In this Mosaic… However, I want to emphasize how important it is that you find a tarot reader that is knowledgeable, trustworthy and like-minded, because I’ve had a few experiences that weren’t so great. For instance, intuitive readers (like all people) can project their ‘issues’ if they aren’t clear-minded and grounded, so just be mindful to sift through the information you receive, always following your own gut and what resonates as true for you. With the tarot cards, it isn’t that I want to look into the future as much as I yearn to understand the issues at hand in my life. The archetypal images and messages of the tarot cards are like stories that I can learn and draw information from.
boccabellaphoto.com
Each tarot card has a major theme, like those in a novel or a movie. When I look at a tarot card, the vivid images tell me a story that helps me understand some aspect of my situation and life in general. It also helps me see that my situation (my strife or my glory) is also universal. There is no story that has not been told before or won’t be told again. We all experience the same things.
by Connie Brisson Although I’ve come a long way from the girl I used to be, and my life is filled with many blessings now, it has certainly not always been that way. I did not live some idyllic kind of life where the sun always shone or where things were always easy. I’ll be the first to admit that I grew up in a dysfunctional home and that I’ve had to overcome many challenges along the way (and I know that’s true for many people). I would still be that same lost girl if it had not been for the many spiritual, mystical, metaphysical and holistic things that I’ve learned that have helped me slowly transform my life, day by day. One of the ways I’ve helped myself whenever I’m in darkness, not understanding or knowing what to do next with a problem in my life, is to look to the tarot to seek mystical guidance/insights (with someone I trust like Skye MacLachlan). I grew up so scared of anything prophetic (like getting messages/help from anything like tarot) but in the last 20 years I’ve learned to respect tarot as a way of getting insights into problems where I am stuck. I can’t count the number of times in my life where I have gone for a tarot reading with Skye to try to break a destructive pattern in my life or to try to understand the deeper, karmic reason why certain patterns keep haunting me. And each time, I have some kind of a breakthrough due to that tarot reading.

Mosaic Magazine — Winter 2015
Starting this issue, Skye MacLachlan will be featuring a series of articles where she will choose a specific tarot card and then write about the particular aspects and information involved with that tarot card. It’s on page 17 this issue. But before reading her articles, I want Mosaic’s readers to formulate a question you want some guidance about, so that the information given about the tarot card can answer your question in some way or provide you with some insights that you may not have had otherwise. When forming a question, ask what you really want to know. Trust the first question that comes to you. There are no bad questions, however, stay away from ‘yes’ or ‘no’questions as these will limit the information you will receive. Then what I thought would even be more fun (and mystical) would be to do exactly the same thing at the next Mystic Meeting. It will work like this… each one of us will ask a question (to ourselves) and Skye will pull a tarot card and speak about all the divinatory aspects of it, so that we can get an answer or insights about our question. We can take some time after each card for people to ask Skye questions about the card, if they need more clarity and then when that is complete, we will ask another question and she will pull another card, and so on. Please join us on Thursday, December 3, from 7:00 - 9:30 p.m., at the Lucina Centre, 9505 - 163 Street, Edmonton. The cost is $20 cash at the door and please bring a gift wrapped book (with a mind/body/spirit theme) for a book exchange. RSVP by December 2 to mosaicmagazine@shaw.ca if you can come. Releasing destructive habits by Skye MacLachlan Feng Shui Consultant This is a transcendental Feng Shui cure for releasing destructive habits. A transcendental cure involves regular effort, usually a focused action at least once a day. As these actions are repeated, the accumulated energy produces profound and positive changes in one’s life. Decide upon a habit that you want to change. Name what the old habit is and the new behavior that you want to replace this old habit with. Then make a list of the negative ways the destructive habit is impacting your life. Write this list on a piece of paper that is plain and unattractive. Use your own handwriting or printing - don’t type it on the computer as it needs to be infused with your energy. Now make a list of how you’ll feel and how your life will change as you release the destructive habit. Write this positive list on a special sheet of paper that you find beautiful. Again, use your own handwriting or printing. You might embellish it with stickers or collage images. Set both lists aside for now. Now choose two stones, both about the same size. They must be small enough to feel comfortable moving together in your hand, yet not so small that they could slip between your fingers. You’ll be carrying them in a small silk bag in your pocket or purse. These stones are called ‘chi stones’. They’ll be helping you to build new chi energetic pathways and release old destructive chi pathways. The stone for the old habitual patterns should be a stone that looks familiar and somewhat boring to you (one you already have or a new one). The stone for the new way of being should be very attractive to you, a stone that you love to look at and touch. Wash both stones with cool tap water in your kitchen sink or rinse with bottled spring water to clear their energy. Never rinse them in the bathroom. Then set the ‘new patterns’ stone in the sun for ten minutes to energize it. Don’t energize the old habitual patterns stone.
you’re struggling, reread the two lists that you’ve written. While touching the stones, stop and reflect about this issue of eating the chocolate bar. Take a breath and notice how the old habitual pattern feels in your body. Now look at your attractive chi stone and feel the magnetic pull of the new, healthy pathways that this chi stone is building. Notice how this new place feels in your body. Hold the attractive chi stone to your heart or another area of your body that intuitively calls. Now consider what you want to do. If you want to eat the chocolate bar, take the old habitual patterns chi stone and hold it. Eat the chocolate bar without judgment. Now cleanse the stone with cool water and bring both stones back together in your hands. Spend a few minutes handling both of them to restore the equilibrium. Then place them in your silk bag together until you are challenged by your destructive habit again. If you choose to walk away from the chocolate bar then take the ‘new pathways’ chi stone and hold it, continuing to hold it until the desire to eat the chocolate bar has dissipated. While holding the stone affirm your decision and feel the new chi pathways building in your body and energy field. Do not wash the stones. Return the stones together in the silk bag and feel the energy of a new you building and growing. It’s extremely important that you approach the chi stones and yourself with tenderness and respect as you do this cure. This cure isn’t about making the ‘perfect’ choice each time; it’s about allowing the energy of the new chi pathways to build within you. As the new chi pathways become clearer and stronger, you will quite naturally move in the direction of wholeness and greater aliveness. Skye has specialized in Feng Shui for the home and business for over 30 years. She teaches Feng Shui, Tarot and Dreamwork at the Northern Star College of Mystical Studies in Edmonton. Contact her at skyedreamhorse@shaw.ca
You can now use your chi stones to help you release the old habit. For example, let’s say that the old habit you want to release is unhealthy eating and eating when you’re not hungry. Using that example, the next time you reach for a chocolate bar, stop and hold both chi stones in your hand, moving them around and looking at them. If

The 3 Principles can simplify your life I had just returned to Canada after five years in Peru, where I had been on an extended spiritual quest as well as leading spiritual tours. In my thinking, I was an advance spiritual being. But then came my family! There is nothing like family to rattle the spiritual cage and let the lion out. I thought I had dealt with all these issues so why were my buttons getting pushed so regularly? Who were these people whom I love so dearly, but who could generate such anger and tears in me? Why was I cowering once again like the little sister surrounded by the wicked sisters? I knew enough from previous work that this was a reflection of my inner-self, but what and more importantly, how do I fix it? For once I didn’t pack my bags and leave; this time there were reasons to stay. I wanted to stay. I’ve got to admit that it was a struggle because my old-self kept telling me “to hit the road.” Then I can across a fundamental understanding that turned my life around. I discovered the ‘3 Principles’, which I realized that I knew all along but just hadn’t put them together. Once I began to apply the understanding of these 3 Principles my relationships changed significantly. Less buttons were being pushed and I was no longer at war with my family. How did I achieve this? I did little more than become aware that my thoughts were the result of my feelings, they were not due to anything my family was doing. NO one could push my buttons except myself. How I viewed a particular situation, and what I thought about it, colored my experience of it. Once I understood this, everything changed.
There are times when I recall the stress-filled life I used to live and wonder: “Why didn’t someone tell me a long time ago that there was a better, easier way to live?” I know that everyone can have this kind of life and it’s my mission to spread this understanding. The 3 Principles are the foundation of life and are inseparable. They are made up of: 1. THOUGHT - The creative agent we use to direct us through life. Thought is not reality; yet it is through thought that our realities are created. 2. CONSCIOUSNESS - The capacity to be aware of and experience life. As Sydney Banks said: “Consciousness gives us the ability to realize the existence of life.” 3. MIND - It’s the sense that there is something greater than our tiny selves. The 3 Principles are an understanding, or description, of our natural state of being. They can be applied to any situation and they do not change. Unlike other methods there is nothing to practice nor techniques to learn. Your life is all you need. Through conversation using an insight-based exploration your inner wisdom is revealed. As my understanding of the 3 Principles deepened, I began to notice there was a ripple effect that touched all areas of my life. The result of understanding the 3 Principles is a new life where I’m rarely stressed, rarely tired, don’t feel pulled apart or irritated. My days flow with ease, clarity, a sense of wonderment and contentment. I accomplish tasks more efficiently than in the past. My relationships have gotten better and opportunities keep showing up.

Shining a light on mal-illumination by Summer Bozohora Natural Vision Specialist Nutritionists today tell us to be aware of the color of the food we eat because it reflects the nutrients contained within and to eat the full rainbow! Yet most of us aren’t aware what colors are missing from ‘incomplete spectrum lighting’ or what the spectral analysis of a light bulb or lamp is as it compares to the sun… and why should it matter? It matters because all energy we take into our bodies is derived from the sun. All our food sources come from the sun, yet light is one of the most underappreciated lifenutrients I know of. There is a lack of education about the relationship between light, health and consciousness. In fact, what’s been emphasized or taught in the media is to fear the sun - to wear sunglasses and sunscreen to protect ourselves from it! There is no balanced education as to its health benefits or the fact that our life on Earth depends upon it!
The lights gave me such a sense of relief and ease I was convinced my clients would benefit. In the end, I became a distributor because it was the only way I could get the lighting in Canada! It was meant to be, as it turns out that all the Natural Vision Centres in the USA carry the therapeutic lamps. Being the only Natural Vision Centre in Canada, we are one of the rare places to get them! Barry Campbell, owner of Roots on Whyte, was one of the first people to use a free trial lamp in his office (across the hall from mine). “I work in an area with limited natural light and found myself feeling sluggish, fatigued, and suffering eye strain and short attention. Within a short time of trying the new BlueMax™ Full Spectrum desk lamp from the Natural Vision Centre, I found the effect amazing. I no longer felt sluggish, fatigued or suffered eye-strain. This is an amazingly simple answer and works so well I decided to buy another lamp for home.” Much lighting sold in general stores is much like the difference between organic food and junk food. Cool
As Jacob Liberman, Optometrist and educator would say: “We have set ourselves up to experience ‘chronic malillumination’ … most fluorescent lighting, sunglasses, tanning lotions, (technology use) and general indoor lifestyles may be harming us more than helping,” (Medicine of the Future, Bear & Company, 1991).
Just Breathe © Shelby Willis — www.shelbywillis.ca/
In my experience, this is certainly the case and even most health practitioners are unaware of mal-illumination. I was ‘forced’ into an education when my office did not contain a window for natural light (which is essential for Natural Vision work) and was fitted with hot, glaring halogens. By the second week, I couldn’t bear to stay in my office for more than two hours without headaches and eye-fatigue. I knew it was the lighting. Although I was aware of my discomfort under fluorescents all my life, I didn’t know much about indoor lighting or the qualities of light that made them different, but I was motivated to find out! I began researching. Despite some difficulty and border restrictions, I acquired a therapeutic desk lamp and ceiling tubes from Full Spectrum Solutions.

white fluorescents are a particular type of lighting to avoid. It is ‘junk’ lighting. Based on research of Dr. Fritz Hollwich, cool-white fluorescent bulbs have been legally banned in German hospitals and medical facilities yet we are still using these bulbs in work places, hospitals and schools in Canada! Just as a point of reference, J.N. Ott, (Color and Light; Their Effects on Plants, Animals and People, Journal of Biosocial Research, 1985) states: “Chickens raised under full-spectrum lighting live twice as long, lay more eggs, are calmer and less aggressive, and produce eggs that are approximately 25% lower in cholesterol!” Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is one way that psychologists and the media acknowledge ‘malillumination’ but it barely touches the tip of the iceberg in terms of the effects of light on health. The term ‘Seasonal Affective Disorder’ is a pathological term that distorts our healthy need for light. In North America, we are all light deficient - there is nothing pathological about it. We need light. It is the most important aspect of well-being and health I know of, it is definitely NOT a disorder. Another well-known aspect of the nutrients we derive from sunlight is vitamin D which is produced through sun exposure on the skin, but did you know that only the 2% of nutrition derived from the sun, comes through our skin? According to Jacob Liberman: “98% of the sun’s light enters the body via the eyes, the other 2% via the skin,” (http://www.jacobliberman.org). Light is an energetic food that is taken in via the eyes to our ‘master gland’ - the pineal gland. The pineal gland is a cone shaped endocrine gland located in the middle of our brain, centered between the eyes. It is often referred to as our ‘third eye’ - because it quite literally is the third eye. It has light receptive cells, cones and rods just like the light receptive cells on the retina of our two frontal, exposed eyes. The pineal gland is the body’s ‘light meter’ and it assists us in being synchronized with nature.
Improvement this is called ‘sunning’ and is a core aspect of vision improvement. One of the most common questions I’m asked is: “If light regulates our bodies systems, how does the use of prescription lenses and sunglasses, which alter lights pathway, affect our way of functioning and evolving?” When we are mal-illumined, changing our ‘light’ diet, like our food diet, can produce its own type of ‘cleanse’. As colors of the spectrum are received through the eyes, “specifically those with which we are most uncomfortable, they can become powerful allies and can be used to access old unresolved traumas, which, when brought to the conscious level, act as ‘springboards’ from which we can pull out, by the roots, the weeds we call ‘disease’,” says Jacob Liberman, O.D. PhD, (Light, Medicine of the Future, Bear & Company, 1991). From this perspective, Dr. Liberman developed the Spectral Light Receptivity System and a three part program for improved illumination which we are excited to debut at the centre this fall. To learn more about the effects of light, health, sleep and vision, join us for an Intro-Orientation and/or register for our Spectral Light Receptivity Program. Summer is the owner of the Natural Vision Improvement Centre which treats various eye conditions, carries full-spectrum lighting and is the sole distributor of the Varilum Colour Dynamic Therapeutic Lamp in Canada. The centre has Dr Liberman’s Spectral Light Receptivity System. Note: this information is for educational purposes only. It's intended to supplement your current health program, not to replace the care of a licensed medical doctor. Thoroughly research all topics for yourself.
The ‘third eye’ or pineal gland is also known as the ‘seat of the soul’ and our two frontal, external eyes are the windows to it. The spiritual and intuitive knowledge known to illuminate the mind through the natural production of DMT or ‘Spirit Molecule’ is one of the most controversial aspects being studied about the pineal gland today. And when DMT is said to be present in elevated levels, human beings are said to have ‘enlightened’ experiences. My main point is that our diet of light affects our emotional, physical and spiritual well-being. According to Dr. Simon Atkins, it also informs our evolutionary development, but very few of us know much about our light diet. As a meteorologist, and doctor of bioelectromagnetics and natural health, Dr. Atkins studies the sun’s effects in relationship to world events and human evolution. He can predict major events based on the sun’s solar activity with remarkable accuracy. He advises we spend time in the sun each day without sunglasses, glasses or suntan lotions. He feels it is the best way to maintain our emotional, physical and spiritual health and does it as a daily practice. In Natural Vision www.MosaicMagazine.ca

Natural Healing “Often when something stressful happens in my life or when someone/ something shocks me, it’s like it actually turns into a hard ball of energy in my stomach that feels like I ate a large rock. Sometimes I even gain weight because I don’t know how to let that heavy energy out of me. Can you offer me some ways to let go of it naturally and easily?” SS, Edmonton by Jackie Pearce Wholistic Practitioner - Facilitator of Awareness Get yourself nice and comfy in a chair/bed, close your eyes and breathe deeply. Connect to a recent situation where you felt this occur. Now see if this feeling originated in your stomach or did it come from somewhere else? Once you know where this manifested for you, breathe into this area. See if that stone has a colour, a texture or if there is a feeling presiding here. Just observe this hard ball and learn about it. You can ask it questions to learn more. Some ideas for questions are: What do you have to share with me? What is the lesson you have to offer? What is the true emotion underneath (and when was the first time you experienced this emotion)? by Melissa Robak Crystal & Gem Store Owner Depending on the underlying reasons for the trigger, the stones I would recommend will change. If the initial shock of the trigger is difficult for you to handle, I would recommend wearing a strand of freshwater pearls during stressful times. This gentle, organic stone will help keep you calm. Surround yourself with mother of pearl, blue lace agate and amber to help you with the ups and downs that come with uncertainty. If continued support during the stress itself is desired, use amethyst to help with decision making and putting your decisions into action. Embrace garnet as an amazing stone to give you the strength and courage to see things through. by Jane Thomas Registered Massage Therapist Yes, we often internalize our stress and we are all being challenged to learn ways of destressing naturally. First, I would suggest you stay with your feelings and your sense of the large rock in your gut. Being present to the sensation and not attached to an outcome of ‘willing it away’ is often times what gives it space to unwind. Stay curious to the sensation. Stay present to the feelings and the emotions that arise. Try not to be attached to the outcome, by cultivating your curious mind versus your attached mind. I would use fennel or peppermint mixed with a carrier oil as a tummy rub to soothe and to engage the energy of the large rock sensation.
Once you have this information it’s time for more questions. For example: Is there something I can offer to the place this originated from to comfort and nurture this area of my body? Knowing the lesson, is there an action step I can take to overcome this reaction? If there was a colour or a texture along with the feeling of the hard ball of energy, you can also think of what would help it feel better. Perhaps you melt the stone with your unconditional self-love through a visualization or maybe bringing in a new colour, shape or texture will help release this sensation for you. Jackie specializes in Chakra Balancing, is a Certified Colour Sound Therapist and a Komyo Reiki Master/Teacher at Golden Lady Wholistics. She also offers courses and workshops. If your difficultly surrounds reacting from the experience after the fact, shift towards stones designed to help you let go of things that are no longer serving you. Use an Apache tear to help you let go of the things you could not change. Use rose quartz to focus on forgiveness and loving energy. Pink opal will help you to focus your intent towards self-love. A quartz cluster will give you a conduit to filter the negative energy away, clearing and cleansing so you can move on in a healthy state. It is possible that more than one of these approaches could be required. Melissa Robak is co-owner of two amazing gem and mineral stores in Lacombe and Red Deer. Chris and Melissa’s ability to intertwine the metaphysical with the ‘rock-hound’ draws gem lovers from everywhere to their unique stores. Visit www.SilverCove.biz
I would also incorporate a light stimulating essential oil such as eucalyptus or lemon to help me breathe and stay present to my breath. Use your breath and the inhalation of the oil (via an infuser or simply inhaling from the bottle) and allow your awareness to stay present to what you are sensing and experiencing in your body. Take your breath deep into your abdomen and allow the oils to support the release of the stress, with the intention of creating a new pattern which does not involve creating the rock symptoms. Successful life tips from Sadhguru
Temple of Tara © Jayna Simpson — www.paintedplanet.org/
Is there a better way to live your life? Are you searching for a way to reduce stress, improve relationships and increase your mental clarity? Are you ready to empower yourself to create your life, your way? Do you wish there was a guru to help you do it? Sadhguru is a realized yogi, mystic and visionary who has dedicated himself to the elevation of the physical, mental, and spiritual well-being of all people. With a keen mind, balanced by a heart that knows no boundary, his presence creates an extraordinary opportunity to break through limitations into one’s natural state of freedom, love and joy. Named one of India’s 50 most influential people, Sadhguru’s work has deeply touched the lives of millions worldwide through his transformational programs. An author, poet, visionary and internationally renowned thought leader, Sadhguru’s wit and piercing logic provoke and broaden our thoughts and perception of life. Sadhguru has been an influential voice at major global forums including the UN, MIT and the World Economic Forum, addressing issues as diverse as socioeconomic development, leadership and spirituality. Sadhguru has a unique ability to make the ancient yogic sciences relevant to contemporary minds, acting as a bridge to the deeper dimensions of life. His life and work are constant reminders that the inner sciences are not outdated philosophies, but rather, vitally relevant to our times. His approach does not ascribe to any belief system, but offers methods for self-transformation that are both proven and powerful.

Mosaic Magazine — Winter 2015
Sadhguru established the Isha Foundation, a volunteerrun international nonprofit organization dedicated to cultivating human potential. The Foundation is headquartered at Isha Yoga Center in southern India and at Isha Institute of Inner-sciences in the United States. The course that he designed for self-transformation is called Inner Engineering. Inner Engineering is a seven-session online course that provides tools and solutions to empower yourself to create your life the way you want it. The course gives you the opportunity to intellectually explore the ABC’s of life using methods that are the distilled essence of yogic sciences. The course imparts practical wisdom to manage your body, mind, emotions and the fundamental life energy within. The course and its environment establish the possibility to explore the higher dimensions of life and offers tools to engineer one’s self through the inner science of yoga. Once given the tools to rejuvenate, people can optimize all aspects of health, inner growth and success. relationships at work, home, community and most importantly, within one’s self. The approach is a modern antidote to stress, and presents simple but powerful processes from yogic science to purify the system and increase health and inner well-being. The following information is an example of the kind of teachings that are contained in the Inner Engineering course, by Sadhguru himself, on how to live a successful life. “For one who is looking at the simple events of this life itself as the goal of life, for him there is failure and success. For one who is seeing this life as a stepping stone for a larger possibility, there is no failure. Whether you have a good deal or a bad deal, whatever the situation is, it’s very useful - you use that for your well-being. 1. Forget Luck, Live by Intent A few things may happen by chance. But if you wait for chance, good things will happen to you only when you are in your grave because things may take their time. Even quantum theory says that if you try, you can actually walk through a wall once in a ‘zillion’ times because there is a pulsation of particles happening and you may walk through. It is just that before you reach that one zillionth time, you’ll have a cracked skull. When you live by chance, you also live in fear and anxiety. When you live by intent and capability, it does not matter what is happening or not happening; at least you are in control of what is happening to you. It is a more stable life.
you can play your role to the hilt and still have no problem with it. But for most people, their personality is like a rock. It sits on them all the time and makes them suffer anything that does not fit into its ambit. If you have to break that, you have to do something in reverse. This is a simple thing you can do - team up with someone that you do not like. Spend time with that person, very lovingly, joyfully. Learn to do things that you do not like, be with people that you do not like and still live your life sensibly, lovingly and joyfully. 5. Drop Your Calculations There is no need to aspire to greatness. If you make the focus and ambit of your life well beyond the concerns of who you are, you will anyway be a great human being. If you look at certain people, greatness happened to them not because they were seeking to be great, but because their way of looking at life was way beyond “What about me?” If you just drop this one calculation, “What about me?” from your head, and function to the best of your ability, in some way you will be great because you will naturally be looking at: “What can I do about all the life around me?” So, you will naturally enhance your capabilities because there is so much to do! 2. Stop Fixating on Failure For a committed person, there is no such thing as failure. If you fall down 100 times a day, it is 100 lessons learned. If you commit yourself like this to creating what you really care for, your mind gets organized. Once your mind gets organized, your emotions will get organized because the way you think is the way you feel. Once your thought and emotion are organized, your energies and your very body will get organized. Once all these four are organized in one direction, your ability to create and manifest what you want is phenomenal. You are the creator in many ways. 3. Work With Clarity What a human being needs is clarity, not confidence. If you want to walk through a crowd of people, if your vision is clear and you can see where everybody is, you can just walk through the whole crowd without touching anyone. If your vision is not clear but you have confidence, you will walk over everybody. Because there is no clarity, people think that confidence is a good substitute. It just cannot be. 4. Embrace the People and Things You Dislike To handle different kinds of situations in our lives, we need different kinds of identities. If you are fluid about it, if you can change from one to another gracefully, then www.MosaicMagazine.ca

Shaman’s Path fire walk There are 12 of us lined up before a bed of red-hot coals. It’s 4 feet wide and 20 feet long, with a circle at the far end to represent our hearts. At the centre of the heart is a small bed of coals; it is there that each participant will symbolically place aspects of their life’s disappointment, failure and fear. Each person has been exploring all three this weekend in a quest to ‘be with’ what has brought them to this moment in time, focusing on the precipice that who we are is not broken and our suffering is simply seeking attention, love and compassion. It is fall, the time of the equinox, and so it is that we are facing the west direction, literally for the fire walk we are about to embark on, and figuratively within the teachings of the Shaman’s Path program. The setting of the sun and the shift in the season is calling us to surrender to the dark. In shamanism we engage symbolism as a means to gain a greater depth of understanding of our souls. The ‘dark’ is metaphoric for our subconscious selves and it is here that unresolved emotional issues are held. The fire walk is integrated into this program as an opportunity for each individual to tap into their own inner strength, finding the inspiration needed to walk with balance in their lives. Facing the dark also means surrender. To walk on fire we must pass through the parameters of our rational brains, (which may be screaming out: “What the heck are you doing?”) and surrender to trusting we will be safe. The coals are symbolic of the pain we carry, and fear will take us down. It is essential to trust in the act of surrender.
It is one hour past sunset when the fire walk begins. There is some nervousness showing up in the shifting of bodies, movement of breath and the odd giggle. However this is the third weekend this group has been together and each has witnessed and experienced their own ability to delve deeply into their hearts and safely return; they are ready for this. Each participant is holding their fire stone - a healing stone symbolic of being a medicine person, which they activated and created three months prior during our summer solstice program. I go first, noticing the heat of the coals, the feeling of my breath and the pull of the west. I consciously choose to move my feet, one after the other, over the complete stretch of coals. (If you run, you get burned!) I walk to the centre fire, smudging myself after I lay down the energetic bundle of failure. What I feel is raw and profound... primal. I then witness each of my participants in the ceremony face their fear on the coals and lay their bundle on the fire before they sit in the central heart beside me. There are tears of release amidst the silent revere; words are not needed here. Watchers of Innocents © Karen Goodfellow
by Sarah Salter-Kelly Spiritual Healer
We are invited to walk on fresh coals (by our fire walk facilitator) once each has completed the initial journey. I think some of us walked more than eight times, walking for those who could not as an act of prayer; walking to remind us to move through the notion of fear and to change the circumstances within our lives that feed it; walking to reclaim our power in a loving and gentle way, inclusive of each step of our journey. In the west we face death, which is easy to understand as we take in the environment around us. It is the time of the year to release the aspects of our being which no longer serve us as we are growing and changing... Change often ignites fear. And so it is that the west direction holds the medicine of the mountain lion, a creature that easily activates the fear of our own mortality. Accessing the wisdom of the mountain lion, rather than running from it, teaches us to walk with integrity and impeccability within our lives. www.MosaicMagazine.ca

Cleansing toxins helps us shine our light by Norma J. Hope Certified Lymph Therapist I have always loved this poem. Learning how to ‘shine’ in my own life, winning over fear, has been the biggest part of my incredible journey, darkness and light.
deep inside, the first true stirrings of feeling fantastic, a new cleaner connection to yourself. It changed my life completely. And those feelings of being brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous are just waiting for you on the inside. We just need to find what resonates with you for a place to start, the best way for you to tap into that power and turn your light on inside, to get you all ‘shiny’.
From My House To Yours! © Monika Dery
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn't serve the world. There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are here to make manifest the glory of the universe that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others. Marianne Williamson - Harper Collins, 1992
And how does a person go from fear or inadequacy (or even anger) running them to feeling powerful beyond measure, to shining their light? One step at a time with courage, faith and perseverance, as I did since 1997 and my clients have done since 1999. And the key is to ‘start’ somewhere or start again if you got sidetracked. Start with what you know or maybe what you don’t know. I want to know your chief concerns physically, emotionally, mentally or spiritually, as your therapist and coach. I started my journey with cleansing with Colon Hydrotherapy and Lymph Therapy because constipation/ irritable bowel syndrome, headaches and immune issues were my chief concerns at the time. I didn’t have a clue before I started that 90% of all physical symptoms were due to toxins but also underneath that are our emotional needs, keeping us in the dark or dimming our light.
Clearing away old programmed stresses that trigger us, (blowing out our light sometimes), is why Biofeedback Therapy is another great place to start or jump into anytime. It identifies your particular holding patterns, where the stresses are being held. It uses homeopathic frequencies to reduce your stresses of everyday living and even childhood trauma (being held and felt in your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual body on the inside). It moves you to a place of peace, a new calmness deep inside. You don’t know how stressed you are, until you’re not! Norma Hope is a Certified Biofeedback Specialist, Colon Hydrotherapist, Lymph Therapist, Microcurrent Therapist, Life Coach, NeuroAcoustic Sound Therapist, and more… Call 780-477-1100 or go to www.lifesynergyinc.com Note: This information is for educational purposes only. Colon Hydrotherapy and Lymph Therapy cleanse toxins away, bringing a new cleanness and better function to the physical body, but the added bonus is they also start the cleansing and bringing to light of all your emotional needs or blockages that are preventing your true light to ‘shine’ - your real you. And yes, there was a bit of fear before that first colon hydrotherapy session but I found (and clients always say) that after you get that first session over with (the mystery), it’s so easy and you begin to feel that euphoria

Transform your life with the Magician The Magician is a teacher and guide, demonstrating that we carry the power to create our own lives. If we are not manifesting what we want in our lives, we need to dig deeper to understand the unconscious beliefs which we hold that are creating these unfulfilling results. Once we understand these beliefs, we can change them. Until then, we will experience ourselves as victims of our circumstances. There is no judgement from Spirit about whatever it is that we want to create. If we experience any judgment, it is actually coming from within ourselves. So if you can’t manifest something you want, it isn’t that Spirit doesn’t want you to have it - there is some hidden belief you have that is sabotaging you. The Magician is here to teach us that we can experiment with creating anything. The exception to this is if we consciously chose to create things that harm others. If we deliberately create in a way that hurts another, it comes back to us tenfold. So be mindful of your creations. We have been trained that we can’t have everything. It’s not true. We have limitless creative potential. The only thing that stops us is our beliefs. For example, we might have a relationship where we really love someone but they treat us poorly. If, in childhood, we didn’t get the love that we needed, we may have made a decision that we would sacrifice ourselves for any amount of love. The Magician would tell us that we need to shift this belief and see ourselves as worthy of love and that we can have relationships where we are loved in a reciprocal manner. Imagine what it would be like to be cherished and then choose people that make you feel that way.
relationship with money?” Then imagine what your life would be like if money was limitless and you could have anything. What would you do if you had a $1,000,000? Just playing with this idea will create a vibration of abundance that will start to attract greater prosperity to you. If your question is about health, the Magician would ask you to reflect upon what your role models of health were as a child. How did you receive love, physical vitality and acceptance of your body? How is this impacting your health today? For example, sometimes in a household with many children, a child receives more love and attention through being sick. Imagine how good it would feel in your body to realize that you can be loved and healthy. © Radiant Rider-Waite® Tarot by US Games Systems 2003
by Skye MacLachlan Tarot Teacher & Reader
The examples here may not have directly answered your question but it will guide you to examine what beliefs you formed in your childhood and how this has created your present reality. Some of us have experienced very difficult childhoods and it can take time to recognize the beliefs that were planted in us then, that we need to release and transform. We need to be gentle and patient with ourselves as magicians. It’s a process and change might not happen overnight. Remember to tend to your own issues and avoid pointing out other’s challenging beliefs. We all have challenges to overcome and we need to approach our transformational journey in a gentle way.
The Magician teaches us that we are always creating through our thoughts, feelings and actions. If you aren’t happy with what you’ve created, then find the root of the belief and consciously change it. Choose again. Skye has specialized in Tarot for over 30 years. From my experience, just being aware of the old belief, changes it. When we get the AHA, a new opening is created and change has already begun. Then we will be attracted to teachings that support us to step into the new way of being. If you have a question about money, the Magician would ask: “What belief do you carry around abundance and scarcity and how are these beliefs impacting your current

Contracting in order to grow by Catherine Potter Astrologer and Hypnotherapist There is a time for expansion, a time for contraction and periods where they come together. What does that look like from an astrological perspective? Now through the end of August 2016 we are in a period that I would describe as conservative growth.
Another scenario may be the case of a rapidly growing business where the expansion is faster than the current foundation can support. In the above examples there will be too much wobbling (almost falling) or too much chaos. In other words, things keep falling apart or are in a constant state of chaos. During this period of conservative expansion before growth can continue, or even be maintained, a person/group needs to re-look at their structure. The questions to ask are:
Distance in Time © Oksana Zhelisko — www.zheliskoart.com
During this period we are meant to approach any current or future idea for expansion in a step by step manner. In some cases if we are experiencing too much tension we are meant to contract by withdrawing or taking a step back in order to grow.
There are times when we jump forward in some area of our life, making a choice to expand. If the growth preceded the development of a solid foundation we have a precarious balance.

• Do I have a foundation that supports where I am? If not, what steps can I take to stabilize? • Do I have a foundation that supports where I want to go? If not, what details do I need to attend to and what structures do I need to put in place before I proceed? • Have I got resources in place that will help support my current or continued growth? Resources may be people, money, products, etc. The type of growth that pertains to structures and details is not always visible. It is slower and for some may not seem glamorous. I like to use the example of the ‘idea’ of building a house as opposed to the ‘building’ of it. An idea is born in a minute whereas the building of anything involves many large and little decisions, as well as physical effort. Planetary transits (cycles) will affect us differently. What creates tension for one person will show up as flow for someone else. The expansion versus contraction cycle we are experiencing is global and collective. It has an impact on the business of running a company, city, country. The above questions apply personally and collectively. If you are contemplating starting a business or a period of personal growth, make sure you have solid structures in place. Any type of growth requires a strong foundation to support it. If you are re-evaluating a shaky personal or business situation, first ask the above questions and then take the appropriate steps to stabilize. Patience, good planning, long term thinking, realistic goal setting and tenacity are required during conservative growth periods. This is not the time to put paint over a termite ridden house. Instead deal with the pesky little details. An Astrologer since 1986, Catherine is also a Hypnotherapist and Meditation Instructor. La dolce vita in Italy by Connie Brisson All my life I’ve wanted to travel all over Italy and experience ‘la dolce vita’ (the good life). That was the reason that I chose our cruise ship (Holland America, Zuiderdam) with its many different European ports that included the Italian ones of Florence, Sardinia, Sicily, Naples and Rome. I booked this particular cruise because it was docking in Florence on my husband’s birthday. I wanted something special for him, to thank him for how hard he works all year round for our family. And because it wasn’t just any old day, and any old place we were visiting, I googled to see what magical thing I could arrange for us in Florence to celebrate Marcel’s birthday. Of course, numerous tours are available but I ended up deciding on something extravagantly decadent.
View from Piazzale Michelangelo, Florence
I booked a ‘Private Florence and Pisa Shore Excursion’ through www.tours-italy.com with service provided by Avventure Bellissime SRL. This was a big decision because it came with a big price tag, but when I considered that no one knows what the future will bring and we may not ever be able to go back to Florence again, I wanted to make the most of this visit and this birthday. Our private tour included being picked up at our cruise ship, a Mercedes car with an English speaking driver for 10 hours, a licensed expert English speaking tour guide for a three hour walking tour of Florence, immediate entrance to the museum that holds Michelangelo’s David, a trip to the Leaning Tower of Pisa and then being dropped off at our cruise ship at the end of the day. Our ship docked in the port of Livorno on August 19 and despite some heavy rain, we found our driver (Michele) and settled into our warm car. And, regardless of how cold

Mosaic Magazine — Winter 2015
I was (from being soaking wet), I could not help but appreciate the two hour drive from Livorno to Florence, and all of the scenery along the way - the Tuscan hills, gardens of vineyards and beautiful old buildings. When we arrived in Florence, the rain was letting up and our first stop was a tourist point (high above the city) that allowed for a majestic view of Florence, Piazzale Michelangelo. It was breathtaking. Next we drove down into the heart of Florence where we met our licensed private tour Francesca Papi guide for the next three hours. Francesca Papi (Francesca@fantasticflorence.com) was wonderful and her vast knowledge of all things about Florence was impressive. There’s too much to tell you here about everything she said as we walked through the streets and breathed in the wonder of Florence, but there is something that stood out for me to share with you. Florence is most famous for the Medicis, an Italian banking family, that later became a political dynasty, marrying into royalty and eventually produced a few Popes. They began by funding the largest bank during the 15th century and Francesca described them as merchants. Their wealth and influence, initially derived from the textile trade, led them to dominate their city’s government, where they were able to create an environment where art and humanism could flourish. They, among other families of Italy, fostered and inspired the birth of the Italian Renaissance - a time in history that honored the importance of art and culture. The part I found interesting was when Francesca said that many wealthy families, like the Medicis, would commission the building of great churches in Florence (which are so impressive) because they had the money to do so, but in return they wanted to be buried in those churches, on sacred ground, so their souls would be closer to God (and therefore easily accepted into heaven). It was their way of buying a way into heaven because of the A church in Florence www.MosaicMagazine.ca

‘ways’ they made their money. Obviously there was a little guilt involved but Italy (and all of us) benefited from a number of amazing churches as a result.
David
At the end of our private walking tour, we immediately got into the Galleria dell’Accademia Museum (where other people were lined up for hours) and had a chance to appreciate Michelangelo’s famous sculpture of David, as well as other art in the museum. David, a marble statue of a standing male nude that represents the Biblical hero of David, was created between 1501 and 1504 by Michelangelo. The museum had other unfinished marble statues by Michelangelo and when we compared the differences between those, the detail in David was even more remarkable.
Our next port was Palermo, Sicily where I instantly fell in love with the interesting, windy streets and old world architecture. It felt like we were in an old Italian movie. So, of course, I couldn’t help but buy Marcel a Godfather t-shirt with Marlon Brando on it! We even got to see a movie (gangster type) being filmed there that day. I didn’t recognize any of the actors but the restaurant, fashions and the cars in it were all vintage.
After a lunch at a wonderful Tuscan cuisine restaurant, La Grotta Guelfa (www.grottaguelfa.it) that our driver suggested, we wandered through Florence’s famous San Lorenzo Market that had everything, especially leather goods. Then it was an hour’s drive to the city of Pisa. We saw, with our own eyes, that the Leaning Tower of Pisa is indeed leaning. It was one of those famous places that you can’t actually believe that you’re seeing for yourself (and not in a postcard or movie). Then we had to rush back to the cruise ship in time for us to leave port. All in all, it was an incredible day that we will never forget.
Amalfi Coast
We then spent a day in Naples, some of it at a large outlet mall (La Reggia Designer Outlet), about an hour away. They promised great deals on Gucci and Prada which was majorly attractive to a purse person like me (but alas, I didn’t get anything). The last time we were in Naples we went to the Amalfi Coast and on a guided tour of Pompeii. That was amazing too and shows the diversity of that small area of Italy. If you want history/culture there is Pompeii, if you want scenery there is the extraordinary Amalfi Coast (one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been to in my life) and if you want designer shopping, there is that too!
Leaning Tower of Pisa
The island of Sardinia was next, where we took a bus tour to Porto Cervo, a small but wealthy shopping resort/village that apparently has the highest real estate prices in all of Europe (house prices reach up to €300,000 per square meter). This is where the rich and famous Europeans go to holiday. I’ve never seen so many expensive boats/yachts in my life as those in the crystal blue waters outside this island.
Our last stop was Rome. We had been to Rome before so I didn’t know if I would love it as much the second time around but YES, I did. I love, love, love Rome. We stayed once again at the Infinity Hotel Roma (www.infinityhotel.it), a modern 3-star hotel in the heart of Rome near the Spanish Steps and I would highly recommend it. The only downside (for some) is that they have a very small elevator. On our second day there, I booked a cooking class for us in the village of Mazzano, Romano. Less than 30-40 minutes from the city center of Rome, this charming 16th century medieval town is located in the heart of the Valley of Treja and we had our cooking class in a historical condo/vacation home owned by Chef Fabio, who is also the owner of That’s Amore restaurant in Rome. Art that resonates with my soul by Shelby Willis I have an internal drive to do meaningful and creative work with my life that flourishes when I’m painting. I am amazed at the opportunities and positive feedback I have received since following my heart and pursing my passion for painting. My journey as an artist started out very early and has always been influenced by my love for nature. I am a self-taught artist, thankful for growing up surrounded by a creative family. After exploring my passion for the environment, by obtaining a degree in Ecology, I wanted to use art as a tool to inspire both environmental awareness and an appreciation for nature.
Thinking of You © Shelby Willis
Each painting is led by layers of color and patterns and then, on top of these layers, I begin to gesture in the outline of my subject matter allowing themes and shapes to arise through color interaction. I move forward with confidence, taking risks, knowing that the whole painting is completely malleable. This freedom allows my painting style to be in the moment, energetic and positive. I am elated to hear from others that the enjoyment I get from making each piece shines through. For more on Shelby’s art go to her website: www.shelbywillis.ca
Hitched to the Universe © Shelby Willis
The majority of my paintings are animals, along with a few soulful and spiritual pieces. I love to indulge in the idea of spirit animals. I believe that each animal has a different lesson to teach us and that we may feel a connection to several spirit animals throughout our lives. It excites me to paint each animal with so much color and vibrancy that they can’t help but resonate with the soul. The process of painting each piece holds a meditative component for me. Each painting is a chance to grow and learn to appreciate the present moment. I have learned to let go of expectations for how it will evolve and just enjoy the process. La dolce vita in Italy continued from page 21 so quiet that it was almost like we were the only ones in the city. We ended up at a café outside of the Pantheon, a Roman temple built between 27 BC - 14 AD. I had not been in it before and I gasped when I entered. It took my breath away (as all things in Rome seem to do for me). Then we came upon The Basilica of Santa Maria in Trastevere, one of the oldest churches in Rome. When we entered, I was surprised (and then so delighted) to discover that we were the only people in it, other than a man who was acting like a guardian/custodian at the door.
Gabbey helping Chef Monica to make the ravioli filling.
You can also take a cooking class in Rome, but I thought this would be more fun to travel to a small village, (http://www.fabiolouscookingday.com). We met Chef Monica (one of Chef Fabio’s staff) in Rome and then, with six other tourists (all from Australia), we were driven to Mazzano. We spent the day participating in hands-on cooking lessons that were full of forbidden gluten (but were so amazingly delicious).
There are very few times in my life that I’ve been able to be in a church alone, and to find a huge and historic one like this, where we were the only ones, was such a sacred gift/moment for me. It was honestly one of the highlights of that whole trip and it didn’t cost a penny. Of course, it didn’t take long for Marcel to become friends with the custodian at the door and that warmed my heart too. In that moment, I was so sincerely thankful for him and for all the good in my life. I love when serendipitous things happen to me, wherever I am, but when it happens on a trip (especially in a place that I’ve never been before), it fills me with awe and wonder, and instills within me the desire to see every part of the world that I can. Each place has magic and I want to experience it all. “Yes, that’s for me.”
We learned to make four kinds of bruschetta (traditional tomato with garlic, baked yellow peppers with garlic, baked sausage and minced mushrooms), two kinds of yeast free pizza (potato/rosemary and onion), three kinds of homemade pasta (zucchini ravioli, mushroom/sausage lasagna and tomato fettuccine), marinated chicken, oven roasted potatoes and then a nectarine dessert. We literally cooked and ate the whole day long! It was a day that we’ll always remember. On our last day in Rome, I wanted to get up early and enjoy a coffee somewhere outside. In the morning the streets are Proud chefs of homemade Italian pasta!

(Italian) With heart and soul
What is tribal shaming? When I read Elizabeth Gilbert’s Facebook message on ‘Tribal Shaming’ it was like discovering a lost, ancient treasure. There isn’t enough room here to reprint it, but PLEASE go to Facebook and search “Elizabeth Gilbert, Tribal Shaming.” Every family is a tribe and is governed by its own rules. These rules are sacred to the tribe’s existence and form a code of honor that the tribe’s survival depends on. It doesn’t matter whether the rules are honorable or not, or even make any sense at all. IF you want to be in that tribe, you follow those rules. The shaming comes to anyone in that tribe who dares to do things differently, breaking the tribal rules by choosing another path, thereby leaving the tribe behind in one way or another. Because of this, many of us will often sacrifice ourselves if we feel the people we love in our tribe are threatened by us (by our ‘light’ or gifts or our success… I call it SHINE). We would rather opt to be less, than be shamed, or not be loved, by our tribe for choosing to be different, or more, than them. These are my words to describe Tribal Shaming, but please read the article yourself because there is so much more to it than this small part that I’m writing about. When I first read it, what I thought about was my family of origin. That family was my first tribe - a tribe I never actually felt a part of, even from the time I was small. It was like we were all separate planets in the same small universe, with everyone only concerned about their own survival/needs. Yet, I longed to belong, to be genuinely loved by them and I would often sacrifice who I was to get that love. But this wasn’t just something I experienced with my family of origin because they aren’t/weren’t my only tribe. I’ve experienced similar things with both old and newer friends, co-workers in previous jobs, both mine and my husband’s extended families and even with some in the spiritual/metaphysical community. Within each tribe, one of the things that reoccurred was how I felt I had to hide, minimize or change parts of myself in order to be accepted or loved. I learned not to

share good/happy things with certain people because I knew they would NOT be happy for me. I discovered that some people found it much easier to love and support me when my life was difficult or hard, BUT when my life was good, it triggered their jealousy, (“Why is she doing better than me?”) and then they (likely unconsciously) would do something to hurt or shame me. No matter what the reason though, conscious or unconscious, any kind of shaming dims our light. And this is why I thought about each of you who read this magazine… Because the people who read this magazine (and learn from all the articles and guides/mentors/ practitioners in it) are people who are growing and progressing in life. And therefore, you might also have families, friends or colleagues that are jealous or envious of any improvements you make, who don’t like to hear when good things happen to you and because of that, you may also experience Tribal Shaming. We are ALL meant to excel - we are all meant to SHINE in our own way. Some people don’t know that (if they grew up with an ‘each man for himself’ mentality) and therefore they naturally think by taking away another’s ‘shine’ that they will shine brighter. But the truth is that when anyone tries to take away our shine, they kill even more of their own inherent light too.
Although I had already noticed that I often consciously would hide things or become less, so that some people in my life wouldn’t be triggered, it wasn’t until reading Elizabeth’s article that I could put a ‘name’ to it, see it for what it really was and just that (halleluiah!) changed how I now react to it. The world would not evolve (and neither would we) if we all stayed fixed within our tribes forever. Our tribes were meant to provide us with safety/security, but what’s safe isn’t always concerned about what’s good for our souls, or our truth, or integrity. Lastly, remember this… Whenever you see something you want, instead of being jealous or shaming another for already being able to have it before you, remember Norman Vincent Peale’s words of wisdom. He said to look at the thing(s) you want and simply say: “That’s for me.” Consciously put it ‘out there’ for the Universe to work on for you and then, wait to receive it.
