In this Mosaic… our lives easier and better? New ways, new energies, new ideas come to us all the time, but it is up to us whether we embrace them or stay stuck in our old ways. This cover of Mosaic by Carol Collin says: “Embrace Change.” I thought it was timely because we are all going through personal changes and also a lot of uncomfortable changes in our economy.
boccabellaphoto.com
Many of us follow in the steps of our parents and peers, repeating patterns that we’re familiar/comfortable with, both consciously and unconsciously. But, I now know that change (the ability to alter courses and choose a better way) is what sets apart successful people from those that implode on themselves. And I know that because I’ve done both… Time is a teacher and looking back I see that ‘change’ has interestingly been more my friend, than my foe. And I’ve observed that the people who are willing to change (and grow spiritually) are also the same people who end up doing well in life.
by Connie Brisson I’m a fairly practical person. I’ve worked for everything I have in my life and therefore, I don’t instantly buy every new thing or technology that comes out. In fact, I confess that we’ve had a 10 year old TV that weighed more than me (bless it for that, at least). And I was pretty happy with it, not knowing any better. But this Christmas, Marcel said we should get a new TV. He’d been watching hockey in HD at a friend’s place and couldn’t believe what a difference it made. So, after Santa delivered our new TV, we had our cable provider switch everything over to include HD and, as a by-product, that included PVR (personal video recorder). And that was when I surprisingly realized that PVRs are a gift from the gods. With a PVR, I finally get to see ALL the shows I really want to. There are a few shows that I enjoy and I used to purposely look ahead to see when they would be on and then coordinate my life around them. Sometimes that was difficult. Now I record the shows that I love and then, when I have time, I just sit down and enjoy them. It’s so wonderfully efficient. This is a simple example and it’s only a PVR, but it made me realize how I sometimes hang on to old patterns and ways of living because I don’t feel I have the energy or time to invest into changing something. But the irony is that when I do take the time to make changes, it often ends up freeing substantially more of my time and energy.
So now when I find myself in any kind of situation where I’m hurt or stuck, I earnestly seek a way, therapy, practitioner, crystal, mantra, etc., that helps me to change, heal and open up to a better way of life. It has been my experience that when I ask Spirit for help, I’m always shown the next step. Louise Hay, in her book You Can Heal Your Life (Hay House, 1999) gives a wonderful exercise with mirror work in regards to change. She says to look in a mirror and say to yourself: “I am willing to change.” Then notice how you feel and if you are hesitant or resistant, ask yourself why; what old beliefs are you holding onto? Noticing the beliefs that rise up and examining whether they are true or not, is key to being open to change. Read it in more detail: Chapter 6, Resistance to Change. Now I want to remind Mosaic readers about the new tarot article this issue by Skye MacLachlan. Please ask a question you want some guidance about, so that the information given about the tarot card can answer your question in some way or provide you with some insights that you may not have had otherwise. Because Skye was sick for the last Mystic Meeting (where the topic was asking your personal questions and receiving an answer from tarot cards explained by her), we are rescheduling it to Wednesday, March 9, from 7:00 – 9:30 p.m., at the Lucina Centre, 9505 – 163 Street, Edmonton. The cost is $20 cash at the door and please bring a gift wrapped book (with a mind/body/spirit theme) for a book exchange. RSVP by March 8 to mosaicmagazine@ shaw.ca if you can come. Hope to see you there!

Overwhelmed housewife? At the time of this writing, the Christmas season has just ended (oh wait, there is one more party on the 10th!), the deadline for this article looms, another project that I’m working on is also due AND most of my regular patients want to be seen NOW because they avoided health care during the holiday season. Yep, I’m feeling a tad overwhelmed; how about you? I’d been wondering how I was going to get all of my responsibilities handled in a timely fashion and I guess I was a little irritable (or a lot, as my partner lovingly pointed out!) Plus I still didn’t have a topic in mind. So he asked me: “What remedy have you been giving patients the most lately?” It was a brilliant question! The answer was Sepia… and when you look up Sepia in many of the old homeopathy books it says: “Overwhelmed Housewife!” Women needing Sepia are often difficult to be around because they can’t control their anger and the least thing will set them off. But this is interesting… they usually feel really bad after they’ve been cruel to their loved ones - yet they just can’t help themselves! Often there can be weeping for no discernable reason, coupled with sarcasm and irritability, especially if they’re trying to get something done (like make dinner) when there are too many distractions. But it is also THE remedy to consider for overwhelm. You see all disease states bring with them a gift. The father of homeopathy (Samuel Hahnemann) taught: “Disease is the cure for what ails you!”
planned to live. And his diagnosis came during the busy Christmas holiday season too! A few weeks later, my own practitioner prescribed Sepia for me. Years later in my first year of practice, Sepia and I met again in a pregnant woman who came to see me because she was in a ‘frenzy’ trying to manage her life and her pregnancy. While this was her first child, she took care of her nephew most weekends and she had a business with her husband. It was her hubby who confirmed my suspicion of Sepia because he confided: “I love my wife, but I can’t stand to be around her any more. Will this get better or worse once the baby is here?” A Young Red Head in an Evening Dress © Denise Lefebvre
by Tammie Quick DMH, DHHP
And while my patient was having some physical symptoms too (left-sided headaches, nausea and vomiting, aversion of food odors, low back pain, itchy vaginal discharge and a bit of stress incontinence), she made sure that she went for a run every evening because she felt so much better physically and emotionally after intense physical exercise.
Sepia is a remedy to be thought of whenever symptoms become worse right around the menstrual cycle (think PMS) or during pregnancy, puberty or peri-menopause. Additionally it is well indicated whenever a woman hasn’t been well since taking the birth control pill or after a time of great stress. You could say it’s a very ‘hormonal’ remedy and you’d be right but that doesn’t mean that Sepia is just for women. I’ve had overwhelmed men whose families couldn’t stand to be around them anymore, in my clinic too! Tammie Quick, DMH, DHHP, practices Homeopathy and Heilkunst at the Quick Health Clinic in St. Albert, AB. Indeed, Sepia lights a fire under us so that we can muster the energy to handle whatever life is throwing at us. Once our families can’t stand to be around us anymore, it’s time to put the Sepia fire out; but before that, it is a blessing. I was formally introduced to Sepia when I was in my third year of school and my son was diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes. There were so many things to learn, do and worry about - none the least of which was to help him cope with a very real grief for the life he had

Chinese year of the Fire Monkey The Chinese lunar new year begins on February 8 and we welcome the Fire Monkey. We can sail through the upheaval of the Fire Monkey year if we learn to rely more strongly on our inner knowing, finding stability from within. Conversely, if we look for our strength in the outer world, expect a stressful year of change and insecurity. Water is the weakest element this year. For Alberta with its reliance on oil and gas (both are water element), this portends a year of continued weak prices. As well, there’s a very strong illness star that will impact many in the Fire Monkey year. Remember that the illness star also offers us the opportunity to adopt new and healthier habits, transforming poison into positive energy. Conflicting elements indicate conflict in the world and in personal relationships, and tumultuous weather patterns. However it’s also a year when heroes and peace makers will step forward and touch all of our hearts with their courage and strength. Here’s a brief look at the luck of each Chinese astrological animal in the year ahead. Monkey: This is a year of change for Monkeys. Avoid rushing into things. Move rationally one step at a time; be patient and calm. This is a positive time for personal development. Rooster: Avoid risky ventures and investments. Work may be stressful but promotions may also be offered. Take care of your health and adopt positive strategies to deal with stress.
couples to get married. You have an accident star impacting you so avoid all risky activities and generally adopt healthy habits. Ox: You have a strong Nobleman Star this year. This star offers mentors to assist you when difficulties arise. Singles, pay close attention to your circle of friends, as your future partner may already be very close to you. Be attentive to your health this year. Tiger: Lie low and be patient. This is an unstable year for Tigers. Keep communication lines open. Minor illness stars are present. Avoid fried foods. An accident star indicates that you should avoid heights and water sports. Rabbit: Your career outlook is very positive this year. Married couples need to take time to communicate. You are impacted by the accident star, so be careful when driving and avoid high risk activities. Rethinking © Maria Pace-Wynters
by Skye MacLachlan Feng Shui Consultant
Dragon: Money flows in easily but it also flows out; avoid gambling and budget carefully. Pay attention to your diet and avoid fried foods. Try to relax as much as you can. Snake: This is a smooth sailing year with plenty of blessings and kindness received from those around you. Pay attention to your health and avoid overworking and excessive alcohol.
Horse: This is a mixed year of good and bad luck. You may need to explore new streams of income. Health wise, you’re vulnerable to injuries of the limbs. Go slowly and be patient. Sheep: Money luck is strong but it comes and goes easily. You will attract good luck at the beginning and end of the year; the middle will have some obstacles to overcome. Make safety a priority as you’re impacted by the accident star this year. Many blessings of good fortune to each of you in the new year! Dog: You are impacted by the Sky Cry Star this year. This star brings feelings of anxiety and emotional turbulence. Don’t stuff your feelings; talk with those you trust. Meditation and walking will be a great help to your personal balance. Pig: This is an excellent year for business and career. You will finally profit from your hard work. Love is also positive this year. Take care to avoid injuries related to heat, fire, burns or getting scalded. Rat: If you are looking for love, this is an excellent year to meet someone special. The promise of a coming World Teacher Religious traditions down the ages have, without exception, embraced a solemn and mysterious spiritual law called “The Doctrine of Avatars” (Eastern traditions) or “The Doctrine of the Coming One” (Western traditions). This intriguing canon has persisted throughout time as the ultimate promise from ‘God’ to forever uphold and protect humanity and, when circumstances dictate, to send assistance in human form. At such times, when the world has ‘lost its way’ or fallen into darkness and immorality, great teachers – of the likes of a Buddha or Christ – enter into incarnation to re-establish the Way whereupon humanity can tread the ‘Path to Liberation’. “When there is a withering of the law and the uprising of lawlessness on all sides, then I manifest Myself. For the salvation of the righteous and the destruction of such as do evil, for the firm establishing of the Law, I come to birth Age after Age.” (The Bhagavad Gita) Such a time is now upon us and all major religions today anticipate the arrival of an ‘Awaited One’, a teacher whose return has been foretold in both the sacred texts of the world as well as demonstrated in the historical record of past divine incarnations. Today, Christians await the coming of the Christ, Jews expect the Messiah, while Muslims look for the Imam Mahdi. Hindus anticipate the return of Lord Krishna or the Kalki Avatar, and Buddhists expect the 5th Buddha, Maitreya. What these major traditions do not as yet realise is the simple truth that they all await the same one individual – a World Teacher, who fulfills their individual expectations and yet, as in previous ages, incarnates for the benefit of all humankind. So it has always been, and so it will be once again during this entrance into the Aquarian Age.
Krishnamurti and, more recently, Benjamin Creme – gave further testament to these ‘Masters of Wisdom’ and their imminent externalisation expected at this present time. This profound event – the full physical manifestation of this great ‘Kingdom of Souls’ out into modern society – will be heralded by the appearance of the World Teacher, the “Master of all the Masters,” who will bring humanity in closer rapport with the true spiritual constitution of our planet. The World Teacher is now here and gradually emerging into public awareness. Soon, it is expected, a world-wide economic collapse will bring humanity to a decisive point of crisis after which the World Teacher will come forward from within the ranks of ordinary people and publicly demonstrate his extraordinary grasp of the world’s problems. Exhibiting the qualities of great love, humility and inclusiveness, and without infringing upon the free will of humanity, he will present the world two alternative scenarios for the future – either continue in the selfish path of the present and destroy ourselves, or create a brilliant new civilisation through the principle of sharing. In his role as World Teacher, he will demonstrate to every individual the living fact of our shared divinity and, thus, re-establish the Way forward for all humanity. One Living Body © Bernadette McCormack

For nearly 150 years esotericists have reiterated this same idea of the coming World Teacher. As early as 1875, Helena P. Blavatsky introduced the fact of the ‘Spiritual Hierarchy’ on our planet – a kingdom above that of the human kingdom and inhabited by ‘Masters’ (men and women like us who have gone ahead on the evolutionary journey and achieved enlightenment or liberation), who work tirelessly from behind the scenes to stimulate and nurture the spiritual life of humanity. Boost your immune system On the fourth day of vacation this year, my partner started to feel nausea. I always take the Biofeedback device on holidays with me – it’s my medical insurance! So, I hooked him up immediately for a session focusing primarily on eliminating the nausea, releasing stress, plus doing detoxing and then balancing on blood, lymph, digestion and the immune boost programs. His nausea was gone in the first 10 minutes. He felt like himself again two hours later except a bit tired. Then about three hours later, I started feeling nauseated. I hooked myself up right away but too late; I threw up. I wasn’t fast enough to stop that initial nausea but got my partner to hook me up again right after. I felt like myself again within two hours but also a little tired. This food poisoning event made me aware, once again, of how very grateful I am for Biofeedback which is an extraordinary tool for health. I also was made aware again of my excellent immune health. I have had one cold for a few days only and no flu at all in 19 years. I attribute it to starting cleansing in 1997 with Colon Hydrotherapy and then Lymph Therapy, regularly, consistently. Plus reducing stress with Biofeedback prevents the immune weakness most of us have that is caused by a buildup of daily stress. I recovered in just two hours from food poisoning (not the normal two days) with no diarrhea, so I’ve got great gut flora too! I notice good immunity as a therapist also, when interacting with child and adult clients that are ill as I don’t ‘catch’ anything.
Simplified, your platelets, red and white blood cells (to fight infection/invaders) are produced in the bone marrow. These cells are then picked up by the blood as it flows through the bone marrow and then are distributed where they need to go for defense and other purposes. The lymph nodes act like filters and in working with the lymph vessels, they both are continuously exchanging substances between the blood and the tissues of the body to keep it healthy and free of pathogens that can harm you or make you ill, including cancer cells. It continuously filters out the bad stuff and returns the good stuff back to the blood system.

A clean, smooth flowing, lymph system is an absolute necessity especially as we age also. Peyer’s patches (surveillance system for good and bad bacteria population in the gut) are lymph tissues located in the gut. The amount you have begin to decrease in your early twenties. Stress weakens immunity immensely due to causing contraction on EVERY level in the body but especially in the gut, whether you feel it or not. It prevents healthy elimination plus restricts lymph flow in the body. Ever feel your gut tighten when you are around someone that is triggering you?
It just made sense to me when I first started investigating how to improve and maintain natural, vibrant health for myself and then clients, that the gut and lymph were and still are primary. The “Immune System” is not really a separate system. Strong immune health depends on a combination of organs and parts of other systems (mainly the Lymphatic System) already in place in the body working synergistically on several levels to keep you healthy and protected from non-self pathogens, bacteria, infection, virus, fungi, foreign particles, parasites, toxins and yes, even cancer cells. The thymus, spleen, tonsils, bone marrow, lymph nodes, lymph vessels and peyer’s patches are the primary players in immune health. These are ALL part of your Lymphatic System. Plus your blood and gut are part of your immune synergistic team.

The original method of facial reflexology, Dien Chan, began in 1975. Dr. Professor Bùi Quôc Châu, began his ambitious work following the Vietnam war, gathering evidence to support his idea that the entire body and its systems are reflected on the face. To confirm his theory, Professor Châu used only touch or simple reflex tools, to treat thousands of patients and thus facial reflexology was born. Rid yourself of allergies Hay fever and allergic reactions to pollen, cats, dogs or peanuts — these are all way more common today than in the past. But what if your immune system is not the bad guy? One person in every three has some form of allergy. This might show up as hay fever in the spring, congested airways when around cats and dogs or maybe headaches from a whiff of gasoline or perfume. People often simply put up with their allergies by avoiding the particular allergen that troubles them. But avoidance is not a sign of health. An allergy is a reaction by your immune system. The physical symptoms like redness, swelling, runny nose and itchy eyes are evidence of your immune system working to protect you from a perceived danger: the allergen. Your body is doing its very best to push the allergen out of your body and neutralize its effect inside your body. Remember that your body is amazing! The medical system addresses allergies from the perspective that the immune system is malfunctioning. You take anti-histamine drugs that suppress the release of histamines without addressing the underlying cause. This means that you have to rely on anti-histamine drugs forever. But let’s look at allergies from a different angle. Have you ever heard about people with multiple personalities? These cases are interesting because they have shown that one personality may have allergies while the other personality may not, even though they share the same physical body and the same immune system! This tells us that you must address the subconscious mind to rid yourself of allergies.
works to destroy the pollen. The battleground of your body gets red and swollen. However, while the pollen is actually innocuous, it is the attack by your immune system that causes problems. And it was all because the radar mistook the pollen for something dangerous. My approach is to teach your radar that pollen is safe. That way, the next time you come in contact with pollen, your radar (subconscious) won’t send the alarm to mobilize your body’s defences. I was an intensive care nurse for 10 years before earning a post-graduate degree in Homeopathy/Heilkunst and becoming an Advanced Practitioner in Neurolinguistic Programming. My specialties are allergies and physiological illnesses (chronic diseases) that are caused by repressed emotions. Spirit of the Lotus © Jayna Simpson — www.paintedplanet.org

My years of using homeopathy on its own gave results that were satisfactory but not particularly amazing. Now I have found the perfect balance of homeopathy and neurolinguistic programming that gives astounding results! Fully 80% of my clients see drastic improvement of their allergies during the first session. There is no reason to suffer from allergies because the solution is simple, easy and very rapid in most cases. At most, only two sessions are required to clear an allergy. Sometimes a single session is sufficient. Each session lasts about 60–90 minutes.
The current medical system has no solution to allergies. I am thrilled that through using a combination of powerful techniques, I am able to eliminate allergies so that you can return to a healthy, allergy free life! Louise Grenier, BSC Nursing, uses a number of modalities to help clients (Homeopathy, Nutrition, EFT, NLP and more) and is available in two clinics, one situated in St. Albert (780-459-3609) and one in Sherwood Park (780-416-4211). If your immune system is like an army that is always ready to protect and defend you against an invader, then your subconscious is like a surveillance radar that detects invaders and warns the army. The backyard pharmacy by John Joyal Intergrative Therapist in Earth Spirit Medicine There was a time, not so long ago, when herbal remedies were made by shamans and elders. Recipes were sacred and wild crafting was a way of life. There were no stocked pharmacies, no drug companies and no overuse of antibiotics. Today, we simply seek relief from the home medicine cabinet. But what if these modern remedies were unavailable? What if a backyard garden was your pharmacy? Would you know where to look? There needs to be a reawakening of common herbal lore. So, let’s spend a little time in the garden and see what we can find. The overuse of antibiotics has become an important debate over Detail of Garlic Flower the past decade. All too often © John Joyal prescriptions are written for nonbacterial illnesses that can eventually lead to bacterial resistance to antibiotics. Boosting the immune system is a way to avoid bacterial and viral illnesses and there are many herbs that can serve in this preventative capacity. Take Echinacea, for example; it’s an evidence based, kick-starter of the immune system. In addition to supporting our immune system with their antimicrobial magic, the world of herbs can provide support and encouragement to essential systems and physiological processes from the cardiovascular system to sleep. Lack of sleep and anxiety permeate our society at all levels. Unfortunately, commercial pharmaceutical firms have successfully tapped this cry for help and have provided us a seemingly endless supply of medication, to achieve artificial zzzzen…. There are some herbs however that can achieve the desired state of relaxation and procure the all elusive nap time.
person to person. Treating these symptoms as all the same is neither rational nor helpful. Here are some herbs that can sooth body pain and douce fiery headaches. Feverfew has a well established history, especially in European phytotherapy as a primary remedy for treating and preventing migraine headache. Lavender and Lemon Balm are a couple of delightful aromatic herbs that can sooth a headache even at its worst. Small cloth bags full of these herbs can be placed on a person’s forehead (their effectiveness is accentuated by placing them in a freezer prior to using them as headache rescuers). Meadowsweet and Willow also find their place amongst these helpful herbs. Being anti-inflammatories these two contain an aspirin-like chemical (salicylate), with willow being considered the wellspring of modern Aspirin. Devils Claw can also join this duo, with its apparent ability to reduce inflammation and pain in the joints. “None of these plants is a painkiller in the strict sense; that is, they do not block the experience of pain. An example of a medicinal plant that does is Papaver somniferum (opium poppy). The most effective plant painkillers are controlled by law, as they have the potential to lead to dependency and addiction. Because of this, it is often more effective in practice to use indirect pathways to pain relief. The herbs listed here appear to work by addressing the cause of the pain, rather than the experience of pain. These are anti-inflammatory and antispasmodic herbs that alleviate the processes underlying most muscle contractions and tension headaches.” (David Hoffmann, Medical Herbalism: The Science and Practice of Herbal Medicine, Healing Arts Press, 2003.)

Valerian is well known and has been imbued with a vast range of uses, from decreasing anxiety and aiding sleeplessness, to relaxing body wide agitations related to spasms and cramps. It has also shown to be helpful with soothing intestinal colic and being a mild pain reliever for others. Skullcap is also a very well known relaxing nervine, comparable to other commonly used anxiolytics. Not only does it decrease tension, but it also refreshes the central nervous system. For some of us pain is a predator that hides at every corner ready to pounce at any time. With added headaches and migraines, it’s a wonder some of us can face the day. We must remember however that pain is different from

Navigating 2016 Living with intention and focus is key to holistic success and it is difficult to have intention without self-awareness and reflection. A new year provides a valuable opportunity to ponder the past year while anticipating the future year. I’ve spent some time pondering my 2015 in gratitude and appreciation, seeking to glean what I can from the journey itself and all I’ve experienced. This has birthed some critical moments of awareness for me, which I hope will be helpful for you. Please reflect with me on navigating 2016 with authenticity, alignment and abundance. AUTHENTICITY is being real, genuine or authentic. It is about not being a copy or imitation of something or someone else, but instead being true to who you really are. Only the truth of who you really are, when you fully realize it, will set you free. It takes courage and bravery to be who you really are. We live in a world that seems to reward a lack of authenticity and appears to honor those who are airbrushed, artificial and manufactured. Navigating 2016 with authenticity will involve being genuine and being real, because authenticity starts in the heart. Authenticity is fierce and unyielding, vulnerable and transparent. Authenticity does not quit or sit quietly on the sidelines. Authenticity involves being true to yourself, true to those you love, relentless in pursuing your passions and fearless in seizing your dreams. Navigating 2016 will require authenticity.
personality you were granted in order to achieve your aspirations. Your actions are the daily choices, habits and routines you employ in order to achieve your aspirations. When your aspirations, approaches, attributes and actions are all lined up with one another so that they position you for your best life, you have alignment. The truth is that when what you value and want and dream about does not match the life you are living, you have pain. Navigating 2016 will require alignment.

Navigating 2016 will also require ABUNDANCE. Abundance is not about nicer cars, fatter bank accounts or the accumulation of wealth for the sake of materialism. True abundance is giving back - having enough to meet your needs and the needs of those you love, along with capacity to impact others. In 2016, don’t look for abundance; look to align authentically because abundance itself is attracted to both authenticity and alignment. As we move into authenticity and alignment, abundance flows easily. I get the sense that navigating 2016 will also include navigating uncertainty, ambiguity and complexity. It seems to me that precise clarity, clear direction and a defined path will occur in some areas, but not in others. There will be areas of your life, relationships, career and business where the route will be clear and specific and yet other areas where there will be uncertainty, lack of clarity and even doubt. There will be things we cannot control in 2016, so let’s focus on what we can control in order to live intelligently.
So in 2016, remember to align authentically because abundance itself is attracted to both authenticity and alignment. Happy 2016! Abe Brown is the Coach’s Coach, the Founder/President of Momentum Coaching (www.momentumcoaching.ca), and President of the Certified Coaches Federation (over 10,000 Life & Executive Coaches in the last 8 years). He has also worked with several businesses to accelerate revenue growth and maximize engagement.
Navigating 2016 will also require ALIGNMENT. The most empowering condition of all is when your aspirations and approaches line up with your attributes and actions, all working together to position you for your best life. THAT is alignment. Alignment is arranging aspirations, approaches, attributes and actions so that they position you for your very best life. Aspiration is what you dream about; what you want. How you pursue your aspirations is your approach. Your attributes are the unique capacities, abilities and www.MosaicMagazine.ca

The Keys of Destiny When a person overcomes a loss at any level of reality, it can create a cycle. Many of you keep going round and round, coming back to the same spot like a scratched vinyl record. I have created a process that I call “The Keys of Destiny” which will help you to release old cellular memories that are holding you back from experiencing yourself at the highest vibrational levels possible. I have been practicing for over 25 years and achieved approximately 50 certifications in healing modalities for my personal growth as a survivor. Being born with extra sensory perception, I chose to use this as inspiration as the heart heals all wounds no matter what you have went through in your life. As a natural healer and animal communicator I grew to learn that I was different and I began to use those tools that helped me from Reiki, Buddhism, Hypnotherapy and being a caretaker of ancient crystal skulls. In my search to remember who I am and where I originated, my beginning, I was able to collect and bring forth gifts as it is part of my soul’s destiny to share this spark of light with you. By going deep into my beginnings and channeling my Higher Self, I brought forth a process/system that was so easy to share and teach others, that no one has brought forth before. It’s available to you now, in love and light. I tapped into my Gatekeeper and rediscovered a lost forgotten technique in which you reconnect to the vortex of creation. With this knowledge, I created a process that helps you to stop recreating old cellular memory (being played over and over like a scratched vinyl record). In the process you are able to release yourself on all levels (past, present, possible future) into a 5th dimensional consciousness of expansion where you access and release the cellular memory that is holding on to blocked emotions.
As old cellular memories are released from you and you enter into your Higher Self vibration (where you experienced this awakening), you can feel the energy shift in yourself. You know that what has happened (the release) is real because you can actually feel the difference viscerally in your body, in your gut. From this higher vibrational place within yourself, you may continue on your soul’s journey into enlightenment. It’s as simple as imagining a golden door in front of you and then going into your heart, taking the key, opening the door and walking through! Once you have walked through and accessed multidimensional clearing and receiving, you are then grounded to Gia/Mother Earth’s gravitation (in this frequency of your Higher Self, into your physical body) and you can work in unison with her as a whole on all levels and elementals of the vortex of creation. For the next 21 days you will notice life changes within you, and outside of yourself, in a new way that you never knew or experienced in the past, as you now have access to these keys of destiny within you, through the heart. You will even notice you no longer respond in ways that are not in your highest interest, breaking some habits you’ve learned along the way in life.
All is created through the Law of Attraction and the Genie hidden in you... Hearing the call to Shamanism by Sarah Salter-Kelly Spiritual Healer Here we are at last. Living in the West at a time on this sweet sacred Earth where it is possible to listen to the call in our spirits... possible to become a Shaman capable of using ceremonial arts and vision to awaken to the oneness of all beings. We know that any fear getting in the way of our natural spiritual inclinations are of our own making, thus we have the power to meet our fear if we so choose. Shamans Path is a one-year program, which lays the fundamental foundation for anyone called to be a Shaman. It is taught through experiential process not theory, for it is intended to be a life path that is walked, rather than an idea which is thought. The four weekends of this program are split into each of the cardinal directions and four elements as explained below. It is in the EAST that we are physically born anew. As the sun of the spring equinox warms the land, we step into our own light with curiosity and innocence. The intention in the east direction is to open to the vision of the eagle, seeing the full picture of who we are and understanding the gifts and patterns in our joy and our suffering. Your practice will focus on using invocation and prayer to give voice to your own unique relationship with the Sacred, making regular offerings of cornmeal to the Great Mother and tobacco to the Creator. This is where you begin to create your mesa, which is a sacred bundle comprised of the medicine stones forged
in each direction and any special or significant tools you carry. It is also used as a personal altar, reflecting your core relationship with the Sacred, inclusive of your guides, teachings and lessons, those known and those unknown. Thus it is the anchor for all your work within Shamans Path. The east holds the element of air, so your medicine tool in this direction is making a smudge wand and receiving the teachings of purification. The heartbeat of Mother Earth calls out to us in the SOUTH. It is summer solstice, the time in the wheel where we experience the fullness of ourselves as manifested beings. So we are able to see up close and personal, any of the stories that we carry which do not serve us, stories which have hindered our freedom and liberation. Working with the power of Sachamama, the great serpent, we are guided in shedding these stories fully in one piece, the way she sheds her skin. This is the direction where you will discover your power animal and learn how to shape-shift into its form to track your medicine name. You will learn the teachings of a fire ceremony in all its intricate details and the medicine of becoming a Drum Keeper. Your drum is created in a ceremonial way and you are taught how to allow it to guide you, using it as a vessel for prayer, journey and celebration. Around the solstice fire you will receive your medicine woman/man initiation rites. Death comes calling in the WEST. It is the time of the fall equinox and it is our natural inclination to move inwards, becoming conscious of our shadow.

This weekend is spent working with fear and the teachings of death, both of which commonly show up for us in the ways in which we feel we have failed, been disappointed or faced loss. Our aim is to discover where compassion may meet our shadow and what our shadow needs to be expressed and received. This is the direction of water, our emotional bodies, so the medium of water is used in shamanic journey in order to become conscious of what is needed to flow into fear and discover its lessons. Each process, in the first two days, is set up to prepare us to walk on fire on the Friday night in a ceremonial fire walk. The mountain lion is the ally we call in for the west direction, as it is he who teaches us to navigate the darkness of our souls with courage and integrity... He joins us during your ‘death rites’ ceremony to take you across the rainbow bridge, resetting your energetic blueprint to its divine form. In the realm of the NORTH we connect with the Ancestors and the Sacred Mountains. Grandmother Bone Womyn is the archetypical ally whose direct wisdom lays in the revelation of truth. She guides us into the cave of the ancestors to track the stories of our ancestral lines, becoming conscious of any generational trauma in need of resolution. North is the time of the winter solstice where all life seems to fade away and we are left with the raw energy of the void. It is here that you lay in the gestation of dreamtime, gathering the medicine you need for re-birth. Our ceremonies focus on the contracts made with your parents, releasing them and yourself from the bondage of expectation and consciously choosing to welcome in the Divine Mother and Father to support you in the birth of your spirit. Earth is the element, which anchors our experience. The medicine tool you create is a medicine bag or a rattle imbued with a mandala (beads/embroidery thread/paint), representing your journey through the wheel. There are processes in the program which will guide you IN (meditation, personal mandalas, creating ceremonial tools and shamanic journey) as well as processes which guide you OUT (circle, dyads and shamanic dance). Some processes (such as ceremony, drumming and singing) will do both.

Yoga demystified by a Yogi There is a lot of ‘yoga’ happening in the world today that has very little to do with what yoga really is. Several myths about this ancient practice have long been masquerading as facts. It is time to demystify yoga.
One must become yoga. If you are doing yoga in the morning and evening, but the rest of the time you are emotionally entangled with life, this is not yoga. This is only yoga practice.
In this article, Sadhguru, a realized yogi, mystic and visionary, will help to demystify yoga. Named one of India’s 50 most influential people, Sadhguru has a unique ability to make the ancient yogic sciences relevant to contemporary minds, acting as a bridge to the deeper dimensions of life. His life and work are constant reminders that the inner sciences are not outdated philosophies, but rather, vitally relevant to our times. His approach does not ascribe to any belief system, but offers methods for self-transformation that are both proven and powerful.
There is no aspect of life that is excluded from the yogic process. If your life becomes yoga, then you can do everything. You can conduct your family or your business. You can use every aspect of life either to entangle yourself or liberate yourself. If you are using it to entangle yourself, we call it ‘karma’. If you are using it to liberate yourself, we call it ‘yoga’.
Butterfly Mandala © Heather Brewster — www.heatherbrewster.com
Sadhguru established the Isha Foundation, a volunteerrun international nonprofit organization dedicated to cultivating human potential. The Foundation is headquartered at Isha Yoga Center in southern India and at Isha Institute of Inner-sciences in the United States. The course that he designed for selftransformation is called Inner Engineering. Is yoga all about impossible postures? SADHGURU: In the western part of the world, if you utter the word ‘yoga’, people think of impossible physical postures. This is a much distorted idea of what yoga is. The word ‘yoga’ literally means ‘union’. What does union mean? Today it is a scientific fact that the whole existence is just one energy manifesting itself in a million different ways. Yoga is not about bending and twisting your body or holding your breath. It is a mechanism and a technology to get you to that state of experience where you see reality just the way it is. Does yoga comes from Hinduism?
Can I stop and drink water while doing yoga?
SADHGURU: Yoga is a technology. Technology does not make any distinction as to what you believe in and what you do not believe in.
SADHGURU: When you practice yoga, you are systematically raising the ushna (heat) in the body. If you drink cold water, the ushna (heat) will rapidly fall and this will cause various other reactions. You will become more susceptible to allergic conditions, excess mucus and such things. If you are doing intense asanas (yoga postures) and you suddenly drink cold water, you may catch a cold immediately. So never drink water when you are doing asanas (yoga postures).
Yoga is Hindu just the way gravity is Christian. Just because the law of gravity was propounded by Isaac Newton, who lived in a Christian culture, does it make gravity Christian? The yogic sciences have been labeled Hindu only because this technology grew and prospered in India. Yoga is a technology. Anybody who is willing to make use of it can make use of it. It is ridiculous to even think that there could be a religious tinge to yoga. Yoga is something you practice every morning and evening. SADHGURU: Yoga is not something that you just do morning and evening. Yoga is a certain way of being.

Mosaic Magazine — Spring 2016
Can I speak in the middle of a yoga pose? SADHGURU: An asana (yoga posture) is a dynamic way of meditating. Because you can’t sit still, you’re doing something else to become meditative. When your body is at ease, your mind is at ease and your energy is at full vibrancy and balance. www.MosaicMagazine.ca
If you speak, so many things change dramatically, not just physiologically but in the energy parameters also. So, not talking during the asana (yoga posture) is not just a norm, it is a rule. You must never, ever speak in yoga postures because your focus, breath and what happens to your energy system are most important; otherwise you will disturb the system. If you want to speak, there’s no need to do asana (yoga posture). Just go jogging and talk to each other. You have said that yoga is the ‘ultimate expression’. What is that? SADHGURU: When we say ‘yoga’, probably for many of you it means some physical postures, twisting yourself into some impossible postures. That is not what we are referring to as yoga. Yoga means to be in perfect tune. Your body, mind and spirit and the existence are in absolute harmony. When you fine-tune yourself to such a point where everything functions so beautifully within you, naturally the best of your abilities will just flow out of you. When you’re happy, your energies always function better. Do you see that when you’re happy you have endless energy? Even if you don’t eat, if you don’t sleep, it doesn’t matter; you can go on and on. Have you noticed this? So just a little happiness can liberate you from your normal limitations of energy and capability. Now, yoga is the science of activating your inner energies in such a way that your body, mind and emotions function at their highest peak. When your body and mind function in a completely different state of relaxation and a certain level of blissfulness, you can be released from so many things that most people are suffering from. Right now, you come and sit in your office, and you have a nagging headache. Your headache isn’t a major disease, but it takes away your whole capability for that day. Just that throbbing takes away everything. With the practice of yoga, your body and mind will be kept at their highest possible peak.
in one plant functions to create rose flowers, in another plant it functions to create jasmine, but it’s all the same energy manifesting itself. If you gain a little bit of mastery over your own energies, you will see, things that you never imagined possible, you will do simply and naturally. This is the experience of any number of people who have started doing these practices. It is the inner technology of creating situations the way you want them. With the same mud that we build such huge buildings, initially people were building little huts. They thought that’s all they could do with it. With the same earth, haven’t we built computers? What you call a computer is dug out of the earth. We thought we could only dig mud and make pots or bricks out of it. Now we dig the earth and make computers, cars, and even spacecrafts out of it. It is the same energy; we have just started using it for higher and higher possibilities. Similarly, our inner energies are like that. There is a whole technology as to how to use this energy for higher possibilities. Every human being must explore and know this. Otherwise, life becomes very limited and accidental; you get to do only what you’re exposed to. Once you start activating your inner energies, your capabilities happen in a different sphere altogether. Yoga is a tool to find ultimate expression to life. To learn more about Inner Engineering, please visit: https://www.innerengineering.com/online/ To learn more about Sadhguru, please visit: Isha.Sadhguru.org
There are also other dimensions to yoga. When you activate your energies, you can function in a different way. As you are sitting here right now, you consider yourself to be a person. You are identified with many things, but what you call as ‘myself’ is just a certain amount of energy. Do you know, modern science is telling you that the whole existence is just energy manifesting itself in different ways? If this is so, then you’re also just a little bit of energy functioning in a particular way. As far as science is concerned, this same energy which you call as ‘myself’ can be here as a rock, lie there as mud, stand up as a tree, bark as a dog or sit here as you. Everything is the same energy, but functioning at different levels of capability. Similarly among human beings, though we’re all made of the same energy, we still don’t function at the same level of capability. What you call capability or talent, what you call your ability to do things in the world, your creativity, is just a certain way your energy functions. This energy, www.MosaicMagazine.ca

The Hanged Man I’ve never seen anyone do the happy dance when the Hanged Man card shows up in their tarot reading. But once understood, it offers a sort of safety valve to ensure that we’re moving in alignment with our highest good. Often we create life experiences that are rooted in rigid beliefs and limiting thought forms. When our lives are overly motivated by physical rewards, we can quite easily lose our way. The Hanged Man comes to rescue us (though admittedly we may not experience this intervention with open arms) and get us back on track. The rescue might appear as a crisis, an insurmountable block or a ‘time-out’ in one’s busy life. The Hanged Man, shown hanging upside down in a tree, models that we must also reverse our usual way of perceiving ourselves and the world around us. And as we take time to hang and pause, we become aware of outmoded belief systems that must be consciously released and cleansed on an energetic level. First we release, forgive and surrender; then we await the new enlightened awareness. The Hanged Man’s head is surrounded by a luminous golden aura, a halo that indicates a process of enlightenment is unfolding. As we surrender the fear based burdens we carry, something transformational begins to occur. We remember who we truly are and the God spark within each one of us begins to awaken. We shift our focus from the endless hunger of neediness (all the material things we think will make us happy) and enter into the peaceful caverns of our soul. It is from this deep inner knowing that we begin to see our lives in a whole new light. Awareness floods in and we are guided to move forward once again; however, this time in alignment with our soul’s highest purpose. Here are a few examples of how the Hanged Man might appear.
STAGNANT RELATIONSHIPS: Has your marriage or other important relationship hit a wall? What would it be like to view the relationship from the other person’s perspective? Or if that’s what you’re currently doing (trying to be ‘the one’ that you think the other person wants/needs you to be), then what would it be like to listen to your own needs and desires in the relationship? Affirmation: “I’m now available to receive and give love in all relationships that are for my highest good.” Then, if they aren’t for your highest good, the relationship will fall away.

HEALTH: If you’re dealing with an illness (or health concern) consider what you need to let go of in order to heal (physically, emotionally and/or spiritually). Sometimes a health issue can inspire you to study alternative healing, leading to an exciting new vocation and renewed personal health. Affirmation: “Divine Light fills every cell in my body with love and vibrant health.”
OTHER: If these examples don’t resonate with you, honor this. Then follow this process… Identify the limiting beliefs that are keeping you stuck and release those beliefs (write them down so it’s concrete and then burn them because there is power in that). Then forgive those who you blame and see your situation from a whole new perspective by flipping it upside down. Let your highest knowing guide your next steps (you will know this as it will come as a big AHA). When life spins you around, know that the Hanged Man has come to release all that no longer serves your highest good and guide you onto your perfect path. Skye has specialized in Tarot for over 30 years. She teaches Feng Shui, Tarot and Dreamwork at the Northern Star College of Mystical Studies in Edmonton. Contact her at skyedreamhorse@shaw.ca
JOB LOSS: How can we look at this challenge in a different way? Perhaps the loss of your job gives you permission to explore what you’ve always longed to do. What would you do if you didn’t need the money? Often our passions have the potential to develop into a prosperous career doing what we love. Here is an affirmation for you: “Step by step I am guided by Spirit to a career that is in alignment with my soul’s purpose. This work is already chosen for me and will arrive in perfect timing.” www.MosaicMagazine.ca

Astrology, fate and free will
by Catherine Potter Astrologer and Hypnotherapist When I am teaching astrology or working with a client, one of the first things I address is the ‘fate’ versus ‘free will’ question.
Astrology and astronomy have a similar starting place in that they both look at past, present and future planetary cycles. With today’s technology those cycles can be predicted far in advance. There is an order to how the planets move within our solar system (and beyond), meaning there is a pattern of predictable cycles as well as a vast amount of unknown growth and change. Even the universe is responding sometimes in ways we can’t predict. Using some of the same information, astrology and astronomy then veer off into different directions. From an astrological perspective we look to see how the planetary cycles affect us here on Earth. Examples would include solar storms and their effect on our communication systems or the monthly moon’s effect on our tides.
A challenging cycle for one person might create enough tension and accumulated stress that they break down with it. For another person it may push them to move through obstacles. Same cycle, different results. I wrote (in the last issue of Mosaic) about a planetary cycle that is affecting all of us - that is prediction. We are fated to experience it, so to speak. But how we deal with it comes under the heading of free will. Do we override our knowing, do we behave in our most unconscious conditioned way or do we look at new ways to deal with favorable and challenging cycles? Each one of the above responses will create a slightly or vastly different outcome. Some choices will keep us locked into patterns of behaviors that are generations old. In other words, we keep recreating what our family did or in the case of global cycles, what our cultural, racial and religious biases dictate. In some situations that can be good and in others, very limiting. In the past astrology was mostly predictive in that an astrologer would tell a client that there was one outcome possible for them. That prediction would have been relevant to the time period the person was living in and the cultural and social norms for that period.
Detail of Milky Way Swing © Carol Breen — www.carolbreen.ca
Both of the above examples have predictable cycles. What becomes less predictable is how different people
process planetary cycles and the choices they make with them.

Mosaic Magazine — Spring 2016
www.MosaicMagazine.ca
However how we work with the study and practice of astrology must grow along with advancements in science, technology and evolving world perspectives. What can an astrologer do? They can tell you what the global cycles are many years in advance and what the flavor and collective mood will be. For an individual, an astrologer can tell you (from birth through death) what your cycles will be, the area of your life they will affect, whether they are challenging or easy, and how long the influence of the cycle will last. Those predicted cycles will come; we can’t change that. In that way we are fated to encounter certain types of situations at pre-determined points in our lives. What you do with them opens up the door to a variety of possible outcomes and therein lies the free choice. As well as identifying the flavor of the cycle you are dealing with, a well trained astrologer can offer suggestions and recommendations on how to work consciously with and get the most benefit out of the cycle. They can refer you to other people who can help if a situation is outside their field of training. The bottom line is that I like knowing when I travel, or I’m about to sign an important document, if Mercury is retrograde. Will I still go on my trip? Absolutely, but I will take a change of clothes in my carry-on bag in case my luggage ends up traveling to a different location than me. As well, when I have been undergoing tough times in my life or have been at major crossroads, the use of astrology helped me understand what was happening. It also helped me to look at the quality of my choices and interactions with the situations I was dealing with. From my perspective the ancient art of astrology is as relevant today as any other point in our past. As a tool for self discovery, a model to help understand interconnection or a guidepost at important transition periods in one’s life, it is one of the most valuable tools I have worked with. Astrology is part science, part art, mundane, mysterious and mystical. An Astrologer since 1986, Catherine is also a Hypnotherapist and Meditation Instructor. Four years ago I fell in love with mixed media art. It’s a form of creative, flawed art made beautiful. I love the uncertainty and variety it offers. It feeds and entertains my soul. I can travel and wander without ever leaving the room. When you’ve had to move so much like me it was easy to adopt a gypsy lifestyle. Mixed media art is like a wandering gypsy - never settling on a specific medium but just taking what she needs and running along… leaving layers upon layers of textures and vivacious colors behind, leaving us all wondering what her story is. This is why I love being a mixed-media artist.
I would describe my work as quirky, vibrant, encouraging, fun, and meaningful. I use a lot of my past and current experiences for inspiration in my art work. I also use inspiring quotes, vibrant colors, appealing patterns, www.MosaicMagazine.ca
If I mess up while working on a piece, in the end it always turns out to be a gift wrapped in sandpaper. My first thought though is: “sweet molasses!” followed by: “It’s okay; something great will come out of this.” It’s a good practice for learning to let go and just appreciate the process. Con Amore
(Italian) With heart and soul
My ‘let them dance’ AHA One Christmas Eve, a very long time ago, something happened that changed me forever. I was just sixyears-old. That night my Dad and one of my older brothers were arguing. That brother was 13 years older than me (which made him around 19 at the time) and I loved him dearly, as much as I loved my Dad. When they started to verbally fight, we (my Mom, other brother and sister) were concerned, but we were also used to them arguing from time to time. So, it wasn’t until they started to fight physically (which had never happened before) that it became scary. As they began pushing each other, back and forth, I can remember being terrified. I can’t say why I thought (at six-yearsold) it was my responsibility to fix this, but I jumped in between them, literally, using my little, physical body as a buffer. I can remember pleading out loud to them: “We love you both. Please don’t do this. We love you both.” I thought that would make a difference. But the fight was on. And my brother, in the heat of the moment, and obviously angry at me for interfering, hit me quite hard to get me out of his way. But with a childish determination, I jumped in AGAIN to stop them and that was when my brother hit me a second time (on my face). And this time he hit me like a man would hit another man. He hit me so hard that the pain of it sometimes vibrates still, even today. The trauma of that event was energetically embedded into that spot on my face. That moment changed me tremendously on a number of levels. And I’ve been trying to heal it forever. For the last 15 years I’ve been working with various therapeutic practitioners and I can’t tell you how many times that place (where he hit my face) aches. It can ache like it just happened. During a recent Reiki session I had with Ann MeyerAnhorn, my face began to ache once again. As I told her the story she wondered (after all this time and all the work I’ve done to heal it), why I was still experiencing the pain. Her questions awakened a renewed curiosity in me too, making me realize that there must be some root that I had not uncovered yet, that needed to be pulled out before I could heal this completely. There was something I

was obviously missing. There is always a deeper ‘learning’ to be discovered if we are stuck in a repetitive pattern. As we talked more, I thought about Dr. John Upledger (creator of CranioSacral Therapy) in one of his books, writing about a patient that couldn’t forgive someone else and heal until she realized that she was not owning up to her part of their dysfunctional relationship. And so I wondered in that moment, what was my part in this? What was my lesson in this? And the answer came to me quickly. I realized I had a habit of trying to fix/help other people whose situations were none of my business, not my karma and therefore out of my control.
Dancing Shoes © Catherine Marchand
by Connie Brisson
That was a big AHA for me. I realized that I have to let people ‘dance’ the dances that they purposely choreographed in this lifetime. Who am I to interfere with whatever karmic agreements people have agreed to participate in, especially when I realize that interfering with that dance could mean more lifetimes for both of them. My Dad and my brother had a dance to dance (a karmic relationship to live through and learn from) and my interference, my wanting to fix it, ultimately caused my suffering because, well-intentioned or not, this was not my dance to dance.
Now I see that I have a pattern of striving to save people I care about from relationships or circumstances (often toxic) with other people or situations in their lives. I want to ‘fix’ these people whenever I can, however I can. And it’s pretty much always led to heartache for me because it just is not my place/business/dance to fix these relationships or people. It’s for them to fix themselves. Yet it’s a very hard lesson for me because I just want everyone to be happy, to learn their lessons quickly and then advance onto a better life. But now I see that sometimes people can ONLY learn from dancing the complicated (and sometimes very painful and repetitive) dances of their lives. It’s how they have chosen to learn the lessons they need to learn this lifetime. And I need to remember that. So now when my face begins to ache, it’s like an alarm. In that moment, I’ve learned to stop and ask myself: “Am I in someone else’s ‘dance’ right now?” And I often am. Letting other people be responsible for themselves (and their choices) is one of the hardest things I’ve had to learn and I’m still learning it. But it’s also been so liberating too. I’m free in a way I haven’t been before. It’s a new dance for me… www.MosaicMagazine.ca
