing. It was like it

By the time I got home from my appointment, I was determined that my life wasn’t going to end up the way that he was predicting. I spent the next two days on the computer searching the internet for different healing modalities and techniques that could change the actual cellular structure of my cells. I eventually found a website that described cellular healing and trauma release. The information on this website resonated so deeply within me that I cried the entire time I read the information. I just knew that I needed to go to this workshop about Core and Cellular Transformational Healing (CCTH).

depths of it. I just didn’t know, at the time, the depths of how far I would go in this work over the coming years. Over the course of the past three years I have traveled to many countries such as the United States, Australia, Ireland, Scotland, Slovenia, Italy and most recently Brazil, to learn more about this healing modality and to expand my own consciousness. I’ve continued to have many meaningful and life-altering experiences in my healing journey with CCTH. My experiences were so profound that I ended up writing a book about it, Core and iLoveMosaicMagazine.com

Cellular Transformational Healing: One Woman’s Journey to The Divine (self-published, 2009 and available at Greenwoods’ Book Shoppe, 7925 - 104 Street, Edmonton). In doing CCTH my channel was opened up to allow transmissions of high sacred healing energy to come through for others. There have been many people who have asked how the healing takes place. The best way I can explain it is that there is an infinite intelligence in the energy that comes through that knows exactly where to go at a core and cellular level for one’s own unique healing experience. As a facilitator of this work, I am simply the interpreter of that energy. I allow it to come through me for my clients, letting the healing energy do its work. Core and Cellular Transformational Healing is a very deep purification process, unraveling and releasing the limitations created by the mind, thereby expanding one’s consciousness. In doing this it slowly allows the true soul expression to come to the surface of one’s consciousness. It also can heal the cells and tissues of the physical body, lifting and releasing stagnate energy, disease, trauma and toxicity and replacing those spaces with energy of a higher vibration. Every person will experience this work in unique ways based on where they are at in their own personal journey. My own personal journey began as a woman terrified that my body and cells were heading towards leukemia. Today, three years later, my body is in perfect health and I feel amazing and alive. I’m living a life beyond the confines of my mind and stretching way out of the boundaries that I had originally set for myself. My life is not the same on any level. I feel truly blessed and grateful that I began this journey and had the courage to go to that first Core and Cellular Transformational Healing workshop. It forever changed my life in beautiful and amazing ways.

with the CCTH and other healing techniques, created an unforgettable and unique experience for the participants. Based on all of my experiences over the past several years with travel, CCTH, shamanic training and my own background as a teacher, spiritual coach and facilitator of personal development classes, I am able to offer participants a wide variety of healing modalities during retreats. I come from a place of authenticity and create sacred, supportive and respectful spaces for participants to be able to feel safe in their own expansion and growth. Although trained in a diverse number of healing techniques, the most profound and significant one in my life has been Core and Cellular Transformational Healing. It has become the foundation in most of the work that I do. I know that I wouldn’t have been able to reach this point in my life without the healing and expansive experiences that CCTH has provided and opened up in my life. It truly is a transformational healing experience. It can work on all levels of the mind, body and spirit and has the possibility and potential of allowing you to truly become who you were born to be. Isn’t it time for you to truly know who you were born to be? Sherry has taught and facilitated adult personal development courses for over 13 years. She’s trained in CCTH, Past Life Regression Therapy, NLP, Spiritual & Life Coaching and Shamanic practices such as soul retrievals and power animal journeys. Currently, I still do a lot of world travel and I offer international retreats based in this work called: Gifts of the Spirit. During these retreats I use a wide variety of healing modalities such as Core and Cellular Transformational Healing, meditation, shamanic journeys and practices, as well as using the landscape of the area to deepen our connection with nature. I choose locations around the world that are steeped in ancient mysticism or offer a unique healing energy specific to that area. The ancient energy of the land, in combination with the healing techniques, offers participants a unique journey in their own healing and expansion. In Sedona, Arizona for example, we went to Angel Valley Retreat Center famous for its “unusually high number of energy lines” that cross the land, where vortexes of electromagnetic energies move in and out of the Earth and impact one’s health and consciousness. There we did, among other things, meditation and visualization exercises at an angel wheel and 12 circuit labyrinth. Incorporating these powerful energetic vortexes along iLoveMosaicMagazine.com

Your Gut Feeling

It’s never too late to heal from an accident by Peter Melnychuk Visceral Manipulation Practitioner, LMT I was recently surprised to be invited to the second wedding of a client who I had once treated for injuries from a car accident, but had not seen for several years. Mariette* first arrived in my office in 2003 in a very bad way. She and her first husband had run a mixed farming operation north of Edmonton. As the two of them drove home one August 1997 evening, their vehicle was T-boned by a driver who had failed to yield. Her husband died hours later and her happy first marriage was over. Mariette herself suffered severe injuries.

organs (viscera). In a whiplash injury the whip-shock typically gets routed (by the positioning of the heart) down the left side of the body. The resulting impact may lodge in the left side of the liver, colon, and duodenum, as well as the entire stomach and spleen. As you might suspect, digestion and elimination can be affected by such an injury. But such a contraction at the body’s core can also be the source of the post-accident pain found in the nerves, ligaments, muscles, and vertebrae associated with those internal organs.

She received a significant amount of conventional physical therapy and massage. This had provided only fleeting relief and left her with significant injuries and pain. Most recently troubling to her was her failing eyesight. Despite surgery to repair eye muscles torn in the accident, she had been unable to resume her passion for needlework. By 2003 her eyesight had deteriorated enough so that she was close to losing her driver’s license. As it was, she and her lead labourer, Danny* had to struggle to maintain the farm operations.

Love Birds © Aynsley Nisbet — aynz.livejournal.com

Six years after the accident Mariette could still not fully straighten up when standing. Her balance was poor - she had fallen six times since the accident. Both sleep and memory had been impaired, and she suffered frequent headaches. Her neck, lower back, and shoulder blades were stiff and very sore. Perhaps most debilitating was a chronic stabbing pain on her left side, which began at her fingers, moved down her torso and leg all the way down to her toes. We think of physical trauma as an injury to the hard frame of the body - a bone break, a ligament tear, a muscle bruise. But trauma often has a dramatic impact on the soft tissue of the body, including the connective tissue (fascia) and internal

When Mariette arrived at my office, her body was on lock down, as if to brace itself for the next terrifying impact. We did 11 sessions over nine months. For the first three sessions we had to avoid even the lightest touch in certain areas because they were unbearably painful. These were the places where emotional trauma was buried. For six years, she had not felt ready to access the immense grief of witnessing her greatest love die a violent death. It had been safer to experience chronic physical pain. Her breakthrough came in session four. Mariette had begun to trust herself and the Chi Nei Tsang therapy enough to ‘meet me’ by breathing gently in her most painful areas. The result was a few minutes of heightened pain, followed by relief, then a deluge of tears. With encouragement, she continued to breathe into these charged areas and initiated a transformation. At session’s end Mariette sat up, a little dizzy, but relieved. Several years of stress had evaporated from her face. Her homework was daily breath-work into the most painful areas. The next day she phoned me and was elated; she had been able to do needlework for the first time since the accident. She was standing much straighter and the left sided pain had lessened. From then on our work was productive but less dramatic. She took steps toward a healthier diet, and the visceral and neural therapies helped her physical symptoms diminish further. Once Mariette had allowed herself to contact and resolve her emotional pain, her physical pain had little to adhere to. A couple of sessions later Mariette decided more than anything she wanted to reclaim her health. She announced to both me and her lawyer that she had let go of any attachment to the outcome in her lawsuit against the driver who had caused the accident. This decision further sped up her healing. On an unconscious level the body of an accident victim often inhibits healing, in order that the court case may be won. Inspired by Mariette’s transformation and his own aptitude for healing work, Danny decided to enroll in my Unwind the Belly with CNT workshops. He had beautiful hands and was as a diligent student, and by late 2004 Mariette felt confident enough to entrust her visceral therapy to Danny.

Chi Nei Tsang is a venerable therapy invented thousands of years ago by Taoist monks. It uses energy work, relaxation breathing, and skilled touch to help awaken the body’s natural healing intelligence. Mariette’s past therapy had addressed only her physical injuries. CNT directed Mariette’s awareness and life force not just to the injured organs and her seatbelt scars, but to the emotional wounds that lay beneath the physical pain. It was difficult work to be sure, but as Mariette digested her emotional trauma, it was as though the physical injuries had no place left to lodge. Visceral Manipulation is a modern healing arts therapy that focuses on restoring normal movement (and consequently, function) to the internal organs. The force of the original accident and the unconscious fear of another had paralyzed the internal organs on the left side of Mariette’s body. VM was key in calming and restoring these internal organs to their full healthy range of movement. Neural Manipulation is the therapeutic cousin of VM, and is concerned with the healthy movement in the cranium, spine, and nerves. NM was instrumental in freeing up Mariette’s neck, cranial bones, and the brain tissues. More than 12 years after that accident, five years after I had last treated Mariette, I got a phone call from a voice I couldn’t quite place. It was Danny, who had so often driven Mariette to her appointments with me. He and Mariette were to take each other’s hand in marriage on May 15, 2010. It was short notice, Danny admitted, but he wondered if I could attend? I was delighted; a new chapter for both of them. The wedding was beautiful. Mariette and Danny looked fantastic and happy, both of them appearing much younger and healthier than they did six years before. * Names have been changed. Peter is a Certified Chi Nei Tsang Instructor and a Teaching Assistant for Barral Institute Workshops, both since 2004. See www.unwindthebelly.ca or www.iahp.com - practitioners. Trauma can change the course of our life in an instant. It does not have to be from a car accident. It can occur at the very beginning of life, in a difficult forceps or suction birth. Trauma also might come in the form of a big fall when we are very young - a fall off playground equipment onto our tailbone, a big impact while playing sports, a blow from a sibling or partner. With our winter sports and our slippery streets, Canadians have many opportunities for impact injuries. With Mariette we used both core therapies - Chi Nei Tsang (CNT) and Visceral Manipulation (VM) - as well as Neural Manipulation (NM). iLoveMosaicMagazine.com

Coming back to our senses with iRest® While deeply rooted in an academic life—I am a biologist and anthropologist by training— a dream I had one night in 1996 awoke a need deep within me to reintegrate my mind and body. I’ve explored yoga and Reiki ever since and, in 2002, discovered iRest/Yoga Nidra. iRest is a holistic approach to our health and well-being developed by my teacher Dr. Richard Miller, founder and director of the Integrative Restoration Institute (IRI). Dr. Miller combined the ancient eastern teachings of Yoga Nidra with his extensive experience as a clinical psychologist. iRest encourages us to dive deeply into life, not to retreat from it in order to get away from unpleasant or challenging situations. Rather than give in to our tendency to block out, ignore and avoid, we are asked to welcome in all bodily sensations, feelings and emotions and let them unfold completely in a safe environment so we may connect with the messages our body may be trying to send us. The fundamental teaching of iRest is that there is a place in us that is observing the comings and goings of thoughts, images, emotions, etc. All these can be described as ‘objects’ in our awareness, as movements in the mind—they are constantly changing. The fact that we can observe these things that move and change, points to something in us that is still. iRest teaches us to reconnect with that point of stillness, which is our essential self, our true nature. Once we reconnect with that part of us that is always quiet, unchanging and undamaged, we have a ground of equanimity from which we can respond to our everyday life situations, instead of reacting from the patterns of our conditioned self.

may find a resolution to issues that are arising. The client is assisted in going inside, connecting with sensations in the body and exploring where in the body feelings, emotions, beliefs are located. Many of our bad/traumatic experiences are stored somewhere in our body and can over time translate into tension and holding patterns, or even manifest as disease. Working within the body, we also explore opposites— every sensation is always paired with its opposite, but we tend to get overwhelmed by the negative aspect of this pair, getting more and more stuck in it and unable to connect with the positive counterpart (for example: angerjoy). For one of my clients, who suffers from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, working with opposites of sensations and feelings in the body enabled her to revisit some of the traumatic memories and finally work out previously unresolved issues. For the first time since diagnosis, she is now able to feel a deep sense of relaxation, peace and joy. Divine Feminine © Jayna Simpson

iRest has been helpful in resolving a variety of symptoms including sleeplessness, anxiety, fear, depression, chronic pain and post-traumatic stress. iRest is integrative and restorative and follows an educational model, teaching the client how to access a place of strength from which to face their challenges. A tool for life! In a one-on-one session, the client and the facilitator enter a form of dialogue. The client is encouraged to share whatever is happening internally, in the moment. The session is entirely spontaneous and unpredictable, fully focused on the needs of the client. A basic premise is that the facilitator does not know what causes or what will relieve the client’s suffering. The client and the facilitator share a journey of discovery wherein the client

Bring the spirit of herbs into your home by Nicola Biggs BA, Herbalist, Aromatherapist I was 13 years old when I connected with a wise woman whose life was totally dedicated to nature. She lived in a cottage and harvested herbs and plants for healing. The experience penetrated me so profoundly that I’ve been pulled towards the world of plants and natural healing ever since.

After graduating I knew exactly what I wanted to do with this knowledge. I wanted to put plant healing and herbal medicine back into the hands of the people. We have now allotted a large section of Optimum Health’s 109 Street location to carry botanical items used to create remedies for health. It is called Earth’s Aromatique. Earth’s Aromatique specializes in essential oils, aromatherapy, natural perfume making, organic herbs and many other botanical ingredients. People come in with an idea or health complaint and we help find recipes, ingredients and even empty bottles to store their finished product.

As I began to look for ways to learn about plant medicine, I was saddened by how this sacred healing practice used for thousands of years was no longer handed down through generations, but instead had turned into a ‘science’ belonging to academics and pharmaceuticals. I wanted to understand the science of healing with plants, but I also wanted to learn more about the spiritual and mystical properties of plants too. I went to university for my Anthropology degree focusing on cultural medicine and also studied various forms of bodywork such as massage, Trager™, Reiki and reflexology. Though this connected me to many healing practices asserting that harmony is dependant on both spiritual and physical health, it did not bring me any closer to meeting plants and herbs on a ‘one-to-one’ basis. During this time I also worked in heath food stores. I gained an appreciation for what herbs could do medicinally, but my soul still longed to go deeper with the actual plants. I met my husband, John, at Optimum Health Vitamins and we have been growing this family business of natural healing and organic aesthetic services (at Kolya Day Spa) ever since.

Butterfly Lunch II © Monika Dery

I loved hearing from people who had Elders, usually grandmothers, that would walk them through the forest pointing at the plants saying such things as: “nettle is good for this and dandelion is good for that.” But this was not part of my upbringing, nor part of my world.

You can make everything from body balms to herbal teas, aromatherapy oils to lotions, bath bombs, aromatic candles, medicinal ointments and more. Every blend can be custom, unique and personalized. Every product is simple, natural and pure. From the massage therapist wanting an exclusive massage oil, to a mother looking to soothe her child’s skin, anyone can benefit from making simple blends perfect for themselves. To make things simple for you, we also offer hands-on classes that provide recipes, ingredients and dozens of essential oils for use. For health practitioners, these classes are approved for continuing education credits.

Earth’s Aromatique is my version of that wise woman’s cottage I saw at 13. I am delighted to now provide a place where people can learn and create botanical remedies for those who love connecting to the ‘green world’ world as much as I do. Nicola is the co-owner of Earth’s Aromatique, Kolya Day Spa & Optimum Health Vitamins (780-432-7955). She has a BA in Anthropology and a Diploma in Integrative Studies being certified in Herbology, Aromatherapy and Flower Essence Therapy. Note: This information is for educational purposes only. It is intended to supplement your current health program and not to replace the care of a doctor. For diagnosis or treatment of any disease please consult a licensed physician.

Then, 20 years after my initial awakening to plants, I found the Earth Medicine Program at Northern Star College of Mystical Studies. It was finally a place where herbal science and plant spirit was taught as one. We studied multiple forms of botanical healing not only for the body, but the mind and soul too. This program included advanced training in herbal remedies, aromatherapy and the profound effects of flower essences. iLoveMosaicMagazine.com

Rosen Method led me back to myself by Cinnamon Cranston RMT, Rosen Method Student I’ve been a ‘helper’ and ‘fixer’ most of my life. But I’m changing. I’m learning to embrace that healing place of not knowing. Rosen Method Bodywork is all about the ‘not knowing’. To help or fix you need answers to provide solutions. Rosen Method instead approaches healing with curiosity about the unknown. Currently in my second year of Rosen Method Bodywork training at the Rosen Method Cascadia Centre in Robert’s Creek, B.C., I have learned that what we, as students, teachers and practitioners of Rosen Method, do know is that people unconsciously hold emotions and the memories associated with them in their bodies.

“Tensions are expressions of emotional attitudes. Whenever we deal with a physical tension we therefore also deal with that particular emotional attitude. Most tension is unconscious and relates to feelings we were not able to handle at the time we experienced something painful. The tension helps keep the feelings at bay, to bury them beneath our awareness in the unconscious… Emotions that we could not handle at the time we originally experienced them are still alive in us, and can emerge any time we stop holding them down. Through relaxation we can actually contact these emotions and/or experiences we could not handle, but can handle now.” Rosen Method touch contacts the tension in people’s muscles while they are in a resting state (lying on a massage table). The practitioners notice the breath and whether it is shallow, forced, controlled or free and

The muscles of the body work very hard to protect us from feeling emotional pain. Marion Rosen, physiotherapist,

founder of Rosen Method Bodywork and author of Rosen Method Bodywork Accessing the Unconscious Through Touch (North Atlantic Books, 2003), explains this concept in the following excerpt from her book:

relaxed. They also carry the intention of meeting whatever is there emotionally for that person with both compassion and curiosity about the holding and the possibility of its release. The practitioner does not seek to ‘fix’ or ‘help’ the client with their tension but rather supports the holding in their body so that the person can relax and connect within themselves. This allows them the opportunity to find their own answers and to unlock their own barriers. Deeply held feelings have an opportunity to be released and a deep sense of relaxation and a stronger connection to the inner self can result, or as Marion says: “the hidden jewel (core essence) of our true self can emerge.” This has certainly been true for me. Over the last year I have made subtle yet powerful shifts in how I live my life and I have Rosen Method to thank for it. Growing up in an alcoholic home I learned early on that it was not safe to express my true feelings. They were either unheard or used against me. So I held them inside me and numbed myself to them building a thick wall around my heart so as to never be hurt again. Thank goodness I did because it helped me survive my childhood without losing my mind. But as an adult I was always left wanting more in my relationships. Since changing others didn’t work, I was left with myself to change. Prayer, meditation and therapy all helped me but yet there was still a part of me that yearned for deeper connection to my family, friends and even myself. Being a Registered Massage Therapist I was also very aware that my body continually carried a lot of tension especially in my shoulders, neck, lower back and hips. I exercised regularly, saw a chiropractor, stretched and while the tension lessened, it was never resolved. My desire to love more fully and feel more alive was sincere, and my effort unyielding, but my goal was always just out of reach. Bouts of restlessness, irritability, anxiety and sometimes dread continued to haunt me. Something was still holding me back. Then I tried Rosen Method.

this memory before, however, I had never been able to let the feelings of that moment come forward. Feeling the love and support of the Rosen Method practitioner, I was finally able to let myself have that experience, now knowing it was safe to do so and that I now could handle it. After the feelings of pain washed through I felt myself lighten and in my mind I saw my little girl get up off of my mother and come back into me. I felt a deep peace within myself. I noticed all the muscles in my hips, back and legs release from what felt like years of holding. I then had a moment where I felt a profound joy in just being alive. I felt like I’d found myself and that this was what I had been looking for all along. Since incorporating Rosen Method into my life, I am more able to just be in the moment and enjoy the feeling of being alive. I have more clarity and more choices because I am more present and more grounded. I can respond to the situations of my life instead of reacting to them. Of course this is not always the case. Sometimes the old ways return but their grip on me has lessened and my resistance to the unknown has lessened. I keep returning to my body and to the present finding new pieces of myself along the way. As my teacher Mariette Berinstein says: “Stay tuned…” Cinnamon Cranston is the director of Aidem Health Centre and a registered massage therapist, Reiki practitioner and student of Rosen Method Bodywork. Rosen Method was the bridge that led me to the gateway of my truest self, my soul and my unconscious resistance to letting that out. By keeping the pain locked inside I also kept myself locked inside. While my outside presented as intelligent, capable, creative and hardworking my heart was closely hidden. Rosen Method has taught me to allow whatever is there to come forward. I am learning to let myself have my experiences fully while also realizing that they were my experiences, not who I am. Yes I was raised by an alcoholic, yes I was emotionally abandoned, yes I was sexually abused AND that is not who I am. That is what I experienced. Now I am free to be who I really am and to choose the experiences I want in my life today. During a recent session, a memory came forward of a very traumatic experience that occurred when I was eight years old. I was lying on top of my mother clinging to her unconscious body. I was in absolute despair, afraid she was going to die and leave me all alone. I had been aware of iLoveMosaicMagazine.com

One doctor’s story of holistic dentistry by Dr. Terry Clarke Holistic Dentist

also tested high in these materials but am somewhat less affected and can still practice dentistry.

When we moved to the Northwest Territories in the early 1980’s we knew it would change our lifestyle, but we didn’t know it would change the way we also practiced dentistry.

Laurena’s health issues, due primarily to the toxicity from the dental materials, led us on a healing journey we never could have anticipated. The more we discovered how dangerous some of the outdated dental materials and practices were, the more we delved into learning about effective alternatives, how to provide safe dentistry and how to support the immune system for ourselves and our patients.

Our usual transportation across the vast frozen Arctic tundra was a lumbering 1940’s vintage DC-3 twin propeller aircraft. Our 1,500 pound, three month supply of equipment, materials and food was strapped tightly and filled one side of the bay. Eventually eight hours of snow-white barren landscape gratefully revealed signs of life when clumps of buildings rose from the barren horizon and we arrived at an Inuit community of 210 people that hunted seal for sustenance. We learned to cherish the people, the land and the perspective it afforded us from our time together in the remoteness of the North. Initially we utilized our traditional dental training to treat the incredible dental demand encountered. Amalgam fillings were used extensively to meet the overwhelming backlog of these underserved patients. An accepted material by the Dental Associations, we did our best in adverse conditions to provide the help we could.

Our Arctic adventure afforded us regular opportunities to travel and take over 20 years of combined training in the fields of Holistic Medicine and Dentistry, for the purpose of self-healing and to enhance our expertise for future service endeavors. We took courses in everything from aromatherapy, herbology and blood chemistry analysis to intraoral lasers, ceramic restoratives and biological dentistry. In 2004 we decided to move to Alberta and open a holistic dental clinic, Casa de Luz, near Sherwood Park. Casa de Luz (House of Light) is a tribute to our extensive yearning, learning and training in the holistic disciplines. Firestorm © Rose-Marie Cameron

My wife, Laurena, and I bid farewell to our successful high-end dental practice in Southern California, setting our sights north - very north to a region of Canada that was in extreme need of dentists. Not satisfied to utilize our training and skills to satisfy the dubious demand of patients to simply ‘look better’, we focused on a location where we could ‘do good’ in a dentally under-serviced region most would choose to avoid.

We offer health focused, state-of-the-art, preventive family dental medicine with a holistic philosophy and incorporate whole body nutritional support from ‘Laurena’s Kitchen’ with training, seminars and oneon-one consultation addressing the most important considerations of vital physical health and well-being.

As members of IAOMT (International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology) we recognize the potential for immunological, systemic or neurological system reaction to non-compatible dental materials. And, we have the expertise and training to offer other solutions to you.

Terry graduated from the University of Sydney, Australia. He and his wife, Laurena, have an extensive background in teaching and studying at numerous advanced International Holistic Institutes. Laurena, a children’s dentist, subsequently developed a serious, somewhat debilitating, accumulation of heavy metals including mercury, lead and cadmium as a result from our work and exposure to toxic dental materials. Today she can no longer practice dentistry nor expose herself to seemingly routine materials including detergents, gasoline, perfumes or chemical materials. I

My journey to becoming a healer by Summer Bozohora My life’s journey has led me to become a healer, teacher and guide. My path however, was not always clear. As a young child I remember waking each morning feeling joy and gratitude. I felt confident and was grounded with a faith in a universal ‘something’ I knew I was a part of. As I grew, this confidence and faith disappeared. Like many of us, my family and upbringing was dysfunctional. My parents either did not speak or they argued and my brother often hid under the stairs. I was left alone or ignored as my parents were swept up within their emotional chaos. Despite my deep feelings of emptiness (or perhaps because of them) I have always felt that something richer, more meaningful and life-giving existed. In truth, it is my sense of internal chaos and a need for order, a longing to feel a sense of harmony with the divine nature of life, that called me to become a teacher, guide and healer.

I had a vivid dream about this calling when I was 12 years old. I dreamt that I sat with others in a purposeful and connected way, the way a dear, wise grandmother might. I sat beside, rather than across from the person I was with and had the sensation that I was really with them. The essence of the dream was eternal support - everything I was going through had purpose. Through the dream I knew that I was a formless and timeless being, who in this life would be able to understand the depths of others feelings of alienation. Later, I either trained, or worked within a cluster of interrelated health/therapeutic professions but none of them felt quite right. Knowing that my purpose was to guide others was different from figuring out how I would do it - until I finished my Masters degree in Theology. The word theology literally means the study of God, deriving from the Greek word ‘theos’ meaning ‘God’ and the suffix ‘ology’ from the Greek word ‘to study’. My favorite definition of Theology is: “The exploration of that wisdom that awakens and sustains the creative impulse of life.” O’Murchu, Quantum Theology (The Crossroad Publishing Company, 2004).

Canola and Flax Field © Margaret Sonnenberg — www.margsweb.shawwebspace.ca

It took me eight years to complete my Theology degree. During those years, the creative impulse of my life was awakened. Through it, I have come to understand how every life experience, illness, infection, disease and emotional trauma has meaning and purpose - my own and those of my clients. The possibilities that incubate below the surface of my clients’ symptoms engage my curiosity and sense of adventure. At our first meeting, one of my clients was clinically depressed and sought me out in desperation. She was suicidal and clearly distressed about the possibility of being hospitalized for the third time. She was an artist, unable to utilize or employ her craft and functioning was difficult. I eased her into herself through meditation and spontaneous art that had no other purpose than to express her truth in the moment. I sat with her and watched her unfold, her suicidal thoughts draining through that eternal portal of support that I feel exists everywhere and always - no longer only in my dreams. Now she brings this eternal support and affirmation of her life to others, through her own gifts. My Theology degree and my work with clients gave me purpose, but something was still missing. I needed a community in which to work and as it turns out, my community found me. As soon as Karyn Stirling told me about her vision

for Expressionz Café, a café and centre for the arts and well-being, I knew I wanted to have my healing centre and school located in the same building. My vision in creating The Canadian School for Self-Healing (CSSH) is to offer experiential learning and spiritual exploration in yoga, meditation, expressive art and selfhealing. Using some unique approaches, I support my clients and students to view themselves as the expert and to be actively engaged in their healing process. At CSSH, I act as a collaborative guide who sets (by example) a pathway for the client to embrace the unknown. As humans evolve, consciousness shifts and as a student or a teacher, a patient or a doctor, we must always be open to the mystery that is beyond what we have previously known. By embracing, accepting, honoring and trusting our life’s experiences, we begin to learn we are safe, that the universe/God is miraculous, that life does have meaning and purpose - even chronic pain, illness and disease. The educational material for CSSH is drawn from a unique and diverse set of sources: my education, my personal experiences and intuitive knowledge, other spiritual teachers and mystics, physicians, healers and physicists (some are very obscure gems that took the eight years of my thesis research to discover). Students are also invited to deepen their learning through private tutorials and sessions - practicing the core practice of the school, INOWT Meditation (an active, open and creative form of meditation whereby the students learn to track the ‘energy trail’ of their life). Energy is faster than physical processes and the body does not lie. When we accept, honor and trust what our body tells us and act accordingly, it returns to a state of balance, harmony and health. The Canadian School for Self-Healing is on the second floor of the Expressionz building. On the main floor, the café offers homemade soups, stews and savoury sandwiches and is the first to serve alkaline water by the glass. It’s a truly creative sanctuary where artists of every ilk and age (singers, musicians, dancers, drummers, improvisational artists, writers and painters) express what life is to them. A woman who has visited twice now has survived aggressive cancer and chose the walls of our gallery to hang the only painting she created. She painted her cancer. It is powerful. The gallery walls surrounding the café are a living testimony to the spirit and journey of healing. Our joint grand opening is September 15-18. We invite you to immerse yourself in workshops, concerts and samples of everything creative, unique, fresh and inspiring. Join us. How to stop trying and start thriving Life is busy and it’s difficult not to get caught up in ‘doing doing, doing’. Constant ‘doing’ can stress you out, bring you aches and pains or make you sick. Gradually the doing becomes ineffective. You expend a lot of effort or you keep on trying and trying but alas, little gets accomplished. Network Care gives you the tools to adapt to the demands of changing times with ease. When you become aware of your neck and shoulder tension or low back discomfort or you feel overwhelmed or shut down, most of us wish it would just go away. This tendency of moving away from our tension or trying to make it change is part of our problem and it becomes a bad habit. What you resist persists. You can’t become who you want to be (or get where you want to go) by moving away from something. Our body builds itself according to the demands we put on it. Wanting pain to go away, or trying to change it, doesn’t work because it doesn’t help the body prepare itself for what you want to do next. Instead, focus on how your life would improve if you didn’t have the limitation. We can only become who we want to be by moving toward who we want to be. Network Care uses light touches along the spine to make the conscious mind aware of areas of your body that store tension. These areas are under the influence of the body defenses. They are difficult to feel/touch or to move and they are places we don’t breathe into. When events in your life trigger them, they store up tension and your health begins to suffer.

Some people can use their body language, voice and even their eyes to convince or deceive, but there are three things that always tell the truth. The first truth teller of the body is breath. The way we breathe is very difficult to use in a lie. Try it; breathe in the same way someone breathes when they’re angry. After 30 seconds say: “I love you.” It doesn’t sound right, does it? We hear the words but the breath tells us they’re angry. The next truth is movement. Move your body slowly around or just make the posture of a totally lazy person. After about 30 seconds say: “I’m ready to take on ANY challenge!” It should feel wrong. No matter how well you can make your voice sound confident, you still look lazy and lifeless. The way we move gives us away. The third truth teller is touch. When sharing a hug or a handshake we can usually tell the difference between warmth and something that feels more distant or disconnected. Our awareness of touch tells us if we like this experience or if we don’t. A good hug has a certain ease to it. There’s no effort or trying about it. Network Care treatments help you connect to areas of stored tension and then transforms it into ease: your breath expands, the movement/function of the area improves and you’re able to feel the area without defense. After several sessions and some practice with the breathing exercise, you’ll be able to use your awareness of ease and the three truth tellers to make choices that enhance your ability to heal. So I ask my clients to discover what situations in their lives cause them to feel challenged or to ‘check out’. I also ask them to be aware of situations where they feel at ease or checked in. A place of ease in the body is easy to breathe into, move and touch/feel. Network Care uses a simple breathing exercise to help you understand how to use the three truth tellers of the body to transform areas of stored tension into ease. As your awareness of ease increases it can show you how to stop trying and instead make choices that help you to thrive.

What exactly is happiness? Everyone seeks happiness. But what is happiness? We all know what happiness feels like, but what exactly is it? This question is important; to find happiness you must first know what to look for. Happiness eludes most people, largely because, few people know what happiness is. They’re looking for happiness - in all the wrong places. If you were to ask 100 people: “What will make you happy?” most, in one way or another, will answer: “Money.” Many will tell you: “I just want to win the lottery. That’s all I need.” But can money really make us happy? If money has the power to make people happy, why is it every time we turn around, we hear stories of the rich and famous embroiled in conflict, drinking themselves into oblivion, dying from drug overdoses or even attempting suicide? Money is a means of exchange, a tool, that’s all. It can’t make you happy any more than a hammer, a saw or a wrench. Of course, it isn’t actually money people want. They want to buy more things. Pardon me for asking, but why? Can a car make you happy? A bigger TV? Another pair of shoes? Our affluent society has produced a strange new phenomenon - garages full of ‘stuff’, discards in the crusade for happiness, forgotten, gathering dust. Money and things won’t make you happy; they can’t. Happiness isn’t ‘out there’. Psychologists are aware of the fact, and common sense would indicate, that we function at our best when we are striving for something we want. When we are motivated, involved, life feels good. Professor Charles Kingsley said: “We act as though comfort and luxury were the chief requirements of life, when all that we need to make us really happy is something to be enthusiastic about.” Helen Keller said it this way: “Many people have a wrong idea of what constitutes true happiness. It is not attained through self-gratification, but through fidelity to a worthy purpose.” Happiness is having a purpose, something to be enthusiastic about. Happiness isn’t something that happens to you; you don’t find happiness - you create your own.

iLoveMosaicMagazine.com

To create your own happiness, you must first know who you are. Since the beginning of time people have asked: “Who am I?” If you contemplate the question: “Who am I?” you soon come to the question: “Why am I here?” We all have a purpose, a destiny. This is what life is all about. So here’s the good news - YOU are your purpose - you, being who you truly are, becoming all you can become. If you think about this for a moment, you’ll realize that that’s the way it must be if life is to make any sense. Happiness is making your life mean something, making a difference. It doesn’t have to be a big difference. You don’t have to change the world; you just need to find something to be enthusiastic about, that will make a difference to you. And interestingly, because of the ripple effect, it will make a difference in the world. When you’re happy, you create happiness around you. So get interested in something: butterflies, astronomy, philosophy, whatever appeals to you. Talking on the Dock © Kathy Meaney

by Steve Hunt Author of The Miracle Theory

Happiness is knowing who you are, what you genuinely want, and making your dream your reality. Happiness is not some whimsical emotion that flits in and out of your life. Happiness is attained, and once attained, it cannot be taken away. Best of all, it is available to you. You can be genuinely happy - we all can. This article is the first in a series. In the next issue of Mosaic Magazine we’ll consider the question: Happiness, how important is it? Steve Hunt is an Edmonton writer and an authority on happiness. Thoughts about the ‘V’ word Last year I attended an annual event hosted by my partner’s extended family. While sitting amidst a group of mothers, someone asked me if I knew what had caused my son’s Type 1 Diabetes. What happened next has left me with a healthy respect regarding the use of the ‘V’ word (vaccinations) in public. Of course it is only my opinion (combined with a mother’s intuition/guilt) and my medical training, but it seems to me that one of the best ways to convince the human immune system to attack things that we’d rather it didn’t (like my son’s pancreas!), is to inject live viruses and other toxic substances into it. Why is it important to meticulously clean and cover a cut, but perfectly okay to inject aluminum, mercury, formaldehyde, chicken embryos, peanut oil and live viruses into the body? (Yes, you read that correctly they’ve been putting peanut oil into many vaccinations for approximately 12 years now!) The youngest mother in the group became very angry with me and tried to convince me of my flawed thinking. “Don’t you realize the good that vaccinations have done? What about the many lives that have been saved? What about those awful Polio stories that we’ve all heard?” I have heard those stories; then I heard something even scarier. Did you hear the one about the scientist (Jonas Salk) who invented the Polio vaccine, then claimed that virtually ALL outbreaks of Polio (since) could be attributed to it?

already dealing with that ‘summer cold’. This is what caused the big, scary outbreak of Polio that we’ve all heard about. The vaccination caused mutations of the natural Polio. That’s what happens with vaccinations, especially in this case, as the immune system was already fighting Polio at the time of the vaccination campaign. This is a little known fact in the history of vaccinations, but it is a fact that I urge everyone reading to verify for themselves. Another fact is that before the Polio vaccine we had only three strains of Polio and now we have 70 ‘Polio-like’ diseases.

A Warm Welcome © Bernadette McCormack

by Tammie Quick DMH, DHHP

I remember being a new mother, wanting desperately to make the right choices for my children. I too, got caught up in fear and I chose vaccinations to protect them. I wish I had known then that homeopathy offered a safe and effective alternative. I can’t help but ask myself: “If I’d chosen that alternative, would I have a child with Type 1 Diabetes now? Would his brother still have an ‘autistic spectrum’ diagnosis?

My hypothesis has been confirmed by a neurosurgeon named Russel Blaylock. He is a scientist who has publicly (and bravely) stated that Type 1 Diabetes (among other maladies) is definitively linked to childhood vaccinations. It only makes sense, as the latest research tells us that the immune system is attacking the beta cells of the pancreas, for unknown reasons. Do your own research and be very clear about the true risks of vaccinations. For more information on Heilkunst, Homeopathy and Vaccinations, please visit Tammie's website at www.quick-health.ca or call 780-221-6127. Note: This information is for educational purposes only. So I decided to do a little research (and go to an alternative medical school). I learned that before the advent of the Polio vaccine it was extremely rare for someone to fall severely ill to Polio. At that time Polio was nothing more than a ‘summer cold’. Mothers knew to send their kids out into the fresh air and sunshine and to limit their sugar consumption. I did read about one gal who was diagnosed with a bad case of Polio and was paralyzed for three weeks. But she recovered fully, with no complications. Then two things happened - the vaccine was invented and it was administered at exactly the same time that we were

In awe of Reconnective Healing® Many people spend considerable time looking for their life’s work, their unique path. I have always known. As a small child, I brought every hurt animal or child home to ‘get better’. My mother thought I would be a doctor or a veterinarian. However, I chose nursing instead. I am a healer. Very early in my nursing career, disenchanted with the ‘revolving door’ of allopathic medicine, I entered Occupational Health nursing. Alternative healing modalities beckoned through tiny windows of opportunity with employee/clients and through my own insatiable desire to learn and grow. I learned and taught clients about chiropractic, reflexology, iridology, kinesiology, nutrition, herbs, yoga, shiatsu, massage, Reiki and Polarity Therapy. Then in 2008, I started listening to Jennifer MacLean’s CD’s, Healing with the Masters: The Daily Work, (HealingRelease.com, 2008), while commuting from Leduc to Hinton for a work contract. One CD was an interview with Dr. Eric Pearl, creator of Reconnective Healing®. After listening to it three times going to Hinton and three times returning, I looked up a local Reconnective Healing® Practitioner on the website (www.TheReconnection.com) and knew I had to be personally Reconnected®. Then I took the first available Level I, II and III Reconnective Healing® courses in Calgary. According to Dr. Pearl, Reconnective Healing® occurs as a result of the transfer of energy, light and information. I was dumbfounded at the simplicity and ease with which every person in the class was able to work with these frequencies. Some were healthcare practitioners, but most were from far different backgrounds.

the tingling in my hand as I searched for, found and ‘played with’ the frequencies around the person on the table. Reconnective Healing® is ‘light years beyond’ anything else I’ve ever seen or experienced. I have witnessed immediate changes such as cleared and perfect eyesight, loss of grief that had lingered for months, loss of severe depression, a client being able to touch his toes after barely being able to initially even get on the massage table due to severe back pain, the immediate and permanent elimination of migraines and a lengthening of a contracted side of the body. Some effects are subtle and showed up later such as balancing of emotions, shrinkage of cancer tumors, a shift in perspective and attitude or an ability to live with less stress. Clients experience the frequencies in their own ways. Prairie Sky © Ausilia Corso — www.ausiliacorso

by Kim Scott Reconnective Healing Practitioner®

As a healer, I’m still in awe as I summon these frequencies that play in me and in my clients and that enable balancing and healing at every level. After 40+ years of nursing, I have a healthy dose of skepticism. I am a ‘show me’ person. Reconnective Healing® has shown me.

I am honored to facilitate this new, real, different form of healing. It is what I always knew healing should be: absolutely simple, built in and available to anyone for the asking, tailored by the Universe, God, Love, All-That-Is to be exactly perfect for each individual willing to step forward and experience it. Although still actively practicing nursing, as a registered nurse and a nursing instructor, I knew I had found what I had been seeking, or rather it had found me. When I first started practicing, like Dr. Pearl, I too had tiny blisters in my palm but only on my left hand. I could feel

Creating Rites of Passage ceremonies by Angie Hall Aboriginal Healer and Teacher It was a beautiful spring day when I found myself at a Naming Ceremony near Lac La Nonne, Alberta. A Naming Ceremony is an Aboriginal tradition. One receives a ‘Spirit Name’ or ‘Power Name’ that describes the essence of their being.

However, I did not receive a Spirit Name that day. It was not my day. But my search had begun. I would find a way to recreate this ceremony. I would find my Spirit Name. And I would learn how to give others their name in a similar Rites of Passage ceremony. While I knew this journey would not be easy, I knew this was my path. At one point during the ceremony I felt the presence of my deceased Cree-Métis grandmother behind me. Her joy and love radiated through my body. Since that day I have never been the same. I became overwhelmed with passion to recreate this type of ‘Rites of Passage’ ceremony for others. I believe that everyone should have the opportunity to participate in a Rites of Passage ceremony and know their Spirit Name. A Rites of Passage is a sacred ceremony that marks an important event or passage from one stage to another. In the Aboriginal culture there are many Rites Of Passage: initiation into adulthood, initiation into a society (warrior, artisan, healer), name giving, marriage, initiation into a Sundance ceremony. Witnessing this ceremony, I knew these Spirit Names would help these girls in the most profound way. Through their Spirit Names they would come to understand their strengths and gifts - something that would help them their entire lives. I understood that a big part of my passion for this came from an inner need to know myself. Raised in foster care, I longed to know who I was in many different ways.

That moment seems only like yesterday and yet it has already been eight years. I was the lead teacher for this field trip, accompanying the Cultural Coordinator and the Aboriginal Girls Dance Troupe. The Elder that performed the ceremony was a gifted seer. The young girls sat in a circle with their parents beside them. As the ceremony was performed I could see the excitement and pride of everyone as the dancers received their Spirit Names.

names was rare. So I decided to study outside the culture and took many courses to heighten my psychic abilities (meditation, Reiki, angel readings, tarot, dowsing and journeying). Then I found a shaman. I studied under her for 1½ years and received the name: ‘Lightning Dove’. I have to agree it suited me and I loved it. But over time my health began to deteriorate. I was extremely tired, gaining weight, developing chest pains and a body rash. I went for a physical and my doctor explained I was under extreme stress. “What is going on in your life?” she asked. Confused, I sought a medium for help. It was then I was told that this shaman was stealing my energy! I was devastated. It took me a year to regain my health. In the meanwhile this medium had an Aboriginal Spirit Guide that taught me the basics of shamanism. He called me: iLoveMosaicMagazine.com

‘Running Girl’. I wondered why that name and eventually I found out. Having received two names already, I still hadn’t developed the ability to give names. Bringing my request again to the Universe, I asked for another teacher. Within days I learned of another healer and after studying under him over the next year, amazing things began to happen. Many gifts from my childhood began to return and new ones started to present themselves. I began to have profound visions. I began to channel spirits. I started to heal people more intensely with my hands. Beautiful poetry started flowing out of me. I learned I’m here to do prophetic and healing artwork - to be God’s paintbrush. I realized that my deep desire to recreate Rites Of Passage ceremonies for others was due to my need to create structured pathways for myself. In order to be truly open so I could let sacred healing artwork come through me, I knew I needed to remove old karma, old mind sets, old destructive behavior patterns, old beliefs, old needs and wants, old hurts and pains, old ways of being. I need to be as a child - present and in joy with the world around me. Rites of Passage ceremonies helped me do that. In a very intense and difficult period of awakening and learning to adjust to my new gifts and life, I was serendipitously guided to the exact right people to help me. I painted a healing drum. I channeled healing songs. I channeled more healing poems. I started seeing an art therapist. I learned many cleansing and healing activities. I even started my own business healing others.

Aboriginal traditions in a new way. I am presently working on a manual. This healing journal will include prayers, Aboriginal ceremonies, intuitive activities, poetic stories, drumming songs, guided journey work, journal reflections, angel messages and creative/spiritual Aboriginal artisan work. This journal will be provided to the participants of these series. The Rites of Passage Empowerment series are for all people. You are here for a higher purpose, but you must do the work. It is like digging for hidden treasure. Through the work you will uncover your true nature that has been buried under years of society expectations, family expectations, inherited cellular memory and past life karma. You will take ownership and leadership of your life. You will become an initiate dedicated to walking in a higher consciousness. You will put your Spirit first. You will know you are a god and you will begin to act like one. Your name will then make sense to you when your receive it. In the middle of all the chaos, Creator gave me my name. It is Aguenus. It has many meanings. This is how the Spirit world works. One experience has many meanings. The most profound meaning is: ‘One Who Knows’. I hold the water of life and see your godly reflection. This is how I know. Angie is a gifted Aboriginal Healer, Teacher, Artist, Poet, Seer and Visionary. Visit her website at www.aguenus.com for workshop dates or call 780-710-4243 or angie@aguenus.com.

Through all this work I had the most profound realization. I was in karma - in a continuous pattern of abandonment, betrayal and jealousy and it was a big blind spot for me. I clearly saw many lifetimes of living both sides of that coin. I was: ‘Running Girl’ because my life was being run by a deeply engrained pattern. We cannot change what we do not own so I decided to own this. I created this life, all of it, even my life in foster care. It was my play and I was losing out because I needed to awaken and to take ownership. Now that I have empowered myself and taken full responsibility for all my experiences, I am wise enough to hold the gift of name giving. I have just recently held my first naming ceremony. It was beautiful. I gave five women their names. With permission and prayer to our Creator I move into the person’s essence. From there I receive a multi-dimensional vision filled with universal symbolism, emotions and knowing. I then capture all of this in a few words. It is profound! These Rites Of Passage ceremonies have become a way of life for me. I mark every important step in my life now with a ceremony. It is a continuous pattern I walk through. It is like a ring of fire spiraling up a mountain towards God. Everything I learn on my journey, I weave into my Rites Of Passage Empowerment series. Facing the challenge of healing myself

by Sandra Haviar I’ve been facilitating healing and touched the lives of hundreds of people through my work as a massage therapist and workshop instructor over the last 15 years. But now I’m facing the ultimate healing challenge healing myself. I worked as a massage therapist for 11 years, specializing in Hawaiian mind-body massage and Lomi Lomi, but five years ago needed to cut back when I decided to focus on being a mother. It was wonderful to be able to stay at home with my children while offering a few massages a week. But on February 1, 2010, my perfect world changed. I woke up that morning feeling numb and tingling on one

side, having slurred speech and altered vision. My husband, Robert, called the ambulance and met me at the hospital with our two children. In a CAT scan, they found a huge brain tumor. The next day they followed up with a MRI and the surgeon had terrible news. He explained to us the area of the brain that was affected so far and what the possibilities were, with the recommendation for surgery. I started to have an increasing number of mini-seizures on a daily basis, so I began anti-seizure medication and therefore could no longer drive a vehicle. I also started receiving numerous alternative healthcare treatments, working with a chiropractor, naturopath, homeopath, craniosacral therapist, massage therapist, Reiki practitioner and intuitive healer.

Unfortunately, a MRI in March showed no sign of shrinkage so I surrendered to an upcoming surgery for a biopsy. One month of strep throat and challenges with the mini-seizures led up to six more visits to the hospital emergencies. My Mom, realizing how difficult this crisis was for me, my husband and my children, came from Manitoba to help out with everything. Whether it was organizing daycare for my children, or being there waiting for me after my surgery, I was so thankful for her there. In May, after the biopsy brain surgery, I was provided with the name and magnitude of my challenge - I have a large Oligodendroglioma, Grade II Cancer, currently labeled as incurable by the medical community. This sounds very discouraging, yet there is some hope if we can find ways to stimulate my immune system and fully detoxify my body. I’ve found an alternative healthcare doctor who is helping me in this process, with access to detailed testing in the United States. However, the tests and prescriptions are extremely expensive, between $10,000 and $15,000. My husband, Robert, is self-employed as a Massage Therapist in an office in our home and he’s also an instructor at MH Vicars School of Massage Therapy. It’s been extremely challenging for our family to deal with these huge test costs, medications, daycare fees and loss in Robert’s income (due to taking time off work in order to help me). Robert’s students, particularly Erin Stevens and Crystal Dunn, created an incredible fundraiser for us on July 17. They organized a full day of massage therapists volunteering their time with massages to raise money for us. It was followed by a BBQ, a band and dancing, as well as a huge Silent Auction. There were numerous donations

iLoveMosaicMagazine.com

and so many other massage therapists, clients, and friends who assisted. What they did for us was beyond belief and we’re so very grateful to have this kind of support from everyone here in our community. Now there is enough money for me to begin my path of healing and we would be extremely thankful to anyone else who would like to help. Donations can be made to the “Haviar Family Fundraiser” at any Royal Bank in Edmonton. Both Robert and I feel so completely honored and grateful for all of the wonderful support we’ve received in this process. Of course, I would love to heal so I can have ‘healing hands’ to offer again as a massage therapist and to be fully available for my beautiful boys and husband. If you would like to contact us our email is srhaviar@telus.net and Robert’s work number is 780-4982864. The Facebook title is 'Healing Hands for the Haviars.'

Esoteric Explorations

What are you communicating? by Catherine Potter Astrologer and Hypnotherapist Recently I was teaching a class on communication and how, when we are communicating with others, it is helpful to remember that in any situation everybody involved is simply trying to get their needs met. When conversations go off track it is often because the adults have left the room and our agitated, frustrated or starving children are in charge.

When we have self acceptance (even for our nasty bits), self love and take the time for self care and nourishment, we end up feeling fulfilled and happy. The more we feel fulfilled the more we want it for others. This month pay close attention to your communication and interactions with the significant people in your life. Notice the conversations that are satisfying and the ones that aren’t. Re-evaluate and in both situations (satisfied or not) if you look closely you may find that one or all of the four A’s were involved. Make a commitment to be responsible for taking care of your needs and I promise you when you are

Raging River © Amy Keller-Rempp — www.amykeller.com

A point to remember is that we all need the four A’s: attention, affection, acceptance and acknowledgement. When we don’t receive them it is easy to go to a place of feeling unfulfilled and blaming someone else for not meeting our needs.

As always when attempting to gain clarity in our interactions with others the best place to start is with our self. Are we first giving ourselves enough of the four A’s rather than waiting for someone else to figure out how to do it for us? (That never works out well.)

Here is a little assignment to help you observe (don’t judge) where you are with taking care of your needs. Make a list of words to describe how you feel when your needs are unmet (afraid, bitter, jealous, lost, tired, frightened, skeptical, disconnected, nauseous, overwhelmed, etc.). Now make a list of words to describe how you feel when your needs are met (alive, vibrant, delicious, strong, healthy, happy, content, hopeful, etc.). Take note of when the words from the ‘unmet needs list’ creeps into your conversations with others - it may start with: “It is your fault that I am…” or “You make me feel…” Take responsibility for the fact that it is you taking the actions that continue to either feed your needs or not. Focus on the words from your ‘needs met list’ and choose to take actions at least several times a week that help you feel alive, strong, etc. This article first appeared as part of Catherine’s on-line ezine/newsletter at www.catherinepotter.ca An Astrologer since 1986, Catherine is also a Hypnotherapist and Meditation instructor. Feng Shui and your doorway The purpose of Feng Shui is to assist you in creating greater ease and flow in all areas of your life. The doorways and foyers into and out of our homes are also the portals that energy flows into and out of our lives. Here are some tips that will help you open the door to what you want and let go of what no longer serves you. The front door to your home is the entry point for all of the energy that gathers in your home. Think of the energy that enters your home as a small child. If the child sees something that he loves upon entering, he’ll bring lots of joy into your home. If however, the entry is congested and the child trips, he’ll bring lots of crying and problems into your home. A front entrance must feel spacious, beautiful, clean and bright. A child entering such a space would feel safe to move freely and explore. Such a space brings good fortune. The back entrance to the home represents our ability to let go of what is no longer needed or in harmony with our lives. If a back entrance is congested, dark or small, it creates the energy of ‘holding onto things’ beyond their usefulness. If our home is congested with old energy, we are often stuck in the past and unable to move forward with our goals. People in these homes often feel overwhelmed and are easily tired. Physically, the condition of constipation (and more seriously, colon cancer) can be a result of congested energy that cannot move freely out the back entrance to our home.

love that they have given to your home and those in your home. Ask them if there is any area of the home that they would like to offer guidance about, anything that you can do (with their help) to positively change the energy in your home. The guardians will sometimes give very specific guidance and other times it will be more symbolic. If the message is symbolic and difficult to understand, let the guardians know that you don’t quite understand and then continue to stay open to receiving clear guidance. Once when I was doing this cure with a client, while asking the main door guardians for guidance, we both noticed a strong scent of roses. I asked if roses had any specific meaning for her but they didn’t. So we decided to create a spray of rosewater for the home. She began to spray the rosewater at the front door and throughout her home, while offering gratitude to the door’s guardians. In My Secret Life © Doris Charest

Within a few weeks, areas of her life that had been stuck for years began to change! She started dating a man that she later married. She found a teaching job after working outside of her chosen profession for several years. Her physical energy and health began to steadily improve. Now, whenever she feels stuck in some area of her life, she goes to the front door and consults the guardians of the doorway. May all your doorways be clear and bright and may the guardians shower your home with blessings. Skye has specialized in Feng Shui for the home and business for over 30 years. In Feng Shui there is a wonderful transcendental cure (meaning that you join your own energy with the energy of unseen helpers to transcend the ordinary and create miracles) that involves invoking the guardians of the doorway to your home. Begin outside your main entrance. Place the palms of your hands against your door and call on the guardians. Let the guardians know that you appreciate the protection and

Artist’s Gallery

Learning to be God’s paintbrush by Angie Hall Sitting in front of an intuitive reader, she glanced up into the corner of her thoughts and then back at me.

“What medium do you use?” she asked. “What do you mean?” I replied. “You are an artist, yes?” she said confidently. “No,” I answered curiously. She looked at me perplexed. “This artwork you will be doing one day is profound.” Then she continued on with the reading. I remember thinking that she was a waste of money. Yet over the years the same message kept finding its way back to me - to be an artist. But I argued with it: “Why would I paint? I have no training. I already have a career as an Elementary School Teacher.” But I did have a reason and it was far bigger than I could ever imagine! Through a series of life changing experiences, including receiving my Spirit Name, Aguenus, I discovered I am a prophetic artist, here to complete a mission. Since this realization I have had incredible intervening by the Spirit world with many Spirits (masters, angels, animal, healers and guides) becoming my teachers. They are showing me how to become clean and as clear as a child.

Why? So I can be God’s paintbrush. God will paint through me so I can bring messages to the people. Through all of this the most important message I have received and keep sacred is: “It is not you doing the artwork! It is God and never forget that!” To experience this is humility and I have been honored to have been filled with the Holy Spirit on three separate occasions. What is it like to be prepared for this work? It is earth shaking! Every day I must learn to release old mind sets, old karma, old attitudes, old beliefs and old ways of being that do not vibrate with my true essence. Almost every other day I am shown a new way of letting go and then I must adjust. Through it all I am so honored to be able to do this work. Most rewarding is the growth in my skill since my first painting. My visions have become multidimensional and my artistic skill is developing. An incredible surprise was the poetry and drumming songs that also began to flow out of me over time.

Today, I continue to paint for people who want a message from God and for the Aboriginal Ancestral Spirits. I am presently working on a painting and poem for a girl from Europe and also on an incredible vision given to me from the Aztec Master Spirits. Con Amore

(Italian) With heart and soul

My Mom, some shoes, some soul sisters “You’re an old soul.” A woman in Medicine Hat told me that when I was about 25 years old, after I tried on a pair of her shoes and they fit me perfectly. Intrigued, I asked her why she said that. She told me that a guru told her that she was an old soul based on how she fit her shoes (soles), and seeing as I fit her shoes perfectly, I must be an old soul too. I hadn’t thought of that woman or her shoes or the age of my soul in a long, long time. But I did one Saturday when out of the blue, I decided to go through my shoes in a cleaning spree.

One of her dear friends, Carol Majeau died of cancer and a year later Jill had a gathering with all Carol’s friends to honor her. She was inspired to ask everyone to bring a pair of their favorite shoes to give away as Carol was well-known for her love of beautiful shoes. From that gathering The 10,000 Shoes Project was born. Shoes seemed like the perfect way to honor Carol, and in some small way, meet the needs of so many around the world. Jill then serendipitously found HART, a Calgary organization that collects and distributes shoes to the poorest women in the Ukraine. HART also funds many other endeavors that help people in the Ukraine (please go to www.HART.ca for more information).

This immediately touched me deeply. I’m Ukrainian, with both my Mom and Dad’s parents either born here or arriving from the Ukraine before age one.

I’d missed the blessing the first year after Mom and Dad died, so I really wanted to go this year - not because I believed they needed any blessings from the priest or me for their souls but because I wanted to honor my Mom and her respect to this tradition, as this was something she faithfully did for all family graves every year she was alive.

Anne (with HART) was with us and when she talked about her experiences of helping women in the Ukraine, I had a memory as a young child of watching my Mom work with other women from her church to do the bookkeeping and other tasks involved in caring for the church, hall and grounds. I remember feeling very proud of her because this was one of the only times (at that age) I saw my Mom interacting with other women in this way. There was a lovely camaraderie about what they were doing to help others that left a big impression on me.

But my weekend was very busy and although I knew I could twist myself into a pretzel to drive out to Iron River on Sunday and participate, it felt overwhelming to me, considering all the other things I also needed to get done.

At Jill’s, we all proceeded outside to a row of tables where we wiped, sorted and packed hundreds of pairs of shoes to ship to the Ukraine. It was simple work, but yet wonderfully rewarding.

That night Gabbey had her year-end dance recital in St. Albert. While there, Jill Burt (one of Gabbey’s friend’s mother) asked if I could help the next day to pack up shoes for their charity called: The 10,000 Shoe Project. I thought it was synchronistic that Jill should ask me, considering my spontaneous shoe cleaning blitz earlier that day.

Somewhere between wiping shoes and talking with my new soul/sole ☺ sisters there, I had this intensely emotional moment where I really felt I was honoring my Mom and her life so much more by being with this group of women on this day, to help other women in the Ukraine, than I would have by going to her grave.

We got home late and the next morning I woke up tired, with no energy for a long trip. Feeling a little guilty, I mentally sent a little message to my Mom to tell her that, although I wanted to honor her, I was going to help with this shoe charity instead that day.

I don’t know if I’m an old soul or not. In some ways I am old and wise, but in others ways, I’m just a young student. I wear different shoes in different situations.

I often clean and de-clutter when I’ve got something on my mind that I need to work out. I was trying to decide whether I should go to the blessing of the graves of my Mom, Dad and Gene the next day in Iron River (about 2½ hours away).

But one thing is for sure. It isn’t just the shoes we wear, but the tracks we leave that mark our lives.

I arrived at Jill’s farm with a bag of my shoes and, as all of the helpers shared a lovely pot luck lunch, Jill told us about how this shoe charity began.
