MOViE MOViE Life Is Art Festival is back! This year, MOViE MOViE is proud to present 20 films about influential, legendary, contemporary artists and their passion for their arts. The films celebrate the best in music, fashion, photography, art, dance, architecture, cuisine, theatre and more! Besides theatrical screenings, MOViE MOViE channel (NowTV ch. 116) will also be simultaneously playing a series of arthouse movies. Passionate art & culture lovers are welcome to join us at cultural events at MOViE MOViE Cityplaza and various venues across the city. This summer, may we live out the colours of life and revel in our passion for the arts.

來電影院冒險吧 ! 戲海無涯，非荷里活沒大明星的好電影往 往不易排期上映；即或上畫了，影迷亦可能一 個不為意就失諸交臂。
Life is Art 盛 夏 藝 術 祭 來 到 第 三 年， 由 《Amy》走到《海報師：阮大勇的插畫藝術》，
MOViE MOViE 為觀眾搜羅眾多容易走漏眼的 藝術紀錄片，配合不同活動，成為一股新戲流。 這一年，我們繼續很榮幸的邀請了不同界別的 翹楚參與盛夏藝術祭，分享他們對電影主人翁 或主題的真知灼見。是次活動更獲甘國亮先生 Life is Art 盛夏藝術祭 節目總監 蔡靄兒

出任榮譽導賞大師，定能為大家帶來更多意外 驚喜。 套用湯顯祖《牡丹亭》中的名句：「不入園 林，怎知春色如許」。每次進入電影院都是一 場冒險——不入戲院，又怎知夏色如許？ 片中 一班各領風騷的大人物對一己之長既有無限熱 情，同時亦展現人生高低起伏的精彩歷程。 今 夏，讓我們痛快地看電影、痛快地被感動、痛 快地去追夢，不許在秋天滿地落葉時才感嘆生 活沒溫度 ...
十九世紀有電影發明以來 , 不同國家各自修行 , 彼此樂於納入近傍的創作或營運體制 , 有幸躋 身其中的工作者 , 橫跨兩世祀的觀賞者 , 都不 能否定其為擴濶思維的精神食糧。 踏入廿一世紀 , 生態驅使人類應接不暇 , 變作依賴任何達者為先的商業行為 , 不斷受四 方八面密襲的唆擺 , 同步將過往細水長流 , 所學 所識的沈澱抽離。電影工業首當其衝 , 生存之 道每每與高科官感掛鈎結拜。形成學術上導演 分流極端 , 受眾亦有回歸各種歷久常青的藝術。 我腦葉中 , 不一定是導演的作品 , 而是他 們樂於把魔術過繼給我們 , 此刻我就想起這兩 位高人富啟發性的真理。 李安 :「每個人心裏頭都有叛道離經的東 西 , 唯有靠藝術的手法 , 才能讓它們自然找到 合適的出口 , 不要想觀眾愛看甚麼 , 要想他們 沒看過甚麽。」

Film was invented in the 19th century from then on, it has been molded into all shapes and forms, to fit into different countries and cultures. Around the globe, filmmakers are pilgrims in their pursuit of filmic techniques and unique styles; both the audience and filmmakers alike cannot deny that the pilgrimage fuels a broadened point of view. Stepping into the 21st century, an unsettling aura lingers in the air - the world is running on jet engines, everyone is overwhelmed by the speed at which things are moving. People’s increasing credulity is most evident in the film industry’s tendency to turn to hi-tech for survival, diverging from traditions, letting the past and its practices slip away. A word of advice - no matter how the times evolve, leave a small corner of your mind for reminiscence: some memories are best left untouched, free from the stain of modernity. (Translated by EC)
Let's embark on a cinematic adventure! 3 years ago, we decided to host screenings of a series of art-related films to start a new trend in local cinema; this, and a multitude of events have eventually prompted the birth of Life Is Art. In the past, we have collaborated with various partners to hold a series of talks, performances and workshops, in the hope that they will enhance viewers’ moviewatching experience. This year, we offer an exciting line-up of acclaimed films, all featuring individuals of legendary status in their respective fields. Moreover, we have invited a number of leading figures in different sectors to share with us their insights. Finally, we are honoured to announce that Mr. Kam Kwok-leung will be the honourable screening master of this year’s Life is Art. This summer, let us immerse ourselves into the passion and dreams of cinema, in celebration of the arts in film. (Translated by BM)

On any given day on the vast Tibetan Plateau, you will find nomads herding their yaks and sheep, and monks reciting their mantras. You will also find them playing one of their favorite sports — basketball. Makeshift courts are found in nearly every village. Next to traditional horseback riding, basketball has become a way for young men to work off their aggression and channel their energy. With the introduction of televised NBA games, the nomads of Ritoma have a new strategy for their court game. And when a proper coach arrives from the United States, slamdunk becomes their new mantra. A new tournament has been announced, the first in their region. Can they put together a team that’s good enough to take part? Might they even be able to win?

Bjarke Ingels is one of the leading visionaries of modern architecture, whose magnificent works have become staples, not only in his home country of Denmark, but also the lofty Manhattan skyline. Kaspar Astrup Schröder’s documentary chronicles Ingels’ life, from his childhood passion for comics, through to his formative years as a professional architect. Ingels has led his firm, the Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG), through multiple landmark construction projects, including the Lego House, Danish Maritime Museum and a new skyscraper for the World Trade Center. Yet, Ingels’ professional life was put on hold when an MRI scan revealed a cyst on his brain. Though crippled by anxiety, Ingels nevertheless strived to reach further heights in his career.

On the small isle of Tap Mun, the ocean breeze gently lifts up strands of grey hair on Lai Lin-shau’s head. He quietly sings in the characteristic tones of the fisherman’s ballads. Seemingly without rules, the pitch and tones alternate and repeat themselves as if they were synchronising with the ocean waves. Lai is one of the few people alive who knows the fisherman’s ballads intimately. None of his children experienced the harsh and unforgiving life at sea. This summer’s Life Is Art Festival previewed with the regional premiere screening of the documentary Graphic Means at Hong Kong Design Institute on 19 July with over 200 design industry professionals enjoying the film and a post-screening dialogue with Henry Steiner, the father of modern Hong Kong design, and Keith Team from HKDI. Presented by MOViE MOViE, supported by Hong Kong Design Institute and organised by Edited and Calvin Kwok, Graphic Matters is a special program within Life Is Art Festival exploring the evolution of graphic design production. And there’s more to come! Graphic Matters: From Analogue to Digital exhibition features a selection of graphic tools that played a vital role in their time. All begin with a nightmare. Zhu Yingtai wanted to explore herself in the Art School, but the idea was somehow inverted, she agreed her parents were right : Life is all about planning and answers. She wakes up and realizes she is indeed in the Art School, and a muse appears: Liang Shanbo. His composure stirs her thoughts; his manners raise questions. However, in contrast to the fertile inspiration of Zhu, Liang feels that he is eternally a piece of white paper – A painting that isn’t drawn, might as well not be drawn. MOViE MOViE Life is Art is bringing the film SUKITA: The Shoot Must Go On to local audience: a documentary about Japanese master photographer Masayoshi Sukita’s famous shoots of legendary rock stars including David Bowie. As such, PMQ Taste Library’s curator Andy Lai will create a few David-Bowie-inspired dishes in the workshop, exploring the exciting possibilities between music, film, photography and food.

We are honoured to be joined by some of the best musicians in the city, including Jazz guitar master Eugene Pao, Blues harmonica player Henry Chung, and West Coast Blues guitarist / vocalist Kevin Guffy. Together, the group will perform a number of blues classics to kick off our opening film – Eric Clapton: Life in 12 Bars & Whitney.

Directed by Oscar winner Ruby Yang, the film documents Hong Kong youth’s struggle to search for a purpose in life. The result is a heart-felt look into the aspirations of teenagers who were once deemed as failures.

MOViE MOViE 邀請了六位本地藝術家為我們創作一系列以電影為 靈感的紙膠帶，漫畫家江記與 John Ho 將心愛的電影角色搖身一變 成可愛的原創人物「企鵝丁丁」及「肉肉熊」； Noble Wong 與無紙 用工作室均以《阿飛正傳》為靈感，把戲中的經典場景和阿飛在電 影中起舞的片斷躍然於紙膠帶上；史提芬周以幽默筆觸畫出周星馳 的經典角色；練黑龍則以字畫藝術寫出他心中的經典電影對白。本
