Artist Write up #3 – Natalia Gonzalez
Natalia Gonzalez gave an artist lecture at St. Mary’s College of Maryland on the 13th of March. Gonzalez is an artist from Bolivia who travels very frequently to the cities of Santa Cruz in Bolivia and Pittsburgh in the United States. Gonzalez’s interest lies in the exploration of the body, time, and space. They are complex and ample dimensions that are interrelated with one another. “ Time and space exist in a continuum therefore they cannot exist separately; a contingency that interests me as it relates to corporeality. Corporeality is understood as the dialectical experience of the body lived through the body” as stated in her lecture. Most of the art work Gonzalez had shared during the presentation were video performances, installations, and drawings on paper. She had described that recording leaves traces which almost looks like a drawing which moves from one place to another.
