I Love Mosaic stories of people who planned their lives’ biggest challenges before birth. These books take ‘creating your own reality’ to an even deeper level, saying that we actually plan our lives out in great detail before we are born. We plan our parents, our families, our challenges and our goals/things we hope to accomplish. Even our most hurtful or difficult events are planned with the positive purpose/goal of helping us to learn certain things in our lives and ultimately to heal our souls. After I read his first book, I was very impressed by one of the psychic mediums featured, Staci Wells. When I read the second book, I knew I had to find out what I could about my ‘pre-birth planning’ so I decided to invest (it’s pricey) in a session with Staci.

www.L3photo.com

Following that other devastating session I had with a psychic a few years ago, I was wary and nervous about whether this was a good idea. So first I had to really ‘feel out’ if it was the right thing for me and then I booked my session with Staci. Staci told me that Robert went through hours and hours of sessions before he decided which parts would go into his books, and after our session, I could see why. We spoke for two hours and it barely touched the surface of what I wanted to know. by Connie Brisson I was in my early 20’s when someone first told me that “I created my own reality” by the thoughts I was thinking. It was a very foreign concept that I hadn’t heard of in any of the catechism or churches I went to.☺ Yet, as I contemplated it, I realized the truth of it. Indeed, it confirmed what I had already noticed many times - that my life often literally followed my daydreams or things I spent much time imagining or thinking about (whether positive or negative). As I got older I had this notion of ‘creating my reality’ in the back of my mind but I really didn’t understand how it worked. Because of that, I was even a little scared of the whole thing. When my life drastically changed after my daughter was born and my brother died in 2000, I began learning CranioSacral Therapy and other avant-garde ways of approaching life and inner healing. After Mosaic Magazine came into my life in 2004, I continued to learn even more about how I was the creator of my reality. So in 2008 when I first got an email from Robert Schwartz about his new book, Courageous Souls (later renamed: Your Soul’s Plan (Whispering Winds Press, 2007), I couldn’t wait to read it. I ended up loving that book so much that I featured him in an interview in Mosaic’s Winter 2008 issue. Now Robert has published his second book, Your Soul’s Gift (Whispering Winds Press, 2012), and I’ve got another interesting interview for you again in this issue. Both books explore the premise that we are all eternal souls who plan our lives, including our greatest challenges, before we’re born for the purpose of spiritual growth. Both books contain the true

Mosaic Magazine — Autumn 2012

During much of the session, Staci went through the karmic lessons that I was working on in this lifetime and how they connected with two of the main relationships I wanted to focus on. Then, at the very end, she told me about a significant past life in which at least three people in my current life were also in. That final part was the absolute icing on the cake! As she spoke, so many past events/moments in my life made crystal clear sense to me. She told me things that no one else would know, even using certain language/phrases that only meant something to me. It even explained a really crazy fear I had for a while (that I don’t think I’ve ever told anyone about)! For days afterwards, the ramifications of what she said vibrated through me (and through time and space) healing me. Immediately after, I noticed that something had shifted in my teenage daughter; it was like we were instantly emotionally closer and had a deeper level of peace with each other (although she didn’t know anything about the session, and she was not one of the two relationships I had focused on in the session). That again proved to me that we can affect others in the most wonderfully, subtle ways when we heal ourselves. I’m always humbly thankful when something amazing comes into my life that changes me at a core level and the information that Robert has in his books qualifies. For our next MOSAIC BOOK CLUB DINNER, let’s read Your Soul’s Gift. We’ll meet at Noorish, 8440 - 109 Street, Edmonton on SEPTEMBER 12 at 6:00 p.m. Please email me by September 11 if you can come. Hope to see you there!

Healing old wounds is possible with our problems head on or we think that our hurts or other problems will sort themselves out on their own.

How many of you think it’s easier not to deal with your issues? How many of you think it’s easier to sweep your problems under the rug or hide them in the closet with all the other skeletons?

Sometimes when it’s so dark out that we can’t see our way, what we really need is a guide, someone to help us who is not emotionally involved in our situation, and who has the skills to assist us to see our lives from a different perspective. The answers you need are inside of you. A good life coach helps you find the solutions that are right for you.

Believe me, I’m not judging… I’ve been there! What I’ve come to learn, however, is that while it might be difficult to deal with our problems head on, it’s easier than trying to live with them for the rest of our lives.

I recently worked with a client whose ‘scrape’ was resentment toward her ex-husband, the need to control everything when he had the children and the drama that came along with planning and organizing parental visits. It was important first that we talked about her part in the dynamic of the relationship and I gently helped her see how she was participating in the drama. She readily owned her part, enabling her to make some huge shifts in how she showed up in their c o - p a r e n t i n g relationship… and that changed everything.

Imagine that you slip and fall on a sidewalk, scraping your knee badly. You go home and put on one of those great big band-aids because you can’t imagine the pain that will come if you clean it with peroxide and warm water. Every day you wake up and the scrape is oozing; your knee is red and painful. You have a difficult time walking properly but you just can’t make yourself clean it… it would just hurt too much! Every day you change the band-aid and every day you’re in more pain, but dealing with it seems worse than just learning to live with it. The truth is this scrape is infected and it’s affecting your whole life including those around you. You’re ignoring the problem, hoping it will go away, but little do you know that this one little scrape is poisoning your entire body. If you continue to neglect it, it won’t be long before it turns into something very serious, even an illness. Does this sound at all like what you might be doing with some of your emotional hurts and challenges? Sure, it might be a bit of a stretch, but in the end… is it really? Do any of these ‘wounds’ trouble you? - Is someone walking all over you? - Do you have resentments that you carry around all day long? - Is there someone you feel envious or jealous of? - Is something or someone causing you heartache? - What beliefs, thoughts and feelings steal your happiness? - What re-occurring issues affect your daily life?

Which Enneagram personality are you? The Enneagram is a personality system that studies nine basic types of people, each with their own world view. The roots of this system date back 2,000 years ago to the Middle East. While it is a system with psychological and spiritual components that relies on self-reflection and self-observation, it fosters and encourages action. At the center of the Enneagram is the idea that we are born whole with our essential selves intact. As we grow and encounter challenges in our lives, we develop survival patterns to get what we want and protect ourselves. These patterns become our personality type. When we act from the lower side of a ‘type’ we tend to have more struggles, anxiety, anger, fear and difficulties in our relationships. The nine types of personalities are: 1) The Perfectionist, 2) The Helper, 3) The Performer, 4) The Romantic, 5) The Observer, 6) The Questioner, 7) The Adventurer, 8) The Protector and 9) The Peacemaker. Studying Enneagram Personality Theory provides insight into each type’s unconscious patterns of feeling, acting and thinking as well as each type’s gifts, struggles and blind spots. The theory offers practical suggestions and exercises which can be used to grow and transform our personal life, work life, and spiritual life. For example, Type One - The Perfectionist, can be conscientious, responsible and have high standards. They can also sometimes be critical, inflexible and self-judging. Their blind spots are the ‘gray zone’ between black and white (right and wrong) and their life is full of ‘shoulds’ (instead of doing what they really want to be doing).

a Registered Nurse for 25 years, I’ve also worked as a Massage Therapist and Reiki Practitioner. But my real love is the Enneagram. It’s my passion. I would never have left the comfort zone of nursing if it hadn’t been for what I learned from the Enneagram. It’s helped me to understand myself on a really deep level and to recognize some of my patterns that don’t serve me anymore. It’s opened me up to look at the world in a new way and try out new ways of behaving and being. I’m a Type Two - The Helper. For me, my most natural and comfortable position is to be behind other people, supporting them. The Enneagram clearly showed me this. It’s much harder for me to step forward and be the center of attention. So it’s been a big deal for me to go after what I want and need, instead of paying attention to what others want and need (typical ‘Type Two’ trait). Even writing this article and sharing my love for what the Enneagram has done in my life is a really big step for me. But here I am, doing it! Rising Star © Janice Blaine

A simple practice for a Type One is to learn to respect others’ ways of doing things that are different from their own. Being able to acknowledge that there are many different ways to look at things (instead of believing you have the only right way) will only improve the quality and outcome of all their relationships. I completed The Enneagram Professional Training Program with Helen Palmer and Dr. David Daniels and became a Certified Enneagram Facilitator in July 2010 in Menlo Park, California. Awaken your life If there was a word for what the world needs now the word would be ‘Awaken’. In martial arts, meditation, prayer and healing, awakening is the key experience. Awaken has profound gifts for us as individuals and for our culture of humanity. But from the idea to the experience can be a vast jump. How can we recognize the state of ‘Awaken’? How can we get there right now? Network Care uses breath and movement awareness to increase the frequency and sustainability of awakened consciousness for your health and for your life. We all know moments of awakening. There are simple examples in the space between thoughts. A practical example is: What are you experiencing in the space between inhaling and exhaling? When you toss a ball in the air, what goes on in your mind when the ball is in mid-air? Awaken isn’t about a thought or concept, it’s about the experience. The role of our mind is to protect us from pain and injury. Our mind protects us through the concept of a self or ego. The brain limits, separates, creates artificial boundaries and identity. It uses words to describe actions and thoughts. It creates the illusion of separate beings and things. In case you didn’t notice, while you were thinking, your experience of now passed you by. Awaken is best defined by the absence of something. The mind is no longer the controller. Thoughts are no longer experienced as real things. There is no need to defend or explain and no need to control the experience of others.

external conditions to promote safety or security. This allows you to be more aware of serendipity and manifestation. The second sign of Awaken is there is no longer a sense of a separate me or a separate you. You get a sense that thoughts and the body are not the ‘whole thing’. There’s also an appreciation that the body serves us by giving us our experience of now. You begin to feel that you’re not a physical being having a spiritual experience, rather you’re a spiritual being having a physical illusion. This is the place of guides and Angelic realms. When there is no sense of separateness, then acceptance, surrender and profound depths of healing are possible, and real. Evening Over Edmonton © Karen Bishop

by Dr. Robin Browne Doctor of Chiropractic

Awaken is a literal feeling of heart centeredness. In Awaken you realize you are a soul and the wounds you have lived through have cultivated your gifts for all humanity. In the fullness of Awaken you freely share your gifts and you fully receive the gifts of others. Gratitude, grace, faith, trust and oneness are experienced as a sea of resonance we all express from. The past and future become a continuum and what we give life becomes legacy. The relationships you’re in and the gifts you share reflect who you are. If you’d like to experience Awaken more often, if you’d like to know how it can help you heal or shape a vision for a fulfilling life, I invite you to experience Reorganizational Healing and Network Care. Robin offers Network Care at New Strategy Wellness Centre. It’s exciting how easy wellness can be. To get started today call 780 429-0023. Note: This information is for educational purposes only. It is intended to supplement your current health program, not to replace the care of a licensed medical doctor.

The first tell-tale sign of Awaken is emptiness. The next time you run into someone and have a chat, watch carefully the moment when you or the other person runs out of things to say. When you no longer have an agenda on what is said, you enter a moment of stillness, emptiness and timelessness. The moment you step out of the self, all that’s left is your authentic being. As you start experiencing moments of stillness you realize there’s no longer any need for

Women’s sexual health conference “To be truly healthy, every woman requires an awareness of the richness of her senses and of her sexual nature, the ways they shift across her cycle and her life pathways, the ways that they nourish her body and her soul.” (Dr. Tracey Gaudet, Consciously Female, Random House, 2004)

It always amazes me how much we, as women, do not know about our sexual or reproductive bodies. Here in Edmonton, the array of natural and holistic health care professionals who serve the reproductive and sexual health needs of our women’s community is truly inspiring! Yet the majority of women I meet are often unaware of the myriad of health choices available to us. So I have been very excited to work with several other amazing women to create an opportunity to change that. This October 13, our first Women’s Holistic Reproductive and Sexual Health Conference will be held at Grant MacEwan University. This conference is designed to connect you to proactive reproductive and sexual health practitioners, those who are passionate, committed and skilled in their respective fields. We want to engage you with the best in mind/body/spirit approaches to women’s wellness and empowerment. There are several important features to this conference that set it apart from the typical trade show within the health field. This is not a sales fair! It is first and foremost an education conference. We want to raise awareness of the wide range of high-quality holistic reproductive and sexual health options that are available to women in our community. Only practitioners and businesses that specialize within, and whose practices are of known effectiveness to the fields of reproductive or sexual health, will be invited to take part. There will be no multi-level marketing, no housewares and no pharmaceutical cosmetics.

Some of the practitioners/topics we have planned are: PMS, Poly-Cystic Ovarian Syndrome, Women’s Cycle Charting, Mayan Abdominal Massage, Midwives and Doulas, Sexual Pleasure & Empowerment, Pelvic Floor Rehabilitation, Naturopaths/Herbalists, Acupuncturists, Natural Contraception, Dance (Belly/Kundalini/Ecstatic), Breastfeeding Consultants, Nutritionists, Hypno-Birthing, Pre & Post Natal Yoga, Infertility, Menopause, Endometriosis, Tantra, Sexual Abuse/Trauma, Pregnancy Loss/Miscarriage, Baby Wearing, Lesbian Health, Pregnancy Massage and Breast Health. Who would get the most out of attending this conference? • Women who want to step into their own sacred femininity. • Women dealing with anything from irregular menses to extreme mood swings, debilitating cramps to potential infertility. • Women who were told that these health issues are ‘normal’, that nothing could be done, or that they should simply take the Pill. • Women who have body image or esteem issues; don’t know how to set comfortable relationship boundaries; are afraid to ask for what they really want sexually; or for whom sex is a painful or unpleasant chore. • Women who don’t know where to look for help or answers. • Women who want to experience true empowerment, demystify their bodies and find the resources to make the right health choices for themselves. • You! by Dinah Bear BSc., HHP

The conference is proudly brought to you and sponsored by: Bear Hands Holistic Care & Consultation, Sacred Diva Healing Centre and The Traveling Tickle Trunk. We will be raising funds to support The Sexual Assault Centre of Edmonton (www.sace.ab.ca) and Little Warriors (www.littlewarriors.ca). For more information check out www.WHRSHC.ca or call Dinah Bear at 780-668-2200.

The conference will have over 20 hours of programming for you to choose from, including: Interactive Group Workshops, Information Seminars, Documentary Screenings and Discussion Forums.

This situation is entangled with other people but must be separated to just your own emotions, desires and dreams. Taking time to do so will dissolve that which holds you in the old ways and energies that no longer support you. There is much work to do on Self as the past was spent on others. Find those who support you in your desires; this will trigger insights. Gratitude for soul trauma? everything happens for a reason then this includes our greatest trials and tribulations.

Our freedom is deeply imbedded in our relationship with gratitude.

When we embody the teachings of this gift, we feel gratitude. This means coming to a place of understanding of what we learned from these dark teachings, from our soul traumas. It means we have to actually go into these places within ourselves that hold our greatest pain, and often our greatest blame, trusting that we are the light needed to illuminate what binds us.

Gratitude is the sweet salve that soothes and transforms suffering into possibility and negative into positive. Feeling trapped, unhappy, morose or depressed feeds on our sense of lack, whereas feeling grateful for our breath, our food, our family, our lives, feeds our sense of abundance, opening us to a new way of living. This makes sense to most of us. ‘Please’ and ‘thank you’ are some of the first words we learned. It is not too far fetched to say ‘thank you’ for the meals you eat, the roof over your head, or the loved one that puts a smile on your face, noticing that the more you offer your thanks, the greater gifts life bestows. What happens though if we bring this sense of gratitude to what we don’t like, to what is NOT comfortable, to our regrets, our pain, our personal soul traumas - the ones that still feel raw when they surface: loss, deaths, divorce, violence, addictions, tragedy, abuse, rape… What about our darkest, most shameful experiences? The times when we have been at the receiving end of misused power? The times when we have been the ones misusing our power. What of those times? How do we feel gratitude for that? I have never said thank you for my mother being murdered. I am not grateful she is dead. However, I am grateful for all of the gifts that have shown up in my life since she passed. Courage, fearlessness, strength, faith, vulnerability… I know in my heart, I can survive anything and that fear does not rule me. Compassion, understanding and forgiveness transformed my life and are the greatest gifts I have received from her death. Practicing reconciliation and restorative justice through working on the reserve from where Peter’s family came from (the man who killed her) and meeting his sister, have opened me to a whole new way of seeing our world and what we collectively may do to heal. I am grateful that Creator has helped me to see the full picture and that perhaps my understanding of it, as I teach, write and help others, may foster a new way of resolving conflict. For this I am grateful!

This is a scary place to go into too. And this is where the choice lies. To be bound in fear and trauma, to feel someone else has power over us… or to reclaim our power and our voice.

I understand this place intimately and it’s one of the reasons I’ve created Soul Trauma Training - to help others through it. This program will help encourage, support and sustain those who are ready to reap the gifts and lessons of their greatest tragedies. Based on my personal experience in healing the trauma of homicide, teaching healing programs and assisting others in my private practice, it offers a whole new approach and focus. It is designed to guide each individual into the heart of their woundedness so they may move forward with confidence and power. Integrating diverse healing methods Those who seek a ‘healer’ seek wholeness, balance, relief, alignment, completion, a new start, personal growth and development, or the elimination of something seen as undesirable, threatening or uncomfortable. At the conscious level that person may not know what needs to change, or may be aware but not certain how to effect that change. The seeker trusts that the ‘healer’ will know. Healing is not treatment or management of signs and symptoms of the client’s physical, mental, emotional or spiritual body (created to alert the client that something needs to change). Healing addresses the cause of these. The ‘healer’ knows that all change comes from within the client and that his/her role is one of facilitation, starting and sustaining the process that will enable the client to realize (make real) the changes necessary. First, however, the healer must determine which approach will best serve the client. Each person is unique and extremely complex. What may work perfectly for one will not serve another or will do so only partially. In my experience, a ‘healer’ with a diverse complement of approaches and many years of experience is better able to assess the needs of the client and determine where to start to achieve the best outcomes. No one healer can know or practice even a fraction of the modalities and approaches available in these current times, but a select diversity enables a healer to recommend the best therapeutic approach for the individual. If unable to meet the needs of the client, a therapist wisely refers the client to another practitioner who can.

Life’s not perfect, or can it be? Life is perfect! Now, how does that sound to you? Can you relate to life being perfect? Is it a statement that you can say ‘yes’ to? Or is it a statement that causes you to groan, making you think: “Oh, here goes another one of those ‘feel good’ airy-fairy people who are affirming all is well in the world when that is not my reality.” But what if perfect wasn’t about everything in your life actually being flawless but about your ability to handle whatever comes your way with grace, ease and inner peace? With that in mind, how perfect is your life these days? Do you feel connected to a place of ease, joy, inner peace and alignment with your truth? Or are some aspects of your life missing, feeling out of balance, requiring an overhaul, or needing to be released out of your universe? When change comes knocking on your door it is easy to become unclear, even fearful, not knowing what the next step is. Sometimes we have an intuitive hit about upcoming change and sometimes change comes along unexpectedly, such as the loss of a job or the passing of a loved one. Whether we know about it in advance or whether it comes out of left field, it is common to move to a place of fear and insecurity about the outcome of any change. Connecting with a greater source of wisdom and guidance will assist us in moving forward to a new state of equilibrium, where we can see our path more clearly and move in the most appropriate direction. When we find the inner peace and strength to respond positively to the flow of life then we find the place of thriving in all we seek.

transformation. This can occur on all levels: physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. There are two new ways to connect with the realm of subtle energies that we can access and benefit from: 111™ Activation and the Universal Sphere™. The 111 Activation allows you to tap into your inner resources of truth and authenticity, allowing you to move forward with greater clarity and confidence. This clarity and confidence can allow changes to happen with greater ease and less resistance. The Universal Sphere brings you into an enhanced level of heart connection and coherence with your essence, which allows you to live more from your heart than your head. Those who have experienced private sessions of these new forms of connection have reported deep peace, inner calmness, physical healing, increased intuition and freedom from old patterns. The 111™ Activation and the Universal Sphere™ are two energetic experiences that allow you to consciously and tangibly live in greater connection with your truth, allowing you to manifest the life of your desires. Both types of sessions can be done in person or at a distance.

Orion Network for Evolution will be offering its first international seminar in Edmonton, AB on October 19 - 21, 2012. Natural Healing “I think I’m sensitive to other people’s energy because it’s very difficult for me to be around people who are negative, angry, complaining, etc., without feeling it in myself (my stomach tenses up) and afterwards I feel so depleted. What can I do to help myself in these situations?” RL, Edmonton

by Laurie Szott-Rogers Certified Aromatherapist & Flower Essence Practitioner Learning to keep one’s boundaries intact, when other people and situations bombard you, is vital. Both flower essences and aromatherapy offer tools to safeguard one’s essential essence. Two Californian essences (from the Flower Essence Society) come to mind as protectors. Flower essences are vibrational energies that have no scent and are taken under the tongue. Yarrow is useful as a preventative, when you are extremely vulnerable to others and to the environment. If you are easily depleted and absorb negative influences, this essence is ideal. Mountain Pennyroyal offers benefit when you have already been negatively influenced by another’s energy, to help shake off the residue. Our website: selfhealdistributing.com, flower essences, will tell you more. You mention stomach aches appear as a body symptom when you are disrupted by outbursts. Dilute the essential oil of Roman chamomile oil in a carrier, such as grapeseed, and rub onto your belly in a clockwise fashion. Roman chamomile is emotionally and physically soothing and calming, in cases of stomach upset. It can help bring you back to your center and consolidate your authentic self. This is a Root and Throat Chakra imbalance. Your root energy is low, lacking in vitality and luster. Furthermore I feel that your throat chakra is related to self-esteem as well as a lack of honoring your own needs and desires.

Absorbing the energy from people/ situations is a common problem that many people can relate to. Even people who don’t usually feel energy can tell when they walk into a particularly tense room.

When you begin to feel this way take several deep breaths and focus only on yourself; really feel your body. Connect to your own emotions and sensations. Begin to connect to your root chakra. See it as a beautiful, passionate shade of red, full of life, strength and a majestic sparkle. Use this life giving energy to envelop your whole being in a protective cocoon, thus creating personal space and a strong sense of your own boundaries. Utilize this daily in the mornings to create a good boundary before your day starts, and call upon it throughout the day to reenforce your desire for change and healing. To strengthen your throat chakra, I suggest blue colour breathing before entering situations where this might come up for you. Blue energy is fabulous to help with self-expression and self-preservation. It will allow you to come from an inner place of strength and integrity, allowing your needs to be met first. When you are sensitive to the energy around you, it is good to be grounded and protected. I would recommend black onyx, petrified wood and smoky quartz. These stones protect the owner and deflect negative energy away from your personal aura. If you are the type of person with a need to help those around you, you naturally gravitate to people needing healing (or they naturally gravitate to you). You will need to find a way to help them without giving up your personal space or absorbing their energy. Carrying stones like citrine, clear quartz, amethyst and rose quartz will help energize and clear both yourself and the people you encounter. Let the stones do the job you usually let your energy do. Also use a Himalayan salt lamp, quartz cluster or sage smudge to clear the stones each evening. In uncomfortable situations, focus on letting your energy continue to flow through your body. Allow it to dissipate into the earth or air, rather than build up within you. Self-discovery through chakra balancing by Jackie Pearce Wholistic Practitioner Chakras are energy centers in our body responsible for keeping our body’s energy flowing, circulating and replenished. They are the portal between our physical selves and our essence. Within our chakras we store information, feelings, ideas and our persona. Our chakras are a blueprint to our very being. Through connecting with your energetic system you can release thought patterns, emotions, past lives and energy that is simply no longer serving you. While release is important, it is not all that is required. Through chakra balancing you can also receive messages from your higher self and your guides, connect to information that is not accessible in our waking state and learn to connect to all elements of yourself simultaneously. As a facilitator of chakra balancing, my role is to guide you on your journey, wherever that may be. Some sessions are focused on inner chakra relations, allowing all aspects of your being to be in perfect harmony. Other sessions may be focused on one specific chakra, tuning in to its individual needs and desires, supporting all aspects of you from one central point. As an active participant in your sessions you are always in control. There is much to be said for personal privacy and integrity. As a facilitator, my role is to make accurate observations, not judgements. Only information (that all aspects of your being are comfortable sharing) is tapped into. It isn’t even necessary for you to share your intentions in order for balancing and transformation to take place, only a desire for change and a willingness to co-create that.

Chakra balancing resides in a realm where duality is not a factor. This means that you may experience manifestations that on the surface feel like they emerge from your root chakra, but when you take away your attachment to duality, it will become clear where an issue truly lies. For example, it can be quite liberating to learn that your inability to communicate your needs and inner feelings to others has nothing to do with your throat chakra, but stems from your root chakra. Once this realization has been experienced, the true source of this imbalance can be addressed and the healing can begin! Many tools are utilized in chakra balancing. Often crystals and gemstones are placed (with intention) on the body as well as around the body to support the session. Singing bowls, tuning forks and the human voice are regularly employed as well, to release stagnant energy and to create positive energetic flow in the body. Many hands on and hands off techniques are also practiced to assist with creating energetic balance and harmony. Breath work and visualization are also quite empowering. Chakras are unique, always changing, evolving and responding to you. As a very dynamic part of you they need to be treated as divine, loving and light-filled. Your sessions will always be facilitated in a positive way, providing insight, support and practical suggestions to aid you in creating change in your life. Jackie specializes in Chakra Balancing, is a Certified Colour Sound Therapist and practices Reiki, Perinatal Massage and Hot Stone Massage/Facials with Hot Stones at Golden Lady Wholistics. Each of us is unique, here to walk our own path and create our own destiny. Because of this, all sessions are distinctive and facilitated in the present. Two clients may choose to work on the same scenario - perhaps it is to release feelings of inadequacy. However, how these sessions unfold will be different. For example one may center on self worth and the other may originate from an experience in childhood. As these are very different root causes of a similar manifestation, they must be supported in completely different ways. ILoveMosaicMagazine.com

Self-care is easy with ‘Eternale’ by Norma Hope Eternale Practitioner Nurturing yourself daily is an essential, necessary thing for your soul, your spirit, your body, your mind and especially your cells. It is the absolute best nourishment you can give yourself. It was very difficult for me to learn to nurture myself as it was not taught in our family dynamic at all. Only toughness was allowed (‘go hard or go home’ = work, work, work).

And the best part (for my own self-care) is it’s ‘hands off’ once the program starts running. Nurturing myself could not be any simpler or easier now. I’m putting ‘Me’ back on my schedule once again. After doing two sessions a week for four weeks, I lost 10 pounds and I wasn’t even focusing on weight issues. Nice surprise! The Eternale allows you to take a break from the pressures and stresses of your everyday work, relationships or other demanding events that cause tension and are held in your body. It feels like a mini vacation.

A Mid Summer Night © Ausilia Corso — www.ausiliacorso.ca

I’ve spent the last 15 years letting go and allowing my own transformation to occur, slowly becoming the person I was truly meant to be. One of the biggest challenges has been selfcare; to allow and accept that I deserved nurturing and that I was worthy of that love, affection and attention. And I know I’m not alone; this wasn’t shown to a lot of us as children. Recently I realized I was sliding off track again with taking care of myself. Life was starting to consume me, not nourish me. I had once again put my life on hold and was working too many hours and not making healthy food choices as a result. I found that after working with clients all day doing Biofeedback, Colon Hydrotherapy, Lymphatic Drainage and other therapies, that I wasn’t up for doing them on myself like I usually was. I just wanted to relax, not work on me. In May 2012, I realized I needed a change, something to jumpstart me back on track. My right hip was aching. I felt tired, kind of foggy headed, my skin wasn’t glowing like it normally does, I was low on energy and I found myself actually eating a bag of chips (!!!) to help stay awake as I drove to a colleague’s in Calgary. It was there I experienced The Eternale Rejuvenation System for the first time. It profoundly connected me again to my core, my spirit, my body. I even felt my cells smiling inside and out, so of course it is now available at my clinic!

Mosaic Magazine — Autumn 2012

The Eternale works on three different levels combined into one profound treatment session in one hour. Level 1: Carefully orchestrated musical compositions including the lost Solfeggio Tones, which deeply support meditation and relaxation. Level 2: Guided visualizations and audio relaxation exercises help elicit innate thoughts of positive self-esteem, body image, stress relief, weight management, anti-aging and much more. Level 3: Subtle (almost imperceptible) micro-current vibrations deeply relax the client, relieving muscle tension, unhealthy patterns of holding throughout the face and body and it reconnects you to you at a cellular level. It is profound how sound heals. I am also a Certified Neuro and VibroAcoustic Sound Therapist, so I already knew the depths to which those brainwave state tones of Delta, Theta and Alpha can move you to. The first sense we ILoveMosaicMagazine.com

develop is sound - we hear the beating of our Mom’s heart in the womb. Sound reconnects you to your core self. The cells of our bodies ‘sing’ to each other, a form of intracellular communication and do it most effectively in the range 100 to 1000 Hertz (from the work of James Gimzewski of UCLA, California, www.vibroacoustic.com). The nine Solfeggio Tone Frequencies in music in the Eternale are: • 174 Hz - Acceptance and grounding of manifestation into being. • 285 Hz - Releasing shame and doubt. • 396 UT - Liberating guilt and fear. • 417 RE - Creating change and releasing patterns. • 528 MI - Miracles, transformation, anti-aging, DNA repair. • 639 FA - Relationships and connections. • 741 SOL - Awakening intuition. • 852 LA - Transmutation: returning to spiritual order. • 963 Hz - Unity with spiritual order. The guided visualizations help to stop the mind chatter and be in our body once again, effortlessly. There are many different visualizations available during a session. Choice is important as each one of us is so different. “Breathing in pure positivity and as you fully exhale, allowing oneself to release all stress” is one that is a theme throughout all programs. The micro-current therapy programs below happen in conjunction with the specialized music and guided visualizations. You choose which restorative combination of programs you want to focus on to promote optimal relaxation and rejuvenation. And you can choose several in a one hour session (or just music or visualizations).

EternaSphere - Focuses on stimulating and improving circulation plus the eliminating of cellulite and improving self-image and confidence. EternaLift - This all natural ‘face-lift’ enhances facial appearance and combats the effects of gravity. The EternaLift program creates a dramatic improvement in facial lines and wrinkles, as well as a gradual tightening of the loose skin around the face, neck and chin area. I really like this one as my wrinkles on my neck and face are reduced significantly and my skin is glowing again. EternaFit - Offers all of the support, inspiration and motivation of your own personal trainer. The session itself happens while you lie comfortably on a massage table, fully clothed, with ankle and wrist bands and a headband (just like biofeedback). It is through these bands that the micro-currents travel thoughout the body for the 10 different rejuvenation choices. You have headphones on for the musical tones and an eye mask for comfort. You are in your own treatment room alone after I set the program choices to run. This incredible system was developed in 2009 by Nadine Cutright and the bio-acoustic designer was Gage Tarrant. They are incredibly smart, innovative women. Thank you both for this extraordinary gift. EternaVitale - Replenishes your optimal energy levels and work to rebalance the seven major energy centers of the body, allowing you to function with optimal ease, joy and efficiency. EternaYouth - Brings you all the powerful healthy antiaging benefits of micro-current technologies, helping you look and feel years younger. EternaSerene - The ultimate deep relaxation program for easing away tension, stress and pain; also excellent for improving sleep habits and enhancing meditation. EternaEnviro - Offers the mind and body an oasis of relief from daily environmental stress, toxins, EMF, noise, pollution and more. EternaGlow - Designed to help allow your inner beauty to truly shine forth, enhancing the healthy radiance and glow of the skin, restoring clarity and sparkle in the eyes. EternaShape - Maintaining a body weight that is comfortable, attractive and healthy can be an easy process of self-nurturing; facilitates positive changes in attitudes toward food and other cravings. EternaLux - Lustrous, shiny hair is a telltale indication for of health (known to diminish the appearance of unwanted greys). ILoveMosaicMagazine.com

Heal Your Body “I often get extremely tired after I eat and just want to go to sleep. What can I do to help my digestion process so I don’t feel this way?” MV, Fort McMurray

by Lauren Slade Online Health & Reflexology Expert Reflexology is a holistic therapy which involves looking at all aspects of the client’s presenting symptoms including lifestyle and eating patterns. Digestive disorders can be due to many causes such as eating under emotional stresses, tension and anxiety as well as eating too fast. Poor diet is often the cause of toxic congestion which can result in the body lacking in vitality causing constant tiredness. A professional Reflexologist will want to focus on working the entire digestive system reflexes from mouth to anus, paying particular attention to the pancreas and liver reflexes. The secretions of the digestive tract depends on the hormones that are produced locally within each of these organs.

by Kristin Fraser Registered Holistic Nutritionist Fatigue can be related to a variety of causes. From a nutritional standpoint, avoiding wheat and sugar is a great start, as well as taking probiotics. Typically fatigue can be related to pre-diabetic conditions, (insulin resistance - so avoiding sugar will help), celiac (gluten intolerance - so avoiding wheat is best), digestive problems (taking probiotics helps to build the intestinal flora to improve digestion). The other thing to consider is food allergies. I would advise seeing a naturopath to get tested for food intolerances. Be sure to increase your water consumption (3-4 liters per day) and get at least a 15 minute sweat in five days per week.

The pancreas secretes pancreatic juice which contains enzymes for the digestion of carbohydrates, fats and proteins and alkalinizing bicarbonate, which together aid digestion. The liver has more than 600 functions, including storing glucose as glycogen and converting glycogen to glucose as needed between meals to maintain blood glucose levels. Glucose is the main source of energy for the cells of our body. Fluctuating levels of glucose can cause tiredness. Reflexology brings balance and harmony to the body. My years of experience have taught me that having regular reflexology sessions has the ability to work wonders for any digestive ailments. Adding some fresh vegetable juices into your diet, particularly the green ones (cucumber, celery and kale) along with some apple, will alkalize your system and increase your energy. Alkalizing the system has been shown to increase energy and fight off fatigue. Perhaps even a short three day juice fast. Another thing I always recommend to clients who struggle with fatigue (from a holistic standpoint) is to look at the stressors in their life. Not always is it the food that fatigues us. If you have salt cravings, there could be a link to some adrenal fatigue. Taking a saliva cortisol test by a qualified health practitioner can help to diagnose this. There are 188 potential homeopathic remedies for this symptom, so I would need more information to prescribe on. But whole health comes from so much more than just remedies, so let’s talk about your lifestyle…

Candida overgrowth can also cause these symptoms especially if you eat the foods described above. And don’t underestimate the value of a quality night’s sleep!

If you are eating a lot of whole grains and other forms of carbohydrates, and you happen to be a blood type O or B, this could be the issue.

Of course turkey is notorious for causing this symptom because of the tryptophan in it, so a homeopathically prepared dropper of Tryptophan may help you with this symptom, while you address the cause of it.

If you have pre-diabetes (and many do but just don’t know it!) or uncontrolled type 2 diabetes, the food you are eating isn’t making it to your brain, organs and muscles so your

‘Why’ is always the important part When my new client, who I’ll call Mary, came in to my weight loss clinic and said she wanted to lose weight and feel good again, I asked her what was one behavior she wanted to change that contributed to her weight gain. “Snacking at night when I am not even hungry,” she said without hesitation. Curiously, I asked her: “How does this affect you and other areas of your life?” After considering the question, she said: “When I let myself snack, I get upset with myself; then I feel sorry for myself. I can’t stand to look in the mirror and don’t want my husband to see me naked,” she said as tears started streaming down her cheeks. Handing her a tissue, I asked: “What will happen if you continue snacking?” “I’ll keep gaining weight and feeling like crap,” she answered. Once Mary identified how being overweight was affecting her and looked at the consequences of continuing to gain weight, she was ready for me to help her identify a reason compelling enough to make her want to change her behavior.

“Yes,” I said, “but what else? What does weighing 150 pounds, having more energy, feeling more confident and being healthier, give you that is even more important?” Her lips quivered as she sat back and took in a deep breath. When she exhaled she said: “Peace.” As soon as she identified how her desired outcome to be thinner would provide her with more peace, her conviction to change her behavior was ignited. The feeling she experienced when she said the word ‘peace’ is what would propel her toward her goal. Windows © Denise Lefebvre — www.deniselefebvre.com

by Zaheen Nanji Life Coach

By helping Mary to peel back the layers in her thought process, identify her core value and align with that, she was empowered to make some real changes. I invited her to commit to stating her goal every day as follows: “I am in the process of being at 150 pounds because I feel more confident and healthier and being there gives me a sense of peace.”

Now take this statement and compare it to her previous statement of: “I want to weigh 150 pounds and feel good about myself.” Which one sounds more compelling? The answer is obvious isn’t it?

This compelling reason is rooted in our values and our values motivate us to make choices that support the achievement of our goals.

If Mary hadn’t determined why it was so valuable for her to lose weight and connected her goal with her core value of achieving peace, it would have been very difficult for her to achieve her goals and maintain them.

To guide Mary to find her compelling ‘why’, I asked: “What do you want instead?” She said: “I want to be at a healthy weight and stop snacking at night.”

“What does healthy weight mean to you?” I asked. “It means being back down to 150 pounds because I felt great at that weight and was comfortable there,” she said.

Note: This information is for educational purposes only. It is intended to supplement your current health program, not to replace the care of a licensed medical doctor.

I asked her how she would get down to 150 pounds and she said she needed to eat nutritious foods, stop snacking, start walking and be held accountable by a coach. All great answers, but I knew that she still lacked motivation. For her to become self-motivated, I had to help her link her goal to lose weight with her core value. “What is so important about eating nutritious foods, stopping snacking, walking and working with a coach?” I asked. “I’ll lose weight, have more energy, feel good about myself and be healthier than I am now,” she said.

Does Heilkunst Homeopathy work? by Tammie Quick DMH, DHHP Happy Anniversary (and a big ‘Welcome’ to our new southern Alberta readers)! This issue of Mosaic Magazine marks three years since my first article explaining the Heilkunst system of medicine. And what a wonderful three years it has been! I have been honored to walk the journey back to health with so many people, seeking help with a variety of health concerns. My oldest patient is nearly 80 and my youngest hasn’t been born yet! Isn’t it comforting to know that there is a system of medicine that has no side effects, is nontoxic, doesn’t interfere with medications, is safe during pregnancy and nursing, works for all age groups, AND actually works?

before the pneumonia symptoms had started. I asked him how the diagnosis affected him and he insisted that it didn’t. He said: “My wife was a wreck, but I was hardly bothered at all.” So I asked him to pretend that it did bother him and to tell me what the emotions were. I gave him a set of remedies for ‘sadness, anger and fear’. He called the next day to tell me that he woke up in the middle of the night with a horrible headache, got up, vomited and then began to breathe normally. 40 SOMETHING FEMALE: ‘Jane’ came to see me because of depression, chronic sinus infections and heavy, painful periods. After losing several loved ones in a row and suffering a marital crisis, she went to see her family doctor looking for help with her sadness and her growing waistline. He offered anti-depressants and the famous “Eat less and move more” solution. Convinced that there must be a better way, Jane came to see me. I

Some of you may recall (from that first article) that Heilkunst “will take you on a journey back through time, in order to reclaim your health.” By learning the ‘before’ part of your symptoms, I am able to create a solution using carefully selected homeopathic remedies applied in perfect order and dose. Additionally I make recommendations for healthy lifestyle choices that take into account my patients’ blood and glandular type. And don’t forget the stuff we inherit from our ancestors! We cover lots of ground in order to gain full healing. So, because it is my anniversary with you, I thought it would be fun to share some memorable Heilkunst success stories of the past three years… PNEUMONIA: ‘Barry’ had been suffering with pneumonia for some weeks when he asked for my help. Actually he yelled: “Fix me! I can’t breathe!” He had seen an M.D., and took antibiotics for two days but decided that he didn’t want to suppress whatever it was that his body was trying to heal. While admirable, he did take a risk and I told him that if he wasn’t breathing normally in another day that he should go back on the medication. As I took the case I found out that Barry’s son had been diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes about three weeks

began with her constitutional remedy to strengthen her in mind, body and spirit, and at the same time, I treated her for the deaths and the sadness that was triggered by them. We also discussed healthy eating for her blood and glandular type. When she returned for her first follow up, the depression was gone and she felt great. At Jane’s six month check-in she said: “Heilkunst has cured every problem that my M.D. hasn’t been able to fix in 35+ years!” COCAINE ADDICTION: Not long ago a young man in his 20’s came to me for help with his cocaine addiction. I confess that I was sceptical and not convinced that Heilkunst homeopathy was going to be his solution. But he was very motivated and insisted he couldn’t afford rehab. So, in addition to putting him on whole food supplements, and essential fats to feed his brain, I treated him for the cocaine as well as the genetically inherited disease states that would set one up for such an addiction. I provided him with his constitutional dropper as well as a dropper to handle the withdrawal symptoms. It has been four months since then and he says that he never even thinks about cocaine! ASTHMA: ‘Mary’ came to me at her BFF’s request. It seemed that Mary’s asthma was so bad that it had become nearly impossible to have a conversation because of the constant, hacking cough. In fact she confessed to me that she had earned the nickname ‘Coughing Woman’ at work! While Mary was a lovely woman with a lively personality, I soon learned that she used humor to hide her deep sense of shame. In fact she was so good at hiding it that I didn’t really pick up on it until her second appointment. It was then that she shared with me that she had grown up in a very Catholic family and that she had learned early on that she was ‘a sinner’. Indeed at church, the congregation would answer: “I am so not worthy.” Besides providing Mary with a dropper for her coughing and asthma symptoms, I needed to quickly annihilate the Lachesis disease state in her. Lachesis is made from one of the meanest snakes on the planet, and it is a homeopathic medicine par excellence for a shame/guilt disease state. Three days later Mary called to tell me that her cough was gone and no one at work could believe the miracle… all without drugs.

are better, I don’t hear from them again OR they only come back when they are in a new crisis. But the majority of my patients recognise that disease happens from the accumulation of ‘negative impressions’ that have been left behind by the various shocks and traumas experienced since birth. Shocks and traumas can be from accidents, sudden death of a loved one, divorce, a move, surgeries, recreational drugs, prescription drugs, a fall into a cold lake, etc. Chipping away at these, keeps people from getting sick… REGULAR PATIENT: One of my most noteworthy Heilkunst moments was shared with ‘Riana’. I had given her a ‘trauma’ treatment for an excessive amount of Cannabis use. Typically patients don’t notice much when they first take one of these remedies but at the two week mark, nearly anything can happen! In Riana’s case I got an emergency phone call because she had frost bitten her ears while running errands that morning. This was surprising because it really wasn’t that cold out. But suddenly I had a thought and asked her: “By any chance, when you were using pot were you also using magic mushrooms?” Riana remembered that she had and asked me how I knew: “Are you clairvoyant or something?” The most wonderful thing about Heilkunst is that we get to follow the wisdom of your life force. It never steers us wrong, and if something is forgotten, it will provide us with clues until we ‘get’ it. In Riana’s case, the homeopathic medicine for treating frostbite is Agaricus… the remedy closest to Magic Mushrooms! Riana’s life force didn’t want the shock of the mushrooms to go untreated so it found a way to draw our attention to it. Samuel Hahnemann knew how to cure disease in the 18th century using homeopathic principles. In the 21st century the resurrection of Heilkunst has provided mankind with a true system of medicine, and your ‘time machine back to health’. RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS: ‘Mikhail’ had been crippled for five years when he came for his first appointment. His mother had already taken him to two other Heilkunst physicians! Turned out that no one had been treating her (and often kids will take on disease states from one or both of their parents). For Mikhail that meant treating him for a Post-Partum Depression that his mom suffered with just prior to his illness. If I hadn’t insisted on treating mom, I never would’ve known to treat Mikhail for it. Five months later Mikhail was skiing with his class at school! There are some patients who come to the Quick Health Clinic because they are in a health crisis and once they ILoveMosaicMagazine.com

Your unlimited potential by Adam DreamHealer McLeod) Are you ready to experience selfempowerment? Just what does that mean? It means that every second of every day you have the power to change your life. Whether you decide to take action or not is your decision. You’re in charge as you are in the driver’s seat of your life journey. You may drive about aimlessly or you may have a direction or destination in mind. Make no mistake about it - you are traveling whether you choose to be mindful or not. In this same way, you are constantly influencing your own health, whether you are aware of it or not. You are influencing your own health by embracing your own intentions, both consciously and subconsciously. Focusing your intentions (to make them as effective as possible) is a learned skill. Bringing them into your conscious awareness in the form of visualizations allows you to be the director of your personal favorite movie: ‘Your Life’. You are in charge; understand your unlimited potential in this script!

Visualization is a goal-oriented tool to help you specifically focus your attention while you take control of your intentions. Visualizations bring your intentions to life by getting all of your cells working toward achieving this reality. You can create your new healthy reality now. True healing requires that you synchronize your conscious and subconscious thought patterns. Visualizations (as guided imagery) provide conscious focus and when fueled by emotions, they are very powerful as they align with your subconscious thoughts. Have the greatest respect for your own ability to heal yourself. Healing is an innate ability, which can be enhanced by various teachable techniques and practices. Using energy to amplify your healing capacity can be used in conjunction with any medical treatment. Your intentions are powerful tools to help optimize the healing process. Intentions (as focused thoughts) are the key to unlocking your unlimited human potential. The next step is to let go of your conscious thought patterns and go with the flow. This is easy to do in the workshop setting where hundreds of people are joined in healing energy. Have confidence in knowing that you know your own body. Your own intelligent energy is your primary healer. In other words, you are your own healer.

Now that you have created a visualization routine for your own wellness, let go of the cerebral conscious thought patterns and go with wherever the energy takes you. Be mindful of your journey, but step back from directing it. At DreamHealer workshops you will learn how to focus your intentions prior to experiencing two unique group energy healing sessions. The experience of the group energy treatments is transformational. Your innate ability for healing your physical, emotional and spiritual self is activated as an ‘attunement’ or ‘healing’. At the workshop, your intentions do not have to be limited to health issues; they can be used to improve every aspect of your life. There is a strong emphasis at the workshop about the science behind healing which will help you to accept and embrace your own healing power as you actively participate in the healing process. The energy in the room during these group treatments is palpable often creating an energy shift that jump-starts healing. These group healings are incredibly effective because the positive healing energy from the entire group creates the perfect environment for healing. As I am First Nations, I have been a healer in cultural healing events where health is understood in terms of energy. You will feel this connection at the workshop during the healing sessions. You can direct the function of your immune system with intentions. It is very comforting to know that you are in control of your own healing. The potential from this innate healing tool that we all possess is truly unlimited. You are responsible for the wellbeing of every cell in your body, just as a parent is responsible for its offspring. Think in terms of parenting your cells, as you provide only what is best for them. Feed your cells the best possible ingredients for optimal physical, emotional and spiritual health. Encourage yourself with positive thoughts, just as you would inspire your child. There is no such thing as an idle or neutral thought. You will leave the workshop with the necessary tools to continue your healing afterwards as many techniques can easily be integrated into your daily life. You are 100% in control of your perception of your environment. The future of medicine is integrative medicine where alternative and conventional treatments are used together. At the centre of this future model are the patients active participation in their own healing process. In the near future all doctors will encourage their patients to harness their innate healing abilities using their own focused intentions. Become self-empowered as you learn to trust yourself to make the difference in your own health. We are truly awesome beings with limitless potential! Skye’s View

Learning from your yearly tarot card Tarot is a fascinating and magical mirror that reveals hidden aspects of who we are and how we relate to the world in which we live. Each year on our birthday, we align with a new tarot archetype (from the Major Arcana) and are invited to explore the lessons and gifts that this archetype offers. This card represents the opportunities, gifts, tests and lessons that we will encounter and perhaps integrate during the year. Knowing it gives you a context for understanding and benefiting from the lessons. Your yearly tarot card changes on your birthday. Here’s the formula to determine your current year card. Add the month and day of your birthday with your current birthday year (if you haven’t had your birthday yet this calendar year, then that year will be 2011; if you have had your birthday this calendar year, the year will be 2012). Then reduce the number to 21 or less. For yearly tarot cards, we replace the year of your birth with the year of your last birthday. For example, if your birthday is May 27, 1965, then add 5 (month of birth) + 27 (day of birth) + 2012 (year of most recent birthday) = 2044; 2+0+4+4= 10 = the ‘Wheel of Fortune’ year. If your birthday is December 5, 1953, add 12 (month of birth) + 5 (day of birth) + 2011 (year of most recent birthday) = 1970; 1+9+7+0 = 17 = the ‘Star’ year. Enjoy exploring where you are in your personal growth through the key words that represent your yearly card.

Esoteric Explorations

The evolving magic machine by Catherine Potter Astrologer and Hypnotherapist I remember when I was a little girl watching TV. If I would get too close, my mother would remind me to back up because it wasn’t good for my eyes. I was fascinated by the giant, magical box that spoke to me. Well before school age I had memorized all the commercials and would say them before the announcers could, which as you can imagine, was way more fun for me than the other people watching.

with a magic talking box would be passed along to them. While in Grades 3 and 4, their school had a computer camp (where for one week the children were given the opportunity to play with computers) and their love affair with machines began. If I had let them, they would have sat in front of their old ‘Commodore 64’ all day and night. However my childhood experiences had unconsciously groomed me to understand the gifts and challenges of magic boxes and, much to their displeasure, I would balance computer time with other activities. We have come an amazingly long way with telecommunication devices since I was a child. I have watched a mutation occur within humans as their love affair with technology has grown. I will be very surprised if this doesn’t show up at some point in our DNA as dynamic rewiring in the nervous system, capacity for rapid learning and imbalances within our digestive system.

Being a ‘good mom’, when my sons were young I would also have them sit back from the TV while watching it. Little did I know that within a few years my fascination

The gifts of our advances are pretty apparent with the evolution occurring in methods of education, medicine, communication and science.

It didn’t take long for my mother to curtail what I would watch on TV because my nervous system and active mind would spew everything back that was too scary for me in the form of nightmares. So I got the reputation as ‘the sensitive one’ and there was no more Twilight Zone for me.

The challenges show up within our body as an inability to metabolize, digest, assimilate and eliminate. We are being reminded by our body-mind that too much of anything, even if it is good for us, is still too much. Often when working with clients and students I first help them to relax into their bodies in order to have them connect with what has been going on for them emotionally and physically. Gently I remind them (and myself) that the mind goes faster than what the body can assimilate and digest. I encourage them to take time everyday to have some empty space - to shut off the phones, computers, TV’s, conversations and go for a walk, swim or whatever physical movement appeals to them. For those who don’t enjoy meditation, in order to soothe the nervous system and quiet the mind, I encourage them to spend three minutes on a short breathing technique upon awakening and before bed. For the group of people currently in their teens and 20’s, the above ideas can be a challenge because they were born in the middle of our love affair with telecommunication devices and have no idea what life was like pre-computer. It is very apparent when interacting with this amazing generation that humans and machines have bonded. Our fascination with our magic machines has evolved and is here to stay. However until we are able to program common sense into machines, and have them monitor when the human part of the pairing needs to shut down, humans have to pay attention and know when it is time to turn the ‘off’ button. The reality is that even your machines burn out when running 24 hours a day; they are just easier and less physically and emotionally taxing to replace. Rehab and Retreat helps caregivers I was in grade 10 when my grandmother moved in with us. At 82-years-old, Grandma’s small pension and myriad of medical issues made living independently impossible. My mother moved a bed and toilet commode into our living room and Grandma lived with us for months until her health spiraled and she transitioned to palliative care. I didn’t know it at the time, but my mother and grandmother were teaching me some important lessons about sickness, about the love, attention and dignity our elders deserve, and that caregivers need community support and empathy to continue their giving of care. Fourteen years later I met Keltie Brisson while we both worked together in a long-term care facility. Keltie (a Recreation Therapist) and I (an Occupational Therapist) quickly came to realize we shared a common belief - that people, no matter their age, culture, or physical/mental health, deserve the opportunity to live a meaningful life. The caregivers of these people, who often feel the mental and physical toil of their role, also deserve the choice to access support and respite. Keltie had also been inspired by a family member to work with individuals who have physical and cognitive disabilities. Twenty years earlier, one of Keltie’s cousins was born with Cerebral Palsy and has since required 24-hour care. His parents require support to look after him and luckily have an adult day support program that he attends twice a week. This prevents any of the family members of burnout - a common issue affecting caregivers. Seeing the need for a unique therapy program that helps both the caregivers and the people they care for, we created ‘Rehab and Retreat Day Support Program’ in February 2012. A first-of-its-kind service to Alberta, Rehab and Retreat is a therapy day program that helps adults and seniors (with mental and physical issues) participate in the community to the best of their ability.

clients depending on their interests), including pet therapy, music, gardening, memory games, cooking, community outings, fall prevention exercises and visits from specialists (registered massage therapists, certified shoe fitters, etc.) One client we have on a regular basis (in his 80’s and experiencing mid-stage dementia) has been attending the program for several months. His family said if it weren’t for our program, this client would typically spend his days sleeping and have little or no social interaction in his daily environment. Rehab and Retreat gives him the one-onone attention he needs to be stimulated in all areas of his life: emotional, physical and spiritual. The outcome of his program participation is evident in his increased interest in life (noticed by both staff and family members), including purposeful activities such as playing the piano and gardening again. Clients can attend the program on a very flexible basis, ranging from one to six hours a day. The cost is a very reasonable $20 an hour and includes all meals, snacks and program supplies.

We all need to be supported at times in life. Rehab and Retreat gives caregivers an opportunity to take a break. Avoiding burnout and crisis are things that caregivers need to pay attention to and taking time for oneself can improve the relationship between the caregiver and the person being cared for. When caregivers are able to look after their own mental and physical health, then they are also best able to help their loved ones. Interview with Robert Schwartz July 17, 2012 Connie: I’m delighted to be interviewing Robert Schwartz again. I first interviewed Robert in October 2008 after reading his first book: Your Soul’s Plan: Discovering the Real Meaning of the Life You Planned Before You Were Born (previously titled: Courageous Souls: Do We Plan Our Life Challenges Before Birth? (Whispering Winds Press, 2007; Frog Books, 2009).

For example, in my first book I share the story of a woman, Christina, who planned before birth to be in a bomb explosion. She planned this because she wanted to have an incarnation as a gifted healer, and she knew pre-birth that if she could heal herself from the explosion, she would then take all that wisdom and knowledge about healing and use it service to others. But, we all have free will, and the bomber could have chosen not to follow through with the plan. So, Christina had back-up plans in place, other severe ‘accidents’ that would have provided her with just as great an opportunity to heal herself and, later, many others.

Robert’s second book, Your Soul’s Gift: The Healing Power of the Life You Planned Before You Were Born (Whispering Winds Press, 2012), has just been published, and it’s filled with even more wonderfully healing stories. I can easily say that these are two of my favorite books, ever. I’ve learned so much from each and every person’s story.

Robert: My interest in this subject came from a session - my first ever - with a medium in 2003. The medium channeled my spirit guides, who told me that I had planned my life and my biggest challenges before I was born. I just shook my head and said: “Why in the world did I do that?” Well, they had answers to that question. I chose my challenges in order to learn lessons in selflove, courage, and compassion, among other lessons.

Both books explore the premise that we are all eternal souls who plan our lives, including our greatest challenges, before we’re born for the purpose of spiritual growth. Both books contain true stories of people who planned their lives’ biggest challenges before birth. These included physical illness, having handicapped children, deafness, blindness, drug addiction, alcoholism, losing a loved one, severe accidents, spiritual awakening, miscarriage and abortion, caregiving, abusive relationships, sexuality, incest, adoption, poverty, suicide, rape, and mental illness. Robert Schwartz is a counselor and certified hypnotherapist who helps people heal by understanding what they planned before they were born and why. He offers Spiritual Guidance Sessions (usually focused on the life plan), Past Life Soul Regressions, and Between Lives Soul Regressions. Both types of regressions offer the opportunity for the client to speak with a spirit guide and learn about their life plan. For more information please visit Robert online at www.yoursoulsplan.com Welcome, Robert. Let’s start off with the obvious question… What is ‘pre-birth planning’? Robert: Pre-birth planning is the planning each and every one of us does at the soul level before we’re born. We choose our future parents, children, lovers, friends, enemies (if we’re planning to have any), teachers and employers. We also plan our greatest challenges. Sometimes the challenges are planned quite specifically; other times they are planned in more general terms. For example, in Your Soul’s Plan there’s a story of a man who plans specifically to have AIDS. But in other instances, a soul might plan to have a severe illness of some type, leaving open the specific form it may take. We also create what you might call ‘back-up plans’. In other words, there isn’t just a ‘Plan A’ for a life; there are also ‘Plans B, C, D, E’, and on and on. ILoveMosaicMagazine.com

By the way, she’s done just that. After she recovered from the bomb explosion, she obtained a PhD in Speech Language Pathology and opened a private practice in which she has now healed thousands of people. Connie: How did you become interested in pre-birth planning?

Now, I might have dismissed everything the guides said as some sort of delusion on my part, except that they knew literally everything about me, including private thoughts and feelings I had never shared with anyone. They even knew about a specific prayer I had said five years earlier, privately in my own home, and silently in my own mind. When beings know literally everything about you, it gives them a lot of credibility. Connie: What kind of feedback did you get from your first book, Your Soul’s Plan? Robert: Overwhelmingly positive. People wrote to say it had completely changed the way they look at life. Specifically, many people said it made them less judgmental. They realized that since they don’t know what another person’s plan is, they can’t possibly judge another person. I was particularly touched by a review written by a teacher of handicapped students. She said that prior to reading the book, she felt sorry for her students. After reading it, she was filled with respect and admiration for them, because she had come to believe that they had courageously chosen their handicaps. She said it completely changed the way she taught. It was deeply gratifying for me to hear that. Connie: How is your second book, Your Soul’s Gift, different from your first book? Robert: It’s different in three ways. My first book explores solely the pre-birth planning of challenges. This is also the focus of the new book, but the new book discusses the planning of two experiences that don’t necessarily fall into the challenge category: spiritual awakening (though certainly that can be a challenge) and the pre-birth planning we do with our future pets. Second, the new book explores healing in greater range and depth. How do we heal from the challenges we planned for Autumn 2012 — Mosaic Magazine

Interview continued from page 33 ourselves? Also, there is more discussion of the fact that if we respond to life challenges with love and by learning the underlying lessons, we can catalyze great healing at the level of the soul. Lastly, the new book explores the prebirth planning of two particularly difficult subjects - incest and rape. Yes, these experiences are sometimes, though certainly not always, planned before birth. Why? Many people have had past lives in which they came to believe things about themselves that the soul knows are not true. Two of the most common false beliefs are a belief that one is unworthy or even worthless and a belief that one is powerless. A fundamental spiritual truth is that there is no unexpressed consciousness. If someone has either of these false beliefs with in their consciousness, it will ‘outpicture’ on the world. The purpose of this is not to punish the person, but rather to bring the false belief to the light of conscious awareness, where it may then be healed. This is a very difficult way in which to evolve, but it has the potential to create deep healing for the soul. Connie: How has writing these books changed you? Robert: I’ve become like the teacher I mentioned earlier. I have so much respect and admiration for everyone who has the courage to incarnate on Earth. This is why I originally called my first book Courageous Souls.

Also, when I have a big decision to make, I’m less likely to make it by asking: “What's best for me?” I’m more likely to ask myself: “Which of these possible choices will I be most proud of when I see this replayed in life review?” That’s a very different way of approaching life. I have a friend who wrote: “Make yourself proud!” on an index card and displayed the card prominently in her home so that she sees it often. She’s referring to that same idea; she wants to be proud of herself, after her life is over, for how she lived her life. That’s a wise and wonderful way to approach life. Connie: How has the knowledge of prebirth planning changed your life? Robert: In addition to what I mentioned, I’m much less judgmental. It isn’t possible for me to judge someone fairly unless I have perfect knowledge of everything about them, including their

pre-birth plan. And if I did have such knowledge, I’d have no judgment of them, because I would understand that their life plan was created in love and with great wisdom, and that they are simply living that plan as best they can, just as we all are. Connie: What is an example of a pre-birth plan from your newest book? Robert: In the Suicide chapter, I share the story of Carolyn, who knew before birth that her only son, Cameron, was likely to commit suicide. Suicide is never planned as a certainty, but it is planned as a possibility and sometimes as a very high probability, as was the case with Cameron. In a channeling in that chapter, I talk at length with Jeshua (Jesus) about suicide. And he shares one of the most powerful and important pieces of information I’ve ever come across in my work. He tells us: “All suicides preventable by outside forces were indeed prevented.” What he means is that if the suicidal person has the slightest openness to changing their mind, Spirit will stage an intervention. Maybe a bird flies by and distracts the person. Or maybe someone walks by and smiles. Sometimes an angel assumes human form and intervenes. But something will happen to prevent the suicide. Think about the implications of this. If someone has lost a loved one to suicide, there was nothing they could have done to save the person. There is no need for guilt or self-blame. There was literally nothing they could have done. Connie: Is ‘healing’ the main motive in planning our life challenges? Robert: It’s a major motivation. But understand that we are talking here about healing at the level of the soul. In other words, it’s not as though we plan to cut ourselves so that we can then heal the cut. Rather, it’s that our response to the cut can catalyze healing for the soul. For example, in my first book there’s a story of a man who plans to be an alcoholic. He plans this experience for several reasons, one of them being that in a past life he died in a state of great fear. That fear is still part of his consciousness. He planned to carry the fear into body in his current lifetime because he knew it would drive him to drink. He also knew that the drinking would drive him to his knees - which it literally did - where he would call out to God for help. In that moment he felt God’s presence. A few weeks later he checked into rehab and never drank again. In other words, the spiritual connection he felt with God healed him. It was a brilliant life plan. Think about how he came full circle: the fear drove him to drink; the drinking drove him to spirituality; his newfound spirituality healed the fear. This is a soul-level healing carried out in a physical body.

Connie: How would you prescribe ‘karma’? Robert: Karma can be conceptualized as unbalanced energy. For example, let’s say two people have a past life together in which one is ill and the other person is the caregiver. When they transition into Spirit and have their life review, they may have a sense of unbalanced energy around that relationship, and they may be motivated to balance it. The simplest, easiest, most direct way to do that is to switch roles. So, the person who was ill plans the life challenge of caregiving, and the one who was the caregiver plans the life challenge of illness. Karma can also be thought of as unresolved emotional ties. Releasing karma then means untying the ties that bind. Let’s say, for example, there are two people who each believe that the other wronged them. For a period of time, they are both filled with rage and hatred toward each other. Then, one person forgives the other. That forgiveness unties the anger and hatred that had previously bound them to that person. This is why it’s possible for someone to resolve their karma with someone else independent of what the other person does. Connie: How did you choose the cases to write about in your books? Robert: I chose to write about common life challenges and experiences because I wanted to make the books as helpful to as many people as possible. Beyond that, I chose particular individuals because something in their story spoke to me deeply at an emotional level. These weren’t necessarily analytic decisions. I just trusted my intuition. Connie: How did you find the psychics/mediums to work with you on both books? Robert: I could tell you about the various things that happened to bring us into contact with each other, but I believe the real answer is that Spirit guided us to each other. It really is as simple as that. Connie: What is ‘victim consciousness’ and how can pre-birth planning help? Robert: Victim consciousness, which is very common today, is the belief that someone or something has unjustly done something to you. Victim consciousness is tremendously disempowering, and feeling disempowered is an extremely low vibrational state. The channeled consciousness Abraham (channeled by Esther Hicks), ranked 22 emotional states in order of frequency or vibration. Number 22 - the very lowest in terms of vibration - is powerlessness.

Connie: Why do we choose the difficult circumstances that we do? (In the book it says that the difficult experiences we have “instill the very qualities we will need to help us heal.”)

The truth is that we are the powerful creators of everything we experience. Some of what we experience is planned before birth; some isn’t. And some of what we experience is created consciously, though much isn’t. Humanity is in the process of learning to create consciously.

Robert: Because the soul learns through opposites. Let’s say that a soul cares deeply about understanding and cultivating compassion. A common life plan would then be to incarnate into a family that treats the person with a lack of compassion. The external lack of compassion is intended to drive the person inward, where it is hoped they will discover and fan the flames of their own compassion, offering it to themself.

An awareness of pre-birth planning empowers a person to emerge from victim consciousness. If you know that you are the creator of all your experience - even if you haven’t yet figured out how to create consciously most of the time - you are well on your way to remembering who you really are: a limitless, powerful, creative and ever-creating soul. You are a spark of Divinity, magnificent, whole, and radiant.

Interview continued from page 35 Connie: Explain the ‘learning by contrast’ plan. Robert: We’ve touched on this already, but let me explain further by borrowing an analogy from one of the Conversation with God books (written by Neale Donald Walsch). Imagine that you are a white being in a white room. The ceiling is white. The floor is white. All the walls around you are white. And you yourself are white. Now, if you are such a being in such a room, how do you know that you’re white? The answer is that you don’t, and in fact you can’t until you experience something that is other than white. Then, once you’ve had that experience, you understand what it means to be a white being. This, I think, is what the soul is doing on the physical plane. We are Love. We come from a realm in which there is only Love. We therefore experience no contrast to ourselves, which in turn means that we don’t fully understand or appreciate what it means to be a soul made literally from the energy of Unconditional Love. So, we come to Earth for the experience of the contrast, the ‘not-love’, because then when we return Home, we have a much more profound self-knowing of who we really are.

Robert: It’s difficult to quantify, but I would say quite a bit. In pre-birth planning sessions, souls very often express sentiments along the lines of: “I want to get that right.” They’re referring to past lives in which they didn’t do as well as they had hoped. There again is that idea of making ourselves proud. Connie: What has your research shown about why we choose the families that we do? Robert: There are many, many reasons for choosing our families. I can’t give you a simple answer other than to say that the choice is never random, arbitrary or meaningless. These decisions are based on great wisdom and made with great love. Connie: Are you saying that if we have intense relationships with certain people in our lives (difficult or rewarding), that there is definitely some past life connection? Robert: That’s very possible, even probable, but I wouldn’t say that’s the explanation 100% of the time. In general, we reincarnate with members of our soul group - souls at the same stage of evolution with whom we take turns playing every conceivable role. But sometimes we choose to work with a soul or souls we’ve never shared a lifetime with.

Connie: How important is the quality of courage in facing our difficulties?

Connie: How important is gratitude for our life circumstances and even the toughest people or circumstances that we deal with?

Robert: A fortune cookie once said: “Courage is not simply one of the virtues, but the form of every virtue at the testing point.” This goes to show you that there can be a lot of wisdom in fortune cookies.

Robert: The conscious use of gratitude is a spiritual technology. It raises your vibration in quite profound ways. It’s a way of magnetizing into your life more of what you want.

Whatever you are here to learn - whether it’s compassion, patience, empathy, unconditional love or any number of other virtues - you will need courage to apply the virtue at your testing points - testing points that you yourself planned before you were born. Connie: How much of pre-birth planning comes from the desire to heal past life issues?

A basic spiritual law is that you will get more of whatever you focus on. If you simply think about something, that’s like sending a black-and-white movie out into the Universe that says: “Bring me more of this.”

Artist’s Gallery

Painting the world around me by Sylvia Prochownik I paint because I enjoy painting.

Uculet Memories © Sylvia Prochownik

It is rewarding, challenging and allows me to interact with the world around me… to search for beauty and to translate it to canvas. I have found that what I’m interested in painting often comes from a feeling of familiarity. I observe the world around me and especially notice places and objects that I feel I once knew, or that I’m drawn to. I believe that part of being an artist is to observe and record the world around me. Painting is like a photo with a special essence of a memory contained inside.

I hope to inspire people to be interested in art or to create themselves - to seek out and share what they find. Everyone can be an artist and share the preciousness of the sublime, and the peculiarity of every moment that passes. I’m inspired by others’ reactions to art and their interest in it. I love that the people I meet through art have the same feeling as I did when I painted it. I like hearing their response to art and what a particular image reminds them of or makes them feel.

(Italian) With heart and soul

Following my own voice When I was in Grade 3, our teacher, tired of having us write ‘boyfriend/girlfriend’ stories, told us to write a story about something (anything!) else. After she reprimanded us and told us to rewrite it, the classroom fell quiet and everyone went to work on rewriting their stories. I sat there dispirited, not sure what to write about when I heard a man’s voice, behind me, clearly say: “You are going to be a writer.” What? I looked behind me to see who was speaking, but no one was there. All the students were busy writing at their desks and the female teacher was at the front of the room. I just sort of shook my head to clear it, but then I heard him again: “You are going to be a writer.” This time, I realized something amazing had just occurred (as there was no one physically there). I looked around; no one else seemed to hear this unseen man’s voice. At that moment I knew, deep inside, that a mystical and divine thing had just happened to me. Even when the teacher gave me a ‘C’ grade on my new story, I didn’t care, because I was going to be a writer! I need to explain that this ‘new found’ belief in myself was a big leap for me. I started school very young and struggled from the beginning. I was behind most of the others and, to have someone tell me that I would be a writer, was like saying that I would someday be the Queen of England. It was very unlikely, but this ‘voice’ had not said this to anyone else that day - it had only spoken to me. I wish I could say, after that, I loved to read and write but I didn’t. In fact, not much changed. It was like I had this big secret inside of me but nothing in my life had transformed otherwise. But as time went by, I did learn to love to read. Then in high school, I had a wonderful English teacher (Mrs. Perry) who thought I was a good writer and encouraged me to continue with it.

to write about anything. But if I was going to be a writer, I knew I needed someone to ‘teach’ me how to write. I loved the writing, I loved the photography and I loved the graphic design and layout, but when it was all over and done, I really disliked working as a reporter for weekly newspapers. So it was with much regret (especially in myself for having believed in that voice), that I ended up abandoning writing to become an Executive Assistant instead.

Yet, almost 20 years later… in the midst of my awakening spiritual journey, and Catherine Potter passing on the reins of Mosaic Magazine to me, that amazing voice I heard in Grade 3 made DIVINE sense. It might seem crazy that I ended up here, right now talking to you, because of a voice I heard so many years ago, yet I think there is a voice in all of us that tells us what dreams we need to follow and where we will shine (and serve) best. After I was ‘told’ I would be a writer, I struggled with what I would ever write about and even now, I often tussle with what to write about in each Mosaic. In the end, I tell stories about ‘what I know for sure’ - my experiences/challenges and the many little miracles that happen to me along the way that help me to grow, learn and change.

When I write it is my goal to be open, honest and real, because I value those traits. I know that I can instantly change from hearing the true stories of others, and so, when I share my stories, it’s always with the intention to help others. I never tell a story just to tell it. If I tell you a story about my life it’s because I’ve learned something I hope will help you with your life in some way. Sometimes telling a personal story about my life can leave me feeling vulnerable, like I’ve told a big secret. But I know that my secrets are everyone’s secrets. We aren’t very different, any of us. We’re all travelers on the same journey, facing many of the same things camouflaged in different packages. I truly do believe that we change each other when we tell our truth and when we follow our truth. I think that’s why I’m a writer… so I’d follow my own ‘voice’.

When high school was over, I worked for a few years and then applied for Journalism at Grant MacEwan. Even then, the only reason I went to Journalism was because of the voice I heard in Grade 3. I still didn’t have a burning desire
