Sound Current There is a Sound of God

on each level, otherwise known as the Sound Current. The Sound is a very high form of ultimate reality. Once you get into the Soul realm and above, the Light is not seen in exactly the same way as it is in the lower realms. It is impressed on you and heard. It is primarily Sound and secondly Light. Accordingly, on every level of Light, in every plane, in every dimension, there is a keeper of the Sound Current. Appointed by Sat Nam, this is the one who is granted the keys to the Sound Current and who is known as the Mystical Traveler Consciousness. The Traveler has the keys on every realm for the flow of Light and the Sound Current. You can work with the Light, an essence of Spirit, by calling it in, and if you have been practicing (doing s.e.’s [spiritual exercises] and serving), it will come in to work with you. The Sound Current does not necessarily work by your calling on it. With the Sound Current, you have to move your consciousness into it.This doesn’t happen by desire. You cannot wish it so or even imagine it into reality. In fact, there is no imagination involved in this process.

There are different sounds that accompany the different levels. Just because you read that the sound of the Soul level is similar to a haunting flute, this doesn’t mean that you will hear it. You may mock it up with your imagination, and that’s what it will be an imaginative mock-up. Hearing the Sound Current is hearing the Sound Current, and it is not an act of creative imagination. The Sound Current is an audible form of reality on the inner planes. The part inside you that does the spiritual exercises from a spiritual base cannot be deceived or manipulated. You will hear the sounds when you hear them. The information is simply offered so that you can validate the experience when it happens.

Don’t push or judge the quality of your s.e.’s on the basis of whether you hear the sounds, see colors, or have any other experience. You are doing s.e.’s correctly when you do them. The quality improves in relation to your disciplined consistency over a period of time (maybe months, years, decades) and in relation to the quality of loving you express while chanting your tone. There is really no wrong way to do s.e.’s except not to do them. When you have practiced s.e.’s enough so that you do, indeed, Soul travel, reentry into this physical plane of existence is sometimes difficult. (When your consciousness comes back from s.e.’s and Soul traveling, you may hear a loud popping sound. It might sound like knocking or the slamming of a door.) When you open your eyes and physical sights flood in, accompanied by physical level concerns, you might find this level gross and unattractive. Just remind yourself that you are here on this physical level to solve problems in a loving consciousness. In time, you can integrate the spiritual and physical worlds. The experiences you have on the spiritual levels, from the colors to the sounds, can be used as a strengthening frame of reference while dealing on the physical level. A guideline that works for both levels is acceptance. Accept what is going on in the physical without judgment and you will be able to handle things much more successfully than ever before. Similarly in Spirit, accept what occurs and what doesn’t, with no judgment, and that acceptance will contribute to your spiritual progress. There are times when you might have a craving for information about Spirit, from the mental frame of reference. I will share that information, but know it is just that information. The mental level is not Soul. When you experience this information, it

then becomes your next step to the realm above. I’ll share the details of the sounds and colors on the different levels. It is something you need not memorize. Just participate in the process of s.e.’s and service, and take the time during spiritual exercises to chant and then listen. In time, you will hear and see what is to be not necessarily in your desire-pattern time, but in Spirit’s time, which is always perfect. On the astral level, the Sound Current is akin to the whoosh of ocean surf. On the causal, it’s chimes, or tinkling bells, a very delicate sound. In the mental level, it’s like running water or a tumbling brook. In the etheric, it’s a buzzing sound, such as made by a bee or a fly.

There are at least 27 levels above Soul with concomitant sounds. When you get above the first level, the sound is like a cool summer wind blowing through easily swaying trees. Above that level, it sounds as if thousands of violins are playing or angels are singing. It is the beautiful sound that is often described in Greek mythology. The allegories of the Sound of God and the sound that comes from the heavens exist in literature throughout recorded time. When Jesus said that the wind comes where it comes and goes where it goes and that no one knows where it comes and where it goes, he was referring to the Sound of God. (John 3:8) When you get above the third level of Soul, into the inaccessible levels, you hear the sound of HU. Just the HU described in words or reproduced with the HU-man voice. They are inner sounds beyond description on the physical level.

In the Soul, there is a flute-like sound, but it is not an ordinary flute. It is a haunting, almost drawingto-you sound. It’s not tugging because you’ll have no resistance. You will go to it. That is the sound referred to in the Bible: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. That is a sound from the Soul level of God, which exists perennially in each person. To hear only takes awakening to that which comes through the Soul.

J-R:

I am not a guru, so you canâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t have a guru/ student relationship with me. I am a wayshower. I point the way towards the Soul Realm. You travel that path yourself; I do not do it for you. The relationship is not of this realm or level. I do not enter into your physical life or tell you what to do or not to do. I am there to point the way if you need to have a spiritual reference point. I am there to guide and assist you in developing a relationship with the Light and with your Inner Self. And I assist you in developing a relationship with the Sound Current.

What is the Sound Current, and what does initiation have to do with the Sound Current?

J-R:

The Sound Current is the stream of energy emanating from God, and it is on that stream of energy that we can move back to our fuller awareness of God. Initiation provides the link with the Sound Current...and then we follow that back through all the realms, into God.

You reach into Spirit by

building the strength of Spirit through spiritual exercises. And the only way you can have the experience, the transcendental knowledge, is to have a spiritual transport that can move you from this physical level into the spiritual realms. This spiritual transport has three parts: the first is love, the second is devotion, and the third is the Mystical Traveler. You travel by way of the Sound Current, the supreme energy force, which is also known as the Holy Spirit, the Unstruck Melodies of Spirit, or God’s Unspoken Voice. You ride the Sound Current back through the formlessness into the heart of God. When you’re doing spiritual exercises, you hear the Sound and follow it, but if you don’t also have the Light, you may stumble and fall. So you bring in the Light to see better. You also need love because that is the motivation to keep going. So you need the Light and Sound and love. Spiritual exercises are a manifestation of loving, your loving of Spirit and God, and God’s loving of you. When you chant your initiation tone, you are singing the song of loving that has been sung by the saints and sages of all time. It’s a joyful process. Doing spiritual exercises can also bring you the same experiences as those of a mystic; chanting your initiation tone can bring you the realizations that will rip the veil between this mundane world and the experience of the heart of God. As you chant the names of God, as you live from a loving place, and as you maintain those practices no matter what, you find that the Beloved starts appearing inside of you, as you. You find yourself becoming the Promised One. The Beloved lives for you, in you, as you. It’s not designed for this world. As you live within that spiritual form, you may find that the world shifts for you, but it will be more through your perception of it and participation in it rather than from anything outside yourself. @msiaorg

When you are devoted to the Sound and the Light, you are devoted to that consciousness which is the Traveler, you are devoted to yourself, and you are devoted to each other. And when you are working with the Traveler, all things unfold in their right and proper timing. You can assist by loving yourself every step of the way, by doing your spiritual exercises to gain a greater perspective on what you are experiencing, by loving the people around you and treating them with kindness, and by living with integrity and honesty. When you live in the love of the Traveler, it is not necessary to sacrifice the mind, give up the desires, or eliminate the self, because that has already been done. It is over, and now you need only live joyfully and in harmony with your true nature. You can become the spiritual one for whom you have been waiting. All that has been promised to you is here and now. Some people are waiting for a good time sometime in the future, but it can be right here, right now. The good time is present, here and now, because the love is present. What matters, in each and every moment, is that you are loving. Be loving to yourself and to others. When you are doing that in the reality of each moment, all dilemmas will fall into line, and you will begin attuning yourself to the greater love that is the love of the Traveler. The first step is to be loving. My love is always with you. Use it to lift and sustain yourself until you know your own divinity.

The work we do

in the Movement of Spiritual Inner Awareness was founded and established with Jesus Christ as the head in spirit, and it is still that way right now. We don’t necessarily say a lot about that. My point of view is Jesus speaks for himself really well and doesn’t need me or anyone to do that. Yet there is a presence that we work with that we often refer to as the Spirit. What was discussed in the time of Jesus, we’re in that divine presence still partaking and participating as much as we choose, as much as we can handle. We’re in this eternal loving presence and doing this work together. We’re not alone. We’re active, and we’re interactive. There’s a larger aspect to what we’re doing, and you’re absolutely welcome to come closer. That’s my invitation to you --- to come closer to God through your awareness of your divinity. The work we’re doing is like a baptism in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. It works because we

have a willingness to call it forward from the highest source. That’s who we are, and that’s what I consider John-Roger and Jesus have been doing, amongst others. We are those others here and now. So we are in the line of the Travelers --- those of us who are studying in this Movement of Spiritual Inner Awareness. That’s who we are. Even if you just came to MSIA today, I can say that to you because I speak to the nature of the soul. The nature of the soul is fully connected, aligned, and participating in the divine presence. The nature of the soul is saved, meaning your salvation is assured, protected, and held secure. Your soul cannot be in any way messed with in this world. Yet, this world does things to stimulate, amongst other things. Maybe things of this world become irritants now and then. Have you ever had something that was irritating that then become an obvious blessing through your awareness and realization? Yes, of

course you have because that’s what is true. When we accept and cooperate with what is present, then we can understand it’s all a blessing. And it’s a blessing just to be here. Baruch Bashan, which means the blessings already are.

John-Roger & the Mystical Traveler Consciousness Even though John-Roger is not currently with us physically, his presence, his works, his dynamics, his connections and relationships, his passions, dedications, devotions, all these, are still with us. We are gathered in all of that and much more, so J-R’s light, loving and works continue. I’m very grateful for whatever part I’ve been invited to do, and I’m often awe-struck by what it is.

When I first was living with the keys to the Traveler Consciousness, which wasn’t all that long ago but it seems sometimes like it’s an eternity, I would often experience when I would come back into the body as startling. My experience was like a shuddering. I could say that it frightened me. But what it was didn’t really have content. I just had the experience that my body was shuddering. Then there was almost like an “Oh no!” type of experience. I was looking upon the responsibility of carrying the keys. It was a shuddering and awesome in whatever that was. And yet it was mysterious. That may seem strange to you. You may think, “If you’re the Traveler carrying the keys, why would it be mysterious?” I think the mysterious quality of the Mystical Traveler Conscious is one of the reasons John-Roger called it “Mystical,” and why that word comes out first before Traveler Consciousness. Mystical is very descriptive of the Traveler Consciousness. And the Movement of Spiritual Inner Awareness is very descriptive of what we’re doing together. We are all called into this Movement. However you were called, you were called. You were even called here today. Even if you looked at it as an obligation of some sort, it’s really not an obligation. This Movement is functioning in freedom and liberation. So there’s nobody that’s required to be here. I’m not required to be here. I work by invitation. That’s the best way. The first invitation that I look to is in the Spirit, into the source of who we are. That’s our true source. It’s our reality. It’s our living truth. That’s how we’re functioning in this Movement, and we have a lot of help. We have assistance and support. We have friends and relatives, including some of them distant or remote. Some of those who assist us may take on roles that come across as opposition. Yet God is a presence, a consciousness, a reality very personally for each one of us that loves all of Its creation. So there’s no part of creation that God rejects or opposes. One of the things I like to do is to let us come into that presence of one accord, to experience that we’re all in this together. how we function. That’s how we thrive and come into our fulfillment and our hearts’ desires. We come into it because we’re gathered in this presence that loves us all.

Personal Leadership You each have a personal leadership in your life. You have a responsibility of being yourself and being true to yourself as a way of knowing that leadership. You have a truth that you need to abide in as a first leadership, as a primary way of going out into the world. You need to serve yourself first. In MSIA, we say, “Take care of yourself,” which means serve yourself. Make sure you’re in agreement with yourself, that you’re not serving falsely or in some form that is of a nature that is not in your best interest. In MSIA terms we often check things out by asking, “Is that working for you?” To answer that means to pay attention, be aware, and be conscious. Is what you’re doing working? Is it serving? Is what you’re doing in your service on purpose for today? I was introduced to somebody recently who’s brand new to MSIA. She was invited to an event as a way of being introduced to what we are. When I found out that she hadn’t been involved prior to that first event, I invited her to start cleaning up the space where we were standing. Was I kidding? Well, kind of but in some way I meant what I asked. Consider that if you can clean up a space, if you can make it brighter, clearer, richer, more of the nature that serves all, you’re invited. You’re on purpose with your soul’s purpose. I look to service as being of the highest consciousness. It is the highest consciousness, because it serves God and serves God’s purpose. That highest consciousness serves our purpose with God and God’s purpose with us. It puts our purposes together and aligns it so it all integrates. In this wholeness and oneness with God is our purpose. Consider that the purpose in MSIA is to discover, to awaken, and to experience our oneness with God. It’s what we call Soul Transcendence. What is it when we transcend as a soul or we transcend into soul? It is an experience that who

and what God is, who and what our Divine nature is, is present, active and alive. It is an experience that what is above is below and what is below is above, that we are in heaven while on earth. When we start registering that truth, it steps itself down. So in the realization of the form, often something is lost in the translation. It’s not truly lost. It just seems to be missing because often our awareness in some way is missing the presence. When we’re aware of missing the presence of our divine nature, there’s a sense of separation. There’s a sense that something isn’t quite right. We become aware that we are called into a purpose to move into the oneness of God. When we practice this movement of spiritual inner awareness, we strive toward perfection. That’s a blessing. If I strive toward perfection, what I don’t complete, the Christ is lined up and established by God with the purpose to complete it. So that perfection is completed. That’s our work. That’s what we have here in our midst to choose and appreciate. I often say we don’t control this movement of spiritual inner awareness. We don’t have the patent. It’s something that exists in the corners of the world, however many corners there are. That was part of what was issued as a ministry, as in “Go forward into the world.” We are here to serve and take this message to the corners of the world. Let your truth be known. Get your light out from under that bushel. Get it off the shelf. Don’t hide it. Let your little light shine, shine, shine. That’s our work together --- to be the Light. I’m in a way quoting our spiritual head, that “I am the Light.”

Expanding into Oneness So have that willingness to say that too. Declare that truth. Step into that knowing. If you think you don’t measure up, then choose to step up. Choose to expand your awareness in the Light of God.

There’s something beyond this relativity that we’re in, beyond what Einstein brought forward, that’s greater and we know it. So there is no delay; there’s no lag. The speed of God’s light is immediate.”

We’re doing a work that’s expanding into the oneness of God. I know that’s the focus we have in our workshops, classes, and seminars. We focus on our oneness, the one accord, and doing our part to resonate and expand in the Light and Loving of God. That’s the relationship going forward in spirit and progressing in spirit. That relationship is ever-expanding. There is no limit. Whatever limits we run into, the limit comes upon us because we cannot handle it more or less. However that works, that’s a protection. It’s a spiritual protection. It’s a perfect protection. We cannot enter into what we can’t handle. Thank God. Praise God. So if God allows it, there’s a perfection in it. However, there needs to be an invitation. So ask yourself, what do you want to step into in your leadership? What do you want to step into in your service, in your coming forward to help, to make things better? When you feel that calling, that invitation to serve, that’s a sign that you’re in the Presence. We’re in the movement of the spirit so that we make a place, any place, the place we are, this place, better than we found it. That’s a sign, and it can be that we just radiate this loving presence. The loving is in our heart, and every time our heart expands, this light comes forward, goes out and expands. One glimpse of that presence can sustain you into eternity. So even if it seems like a small awareness, go for it. Go for it in how you invoke that presence so that you have no shame. Choose to be unabashed in your way of relating to the Love and the Light of God so that you would do it in the greatest way. Choose to submit yourself to God’s Will and to allow that purpose to work through you directly so that you too can say, “When you’ve seen me you’ve seen God” and that the authority of God is speaking through you. The authority of God is the authority that we’re in worship with here. It is not a physical form, a personality, a name, a position in a chair, what you wear, what you eat, etc. These are not the things that bring forward the oneness. It is the love of it all. But we do have a responsibility, each one of us, to invite it, to invoke it, in all that we do.

There’s a Moment of Peace where John-Roger meets with Mother Teresa. It’s quite a magical moment. J-R was giddy and overflowing in joy with what he was conveying around integrity, which is another word for the oneness --- the integration of all parts. With integrity, all aspects come into the oneness. It’s all flowing and in alignment. “You did it unto me” [Matthew 25:40], Mother Teresa said, and she took J-R’s hand. With each finger she demonstrated, “You did it unto me.” I felt the presence of Jesus the Christ, like a power station of Jesus Christ, in that room at that time. And that presence is in this work here and now. God is doing this. If you say, “When you’ve seen me, you’ve seen the Father” [John 14:9], you are looking through yourself to God. So have that openness, that willingness, that invitation. Look at what you want to create in the world. Understand that you can invoke something that you’ll work with the rest of your life. So consider, what are you going to serve? Who are you going to serve? Jesus said, “When you’ve done it unto the least of them, you’ve done it unto me” [Matthew 25:45]. So there’s always someone to serve. We’re all related. There is no thing in the creation that’s junk. It all deserves love. So don’t even get into asking, “Should I love this one?” You’ll just bring that question onto yourself as a process of self-realization. Do you love yourself? If you’re wondering how you got into a disturbance, then you dropped the love somewhere. Rather than try to go back and figure out where you left the love, just bring it forward here and now. Invoke the love right here in this moment. Choose to love the one who’s next to you. Just have a moment of that. Look at people right now, those who are around you, wherever you get to look around. If there is no one around, then look at whatever is in God’s creation that is before you and love it. Love whatever mechanism is bringing this to you --- a

worthy of God’s love. In our stupidity, we may believe we are not worthy because of something we did or something that happened to us. In our stupidity, we may believe we are not worthy because of something we did or something that happened to us. You might say, “I’m not like that one or that one, and they’re so far superior. So I hold myself back.” That’s stupid thinking. Get in the Light and say, “Here I am, Lord.” We’re in the Light that sees all and knows all. So there’s nothing hidden from the Lord. There is this thing called the occult, which is another word for what’s hidden or mysterious, meaning not all have the eyes to see and the ears to hear. Why is that? Because they’re not ready. And that’s God’s business. So trust God, and don’t hold back your loving. In this Movement, we’re going beyond the earthly pull. So the earth cannot contain our love nor can any of the magnetic bodies in this universe. There’s a wonderful series on the History channel called Universe. It’s a compelling story of all kinds of things, like what’s the sun and what is light and how did the earth get created and how did the universe get created. It goes into the Big Bang Theory. It talks about the black hole that is this thing in the universe that everything is going towards, and then on the other side of it where things are expanding and speeding up past the speed of light. So that exploration is now in the mind of some of the learned ones, the ones who we consider bring us the knowledge in the highest, in the greatest way, that there is substance faster than the speed of light. There’s something beyond this relativity that we’re in, beyond what Einstein brought forward, that’s greater and we know it. So there is no delay; there’s no lag. The speed of God’s light is immediate. There’s a presence who told us, “I am with you unto the end” [Matthew 28:20]. Regardless of how many times we come to an end in this world, “I’m with you. I’m always with you.” Not only that, it’s a good story. It’s a celebration story. We’re going to be done with this world but not in a bad way. So whoever invented “bad” is of a false or an illusionary nature.

Loving it All Let’s just love it all. Let’s forget about whatever we did to one another. That’s who we are. That’s how we come in to one accord. We just forget about it. There’s something about this life in this world that eventually we get to that point where we forget more than we remember. So don’t worry about that. It’s on purpose and also part of the trust is whatever is on purpose for you now is in your awareness and in your presence. Whatever is on purpose for you is here and now in this moment. You don’t need to go anywhere. It’s here. It’s always been here. The love of God is here. The invitation is present for you to continue to prepare a place for the Beloved within you. Being in one accord is being in the anointing of the Spirit as much as we can handle. In that full anointing, there are no differences. There is only love. There is only peace. It’s regardless of whatever has gone before and whatever would come after. It’s knowing eternal love and peace is with and amongst us. We are in the divine presence. We are in the midst of the Holy Spirit. We are gathered in the name of God, the holy name that all the Prophets and all the Travelers have been working through. Be aware of what’s here with us in this divine presence. There’s appreciation and gratitude. I thank you for coming forward in this Movement however you choose to participate and serve. Thank you for what you do in the name of the Lord. God bless you my friends in your anointing.

He was never out of gas.” Michael Feder began working with John-Roger in 1982. He has 2 children, designs and builds homes, surfs, referees soccer, travels avidly and is rarely without a camera… NDH: So, what’s it like working with J-R? Michael Feder: Fun as hell. Everything I saw J-R do had tons of brilliance in it, and everything that goes along with doing great works. And there was always laughter—a mischievous approach to all of it—because it never hurt anybody and it was way more fun to do it that way. If we were going to do some work, for example if we were going to cross the desert or build a fort, then it would go faster and be more fun if we were screwing around with each other and making jokes and making fun of each other while we were doing it. That’s how I felt about it the whole time. But a lot of what took place was really brutal for a lot of people. A lot of it was hard on me. But J-R never lost a sense of having a good time with all of it.

NDH: Brutal in the sense of a lot of work, or difficult work? Michael: No. I always called the job a labor of love. But it’s brutal when what you’re about is so sacred and people try to put that asunder. That’s brutal. And when there are people that you love as dearly as your own children—and in some ways maybe in an even bigger way—and you want them to be loved and protected and safe and to get what they want, and then they don’t, it’s hard to be passive about that. It hurts. And for me, being a person with this mentality of wanting everybody I care about to get exactly what they want and wanting to take care of them, it makes it doubly hard because I rush in to fix things. That’s kind of my M.O. Handyman. Whatever needs taking care of, I’ll take care of it. And some things I couldn’t.

and he’s keeping me here, and if J-R wants me here I’m staying. So I went from a bit defensive to a bit egotistical to a bit pushy to a bit grasshopper-like because I didn’t know what my place was. I just knew that it was with J-R. And then eventually my place became every place. I was involved in just about everything there was. We had phenomenal people around us. I came out of my first Insight training and I was on staff within a couple of weeks. I felt like we had the secret of life, the magical formula to having an amazing existence, and nobody knew about it. It was this little momand-pop organization, doing this little thing, and it was the best thing on earth. I wanted everybody to know about this. I went and told my parents, my sister and my brother and my friends. All I thought was, “How big can we make this? Let’s get this so everybody gets to play, because this is the best, there’s nothing greater than this, and everybody should know about this.” And that was my M.O. for a couple of years. It’s very naive in a way but I haven’t changed my thinking about it much. @msiaorg

NDH: That’s interesting because I have. The first few years I had more excitement, and then after I had more experience with how it works I could see it wasn’t in that person’s karma, or it wasn’t their time, and I toned it down when I presented it to people. But you didn’t? Michael: No, I’m still doing it. And since I’ve been participating again with Insight in the last year, I’ve been sitting in the back of the room going, how great is this, look at that person, look at that person, everybody’s popping like popcorn, and there’s this attitude in the room like we’re all in this together and we’re going to the top of the mountain. I get really excited about it. And I never was un-excited about it. For a while I moved into what you described,

where it’s like if it’s somebody’s time it’s their time, and karma’s karma, and I’ve got to raise my kids and pay the rent. But that other piece where I turn back to it and I’m aware of it again, boy it’s just jammin’, it’s just alive and vibrant and wants to get out and play. The challenges were wanting to do it really well, and making plenty of mistakes, and stepping on lots of people’s toes, and also watching how when MSIA went through its tribulations with the world, people really had to make a decision of whether “you’re for or against,” you know that whole biblical mindset, which I thought was really appropriate. I was like, if you’re not for us then get the hell out. I don’t want to hurt you but you need to get out of the New Day Herald 41

way. And certainly don’t turn around and pick up arms against us, because I don’t think we ever earned that. I don’t think we ever earned becoming the kind of target that we did. And we weren’t alone. There were lots of other organizations outside of MSIA that were under siege too. NDH: What kinds of other things did you learn from J-R by watching him work? Michael: Well, first of all, being around J-R so much, 24/7 over so many years, I got a really good sense, not of how J-R did what he did, but that he was relentless about 42 New Day Herald

doing it. There was this relentlessness about loving, and really wanting the best for everyone. I don’t think most people have any idea of how much effort that took. I never saw that waver, not one time, in the 37 years that I knew him. I never saw him waver about being actively involved in whoever was in front of him in that moment. It was like, I want the best for you right now and if I can be part of contributing to that, I’m going to do that. J-R was rarely about himself. That’s a lot to give up. And it’s a high level to hold. I’ve seen no one else do that. msia.org

From the time I was young, I had an awareness that there was this thing called Spirit, and I always felt that things you can’t see were way more important than anything you could touch or see. I didn’t know what that meant, but J-R demonstrated it to me.

and all I have to do is stay out of the way and keep working. And there’s plenty of work. Do you want to help, Michael? Come on.” That was her attitude. It was like, “I don’t want to waste time with this, there are too many people that need help.”

In the first few months I was working with J-R and we were in an Insight II. There was a guy who had a serious disease like MS or something like that. J-R is working with each person, and we get around to this guy. I’m excited. I want to see what J-R is going to do next, and J-R stops, looks at me, and goes, “It’s your turn.” I’m like, “What?!?” I had no facilitation skills other than being with J-R in rooms watching him or other people work. I didn’t know anything. I said, “What do you mean?” He said, “You can do this.” I said, “I don’t know what to do.” He said, “Just do it.” I look at the guy and I ask a few questions trying to buy time. I get up, walk over to him, touch him a bit, I turn him around, and the guy kind of straightens out. I’m so shocked. I look at J-R and he just nods his head and goes like, “Don’t you get this? It doesn’t matter who it is.” It was such a huge teaching moment that I realized that if I could get out of the way of my own stuff and be present, the Traveler and Spirit are willing to do the work.

And I think J-R’s thing with me was like, if you want to be useful, if you want to be of service, let it work, because in and of yourself you can’t be of service. It was a really powerful lesson. I was a lousy first-time driver. I was all over the road. But I’m better now than I was then.

Staying out of the way and being present are a real art. It takes time to learn. But I was so unaware and so ignorant that J-R took advantage of that and said, “You can do this,” so it would happen. It’s very addicting, too. I love people. I want people to be happy and healthy. The first time we went to see Mother Theresa for the Integrity Awards that we gave out in the 1980’s, we were in Calcutta, this difficult place. I’d never been exposed to the third world like that. I grew up in Beverly Hills. But I sat down, and she took my hand and moved my five fingers one by one, saying, “This…I…do…for…Him.” And her conversation after that was simply along the lines of, “I’m not so special. Yeah, he picks me, but this I’m doing for Christ because that is working through me. I have the great honor to do that, @msiaorg

NDH: What else did you learn from J-R? Michael: Humility. [Laughs.] A lot of humility. I think J-R started working on that on day one when he threw me out of the Insight training room in front of 300 people. Edgar Veytia and I were standing at the back of the room and he said something and I answered him. The next thing I hear is J-R from the front of the room shouting, “What’s so important?” He asks Edgar, “Do you want the lesson or the information?” Edgar goes, “Information.” J-R looks at me and asks the same question, and I’m a contrarian by nature anyway, so I say, “The lesson.” J-R says, “Get out of the room.” My heart starts going and I’m freaking out and I say, “What?” “Get out of the room!” I ask Edgar, “Is he kidding?” and he says, “No, you’d better go.” So I walked out of the room. I started crying thinking oh my God what did I do? I blew my opportunity to be a volunteer. Then a half hour later there’s a break and all these people are filing out of the room, and I’m still sitting there dejected and depressed, and seventy or eighty people must have come up to me saying, “Thank God you did that because I could never have survived it. What a great lesson, thank you for doing it.” Then J-R comes out and says, “We need to talk. Come to my office.” There’s a little office in the area where the offices of Ron and Mary Hulnick (of the University of Santa Monica) are now. It’s

Michael: In my ministerial ordination blessing, there’s a passage in there about being careful of the glamour of this world. It’s something like “don’t let the glamour of this world distract you.” I think I left for a couple of reasons. I was distracted at times. I was also tired. I felt like I’d been fighting off the whole world for several years while J-R and MSIA were under attack. I didn’t sleep or eat, I didn’t do anything but defend the castle. That’s what my job was. I’ve talked to other people, like news photographers, who’ve spent their lives under the threat of imminent death. One of the guys who works for me now is a third generation marine. He’s a was, J-R said, “Look. You are here NDH: So you weren’t living at J-R’s great guy and full of joy, but he and you have a choice to make. spent ten years in Iraq and Iran, house yet? are cool, why can’t we do the work and have relationships?” We started talking about it and he was like, “being celibate and doing the work has always been

the way it’s worked and I don’t think I want to change that.” He had his perspective and I had my perspective and it started me thinking that maybe I want to do something else. I started asking myself, “What do I want more?” And I don’t know that I was really thinking clearly, but I know that was my thinking process. And eventually I just said, “You know, J-R, I’ve gotta go out and take a look around.” It was a really difficult conversation but a really loving conversation between both of us. He said, “Take the car, whatever you need. If you want @msiaorg

some help let me know.” It was that old burgundy Oldsmobile convertible that had been around forever. I took that car when I left, with one bag of my

clothes. And then after a couple of years, everything I had been asking about and wanted was exactly what happened. And I noticed that other staff people started being married and having relationships. People at Prana started living in pairs rather than as individuals. The funny thing was that I left staff but I didn’t really leave. That next ten years I was around MSIA and J-R more than I was around anywhere else. The first thing I did with my first girlfriend and her daughter was to get on a plane to go on PAT IV [the journey to Egypt and

Israel] with J-R and everybody. My heart was still there, and still is, but I wanted to explore and see if there was another way of going at it. It’s certainly not the same, and it took me a long time to figure out how to do both together. The biggest gift in the last few years, that J-R gave back to me well before he passed away, was that I can have everything we had, and also the things that are outside, and it all can work and complement itself. So what I found was that his molding me into somebody who was good at being of service has become the majority of what I do in both parts of my life now. So it’s all together. It’s all the same, whether I’m refereeing kids at soccer games, or working with guys on the street who are homeless, or I’m at an Insight training. There’s absolutely no difference in what I feel and what comes through me. Being in an Insight room is a hell of a lot more fun in some ways, because I’ve got people there who are of like mind, while out in the world I’m on my own on the physical level—but I’m certainly not on my own in terms of the Spirit. But the working and being used part is exactly the same, and I love that that’s what’s happened. New Day Herald 45

If it’s tempered with kindness and care for everybody, then it works really well and it can do amazing things. ” NDH: When you left, did you find an energetic shift inside you? Was it difficult, was it easy?

NDH: How did you change over those ten years with J-R?

Michael: Walking out the door was really hard. Even if it was just the symbolism of it, it was really hard, because I lived like I was always going to be by J-R’s side, to the death. And that mentality never changed even though my body went away. And thank God he and I always had that knowing of each other. We always had each other’s back. From day one that never changed. Being on staff at that time you didn’t have to worry about things you have to worry about out in the world. I didn’t have to worry about making a living, paying the rent or getting the oil changed. From that standpoint, being on staff is pretty freeing. But on the other hand I gave up a pretty serious relationship coming on staff. I was deeply in love and leaving wasn’t easy.

Michael: I sure became a better me. There is no part of me that wasn’t under some kind of fire, or in the fire. I haven’t thought of this in three decades, but J-R said something about a trial by fire. But it wasn’t like “Michael, I’m going to put you through a test now and if you don’t pass the test you’re not on staff.” It was really that you’re going to be in the fire of purification about what this work is and what this energy is, and you’re either going to deal with it or not, and you’re going to allow it to clean you up or you’re not. I certainly didn’t come in as some knowledgeable, understanding, empathetic guy who was gifted at working with people. That wasn’t my skill set at all. I think that’s what got burned away along with a lot of ego and crap. A lot of the glamour and distraction went away.

a great relationship with my mom and dad and my brother and sister. Thankfully my mom and dad pretty much adopted J-R and the rest of staff at that time. They are the first ones that brought J-R over to do Passover, and then that became an MSIA event later on.

Some of it stayed. I used to think of ego as all bad, but it’s not. Ego can be incredibly valuable when you’re trying to accomplish things. If it’s tempered with kindness and care for everybody, then it works really well and it can do amazing things. From the start, J-R started worked with me in terms of the way I communicate. I had always been a voracious reader but J-R was able to get me to work with people in a way where I was talking beyond the words. I learned a lot about responsibility because I became responsible for another human being. And in my heart, within year one I became responsible for all the organizations as well—not from the standpoint of running them but from the standpoint of being a guardian, without even a second thought, so that I was willing to lay down my life so the teachings would go on no matter what. And that never changed. That’s the same today.

I think the balance between the sacrifice of what you give up and what gets taken away in terms of worldly concerns that you don’t have to worry about—that’s about a wash. On staff you have the opportunity to work with Light and the Traveler, and J-R’s unending sense of humor. That’s easy. I could take that any day. When I left I was approached a bunch of times by the LA Times, because they had been doing articles about MSIA. They wanted to pay me and get my story, and I didn’t think any of that really mattered. So I gave them one quote and it’s the same quote I would give today: The work I do with J-R and MSIA is the best work I’ve ever done, and it will probably be the best work I ever do, and that’s all I have to say.

That didn’t happen because I knew it. That happened because J-R showed me the way toward it, or how I could get there if I was willing to keep taking the steps. I had never known that kind of devotion, and I msia.org

had never experienced that kind of fearlessness. I had been searching since the time I was eight years old, and I had put myself in some horrific situations, but none of it prepared me for what this was like. It’s a whole different mindset. And to do it with loving…it’s not like you’re programming a bunch of 18-year-olds to go to war. You’re training someone to open their heart, be honest with themselves, which is not even something you think about in your “normal” world, and you come out the other side and ask if there’s anything left that you can give. Who can I be? Can I be of value? What can I add?

do their best. And a lot of people want to pull their crap back in front of them. I was good at doing that for a while, and I’m still good at it, but I’m getting better at not doing it. And if you look at the people who worked around J-R over the years, and look at where they started, and where they ended up, and the kind of work they went on to do, it’s a hell of a track record. That’s mastery. NDH: You talked about learning about communication with J-R. What kinds of things did you learn?

Michael: J-R said thousands of J-R was brilliant at getting people’s times that listening is the highest crap out of the way so they could form of loving on earth. And I

asked him a lot about it because I was always interested in it. It didn’t immediately make sense to me, but I get it now. USM [the University of Santa Monica] is an example. They do a lot with active listening. And what comes out of the people that get listened to is pretty incredible. That was an important piece that J-R showed me up front— lovingly listening, or listening in a way that people feel they’d been loved, maybe for the first time in their life. That’s a huge thing. So I had to shut my mouth and listen. And open my heart and listen. And then I had to realize that the other piece was also asking, “Is there a loop here?” Is there something that I need to give back, is there information that needs to come out, whether it’s my own information, or information that will flow through me from the higher source. How do I work that piece? That’s the piece that J-R really hammered into me in the first few years. He and I ended up playing with the idea of doing a couple of different communication workshops, but we were always fiddling with the idea of communication in any of the workshops we did. J-R had an amazing vocabulary, and he had a way of listening that was very physical. He had a way of being with people, with a wink or a smile, or sitting side by side talking with someone, where they felt that there was nothing else that existed in the universe except J-R’s heart and his ears and what they had to share. I’d see him do that so many times, with so many different people all over the world,

always with the same reaction. The person had a sense that I’m in this sacred, amazing, beautiful space, that I’m just the right person, perfectly safe, perfectly cared for, and how lucky am I? And by the way tell me that joke again so I can remember how you told that. Or let me hold your hand—because J-R was great to hold hands with. [Long pause, some tears.] Yeah, well, he’s here. [Long pause.] I miss how fun it was to talk with J-R about how crazy this world is. It was always fun, and not one malicious word ever came out of his mouth, towards anyone, ever. In his teachings, in his work, and in his life there was never anything about separation or polarization. It was always collaboration and oneness and family. I know I never laughed as much in the ten years prior or the ten years after as I did in those ten years when I was hanging with J-R every day. We never stopped laughing.

I’ve been designing and building houses now for 25 years. I love it. And most of my clients are really a joy to work for. But the thing that’s really a joy about it is that my crews are like my family. We have a blast. They say anything they want to me, I come to the job and they give me a hard time about what I’m wearing. They know that they’re safe, and if they screw up I’m going to tell them. If they cheat, they’re gone. But for the most part they self-regulate. I love going to my job sites because the guys there are having a good time. And because they’re having a good time the work is really good. My clients all say, “Wow, your guys are so cool. I like having them around and I don’t worry that they’re going to steal something or break something. They’re just great guys, how did you get them?” And I go, “They get each other.” I haven’t gone out and hired anyone in nearly twenty years. J-R was always having a good time. I’m not saying that his work was easy or fun, because what he did—and what I saw him put up with and go through day in and day out—was painful and hard and took every bit of what he was able to bring. But he never did it saying, “Oh God I’m having a bad day.” There was always a piece in there that was like, “and that’s OK.” He had a lot of bad days, but there was never that piece that says, [gritting teeth] “and it’s not OK, damn it.” NDH: Did you ever find it hard to stay in your body when you were around him? That’s what I found.

NDH: How did you get any work done?

Michael: I think I was too dense for a while. I was so excited about everything and so curious about it all. Michael: There’s a story about how they built the There was just so much going on, that wasn’t an issue. pyramids. When I would end up out of my body was later in the day. Before I went to sleep I’d turn on a seminar or listen to the music of Michael Sun and Edgar Veytia. That’s when I’d go out flying. More recently it happens to me when I’m surfing, out on the water. One time, about a year after I left staff, J-R was visiting me at a house I had on the beach in northern Baja. I knew J-R liked to surf when he was younger, but he stopped as soon as he started doing his spiritual work. I asked him if he wanted to come out surfing with me. He said, “No, but you know what? Just take me out there with you.” And I was like, “Oh we can do that?” And he said yeah. I remember so clearly paddling out, calling in the Light, and asking for J-R to join me. And I’ve been doing that for 25 years.

I had an amazing experience last year. I got invited to referee a 16-year-old boys’ game, with the warning that this is the game you don’t want to do. It was some big deal and I didn’t know why. NDH: What’s your favorite J-R joke? Michael: A million things come to mind. J-R was a great jokester and he was always telling jokes, and he loved hearing jokes. He told me this one that’s the most memorable for me. Last year one of the ex staff guys wanted to have this dinner with everybody who had been on J-R’s personal staff. It was me, John Morton, Jsu Garcia, Mark Harradine, Erik Raleigh. We had a great time. We each brought our favorite J-R food. It was a really sweet evening. I told this story, and none of them had ever heard it. What shocked me was that none of us had ever heard the jokes and stories that the others told. So I don’t know how many freakin’ stories J-R had, but however many he had it was enough that guys that were with him for decades didn’t even know the same stories that somebody else knew. Anyway, when J-R was really little, in Utah coal mining country where there was coal dust everywhere, J-R’s dad Parley had this car that always had to be washed. One of Roger’s earliest chores was to clean the family car. His dad was really meticulous about how he wanted it done. One of the things he did was to get white gas and put a little in the hubcap, and use that to detail the car. They had this little dog that was always chasing Roger and nipping at him while he was trying to work. So one day they’re out there, and Parley’s watching while Roger’s working and the dog is running around yapping. All 50 New Day Herald

of a sudden the dog starts drinking the gas out of the hubcap. And he starts running around really fast and just keels over and lays there. NDH: Did the dog die? Michael: No, he just ran out of gas. I’ve heard J-R tell that story at events with very important people. Sometimes people in the Movement would invite J-R to these places, and these people would look at J-R as an oddity. It was like if Kubla Khan was in town and it would be really cool because they could tell their friends about it the next day. I didn’t really like J-R being seen as an oddity like that. But within five minutes it was like, “How do you know that about me? What was that you said? Let me tell you about my brother because you maybe you could help me with that.” It didn’t matter who it was or how famous they were. They started with one mindset and within a few minutes that was gone, and they were enamored and were under that spell of fun and mischief, and his incredible ability to work with people. I’ve never seen anybody ever work with human beings the way J-R did every day. I think the PAT IV’s, (the trips to Egypt and Israel) and trips to South America and Nigeria were probably the most indelible experiences of J-R’s abilities that were so off-the-charts. People in alleys or huts, or wherever, were just drawn to J-R, no matter where we were. I msia.org

was the one who was saying no. I was often saying come on, J-R, that’s enough. J-R never said that. I never heard J-R say, “I’m done, I don’t want to do this anymore.” He’d say he wanted to get off the planet, but even that was with a wink and a smile. I never saw J-R slow down until he was physically unable, and I don’t think it really stopped then. I think it just stopped being apparent. Seminar days were always kind of the same, no matter where we were. We’d drive around, get something to eat. A lot of the time I’d be driving and J-R’s body would be there but he wasn’t there. It was this sort of peaceful, rambling, distracted walk towards the seminar. It was a day of doing things that were easy. We might get up late, have a late breakfast, get the car and look around, maybe look at some site in a particular town that was supposed to be interesting. Or he’d say, “There’s somewhere over there that I have to go. I don’t know what it is but I have to go look at it.” He’d play around with the waitress or the waiter. It didn’t matter who it was, he was always playing with everybody. And then a few hours before the seminar I’d be wondering what he’s going to wear—this jacket, that tie. And then J-R would lay down, he’d just split for twenty minutes or two hours. And I’d get him up, saying, “Come on, we have to leave, here are your clothes, I have to get you there on time.” It was really interesting. Most of the time there was no overt preparation, but I’d watch him having this inner thing going on. But then sometimes he would study almost like for a test. He might get out the Bible and spend an afternoon writing notes and looking at passages or he might get somebody else’s book or his own seminar notes. It was like he’d been given a job and he had to figure it out, not knowing what was the best way to do it, so he was going to mess around until he got there. We went out to breakfast once and the waitress says, “Don’t look under the table, it hasn’t been cleaned.” So of course J-R looks under the table. That night at the seminar the first thing he starts with is, “Wherever you’re told not to look, what do you do?” And that became the basis of the seminar. He did that time and time again. These random little things would happen, and what he would bring out of it and share was astounding. @msiaorg

One night he was out of his body for a long time and he said, “I’m going to take a shower and get ready.” He’s in the bathroom for a few minutes and I hear this huge crash. I run in there and J-R’s laying there and the shower doors are knocked off, there’s blood everywhere, and he’s got a compound fracture of his leg. There’s a bone sticking out of his shin. I pick him up like a baby and put him on the bed and say I’m going to call the hospital. He says, “No, don’t, you can’t do that.” I say, “What’s going on?” He says, “I got attacked, calm down, relax, breathe.” He’s calming me down.” I ask, “What can I do?” He says, “Just hold, stay steady, it’s going to be OK.” I think we had two hours before we had to be at the seminar. I covered him up in bed and had my hand on his shoulder. I just sat by the bed with him and he went out again. About an hour later he comes back and he goes, “OK well we’d better get going.” I say, “Come on, you can’t go anywhere.” And I pulled the blanket off his leg and it was still a mess—there was blood and bruising—but the bones were back inside of his leg. He said, “I can’t really walk on it well, you’ve got to help me, but we’re going to go do the seminar and it will be all right, and that’s that.” It was just another one of those mini-miracles that J-R took in stride like it wasn’t a

big deal, but it was a big deal. I grew up in a pretty sophisticated household with very intelligent parents where money wasn’t an issue, but I never realized how limited my thinking, my faith and beliefs were until I started working with J-R. J-R just decided one day that we were going to go to the Philippines and check out the psychic surgeons. We were going to do a little documentary. We did a lot of research and found out that a lot of people believe they’re real, and a lot of people think they’re fakes doing sleight-of-hand.

He liked to drive, and he was great at it. He taught me a lot about spatial relationships, and also things he had learned from his dad. Like how to look down to the right if someone’s coming at you with high beams on so you’re not blinded. Lots of little things that J-R would do, he would do them with such grace. Like the way that anybody who was in front of J-R was treated as a beautiful human being—even people that were so in his face and so filled with hate and anger and judgment.

she just started laughing. She changed instantly from being desolated with fear to, “Ooooohhhh, give me that, let me hold that.” Her son came to me the next day and asked, “What happened?” I told him and he said, “Well, I don’t know who that guy is but tell him that I love him.” And J-R did that kind of thing 10,000 times. And I want to pass it on. If you look at the teachings at the core of all the organizations, in their distilled and pure sense, they’re exactly what J-R did. And that’s all that matters, that’s all that mattered to him, and that’s all that should matter to us. NDH: I remember when I was shopping around for a spiritual teacher. The first time I saw J-R, I said that this is the only guy who’s talking from the experience. The others were talking about the experience. And J-R was so in the experience that I thought this guy could just lapse into gibberish at any time. @msiaorg

Michael: And he did sometimes. NDH: And his eyes looked like the eyes of someone at the top of a long ski slope. They looked like they were saying, “OK, I don’t know where this is going to take me, but here we go….” Michael: I have a friend who has a different guru and we were talking about darshan the other day. And I kept remembering all these experiences of J-R’s incredible smile and that glory that would come in just a split second, and such a connection. I was really fortunate that I had a camera in my hand for a lot of the first five or six years. J-R and I got along really well, we loved and liked each other a lot, and I think that shows up in my photographs. I think most people that loved J-R experienced that part of him, but they didn’t get to capture it so easily. I was really fortunate, and I’m glad I got to be on that end of it. New Day Herald 53

J-R loved any kind of joke that would mess with people and get them to drop all pretense. He was brilliant at that. He had a way with people that made them willingly want to drop all pretense and just be with that person, be with that Light, be with that joy. NDH: What’s amazing to me is that through all these things that you’re talking about, I always have a sense that I could do that. I don’t have a sense of it being above me, which is quite unusual because you’re talking about extraordinary things. But I don’t feel like it’s out of my reach, because it has an ordinariness at the same time. Part of me goes, “I know what that is.” Michael: That right there, what you’re saying, is probably J-R’s greatest feat. I think that’s how he was able to give so much and yet in the giving J-R was always overflowing. He was never out of gas. I’ve

been with him in front of thousands of people— meetings, events, counselings, etc.—and never in one of those did J-R ever put himself above another person. If anything, J-R was self-deprecating and incredibly humble. But when he spoke, every syllable and every word had truth in it. Not truth against or above, just truth that’s as close as you can ever be to another person. There’s no better or worse, no separation. I’m still trying to get that one. I saw a quote the other day that said, “Once you have loved enough of yourself, you’ll only be able to see love in others.” After all those years with J-R I still don’t have that thing wired. I still get pissed off driving. I don’t like that part of myself. So maybe I just have to love myself more. Inside me, nothing is as important as that. That’s what J-R was all about, and that’s what his teachings are all about. I honor J-R and I want to keep doing the work.

John-Roger on the Sound Current Q:

Much has recently been written about the “men’s movement,”’ men not being adequately Initiated into manhood in western society, and the loss men feel because of It. Does the Sound Current initiation through MSIA fill this gap? Am I more of an adult after being initiated by the Traveler?

J-R:

Why is the Sound Current not mentioned in the Bible?

J-R:

The Sound Current is mentioned in the Bible. It is spoken of as the Word made flesh. You will also see it referred to as “the wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and wither it goeth” (John 3:8). If you read your Bible in awareness, you will be surprised how many references there are to the Sound Current.

The initiation into the Sound Current that I work with has very little to do with this physical level. It has to do with Soul transcendence. Societal initiation rites were a form of assisting men into a greater awareness of themselves, though the focus of this awareness usually had to do with their contribution to and role in their family and society. The focus of the Sound Current initiation is moving toward a greater awareness of the true self, or the Soul.

John-Roger on the Sound Current Q:

Are the keys to initiation into the Sound Current and the keys to the Traveler Consciousness different? Can someone hold one and not the other?

J-R:

The keys to initiation into the Sound Current are one of the keys that the Traveler holds. There are many more. Only a Traveler holds the keys to Sound Current initiation. Others may give a person words or syllables to chant, but a person is not really a Sound Current initiate unless they are initiated by someone who holds the keys.

Q: What is the difference between the Traveler and the Light? J-R: The Traveler is a wayshower, a mechanism that works with people to take them into the Soul

realm. The Light is the positive energy coming from Spirit. (There’s also the magnetic light, which works out of the lower realms of Spirit, but I don’t think that’s what you were asking about.) The Traveler channels the Light and rides on the Sound Current and can teach you to do the same. And remember that the Traveler is inside of you.

So here comes the angel of life and life

eternal and life everlasting. When you--as an initiate--are freed by the angel of life, you’re moved over into the Sound Current. The Sound Current is all-pervasive, and you can also be in it more directly. It’s like this: the air in this room is all-pervasive, but if you want to smell the roses, they’re right here, and so you have to get in the area where you can smell them; then you’re drawn in. It’s like that with the Sound Current, and all you have to do is just listen. You can hear it, follow it, and go into the spheres of heavenly glory. It’s wonderful to see people who are doing this while they’re alive— doing s.e.’s and having experiences of that heavenly glory.

Why is there a two-year period of time before someone can be considered for initiation into MSIA?

J-R:

ln those two years that you have contact with MSIA, you are going to be working off so much karma that you’re going to feel you’ve been turned every way but loose. You may feel that you’re going to get off the planet, but not with wings. It’s “nose to the grindstone, shoulder to the wheel, ear to the ground.” But even if things get difficult, there is a great joy underlying it all--the joy that just sings inside of you because you have a knowledge that cannot be proven, that you’re going home. Once you are connected to the sound current, the only way you would not make it is if you would turn from the Traveler. If you do not turn from the Mystical Traveler, he will not turn from you; he’ll stay with you until you are established in soul consciousness. Prior to initiation, you can both turn and choose another way. He’s not bound and you’re not bound. Sound Current In my life , the sound current is always there, patiently waiting for me to call its name, to take a moment out of my precious day and spend it with the Beloved, to kneel at the altar of the Word. I bring it closer like an image coming into focus. It does not hesitate, as it is only me that has moved the space between us. I can cover my ears and it is still there - it is not of this world. I dive into its warm, milky stillness - it’s like riding in a boat on a soft lake in the early morning when the wind is non-existent and there is only peace. I persist to dive further into it, bring it closer, and I direct my intention for it to fill and envelop my entire body. I am aware that I am both the sound and the body, the creator and the creation. Sometimes I move it through my body like waves to release blocks. It can be a dance where I am both the leader and the follower. Other times I’ll keep my focus on my third eye and crown and the intensity and “closeness” of the sound increases, as if it were written on my forehead. Its infinite honey pours into me purifying all in its path.

Sometimes I grow impatient thinking that it should work faster or that I must have a lot of stuff to clear! What’s my rush? To get back to the world when I am entertaining the Beloved? Sometimes I take for granted what I’m used to, like a typical human being. At other times, in each of my tears you can hear the word “thank you” as I am truly humbled.

forth the intention of God. I turn in from the world, remembering where I left off and dive back into the Great Abyss. But like the best of friends, it’s like I’ve never left in the first place. Perhaps I haven’t.

When I write music, I pick up an instrument and play some chords. I’ll start hearing a melody in my head. Even when I’m listening to a produced track, I’ll start singing I remember hearing J-R sharing quickly as I hear a melody. I don’t something in the vein of, “...once have to think about it consciously. you hear the sound, you never for- It comes naturally and fast. It’s one get it.” I never have. when I wrote “You’re Always Here”. It was so powerful, I had tears coming from my eyes as I wrote the song. Songs (and any art form) can be both great clearings and great expressions of Spirit into the world. I am grateful when the Spirit is especially palpable in a specific song that I write or listen to, and I love that such can be true for different songs and different people. In my experience, there are infinite ways the Sound can work through the form.

a getting out of the way and letting the Spirit come through. When I’m recording, sometimes I consciously intend to bring forward as much loving and sound of God as I can, so as I create, the energy goes into the music. It’s nice to be more conscious of the Spirit and consciously participating with the Spirit, and I remember J-R saying that’s one of the reasons we do S.E.’s—to be aware of what is happening on the higher levels.

When I play live, there are many times when I go out of my body, especially in certain songs. Sometimes it’s like my aura/energy is expanding to encompass everybody there. I may go so far out that I start missing notes on the piano or I have trouble singing a few lyrics. One memory I have of Spirit being especially present was when I sang “Messiah” at an MSIA Conference Minister’s Meeting with the Traveler’s band. It felt like a baptism in the sound, and the energy was healing me at the same time as it was going to everyone else. I also remember singing at a dance club in another country once and feeling the Light energy coming off my hand into the audience as I moved it. That was an amazing experience because I could see that Spirit is going to do what it does, no matter what kind of environment I’m in or what kind of music I’m playing…in spite of the form. Even when I’m not perfect, Spirit is. It does it perfectly, and I don’t have to. I can let go of wanting to do things perfectly or be perfect. In one of the J-R books I remember reading something like, “the greatest use of the physical body is to be a conduit of the Spirit/Divine energy.”

I used to think I didn’t want to do pop music, that I just wanted to just write music that’s more overtly connected to Spirit. But I realized that’s limiting what Spirit wants to do, because it can come through any kind of music, any form. It can do whatever it wants! Why can’t a song can even be about something silly and ridiculous and still have Spirit involved? And if it can get people dancing, even better.

One of my greatest intentions for my music, actually for my life, is to be that kind of transport mechanism. It’s an allowing,

I’m so grateful that I’m doing music, because in my experience you can’t get much closer to the Sound Current on this level. In the future, I can see myself doing more composing, even without lyrics. The words can be an attempt to get at the truth, but the music is the pure essence. I experience that often when I listen to beautiful classical music by different composers. It can be very close to those higher realms.

Sound Current. It starts out “when God spoke,” and that speaking is the Sound Current that we ride on back into God’s heart, into God’s intelligence. And when God batted his eyes, the lightning flashed and light appeared upon the world. And where God walked, there were great caverns and great valleys. And when he saw the sin of mankind, the tears he cried produced all the water of this world. He knew one day, as in all things, man in his soulic movement—–not man as a male, but man as a human being—–would stand forward and speak God’s name in truth and honesty in the spirit of his heart. And that which is the good that God has promised to all of us––the spiritual promise––would be delivered by, for and through us to all planes of existence. Those times are upon us. That’s why we are not teaching how to do things in materiality. We’re teaching you the immortality--that God is the God of all things, and that he does love. I have experienced that. And I’ve seen Him love others, and I have experienced that. And He’s not a God that lies, but He’s a God that lives the truth of the creation of Himself.Many people have asked about the Light, and MSIA has quite a few publications and discourses that teach about the Light. We’ve given it the acronym, Living In God’s Holy Thoughts. And we’ve said that Light is a part of the essence of spirituality; it’s a part that can be recognized and 70 New Day Herald

related to readily because it can be seen. It’s both an inner quality and an outer quality. The inner quality is more of the Spiritual Light and the outer quality is more of the Magnetic Light. It’s good to keep those two things separated, since they are different qualities. We say everyone is the Light and this is very true. I think we all know that there are different degrees of Light as well as different colors of Light; so to say that someone is not the Light would certainly be an unawareness pattern. The Sound or the tone of the Current flows out of the heart of God is referred to as the Sound Current, and if we were to use an acronym for that, we might say -- Speaking Of Ultimates Now Divine--that’s the Sound Current. The Sound is a much different quality than the- Light. We see the Light when we are working in the lower realms of Light--on the physical, astral, causal, mental and etheric realms--and it’s very beautiful. When you reach the Soul Realm, you are impressed with the Light, and that is the Sound Current. On every level of Light, in every plane, in every dimension there is a keeper of the Sound Current. This is the One appointed by Sat Nam, out of the Sach Khand (this is in the higher realms of Light), who is given the keys to the Sound Current, and who is referred to as the Mystical Traveler. The Mystical Traveler, through the Preceptor Consciousness, has the keys on every realm for the flow of the Light and for the Sound Current. On any realm, including the physical, you must find that One who has the connection to the Sound Current if you msia.org

are to be connected to the sound that is inside of you and to the Sound that pervades all existences. You might feel that the Light is enough and wonder why the Sound is important. When you are working with the Mystical Traveler Conscious-ness, through MSIA, you will be traveling the inner realms of consciousness in Soul Consciousness. We are not involved in astral body projection or in traveling in the causal body or the mental body or the etheric body. In the higher realms, the only vehicle that we are involved with is Soul Consciousness, which is the one that you want to work with if you’re going to work in the line of Masters of the Sound Current. When you have illuminated yourself, through the help of the Mystical Traveler Consciousness and the forces of Light that work with It or under It, then you can illuminate your way in the inner worlds of your own universe and in the outer universe; so that wherever you go, you won’t stumble or fall, according to the orthodox doctrine of man’s fall. But you won’t really move rapidly on these levels until you are very familiar with the territory. You work more with the Light in the lower realms of consciousness. The Light is a tremendous force of energy and you must gradually learn to work with it, to attune to it, and to use its power. This is why we say, “Don’t become a spiritual glutton and read every book on the market or listen to every tape of every seminar in two weeks.” It will turn against you because you won’t be able to handle that force of energy. These things come gradually. After you’ve learned to traverse the astral realm in Soul Consciousness, you will move into the causal realm and learn to handle that. And then you will move into the next realm and so on. One of the keys is that the higher you get, the more refined the quality of Light and Sound becomes; but in that refinement, it is more secure: In other words (this may sound like a little double talk), the less solid it becomes, the more lasting it is. On this physical level, the quality of Light and Sound is extremely transient. The physical body is sustained here for an average of sixty or seventy years. If you live to be eighty or ninety years old, you’re

considered an old ;person and maybe fortunate to have lived so long or cursed to have lived so long, depending upon the type of life that you have had. Most people want to live a long time on this level even if they seem to be miserable because this is the realm with which they are most familiar. The Light is a nice key; you can work with the Light and call in the Light and bring the Light into yourself, and it will come in to work with you. The Sound Current doesn’t necessarily work that way. If you want that, you have to move your consciousness to it. You don’t wish it to yourself or imagine it to yourself or anything else like that. The biggest “storyteller” in the group doesn’t have it by telling the story that he has it. You have it or you don’t, and there’s no imagination involved in it. This is a very high form of ultimate reality. Quite a while ago, I was talking to a lady who sometimes seems to come across as a self-proclaimed Messiah. In my own quiet way, I had been teaching her about Soul Travel for about a year, and the last time I visited with her, she was telling me about how high she’d gone in the Soul Realm and how she had reached into God-consciousness. I said, “My, what does it look like there?” She said, “You tell me.” I said, “I don’t have adequate words.“ She said, “Then I’ll just tell you the best I can. The Light there is fantastic. And there are the most beautiful things there.” I couldn’t really argue with what she said so I said, “That sounds pretty familiar. I wouldn’t want to say that’s not so. However, could you tell m e anything that’s really noticeable about the Soul Realm?” And she went on to repeat pretty much what she had already said. And then she asked, “Did I answer your question for you?” I said, “Yes, you did. You have answered my question.” She had answered it because she couldn’t. When you get into the Soul Realm and above, the noticeable thing is the Sound. The Light is not only seen; it is heard. It’s Sound.

At the end of a presentation

I gave recently on symbols of the Sound Current in Shakespeare, someone asked, “How does this benefit me?” I suggested she watch Al Pacino’s version of The Merchant of Venice and listen inwardly to what comes forward. This is a play that brings the Sound Current to life as God did Adam. As well as its mystical allusions it also reminds us what is available to us on earth when we choose grace versus the law. Perhaps being open to the Sound enables us more fully to forgive. It gives us height, distance, perspective, empathy. The inner experience of grace requires no belief system—only faith enough to give peace a chance. One way to understand Shakespeare’s symbolism is to see how he dramatizes the term “the waters” from Genesis interchangeably with “the Word” from John’s Gospel. Basically, it appears that Shakespeare is fully aware that the Sound Current, the Word, the waters, and the wind from heaven are all one and the same. If you were to read the following two quotes together, it almost seems like Shakespeare and J-R are discussing the music of the spheres over a cup of sack in the highest realms of spirit. “Be not afeared, the Isle is full of noises, sounds, and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not: sometimes a thousand twangling instruments will hum about mine ears” —Caliban, The Tempest “…that sound might be called the ten thousand violins…the most heavenly music you can hope to reach…” —John-Roger, The Sound Current.

Overthought-Underthought

Polarities

The philosopher and poet Gerard Manley Hopkins draws a distinction between a poet’s “overthought” or explicit meaning, and his “underthought” or the meaning given by the progression of images and metaphors. But, he says, it is the “underthought” that is the real poetic meaning.

Shakespeare characterises Adam-Eve as the malefemale polarities of the image of God or soul, represented in the plays as, say, Romeo-Juliet, Lear-Cordelia, Ferdinand-Miranda, Bassanio-Portia, etc.

A simple paradigm shift makes Shakespeare’s “underthought” pop into view. Instead of seeing his plays as about kings, dukes, and generals, deposing, usurping and slaying each other in the “outer world”, if we simply shift perceptions to see them as metaphors of the conflicts and battles of our “inner world,” Shakespeare’s real poetic (and spiritual) meaning becomes crystal clear. Shakespeare is giving us his enlightened view of the key aspects of the scriptures beginning with Genesis, all the way through to Revelation. Basically, as extraordinary as it may sound, his plays afford different views on what seems to be the deposing of the soul of mankind by Lucifer, our resurrection through the Christ, total forgiveness and ascension of all at the end of time. Listen within for Spirit to tell you about the underthoughts here. “Hell and Night must bring this monstrous birth to the world’s light.” —Iago, Othello (Shakespeare’s Genesis) “O for a muse of fire, that would ascend the brightest heaven of invention” —Henry V, Chorus (Shakespeare’s Gospel) To fully appreciate this gift, we must also apply the same paradigm shift to Genesis in the Bible. Clearly, this is what he’s doing. Instead of seeing the ancient biblical characters as “outer world” people, he employs the polarities of God-Satan, Adam-Eve, Cain-Abel to represent the archetypes of human consciousness of our “inner worlds.” This paradigm reveals his “underthought” and thus the core motivations of his entire cast of characters.

“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.” —Genesis 1: 27 He characterises Cain-Abel as the two sides of the good-evil, right-wrong duality that comprises the dual false-selves of the human consciousness. Represented as, say, Falstaff-Hal, Iago-Othello, ShylockAntonio, etc. “But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.” —Genesis 2:17 But eat of it we did and the child born of the union of God and Satan was called Cain-Abel.

Sound Current Symbolism Before sharing a more detailed example of how he wondrously weaves his stories about the evolution of our souls out of biblical themes, I want to bring in some of the key biblical symbolism he uses to express the Sound Current. With verse, it’s important not to just translate the words, but to catch the spirit of it and let the understanding wash through. Having said that, as I understand it, J-R has often talked about how “The Word” in John’s Gospel refers to the sound and name of God—the Sound Current. What I’ve realized is that in Genesis it is “the waters” that is used to represent the same thing—The Word. It’s tricky at first, but look for the deeper meaning in these two passages from Genesis. See “the waters” not as “water” but as the Word or Sound Current and it makes a whole different level of sense—especially in the Noah’s Ark allegory!

“And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.” —Genesis 1:2

“And the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us.”

How might you craft a compelling drama bringing to life the essence of the meaning of these inscrutable lines of scripture? First imagine the very setting “And the waters prevailed, and were increased greatly of the play itself—Venice. has cause to despise Antonio even more than Antonio has to despise him. Shylock, sensing an opportunity to use the law to avenge the years of insult, degradation, and phlegm, agrees to the loan—on one condition: that if Antonio defaults on the repayment, he, Shylock, is entitled by legally binding bond to carve a pound of flesh from any part of Antonio’s

body he so desires. Antonio seems prepared to lay down his life for his friend—but he has absolute confidence in the return of his ships with his merchandise within two months with his pound of flesh safe... so he gives his word to Shylock and thereby enters a legally binding contract. Antonio’s word is now made flesh. And great was the fall of it. Of course it all goes horribly wrong for Antonio. It would have been a dull play otherwise. Enter now the parable of the wise and foolish men who build their house upon rocks or sands. “Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. "And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand. “And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.” —Matthew 7:24-27 In the ministerial seminar Who are the False Prophets and Teachers J-R explains the symbolism of this parable. “These symbolically mean the Holy Spirit... the Holy Spirit came and beat upon the house and it fell not...rock is referred to as the Christ...if I stay in the Christ, in the exampleship of our Lord Jesus Christ...”

This is the very symbolism Shakespeare uses for the tempests throughout. Antonio was a foolish man. He not only did he give his word without due diligence, but he put his faith in the vicissitudes of nature. Shylock even warns him of his risk, but he ignores him. See how Shylock foreshadows the tempest that will cause Antonio’s fall—and alludes to the challenge of the Spirit. “But ships are but boards, sailors but men: there be land-rats and water-rats, waterthieves and land-thieves, I mean pirates, and then there is the peril of waters, winds and rocks.” And sure enough a tempest causes Antonio’s ships to founder on the rocks. His precious cargo is lost. He is broke. He cannot pay the debt. Shylock now wants his bond. His pound of flesh. Antonio has to grovel. He pleads for his life. He is playing the Abel archetype. The good guy. He is the one we root for. He is the apparent victim. He looks like the hero, the main protagonist—but he’s not really good. He’s not only a fool, but a bigot, an antiSemite. Shylock plays Cain, the counterpoint. He simply cannot understand the concept of mercy or forgiveness. He wants only revenge. He wants Antonio’s death. He wants his bond. He demands his pound of flesh. By the time this goes to trial, Bassanio has now married Portia and returned a wealthy man. He offers to repay the loan ten times over to save his friend’s life. But Shylock doesn’t want the money. He wants his pound of flesh. He craves the law. He yearns for revenge. And the law seems to say he will get it.

Enter another verse from John, 1:17: “For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.” Enter Portia, cross-dressed as a young man, a doctor of law, with the wisdom of Solomon in her heart. She is the “soul archetype.” As the soul, she is not here to judge but to soar above the dilemma like a seagull and see things just as they are. She hears the pleas and decides, “The Jew must be merciful.” (Shakespeare is using “Jew” not in a derogatory way, but as the archetype who follows the law of “an eye for an eye,” which is something we all have wired in.) Quite in character, the Jew retorts, “On what compulsion, must I? Tell me that.” And tell him she does: she offers him a choice—to choose the law of an eye-foran-eye, the law of karma—or to chose mercy, and forgiveness, the grace of God, the soul within us all. How do we know this? In one of his most moving speeches, Shakespeare via Portia tells us: “The quality of mercy is not strain’d, it droppeth as the gentle rain from heaven upon the place beneath. It is twice blest: It blesseth him that gives and him that takes...it is an attribute to God himself: and earthly power doth then show likest God’s when mercy seasons justice...” Shylock, however, is not moved. He demands the law. He wants revenge. He wants justice. Portia warns him, “That in the course of justice none of us should see salvation.” But the Cain-self, Shylock, is lost to his soul. “My deeds upon my head! I crave the law, the penalty and forfeit of my bond.”

What befalls Shylock is inevitable It would have been a dull play had it not. As do we all when we feel we cannot forgive, he chooses the law. He demands his bond. He demands his right to his bond and his right to the judgment of law. And as he strops his razor to carve his pound of flesh, Portia halts him and begs him consider the true nature of justice, “For, as thou urgest justice, be assur’d thou shalt have justice, more than thou desir’st.” Having committed himself to the law, he is now required by that same law to exact said exact pound of flesh. That’s exactly one pound, no more, no less...and on pain of forfeiture of all his goods and land, may not one drop of blood be spilled. Realising he is thwarted, Shylock now agrees to take the earlier offer of thrice times the bond. But it’s too late. He has committed himself to choosing the law. And all choices have consequences. Enter another verse, this time from Matthew 5, 18: “For verily I say unto you, till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.” (Jot and tittle are the smallest possible things one can imagine.) The same spiritual principle in Portia’s solemn words sounds like, “Therefore prepare thee to cut off the flesh. Shed thou no blood, nor cut thou less nor more than a just pound—be it so much as makes it light or heavy in the substance, or the division of the twentieth part of one poor scruple; nay, if the scale do turn but in the estimation of a hair (shy of a lock) thou diest, and all thy goods are confiscate.”

As it does for all of us when we refuse to offer mercy, our judgement comes right back upon our heads. Shylock knows the demands of the law are impossible to fulfill. Despite being right and justified in terms of the letter of the law, through mercilessness he’s lost everything. His revenge and his bond are gone. He tries to wriggle out of the court. But Portia stops him and informs him the law (that he so craved) is now going to take another bite out his flesh. He’s now found guilty of attempted murder and thus according to the law of Venice he insisted upon using, half his fortune goes to Antonio, the other half to the state, and his very life rests upon the mercy of the presiding Duke. Ultimately, his life is spared but he’s left penniless. His daughter has also eloped taking all his hoard of gold. He has nothing left for his pains—nothing except his precious law, his insatiable craving for revenge and justice, and, oh yes —his new religion!

This is Antonio’s friend Lorenzo courting Shylock’s daughter Jessica, while entreating us all to awaken to the sweet song of the soul and let it draw us home to God. “How sweet the moonlight sleeps upon this bank! Here will we sit and let the sounds of music creep in our ears. Soft stillness and the night become the touches of sweet harmony. Sit, Jessica. Look how the floor of heaven is thick inlaid with patens of bright gold. There’s not the smallest orb which thou behold’st but in his motion like an angel sings, still choiring to the young-eyed cherubins. "Such harmony is in immortal souls, but whilst this muddy vesture of decay doth grossly close it in, we cannot hear it. Come ho, and wake Diana with a hymn! With sweetest touches pierce your mistress’ ear, and draw her home with music.”

Antonio, true to form as the Abel, gets his revenge by saving Shylock’s immortal soul. He insists Shylock renounce his Jewish faith and become a Christian—the worst punishment possible for a broken man who has already lost everything he holds dear. The key lesson for me is found in one of Shakespeare’s cunningly crafted names: Portia, as the soul archetype. Under grace if we do our portion the Christ will fulfill the balance of that which is required by the law. Shakespeare doesn’t stop there with his teachings, but I must. I want to end on a thrilling passage of Sound Current poetry that certainly implies new information for me: that when Jesus restored our rightful kingdom and our passage into Spirit, did he also unseal our

John-Roger on the Sound Current Here's a schematic of how things are in the Spirit world. First, though, I want to say that all this is not precise information because it’s spiritual, and so I can’t tell it to you precisely. But I’m hoping I can tell it to you enough where you can get it in your own consciousness.

The Mystical Traveler is actually on both sides, the positive and the negative. The Mystical Traveler embraces all of it, so we can’t sit here and cuss or judge anyone. We could say that, in a sense of the word, Lucifer has his Holy Spirit, and so do Christ and God have their Holy Spirit. The big difference is that the Holy Spirit under God has both Light and Sound, while the Kal Power only has Light, no Sound. We in MSIA learn more by listening to the Sound Current, and the others learn more by looking only at the Light. Those who are attuned to the Light are going to follow the negative power, the Kal Power. The two sides are exact duplicates. If they both walked in the door, you probably would not know which was which. And no matter what one did, the other one would do it precisely the same way. So, how do we distinguish between them? The biggest and most outstanding difference is that the positive is the Beloved. Also, the Kal Power side does not have something else that we do have on the positive side, and that is the choice to turn from either side. God allows you the choice to turn from either one. The Kal Power does not want you to have the choice. So if you’ve chosen the negative side, you’ve chosen it, and what comes with that choice is a long incarnation pattern. 80 New Day Herald

People under the Kal Power think that they’re the only ones that can do Sound Current initiations, so they’ll try to give initiations. Will the initiation take? Yes. Will it hold? No. In s.e.’s or at any other time, if beings come in, some people are concerned that they might be from the negative side. Here’s what you can do: call in the Traveler Consciousness and challenge the being with love. I’d say to it, “Come within my heart and be with the Beloved.” A negative being might try to get in, but the Soul power and the Traveler Consciousness would just take it and move it out. If it is of the positive side, the being can come in, and it is safe for you because it is of the Beloved. We challenge all negativities, all Light, all Sound to be in the Beloved. The initiates follow the Mystical Traveler, and the Traveler is going to be easy to follow; it’s the Beloved. The Sound Current is also on both sides—positive and negative—and you always challenge what you hear, also. You should always challenge it with love, with the Beloved. The devil isn’t the Beloved. It won’t “fess up” to being in love with anybody. Most of you who have done your spiritual exercises enough (whatever “enough” means) will immediately pick up the difference between something of the positive and something of the negative. If it’s negative, you can just sort of ignore it. I’ve found that the thing Lucifer and Satan dislike most is to be ignored. If a person who is under the positive side is being ignored, they may slip over here to the negative side and feel like saying, “You dirty, rotten so-and-so. Who do you think you are anyway?” After they finish feeling all that, they move back over to the positive side. When you start to feel less than loving towards your spouse, your boss, your children, or anyone else, my advice is to go look in the mirror and see who’s looking back, who is doing all that. In personal relationships, act with love, with the Beloved. For example, if it were my wife, I would turn to her, and instead of being angry with her, I would touch her with love and say, “I love you.” The Beloved and the loving are the same. If you’re in the loving, that’s of the Beloved. @msiaorg

has been growing fast, with over 6,000 new graduates in the past year. Not since the early 1980’s has there been more of a demand, with seminars and workshops filling to capacity worldwide. On Sunday night, February 28, the Founders Insight I completed in Santa Monica with 216 graduates. Shanti Correa, an independent producer of commercials, music videos, TV shows, documentaries and features, was present at that graduation as one of the twenty assistants who supported the participants through their seminar. O ften in my life I’ve come across great teachings and great teachers. Some shared messages that carried me forward and reminded me that real strength actually resides in being vulnerable. The MSIA Ministry The MSIA ministry is for initiates of the Traveler who are called inwardly to serve the spirit of their hearts. Service may be in any form, from volunteering for the Church to assisting people in need or organizations that serve those people, and anything in between. The only requirement is that the ministry is active and done regularly. MSIA ministers may perform services, like marriages, that clergy of other denominations are authorized to do as long as they comply with the laws of the locality in which they serve. Initiation Students in MSIA have an opportunity to be initiated through the Mystical Traveler Consciousness into the Sound Current, the audible stream of energy that comes from the heart of God. The levels of initiation in MSIA correspond to levels of consciousness both within and outside each person: astral (relating to the imagination), causal (relating to the emotions), mental (relating to the mind), etheric (paralleling the unconscious), and Soul (relating to who we truly are). There are also initiations above the Soul level. The astral initiation happens in the â&#x20AC;&#x153;night travelâ&#x20AC;? (dream state) after a person has in some way come in contact with the Mystical Traveler; it is not anchored physically at that time, and the person may do no more with it in their lifetime. The next initiation is the causal, which can generally take place (be anchored) after two years of study with the Soul Awareness Discourses. (The astral initiation is anchored at the same time as the causal initiation.) Successive initiations are mental, etheric, and Soul. If you are just starting the Soul Awareness Discourses, Discourse #1 explains initiation into the Sound Current. You may choose to study the Discourses with the intention of being initiated or simply read them as information. This is up to you. If you do choose to study toward initiation, you need to write a letter as soon as you have decided and then email (or mail) it to the Traveler, saying that you are doing this. If you write this letter, the Traveler works with you more closely, and you may notice a greater spiritual awareness in your consciousness as this inner work goes on. After two years of study with the Discourses and if you have written and sent your intention letter to the Traveler, you can apply for causal initiation, generally when you have completed Discourse 24. The Traveler will look into your request, and you may be offered the opportunity for initiation. For astral/causal, mental, etheric, and Soul initiations, the person meets with an initiator and is given an initiation â&#x20AC;&#x153;toneâ&#x20AC;? (the name of God for each realm that applies to the tone), which the initiate chants inwardly during spiritual exercises. These initiation tones are charged with spiritual energy by the Traveler Consciousness for each person individually, and the Traveler assists the student in clearing enough karma on one level to be initiated into the next level. For the levels of initiation above the Soul level, no initiation tone is given physically.
