In this Mosaic… said it would all work out, because she didn’t say that. It was because I finally understood what was ‘really’ happening behind all of the drama. When you can get to the root of the drama, it’s like getting to the eye of the storm - it’s strangely peaceful there. Since then I’ve developed a true respect for the unbiased messages that the tarot cards have to give. Whenever I’m stuck in life, I know that a tarot session will help me to move beyond the surface situation and see the depth of what is really going on.
boccabellaphoto.com
The kind of tarot I’m talking about isn’t about fortune telling (so please choose your tarot readers thoughtfully), but instead about personal growth and development. The cards aren’t there to tell me my future, but instead help me get insights so I can make wise choices and create the future I want.
by Connie Brisson I was desperate. That’s how I remember it. Nothing else could have gotten me to go to my first tarot session many years ago. I was so scared of tarot. Because I grew up Catholic (even though we didn’t go to church a lot), I was mighty scared of the devil and of course, we were told that tarot was part of that. Well, I didn’t want any part of that. But there I was, in my early 30’s, struggling with something so big that I felt like I was drowning from the heavy weight of it all. I had tried everything that I knew to ‘fix’ the issue, but nothing was working. Instead, the situation continued to worsen and I was desperate for any kind of help. So, one day, when a friend suggested tarot as a way of learning more about the situation, I was desperately willing to try it. She gave me Skye MacLachlan’s number, said she was really good and not ‘scary’ at all. And that is how my love for tarot began. It’s true, Skye wasn’t scary and she was good. That day I learned so much about myself and the issues at hand, especially about looking at things in a different way - an empowering way, looking for the lessons inherent in the dilemma - and that changed everything for me. I was no longer the victim. Changing my perspective allowed me to feel compassion and even hope.
In tarot, we each have lifetime tarot cards (similar to astrological signs). There are 22 Major Arcana cards in tarot that represent different archetypal energies. Although we are all composed of many different facets (all 22 cards), the idea behind the lifetime tarot card is that we chose to be born at a certain time of the solar year (to maximize the archetypal energies) to coordinate with something that your soul wanted to develop in this lifetime. The lifetime tarot cards (based numerically on your birthdates) provide insights into the gifts and challenges you have set yourself up for through your birth date. I’m the Lovers lifetime card and I’m learning my biggest soul lessons through my personal relationships (not just with my husband, but with everyone). Knowing this has helped me to look at each person in my life, ask myself if I have a balanced relationship with them and if not, what can I do about it? This insight has helped me shift many unhealthy relationships letting go of some, while others grow deeper and stronger over time. Because I love tarot and can’t wait for you to love it too, our guest speaker at the next Mosaic Mystics Meeting will be Skye MacLachlan (tarot teacher at Northern Star College of Mystical Studies). She’ll help you determine your lifetime tarot card, explain what the archetype of each card can teach you (about what you are meant to learn in this life), along with the gifts and challenges inherent in your card. Join us on Thursday, DECEMBER 4 at 7:00 p.m. (until 9:30 pm) at Star of the North, 3A St. Vital Avenue, St. Albert. The cost is $20 cash. After Skye speaks (between 1 - 1½ hours), we’ll choose our books and then just visit with each other. Please email me at mosaicmagazine@shaw.ca by December 3 to RSVP if you are coming. I hope to see you there. Remember to bring a book!
That was the first time I had any peace in regards to the situation I came to see her about. And it wasn’t because she

Understanding your intuitive gifts by Skye MacLachlan Feng Shui Consultant
holding them and can receive impressions from a client when holding an object that belongs to the client (psychometry) or even through viewing a photo of a person or an event.
I’ve always been intuitive. Since I was small, I just ‘knew’ things.
The blue color ray person is able to receive the thoughts and ideas of others. Inventors and writers are most often blue intuitives. They have a thirst for knowledge and also a need to ‘prove’ intuitive information. Blue ray intuitives benefit greatly by communicating their intuitive impressions to a receptive audience; otherwise their minds can become overstimulated by the constant influx of thoughts.
Then after teaching the tarot certification program at the Northern Star College for many years, and seeing how each student worked with the cards, I became curious about how intuition manifests uniquely for each of us. Why do some students experience physical sensations that mirror the client’s physical pain, while others feel the emotions of their client and yet others receive messages from Spirit? I’m aware that each of us comes into this life vibrating most strongly with a particular color ray. One day I had a big ‘aha’ moment that our primary color ray determines how we experience intuition. We all have intuitive gifts, they simply manifest differently. If your primary color ray is red, you receive intuitive information through your heart and emotions. You naturally feel the emotions that others are experiencing. It’s not unusual for you to awaken in the night with strong feelings of fear or pain when a catastrophic event has occurred somewhere on the planet (or with a family member or close friend). Red color ray people are warm and emotionally responsive and others are naturally drawn to them. If your primary color ray is orange, you have an affinity with understanding the laws of cause and effect. When an event occurs in the world or in a client’s life, you’ll be energetically drawn to ‘knowing’ the root cause of this event. Orange ray intuitives can most easily access information from the Akashic Records (records of our past, present and future lives). They also enjoy bringing a fun and light hearted atmosphere to an intuitive session.
detail of The Five Elements © Heather Brewster
So when I learned tarot many years ago, I naturally used my intuition to help me give messages that were meaningful to my clients.
The indigo color ray person is a natural medium. As children they often have invisible friends and will talk to family members even after they’ve passed into spirit. They may also see visions and have precognitive dreams. Prophets and those who intuit future events are most often indigo intuitives. They are continually picking up information and are often baffled by how they know certain things.
The purple color ray person will receive intuitive flashes in the form of wisdom. They are able to see the bigger picture and have an ability to understand what the soul is learning from a situation. Their wise perspective brings illumination and challenges us to grow and move into alignment with our soul’s purpose. Each one of us has intuitive gifts. I hope my insights will help you recognize and develop your unique gifts. Skye has specialized in Feng Shui for the home and business for over 30 years. She teaches Feng Shui, Tarot and Dreamwork at the Northern Star College of Mystical Studies in Edmonton, www.northernstarcollege.com.
The yellow color ray person draws their strength from Spirit (in the form of highly developed guides, angels and ascended masters) and will often receive impressions or messages from Spirit. They are constantly ‘listening in’ and receiving guidance from invisible beings. They have the ability to experience the bliss of the higher astral realms. They may have difficulty with being on time, paying their bills and other practical responsibilities. The green color ray person receives intuitive impressions through physical sensations in their body. They will often experience the physical pain of a family member or client and may have difficultly releasing this pain from their bodies. They easily feel the energy of gemstones when

thriving at school; she was enjoying sleepovers with girlfriends, and her chronic fears were all but forgotten.
Heilkunst is a new holistic system of medicine created to fit the demands of our times - stress, pollution, and chronic diseases that range from anxiety disorders to cancer or fibromyalgia, and extend to childhood disorders such as autism, ADHD, asthma and severe allergies.
‘Ryan’ was a six-year-old boy with OCD who often exhibited extreme aggression. His mother reported that even as a toddler in the supermarket’s shopping cart, ‘Ryan’ would reach out and grab or hit other babies whose carts they would pass. After a year of treatment, Ryan is now a loving, well-behaved child who excels at school and makes (and keeps) friends easily.
My own route was not unlike those described above. My son (now age 19) was diagnosed with autism over 17 years ago. After years of frustration with the dearth of medical treatments that were effective, I stumbled upon Heilkunst Medicine when he was eight years old. Now an outgoing young man, he inspires all who meet him with his compassion, work ethic and charm. After seeing the remarkable improvements in my own son’s condition, I decided to embark on studies to become a Heilkunst practitioner. Having graduated in 2011, I established my Heilkunst practice in Calgary. The patients I treat run the gamut of chronic issues. After a long, circuitous route, each of the following individuals had come to the right place for treatment. ‘Martin’ was a teenage boy with severe autism. Deaf and non-verbal, he also had severe seizures, combined with chronic constipation and a sleep disorder. Within six months of Heilkunst treatment, his 24-hour EEG indicated that he was seizure free. His neurologist recommended weaning him off his anti-convulsant medication. His use of sign language improved to the point where he was able to engage in conversations with his family. He began enjoying bedtime stories and for the first time, was able to comprehend what was being read to him.
Family Tree © Bernadette McCormack — www.bernadettemccormack.com
Heilkunst puts together a full picture of the problem, taking into account nutritional needs, emotional stress, specific injuries to the body or the psyche, as well as spiritual needs of the patient.
While I love treating children, I also enjoy treating adults. However, my first preference is to treat the mother and/or father and child together. We often find there is a resonance - when the parent’s health and emotional wellbeing improve, so does that of her child, and vice versa. In mainstream medicine, we are led to believe that health is an absence of symptoms. In actual fact, one may have diseases long before symptoms appear. Even when there are no physical symptoms, there is the patient’s state of emotional wellbeing to consider. Heilkunst Medicine encompasses mind, body, soul and spirit. Together with the patient, we create a timeline of all their life’s traumas, both physical and emotional, with the concept that emotional traumas trigger physical disease and vice versa. While using homeopathic remedies to treat both timeline traumas and physical and mental symptoms, this comprehensive system of medicine treats the whole person and annihilates the root causes of their diseases, instead of merely addressing symptoms. This treatment will lead you on a unique, personal journey toward health and wholeness.

‘Melanie’ was a 12-year-old girl who suffered from separation anxiety disorder. Having been a victim of domestic abuse, she was fearful of finding ‘bad guys’ in her closet and wherever she ventured. If she would go to a girlfriend’s home for a sleepover, by midnight she would invariably call her mother in a panic and insist on coming home. Within nine months of starting treatment, she was

“Recently I travelled to British Colombia for the summer. Upon returning I had noticed a fungal infection on my upper chest around the collar bone area. I’ve been back almost two months and the dryness has not gone; in fact it’s gotten worse. I’ve tried many medications and anti-fungal creams, but I know the cause lies much deeper and is attached to some emotional tie. I suppose my question is how can I heal my skin and have it go back to the way that it had been before I left the province?” BB, Edmonton by Donna Reilly Reiki Master/Teacher
fear and possibly some feelings that you have had buried for a while.
It appears you have already answered your own question! It has been proven that our bodies will react with physical symptoms to an emotional reaction from circumstances or situations that have transpired in our lives. If you want your skin to go back to the way it had been before, check in with your emotional body as to what happened either before the trip or during the trip.
Your story is very vague so I would have to ask what happened on this trip? Was there some drama (experiences) that made you feel threatened?
Quite often fungus is in relation to something that you are refusing to let go of from the past. Maybe you need to look at some of your beliefs; maybe they are no longer in alignment with your true self. Also rashes are emotionally connected to an irritation of something. Since you are already aware that this has an emotional tie, this also can be connected to anxiety,
by Dale Pierce Jin Shin Do® Teacher The short answer is that you can only heal your skin when you deal with the underlying emotional issue. I would want to ask you what was going on in your life from before the time that you left the province until now. I would also want to assess the condition of several major acu-points on your body. The first area that I would want to assess are the lung points and bladder points related to the lungs. The lung meridian has a large influence on the condition of the skin, and also the body hair. Imbalance in this meridian include either inhibition of emotions and/or sorrow, grief and selfjudgment. The synergic emotions (what we would want to bring up or move into) are openness and willingness to let go of old hurts. by Tammie Quick Doctor of Homeopathy and Heilkunst Miasms are chronic, deep-seated homeopathic disease states that we inherit from our ancestors. There are nine confirmed ones and each has a ‘season’. Psorinum season generally corresponds with autumn. It is all about ‘lack’ and shows up as dry, itchy skin. Other guiding symptoms are chilliness, fatigue, carbohydrate cravings and sadness. While your symptoms may indeed be related to a deeper emotional tie - someone that made contact with this part of your skin somehow while you were on your trip (hugs or massages maybe) - they are likely part of Psorinum too. Note: This information is for educational purposes only. It is intended to supplement your current health program, not to replace the care of a licensed medical doctor.

As you have already stated, you have tried medications and creams and this is not working. Any energy modality will work, but I work with Reiki/Hypnosis and have found this helps get to the root of the experience. Be aware that these things do not happen because you have done something wrong - instead see this as an opportunity to evolve and grow. The second area I would look at would be kidney points. Kidney energy is depleted when we live in fear and apprehension and when we allow a fear to rule our life. The synergic emotions related to kidneys are resolution and trust. Both of these meridians have a profound effect on the upper chest area and I would want to work with these meridians, as well as the strange flows, to help you balance the energy flows in your body and release the old emotions that are preventing you from living fully. Often we aren’t aware of these miasms, but the trip to BC (or more specifically) leaving someone behind in BC ‘awoke the beast’. Chronic lack of money, lack of basic survival needs, dehydration, lack of love, lack of hope, etc., all qualify as basic themes that stem from this disease state. So it was likely triggered by “lack of touch from a specific person.” A Heilkunst physician will treat the Psorinum state, the loss/grief state and give appropriately chosen homeopathathic remedies for symptom control, in order to resolve this health condition. Tammie Quick, DMH, DHHP, practices Homeopathy and Heilkunst at the Quick Health Clinic in St. Albert, AB. Call 780-221-6127, tammie@quick-health.ca or www.quick-health.ca. Helping parents protect their children “What we are doing does not work. Children are being damaged.” I quote those words from a paper written by Justice Andrea Moen. She is passionate about reforming the current family justice system to protect children from harmful effects of the traditional adversarial process used by many families during their divorce. I share her passion. The brain is not formed purely as a consequence of genetic coding. While DNA contains the genetic program, the way the genes are expressed is a function of the environment. There is no longer a debate about nature versus nurture; brain development is a result of both. For healthy brain development, children require love, structure and stability to provide a nourishing environment to feel safe and secure. When children do not feel safe their amygdala (the primitive part of the brain) takes over from the frontal cortex (the area of the brain responsible for rational thought). Neurons in the brain change in response to the external environment. The amygdala tells us there is a threat and sends messages to the body in the form of increased adrenalin and cortisol. The body responds by fighting, freezing or fleeing. This adaptation allows us to survive and it is also the reason that trauma can damage the structure and process of the brain. The amygdala is particularly sensitive to stress in infancy and early childhood. Childhood adversity produces long lasting structural and functional changes in the amygdala. With prolonged exposure to stress, the brain is exposed to elevated levels of cortisol, which over time will change the way the brain functions. While such brain changes may be adaptive in the short term, over time there is an impact on the person’s ability to regulate stress and fear responses and they are more likely to develop anxiety and disorders like post-traumatic stress disorder and depression. Children may have difficulty concentrating and learning, problems with short term memory and difficulty controlling their emotions. Chronically elevated levels of stress hormones can also increase the risk of obesity, heart disease, liver and lung disease, stroke, diabetes and addictions.
powerful action divorcing parents can take to protect their children is to not expose them to adult arguments. It is not the divorce itself that harms children, but rather the exposure to prolonged and unresolved conflict. Exposure to toxic environmental stress not only impacts the brains of children, research shows that DNA is also modified and these children will pass these adverse changes in their DNA to their children. The traditional adversarial process used in the courts requires divorcing parents to fight against each other and exacerbates the conflict between them. The very nature of the adversarial process creates a toxic environment for the children of these warring parents. Inner Child Heart Energy © Jayna Simpson
by Deanna Koebernick Collaborative Family Lawyer & Mediator
When parents make the decision to divorce, it is imperative that the children are protected from the effects that conflict has on children’s developing brains. The parents have the challenging task of continuing to provide the components of a safe and loving environment and a loving parental and child relationship while they are simultaneously ending their relationship as husband and wife. In the midst of deciding how to divide their property and manage the finances, the children’s well-being must be the absolute priority. Ironically the parents must strengthen their co-parenting relationship while at the same time effacing the marriage. As a friend of mine said: “I have never worked so hard on a relationship that I wasn’t in.” Mediation and collaborative divorce are child centered processes that help parents resolve issues without resorting to the courts. Exposure to parental conflict creates a toxic environment for children. No parent would knowingly dose their kids with a bit of poison each day. And yet, parents who fight continuously in front of their children do just that. The most www.MosaicMagazine.ca

A journey of empowerment by Jackie Pearce Wholistic Practitioner One of my clients was finding that her energy was so strong, she was having difficulty controlling it. In fact, it was limiting her ability to attend events. She wasn’t fully able to understand what was going on or why her energy was always so big and ‘out there’. She came for a session to explore this. During her first session the aura scan that I performed indicated that her Earth Star chakra was not being activated by her energetic system. Instead her energy would only circulate through the upper portions of her body, from about her Sacral chakra to her Soul Star chakra. This was one of the biggest issues for us to address. We needed to get her energy to fully circulate through her physical body. Having your energy in only specific areas of your body means that your being isn’t able to fully utilize your energy. When you ‘live’ in your higher chakras (Third Eye,
Crown and Soul Star chakra) you are extremely connected to Source, intuition and the subtler aspects of life. However if you aren’t bringing this energy down into your body, there is no vessel to utilize this energy. Our Root chakra is one of the most important chakras for ‘getting stuff done’. If this chakra isn’t connected to your higher chakras, all those wonderful ideas you have (all your intuition and creativity) will never manifest; it will live only as a dream, never taking form. For this particular client, her energy was very active in her Third Eye and Soul Star chakras, but she lacked a connection to the lower half of her body - which is why she would quickly become physically ill and unable to sleep after events. Her energy was too high up and had no way out. Many of her initial sessions were focused on bringing her awareness into her body. As a very spiritually centered and aware individual, her energy often resided in her Third Eye and Crown chakras but was not fully circulating throughout her body. Her soul essence was very much aware of her Earth Star chakra, however her physical body had never been properly introduced. During one of our sessions together we focused solely on her Earth Star chakra. Your Earth Star chakra connects you to Mother Earth. When you are connected to your Earth Star chakra you will be very present. You will feel her strength, her essence and her strong presence. As dwellers of the Earth, we have a very deep connection to Mother Earth physically as well as energetically. We are often connected physically but not always energetically.

Your Earth Star charka is also a bridge to your ancestral past, as well as your past lives. It is generally located about six to 12 inches below your feet. It is a part of your extended chakra system. Using visualization techniques my client became familiar with what her Earth Star chakra felt like and what it had to offer her as part of this journey to gain control over her energy. We also checked in to see what was needed from her Earth Star chakra to feel supported and appreciated by her body. Once she was familiar with her Earth Star chakra, her energy became more easily controlled and she eventually was able to channel her energy into her Earth Star chakra to avoid dizziness, nausea and other physical symptoms which she often struggled with. In addition, my client found that with her new awareness she was also able to activate her energy easily, which allowed her to be more effective in

utilizing it. She could direct her energy where she wanted it to go. She was able to hold sacred space for herself and could also facilitate that for others. She also had the ability to turn her energy down when she was finished, which meant a good night’s sleep for her! During this whole process it also became quite apparent that she needed to work on creating more energetic boundaries so that she would not be so affected by the energy of those around her, especially when she wanted to be able to focus on using her energy for specific things (and not have it focused on self-protection). At this point we began to shift our attention from her ability to amplify or lessen her energetic flow and channeling it into her Earth Star chakra, to focusing on creating stronger energetic boundaries. This allowed her to be strong in her own power and energy without being influenced by the energy of those around her. Throughout her journey she was given homework exercises. At the end of each session we always discussed what occurred during the session. We also always talked about what was needed in order to make progress and achieve goals. This client was always very diligent, doing all of her homework and often giving herself homework too. Once the homework was completed she would come for her next session. Many aspects of her homework were focused around using her breath to move her energy and to see her energy flowing through her body and out of her body into her Earth Star chakra. Here is a visualization that you can do to connect with your Earth Star chakra. Begin by being comfortable, sitting or lying down is likely the best, especially for your first time! Close your eyes and connect with your breath. Really feel your inhales and exhales. Notice how much space is inside of you as you breathe in and recognize how nice it is to exhale and release. Now as you breathe in, use that inhalation to bring your energy to one place - it could be your heart, throat abdomen; wherever feels right. On your exhale really sink your energy, bringing it down through your body. Now bring your awareness to the soles of your feet. Feel the space between the soles of your feet and the Earth. Breathe into this space. Now breathe out of the soles of your feet and deeper. You will feel your Earth Star chakra. It is often an egg shape, usually a golden rusty colour. You may feel golden cords from your feet connecting to your Earth Star chakra. Once you feel your Earth Star chakra, just sink into it. Be here in this space. Feel the strength of Mother Earth and enjoy this feeling of safety and comfort. Make awesome money as a healer It drives me absolutely crazy to hear healers say: “It’s not about the money.” When I hear this, it’s a huge red flag to me that says the healer is playing small. Now more than ever it’s time to leave ‘playing small’ around money behind. We are in a powerful time on the planet and the Universe wants you to step up! There has never been a more powerful time in history to play big as a healer. Humanity is facing a time of transition and immense challenge. Deep transformation and healing is required. Many are lost and confused by the challenges they face. They don’t have the tools and wisdom you have that have allowed you to flourish through your challenges. They need help. They need you! Will you step up to be there for them? There has been good reason to play small as a healer in the past. Throughout history many have been hurt, attacked or even killed for being different. Powerful spiritual gifts were often kept hidden to stay safe. If you look around now, you see that we are in a different time era. Sure, not everyone understands healing and intuitive work. Yet no one, at least not in North America, is really being publicly shamed, hurt or killed over doing this different work. If it does happen it is extremely rare.
For a healer: INCOME = IMPACT. You cannot create income as a healer, without also creating impact. You literally get paid to create transformation. So let’s go back to ‘playing small’. Playing small with your income means playing small with your impact. Playing small with money, not stepping up to make amazing money in your healing business, means playing small with your transformation you’re here to create.

I believe that 6-figures is the minimum to what you can create in your business. That means as a minimum you are meant to generate $100,000 in sales. Anything less is playing small. As the owner of a multi-6-figure healing business I clearly see that I have barely scratched the surface on the transformation I can create in the world. I believe it’s the same for you. You are meant to have a 6figure healing business - at the minimum. It’s time to step up. It’s time to do what you came here to do and to be all that you came here to be. Playing small with money no longer serves you or your people. Do what it takes to step up and to be there for your people, those who are struggling right now without your help.

The fact is you were called to create a healing business. Yes, business! The entire purpose of a business from a practical viewpoint is to make money. If no money is made, it's not really a business. So how are you different? As a healer, when you make money, it means your clients lives are transforming. To make it even more clear, look at it this way…

Soul Questions © Carol Breen
My last three jobs have included some type of bullying. In the first job, I was supervising a bully who desperately wanted my job. In the next job, the managers demanded more and more - to the point where I worked five weeks of overtime in a three month period. In my present job, my boss is an outright bully. He’s only been there for three weeks and, without any input from staff, is making huge changes which are upsetting everyone including me. I’m really looking for advice on how to deal with bullies effectively and is this something I am attracting into my life? PT, Edmonton

It is unfortunate but you will always have strong personalities in your world; it is part of the journey you have chosen. Your response to those influences, and your reaction to the changes that they bring, are what I would like you to work on.
It’s easy to feel threatened by life situations. The trick is to dig deeper into their cause and see all the disempowering events as a sign that our ‘soul’ is tapping us on the shoulder as it attempts to get our attention to something!
I really feel that this goes deeper than the bullying you’ve experienced, with some ties to whatever is going on in your personal life. When those that are close to us (like family and friends) cannot show us (or we cannot see) what we need to change in our lives, the Universe will bring in those that can help us.
The first stones I want you to work with are the strength giving garnet and black onyx. They will give you confidence and calm in tense situations. You can also use bloodstone to help adapt to change and dispel the confusion in any given situation. This beautiful green and red stone will help you to confidently handle difficult situations. Crystal blue celestite will assist you with the communication side of dealing with strong personalities. It helps with conflict resolution and communication. By combining celestite with clear quartz crystal, and using them as a pair, you will discover an incredibly cleansing stone combination that encourages clear thinking and open communication.
For most of us, difficulties result when we attempt to repeat past karmic patterns from other lifetimes. Indications in your chart suggest that this may be what is happening. Underneath your detachment and isolation tendencies, there lies a strong desire to be independent and a ‘free spirit’, not possessed or held back by limitations. Consider giving yourself permission to listen to the intuitive and creative voice of your Soul that just might be nudging you to explore and develop other vistas of reality. If you ignore this, and become consumed with past betrayals, overanalysis, attachment to comfort and over-concern with security, stagnation and low energy will be the result.
Lastly, I recommend you begin each day with a blue kyanite. The balance and alignment of this gentle stone will bring serenity into your day, giving you a great start each morning. I see a powerful woman just waiting to surface. Let her out!
It’s highly likely that the purpose of your emotional pain and discontent is to wake you up to the possibility of a new chapter soon to begin. Over the next two years, if you choose to focus your energy on exploring and expressing your unique creative gifts, there’s no telling where it could lead!

Sometimes when we are resistant to change, the Universe gets pushy. For example, in your first job, could it be that she was there to just help you to move on from a job that wasn’t for you anyway? Same with the second job. I know myself I had a job where I didn’t get a weekend off for three months but I truly loved my work so much that I didn’t mind a bit. You didn’t love that job and it took a lot for the Universe to once again get you to move on. Now you’re in another job and you’re being forced to change. I think the question really is this the right place for you? Or is there something bigger and better calling you but you’re too afraid to change careers, paths, directions? It’s really about finding your true happiness, being open to allow change and seeing the brighter side of what the Universe is bringing you! Seeing clearly without glasses by Summer Bozohora Natural Vision Specialist
Concise Dictionary of Modern Medicine (The Parthenon Publishing Group, 2002).
The answer to the reason for vision loss and the way to improve it is exactly the same light.
Our beliefs and perceptions about ourselves, about how to give and receive in the world, began with the feeling tone of care that we receive as an infant. As an open receptive newborn we draw in feelings and images, thoughts and flashes of understanding through our gentle impressionistic, intuitive and spongy, absorbent being.
Light striking the structures of the eye represents an energetic process. And light: “shaped into recognizable images, stimulates and interacts with your memories of past events. In this respect, vision is anything but passive… Our minds filter and interpret these sensations. They even make judgments that determine what is acceptable and unacceptable; that is, what we will allow ourselves to see and what we will reject or deny,” according to Dr. Roberto Kaplan in his book Conscious Seeing (Beyond Words Publishing, 2002). The light that we allow to enter our eyes changes with each and every thought we have and can be observed and measured with a retinoscope (a device that will show where the light rays fall at the back of the eye.) Light that can be observed on the retina is called a light reflex. Dr. Kaplan explains: “The degree of reflex I saw in the retina was dependent on the patient’s participation. If the person was trying to see, was unfocused, or changed his or her thought sequences, the retinal reflex changed… From this, I could see that the person’s thoughts and feelings were literally dictating the amount of light that was projected through the eye.” A refractive error is the “inability of images (light) to focus properly on the retina,” according to the McGraw-Hill

Dr. Willliam Bates, an ophthalmologist in the early 1900’s observed through a retinoscope that a baby’s eyes would change from farsighted to nearsighted and have bouts of astigmatism in the matter of minutes or hours! Babies literally play with their visual sensations because perception hasn’t yet formed their minds. Wapasa (Leader-Who-Wears-The-Red-Head Dress) © Karen Goodfellow — www.karengoodfellow.ca
I've been passionate about vision improvement for many years, specifically created a center dedicated to improvement, because I believe that we can change our eyes’ visual acuity simply by becoming more aware of how both light and our emotional states literally affect the way we see things.
Like babies, our visual system remains fairly flexible until stressful life events (that we are not able to fully integrate emotionally) develop into patterns or visual habits that create visual and nervous system tension. Clients are usually fitted with their first pair of prescription lens glasses six to 18 months afterward.
In the past it was easy for us to confuse other’s thoughts and feelings with ours, so we absorbed anger, confusion, depression and the worthlessness of others as if it were our own. Doing this for such a prolonged period of time (without any tools to circumvent the effect) distorts the seer’s inner world. Visual blur is often a really clever way for people to mirror their own sense of internal distortion - a numbed, blurred, overwhelmed sense of self. “Since about 80% of body tension is carried in the eyes, once we connect more to our eyes, we are able receive the nourishment that has been lacking,” says Dr. Sam Berne, optometrist (www.samberne.com). www.MosaicMagazine.ca

So what do glasses do? Lenses change the way our eyes bring in light and therefore also change our perceptions. “By encouraging us to only look straight ahead, glasses become a highly effective tool that trains the eyes (and mind) to remain in one position - they literally teach us to view reality through a single fixed point of view… The more we wear our glasses, the more we learn to judge our world rather than feel it, the more we lose our innate ability to sense its wholeness... Our mind’s eye begins to embody the old worldview: ‘Don’t feel anything. Don’t express anything. Don’t think for yourself. Just follow the rules.’ Our visual ‘crutches’ seem perfectly designed to adapt us to life in the old paradigm and as long as we wear them, it becomes much more difficult to break free of our self-limitations,” according to Jacob Liberman, Take Your Glasses Off and See (Three Rivers Press, 1995). One of my clients, Kerri Glendining, shared how she was able to shed some of her self-limitations while also reducing her prescription and need for glasses. “After just one visit with Summer at the Natural Vision Improvement Centre, my awareness increased and my prescription decreased dramatically. So much so that the optometrist informed me that the glasses I was so attached to, and felt I needed in order to see, were too strong for me (from 1.75 to -0.75).” She continued: “Now I use glasses rarely, whereas I used to wear them every day, all day long. I now see how my vision fluctuates. By becoming aware of when I feel I need to wear my glasses (like when I was angry or under social pressure) I was able to learn how to sit and be present with discomfort. By doing that I was able to breathe and release old ideas, which has allowed my vision to clear.”
indescribable happiness. I found light and joy at the same moment, and I can say without hesitation that from that time on light and joy have never been separated in my experience. I have had them or lost them together.” When we interrupt these ineffective visual-emotional patterns and deeply listen in a present state, (in addition to processing our experiences through INOWT meditation, which is what I did to primarily heal my own vision), we are able to uncover more of our core self and see more clearly within and without. In summary, from my experience, the four most effective ways to improve our retinal reflex and reduce our visual system stress include: 1. INOWT Meditation - you can find this at our website at www.ImproveEyesightNaturally.ca 2. Non-Violent Communication - a deeply thoughtful way of communicating through the universal needs that all human beings share. More at www.cnvc.ca 3. Time and Money Management - more information at www.McQuireFinancial.ca 4. No matter what level of sight we are trying to reclaim, whether it be from a need for glasses or degenerative eye disease, a certain degree of psychological crisis or reintegration is inevitable at any level of sight reclamation whether we are blind or myopic; it is a matter of degree. Being willing to receive light with a true desire to become more aware of your perceptions of life is of paramount importance even if you are blind! Jacques Lessuryan, as a young boy, was in a tragic accident where he lost his sight. In his book And There Was Light: Autobiography of Jacques Lusseyran, (Morning Light Press, 1963), he explained very clearly his perception of light (the light reflex) that he could perceive after going blind. “After losing my sight (at the age of eight) there was anguish, a lack, something like a void which filled me with what grown-ups call despair. Finally, one day, I realized that I was looking in the wrong way. I began to look more closely, not at things but at a world closer to myself, looking from an inner place to one further within, instead of clinging to the movement of sight toward the world outside. Immediately, I was aware of a radiance emanating from a place I knew nothing about - a place which might as well have been outside me as within. But radiance was there, or to put it more precisely, light. I felt www.MosaicMagazine.ca

Learning to create your own medicine by Sarah Salter-Kelly Spiritual Healer I see life as a cup overflowing with opportunity. Each ingredient I place therein becomes an instrument to manifest my intentions, my desire to grow, awaken and become a deeper tool for the service of humanity. I need magic in my life, ceremony, Divine connection, community and family. I need to remember that I do not have all the answers and am always capable of learning new things and living in a new way. So this is what I place in my cup. Each time I drink from it, my world expands in subtle ways. It is the process of mixing, tasting, swallowing and digesting that opens me to the ever-changing dream of reality.
In each weekend process you will make a mandala in the forest or field with objects from nature, as a reflection of who you are - creating your own personal space to meditate, go within and practice using what you are learning. Objects will be added to the mandala (coinciding with our exercises and teachings or by nature) giving you an opportunity to notice symbolically how you either add to your growth or perhaps negate it. As co-creator of your reality, when you are able to see what gets in the way, you have the power to change it. Deep satisfaction is realized through the creation of your own ceremonial tools. They are acts of power in themselves, that use the energy they call forth to speak to your spiritual nature. We will create a smudge wand - to learn the art of purification, a drum - to call forth our medicine name and power animal, and a medicine bag to hold our sacred stones and tools.
It never ceases to amaze me that I have the power to do this. Each and every one of us has the power to do this. To choose, create and allow for the processes (we need to awaken to our full potential) and live a life filled with magic and awe… daily. I call this creating ‘medicine’. What we place in our cup is who we become. The path we walk on a daily basis directs the actions and tools we use. Making Medicine Tools
The ‘Shaman’s Path’ is training I have created to guide people in facilitating this process for themselves. It is based on the teachings of the Medicine Wheel - a body of knowledge and wisdom found at the heart of many indigenous teachings. It will use symbolism, ritual, ceremony and circles to cultivate a system of walking before each of the four cardinal directions, and the Divine, guiding us to reveal our souls and to foster experiences which sustain that light.
Shamanic Journey at Sacred Tree
It will be run over the course of one year (in four 4-day weekends) to ensure that you have the time needed to digest your experience and root it in the reality of your day to day living.

Mosaic Magazine — Winter 2014
We will begin on the equinox weekend with the East. It is here that we tap into the vision of the Condor/Eagle and the ‘Medicine of the Stars’ - our own star to be exact. In the same way that the sun (our most familiar star) rises and sets a path of renewal each day, we will call forth the light of our greatest potential to illuminate who we are, and ask for our experience in the next year to originate from this light. It is the realm of innocence, wonderment and awe - essential tools in cultivating a heart-centered focus. Sacred space, how to create it, what it is, what it means and why it is a foundational part of creating ceremony are covered here. It is your voice and your prayers that activate the Sacred within your life. Therefore we’ll use processes that will engage the use of your voice, opening your throat and naming what you want in our ceremony of initiation. The rhythm of the drum connects you to the heartbeat of Mother Earth and to the element of the South, the ‘Medicine of Fire’. The time of the summer solstice is when who we are in form (Sacred Masculine) is realized. Here we welcome the ‘Medicine of the Great Serpent’ to guide us in shedding the stories that no longer serve us. Through sacred journey you will receive your own power animal. You will spend time embodying this www.MosaicMagazine.ca

animal outside, learning how to walk, move and experience reality through its eyes, tasting its medicine. Its symbol will be placed upon your drum and activated in our fire ceremony. Your medicine name is an ancient call to your spirit, welcoming the animate aspects you will need to awaken your deepest truth. We all have at least one and it is possible to find it on our own in a journey with fire. At sunset on the Saturday night, each person will take a flame from our community fire to awaken the light in their personal fires and call forth their medicine name - sitting with their fire until it burns to ash and the name is found. The cougar comes to us from the West and teaches us to navigate the domains of our souls fearlessly, as it walks with beauty, power and precision. It teaches us to have faith that (as the sun sets into the west each night and we move into the darkest part of the year) we can give ourselves permission to surrender to that darkness and allow for it to bring forth its wisdom. This direction holds our emotional body, the element of water.
Hummingbird’ - the element of earth and place where the Sacred Feminine is realized. It is here that we hold the bare essentials of reality - the bones of our life experience and who we are (stripped down from who we thought we should be) and become aware of what we are truly made of. The Sacred Feminine comprises our wild and spiritual nature, allowing us to recognize the many ways our physical form is imbued with Spirit. That weekend’s focus will be about coming into ourselves, gathering together all we have awakened throughout the year and consciously putting it into the medicine bags we are making. In the same way the hummingbird drinks from the sweetest flowers, we are gathering the sweetness of our medicine together and creating our own healing bundle.
We will also learn the ceremony of ‘Death Rites’ - a process in which we will release from our body concepts of who we should be and allow ourselves to accept the beauty of our spirit and the beauty of our body. This will be followed immediately by a purification lodge where we Prayer with Smoke to Four Directions enter the ‘belly of the mother’ and cleanse ourselves with the steam rising from the stones. When we leave the lodge, There are two ways in which we will implement the we consciously birth ourselves anew. ‘Medicine of the Cougar’ in this program. First is through the act of a fire walk. Calling up what we have learned of And so it is, that as the wheel turns, we are again in the fire medicine in the past six months, and with the East. Our cups will be full with the magic we have brewed guidance of a professional firewalker, we will each walk and ready to satiate our soul’s thirst. over a 10 foot bed of coals. Then we will go to a sacred mountain (large hill) near my home in a natural wilderness area that is in fact home to many cougars. There we will each find a place to sleep for the night outside and will set up our own personal water altars. Our intention will be to have the mountain guide us in witnessing ourselves (in particular our emotional body) and other places within where we have been stuck.

How toxic are you? We are all toxic to some degree so the question is not are you toxic, but how toxic are you and where? Each of us is overwhelmed inside by toxins from the foods and drinks we consume. Even our body care products can be toxic, as they are ingested into our skin and lymphatic system. Then there are endless environmental toxins and heavy metals. Plus, add stress as another major toxin. Our body’s seven channels of elimination (colon, skin, lungs, kidneys, liver, lymph and blood) are extremely efficient normally. However, when they are so overwhelmed with toxins, the body starts to recirculate the toxins it can’t get rid of, producing yet more toxins due to the imbalance and the fight inside to stay healthy. Toxins and stress degenerate each and every cell and system in the body, physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually each and every day. It is toxins and stress that are the underlying cause of 97% of all ill health or dis-ease. Every symptom from bad breath to cancer are toxin related. Some toxins are obvious and some are not. Bug spray is an obvious toxin with a poison label right on it. Did you know the same chemicals in bug spray (insecticides) are sprayed on all vegetables and fruit (when growing) that you buy at the everyday grocery stores? They accumulate in your body with disastrous affects inside over time, which is sneakier than a shot of bug spray. Do your own inventory of what you come into contact with in just one day. Read the ingredients in everything you eat or ingest. Or better yet, eat fresh, organic fruits and vegetables (no ingredient list!) and avoid packaged or fast food altogether.
Consider also, when chewing, that silver fillings leach mercury (an obvious poison) into your body over time, especially your adrenal and thyroid tissue. This was a direct link to my own adrenal fatigue and thyroid insufficiency. Caffeine and fluoride are sneakier toxins. They can pass easily through the blood brain barrier creating new toxins in the brain called neurotoxins, which can be the actual cause of depression. But they aren’t the only sneaky things that are toxic to our blood. “Any chemical you can smell in the air makes its way into your bloodstream,” says Dr. Sherry A. Rogers, Detoxify or Die, (Prestige Publishing, Dec 2002).

Here are some things you can easily do to help detoxify. To promote elimination for all channels daily drink two to three litres of quality water (not tap water). Add fresh squeezed lemon. Consume two tablespoons of ground flax, with one teaspoon of psyllium in eight ounces of water, and then drink another eight ounces of water, twice daily. Add Zeolite drops or Food Grade Hydrogen Peroxide drops, or both, daily to alkalize and detox. Go 80% alkaline on foods and SLOW DOWN!
My absolute passion since 1997, for myself and clients, has been finding ways to lighten our ‘toxin load’ and our stress levels with Colon Hydrotherapy, Lymph Therapy and Biofeedback Therapy. Biofeedback Therapy can help by identifying what system your toxins are in: digestive, lymphatic, blood, respiratory, immune, cardiovascular, urinary and reproduction, pituitary, endocrine or where else? It then uses frequencies to detox and put the body back in balance, physically, emotionally, mentally and even spiritually. Also, avoid dairy products as they are hugely detrimental for the digestive system as shown clearly in medical studies - the opposite of what we are told. They actually cause osteoporosis and clog up the colon royally. Check the ingredient list in your skin care, deodorant and even hair dye as those chemicals/heavy metals enter your lymphatic system through your skin. Ever feel swollen, puffy? That’s a toxic lymph system.

Grasping the treasure before you In each lifetime we enter we bring all experiences, completed and incomplete, that we have created. Every life experience contains essential lessons for our wisdom, our Akashic library, essential because we require them to grow so we can become more of who we really are. Growth of our soul (evolution) is ultimately the only goal, the only reason for ‘coming back’. ‘Completed’ experiences have yielded their lessons and can be visualized as little bubbles floating along with us, while those not complete are like claws dragging behind us. The more valuable/urgent the attached lesson (and requirement for its completion) the deeper the ‘claw’ drags, holding us back until the lesson is gained. As someone begins to awaken to their spiritual Self, being held back gets their attention. If not addressed, the level of ‘signs and symptoms’ increases, ultimately expressing in the physical body. A sign of an incomplete/urgent experience is repeated behaviors or circumstances in life that just don’t seem to go away, no matter what. The names, locations and faces change but the circumstances and results are too similar to be missed. A good example would be a recurring pattern of self sabotage with relationships, money or career success. One client repeatedly terminated and abandoned intimate relationships as soon as the new lover was ready to commit. The client would then seek out the next one almost immediately and once again repeat the pattern. The origin of this aspect/pattern was related to a lifetime in the mid 1200’s. Once the experience was completed (in a hypnotherapy session) and the lesson gained, the client was freed to form a permanent loving intimate relationship and has done so.
Although anyone CAN be hypnotized, no one who chooses NOT to be hypnotized, can be. The conscious mind is always in control unless it agrees to relinquish control by following the direction of the hypnotherapist. This occurs only when the client truly desires the transition and trusts the therapist. The Law of Free Will cannot be violated. One or two sessions of guided hypnotic regression are usually all that is necessary.

The current times of transition we are living now, between the old energy (pre-2012) and the new (2015-on), are releasing the hidden and the buried. More and more incomplete experiences are rising to the surfaces of peoples’ minds to be completed, releasing them from the past and offering them access to the treasures of their enormous potential in the ‘Now’.
There is a poster that portrays a woman, hands full to the brim with pebbles, while she stands before a chest of priceless gems, silver and gold. She sees herself as a child in the mirror behind the chest. Not until she releases now what she has been carrying, can she grasp the treasures before her. I know this woman/child. She is each of US. Hypnotherapy, using past life regression, is one means of searching out and completing ‘incomplete’ experiences. It involves tracking the experience back to its origin (when a situation was overwhelming to the soul) and then completing it now, in this lifetime, using all the resources accessible to this more mature soul. www.MosaicMagazine.ca

The unity of the Crown chakra by Catherine Potter Astrologer and Hypnotherapist The Crown chakra is our main information center - the brain so to speak. There are two types of information connected to the Crown chakra. One is information that shapes our values and beliefs which we use to create form in our lives. The other type of information is what we call cosmic intelligence which has us exploring and looking for answers beyond, not only the material world, but the illusion of separateness.
One path leads us to the path of manifestation and being in the world, while the other leads us to the path of liberation where we expand beyond the limits of physical reality. THE PATH OF MANIFESTATION - If one were to ask the question: “Who am I?” it would begin to connect them with the energy of the Crown chakra that spirals down into the world of form and manifestation. From the moment we first lay in our mother’s womb, we began to learn about ourselves through our mother’s mental, emotional and physical environment. Our prenatal experience combined with information gathered in our developmental years (through people we encounter, family, school, etc.) shapes our values and beliefs which are the building blocks of our life. The “I” learned it was a female, male, a particular race, culture, skin color, religion, intelligent, stupid, rich, poor and so on. Based on these pieces of information we create our inner/ outer world. Each time we go through a period of learning, in whatever form it takes, we are forced to re-adjust our perception of who we are, thereby opening the door for change in our outer world. Therefore if a person exposes themselves to only that which is tried and familiar, then their world stays smaller. The opposite is also true. The more one expands their horizons, the more one’s world view and possibilities grow. THE PATH OF LIBERATION - The other type of information connected to the Crown chakra is knowledge that is more universal in nature. Here, ideas and questions take us on a journey beyond the limits of physical reality.

Pondering some of the following ideas and questions takes you into the cosmic realm of the Crown chakra. As I’ve mentioned in previous articles, it is important to be well grounded in the lower chakras before exploring the Brow and Crown chakras so that we can navigate through the vast cosmic ocean and still be present and centered in the world.

Go back to the question: “Who am I?” but add: “when I’m not this personality”? “Who was I before I was born in this lifetime? Who am I when I’m not in physical body?” When you strip away all the labels and possessions you identify yourself by, who are you? Does the “I” still exist when not in a physical body? In order for a baby to be born into the world, it must die out of the only life it has known - the womb. Yet we celebrate a birth. Is it possible that a very similar thing happens when we die back out of this world? Are we not also simultaneously experiencing a birth? If so, are death and birth only doorways that transition us between the perspective of form or formlessness? It is only when we hold the illusion of separateness that we limit ourselves. Without that illusion our idea of “I” grows and encompasses everything which is the essence of the unified field. How would your perception and life change if you could hold the knowing of “I am that” meaning everything I see is an expression of one energy in all its various forms. These are interesting questions and ideas to ponder. When we participate in positive activities that allow us to experience an unbounded sense of self, we create a bridge between cosmic intelligence and our conscious mind. Our understanding and knowing continues to grow as we reach for ‘an experience of’ rather than ‘an explanation for’ unity and cosmic intelligence. We don’t have to die to experience the cosmic mind. For centuries sages and mystics have encouraged us to wake up while incarnated in a physical form. As we explore the mysteries of unity and universal mind we will get affirmations that separateness is an illusion of the mind. What do we do with that information? We enjoy the journey and continue to grow in our ability to navigate and co-create with universal, intelligent, creative mind. Mystery Schools and the Masters I’ve talked a lot about what the Mystery Schools and the Masters say isn’t true in recent articles, but I haven’t talked about what they say is true. The Mystery Schools are concerned with the evolution of the planet and everything on it. There is a process called initiation by which we as humanity can shorten this process and at the same time help our fellow beings to evolve. While this process is a lot shorter than the natural process, it still takes a great deal of dedication over many lifetimes to become what is called a Master. The term Master refers to a ‘Master of Wisdom’, a human being who has completed all five levels of initiation, is no longer bound to the physical plane and after (what we call death) continues to exist as a conscious being on a higher plane. A being who, when doing a healing, knows intuitively whether or not a person asking for healing can be healed and who can do healings with higher vibrational energies not available to us less evolved beings. Many people cannot be healed due to karma or the need to acquire life experiences. A Master knows this before he starts. He or she knows about the etheric body, the chakras, their different planes and the chakra’s evolution through these planes. He understands kundalini energy, its purpose, the antahkarana and its purpose. He understands the process of evolution through the different planes and levels of consciousness. He understands the purpose of the soul and the personality. He understands himself as a monad, a divine spark of God and one with God. That’s a lot to understand and it is all laid out in the books of Alice Bailey. These books are not easy to read or understand. Reading them won’t make you a Master but it will give you a new level of discernment about what is and isn’t possible and point a person in the direction of the path. Every time you re-read one of these books you learn many new things, as you are building on the knowledge you learned from previous readings.
I have spent seven years studying the books and with a number of mystical experiences (usually in the accompaniment of other people), I accept a great deal of the information as true. In 2004, I saw Master Mike Nator walk across a room and sit in a chair. He was a student of Master Djwal Kuhl, who channeled the books to Alice Bailey. Master Mike Nator died in 2003.

I have spent a great deal of time over many months putting together the teachings in a rudimentary form, complete with the charts from ‘A Treatise On Cosmic Fire’ for fellow meditators in a group I belong to. I’ve decided to offer a one day course, complete with booklet, on the teachings. As I am only a student I make no guarantees about what you will come away with; that is up to you. There will be a small cost to attend, to pay for the booklets and the rental space.
I taught basic Pranic Healing for a few years until 2007 and I’ve also decided to teach it again. The reason for this is because it is the only system that adheres to teachings of the chakras. The science of the chakras is called Laya Yoga. Master Choa Kok Sui and Master Mike Nator took the teachings, and along with other teachings, converted them into a usable form of healing. This took several years of daily experimentation. Master Nator observed clairvoyantly the chakras and changes in the chakras while Master Choa experimented and refined what he later taught and published. Master Choa also used other clairvoyants to independently confirm what was observed. Anyone can learn to feel energy and that is one of the first things taught. You learn to feel the size of your aura and others. Anyone can also become a healer but your proficiency increases with practice and your own evolution. In basic Pranic Healing you are taught the connection of the chakras to organs and glands. Pranic Healing also teaches about the virtues and karma. Having read most of the books written by the teachers of other systems I can safely say that it is the only indepth system on learning to use prana (chi, ki) in conjunction with the chakras in the healing of the human body and the evolution of conscious. If you are interested in learning more or taking either course, contact me at macwk@shaw.ca or by phone at 780-203-9189. Note: This information is for educational purposes only. Art that honors the past in the present by Karen Goodfellow Rusty things with moving parts. Miniature top hats. Fake deer horns. Old keys from past homes. Foreign currency. Old hair picks. Puckered paper from unknown packages.

It wouldn’t take a detective to deduce my life’s journey… one need only hang out in my studio. My endless tubs, boxes, crates, drawers, closets, shelves and bins contain an eclectic, eccentric and odd assortment of treasures and trash from bygone years. Paradoxically these bits are both sacred and irreverent. All is grist for the mill and can end up hidden in the layers of paint that make up my mixed media works. On a personal level, my journey has been to discover my past and see how it informs my present - good, bad, ugly and indifferent. My art is no different. I construct, destruct and reconstruct layers upon layers of paint with the aforementioned bumpy bits in order to honor and integrate the past in the present. I love the alchemy of turning hurtful, forgotten, ecstatic or memorable bits into something new, fresh and seen with new eyes. One thing I do is paint these layers and scrub them back, erase bits with alcohol (on the paper, not for me!), then readd new layers. Once I really fall in love with the background, I then I wait until the subject matter appears

to me. I have no preconceived idea of what it will show me. This part of my process can be anywhere from 20 minutes to eight years. I look at it from different angles and allow something to emerge, chalk it in, then paint it. My neurosis is alive and well during this process… doubt, fear, perfectionism, sloppiness, sadness, madness and points in between. Thankfully, it keeps me human. (Italian) With heart and soul
My experiences with Jesus by Connie Brisson
in the darkness of my room, I prayed to God. I told him that if I mattered then he needed to send me some help.
Jesus Christ.
The first time I remember Jesus was in a dream when I was about five-years-old. Earlier that day my Mom had carpet layers coming to the house and she specifically told my sister and I that she wanted us to be ‘good’ because it was going to be a stressful day. And I don’t know what happened next - I really think it was because she told us to be good that instead we acted like bloody monkeys jumping all over the place the whole time the carpet layers were there. We went crazy. When they left she was very angry, told us we had been bad and because I knew she was right, I was overcome with guilt (my Mom never got mad at us so this was terrible for me). This situation affected me so badly that I later had a dream that night from Spirit to help me. I dreamed that Jesus was at the top of a staircase, in a beautiful white, marble castle and he told me that I was good - that I wasn’t bad. That dream profoundly affected me for all of my life. I’ve never forgotten it. Although I grew up Catholic and later even became a born again Christian for a while, Jesus never came again to me like that until I was about 24-years-old and going to university in Victoria, B.C. I had graduated from Grant MacEwan the year before with my Journalism and decided to go to Victoria for their Creative Writing program. I thought that if I moved away, leaving behind the old (people, problems, pain), that my life would miraculously change and I would find the happiness that I was so desperately looking for. But what I found out there in Victoria was just more of the same and when I realized that, that maybe this was as good as it got (that there was no escaping it or myself, no matter how I changed my supporting cast), I came to a place of deep despair. One night, after an especially hard day, I was very depressed, wondering if this was how my life was always going to be and
34
Mosaic Magazine — Winter 2014
And then, that night, I had the most amazing dream. It was the end of the world and we were all being raised to the sky. I was so scared, but as I was being lifted I came towards a ‘Being of Light’ that was brighter than the sun. I quickly realized it was Jesus. And as I passed through him, I felt the most incredible pure love that I’ve ever felt in my life. That feeling of immense love immediately burrowed itself deep inside of me, into every cell of my body, changing me instantly. Even after the dream, I buzzed for days. It was a pivotal dream for me and I’ve never had a dream like it ever again.
Strings of Angels © Moncia Castro
I say that a lot some days... and not always because I’m praying. Sometimes it’s because I’m frustrated or depressed, but other times it’s because I know his name has great power.
Many years later, when Marcel and I bought our first house, we had some art on the floor that we had not yet had a chance to hang up. What happened next, I’ll never forget. Our little granddaughter, just two-yearsold, surprised me when she walked up to an icon of Jesus (that was sitting on the floor), lifted it up, kissed it and then put it back down before carrying on to play. I know that she did not know who Jesus was (no one in her family was religious, at all).
Then when our daughter Gabrielle was very small, between two and three-years-old, she used to come to me, every so often, and tell me that she had just seen Jesus walking by our house. That was a great shock to me (that she even knew that name, because I’d never even talked about Jesus) and we had never gone to church. We did have a picture of Jesus in our house - the same picture that our granddaughter had kissed about eight years earlier - but I don’t think I ever even told Gabrielle who that picture was. Then one day, when Gabrielle was about three-years-old, we did go to a church for a meeting and as soon as we walked into the church, she said to me, in awe: “Mom, Jesus lives here.” It was one of those moments you never forget because you know you’ve heard something so innocently profound. I believe there is a part of us that remembers Jesus or the energy of what Jesus represents (by whatever name we call it), when we come down here. And then as time goes by, we forget. But children and our dream-worlds can help to remind us that we have great help from the enormous energy of Jesus and many others from the Other Side. We just need to remember to ask… www.MosaicMagazine.ca
