Love spins round and round in the Children’s Cancer Hospital at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. You feel it in the halls, in the lively Pedi Dome, and wherever young patients are. Along with hope, love is an emotion that sustains patients, parents and staff. You may think a hospital is a no nonsense place. Not so at the Children’s Cancer Hospital, where love is generated in many ways. While undergoing treatment for cancer, young patients thrive in a bright, colorful classroom where art classes, school instruction, music therapy and more occur throughout their hospital stays. Inside the pages of this catalog, you will find a vibrant collection of valentine cards and gifts to share with the special people in your life. They are also available through www.childrensart.org or at our boutique in Uptown Park in Houston. Every product purchased spreads a little more love — to your friends and family and right back to the patients at the Children’s Cancer Hospital. Proceeds from the sale of these cards fund programs that benefit patients and their families. Programs funded include: 89 college and graduate school scholarships for current and former patients, an in-hospital classroom, summer camp for patients and their siblings, a rehabilitative ski trip, supportive Child Life specialists, special parties and events, educational field trips and more. Ashley is a delightful nine-year old attending third grade at De Zavala Elementary. Diagnosed with leukemia/lymphoma at age 7, Ashley is now undergoing treatment as an outpatient. Her eyes light up when Dr. Nunez is mentioned. He is “her” doctor! While staying in the hospital last year, she loved to pretend with the medical play equipment and interact with the Child Life team. Her big family surrounds her with love! Three older brothers take first-class-care of their little sister, along with her parents. And the whole family adores their new puppy Fluffy, a white poodle! Cancer is a tough diagnosis, but a big dose of love is the best medicine of all!
