I Love Mosaic Then in late 2003, when I unexpectedly talked with Catherine Potter about taking over Mosaic, another of my dreams began to crystalize. After 20 years, here was the kind of magazine I had always dreamed of being a part of. Ten years later (and 40 issues) my goal is still to create a beautiful magazine that is filled with useful information that helps you, the reader, learn about resources that are available to help you heal and ultimately find wholeness and peace. Deepak says this, and Louise Hay says that, but I know that you and I are never going to see either of them to get personal help. So I want to help you find ‘your people’ - the people that can help you change your life for the better.

www.L3photo.com

That’s why I publish this magazine. I know, for myself, how very much holistic/energy therapies and personal self-development classes/tools have helped me transform my life (360°) and therefore I just can’t help but want to share those possibilities with you. Every answer to every problem you have lies inside of you and you just need to find the right medium/method to get those answers. by Connie Brisson This is a particularly special issue of Mosaic for me. Not only do I have Ganesh (the Hindu elephant god) on my cover, I’m also celebrating that this issue marks my 10th anniversary publishing Mosaic Magazine. It’s been an amazing journey. It began in Grade 3 when I heard a voice tell me I would be a writer. Almost 15 years later I took journalism at Grant MacEwan because of that voice. Then, somewhat disillusioned, I abandoned the whole writing thing for the next 20 years, until Mosaic Magazine magically came to me.

For me Ganesh is very symbolic of what I think Mosaic is all about. He is the remover of obstacles. He offers assistance to help us overcome the things in our lives that hold us back from being all we can be, and my goal is always for Mosaic to do that too, in its own way. It was one of my teachers, Skye MacLachlan, who first introduced me to Ganesh many years ago. She gave me a wooden statue of Ganesh after a tarot session, feeling that she needed to pass it on to me. Growing up Catholic, I didn’t know anything about this Hindu elephant god, but I’ll tell you that Ganesh instantly had a special place in my heart. I felt his protective energy and a deep connection.

When I took journalism, we didn’t learn about magazine publishing (the focus was on newspapers), but yet I just had this deep desire in me to someday write for a magazine that I really believed in, one that could help people change their lives. But there weren’t any magazines in Edmonton like that then (1985).

My love for Ganesh has only gotten stronger. I can’t seem to have enough images of Ganesh in my home, whether it is paintings, statues or beautiful crystals carved into his image. In fact, a few years ago Gabrielle had a little friend over and when she left she said: “You sure do have a lot of elephants in your house.” I laughed at her innocent remark because they weren’t just elephants they were all Ganesh.

It wasn’t until 10 years later, in the fall of 1995, that Catherine Potter and Brenda Mottram created Mosaic. It was a 16 page magazine on newsprint with articles on astrology, tarot, feng shui, a recipe for fall vegetable stew and the top 10 books at Ascendant Books - #1 was Earth Pleadians Keys to Living (Bear & Company, 1994) by Barbara Marciniak.

To compliment our Ganesh cover (beautifully painted by Jayna Simpson), I thought it would be perfect to have a Ganesh theme on our Things I Love Page (page 37). I love buying Ganesh related things - it just seems to make any object that much more special if Ganesh is on or in it.

During that time I was working as an Executive Assistant at Telus, happy enough, but with a deep knowing that I wasn’t where I really was meant to be. Gratefully, in 2000 I had my beautiful daughter and my dream of being a mother came true.

#1 Secret of all successful healers by Fia-Lynn Crandall Intuitive Business Consultant There are a lot of things I had to learn the hard way on my path from being a Mechanical Engineer to building a successful healing business. One of them was very surprising, yet it has been one of the secrets to my success and to the success of so many other thriving healers. This secret has the potential to accelerate the growth of your healing business and possibly save you years of unnecessary struggle.

thousands of people. It will be shared with the communities of many multi-million dollar business owners. This is a dream come true. Yet it wasn’t just a dream that magically manifested. It took me using this #1 secret multiple times to even allow for it to appear. Okay so the #1 secret of all successful healers is this: I choose COURAGE over comfort. What does this mean? Comfortable actions get you more of the same results. And if you want to make more money than you are now, if you want to reach more people, you’ll have to leave your comfort zone. This means, you want to be OKAY with being uncomfortable! It is the willingness to be uncomfortable, to mess up, to make mistakes, to stumble, to fall, to fail and to not be perfect that will create way more success, way faster. And that takes courage.

Before I share this secret with you, I’d like to share with you what a typical healing business looks like operating without this secret. I know it all too well as I spent years struggling with this myself.

There’s nothing wrong with focusing on feeling good, but taking good-feeling actions only is detrimental in business and could be the exact thing in the way of your success. Why? Because actions that feel good and comfortable are in your COMFORT ZONE. Your comfort zone is basically where everything you’re comfortable with lives. Everything that you’re used to is in your comfort zone.

The path to your wildly amazing success is around you right now. If you’re willing to be uncomfortable to reach way more people, way faster, let the Universe know! Let the Universe know you’re willing to take NEW actions, to be courageous instead of comfortable. Gossip © Shell Cave

Without knowing the secret, most healers attempt to grow their business by doing what they feel drawn to and taking actions that feel good. Often they are big into the Law of Attraction (which is important!) so they focus on feeling good and like to stay in that good-feeling state as much as possible.

Believe me, you will have opportunities come to you. And they may terrify you. Awesome! Say ‘yes’. Step up. Your people are waiting! Call 1-800-618-4678!

So… if you’re not used to making awesome money as a healer, then taking comfortable actions will not create awesome money as that’s not currently in your comfort zone. In essence, comfortable actions lead to same old results. And you want more don’t you? Your soul is calling you to create more, isn’t it? Yes! When I was taking comfortable actions my sales were stuck at $800 a month. Ugh! Comfort is the old way! Okay, so on to the #1 secret. Recently I was blown away by a once in a lifetime opportunity that landed in my lap. My work is literally going to be exposed to hundreds of

Skye’s View

Chinese Year of the Wood Horse by Skye MacLachlan Feng Shui Consultant The Chinese New Year begins on January 31, 2014 and we welcome the Wood Horse. The fire element is extremely strong this year. Strong fire produces greater optimism, creativity, vitality, enthusiasm, passion, motivation for self-improvement, education opportunities and new business development. It also contributes to impatience, miscommunication, accidents and the potential for violence. Many of these challenges are preventable if we apply win/win strategies in communication and diplomacy. Here’s a look at the luck of each Chinese astrological animal in the year ahead:

Ox: Even though this year brings challenges, you will have the wisdom to make good decisions and have successful outcomes. Older Ox people may have digestive issues so pay attention to your diet. Romance is strong. Tiger: You can accomplish a great deal this year if you stay calm and focused. Romance is quite good. You’re prone to minor illnesses and must take care to avoid accidents on the road. Impatience is your enemy this year. Think twice before making financial investments; remember that there are plenty of opportunities around. Rabbit: You have a very auspicious wealth star this year. Your career will involve lots of hard work resulting in success. Romance is excellent for single Rabbits. The outlook for your health is relatively positive.

Horse: You have a very lucky and abundant wealth star this year. Approach your career goals with an attitude of ‘slow and steady’ wins the race. Be careful when using sharp metal tools such as knives; you are injury prone. Your health is dependent on drinking lots of water and staying calm.

Monkey: Many wonderful opportunities await you in the career area. You are prone to accidents and illness so drive carefully and avoid all risky activities. Rooster: Your wealth luck is quite good this year and career luck is stable. Romance is excellent; it’s a good year for courting Roosters to get married. Take care of your health as your immune system is weak this year. Dog: Your career, creativity and education goals shine brightly. Wealth is average - avoid gambling. Your health is negatively impacted by stress; focus on meditation and a healthy lifestyle. You are accident prone so drive carefully and avoid extreme sports (icy sidewalks)! You are very sensitive to other’s comments - try not to take things so personally.

Snake: The Snake’s luck is dependent upon diplomacy and harmonious communication this year. Remember to stay calm and avoid confrontation and demands when communicating with others, especially at work. You may create an extra stream of income this year through additional work or freelancing. Single Snakes have good romance luck. © Chris Riley

Sheep/Goat: Wealth and career look excellent for you this year. Challenges involve loneliness and being accident prone. Married Sheep will have a harmonious year with their spouse. Try to integrate small, healthy changes into your lifestyle this year.

Dragon: 2014 will be a demanding year but you’ll also reap many rewards in finances, career and romance. Your immune system is weak so take steps to improve your health.

May you be blessed with peace, joy, good health and abundance in the year of the Horse. For more about this upcoming year, my annual Chinese New Year’s talk is on February 11 (email skyedreamhorse@shaw.ca for tickets). Skye has specialized in Feng Shui for the home and business for over 30 years. She teaches Feng Shui, Tarot and Dreamwork at the Northern Star College of Mystical Studies in Edmonton, www.northernstarcollege.com or 780-447-3667.

Pig: Wealth luck is auspicious for you this year. Career will have ups and downs. New relationships (friendships and/or romance) will open doors of opportunity for you and bring luck. Your body is somewhat weak this year so adopt a healthy lifestyle and get plenty of massages. Rat: You are very optimistic this year and this will assist you through the ups and downs that visit all areas of your life. Remember to think twice before making decisions or taking action. Be especially careful when driving and take care to eat a healthy diet. www.MosaicMagazine.ca

Ask about any area of your life that you would like to have a greater level of understanding, healing, release, clarity or peace, such as your important relationships, patterns that you see repeated in your life, health and wellness concerns, financial issues and more. The sky is the limit on the types of questions that can be addressed in your Akashic Records - if it is about your life, then you can ask about it in your records.

Soul Questions © Carol Breen

I’ve been divorced for over 15 years now and have never had another major relationship. It was such a huge emotional trauma to have my marriage fall apart, when I wanted it to work so desperately, that as a result I’ve put up these huge, protective emotional walls around myself so that I won’t be so hurt again. The prospect of opening my heart once more is frightening to me but I really want to find a fulfilling relationship. What can I do to move past this barrier? HS, Edmonton

by Marilyn Buan Metaphysical Practitioner & Teacher

by Valerie Cameron Psychic/Medium

by Melissa Robak Crystal & Gem Store Owner

Moving past our emotional blocks is probably the reason many of us are here on Earth at this time. What makes it so ironic is that we are the ones who put the blocks there in the first place! We do this at a soul level with the help of our ‘guides’ and ‘oversoul’. We choose the date and time of birth that will best ensure that the people, events and circumstances in our lives will provide us with the needed lessons that will help us grow and evolve spiritually.

As with all relationships, people come into our lives to teach us. This relationship was giving you an opportunity to see how you view yourself.

This is not going to be easy. Come to terms with the fact that you WILL get hurt; it is inevitable in a fulfilling relationship. But you will also get love, happiness, respect and so much more from your partner when you are emotionally available and invested in the relationship.

One theme coming through your astrology chart, birth-name and the tarot, is the need to develop your ability to be compassionate in order to be able to forgive yourself and others. This includes working on trust issues to curb your tendency to react defensively. Kinesiology can help you identify and work on subconscious beliefs that are keeping you ‘stuck’ and preventing you from attracting a fulfilling relationship.

Anytime we are desperate to make something work it will always backfire because it can never be about ‘making’ something right. When we put up walls, we think we’re protecting ourselves, but often it’s because we don’t want to face things (in our life and ourselves) that we don’t want to change. We can’t attract or give away what we don’t have or give ourselves. The question then is to ask yourself: “How is my relationship with myself?” Do you really love who you are - every aspect - your body, your mind, your emotions? Most people don’t love who they are and then, the fault that they find in themselves, they also find/see in others. Everyone mirrors small aspects of what really needs to be healed in ourselves.

Flower Essences can also be taken to help release fear and open up your heart chakra so you can fulfil what your soul longs for you to do in this lifetime - to share your innate wisdom and be of service in some way to humanity!

The best (but hardest) thing for me was to stand in front of a mirror and say, over and over: “Valerie, I love you.” It brought up all my selfjudgments, and as each one surfaced, it allowed me to acknowledge them and then love/accept even my ‘flawed’ parts. This exercise helps dissolve self-imposed ‘barriers’.

First, let go of your past relationship problems with an apache’s tear. Find a quiet place in nature to transfer your feelings into the stone and then bury it, signifying the end of this cycle. To open yourself to love, I would recommend rose quartz and moonstone the stones of unconditional love, divine feminine energy and new beginnings. Surround yourself with creativity and sexual energy with carnelian and mookite jasper and trade your protective black tourmaline for a smoky quartz, to allow room for new energy! I am getting that your ideal transformation stone is moldavite. It is not normally my first recommendation for a stone, but I feel that its strong energies will compete with your strong character and bring out the trailblazer that is within you! Adrenal fatigue, not menopause? Menopause can be an easy transition in a woman’s life. Or not… especially when there’s been accumulated stress, including toxins, symptoms of hot flashes, night sweats, fatigue, digestive issues or weight gain experienced. These symptoms are a direct result of adrenal fatigue and low thyroid function, not menopause per say. When a woman’s hormone production starts to decrease during peri-menopause and into menopause, the body requires the adrenal glands and thyroid to ‘step up’ more and handle the extra load of supplying some hormones and regulation so the stress of this natural transition is doable. But if you have had constant stress in your life prior to this then your reserves are exhausted - they can’t step up any more than they already are. In 2009, I felt like I ran out of gas no energy. I could barely walk two blocks whereas I used to run four miles a day with my dogs. I felt tired and down even after just waking up and I was constipated for the first time in 12 years, which felt awful and didn’t look good on my resume as I am also a Certified Colon Hydrotherapist! I was four years post menopause. So this was the alleged menopause hell clients had told be about! In the prior six month period, my sister Judy was diagnosed with cancer, my husband and I split up and I had to sell my acreage in the country. My 20-year-old cat, Mazer, was killed by coyotes. I had to give away three dogs and two cats. I searched for and bought a house in Edmonton, packed and moved myself and my alternative health clinic. I then fought and won a two month neighbour disagreement so I could legally have my new clinic in my new home and then completed a major renovation there to include my clinic. Then, just before I opened for business, my last dog, Princess, got cancer and I had to put her to sleep. This was way too much for my already exhausted adrenals and thyroid to handle.

not a crisis) due to these automatic responses being hardwired into us at a young age. This causes adrenal insufficiency and low thyroid function over time plus other more serious illness later. Biofeedback Stress Reduction Therapy training helped me change my hardwired stress responses, balanced my adrenals and thyroid and it has emotionally de-stressed me immensely so I can live within my own ‘life force energy’ now instead of just adrenaline. I added Biofeedback to my alternative health clinic in 2009 because of the profound success it had on me personally, including renewed energy and a deep calmness.

Stress is the underlying cause of 97% of all disease or illness. Biofeedback uses frequencies to identify, then reprogram, our unhealthy stress responses (emotionally, physically and mentally) so we can process stress differently when it happens in our life, which produces a healthier person on every level. The most amazing thing is I can still get just as much done in a day but in a calm way.

Clients use Biofeedback Stress Reduction to identify, reduce and eliminate a vast majority of symptoms. Anita, a 55-year-old client, had no hot flashes for three months after her first Biofeedback session. She says she feels more energized so is continuing with it to reduce her stress responses in other areas. Biofeedback is helping her to rebalance her life. Your adrenals are tiny thumb sized glands that sit atop your kidneys. It is the adrenals that respond to stress. They produce ‘adrenaline’ to energize us when there is a need for ‘fight, flight or freeze’. Unfortunately this ‘stress response’ often happens for just normal events (that are

Get to the next level with self-regulation by Dr. Robin Browne Doctor of Chiropractic

helping your brain find your body, a process called ‘self-regulation’.

2014 is a year of reorganization and evolution. Your body could be a reservoir of ease, calm, energy, ability, excitement and joy.

In their normal state, your muscles are at ease and ready to support whatever you need to do. Most of us don’t pay much attention to our body at this point because it’s in a state of rest or comfort. But if you did pay attention and became more present in your body, your ordinary would transform into extraordinary.

But when you have aches and pains, it can be difficult to carry on and stay positive. When you are mostly aware of stress in your life, you really just want a break; you want it all to go away. Your body feels burdened. You can be losing sleep. No matter how you try, some things are falling apart.

Beyond ‘normal’, at the next level of ease, your muscles will feel like they are filling with light, energy or awareness. Muscles in this state are very intuitive in the way they respond and can open you to whole new ways of responding to life's challenges.

Symptoms are the way your body creates a reason for you to look inside. What are you supposed to look for? For years we’ve stopped our healing at the point where the pain or tension goes away. Our common goal is to return to the life we had before the problem. Once you achieve reduced symptoms and improved function, you’ve reached ‘normal’. If you stop at normal, fine or okay, you really mean ‘average’. You’re missing the gifts of how the body is capable of so much more. Normal is merely ordinary. The purpose of your symptoms of stress, pain and tension are to disrupt your ordinary life to give you a chance to reconsider and reorganize toward a higher level of ability. Network Care helps my clients’ aches, pains and headaches resolve quickly, using a light touch at specific points on the neck and back. It also helps the reduction of spastic and tight muscles and it supports improved coordination and stability. Most adjustments result in a sense of ease and calm, with improved energy and focus.

Irises 3 © Monika Dery

Don’t worry, it isn’t your fault. The tension, stress or pain and also your concern about it, are all a sign from your body that it is carrying too much energy, bound in the tension of your muscles.

Soon you become aware that the body is actually mirroring your experience on the inside. So if your muscles feel light, energized, intuitive and responsive, you also have a resource of light, energy, intuition and responsiveness in the way you think and feel. You simply have to be present enough in your body to find it.

Imagine, your muscles can be a reservoir of abundance, inspiring your evolution and your being. This can happen for anyone, because it’s a process that honors both our physiology and our authentic, core nature. With Network Care, in a month, you’ll realize you have a body. In two months you’ll love having a body. In six months you’ll use that body to transform your life. In one year you’ll use that life to transform your world. Robin offers Network Care at New Strategy Wellness Centre. It’s exciting how easy wellness can be. To get started today call 780 429-0023. See Robin at edmontonchiropractorblog.com Note: This information is for educational purposes only. “I’m currently 48-years-old and would like to improve my health, sleep well and have no (or at least reduced) chronic pain. I’ve had two car accidents (first one in my early 20’s; last one at 45) that have badly injured my neck and the last accident caused my C6&7 disc to herniate, causing nerve damage to my left arm and three fingers. Along with this I have a lot of myofascial and soft tissue injuries from my neck down to my hips. I also suffer with serve headaches and sleepless nights. I’m taking a number medications for the pain. At present, I’m also trying some steroid injections in my neck to help alleviate the pain (helps but only temporarily). Any ideas/advice you can offer will be greatly appreciated.” BD, Edmonton

by Dale Pierce Jin Shin Do® Teacher With Jin Shin Do® Bodymind Acupressure® we want to help you feel better and deal with the underlying issues that block energy and create your reality. Gently holding a number of points will help me to assess in a more specific way where the energy is not flowing. With you, I would start by balancing your defensive energy with your nourishing energy to allow your body to use its resources better. Our focus (yours and mine) would begin at the neck with the goal of releasing excess tension there to open communication between the body and the mind, increase flexibility and reveal how emotions create a body response.

by Tammie Quick Doctor of Homeopathy and Heilkunst The Heilkunst system of medicine utilizes perfectly chosen homeopathic medicines, given in correct order and potency, to reverse the negative effects of past trauma(s). Until your two car accidents are dealt with in this manner, other attempts at healing will likely be limited in their success. Yours is an extremely complex case that requires additional homeopathic support for pain management, inflammation, adrenal fatigue and the eventual weaning off of pain medications. The sleeplessness is likely a combination of extreme adrenal exhaustion, pain and side effects of medications. And you could really benefit with some education about 'rebound pain' caused by pain medications.

by Donna Reilly Reiki Master/Teacher I will have to agree with you, taking injections and pain medications can help, but only temporarily. What you really need to do is go to the root of the pain, as I feel this is much deeper than a result of the accidents. Symptoms in our body are signals for us (headaches are related to self-criticism and neck pain is related to stubbornness). Sometimes when we try to solve these experiences externally, we just end up creating more pain and anxiety towards the situation. You need to stop fighting what your body is trying to tell you.

Instead of pain, you will begin to recognize and release those stuck emotions relating to the accidents, or perhaps even further back, and this will change the way your body experiences pain. Headache and sleeplessness often result from avoiding body awareness and spending time and energy in the mind trying to figure out what is happening and avoiding pain consciousness. This is your opportunity to change that pattern. All of the energetic and physical shifts that begin with treatment will be enhanced and solidified through specific breathing and movement that you will practice between treatments. A Heilkunst physician will treat the past, in order to regain health in the present, AND support this patient with proper diet, supplements and lifestyle choices in order to stop the inflammation that is responsible for so much of the problems described. The homeopathic medicine Hypericum is well indicated because of the pain and because of the nerve damage. Additionally tons of rest and stress reduction, lots of quality salt (like Himalayan), and an adrenal glandular will be paramount to full recovery. Once the adrenals are healthy again, the body will produce its own cortisol (steroid injections) and you will sleep like a baby! Meditation is one method of bringing in a more relaxed state of mind, which could also release some of the tension in your body. Reiki combined with hypnosis is a very quick and effective way of going deeper into a meditative state. This allows you to understand more clearly what the relationship is with the energy that you put into your body. I have worked with clients with similar situations. Some were very surprised when they discovered, it really was not about the accidents, but what the pain in the body was trying to tell them. What is enlightenment? Throughout history this question has been asked by anyone looking for self-understanding and the meaning of existence. Who am I? Why am I here? What is the meaning of life? These are all aspects of the fundamental question: “What is enlightenment?” This search for meaning is so important to some men and women that they have dedicated their whole lives to experiencing it. Buddhist monks and other spiritual seekers spend a significant amount of time in their lives meditating on it and may never experience enlightenment. Yet, Chogyam Trunpa calls enlightenment: “The mind/ego’s greatest disappointment.” It cannot be achieved through great effort, training or by superior intelligence. It will not be recognized by a medal, trophy or a parade. No one will cheer. You likely have heard the story about an ancient enlightened master who was asked by one of his students what he did before becoming enlightened. He replied: “I chopped wood and carried water.” When asked what he now did afterwards, he replied: “I chop wood and carry water.” Given all that, why bother? It seems to imply that you need to literally be ‘out of your mind’. Perhaps the answer is ‘because it is there’, just like the mountain sitting there waiting to be climbed. There is a deep longing in each of us to know the truth of ourselves and of existence. We long to know this despite being lost in what some call the dream or what the Vedic texts call maya, the illusion of reality perceived by our senses and conceptualized by our mind.

words, concepts and boundaries, beyond the senses and the mind. Nevertheless, there are many definitions that provide valuable insight. Paramahansa Yogananda defines it as: “The process of letting go of the mind/ego sense and then truly and freely experiencing your own divine nature without any limitation.” The Enlightenment Intensive is a 3½ day retreat developed 60 years ago. Since then thousands of people around the world have participated in this life changing event. It offers a very unique and simple, yet profound practice that allows you to quickly journey deep within yourself and to peel away the layers of personality that you have accumulated to accommodate life. In a safe, supportive and encouraging environment, you can have a ‘direct experience’ - a pure and direct realization of who you really are. You will then be more capable of living your life more fully in the now, more authentically, with confidence, compassion and creativity.

In this way it has had a significant impact on me and my own life. Therefore, I want to offer it to others who will also benefit from the experience. As Eckart Tolle so eloquently states: “You also realize that all the things that truly matter - beauty, love, creativity, joy, inner peace - all arise from beyond the mind. You begin to awaken.” Join us for the next Enlightenment Intensive (being offered on April 24 - 28) at a beautiful, country retreat centre just east of Edmonton. I would be happy to talk or to meet with anyone who is interested and would like more information. In addition to having extensive experience as a Mental Health Therapist, Paul is a fully trained facilitator of the Enlightenment Intensive, and has been involved with it for the past eight years. Various religions and spiritual traditions have different names for the truth: Samadi, Satori, Kensho, Nirvana, Union with God and Awakening, to name a few. There are many spiritual practices devoted to experiencing it. Meditation is the most common one and there are many forms of meditation. So much has been written about enlightenment, in fact, that there is hardly enough space here to begin to describe it. Every spiritual tradition and religion has its own definition or meaning for it. A common theme in all the writing is that words are never quite adequate to define enlightenment. This is because it exists beyond

2014 - It’s your year! Is 2014 the year where you take the step you’ve always imagined and become a Certified Life or Executive Coach? I took this step several years back. For years, I did ‘undercover coaching’. This is where people come to you for coaching, mentoring and guidance because you naturally exude wisdom and compassion. People would share their challenges and I would listen. I would give them advice, which they would apply and their lives would be positively transformed. ‘Undercover coaching’ worked well for a while, but soon I felt I should be trained and certified. So I took the plunge. Becoming a Certified Coach was one of the best steps I’ve ever taken. It provided me with the skills and tools to help people and organizations uncover their potential, passions and true purpose, and to support them as they began to move forward, deal with their hindrances and make positive change. Michelangelo said it like this: “I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free.” As coaches, we work hard to help our clients become free of dysfunction, unhealthy patterns and bad choices that are holding them back. The focus of coaching is to help people uncover their potential, fully understand and fully implement it, removing barriers and obstacles along the way. Coaches help us to gain an insight, shift a perspective, adjust an attitude, build a mental framework, ‘reprogram’, deepen self-awareness, develop a skill.

4) They practice discretion and principled values. Coaches have strong ethical and confidentiality guidelines. 5) They have the capacity to offer possibilities and solutions. We all have unlimited potential and a proficient coach will recognize this and will work to draw upon this innate potential so we can live our best lives! So, how do you become a Certified Coach? The truth is that there are several credible paths: - Your life experience qualifies you to help and support others in their journey. When you look to your journey, every high and every low has something of value for others. - Your education qualifies you to coach. We all have education, with some being formal and some informal. - Your work experience prepares you to coach. Your unique tools and developed skills are gifts for others. - Your coach training develops you as a Certified Coach. There are several training options and it’s simply a matter of doing your research and picking the option which best fits you. Carbonero Capirotado © Faye Boychuk

by Abe Brown Certified Master Coach Trainer

Lastly, your passion for people is the number one quality which qualifies us to coach. This passion for people gives us empathy, understanding and wisdom as we seek to support people in living their best lives! Life Experience + Education + Work Experience + Training + Passion for People = Certified Coach. If you have this passion for people, then 2014 is your year to become a Certified Coach. Step out and take the plunge; you will not regret it, as you make an impact on people around you! Abe Brown is the Founder of Momentum Coaching (www.momentumcoaching.ca, and the North American President of the Certified Coaches Federation (www.certifiedcoachesfederation.com), one of the largest Life and Executive Coach Certification bodies in the world. A Certified Coach is someone who gets to know you well, helps you stay focused, accountable and on course. This person is a non-judgmental support, a trusted role model, adviser, ally and guide. Here are some qualities of effective coaches: 1) They are accomplished listeners. They have a deep and empathetic listening and hearing ability. 2) They are reframing professionals. They have developed the ability to help clients re-think a situation or limiting belief, turning problems into opportunities. 3) They have the capacity to suspend judgment. It is fundamental to the process that clients have a place to unload. Clients find this liberating and energizing.

Ayahuasca - sacrament or drug? There is much controversy in the West about the use of plant medicine for spiritual healing, particularly a plant like Ayahuasca that is said to heal the body and the soul. Our tendency is to put our faith in what can be proven and measured, so we may determine whether or not it is safe, and thus how effective it will be. So here we have a healing tool that cannot be quantified, where in order to make use of its ‘medicine’ we must let go of control, entering into a realm that holds the essence of all we have avoided within ourselves. Not an easy feat for many. It’s a primitive instinct to fear or judge what we do not know or understand. This is true, in particular, to the aspects of ourselves that are unhealed, unresolved and in pain. I call this judgmental nature the ‘liar’ inside, as it does not derive from truth. It is sourced in fear, period. If we want to touch on the truth of our souls, we cannot get there through following a path of fear. We must look at what this fear is, and see it for what it is, for it to no longer hold power over us. Our society is set up on the premise that outside authority or substances shall resolve our internal issues. We have psychiatrists/psychologists for our mental/emotional health, doctors for our physical bodies and ministers/priests/gurus for our spiritual needs. We use ‘acceptable’ pharmaceuticals or alcohol to numb ourselves to our feelings and purchase any and everything we can to make ourselves ‘feel’ better. But is it working?

of the Divine within. It helps you to remember you’re not a victim to any experience, but rather came here to learn lessons to aid your evolution. You have to be willing to look at the parts of yourself that get in the way, fearlessly. These fears will cause you to throw up, as it is a purgative medicine and this is one of the ways it helps you to release. It’s up to you to follow through and make the choices and changes that align with your authentic self. This is why the answer is yes and no. If you have an expectation that Ayahuasca will fix your life for you, the answer is no. If you are willing to dive deeply into your soul and put your faith in the light you find therein, the answer is yes.

My personal experience with Ayahuasca stems solely from ceremonies held in the Amazon of Peru, where I believe the soul of the jungle is an integral component in its healing power. It’s one of many methods that leads to spiritual liberation, teaching us to let go of our perspective of who we are and what the world is to allow for the greater picture of possibility to shine through.

If you are interested in journeying with me to the Amazon this fall, contact me for more information. Could a plant like Ayahuasca be a solution to the spiritual starvation of our culture? Is it possible for a plant to heal both body and soul? It is, after all, a substance that alters consciousness… is this just another way of seeking an external solution? The answer to these questions is yes and no. The fact of the matter is that Ayahuasca is a tool which takes you deep into your own consciousness guiding you to see (literally through visions) that you hold the source www.MosaicMagazine.ca

High-achievers in careers they don't love Think back to yourself in school days. If you were ambitious academically, there were only a few directions that you’d likely evolve towards after high school: lawyer, engineer, doctor, nurse or teacher/professor. As a high-achiever you were seeking a path that would lead to success, recognize your talents and serve the world in a great way. At the time, it seemed natural for you to flow into one of these default professions and yet, in most cases, you were setting foot on an unfulfilling career path. And here’s why… It’s not your calling. The right reason to follow a path in engineering, law, medicine or teaching is because you feel a genuine ‘call’ towards it. Something about that path speaks to your mind and heart. Following that path quenches a deeply held desire within you. This is not the case for most achievers I meet. No, they ended up following their path because it was the only possibility they were aware of that seemed like it would a) make good use of their talents, abilities, energies and intelligence, b) lead them to success and c) allow them to make a big difference in the world. Unfortunately, choosing a path that doesn’t honour one’s true genius means that many professionals end up feeling dissatisfied with their success in their careers. No matter how successful they seem, their career isn’t true to their heart’s calling.

The first step is to see that you will never be able to leave your success behind. You created your corporate success in the first place because of your talents, creativity, problemsolving abilities and tenacity. These very same qualities are what will dovetail your current success into success in your own venture. You have what it takes. Next, explore your unique genius and build your dream. I’ve helped many bright leaders in the corporate world transition to doing their own thing and in most cases, it happens gradually. There’s no need to rush. Now it’s time to strengthen your vision, get clear on what you want and to make the dream so real that eventually leaving your corporate position is simply a natural next step.

by Karen Evelyn Advisor to Accomplished Leaders

One of my clients who was successful as an economic analyst in the provincial government, discovered her genius, built up her dream and was so excited by it that she left her position within eight months. She has nearly replaced her income within her first year of business. More importantly, she spends tons of extra time with her husband and threeyear-old daughter, goes on more vacations and is happier than ever!

You are a genius. You were born to follow your heart’s calling. If your corporate career is no longer satisfying your heart’s call to serve a larger purpose, it’s time to pay attention. You may be noticing heaviness in your heart or you may doubt your own bright ideas about what you could do next. Either way, it’s time to loosen your tie, take off your jacket and give yourself some breathing room to explore. When you say “Yes!” to your calling, life says “Yes!” to you. Karen Evelyn shows Corporate Leaders who have a bright idea to do their own thing, how to free their time, unleash their heart’s generosity and create a real, thriving venture of their own! Reach out to her at karen@liveyourgenius.com or 1-888-807-3452, ext. 2.

More and more, I see accomplished professionals who are drawn to doing their own thing. They want to free their time to be with family and loved ones. Their heart is aching to share its full generosity outside of the corporate world. If that’s you (or like someone you know), then here’s my best advice on how to move forward. The idea of leaving behind your corporate success to do your own thing can seem so daunting that you may hesitate to take your own bright ideas seriously.

Individuals of balance A year has come and gone since the winter solstice of 2012. 2013 was the year that saw the rising of the negative aspects of ‘old energy’ for clearing. Hidden and secret things became and continue to become known. No more secrets! These negative aspects included the unbridled powers of patriarchy, fear, oppression, deception, enslavement, control, horror, war, lack and imbalance of thousands of years. 2013 opened up possibilities filled with bright potential - those that will enable the creation of a world with balance. 2014 is a year of initiating and implementing balance, of testing out whether we can truly become the change we wish to see in the world. It begins with each one of us. As the vibrations of the sun’s recently shifted poles spread across the cosmos (http://rt.com/news/sunupside-down-flip-990), and the Universe continues to evolve and change, for the first time we can each now really choose how to make changes in our own worlds. To create a world of balance, one which honors life, joy, respect, integrity, love, creativity and abundance, we each must start by identifying and correcting areas of imbalance. In my healing practice now, I work with men and women who have experienced a subtle but growing awareness that there is MORE. The ‘more’ they are just beginning to anticipate is an increased feeling of selfhood and wholeness. This feeling is waiting to be experienced, as they correct the skewed wobble of the spinning top (their ‘old energy’ world) and discover the sensation of balance as their new world spins straight, strong and true. Healing their imbalance is painless and quick and lets them become ‘the MORE’ they truly are.

human body, either male or female. Gender, on the other hand, is associated with the expression of masculine or feminine traits. As the oriental yin/yang symbol so clearly shows, both are present in each sex, represented by the contrasting ‘eye’ in the ‘tadpole’. It is also worthwhile to note that the forms of both are not rigid but curved and flowing. Cited feminine characteristics include: nurturing, emotional, graceful, flowing, radiant, receptive, sensitive, empathic, gentle, attentive, creative, collaborative, respectful and kind. Cited masculine traits include: focused, logical, confident, courageous, stable, passionate, strong, competitive, aggressive, independent, active, honest, intellectual, protective and rational.

by Kimberlay Kiernan RN, CCH, CRHP, CLC

There is an interesting phenomenon here. We all know members of both sexes that exhibit these qualities. The numbers of individuals who do so are increasing exponentially. We can finally acknowledge that to ascribe the traits to either sex is a case of gender bias. That too is ‘old energy’. In fact, the expression of formerly mislabeled feminine or masculine gender traits is a matter of choice for each person. The labeling is vanishing.

Balance becomes the desired norm. Those pursuing healing of imbalance step into wholeness. And it is the whole and complete human who builds a whole, complete and balanced new world. There has been much fear around the re-emergence of the Divine Feminine and the growing re-empowerment of women as they rediscover and embody their strengths. The Divine Masculine is not being replaced; it is finally being balanced by its counterpart. There is much confusion about what is feminine and what is masculine and about the difference between sex and gender. Sex is associated with the construct of the www.MosaicMagazine.ca

Personal growth through Chakra Balancing by Jackie Pearce Wholistic Practitioner Often when people are feeling that they would like to create change in their lives, they find it can be quite difficult. Some know what they want or at the very least know what they don’t want more of. Perhaps some shifts and progress are made, but it often isn’t quite enough. People can find that they slip back into old patterns or notice that those around them refuse to acknowledge that they have changed and are different. These results often leave people feeling confused and unsure if their desire for change is for the better. What causes this? In most cases what is happening is that energetically your vibration is shifting but it is missing a full commitment. This can be caused from a number of

things, one of which is your physical body and consciousness may not be shifting at the same rate as your energetic body. This can cause you to revisit old behaviours and patterns, to feel a tug of war within yourself, unsure if you should move forward and yet hesitant to stay where you are. Often anger and frustration surface as well. How does one work through this? I’ve had a lot of successes utilizing Chakra Balancing with clients in these situations. Chakra Balancing offers a very unique opportunity to work through the energetic system to the physical body, while if needed it is possible to work from the physical level into the energetic. They are intertwined, a network that represents different elements of yourself and depending on what is needed in the moment, Chakra Balancing can support that process. Chakra Balancing offers your energetic system a multitude of support. Through the use of crystals to amplify energy and create an energetic support for lower energy areas in your body, your energetic system can relax and melt into the space of your session, feeling nurtured and knowing it is being offered energy to heal and rest. Sound and colour are aspects of the universal language of energy. By incorporating these frequencies into your sessions, many clients are more easily able to let go and return to their own energetic source energy. When this state is achieved you are no longer in a conscious mind frame; you become quiet and still on the physical level of being. This allows for expansion energetically. In this state of expansion we begin to explore your very core energetic body.

Marvel © Maria Pace-Wynters — mariapacewynters.com

This is where the magic happens. In this altered state of consciousness clients are able to let go of trauma, beliefs, pain, emotions and the like - with gentleness, ease and grace. Without the conscious mind chattering away and offering distractions and obstacles we can flow so easily in the energetic matrix of your being. This allows for release as well as a great platform to build your new reality from. At this point clients are often able to release old energy and beliefs that no longer serve them. That old energy is what keeps your vibration where it is and prevents you from being who you want to be and who you can be. When clients are in this energetic space they often see images, hear voices or re-live experiences that were significant for them. In this process, they are shedding the superficial layers and allowing their energetic body an opportunity to communicate; this is where so many insights and answers tend to come from. In this state of bliss and purity you are able to be objective, feel supported and safe. It’s a space where you know you’re being taken care of and are well

looked after. This provides an energetic space to receive regeneration on an energetic and cellular level, to receive clarity and profound shifts in frequency and thus vibration. Using breath and visualization techniques further deepens the experience for the client. I will guide you through the process and facilitate your session with ease and grace. If energy is seeking release through your body, techniques can be employed to further aid this release and shift within your system. We work together as a team. It is vitally important that the client be aware and engaged throughout their session. This is how you are empowered and able to take control of what you wish to manifest into or out of your life. This is facilitation in a very pure and dynamic form of energetic work. Chakra Balancing is not about me fixing you, removing energy and patching you up. It is a sacred journey and process where clients gain deeper awareness about their energetic and physical body as well as the relationship between those two fields. As your awareness increases so will the benefits of your sessions. From feeling more energetic and having a better attitude about the world around you, to perhaps noticing how much more in control you are, that you do always have choice and maybe now the courage and understanding needed to make those choices. With Chakra Balancing it is entirely up to you, the client, how far down the rabbit hole we go. Some people come once and receive enough benefit that they never return, while others come for multiple sessions in order to truly release and find the growth they were seeking. Others will come for a specific reason (which we work through) and then they choose to go beyond, to seek an even deeper truth and understanding of themselves. They know that they can take their journey with me as far and for as long as they wish and it is truly amazing the shifts, transformations and changes clients make. The more you put into your sessions and homework, most certainly the more you will receive. It is truly a great gift to offer yourself. Once you feel you are at your optimal place to be, it’s simply about maintenance and coming when you feel you need to. A world of possibility and growth awaits clients seeking Chakra Balance sessions. Although each person is unique and all sessions are intuitively facilitated to ensure that you are getting exactly what you need, there is no protocol or set system. I follow my intuition and use my natural gifts to facilitate your session. Books We Love by Linda Perry How to Heal a Grieving Heart by Doreen Virtue and James Van Praagh (Hay House, 2013) is a beautiful, colourful book that provides practical and spiritual help to those who have lost loved ones. It has never been needed more than this past year as it seems more than ever people have needed support, understanding, caring and comfort. There have been a lot of people in my life who have lost loved ones, including myself. Both Virtue and Van Praagh have had years of experience with grief counseling and this book, along with the accompanying deck of cards, provides a source of help. Opening this book to a random page allows you to meditate on the positive message, to start to understand the transitional process and remember that our loved ones are still with us in some form. It helps the reader know there are a lot of other people out there going through the same process and that you are not alone. We all need help through a grieving process and this book does just that. Keep it close at hand for a source of inspiration and comfort. It also makes a wonderful gift for a grieving friend. Linda has worked with crystals for 17 years, owns Soul Food Books Etc. by Adele Goodwin As my 14-year-old daughter and I browsed through the beautiful selection at Ascendant Books looking for a great read for this book review, she insisted that we choose it by its cover and not read anything about it! So that is how we chose Bringers of the Dawn - Teachings from the Pleiadians by Barbara Marciniak (Inner Traditions/Bear & Company 1992). Imagine my surprise when every chapter seemed to be written just for me, just last week. It was like having a wise elder sitting beside me confirming my life choices, encouraging me to follow my deepest knowing and painting a bigger picture of what is possible. Every page answered questions and brought ‘ahas’ about things like crystals, sound, nourishment, partnership, sex, living in community, simplicity, harmony, stewardship of the Earth, creativity, vitality, emotions and purpose. “We ask you to hear the call, to recognize it, to step forward as a member of the Family of Light. Live the light you know you are, to discover in the simplicity of your being the purpose of your existence, to blossom with it and to reseed this place that is Planet Earth in its time of deepest transition.” Thank you to my ‘daughter of light’ for her guidance in selecting this book! It examines their current relationship with food and weaves their stories into each secret. Esoteric Explorations

Becoming a lover with the heart chakra The heart acts like a bridge between the lower chakras and the upper chakras. Usually when people think of the heart chakra they connect it to romantic love. But romantic love is often based on our needs and desires being met which falls under the domain of the lower three chakras. When our awareness is based in the lower chakras we learn through suffering which creates tension, which in turn promotes growth in order to stop the suffering. As we become more heart centered we begin to give up our attraction to suffering. This doesn’t mean that we disown our more difficult emotions. Instead we allow ourselves to experience the emotion fully and then move along (rather than allowing our emotions to fester and poison ourselves and others). It is thought that the path to the heart takes the longest time and is the hardest one to reach. Our heart journey starts with forgiveness towards self and others for past misdeeds and mistakes, acceptance of our state of imperfection and then expands further to the idea of our divinity. A person learning lessons of the heart begins to understand that there is no ‘us and them’ and that on some level we impact and are impacted by everyone and everything. Only at the heart do we start to comprehend that we are not alone and never have been. Here we begin to experience ourselves as a piece of a web that connects all things.

Throughout the ages countless sages and mystics have written about the heart journey - their message being that one day love comes and it doesn’t leave. When finally love stays and the heart fully opens we then become the ‘Lover’. HOMEWORK - If you want a ‘how to’ manual to open the heart, use this Buddhist prayer. Don’t just say it; feel and live it and you will be on the fast track to the heart. Do it for 28 days and repeat as needed. Following is a condensed version. My heart is filled with loving kindness, may I be happy, may I be peaceful. May my family be happy, may they be peaceful. May my friends be happy, may they be peaceful. May my enemies be happy, may they be peaceful. May all sentient beings be happy, may they be peaceful. If I have harmed you in any way, intentionally or unintentionally, through my thoughts, words or deeds, I ask your forgiveness. If you have harmed me in any way, intentionally or unintentionally, through your thoughts words or deeds I offer my forgiveness. My heart is filled with loving kindness, may I be happy, may I be peaceful. Perfect © Doris Charest — www.dorischarest.com

How do we know if we are moving forward on the heart path? Here are some indications: • A willingness to drop our shields, pretenses and defenses. • Acceptance, that although we and others are imperfect, we deserve love. • A willingness to stop putting ourselves and others in a position of rightness/wrongness or superiority/inferiority. • When our desire to experience love outweighs our desire to hold onto our bitterness, resentments and grudges. When any of the above happens we take a step towards openheartedness. Eventually these steps lead us towards an inner state of harmony and happiness. www.MosaicMagazine.ca

Places I Love

Atlantis is a water lover's dream by Connie Brisson Whenever I’ve heard the word ‘Atlantis’, I used to think of the lost advanced civilization that Plato famously wrote about many centuries ago. But not anymore… Now I think of the Bahamas. Actually it was the ancient civilization of Atlantis that inspired South African hotel magnate, Sol Kerzner, to create a world class waterpark, casino and golf resort on Paradise Island, just east of Nassau, Bahamas. He spent more than $800 million to bring to life the myth and legend of the lost city of Atlantis. When we were looking for somewhere unique to go over Christmas, this resort came up (as a package through West Jet). We decided to try it out because it is famous for its water activities. Aquaventure (the name of their waterpark) is one of the largest water themed attractions in the world, with a one-of-akind 141-acre water park (with over 20 million gallons of water), featuring highspeed water slides, river tube rides and 20 swimming areas. One of the waterslides even propelled us (through a clear acrylic tunnel) through a lagoon filled with sharks. However, I have to say that ‘The Current’ (a mile-long river ride in inner tubes via water escalators, rolling waves and extreme rapids) was the MOST fun. This was our favorite ride - it was just the right amount of danger and bliss. While Gabbey and I managed to stay on our tubes, Marcel capsized a couple of times and came home with a few Atlantean scars as souvenirs. The other water part of Atlantis that I loved was all the marine life. It has the world’s largest open-air marine environment, home to 50,000 sea creatures representing 200 species. A series of aquariums located beneath the lobby of the Royal Towers (called ‘The Dig’) holds hundreds of different aquatic species including angelfish, sharks, manta rays (one of which is larger than 10'), sea horses, various types of jellyfish and more. There is also a 14 acre dolphin habitat where you can interact and swim with the dolphins.

26

Mosaic Magazine — Spring 2014

This resort is huge (171 acres, with three miles of beach front) and consists of six different hotels (3,400 rooms), ranging in price and luxury. The most famous and expensive room of the resort is the Bridge Suite which is part of the Royal Towers Bridge. It has a special suite that sells for $25,000 per night with a four night minimum stay. It was already booked ☺ so we humbly stayed in the Beach Towers (the cheapest of the hotels) and while the rooms were not fancy, they were clean and just fine. The resort also has a marina designed to dock large yachts (some yachts were two times bigger than my house!). There’s a small shopping center too, featuring a variety of restaurants and stores. One shop had a pair of men’s swimming trunks for over $400 (they did have stingrays on them though maybe that accounted for the extra sting?) I have to say that eating in Atlantis was another sting - it was super expensive. We tried a few of their fine dining restaurants (Bahamian Club, Casa D’Angelo, Seafire Steakhouse) and ouch, the entrees were between $40 - $60 each, with a side of vegetable or potato for another $9. I guess that when you’re in a mythical place, mythical prices can also be charged. The other thing is that they automatically add 15% service charge to any food or beverage anywhere on the resort, even a coffee at Starbucks. We did venture into Nassau, for almost $20 cab ride each way, to eat at what the locals called the Fish Fry - an area of local restaurants and bars. We ate at Twin Brothers and after an hour wait, got a complimentary order of conch fritters (because they were so far behind in their orders). I have to say they were kind of yummy! Conch are a big deal in the Bahamas. Almost every restaurant had something with conch on it - even Quiznos had a conch chowder (instead of a clam chowder). All in all, we had a wonderful time in Atlantis. We’ve been to other hot places in winter, but Atlantis is really in a league of its own. And if the Bahamas isn’t exotic enough for you, there’s another Atlantis in Dubai! You can learn more about both at www.atlantis.com

My journey through a painting by Jayna Simpson

As I stroke bright blue on the canvas my throat chakra opens. I am learning to find my voice and speak my truth. While adding soft green highlights, a warm sensation flows through my heart chakra and I am reminded to be gentle and compassionate.

Spiritual Friend © Jayna Simpson

While I continue to work the art begins to resonate with a primary healing energy. As I gaze at the shapes and colours I feel or hear the accompanying words, perhaps Divine Feminine, Patience, Aphrodisiac or Purity. The piece has revealed its name and its purpose to me. This name affirms to me what is being nurtured in my soul and cultivated in my life.

Light Within © Jayna Simpson

As I mix a rich deep red on my palette, I feel the empowerment I’ve been seeking within my root chakra. I sense the healing energy of the colour red grounding me... I am safe, I belong.

When this painting is finished it becomes a mirror. What you see in it is a reflection of yourself. If you notice qualities of beauty, brightness, kindness, peace, joy, intensity, sensuality... those same qualities in yourself are recognizing their match. It is you, your eyes, your aura that make the art what it is. If it is thought to be lovely, you are witnessing your own inner beauty and adding your energy to the art. With each painting I discover who I am, how I am growing, becoming brighter, bolder, wiser, more embracing of my flaws and challenges, more connected to Spirit, more lovely, more myself.

Empowerment versus victimization by Bill McDonald I wrote an article for Mosaic a while ago, that was entitled: “A Different View of Spirituality.” New age spirituality, for the most part, is credited to being started by the teachings of H.P. Blavatsky and her students, Alice Bailey and Annie Wood Besant, although teachings of Hermes Trismegistus have been explored and debated since the second century (his best known student was Isaac Newton, who was widely criticized for wasting his time on that spiritual stuff). As Newton is widely acclaimed as one of the greatest minds to have ever lived, I find that amusing. These teaching are all about one thing, self-empowerment. Recent new New Age information is about victimization and about some outside energy or entity coming to save us. The teachings from the ladies (Blavatsky, Bailey and Besant; I will call them the three B’s,) on the other hand stated that we are here to evolve based on our own experiences and efforts. We are in school and this school is hard because the rewards are great.

other DNA (that resides in cells) has many attachments called inhibitors and promoters, which regulate gene expression. The field around each strand of DNA is different due to the field of these ‘add ons’. Our soul, which is a small portion of us as a monad, uses a physical body only while on this plane and we have had many, both male and female bodies, on our journey. The Ascended Masters have all lived on this planet as humans just like us and they are us, on a higher level, and do NOT have DNA. They and the archangels do not intervene directly in our evolution. Any information given by them to your local channel or psychic would only retard your progress. Many of these people are sincere in what they think they are connecting to. Sylvia Brown’s expose on CNN has brought clairvoyance to a new low in the minds of the general public. Further research about her appearances on a television show called Montel, showed that in her many

The three B’s stated that through our evolution, science will come to know and research spirituality and the human soul.

Many prominent new newagers pointed to December 2012 as a great shift or arrival of a new energy. One prominent new New Ager’s statement, that the planet is going to stop revolving in one direction and turn and revolve the other way (and that this has happened twice in the last 11,500 years), makes modern science look at spirituality in a very poor light and makes any statements made by this person subject to ridicule. Many more statements made by this person are easily observed to be false. Another claim, out there, is that our DNA ties us to higher dimensions, which seems strange when we know that our DNA is 99% the same as a chimpanzee. Our only pure DNA resides in stem cells and is called undifferentiated. All

predictions she was never once right and many times completely wrong. How do you think those misinformed families feel? So “where does most channeled information come from?” is what you need to ask yourself. St. Germaine is a favourite of new New Agers but that is not the name he is known by (by other Masters) according to the books. There is much talk of vibration and raising your vibration and the human aura. Many books claim that the activity of the chakras determines one’s level of vibration and the size of the aura, and this is measurable by different forms of dowsing and some students of Master Choa Kok Sui (founder and originator of the Pranic Healing® and Arhatic Yoga® System) could feel his aura over two kilometers away. The seven main chakras have seven levels or planes and they become active as we evolve. The opening of these higher levels determines our ability to connect to the higher beings and higher information. These energies have always been here but our own evolution determines our access to them. Many beings have ascended and will continue to ascend based on their own merit, with or without ever having heard of any of the 3B’s; that is not a requirement. I have had a number of mystical experiences over the last 15 years and, as I’m a somewhat skeptical person, I have to have confirmation of an event to believe it. In 2004, while attending my first retreat at a YMCA camp in Sooke, BC, a five foot tall, shimmering being walked across the floor of the camp’s great hall and sat on a chair. I was shocked, as I never had that kind of experience before. But to confirm what I thought I was seeing, I turned my back to the being and while facing away, I asked a person known to be clairvoyant if she saw something. She looked past me and immediately said: “Look, there is a man sitting in that chair.” I turned to see where she was pointing and she was pointing at the correct chair (which was one of about 50 in an arc across the room of several thousand square feet). This being was Master Mike Nater, who had died several years before. He was one of the three clairvoyants Master Choa used to independently confirm, energetically, the Pranic Healing effects on the human body. I learned (last October from a student of both Master Nater and Master Choa) that Master Nater had a mystery school and was a direct student of Djwhal Khul, the Tibetan. That experience was the first of many (not direct information, just experiences) for me to interpret on my own, although sometimes there were other people present who I used to independently confirm the experience. Master Choa and Master Nater were very close and held similar belief systems. Master Choa’s suggested reading list for students included the writings of Alice Bailey and Annie Wood Besant and I have discovered many things taught in Pranic Healing in those books.

www.MosaicMagazine.ca

A number of years ago Master Choa died and I was somewhat distressed when I tried to use his name in an invocation and was not allowed to do so. Several months later one of the other students came to me and said she was not allowed to use his name either. Sometime later I read in Bailey, Besant and Yogi Ramacharka books about devachan, which explained many things about death. A few years later while driving I had a profound experience in which I felt a presence in my vehicle with me. I was told it was Master Choa. Two days later at a meditation, the same student came early and said to me that Master Choa was back and was teaching her. This was a private conversation that was not repeated at the meditation. But after the meditation another student came to me and said: “You know that Master Choa guy? He showed up this week and is teaching me.” So, what was he teaching... the Great Invocation and the twin hearts meditation, among other things. These experiences and several others, which I found explanations for in the 3B’s books after the events, have guided me on my path for truth. The Masters become belittled in the eyes of the general public by the channelings of people whose main objective is to sell books and courses. With Masters of ‘this and that’ everywhere, the term Master is taking a beating and will continue as these charlatans expose themselves. Unfortunately serious students are lumped with the uniformed, who believe whatever they are told or read. You are the master of your fate and unless you use intelligent discernment, you will remain a victim. Two words keep coming to me that need to be addressed, pity and pride - the self-pity of the “I am a victim of some conspiracy” and the pride of “I am highly evolved and am chosen by some higher power.” If the only person that can totally fix someone is themselves, then maybe these ‘highly evolved people’ are also victims, victims of their own egos. The best healing system is the placebo effect, whose effects are now accounted for in double blind clinical drug trials. Many new New Agers make statements which completely contradict just about everything ever written about the mysteries - a path to enlightenment. Yet they claim access to the Masters (who state in all the 3B’s books) that they do not directly interfere or intervene in the life path of students. The path is not some weekend course as I’ve seen advertised, nor can it be had just by asking. Nowadays conspiracy theories abound and talk about zero point and scalar energy continues even though debunked by modern science. On a positive note the teachings of Eckhart Tolle, if properly followed, will greatly facilitate true evolution along the path. I have stated before that I am a student, as are you and not a teacher. I don’t sell anything and this article is just about truth. My email address is macwk@shaw.ca and I am open to hearing other points of view. Spring 2014 — Mosaic Magazine

(Italian) With heart and soul

Learning to honor ourselves My Mom was one of the most generous and kindest people I’ve ever known. She would give you anything that she had. She enjoyed going on senior gambling trips and once, when she was in Saskatchewan in a casino playing on a machine with a tub full of quarters at her side, someone beside her started taking coins from her. Most people would have looked up and stopped the person, but not my Mom. Instead she just ignored the person and kept on playing. Well, the mystery person turned out to be her sister from Calgary, who coincidentally just happened to be there (on a different senior’s trip). Of course when my Mom saw that it was her sister, the two of them had a great laugh. When we heard the story later, I asked Mom why she had not done anything and she just shrugged and said: “Well, I thought that if someone needed the money that bad, they could have it.” That was my Mom. I saw this quality in her as nothing short of saintly and a high virtue to try live up to. At her funeral, however, one of my brothers said something that made me realize how we all see the same things differently. He said that my Mom treated everyone like they were kings, always in service of others, because she felt that everyone was much more important than her (so she didn’t often consider her own needs). It surprised me because I had not ever viewed her generosity in that way. But, afterwards, I saw that both our versions held some truth. We all grow up learning that it is good to give, be kind, generous and helpful. But no one tells us how to do it with balance and still be true to ourselves. I learned this years ago after I’d gone for my second invitro. After I came home, I felt great. A few weeks later a friend of mine was having a product home party. I really didn’t feel good that evening, but I forced myself to go because I thought that it was really important to support her. When I got to her place, there were 30 people there (but then, I didn’t want to be rude and just leave either). Then by the time I got home that night, I could tell that something was

not right and, afterwards, I knew that night was the turning point for the pregnancy. When I later found out that I was no longer pregnant, I was devastated and so angry at myself for not honoring myself first that night. Would it have made a difference? I’ll never know. It was a very hard lesson. We’re all taught that taking care of ourselves first is selfish, especially if we are women, although we’re all socialized to please others. Part of our self-worth comes directly from our degree of self-sacrifice. When we love others, it’s natural to want to help them and put their needs above ours.

A Soft Spirit © Jayna Simpson

by Connie Brisson

When I was first introduced to the idea that it was alright (actually, crucial) for everyone, including me, to follow my heart and do what I wanted and what felt right for me first, before what anyone else thought or wanted, it felt like sheer blasphemy. I thought the gods would send thunderbolts.

But then it started to make sense to me. If we’re all here to evolve, to become the highest versions of ourselves, how can we ever do that if we are busy spending most of our time focusing outside of ourselves, on the desires/needs of others? If each one of us is an important thread in the fabric of life, then it’s important for me to be completely me and for you to be completely you. When we’re trying to please someone else, then we’ve really stepped off our truth/path and entered onto someone else’s soul path. You or I can never be what someone else ‘needs’ us to be. It will never, ever work. How do we know when we are on our soul’s path? When we feel/look inside, ask: “What do I feel is the right thing for me in this moment?” and then move in that direction. If our decision makes us feel brighter inside, happier, more alive, then we are honoring ourselves. If we could all get to a place where we could each honor what is right for us, we wouldn’t judge others and get angry about other people’s choices. We would understand how crucial it is for each of us to follow our hearts. I wonder who my Mom would have been if she would have honored herself and her dreams first. I just can’t help but wonder what other gifts I would also have learned from her if she had the chance to really shine her light… I’ll never know. www.MosaicMagazine.ca
