Who can resist those, “lazy, hazy days of summer,” as Nat King Cole once sang. They are filled with endless possibilities and the delightful opportunity of doing absolutely nothing on some of those days. A romp at the beach, fishing off the pier, an afternoon at the zoo, blowing soapy bubbles in the park, a dip in the pool, a great book, backyard dinner with friends—the possibilities are almost endless. Young patients at the Children’s Cancer Hospital at M. D. Anderson Cancer Center know that one summer possibility is camp—Camp Star Trails for younger patients and their siblings and Camp A. O. K. for the teenagers (Anderson’s Older Kids). Like all of the programs funded by the Children’s Art Project, the camps help ease the young patients’ cancer treatment, enliven their summer schedules and enrich their experience growing up with a trip to camp.
