I am out in these streets... I hear talent everyday! It’s a shame their music falls on deaf ears because of budget! What happened to supporting your industry? Your art? We all need each other to thrive! You never know who is watching or went by your recommendation that can make a great situation for someone you really “support.”

This doesn’t just apply to artists; DJs and producers are included as well. When you are in entertainment, you must have a fan base. Without fans, you’re just an “Average Joe” who has a hobby. Being able to talk up another artist, DJ, or producer when you fall into one of those elements only makes you look better. When someone hears the positive remarks you are giving, not only do they mention the name of who is being spoken of....they mention YOU! It’s a win-win! Social media plays a huge role in marketing and promotions, so much that it has created laziness! Yes, the internet is good because it spans your reach, but in order to penetrate a market and create that buzz, there is nothing better than ‘handto-hand combat.’ Creating those relationships and reaching the people show that you’re in this for longevity, not just a one hit wonder. It must start with you...if you lead, others will follow. How well or not so well does buying likes, follows, and/or views work? If your numbers don’t match across the board, you’re wasting your money! Getting your songs spun on the radio is in the best interests of any up-and-coming artist because just about every music exec looks at the radio industry as a proven ground for what’s going to stick with consumers and what gets rejected. In fact, most successful labels require the acts they sign to have a certain level of radio success to even consider signing the acts to their companies. In this issue, we have assembled the Knights of the Round Table. Whether they are in a club, on the air, they are sharing a stage with celebrities or performing themselves these DJs have proven time and time again that they deserve to be featured in our Affiliation Special Edition Issue. We are proud to be affiliated with each.

DJ 3-2-1 is a syndicated radio personality, Fleet DJ and proud Virginia State University alum. He believes “a DJs finesse sets the standard but as a business, numbers mark old and new territory, seen and unseen. There is no bar and no measured format, just drive and results of effortless work. “ Taking it back to the roots, DJ 3-2-1 stated,“I’ve always loved music, it’s been apart of my life for as long as I can remember. When I got to my teens, I remember always listening to the radio when the DJ would mix, and how they would manipulate the record and do tricks intrigued me. Then the icing on the cake was when ‘Rapcity: The Basement’ came on & they had different DJs up there and it sparked my interests in DJing even more.” High school was his crowning moment. He used to work in a library after school and one day he was daydreaming about being a mixtape DJ. Like DJ Clue or Envy. It was so vivid, he knew that was his destiny. “I’m going to do it, I’m going to be a DJ.” He even remembers his first gig...”it was during the summer after high school graduation and it was a house party. I only had a few records with me (before technology, we used to have to carry crates of vinyl) and I had no idea what I was doing, 3-2-1 laughs and continues, it was a good learning experience.” He has definitely come along way. As a musical taste-maker, the consistency and dedication are main ingredients to his success. With more than 11 years of experience, DJ 3-2-1 has laid a foundation in charity, corporate, family and university events. Embarking on his new gift and fan-base, DJ 3-2-1 has made a name for himself not only as a radio personality but also being critically acclaimed. Some of his most notable works have been “Righteous Teachings” and “Righteous Thoughts Reloaded” with Lupe Fiasco. One difference between a good and a great DJ is being able to read the crowd. After all, a DJ is supposed to keep ‘em dancing. “I’m looking to see if it’s mostly women or men in the crowd, if it’s mostly women then I’m rocking the twerk club songs, if it’s mainly men then I’m rocking the hood joints.” DJ 3-2-1 has his master plan... “I feel like I’m just starting to scratch the surface. I never
want to be content, I stay hungry and never settle. I want to take my DJing nationwide with radio and big events, then international. I’ve found my lane/niche, so now it’s time to elevate and grow... my motivation.” As far as upcoming projects, expect to see big things from DJ 3-2-1. You can catch him on 99.5 Jamz, 6-10pm weekdays. He still manages to drop mixtapes and DJ parties, not to mention stepping into planning his own events under 3-2-1 Events; the goal is to put together 1 event a month. All DJ 3-2-1 knows is hard work, dedication, and consistency. So maybe the phrase “it’s not what you know, but who you know” should be changed to “it’s not who you know, but what you know!” Contact info: www.dj3two1.com

Welcome to Louisiana. Home of Mardi Gras, crawfish, Fleet DJs, Future Star DJs, X Squad DJs, Chopstar DJs, Mixtape Lords, and DJ Whut It Dew! Where “time is money. If you ain’t got the money, I ain’t got the time.” Born in Pineville Louisiana, DJ Whut It Dew always knew he was on track to becoming a heavy player in the music industry. “I started DJing at 15 years old, when my cousin needed help doing parties and what not... I would pack up the equipment in my car and some in his and we would head to the parties or school dances and we would rotate throwing shows. So I got firsthand experience.” After the high school he ‘experienced’ some of life’s crossroads...he chose to join the Army instead. Whut It Dew got in the game because he felt the music, it spoke to him. Music was always his passion, it flowed through him. While stationed overseas he had plenty of down time so he opted to start doing mixtapes and network through the world wide web to keep him busy. With the help of his friend Billy T aka Jon Boi they put verbal conversation into a realistic business venture. Jon Boi told me,“We need to do this for real.” So Whut It Dew bought his own tables and recording equipment. Jon Boi snatched up the beat making equipment and they kicked it off from there. He always told me and others, “Whut It Dew gone make it, his work ethic is so far beyond any I’ve ever seen.” They formed Whut It Izz Entertainment and got a few heavy rappers to go with it and named the click ‘Dem Quota Boyz’ which consisted of DJ Whut it Dew, Billy T, & Scott Jones. Slimm Gutta and T. Gunz came on board later. Since they were all military, they eventually separated but still represent Whut It Izz. Now, it’s just in their own way. “We eventually one day hope to reconnect and get back to making music again together.” As DJ Whut It Dew states, “Being military and not being able to go to events to push artists the way I would like too, to me is a hardship.”
mixtapes and counting, you can rest assured he isn’t going anywhere. Moving forward in his dream, his goal, DJ Whut It Dew’s highly acclaimed mixtape series: Step Ya Greed Up, Ladies Choice, and Sippin on Screw Juice has earned him some very prestige’s nominations. Nominated for 10 total Southern Entertainment Awards and winning 2 so far plus many other award nominations, you can only imagine all the hustle and push this young man has made to make such an name for himself. “I was only in the mixtape game for 9 months when I got the first 2 SEA, and Justo nominees.” He remembers. Now as an elite member of The Fleet DJs, Chopstar DJs, X Squad Djs, and One Structure Inc, there seems to be nothing stopping the Talented Mixtape God. He is also ranked #33 of 100 Top World Mixtape DJs and nominated for 2014 SEA “Mixtape DJ of the Year.” But with all the personal success he is still humbled in his journey to keep independent artists, mixtape DJ’s and the music itself always in the spotlight.“I’ve done major collaborations but I mostly deal with independents. It’s my way of giving back. If I can help and the music is good, then I will do what I can.” So artists, pay attention! Without DJ Whut It Dew there would be far less independents getting countless exposure, majors jumping on mixtapes with no push and records simply not getting broken. Why are we sleeping on one of the best mixtape DJs in the game right now? Ask Whut it Dew and he’ll say,“I ain’t the best DJ in the world, but I’m the hottest DJ under the sun.”
He wasn’t gonna let that get him down though... his mixtape career went into overdrive with 200

He hails the stage name DJ Shark: Fleet DJ, Nerve DJ, Trill ENT DJ, Scratch Live Events DJ and is an on-air DJ. DJ Shark is the mix-show DJ and personality for the Fayetteville, NC based urban music radio station: WCCG 104.5 (Saturdays 12midnight-2am EST). Shark is also has affiliations with: Def Jam, Republic Records, Universal Records, Sony Records, and Epic Records. So how did all of this come about? Back in 1 9991 he and his best friend started South Florida’s electrifying teen DJ crew, the Pound Puppy DJ’s. It was a huge success! They were pounding the pavement all over the state of Florida which in turn landed them them their first single record deal with M.V.P. records in 1993 ‘Weed Head’ which sold over 50,000 hard copies! This momentum opened doors most folks could only dream about. Opportunity knocked when they opened their own teen night club in downtown West Palm Beach, Florida. DJ Shark decided to relocate to Louisville, KY where he now resides, and completed Barber College. He also attended the University of Kentucky and the University of Louisville studying Marketing and Marketing Management. Clearly DJ Shark had the makings of a “Hard On The Yard” DJ. A-Round 11 years ago, Shark began concert and party promotions throughout the Midwest. By 2005 the turntables were spinning in his blood, he couldn’t stay away. DJ Shark was back to his roots, DJing at clubs and venues throughout the surrounding areas. Though the turn tables are his home, they’re not his only haven. DJ Shark is not just a disc jockey; he is a musical pioneer and producer! From turntables to samplers...he’s got you covered.
Studios. This awarded him ‘Song of the Year’ in 2011 with the Kentucky Music Awards as well. DJ Shark has had the pleasure of working with Rick Ross, 2 Chainz, DMX, Acts Stuey Rock, Young Dro, Jerimih, Slick Rick, Dougie Fresh, Lil Boosie, Bobby Valentino, Lil Webbie, Rich Boy, Plies, Kirko Bangs, Yo Gotti, and many others. So please don’t blame his heart, blame his head if he missed you. Shark’s hard work continued to pay off. He was the Assistant Producer of A&E’s 2012 Documentary “Rules of the Game.” Promoted to the Fleet DJ’s Mid-West Music Representative and to top it off, in 2013 the Kentucky Music awards voted him Host / Hype Man of the Year! Shark continues to captivate audiences nationwide. His success stems from the ability to control his crowd; engaging them in the music which drives them not only to be listeners but participants in the DJ Shark experience. “I’m a party starter. Not your average DJ, but a crowd pleaser. My eclectic music database features anything from Hip-Hop to Electronic Dance to old school slow jamz. I can cater to crowds of thousands or intimate settings of in-store listeners. I know what you want to hear and when you want to hear it.” What makes DJ Shark stand out from the rest is that he goes beyond mixing music and has made himself an understudy of the craft. He is determined to stay at the top of his game, being able to take advantage of the great support system the DJ families have in place make this possible. “Some DJ’s play music, I create the ultimate experience.”
One of his esteemed accomplishments was producing the smash hit single ‘The Shizz’ which became the featured song and dance craze anthem for the N.B.A.’s 2010 First Round Draft Pick, John Wall of the Washington Wizards! It was also voted ‘Song of the Year’ by the Kentucky Music Awards. DJ Shark is also known for penning the hit ‘Who R U’ featuring world renowned DJ Drama, which was engineered at Monster Squad

Lil Ronny has been rapping since he was about nine years old however, he didn’t become real serious with his career until he was around 18. For the last 2 1/2 years he’s been doing shows every weekend...whew! This talented performer has shows from coast to coast and packs out every venue. Man, the adventures of an artist! The first thing on my list of questions for Lil Ronny, was who do you credit for success he says, “my mama, she is the driving force behind me, and with her blessings I am where I am today.” As far as music, his favorite rapper is Ice Cube, he likes that old school flava, you don’t get much of that nowadays. He does not want to be or sound like anyone else, why blend in if you were born to stand out? Believe it or not, he doesn’t listen to a lot of rap, Lil Ronny does not want that to interfere with his lyricism much less get him flustered. He prefers the smooth sounds of R&B. This Fam Life, Urban South entertainer has his most notable song “Circle” is that banger amongst the crowd. His current EP, “The Best Of” street edition and twerk edition. It is available on Amazon, iTunes, Google play... going digital. He’s got a mix tape that will be dropped in February and to date he’s released 14 already! As far as getting his music to the people, he believes that the people is in charge of the music being played in the different markets. Drop a couple of songs out there as bait to see if it will catch on and then hits the ground runnin’. Urban South Entertainment is a family, we all lookout for each other. It’s about choices, I just hope that I have a choice for everyone! “Since I am a guest in this issue of n’Rotation, let give me give a big shoutout to DJ Papa Ron! That’s my DJ!”

Four time Grammy nominee, Super Producer, Super Hot and Core DJ D-Rocc is an OG! D-Rocc has always had the love for music. Records were constantly played, his family was his biggest fan. They encouraged him to follow his dream. Growing up in St. Louis, this is where the adventures of D-Rocc started. Beginning in radio, Clear Channel was his springboard. Then onto holding the Presidency of Track Boyz Music. Six years ago, he graced the streets of Atlanta, which is now home. DJ D-Rocc has been in the booth for 11 years now. Currently, he is resident DJ at Boogalou Lounge, (inside the Perimeter) holding it down on the weekends! This step has been able to grow D-Rocc’s already huge fan base even more. D-Rocc also has his own label ‘Mixspinz Digital.” He provides artist development, radio promotions, management, and distribution. No sleeping on D-Rocc, he knows the business. Since his entry into the music industry, the biggest change has been “ the delivery of product. I remember loading up 30, I shit you not, 30 full milk crates full of records into my van. Then there were the dollys and the equipment. Getting to our location hours early because we usually had to carry all this up 3 or 4 flights of stairs! Twice a night, up and down. It was a killer on your back! Now, we have been given the blessing and curse of technology. I love technology, when used right.”
artists, stay in your lane. When asking about breaking records, D-Rocc replied, “yes, lots of music gets broke in the strip clubs, but there is a process before it gets there. It actually has to ‘pass’ the local, hood spots, generation spots, the grass roots. These establishments must give it their stamps, once the locals approve it...off to the strip club.” Sounds like the city of Atlanta is really in control of what comes out! Leave it to the people, the fans! If D-Rocc was given the power to make one change in the music industry, what would it be? “The business model. There are cities out there that need to be heard. There are talented artists that never get exposed, A&R reps aren’t out there like they used to be. In fact, I can’t tell you the last time I saw one.” Being a member of my “fraternity” - he quickly corrected me when I used the term coalition - “the Core DJs are a fraternity of brothers and sisters that are family. We adopted the family base mentality.” Having the backing of such a powerful entity “provides unlimited resources, reunions, and interaction with people from all over the world.” After all, the more voices heard will make the greatest impact.
I’m sure you can imagine someone who has been in the business this long has seen it all...but when it comes to things that really get him hot under the collar “ dealing with drunks at the club.” Having fun and a good time is one thing, but not so much you can’t remember what fun you had. Also, “the uneducated artists” who give him CDs in the club and expect him to spin their music on the spot. Can I get an Amen! That just happened to be a ‘Vinyl Thought’ article in a past N’Rotation issue. Artists need to understand they gotta give it time, “we have to be able to work their record in. If we just put it out like they think we should, it would fail every time.” A DJ is a DJ for a reason; N’ROTATION MAGAZINE / MPRINTMEDIA, LLC / AFFILIATION 2014

DJ Reckonize was born in Newark, NJ. He was blessed to grow up listening to every type of music genre in his household. It was his environment where he learned to embrace music. It became his passion. He said, “I remember listening to DJs on the radio like Red Alert and so many others, I noticed that the songs I was listening to could sound so different. They could be played all together without missing a beat.” He embraced this style and therefore a new DJ was born. DJ Reckonize moved to California then Miami in the late 80’s and before he turned 18 he was on South Beach clubs scene promoting! You would see him carrying record crates for some DJs and even doing the light show effects for some as well. Although he loved the DJ art form, it was not until he came across DJ Felix Sama who he says was a true motivator for him. Changing his passion into a career was the pivotal point for DJ Reckonize. He had direction. With the assistance from James de La Razza, they were part of the pioneers that brought life back into the Latin Source Magazine. He currently resides in NJ where he is a member of BadInk DJs, a subdivision of New Jersey’s BadInk Music Group. Plus, I received a text a couple of weeks ago that Reckonize had just joined Brick Squad Monopoly DJs. He was so excited, I could feel it coming through the phone! He is also the founder and CEO of DirtyJerzey DJs, Exclusive Tunez DJs and Record Pool, Sonicboom Marketing and Promotions not to mention his computer repair business, “Power Tech PC Solutions.” These are just a few things that keep him busy, he is also employed by one other entity... DJ Reckonize currently works for Fresh Kid Ice aka Chinaman of the legendary 2 Live Crew at ‘Chinaman Records.’ He stated, “there are 5 of us (DJs) that are on call at any time and a matter of fact, we are fixing to fly to Vegas for a show.” Didn’t see that one coming, however, I was blessed to hear the story of how that came
to be...let me just say, don’t burn your bridges and take advantage of every opportunity that is available. You never know who you might run into. Let it be known, in the words of Reckonize, “I’ve never worked a day in my life.” Back to his extensive DJ affiliations, Reckonize stated, “I have the source of receiving music, we spin the records, but put the Jersey spin on it. We all sit down and choose what the next new song that will be on their radar and continue to push it on the radio. We work with DJs all over the world, since we put our Jersey Club flare on it, the records can spin overseas where other hip hop would not be able.” The benefits of being part of a coalition is “it’s more of a family structure verses a business. Our reach is limitless.” The face of Exclusive Tunez DJs is “there is no “face” per say... we don’t want to be known as celebrity DJs; we want to share the love of music. Our goal is stop the cut throating in the DJ world. The number 1 thing we as DJs love, other than our tables, is music. That is what we provide. Oh, I don’t charge for my record pool. This is my way of giving back too. I also want to teach the young DJs coming up, how to respect and master their craft, the right way. I believe that a true DJ plays and mixes any and every genre of music across the board.” “I used to have to take the Greyhound to Tommy Boy on Broadway and Def Jamz was across the street. This was the ONLY way to get wax. It was a process.” Distribution has made it easier to get music whether you’re a DJ or not. “ There is definitely not as much exclusivity like it used to be. This, I believe has diminished the value as an art form. And too many individuals coming in this industry from a bedroom standpoint... Your 15 minute mix does not make you a DJ. If these people would have to have bought vinyl like we did, a lot of these DJs wouldn’t exist.” Reckonize wanted to acknowledge many, but the Jersey Club Music stood out. BadInk CEO, Sincere; DJ JayHood, DJ Tameil “Jersey Club Music, it’s not just a genre, it’s a culture.”

DJ Swiper was born in Washington, D.C. and moved to Florida as a teenager. He started installing car audio systems because he loved music. The drop of the bass he would hear was music to his ears while he was busy working on the cars. As a local Jacksonville, Florida DJ, Swiper has made a name for himself over the last 10 years. He started to branch out to other cities in Florida, realized he wanted more. So he decided to promote, push, and sell himself. He’s made himself flexible with different styles of music which include Old School Hip hop, R & B, gangster rap, new school, and more. He’s been able to break new music from artists as far away as California all the way back to Florida. Although he is not signed with anyone, he is affiliated with many, many coalitions. He believes in the “help me as much as I help you theory. Being able to reach into these networks is a gift.” Swiper’s got his eye on his prize. “I want to be signed to a label and do much more.” On to bigger and better things. “I break records.” Major artists 2 Chains and Emerson Windy are featured on a song he broke first called “Money Up” with local artist Chris Knite. Practicing everyday to get his skills where they are, and make a name for himself by promoting himself.

Quit being greedy! “ When asked about some of his current projects, he stated, “I have my new mixtape coming out soon called ‘JUST DO IT VOL.1’–“I just started doing mixes honestly. I show love to everybody as a DJ and more.” DJ Swiper’s second mixtape was ‘ORLANDO CLASSIC WEEKEND 2013-2014 CAR SHOW’. His current mixtape is due this month, February 2014. There are many other DJs who played a role in influencing DJ Swiper’s style. He credits the following: DJ Top Flight, DJ Bronco, DJ Koolaid, DJ Ajizm, DJ Dr. Doom, and DJ Gitt. These men helped open many doors to people that I would not otherwise have had. He loves to touch his Numark turntables to entertain his crowd. Swiper will proudly tell anyone how he began, “I’m not just a DJ, I’m an entertainer. I started off in strip clubs for real and doing hood parties.” Not until recently did he start doing mix tapes, he saw this as an opportunity to help artists get their music out of their market. It has been a huge success. His only complaint was when I asked what is the one thing that pisses him off...”club owners! Pay the damn DJ what they are worth. We been in the

The best part of my job is that I get to bring you careers from the beginning. It goes to say that I was very excited after I heard how DJ Timeko T began on her path to the turntables. She starts out with, “It all started when I used to watch ‘Video Soul’ with Donnie Simpson.” Now some of you might not remember that BET played music all the time and different genres. , I knew how much I loved music but refused to spend all that money on it! I thought I wanted a 9-5.” Good for us, that DJ Timeko T chose to answer her calling! She really kinda just fell into it. She had inspiration from her family, some who are DJ’s as well. DJ Timeko T decided to go for it and purchased her first set of DJ instruments. She was hooked! Just so you know, this was a mere 4 years ago.
Props to the other DJs. “I really admire and respect all the different DJs out there, I look up to them all.” The different techniques and qualities each DJ portrays is inspiring. “I learn from them all, we are really just one big family full of supporters.” Creating her own sound in the perfet niche for DJ Timeko T. She loves being able to take music from different genres and infuse them together. This is how she stands out from the rest, OH, yes, she LIKES to play requests from the crowd. Grown-n-Sexy is her style, mixxing ‘old school with new’ and being able to reach the crowd as a whole...the rules of engagement! DJ Timeko T only regret, “I wish I would have done this sooner.”
When I was first introduced to DJ Timeko T, I just knew she was a “well seasoned” vetern in the DJ community. Fleet DJ, Coast 2 Coast DJ, and Defination DJ, not to mention 2014 SEA nominee for ‘Best Female DJ’! Oh, she also the official DJ for Game Music Group (GMG) Needless to say, with all this going on, she also gives back to her city of Denver, CO. DJ Timeko T is the spokeswoman for Mo’ Better Green Market Place (a farmer’s market) on the importance of eating healthy since she was recently diagnosed with diabetes. “It’s about educating the community and sharing personal experiences with them.” DJ Timeko T is a great women’s advocate, being this a male dominated industry, she has to make sure she does not fall custom to the “over saturation of DJs due to technology.” She will be one of the first to tell you, “just because you have the equipment, doesn’t make you a DJ. It take great skill, patience, time, and practice.” If she could change one thing in the music industry it would be the negative sterotypes that are portrayed. First thing she would address is the artists only having light skinned girls in their videos. Listening to artists refer to “redbones like they are better than dark skinned women. I know lots of females who are dark skinned and beautiful, but have low self esteem and have skin complex issues.” (SMH!!) DJ Timeko T is also ready for artists to quit “dumbing down” music just because it’s trendig. It seems the more ignorant a song is, the better it does on the charts. (shrugs?!) Y A B AY B
Here he is, DJ Bay Bay, Mr. I-20, The Ambassador, and a Black Bottle Boy. Bay Bay represents Shreveport, LA & Dallas, TX. This LA-TEX representative has been on the scene for some time during notable runs with Hurricane Chris naming his song ‘A Bay Bay’ after him in 2007. DJ Bay Bay has been known as the originator of the ‘Ratchet Movement’ in the South and serves as the popular radio personality on Dallas’s K-104 station weekdays 3-7pm. We took our interview to the scenic rooftop of the NYLO Hotel across the street from the historic “Southside On Lamar” building. Gotta give him a greater level of respect. He pulled his Bay Bay University hoodie over his ears and gave us a great interview. Bay Bay went to private school growing up and had an very religious upbringing. He was reciting the books of the Bible at the age of 2. He graduated Fair Park High School at 16 then went on to Grambling University for 2 years where he was a member of the Grambling State University World Famous Tiger Marching Band. After Bay Bay left GU, he returned to his high school alma mater and taught dance choreography. This led him to emceeing for the band. This pretty much was the turning point. Bay Bay landed a job as a radio personality which turned him onto the club scene. “I was the emcee. Those opportunities that I was blessed with, shaped me to be who I am today.” Overlooking the Dallas skyline, Bay Bay kicked us some deep knowledge... “most people don’t understand or know that 95% of the things I do doesn’t make any money. It’s about learning to live off that 5. Just like, information + application = transformation.” Change your perspective, change your life. The negativity that people walk around with is felt and most of the time, they don’t even realize how much they are infecting other people. “Front line, that’s me. I’m a personality. People will study you, dress for success.”
When it comes to being in the public eye like he is, I asked him how does he pay it forward to the communities. “Road to Success and We Touch The People are all about that. I don’t want to be perceived as a Lady GaGa where people are running after me. I want to be in the communities, hands on, sharing and learning from them. We Touch The People, they should learn how to welcome it. Ya know, I read people...I can tell when they need that ear. Road To Success mentors, directs, talks, whatever someone needs. If I can be that someone, I know I don’t have all the answers, but I can share personal experiences and my thoughts to help guide those who reach out.” DJ Bay Bay is a proud member of the Heavy Hitters which was started by DJ Enough out of NY. The Heavy Hitters are a unique coalition, but they are family. Their span is international. “We share and teach each other,” he says. They are very selective, on how they choose the DJs that control the market. “It’s about growth and development. Your network determines your net worth. Each one, reach one, teach one.” When I asked Bay Bay what he thought of the social media movement, he broke it down to the skeleton. “I feel strongly about social media. We are in a coming of age with technology and it’s truly an outlet. I look at it like a 2 stroke engine...you gotta have the right elements in order for it to work correctly. The right amount of oil (social media) and the right amount of gas (life) creates a well oiled machine. With all that said, you can’t be ignorant to the fact, our span of reach is far greater online, than in person, unfortunately we as a society are so involved with social media that we can’t reach them.” But Bay Bay has truly been on fire as of lately. Not only has his new single “Trunk Fulla’ featuring Jim Jones, Dorrough Music & Yo Gotti been making noise on the streets, but the Mayor of his hometown has officially named October 21st “Hollyhood Bay Bay Day” in Shreveport, LA! Additionally, Bay Bay has a label deal with Rick Ross’ Maybach Music Group! Now you know Mr. I-20 is staying on the road.

When you hear the name DJ Kayotik (pronounced KayOtik), you need to prepare to be entertained. Kayotik is a/k/a “The People’s Host”, “The Movie Director” & not to long ago he became one of the “Black Bottle Boys”. We gonna get all that. Wanna talk about Chaos? This Video Mixoligist, Celebrity DJ and/or DJ to the Stars, Master of ceremonies & Radio Personality, and philanthropist, embodies every letter of the word, Chaos. We caught up to DJ Kayoik the Movie Director on the set if his latest club experience. Kayotik explains his club/movie meaning as a live interactive experience. “I look for the actors on the floor and give them their own theme song...when they leave, they know that they have enjoyed experience”. Let’s get to the man from behind the booth and dig into the Chaotic crate of his mind. His DJ career started in 2007, but he’s touched the many parts of the business of partying. “I’ve been the promoter I’ve been the M.C. And now the DJ. I’m a jack of all trades. I start my day off with; my Starbucks, and getting my kids ready for the day. I’m a family man, and then it’s off to my morning grind.” If you put his day into chronological order it would fill more than enough pages of this issue. When asked about rest, Kayotik quickly puts that idea to rest, “Hustlers are always active, we don’t sleep, we might take a nap!” With his 30-60-90 day way of planning, its no wonder why his on time delivery of his Kayotik world comes with packed venues and satisfied fans. In 2011, DJ Kayotik organized “The Kayotik Foundation, Inc.”, K.A.Y.O.T.I.K (Kareem’s Alternative Youth Options To Improve Kids). His non-profit organization is dedicated to improving quality of life for young adults by focusing on issues of literacy and
self-esteem. Through his grind and branding events, Kayotik aims to inspire not only the young adults but he plans on leaving an impact throughout the community. He consistently travels to different schools to talk to children about the importance of an education and how his job as a DJ is very serious and requires a lot of training. DJ Kayotik says, “Positivity is what I will continue to use to help inspire the young adults in our communities and raise awareness and support. During DJ Kayotik’s tenure as a DJ, Kayotik has held the residency of some of the most notable clubs in Dallas such as the #1 Club in the south... Beamers Night Club. Known around the globe as the King Of The Clubs…His mixture of music depends on the night and city you catch him in . Residing in Dallas but born and raised in New York City, Kayotik takes the combination of DJing and MC’ing and creates blockbuster nights for anyone who steps in his ‘SET’. Over the years DJ Kayotik’s ‘Sets’ have included legendary clubs like , Opus , Beamers , Ghost Bar , Sting , Kinki Lounge , Privae , Vain, and our current location for this interview, Luxx. You can check out DJ Kayotik’s radio show every weekend “KAYOTIK WEEKENDS” Saturday 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on 97.9 The Beat “The Hip Hop Station” I asked DJ Kayotik to get on his soapbox in regards to the industry, he sits up and delivers, “You must stay Humble. Its all about relationships. 95% relationships and 5% work.” He takes to those percentages and go beyonds the 100% average.“I can remember somebody telling me that I couldn’t be a DJ, ‘Stay in your lane’, is what I heard. I turned that into my drive to succeed.” DJ Kayotik proves his naysayers wrong, “A doubter and a hater is my biggest motivator.” So you know when you hear the name DJ Kayotik get ready to be entertained. DJ KAYOTIK is not only known for bringing excitement to the party; DJ KAYOTIK is the party!

BC M SOUTHERN FRIED MARKETING
After a few scheduling conflicts, I was finally able to sit with the man that refuses to have business cards, yet he has been running a very lucrative business for over 15 years. He refers to himself as the "binding of the book, the glue that holds everything together. I make sure it reads right." He said and I quote " the hardest part of doing my job is telling people I get this." He's a brand ambassador, "I'm not trying to be on the cereal box, I'm behind the scenes. I'm in and out before you know it. If you are looking for me, I have already left." To be quite honest, "this is my first real interview". I immediately stopped him in his tracks, "not to worry, yes, it's an interview, but more of a conversation... I want to listen and talk to you." I could see the sigh of relief in his eyes. Sharing a bench outside of 97.9 the Beat radio station, we got comfortable and I started tapping into the great knowledge of BC Newton, CEO of Southern Fried Marketing. This man has his hands in everything, not only does he work with the music industry, he also contracts out to small businesses and the film industry. BC states, "the only way to be successful is to have the RIGHT team in place. There is no motha fuckin' I in team. Otherwise, we wouldn't be sitting here having this conversation." How true he is. We were able to really touch on the music industry as a whole: artists, DJs, labels, A&Rs, and producers. So follow us through this journey, we are gonna kick ya some knowledge and keep it one hundred 'BC style.' Artists and I quote, "if you haven't worked your record for a year, you ain't worked your record. And that's a statement from BC". BC is tied with the 33 major markets and knows what he is talking about. Some artists tend to sit on music and wait for the right time to release it...."what the fuck for? Music is a disease, if the record is hot, it's gonna spread! If you get one, you will get two." When asked what does he feel is the most problematic issue of an artist that is holding them back, BC replied "the artist doesn't understand their record's GOTTA be BIGGER than they are. They don't want to hear that. If an artist has been in the game for 8 years, don't know what single they pushin, and haven't had any sales...
they hustlin' period. They aren't in business, they have a hobby." "The DJs are the artist's voice." One won't survive without the other. Instead of trying to find the next plug, these artists need to network and I mean talk to these DJs. They will need to converse more than once. It's about building that rapport. How do you bring the support back? "You gotta show them. Some folks don't come with understanding. Everything ain't for everybody." BC breaks records, he gets music to the DJs. But the artists can't just sit back and watch, you want to be taken seriously. "You don't have to be my friend to do business." Don't get it twisted, the DJs aren't off the hook. BC remembers when the DJ had to travel to the labels and pick up wax! Nowadays, "very few know how to cue it up and catch it. Shit, they didn't even use headphones". It all comes back to history, the disc jockey. Know your art, master your craft. Part of the problem stems from the original sound of production. DJs used to scratch on the rap records. However, " good music is coming back. Not the snap, crackle, and pop. Mr. Lee, super producer out of Houston is testimony to this. Be on the lookout for what's coming down the pipes from Mr. Lee." Since BC is an A&R, give the credit back. He's making sure that the business is constantly moving, thus his slogan, "the streets don't sleep." Listen to what you should do and not what you want to do. Artists need to build a team with perfect representation. Keep in mind, you don't always need a manager. "You might have nothing to manage." You need promotions. There's a difference. "Empowering each other is key and the 'Chitlin Circuit' is the ONLY way." "How do you build a house with a bad foundation? How can you build a career without a solid foundation? If you don't get it, it may not be for you." Chew on that.... BC out. Hip hop is reverting back to the streets, trust that!

‘Put the needle on the record, put the needle on the record when the down beat goes’....you will see and hear DJ Dasmatic, otherwise known as TJ Mizell, do just that! Who is DJ Dasmatic? Maybe you’re more familiar with his given name, TJ Mizell. He was born into a life of music. He picked up a violin in Kindergarten, was introduced to percussion by his Dad and started playing drums in third grade. TJ was rocking! He also went on to study Music Theory in college. It was only a matter of time before the turntables were calling his name. His greatest musical influence is, of course, his father, the legendary Jam Master Jay of Run DMC. TJ recalls, “ the first time I touched the turntables I was 11, my Dad took me to the Scratch DJ Academy....I fell in love. The love as an art form. I didn’t blend or mix, it was all about the scratch.” Though he wasn’t directly taught by his father how to DJ, his upbringing
at the Scratch DJ Academy, founded in 2002 by JMJ, shaped him into the successful and talented DJ that he is today. Please, sit back, relax as we take a journey through TJ Mizell aka DJ Dasmatic. TJ started interning at Scratch when he moved back to NYC almost 4 years ago. He is paying his dues, “you gotta earn your rank” he adds, starting from the bottom as an intern he has paved his way to being faculty... TJ teaches the DJ 101 courses at the Scratch DJ Academy. PSA: the Scratch DJ Academy is opening in Atlanta on 2.15.14. Please visit scratch.com for more details! This young man is certainly making HIS mark in the industry: DJing, producing, and teaching. TJ has already played all over the country and DJ’d alongside some of today’s most talented musicians. DJ Dasmatic is also one half half of ofthe thebass bassbooming, booming, party partyrockrock
ing, DJ producing duo the Insurgents. Dasmatic partnered up with “super, super deep in the family friend (brother from another mother)” Ryot. When asked why a duo, “ the interaction with the crowd is key, while one of us is spinning, the other can engage the crowd even more. The chemistry we have is felt and we want to let it be heard. It’s all about the chemistry.” In fact, the Insurgents were on a seven country European tour last summer. Be sure to look out for more from these two! His background and vast knowledge of music have led TJ to play everywhere from laying down sets at SXSW in Austin, Texas, playing for the Magic Trade Show in Las Vegas to sharing the stage with Run DMC at the Made In America Festival. This past year alone, TJ has already been featured in Hyundai and Seagate commercials. He has appeared on Bet’s 106 and Park, Fox News, NBC News, TV One, The Better show, The Travel Channel among others. TJ has also been booked for Good Morning America on March 7th (such a great day, we both share the same birthday) be sure to mark your calendars. TJ has been spending time in the studio and producing content for his for upcoming projects. In fact, he has new music that drops in Feburary... It’s my honor to be able to announce the release of ‘Diamonds’ (Lorde vs Swizzymack Mashup) Music Video by TJ Mizell x SEENO (bit.ly/TJMdia) I created a bit.ly so it would be easier to checkout. He also just wrapped up his gig for the Super Bowl. So does TJ get a break from the daily hustle of the music business? He stated,“I must maintain balance, everyone needs a therapeutic outlet...mine is skateboarding and snowboarding. But, I only snowboard once a season. I wanted to be a professional skateboarder growing up. I love the X Games, I’m going to them this year too! So I skate the streets of Manhattan to give me balance.” When asked about his goals, TJ replied, “I would like to be able to broaden everyone’s taste in music. There is so much to appreciate, we should welcome it.” Being affiliated with so many different DJs has let DJ Dasmatic appreciate what he is striving to be...”a great, household DJ name.” As it relates to making a difference, what is the one thing that
he would change within the industry? “The violence, definitely the violence. There are parts of the music industry that are way too cut throat. And like people get hurt, they loose their lives over it and I think that music should do the opposite. The violence has to stop!” In the words of DJ Dasmatic, “I AM most definitely record breaker!! Being able to slip the underground artists on a track is awesome. It’s all about finding what works best and catching the cue.” There you go, ladies and gentleman....the rest is history. TJ Mizell is a driven and ambitious young man that works day in and day out to make moves that will continue to fuel his vision of success. TJ has also taken on the responsibility of becoming a board member on the JMJ Foundation which is a nonprofit, committed to the continuity of music; making the arts accessible to kids regardless of their socio-economic status. They have several arts and cultural events leading up the grand event. They are also providing scholarships for the youth. Visit JamMasterJay.org to see how you can help make a difference!

Chill Will, is one of the souths most dynamic up and coming talents. He is a potential force to be reckoned with. By being one of the hardest working hustlers in the game he is making a strong name for himself. Now I say HUSTLER because this hard worker never stops & never accepts the word NO! Chill Will is a Coast2Coast Mixtape DJ, Fleet DJ, Cool Running DJ, radio DJ and a member of Team Bigga Rankin. DJ Chill Will made his OFFICIAL debut in the music world in 2009 after working some time behind the scenes. In 1 year he did everything from put out mixtapes, collaborate with up-and-coming artists, and did freelance A&R work. All-the-while he honed in on his craft as a DJ and he studied the business side of the industry. DJ Chill Will definitely has the blueprints in front of his face. Music has always played an important factor in Chill Will’s upbringing. He started with percussion, at the young age of 14 he was playing the drums in his church. He has 2 uncles that are DJs (one is still at it), who were responsible for first introducing him to the turntables.
artists. Real talk.” Chill Will’s genre of preference is hip hop. Some of the best music is right here in the ATL! From the underground to mainstream, he’s always looking for new music. He had this to say regarding submitting your music to him, “there needs to be a level of rapport established, don’t blast me, I want to learn about you as an artist. If I’m not the best suited for your music, I can point you in the right direction. I need to know you’re serious about your grind and not in this for the short term. I can tell the difference. If you are buying views, likes, and shit; that is a bitch ass sucka move. The cheap way out, you have no hustle, grind, ambition, no nothing. How can I respect that?” Guess most don’t realize word travels faster when there some bullshit involved. Chill Will can be heard every Tuesday on K100 from 8-9pm and Thursday’s on Grind It Out from 9:3011:30pm. You can call in request your favorite song 347-633-9061. I asked who inspires him to push to be the best DJ he can be, “these men have no idea... I salute my brothers: Bigga Rankin, Tony Neal, Frank White, King Pin, and Swamp Izzo.”
When asked what has he experienced to be one of the best benefits of being part of a coalition he replied, “coalition life has put my career as a DJ on a whole new level... Instead of one voice, you have the backing of the family. The reach is endless. Albeit dropping a new project, artist, or both...they help spread the word out for artists. You can’t forget the badass networks we have access to.” DJ Chill Will has goals in sight. He wants to build his brand solid, be known as one of the best mixtape DJs out. He does have a soapbox, so when it comes...listen. “Artists that are not humble and present themselves as if we owe them something, man...don’t get me started. We are trying to help them, we reach out and they don’t reach back. Shit, if we tweeting and promoting your music, at least reach back. A shout out, something. That makes us not want to work with unappreciative

DJ Y T R I H 7T
DJ 7Thirty is a man on a mission. He is a Fleet DJ, Cool Running DJ, owner of STRONGARM MEDIA which includes but not limited to: graphic design, videographer, photographer, and producer! Despite his intense schedule, we were able to chat during the Super Bowl! I know, bad timing on my part, but we made it happen! DJ 7Thirty is a Brooklyn, NY native with no flashy beginning. His passion for music began as a child listening to old records at family gatherings. As time passed, he was gifted with two dirty crates of records and his first set of turntables by his sister. What a great sis! Mind you, this was back in the late 80’s. DJ 7Thirty started out with your average block parties and other local events. Needless to say, he has come along way, starting from the bottom. One of his more memorable moments has been his extremely successful mixtape series “Block Huggaz.” This series has taken the whole mixtape game hostage. His mixtapes have been rated #1 on numerous mixtape sites. His fan base stretches from Atlanta to Berlin, Germany! Given the history that 7Thirty has, I asked him what one thing would he change if he could within the music industry as a whole. He replied,“one thing I would change is how anyone can be a DJ...being a DJ used to be a craft that only the elite would learn and master. Now socalled DJs rock a club with no turntables or CDJs. Turntablism is a dying craft.” For those of you who frequent a club, pay attention to the music flowing from the speakers, you will know exactly what he’s talking about. “The best part of being in a coalition is the ability to have a group of DJs moving in one direction for a positive goal.” The unity that is given off by these ladies and gentlemen is nothing shy of amazing! Their close networks allow them to share the good and not so good. Having the backing of your fellow members creates the biggest noise. This coins the old phrase,’one band, one sound.’ The coalitions are a prime example of that, it’s working smarter, not harder.
You know every one has pet peeves, so when you visit DJ 7Thirty at his residence (no, I’m not talking about his home) VIP Lounge in Decatur, GA this is what not to do! “I hate annoying song requests...one time this girl wrote a list of songs on a napkin and handed it to me...NO GOOD.” A list is NEVER a good sign anyway. DJ 7Thirty learned early in life that there is so much more he can offer the world besides playing records. Don’t get him twisted, that plays a huge role, but he’s also a business man. He will continue to captivate the audiences and clients he works with. At the same time, “I will never accept limitations and will constantly defy the doubting haters who thought I couldn’t do it.”

Let me start off with a quote, “My motha %ucking name is DJ OO Kee, pronounced Double “O” Kee...it’s not ookie! With that out of the way, DJ OO Kee is a native of Columbus, Georgia. “My knowledge, passion and love for music has embarked me on my journey. I’ve been in the music industry in some way, shape, fashion or form for 16 years. I started DJing at 17.” During high school, Carver High School, he was a member of the Carver Tigers Marching Band. OO Kee played the trumpet and drums, then became the band choreographer paving the way for the scholarship he received to attend Morris Brown College in Atlanta. While attending Morris Brown, he discovered his motivation and desire for music. It took him to the next level, there are so many levels to this. DJ OO Kee was born. I asked him about his name, he replied “DJ Fresh gave me my name, I was trying to do everything like 007..he came up with OO Kee and it stuck. Salute my brother!”
words of the OG,“non grooming cats...if you want the part, position, deal, you name it, dress for success. This is a business and if you want to be taken seriously, shave, pull up your pants, iron up a crease and present yourself accordingly. There’s always a time and place. I’m just saying.” OO Kee is a record breaker, it’s a DJs due diligence to do so, but again, it goes back to presentation. “Mix and master your product, if you (the artist) doesn’t value your art, then why should I. You only get one time to make that first impression, don’t let me size you up wrong.” .....Preach!!! As DJ OO Kee looks back, he can only humbly admire all his hard work and commitments. They have paid off, “I have had the pleasure to work with many community leaders; both important and famous people of interest throughout my journey. And it’s not over yet!!”
OO Kee would work at various night clubs, wedding receptions, anywhere that requested a DJ. It didn’t matter if the demographic were kids or the community, He was involved! Then, he got that 1... he received an offer that he could not resist. “I became a weekend air personality for WFXE Foxie 105 radio station, Columbus, GA.” “I went from just being a weekend Jock and working in various night clubs all over the state, to a full time professional Air Personality, Mix Show Coordinator, to my current position as Music Director of Foxie 105. Not to mention being inducted to the Hittmen DJs, Super Hot DJs, receiving an impeccable amount of acknowledgments and awards, to starting my own DJ Coalition, Hood Approved DJs. Furthermore, I am personally proud of is receiving a forty percent share of my market from 7pm-12am, during spring 2011; according to Arbitron Rating Incorporated.” Talk about great networking. What a plethora of knowledge! I had the pleasure of speaking with Mother Mayhem, CEO of Mayhem Entertainment and VP of Super Hot DJs. This woman is nothing shy of entrepreneurial spirit. She has been in the game, music business some way, shape or form. Mother Mathem believes that everyone deserves a chance, that’s why the Super Hot DJs were created. They don’t discriminate on talent or tenure, “as long as the DJ has the drive to succeed, we can do business.” I know that sounds too good to be true, so I delve further, “they must pick up that 10 pound phone and call me! If you are wanting to do business, we gotta talk. We must establish a rapport. This lets me know how serious you are about your craft. I don’t do business via text or email. I’m a people person. If you can’t talk to me, I can’t expect you to handle business correctly.”
flow. It’s a win-win for all.” Trying to get this though hard heads can be challenging. Some look at support as they are taking away from themselves when in fact it’s quite the opposite All we can do is to continue to show support and know that we have done our part. So the next time your out in dem streets and run into Mother Mayhem, make sure you introduce yourself. “Everyone crosses my path for a reason, it’s either a short term or a life long relationship. I welcome both. You were put there for us to learn something from each other.”
Under Mayhem Entertainment, Mother Mayhem provides management, promotions, and knowledge. She is full of resources and guards them carefully. Mother Mayhem has worked with some of these people so long, they have developed a true friendship. She couldn’t stress the importance of networking. “The music industry can be nasty, it only takes 1 time to smear your name...a lot never recover from it. I have seen it destroy many careers. Even though the industry is huge, it’s so small. We all talk, it’s business. We look out for one another.” Another principle Mother Mayhem prides herself on, is the ability to tell you like it is. “You would rather hear it from me, than the public. If something sucks, I’m gonna tell you. I certainly don’t want you to go out and make a fool of yourself. Not only do you make yourself look bad, your make me look bad. I’m not having that. I worked too hard to create my brand.” Don’t get Mother Mathem on her soapbox... Support! There are too many people, artists, DJs, etc. out there that will not support others. If everyone would work together, everyone gets a piece of the pie. “Positive energy, positive mentality creates nothing but positive N’ROTATION MAGAZINE / MPRINTMEDIA, LLC / AFFILIATION 2014

Master of the Mix ATL Runner-Up. Super Producer. Strong Arm DJ. Super Hot DJ. Hood Hard DJ. Piping music back and forth from Atlanta to Miami on that midnight train... let me introduce you to DJ Miami Myztro. The love of music was instilled at a young age, during Saturday morning clean up DJ Miami stated, “Mama would play old records for us while we worked, music made it seem easy.” I wonder if Mama realized what she was creating by playing these records to help speed things along? Then when Miami landed his first job as a DJ, it was at Clark Atlanta’s 98.1 radio station. He said,“I was in way over my head, but I learned real fast. The collegiate crowd will have your a$$ if you’re not up on their music. Good thing I was blessed by the good Lord above and am not a bad looking guy, so it worked in my favor if the ladies weren’t pleased.” We both snickered! Miami admitted, “that experienced definitely seasoned and helped mold me as a DJ.” “Connecting with DJ Aaries, CEO of Hood Hard Hitmakers, was one of the most pivotal relationships I established, he showed me Atlanta. He turned me onto the street pulse. Just like Flo Rida, CEO of Strong Arm DJs, we run Miami!” Come to find out, there are only 3 Strong Arm DJs in Atlanta. He then got on board with Mother Mayhem and the Super Hot DJs via advice from Aaries to further his Atlanta presence. DJ Miami prides himself by working hard for everything that he has been blessed with, however he made a great point. “Keeping my face clean everywhere I go has definitely been the reason for my elevated successes and career.” So what’s the benefits of being in the coalitions? Miami replied, “the ability to get our hands on what you can’t do individually, let’s face it, there is always that 1 song. Plus we get exclusives **perks** and the resources are invaluable.” When it comes to booth life, Miami likes to infuse different flavors into his mix. He thrives when the smart phones start getting pulled out, he knows the crowd is on ‘Shazam’ trying
to figure out what dope song he just played. “Think of DJ Miami Myztro as the ‘Kanye West of the DJs’ he pushes that envelope.” Miami is a record breaker!! He gets, “I can’t believe you had the balls to play that record” all the time. But it’s a different story when it makes it’s way out of the speakers. Miami explains, “they are looking at it from the wrong perspective, when it comes to breaking records, you HAVE to have the ability to mix it in with the local music and do it in a way that it’s appreciated.” DJ Miami’s claim to fame is the coveted resident DJ and Music Director at Sparkle’s Smyrna. He shares the Adrenaline Award for ‘Best Adult Night’ in the US. The Adrenaline Award is given by the ‘Our Family Skate Association, an organization dedicated to empowering and uplifting urban communities through roller skating events, projects, and programming. Sparkle’s packs hundreds of adults and “when you look out and see people moving and dancing because I just dropped that jam, it’s an unreal sight.” Miami is a “purest” when it comes to turntablism. He stated, “because of the DJ that I inspire to be like DJ Jazzy Jeff, Kid Capri, DJ Angelo, Marky D, these men helped to pioneer the art. I want to be the ultimate mix of their old with my new and rock the crowd!” DJ Miami has to have that movement under his hands, he’s connected to his craft! “To be a champion, you gotta have that edge if you want to be the starter...otherwise your a$$ will be benched.” - DJ Miami Myztro He’s a straight shooter, no dummy downing it from Miami. If you ask, he will tell...so what’s his soapbox? “Not knowing the business, music business that is. The education of the artist and the DJ. There is so much more than I ever could have imagined. You have to have a want to know approach, not just a need to know.” That’s one reason why DJ Miami carefully orchestrates his circle, “I have to surround myself with those that grind harder than I do. To be honest, I’m the brokest one of my 5. They motivate and push me to do better.” Always strive to be better than you were yesterday.

DJ o R Ro
Let me start by saying, I thought I was reading a typo when I received DJ RoRo’s bio and it stated “Been DJing since I was 9 years old.. I worked at my first club when I was 12, been there for 4 years..” I was like there is no way... Then I made my call. When RoRo answered, I knew it was not a typo. I was on the phone with a 17 year old who will be making history at this rate! Big props to Mama, she had to accompany RoRo to the club every night he worked. Good thing she did, all his hard work is paying off. This young buck started on the tables and still totes them around. Salute! DJ RoRo is a PartyBoy DJ, Campus Kingz DJ, and LAD DJ. When asked what he has noticed to be the biggest benefit since joining the coalitions, he replied, “the name recognition and network.” When RoRo’s not in school, he has a strict schedule. Mondays and Tuesdays he’s recording. Wednesday he’s doing his online radio show ‘Rilla Radio’ from 7-9pm on ‘Out Your League Radio’, Thursdays he’s practicing, Fridays he does a mix show from 9-11pm on 96.9 KISS FM with Tommy The Hacker here in Amarillo. Then he has the residency at the club. Whew! I asked about his social life, he replied, “I’ve lost a lot of friends because of what I love to do. They always tell me it’s dumb and I should hang out with them. But every time I hear this, it motivates me to do more.” His family obviously, is a huge support system for him, not to mention his DJ fam. DJ RoRo proudly claims the “youngest DJ in Texas” in his drops. He did say that he oftens finds people who don’t take his talent seriously and that is a constant challenge. RoRo’s shining moment was his performance during the notorious ‘LaTex’ weekend. Which is when Grambling plays Prairie View in Dallas at the Cotton Bowl. RoRo is a record breaker, he likes to gives artists chances regardless of the packaging. People in this industry gave him one, so ths is how he pays it forward. He will also provide feedback, but make sure your music is mixed and mastered. Otherwise, it’s left out.

DJ Wayne In Dis Thang was introduced to me through one of my DJ coalition Fam. See, it’s all about networking. The young man is head of the Oklahoma chapter of the Campus Kingz DJs. DJing for a lil over a year now, he caught the ear of DJ Frosty, CEO of Campus Kingz. Music has always been in his life, he grew up playing the drums in church. He’s the only one of his siblings that went into music. He was not blessed with that “athletic bone” so he followed his heart.
sume is like this? Keep grinding! Oh, did I mention he is Resident DJ at Vibe on Friday’s. He’s got the club packed, I made a trip to check him out!!! Nothing shy of impressive! DJ Wayne In Dis Thang has grand goals in sight, “I want to eventually become a tour DJ and have a syndicated radio show. Pimp’n already on the air on Power 103.5 with the ‘Privaledge and DJ Wayne In Dis Thang Show.’” ‘Dis DJ is definitely headed in the right direction!
Wayne In Dis Thang is currently a student at Langston University. He will major in broadcasting. He’s got the Greek Life activities on lock. So Campus Kingz is a great fit for him. One of the benefits of college is he gets the opportunity to give back to the community. Anytime a DJ is requested, this is his way of giving back. When asked what makes him stand out as a DJ, he replied,“first, I had to create my brand...me and then I had to create the experience. I want the crowd to leave with something that they tell someone else about.” Learning to read the crowd is critical, “I always try to make people feel the same, turned out!” This is one of his pet peeves, not to mention “’Janky’ promoters that undercut and too many people in the booth.” I shared that a door will help with the too many people, or maybe he could hire a body guard. Since he has the crowd moving “Left, Right” it’s no wonder they flock to him like Fat Pimp. Since joining the Campus Kingz, DJ Wayne In Dis Thang has noticed the respect level increased greatly. “From the artists to fellow DJs, the exclusive records, my vast network, the family and support system have blown be away. It’s much greater than what I expected.” He does have to give credit to Vegas Tagus who has helped lay the basics down. It’s all about paying it forward. DJ Wayne In Dis Thang has had the honor of sharing the stage with the Wale MMG after party, Nelly concert featuring Privledge, NYE Bash with Rocsi from 106 & Park, Chief Keef, Twerk Team featuring K-Stylis,YG, Juicy J, LATEX2K13 and more. S R D Dirty Rotten Skoundrelz
Sitting in the library at Southside and Lamar, I am reviewing Zu Nation’s own Dirty Rotten Skoundrelz bio...I read the first sentence, then they walked in. All I knew was it was a bold, powerful one that had to be shared! “Fuse the aggressive nature of N.W.A, the lyrical ability of Outkast, the southern soul of UGK, the consciousness of Public Enemy, and the raw, uncut energy of Three Six Mafia, and you will have the underground’s greatest hip hop tandem.” The Dirty Rotten Skoundrelz entered the music scene with their debut in 2004. The two went to high school together, Justin F. Kimbell, however that’s not the reason behind the duo. They actually met at a cypher, Jada Kiss was there, everyone else pushed themselves out and they ended up being the last 2 standing. “We were there to rap, not trying to impress anybody.” Who are the 2 that create this dynamic duo? Big Suave aka “The Mayor of Oak Cliff” and Don Claude aka “The Pride of The Projects.” These men share a “deep appreciation of hip hop history and and ridiculously strange sense of humor. Oh, we don’t have much of a filter. We tend to look at ourselves as completely irresponsible, yet publicly well mannered. We tend to be quiet when most people think we should be loud and be outspoken when something just has to be said. We aren’t afraid to say it.” Big Suave “The Mayor of Oak Cliff ” adds the flare, charisma, and quite often comic relief to the Dirty Rotten Skoundrelz conglomerate. He states, “I am the embodiment of what Oak Cliff is. The good, bad, ugly. A mayor is a representative of a geographical area, the right people don’t tell the story. I am the best representation of a product... the history, the music, the culture. It made me a public official. So why not me?” Don Claude, “The Pride of the Projects,” is the working definition of a “rapper’s rapper.” According to Don Claude, “Suave and I have similar styles, but different approaches. Pretty much the same story, different perspective. I can tell the story for those who can’t rap, write, or have the ability to express themselves.” When these guys get together, they have one thing in mind...music! “Other artists should be
more creative and be themselves. We don’t follow trends. We make music with us in mind...we just do music.” The Dirty Rotten Skoundrelz have built their fan base on the internet, but there must be a balance. They both piped up, “you can’t just only use the internet or just only paper the streets. The internet creates that buzz, once it’s started, you have to touch the people, let them know you exist. To reinforce it, follow up. Once just isn’t enough.” Their social media on twitter is handled by each one, if you really want to get to know them as people, give them a follow. You will definitely learn about “hashtag skoundrel life.” Since they joined forces with DJ Kayotik on The Purge 1.5, they don’t see anything standing in the way of growing their brand! The Purge 1.5 is a dressed up version ‘Kayotik Style,’ “it is a mixtape, showing a diverse side of who we are.” The Dirty Rotten Skoundrels also released a hit single, “Jordans Over Dickies” that is soaring. The track is personal to them, so much of themselves is poured into it. It’s been on MTV Jams and has a strong online presence. They feel like they broke through the glass ceiling in Dallas. “People can’t turn a blind eye anymore. We’re not the epitome of a ‘normal rapper’, we are not average. Where we come from, we bring the true essence of Hip Hop. We rap. We rap well. We are also writers. (ghost writer packages are available)” Don’t be surprised, if you run into one of these men helping with a local charity event, food drive, or school function. Their work isn’t always publicized. When they see someone in need, they step in and lend a hand. Mind you, it’s not always about the money. A lot of it is time...they mentor the youth, talk to the community, create their presence. “We have a great conscious and heart, it’s just the grown ups who don’t know any better.” Coming to the end of our interview, given their background, I wanted to know if they had any words of wisdom to pass on to the inspiring artists? “STAY IN SCHOOL, HAVE A BACK-UP PLAN, KNOW HOW TO READ, KNOW THE BUSINESS, BE WELL VERSED AND EXTREMELY WELL ROUNDED!” Dirty Rotten Skoundrelz’s latest project ‘Skoundrel Musik,’ is scheduled for release first quarter of 2014, which will feature the single, “Jordans Over Dickies” featuring the legendary Bun B of UGK. Other upcoming projects include ‘Skoundrel Nation’ and ‘Skoundrel Life.’

I am out in these streets... I hear talent everyday! It’s a mutha-f**kin shame their music falls on deaf ears because of budgets! What happened to supporting your industry... your art? We all need each other to thrive! Support isn’t about just buying a ticket or spending money... support is about the little things. Re-posting a link, re-tweeting, telling a friend about someone or something, hell, even a stranger. If they haven’t heard it, it’s still new to them. You never know who is watching or went by your recommendation that can make a great situation for someone you really “support.” This doesn’t just apply to artists; DJs and producers are included as well. When you are in entertainment, you must have a fan base. Without fans, you’re just an “Average Joe” who has a hobby. Being able to talk-up another artist, DJ, or producer when you fall into one of those elements only makes you look better. When someone hears the positive remarks you are giving, not only do they mention the name of who is being spoken of.... they mention YOU! It’s a win-win! It doesn’t cost you a dime! However, your value is increasing. Word of mouth is some of the best marketing, too bad we, as society, would rather talk sh!t before praise. Nonetheless, it doesn’t go unnoticed. Social media plays a huge role in marketing and promotions, so much that it has created laziness! Yes, the internet is good because it spans your reach, but in order to penetrate a market and create that buzz, there is nothing better than ‘hand-to-hand combat.’ Creating those relation-
ships and reaching the people show that you’re in this for longevity, not just a one-hit-wonder. It’s about learning to create the perfect balance and using the tools available to maximize your potential. So, get up off your a$$ and create your presence. It must start with you...if you lead, others will follow. With all this being said, you gotta spend money to make money. Most artists will spend a good $50,000 before really starting to see a return. Thus the difference between rap hustle and music business. Know what you are getting into before jumping in the bed. We all want to make money. A ‘like’ on your pic of your J’s won’t make you famous nor will it make you rich. Which leads into another great topic... How well or not so well does buying likes, follows, and/or views work? If your numbers don’t match across the board, you’re wasting your money! So what separates well-known artists from those stuck in obscurity? This is one question that often is answered with just a couple of words: RADIO PLAY. Getting your songs spun on the radio is in the best interests of any upand-coming artist because just about every music exec looks at the radio industry as a proven ground for what’s going to stick with consumers and what gets rejected. In fact, most successful labels require the acts they sign to have a certain level of radio success before considering signing the acts to their companies.
One of the toughest challenges for independent musicians is landing contacts within the radio industry that will listen to their request and hopefully play their music. One of the main reasons radio promo is so challenging is because not all stations play music from unsigned and unknown artists. If your gonna spend you’re hard earned money, spend it on studio time and product. Perfect your marketing and distribution campaigns! So when approaching station programmers with request, independent artists often get overwhelmed with the amount of ‘NOs’ they hear and, as a result, get frustrated. Most just quit the process of reaching out altogether.
fan is a fan. Give them a reason to support you. Give them a reason to share your music with their network of friends. The DJs won’t pay you attention if the buzz isn’t there. It all boils down to you are just wasting your time buying fake followers, friends, likes, views or subscribers. The last thing that needs to be mentioned about radio promo is no matter what radio format you decide to explore as options for your promo strategy, it takes an enormous amount of time, energy, and patience to make any real headway. Artists do you know what Neilson views are? Do you know what an R&R report is? Do you know how to read a sales report? How does your report card look? This is part of the business you must know, the business; just like the lyrics your spit. It should be second nature. If you’re getting lots of radio program directors to say no, don’t give up - keep going and going because patience and consistency pay off in the long run. FOLLOW ME @alme214.
A little known secret amongst those with the knowledge is that college radio stations accept, play and most of the time prefer independent music from very obscure bands. Another great aspect of college radio besides them playing independent music is the fact that there are literally thousands of college radio station across the US each with it’s own unique listener-ship and pre- Remember, if I haven’t heard it, it’s still new ferred style of music they like to play. So if you’re to me! an independent act looking for radio promo, college radio is definitely one area that needs to be explored to the fullest. If you have product start creating your buzz! Throw a show, rent a club. Charge $5 and give them a CD. If you can’t make this happen, you don’t exist. Remember, all those views... they just bite you in the ass because they are bought, and so far your sells are at___? A real
