When people ask, “J-R, what is the Insight seminar about?” I say, “It’s really hard to tell you because it’s about you. It’s about what you do and what you don’t do. It’s about how you do it and how you don’t do it.”

the

Sound Part 3

by John-Roger, dss This is the Last of a three-part article from a booklet published in 1972.

Every place

that an MSIA seminar is being played, there are teachers, masters, sadhus, sages and rishis bringing their people in to listen, because a temple of Light and Sound is established at that point. Many people from around the world attend those seminars in a higher consciousness while their physical body sleeps. They may say, “Oh, I was in a seminar on the other side and I saw all these people.” They weren’t on the other side; they were back here on the physical listening to a seminar in an-

other place on the planet. And it may seem very real to them because it was real. The seminars they attend in the inner realms are also very real. You can listen to the Sound Current physically, but you don’t hear it with the physical ear. You hear it with the inner attunement. Sometimes, as you are listening to the Sound Current, you may find yourself wanting to put your fingers in your ears to block out the physical sounds. Maybe the sound of your heater becomes a distraction to you. If it does, put some earplugs or some cotton in and see if that will

block it out. But, because you have been so conditioned by everything around you on this physical level, you may plug up your ears and close your eyes and then, in your mind, sing the last song you heard on the radio or the last commercial you heard on TV. In other words, the mind is so full of static that to break through it we try to pick out something to hold to, to pick one thing and focus on that. If you can do this, you’ll have broken away from the static of the lower disturbances.

doesn’t even have to hold to stir the individual. Some people, when they receive an initiation, undergo a tremendous metamorphosis within their own beingness. With others, it’s a more gradual process. And other people may say, “I didn’t really feel too much at that time.” Some people even forget what their sound is; and all that says is that, even though they felt they were ready on one level to receive their tone, they certainly weren’t ready on the inner level. But, when they are ready and have kept plugging along, that tone will reconnect itself to them because it was connected. I’ve had people come back three or four months later and say, “I have my sound back again, and it’s really doing something. But can you tell me why I lost it?” And the answer is, “You didn’t lose it. You just weren’t quite ready for it.” Keep in mind that you may still have difficulties after you have received the second initiation. Until you receive the fifth initiation, you are not in the Soul Realm consciously. It doesn’t matter what kind of game you want to play in your head, you’re not there. And you’re going to be working your own levels of consciousness through all of the lower dimensions. If you get yourself caught

in a universe other than the one you’re presently in, you may find yourself going to that other universe to work out your karma there. You might want to pray to the Father that you have a long life on this level so you can get through your karma this time, or you may get to come back and listen again. Most of us in the Movement have learned to see the Spiritual Law rather clearly. We see the Light and we may say, “I don’t necessarily care to stay here, but if I have to, it’s okay because I can make this level work for me, and I can go through it having success.” Success may not be fourteen yachts and thirty townhouses and five Cadillacs. It means that the physical world does not become a karmic distraction and cause you to enter into all the patterns of desire that earn you a ticket back here. It does mean that you can move your body through this level and, at the same time, live in the higher level. The Eastern philosophy has called it Nirvana or Samadhi. We use simpler words like “joy” and “ecstasy” and “bliss” and “nameless realities.” I don’t feel that I have to be able to label everything for you. Labels are not important and it matters very little to me whether you believe me or not. It’s just not going to change the realities.

yond description--complete oneness, total freedom, sheer ecstasy--the words can’t say it. They don’t even come close. When we have made the commitment to each other spiritually through an initiation into these higher realities, we go on.

When people come into the Movement, they may try out a lot of these ideas to see if the Mystical Traveler really can appear and do these things, and they may play all sorts of funny games. It’s interesting that if you come in on the level of deceit, you get deceit returned to you. You’re going to get your fill of deceit until you stop creating it. The Mystical Traveler Consciousness just reflects back to you what you put out. You can get pretty darned disgusted with putting out negativity until, at some moment, you say, “I really do want truth,” and at that moment, you can start having truth. If you have your habits of negativity going for you, the patterns of deceit and doubt and despair, it can be a long and arduous path. I can give you nothing on this level. But, in the spiritual consciousness, you already have everything. “Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and all things will be added to you;” but once you get to the Kingdom of God, you don’t care about all the other things. You just don’t care. If anyone tried I was talking to one of the initiates who had to give those material things to you, you’d an experience of going up with the Mystisay, “Those are a burden. I don’t want cal Traveler into the Soul Realm and past them. I have these other things.” You have that into the Ocean of Divine Love and Mer- to live in the world, you have to make cy. When she came back, she said, “I don’t ends meet, you have to keep the rent and know how on earth you can live on this the light bill paid, and that means you level after seeing all that beauty.” It goes be- must work on this level; but you can still

maintain the goal of Soul Consciousness and be continually lifting and directing yourself into that awareness. If you connect to the Sound Current and practice the Sound Current, then you are more open to receive the inner teachings, and the inner teachings become more clear and precise for you. Part of the difficulty is that your mind has been playing games on you for such a long time that you don’t know what’s coming in from outside and what’s going on inside, particularly if your storyteller is very busy playing games with you. Some people become panicked and ask, “What is it? What’s the illusion? What’s the game?” There are all sorts of games. The point of view on this is an eternal one, and I’ll tell it to you again: What difference does it make? If the illusion works for you, use it. If the “game” works for you, use it. When it no longer works for you, move beyond it and go on to the next thing, whether it is truth or another illusion. That’s where it is. People ask, “Does the Inner Master, the Mystical Traveler, working in this capacity, sometimes sound just like me speaking to me, or will he look like a friend?” The answer is “either,” because he uses any vehicle of expression that you can work with, and some of you have no way of knowing how he relates to you. It becomes a process of your working to trust yourself. I’ll repeat it again on this physical level: If you will practice the spiritual exercises you will be automatically disciplining yourself and gaining spiritual freedom at the same time. Doing spiritual exercises is much like writing a book. To write something you have to put the seat of the pants on the seat of the

chair and get a pencil and paper and then start putting marks on the paper. To do spiritual exercises, you have to sit down and do them. It’s like a man who prayed and prayed for a new car; he stayed in his home and prayed and prayed and prayed. Then he called me and asked, “How come I didn’t get the new car?” I said, “Because they can’t drive it into your home.” He thought, “Cute!” But you do have to put yourself in the position to receive those things that you are bringing forward. To receive the Sound Current you must put yourself in the position to receive it. Working with the Sound Current is a matter of individual experimentation. What works for John-Roger may not work for you. You may have to modify it for your level of beingness, your level of consciousness. Don’t be afraid to do that. There is nothing to fear. I think a lot of people are afraid they’re going to be successful and then they’ll have to stop blaming other people for their failures. As you become aware of your responsibilities, the buck passing stops. At that point you have to say, “I did it. I’m responsible for it. I’ll handle it. All the time that I was blaming my spouse for my failure, and now I find out that he (or she) wasn’t even close to helping me fail. I was doing it all myself. In fact, I didn’t even give him (or her) a chance to help.” The key to working with the Sound Current is PRACTICE, putting yourself in the position to receive it. Do you have to sit with your legs crossed with your hands open? No, but you have to take the time to practice. How long? As an idea, thirty minutes. If you have put in thirty minutes

of practicing the Sound Current, of doing any of the spiritual exercises we use in MSIA (the candle meditation, the water meditation, So-Hawng, the creative imagination, the inner calm, the HU’s, your own individual tone), and still nothing seems to be happening with you, go do something else. Don’t worry about it, just go do other things, like physical things, and then later you can go back and practice the spiritual exercises for another thirty minutes. There is no magic wand. A lot of books have been saying, “For one thin dime or two fat nickels, control your friends and get a raise in pay.” This sort of thing works for the authors and it works for the publishing companies. They make all sorts of money. So if you are an author or a publisher, you may find out that these books work for you. But, in the meantime, you have to put forth your effort to increase your gains. People say, “If God is God, why do I have to do it?” You have to do it because God is God. If He does it for you, there’s no need for you. God needs you as much as you need Him because you’re His vehicle for divine expression.

18 New Day Herald

When you were very young, you learned your times tables—7 x 8 is 56 and 7 x 9 is 63, etc. But did you ever learn what 15 x 15 was? Or 32 x 49? No, because they only taught up to 12 x 12. And then they taught you how to apply the theory to all the other variations. You found out that 13 x 24 still fit the same pattern. And 15 x 1 fit the pattern, too. But you repeated the basic times tables many, many times before you got a chance to make an application of them. But when the time for application came, you said, “Ah!I remember that. I’ve heard that before. I’ve said it many times. That’s what it is. It works.” And you had a success. Practicing the Sound Current isn’t much different. It’s just that you’re repeating the same thing over and over. Some people say, “That bores me. I just sit and chant the tones for ten or fifteen minutes. I sit there and nothing goes on. I get bored.” All right, after a half hour, go do something else. Hang up your clothes; wash the dishes; get the physical world off your back so it won’t distract you when you are taking time out for you and your relationship to God and the Spirit. If you have to make a phone call, don’t wait until after the exercises, because while you’re doing the spiritual exercises you’re going to have that phone call pressing on some level of your awareness; and it will distract you. You may not know it consciously, but in the levels of the unconscious, you will know it. And you have to have all of your levels working together to have success.

“W

hen you

have the Light and the Sound— the rod and the staff—in your heart, you have God close to you all of the time, and you never walk in shadows.”

The biggest block in doing spiritual exercises will be your lower self, your Basic Self. Its force still is the Magnetic Light. It’s job is to keep the body together and functioning here in this plane, and it tends to resist the spiritual flow of the Holy Spirit. It may make you think you’re seeing things and doing things that you are not. There was a great Indian Master who so wanted to see the goddess of Earth that he projected a representation of that consciousness out from his own unconscious, moved it forward, and then observed it, and said, “Eureka. I have had a spiritual contact. I am divine.” And he preached this “illumination” to his followers, until quite a while later when he did have a “true” spiritual illumination. And he said, “What I told you before wasn’t a true experience. That was out of me. But I didn’t know any better.” But, at that time, he had been convinced, and his spiritual teacher had allowed him to learn in this way. When he finally did learn, he was also given the qualifications of discerning the Spirit, which is no easy trick. It’s very difficult. Many people like to take other people’s inventory, and they take it right out of their own level. It becomes so fascinating to watch someone put down someone else; all you have to do is turn around and mention one word that explains the whole action, and that one word is “projection.” So many people project themselves out

onto that other person and read their own image that is being reflected back to them. That image is projected out of their own unconscious. They say, “Oh, no, I’m not like that or I would know.” Really? If they knew that much they would know where that other person really was and that they had no right to take their inventory. It is important to know and to recognize these patterns if you’re going to play those games in those levels of consciousness. If you’re not, then it’s absolutely unimportant because you’re not in that level, you’re not in that place, you’re not doing those things. You’re just not there. And once you do establish this consciousness of Light and Sound, you will no longer be in the consciousness of games. When you have the Light and the Sound—the rod and the staff—in your heart, you have God close to you all of the time, and you never walk in shadows. When you walk in the Light, you can still walk in shadows. When you’re walking with the Sound, there is no such thing. You can live continually in the Sound Current. You are right now. You live continually in the Light. You are right now. But let’s make this a more specialized idea. Can you live in the Spiritual Light all the time? The answer is “No.” You live mostly in the electromagnetic light of the lower realms. You’re living there all the time. To live in the Spiritual Light takes a tremendous

type of evolution inside of you. My physical body doesn’t live in the Spiritual Light all of the time. That would burn my body; the physical body could not hold the energy patterns of living in the Spiritual Light all of the time. But we do live in the Magnetic Light all of the time. You can move yourself into the Soul Consciousness and live continually in that, and that lives continually in the Spiritual Light. So, in the sense of moving your consciousness past the physical structure into the Soul level, you can live in the Spiritual Light all of the time. But you cannot do this in the physical consciousness of the physical body. Can you live continually in the Sound Current? Again, not in the physical. But within the consciousness of the Soul, you do live continually in the Sound Current. To live free we live in the Light; we live in the Sound; we live in the NOW. We practice the Sound, we recognize the Light, and we travel with the Mystical Traveler. We work off karma in the other realms. This karma is being resolved and dissolved rapidly. If you want to dissolve karma in the physical level, live NOW. Don’t live yesterday, which is only a reference point. And don’t live tomorrow. If something bothers you, work it out NOW. Right NOW, you clear it. A misunderstanding? You say, “Look, I think there’s a misunderstanding. I hope I didn’t give you a misunderstanding.” Part of our level of responsibility on this planet is to screen what we hear and to screen what we see so that we don’t allow an adverse effect

to come into us. And part of the responsibility of everyone in the Movement of Spiritual Inner Awareness is to consciously screen all of the information that John-Roger gives you in seminars, in discourses, in private—wherever-—and to test it and try it. If you don’t, you’re not acting too wisely. And if you do test it and try it, you’re going to find out that it does work and just how it works. If you believe it without working it, you’re being less than wise. And lest you become dull, become wise and knowledgeable by screening the information with your wisdom and by working it to gain the knowledge. And you’ll have spiritual freedom—not only spiritual freedom, but you’ll be free in Spirit in the physical. You cannot be free physically in the physical body; that’s a bondage that’s here. But you can be free in it. You can sit on a garbage dump and eat your lunch and create your own paradise within your own levels of consciousness. The physical environment won’t bother you. You’ll know exactly where you are and what you’re doing and what’s going on, but it will be in such a proper perspective inside of your consciousness that you’ll say, “I’m living free.” May the LIGHT of God and the SOUND of God become yours.

on the Blessings? What is your

attitude towards your spiritual progress? Maybe there’s an opportunity here to improve it. If something is working for you regardless of what that applies to, unless it stops working, it’s a good idea to keep that up. So look at what are you doing. Do you need assistance of some sort? Sometimes that involves others. Sometimes it involves what you are doing and also what you are not doing. That could work both ways. We all know pain and suffering. Suffering is an experience that’s more of “In the eye of the beholder.” Pain is more or less universal. We all know what pain is because it hurts. I relate to pain as a messenger. So in a way, pain is innocent. It’s just doing its job. Pain lets you know that something is bothering you. One of the ways I like to think of who we are in the Movement of Spiritual Inner Awareness is we are those who check it out. So when you have something bothering you, it’s important to check it out. That’s one of the ways that you’ll liberate the messenger.

@msiaorg

If the message is delivered such that you receive the message in full, then the messenger can be dismissed. That’s another way of saying the pain can go because it’s done its job. Often it’s related to something that needs your attention. So part of checking it out is following it inside to the message that is there for your learning, growth and upliftment. Sometimes we can do something that helps take away pain, like analgesics or pain-relievers. There are also other ways where you can distract yourself so that what you’re looking at and focusing upon is not the pain. Sometimes that’s really what’s up for you – to do something to change your focus. My mom often said, “It’s always something.” For a long time, I wondered what she was saying. Early on, I figured that usually when she was saying that, it was something about me personally. Like I was not quite satisfied or I was not quite right. Later on I realized it wasn’t so much just about me. It was more a statement of reality, at least in this world.

New Day Herald 27

There is always something we’re going to be carrying because that’s the price of admission into this world. We carry a karmic load until we don’t have one, and then we’re out of here. Even if we do still have one, sometimes we’ll be out of here and with that we’ll be back, because that’s the nature of how this world serves. It serves by giving us the opportunity to work through and complete whatever is the karma. Sometimes we lose sight that the law of karma, the law of cause and effect, is actually in our favor. It can be a balancing action, but it can also be an opportunity to learn and grow. So it’s a progressing action. You can do it laughing, crying, or in pain or suffering. Maybe you can do

it relatively pain-free. How would that work, to get free of pain? By choosing to be free with the pain. Everybody has that option because we have a consciousness that’s not attached to the pain. Tuning in to that consciousness may take some ability and practice. We can learn how to deal with the pain in such a way that it’s not in our way of perceiving it as painful because we change in how we relate to the pain. Does that work in terms of if the messenger (the pain) is still standing by? What if we’ve done all kinds of things to distract or numb our self from the pain? Can we increase our ability to withstand the pain?

“When pain

becomes chronic or intensifies, those are hints there is more for you to attend to for awareness.”

28 New Day Herald

msia.org

If the messenger is still there, then I would say that’s a hint. You haven’t really translated the message such that you are free of the messenger. Consider whether there is something you’re not attending to that is calling to your attention for upliftment, learning and growth. So when pain becomes chronic or intensifies, those are hints there is more for you to attend to for awareness. Awareness reveals responsibility. Looking into the causes of pain can be curative. Make good choices with your awareness. Sometimes people use awareness to avoid or deny. That doesn’t work very well. That’s when the pain may tend to increase or intensify its message. The pain may be saying, “You need to pay attention to this. If you don’t, then I’ll persist and I’ll tend to increase.” So there would be more and more responsibility to attend to what you need to do. The reality of the world is that there’s going to be something in the negative. Pain is one of those things that just kind of lets us know we’re in the world. This world has some pain in it. We’ve all run into pain in some way. Pain is an ordinary part of being in the world. You may not register pain up to certain point. If you have difficulty enjoying or appreciating your life, then it has become something that is calling for you to pay attention. Clearing the pain is important for your health and well-being. One of the ways to be triumphant in this world is to survive and to endure. That is a sign that you’re handling the world. The longer you’re here, the more experiences you acquire that are valuable to your learning and growth. In other words, you can be thankful, which is a key for well-being. It lightens things up to be grateful and express your gratitude.

Learning from the Past In MSIA, we are not a regressive movement. We’re not trying to get you in touch with your past. Our approach is more that the past is gone. It is done. We are done with it, so let’s go. Let’s get up. Let’s move. Let’s use where we are and what we are and take advantage of all of whatever is present. So we really don’t spend much time looking into the past because it’s not necessary. But we can use the understanding of it. You can change the way you regard your past and your upbringing. You can look at it and consider that you must have had those experiences in some way because they are serving you. Is it okay if we go through winter to get to spring? Sometimes that’s how it works. It’s working in cycles. So you can go through difficult times and ask, “Why do I have to go through it again?” Just

consider, it will be spring again. If you understand that life has cycles, and cycles bring about things that happen in timing or a pattern, then it’s not a judgment or an indictment that you’re not living correctly. It’s just that’s how cycles work and then understanding, “Here it comes again.” If you understand how that works, you’ll be prepared ideally for when it does come. We all have some version of these cycles. There are those who study these cycles, like biorhythms, numerology, astrology, etcetera. There’s a variety of those in play that we’re all subject to. Being in awareness of these cycles is valuable. You can look at you what are you aware of regarding your past, even your past existence or past life, to see if something showed up that’s valuable for your learning. It could show up in a nightmare or where you have a dream and you’re in another time and then you realize something about that experience. It may be that what you realized is

“There’s

a variety of [cycles] in play that we’re all subject to. Being in awareness of these cycles is valuable.”

that you missed an experience and wished it had occurred, or not occurred, in that way. You may judge, “Oh, the good days are gone.” Or maybe you realize, “I’m really glad I’m not in that now, but I’m still affected by it.” Consider that once is enough. Even if you say, “It’s so fresh in my awareness,” even though the repository is still here, you can use it as a sort of tabula rasa where you start over with a new memory field. Some of that comes into what you were born into, such as family karma. Some of that can be about holding on to the judgment, the bitterness, including self-judgment. Consider that a referee comes in and says, “That’s enough. No more. You don’t need to figure it out.” That’s good. Some things are past understanding, because there’s an understanding that surpasses understanding. You can just go to that understanding because you don’t personally need to understand. It works because it’s a spiritual law. There’s understanding that somehow God has good in it all the time, every time. It’s hard to get our consciousness around that when we consider something on the order of a murder, mayhem, torturing, etcetera. So how would we get over that? In this world, we have some things to heal, the causes of those things, which are still in process. There’s still something like a misunderstanding. You can look at the facts or try to study those times psychologically, and then try to find out how could people who seemed rather ordinary do such things. It’s not about that, and it’s not about understanding it. It’s about understanding that something came through in a very negative disturbing way, and now we bless it. Blessing whatever has happened is a way to respond with understanding. It may not be easy with whatever you’re dealing with personally. Maybe you have the toughest case. Maybe not. It doesn’t matter. You have what you have. It’s still important to stay open so you are choosing to be a vessel for blessing.

in anyone’s existence where there’s not an opening to see the blessing, the greater good, because that’s how light and life gets in. It comes through an opening. It comes through a dynamic that you’re chosen. Not because you’re something wretched or despicable, but because you’re something good and your life is already blessed. So to be able to breathe, to have another breath, is confirmation that your life is good. You are adored of God. You might say, “Then why am I having such challenging circumstances to realize that I’m adored of God?” This world is not your home but one part of it. It’s not going to be over in this world. This world is not it. There is a passage. There’s going to be a transformation. It’s a glorious transformation. In preparation of that, it’s good to stay open. Stay in trust and faith that your life is about overcoming. It’s a triumph. It’s a celebration. Why does it have to be a rough road to get there? It just seems like it is at times. Nobody is exempt. Everybody has moments where they feel down or off. At those times, we can reach out in compassion to one another. If there’s nobody else around, then reach inside for the compassion always present in your heart of hearts.

“Stay in trust and faith that your life is about overcoming. It’s a triumph. It’s a celebration.”

Intention for Peace and Joy With initiation, we are moving toward liberation. Ambition is part of what works as an intention. Carry your intention into the day so the pictures you have, what you put the Light on, what you want more or less of, you hold that to yourself. When you’re in the line at a checkout stand or you’re at a traffic light or somebody cuts you off on the highway, carry your intention into these places and interactions. Carry what it is you want to experience for the day, what you want to share and put out as your contribution to living a blessed life. If you keep doing what you want in line with your intention, then your intention will become manifest. We often have too many rules about what makes us happy instead of really looking at what makes us happy. It’s not about somebody else’s idea but your own idea of what truly makes you happy, what makes you peaceful or joyful. Be conscious of whatever blessing is present and becoming more manifest. If you’re in a lapse, those moments when you feel irritable or something is irritating to you, then pick up your attitude. Remember, you are human. Look at what’s bothering you. It’s either from the inside, where what you’re doing or expressing is bothering you, or you are allowing something to come in from the outside. That’s a moment to adjust, to move your awareness to the peace and joy within. Is it valuable to come together and envision or participate in activities where others are expressing peace or expressing joy? Of course, that’s valuable. But I find it’s even more of a contribution what we do on an individual basis. You can find this especially when you’re by yourself. If there’s a disturbance, like you don’t like being by yourself because you don’t like yourself, then there’s your ministry. You can make greater blessing the focus for your intention. If you’re having a hard time with yourself, then move your intention to finding the peace and joy that is always present inside regardless of what conditions are present. There is always blessing in the Traveler’s presence with you.

Blessing of the Lord’s Embrace Lord, we come to You as Your children, and as Your children we adore You. We love the way You are. We love Your strength, Your wisdom, Your beauty, Your fun-loving nature, Your compassion, Your ability to hold when we need holding and to inspire when we need inspiration.

Right now we ask and invite You to come powerfully, purposefully,

into our heart and into our personal nature. If in any way we’re attempting to hide or deny, right now we give that up. We let it go.

We call Your name. We welcome Your light, Your radiance, Your cleansing, Your healing. We experience Your energy renewing us, vitalizing us.

As we look through our vision there’s clarity, that You give us greater ability to see and understand the compassionate heart of caring.

We ask You to renew our relationship in this world, that once again

You lift from us, You take what is not necessary, especially what we’ve been hanging onto unconsciously or through our past actions.

We find You’ve liberated us. You’ve brought forward a new consciousness. We bless our basic self, however many there are, so that we’re also renewed in our appreciation for our life in this world.

We forgive whenever we have misled ourselves and denied the opportunities that You’ve brought forward because You are bringing new opportunities forward, and this is who You are.

We feel Your embrace, and we embrace You fully. We take a moment to close our eyes and experience pure joy, complete peace, and that special kind of rest where we let go and we relax completely, knowing we are safe in Your embrace for You are the one who has the whole world in Your arms.

Living and Working with John-Roger An Interview with Joey Hubbard by David Sand

NDH: What is it like working with J-R? Joey: What’s funny is that I never considered it work. It’s interesting because there were times when you’d go four or five days in a row with very little to no sleep, whether it was with NOW Productions or something going on at J-R’s home. Whatever it was, I never once thought, “Oh, I’m tired. Oh, I’m working hard. Oh…” There was just this incredible energy with him. It was like he was this boat that was making its way through the waves and we were riding the slipstream behind him, following in his wake energetically. You didn’t get tired. There’s also the other element of doing something that you love. I experience that now with Insight. Joey, John-Roger, Joey’s brother David Raynr with Australia Insight family 42 New Day Herald

‘Oh, I’m tired. Oh, I’m working hard.’ ”

Joey Hubbard is CEO of Insight Seminars, and has studied with J-R and worked with Insight since he was a teenager.

David Raynr and Joey with Insight participants In the early days of Insight, when you were assisting you were there till as late as it took. People were having phenomenal experiences when the Spirit would come in, and it didn’t matter. It wasn’t work. So the way I would phrase it, instead of “work,” would be, “being lucky enough to be around J-R.” That’s the experience I would have. There are so many things that I’ve learned from him about that

sustainable energy. There were a couple of times when I was at his home in Mandeville with him and it was late and I said, “Hey, J-R, I’m just going to crash here.” One time he said, “Just sleep in my bed.” I said, “I can’t take your bed.” He said, “No, I’m not going to sleep tonight.” “What do you mean you’re not going to sleep?” He said, “I’m on duty. I’m responsible for the universe tonight. I’m on watch.”

msia.org

That to me is also something I’ve learned in terms of working with Insight: sharing with people my perception of the truth so I don’t sugarcoat it. But they still get that I love them—and I learned that from J-R.

Obviously, at 19 years old I didn’t fully comprehend what it meant. But I knew that I couldn’t imagine myself, as tired as I was at that moment, saying I’m going to go another 12 hours or more without sleep, to be on watch, on duty. I didn’t understand that. I didn’t have that kind of capacity. It would put me in awe. And it was both good news and bad news for me because at some point I was comparing myself with J-R, thinking, “I’m never going to be as good as J-R.” But it was also aspirational. I wanted to be like this man. In my wildest dreams that was what I wanted. NDH: What were some of the main things you learned from him? Joey: I think in terms of what had the greatest impact on me. When I was 19, we were doing an Insight 1, one of those big ones with 350 people or so. The training was over and we were all standing in a circle. I got this huge sharp pain in my stomach and it literally took me from standing to being on the floor. J-R came right over. He started checking it and he said I’d created tumor there. I went to visit him soon after that for an aura balance and, to make a long story short, all that went away through some stuff that he did. I asked, “How did I create this?” He said, “You’ve been so selfjudgmental because you’ve been comparing yourself to me or to other guys on my staff that you thought you ‘should be like.’ ” At 19 years old, I was a kid. But I still wanted that. And every time I didn’t do something perfectly, I’d beat myself up so much that my body said, “Okay, if you feel that unworthy, we can leave.” At that moment I shifted dramatically and I’ve been extremely accepting and easygoing with myself and others, knowing that it’ll all be just fine. Everybody who spends time with me in my life knows that my attitude is, “you do what you do.” You’re not going to get judged by me. I have to watch, making sure I don’t do that to myself. But I’ve gone almost to the opposite end where I just go… “okay, yeah, I Click to Continue p.48

screwed up, next.” I probably could take more time to figure out how to not screw up again, but I move so fast off of it. That was really a gift from J-R—the attitude that everybody is doing their best, there’s no value in judgment, the power of forgiveness, acceptance (which is the first law of spirit). I’d say that would be at the top of the list of what I’ve learned. There are other things that I work towards like unconditional loving. J-R could hold in a way that communicated, “no, that’s not okay” and you got his love. I think many of us have experienced him putting his foot up our butt and saying, “You’re off course, dude,” and still feeling that it was an extremely loving communication. That to me is also something I’ve learned in terms of working with Insight: sharing with people my perception of the truth so I don’t sugarcoat it. But they still get that I love them—and I learned that from J-R. NDH: Did you see him change over the years? Joey: J-R would change every five minutes. [Laughter.] You could be sitting with J-R and he’d be one way, and someone else would come over and he’d completely flip because there was a different lesson for that person to learn. You’d be in that scenario where somebody was really getting it, and you’d quietly lean back in your chair and be glad you weren’t in the crossfire. The thing I enjoyed was the many complexities of that consciousness. Sometimes it was J-R the guy and sometimes it was the Traveler that was showing up there. I loved all of it. It was a great reference point for me also because I think at some point in my life I saw that thing called the Traveler as if it’s supposed to be perfect. It was supposed to do everything perfectly and accurately, to know everything. But J-R was just human. A human who was bringing that consciousness forward. It was also great for me to see when J-R made a mistake or didn’t know something. It grounded me in the awareness that we’re here on the planet and that’s just how life is. I think that over time as he aged, he obviously 48 New Day Herald

changed in terms of his outward appearance. I actually saw him not long before he passed. He was in a hotel room. I wanted to check something with him and Jsu (his personal assistant) said, “Come on up.” He was just in the room with a nurse and he was sitting back with his eyes closed. But when he would open his eyes he was right there and we’d connect. I think in many respects I feel even closer to him now than I did over the last few years. I feel his presence very clearly directing Insight. Insight is growing and expanding. I see that happening mainly because I think his energy is back in it, and from where he is, it’s probably easier to do that. I’m here at Insight because of J-R. When I did my Insight 2 it was on a payment plan and I missed a payment. I thought, “I’m going to get paid in two weeks. I’ll do it then.” I was at the Insight building and J-R came out of his office. He called me over and he said, “You missed your payment.” I said, “Yes. I’m going to do it in two weeks.” He said, “Okay. You’re banned from the building and any of the trainings you were going to be in until you make that payment.” Now, my whole life was going over to Insight. So I was going to miss a couple of trainings, and I couldn’t even come over to the building. We had made an agreement, but the way I approached it, if you couldn’t keep it, you didn’t renegotiate it, you just assumed it was going to be okay until the next thing came along. And here’s J-R saying it’s not okay. He was like my dad. There was nobody in my life who was doing that. That was a wonderful lesson. Obviously I was devastated, but I don’t know if there could’ve been any better scenario for me at the time. I remember asking my boss, “Hey, can I work more hours?” It was like, no, everything was full. It was painful to not be around Insight. When I came in and made the payment and was getting ready to walk back down the stairs, he came back out of his office and he said, “Come here.” We went back up in his office and he said, “You have a responsibility to Insight. Every time you msia.org

walk in this building, bring the Light. Every time you engage with the trainings, you bring the Light. You hold a certain consciousness here that is responsible for what you do in this building.” I didn’t see what all that meant then, other than that at every training I was holding the light as best I could. But later I realized that was probably more about this time now, as a fulfillment of my ministry of keeping this work going as best I can. And not just keeping it alive, but moving from surviving to thriving, and then taking it into a really expansive state. There are very few things out there as powerful as the work of Insight, especially in the @msiaorg

places in the world where they don’t have anywhere near the access to all the stuff we have here. It’s important that people really learn the true value of connecting to themselves, and what loving themselves means. That’s what this work is all about. NDH: So J-R was kind of like a dad for you. Joey: Yeah, for my brothers David, Michael, and me. David and I, we both were wanting to be on J-R’s staff. David told me that J-R told him his karma wasn’t to be on his personal staff, but mine was. And J-R told me that my karma wasn’t to be on his personal staff. [Laughter] I New Day Herald 49

Brad Pie and Joey performing think it was like we had other stuff to do. In many respects, my dad was a great guy, but he was gone from the time I was 5 until 22. We weren’t bad kids or any of that. Mom did a very good job as a parent. We all woke up every day wanting to do good and do our best. But there’s a certain level of a discipline, of what it means to be a man, in terms of maturity and responsibility, and just being able to have somebody who says, “That’s off course. There’s consequences.”

can’t because you did this or that, it gives you a certain awareness, that this action causes this consequence. So being around J-R was a quick maturing process. It was constant. I mean it wasn’t like you learned and then you stopped learning with J-R. Being on his staff or being around his staff was constant vigilance. You’d have to keep your Light going, you’d have to do your S.E.’s, you’d have to be responsible. If you started bullshitting a little bit, J-R picked it up. He sniffed it out very fast.

My mom, when she would say, “Hey, that’s off course,” we’d feel bad. But there was never the kind of consequence that seemed to hurt to the core, or something on that level. When you really want something, like you want to be around J-R or Insight and he’d say you

Often when people would leave staff, I would see it coming. I saw it a long time before it happened. You could just see it. I was a silent observer. But it was clear.

NDH: You were really young when you started. Joey: I met J-R at 13. What was funny about that is, my mom came home one night and said, “Hey, I met this guy,” and when I was seven, we used to pick up the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi when he would fly into L.A., when Transcendental Meditation was was hot in L.A. We had big afros, and we’d have flowers in our hair, and we’e give them to him. At seven years old, I was the youngest person he’d ever initiated. So I knew Mom would be looking for those kinds of guys. I wasn’t skeptical, it was just, “Okay, here’s another guy.” But then I immediately started dreaming at night of flying with a guy. I didn’t know who it was at that time, but I’d be flying around like superman, flying around next to him and he was showing me things. I had several dreams like that. I didn’t make anything of it and then she said, “I want to take you to this place called Prana and introduce you to J-R.” When we walked in to Prana, he came out of a room where he used to do his Light studies, and I looked at this guy and thought, “That’s the guy I’ve been flying around with.” He comes right over to us and hugs us and looks in our eyes and he says, “Yeah, you guys are welcome.” It was like he knew us, we knew him, and that’s the start of the love affair where mom was taking us up to his house and all of that. From that point on, there was never a moment of hesitation.

I immediately started dreaming at night of flying with a guy. I didn’t know who it was at that time, but I’d be flying around like superman, flying around next to him and he was showing me things.”

NDH: That would’ve been what year? Joey: 1974. NDH: So you were around for a while before Insight. Joey: Yeah. When Insight came, everybody was all excited that they were going to do this training. My brother David and I were going up to J-R’s house a lot. David and I asked if we could go and he said, “No, not yet.” I think he wanted to see what the training was going to be like. Then after the training, he asked again. J-R said, “You guys could take the next one.” We were in the second one. It @msiaorg

Joey facilitating Teen Insight at Lake Arrowhead retreat grounds was great. After that training is when we said, “We want all of our friends to take it.” When I talked to Russell Bishop (Insight’s co-creator, along with J-R) about it, he said, “Well, if you get 60 teens, we’ll do a teen training.” David and I went out and about a month later, we had 60. Russell was like, “Oh man, I didn’t expect you guys to do it.” [Laughter] That was when J-R said, “You guys are going to have to learn how to do this because we’re going to start doing this work with teenagers. We want younger people to facilitate.” That kind of started Dave and I on that track of facilitation back then. NDH: You were facilitating Teen Insight and you were still a teenager? Joey: Yeah. Dave and I were, yeah. 52 New Day Herald

NDH: What was that like? Joey: It was interesting. I was facilitating but then I’d get pulled into teenage stuff, like, “What are the assistants doing or what are the participants doing…they’re all going out tonight…okay, let’s go out!” And it was like, “No, no, you’re the facilitator; you can’t go out with the participants.” That was kind of funny. But we had a group of us who got really involved. We were all teenagers. NDH: Kids of MSIA people? Joey: Yeah, we were all kids of MSIA people. For a long time, the way we connected before Insight was that J-R would let us use the downstairs at his house to do teen MSIA seminars, which were Pauli Sanderson and Rick Edelstein taking us through a discourse or msia.org

a meditation, or conversations about life. We would do it there, or we’d do it at Leigh Taylor-Young’s house, or Rick’s house. That’s how we were all connected. It created this bond, a spiritual bond. Then when Insight came, it gave us a vehicle to take our group and create something. NDH: And you’ve been facilitating ever since. Joey: Yeah. NDH: You moved to adult trainings later on? Joey: Yes, I think I was maybe 21. They needed a trainer in Chicago for an adult Insight, and nobody else was available. They said, “Would you go do it?” I said, “Sure.” I get there and I’m 21 years old and people are at least twice my age in the training. It was awkward at the beginning. I was really nervous. But by the time we got into it, it became the same as any other. J-R said, “Go for it. You can do it.” NDH: How do you stay tuned into Spirit when you’re facilitating? Joey: Morning, noon and night, I ask for J-R and Spirit to be with me, and for me to get out of the way. One of the biggest things J-R had taught us around Insight

over the years, was that ego is not doing it, the Spirit does. You can put a candle on the stage and people would have the same experience. So you don’t get caught up in the illusion that you’re doing it. That’s been huge to me because there is stuff that I say or that happens in that room that I don’t know mentally. I don’t know how I knew that. It wasn’t conscious. The more I do this work, the more I realize I just keep getting out of the way. I can feel it if I get in the way. It’s almost like…you’re interrupting the flow here. Get out of the way; you’re a boulder in the dam. The ego will do that every once in a while. So I think it’s just continually asking for Spirit, continuing to ask for J-R and the Light. I don’t pretend that I know anything because I don’t… especially what’s true for anybody in the room. The other thing that I learned from J-R that is just part of my process is humor. When I do that work, I like to do it with humor. I don’t enjoy things that don’t have some lightness, some levity and joy in them. NDH: Do you experience a difference between the work of MSIA and the work of Insight? Joey: The work that MSIA does isn’t about the “10% level,” which is how J-R describes

Insight is about…“That behavior you have doesn’t work. What are you going to do about shifting that behavior?” You could come to the same realization through a spiritual focus very easily, but that’s done more passively. In Insight we’ll tell you.”

J-R’s energy came in, in a big way. And Insight has grown pretty significantly and will continue to grow. We’re on the right trajectory. I even had a meeting yesterday with someone who asked, “How do I fund Insight?”

the physical level and its order of importance in the whole scheme of things. Science has discovered the impact of meditating, and it definitely impacts your well-being on a physical level. So yeah, it does impact the 10%. But it’s not about the same kinds of things Insight is about, which more like, “That behavior you have doesn’t work. What are you going to do about shifting that behavior?” You could come to the same realization through a spiritual focus very easily, but that’s done more passively. In Insight we’ll tell you. If you ask, “Why isn’t this working?” MSIA is going to say, “We love you. Here are some tools, figure it out for yourself.”

the collective consciousness that’s in the room. Some people don’t believe in God or Spirit or any of that. They just want to experience heart stuff, and that’s all fine. We have room for all of that. People were moving their consciousness in huge leaps in five days— and still do, by the way. There’s no place on the planet where that happens. When you see people on day one of the Insight 2 and you look at where they are at day five, I doubt that you’d find anywhere else where that happens. It’s happening in Insight 2’s and that’s where a huge shift takes place. Miracles happen.

NDH: It seems like in those early trainings there were a lot more phenomena in them, and people having very intense spiritual experiences, not just 10%-level insights.

NDH: Have things been different for you since J-R died?

Joey: Yeah. Well, J-R was there. And it was a base of people that were very open to that. If you go to the lowest common denominator in that room, they were wide open, like, “Spirit, take me.” I think they gave the Spirit permission to come in and rock the house. In Insight these days, since you can’t inflict on any consciousness there, it doesn’t always happen like that. There are still moments when some pretty amazing stuff happens. It’s because of 54 New Day Herald

Joey: I don’t think so other than I miss him. There was always a part of me that wondered what was J-R doing, or I want to catch up with J-R. I had moments that were on my calendar when I knew I would see him. What’s different is that I don’t have that part running. There wouldn’t be a lot of conversation or anything, but it was just being in the space with him. I think in some respects I miss that. But it’s like missing someone you love. On the other side, he is always forcing us to work on the inner relationship. I worked on it. So I feel like in some respects I’ve got him msia.org

in here in a really big way, and I feel that’s even bigger since he’s gone. There’s more of him. The energy is bigger. NDH: I’ve found that inside it’s great, but being in the world there’s more negativity. It’s harder to stay clear sometimes. Joey: I definitely wonder sometimes. You see this in what’s occurring with world events. I remember when I was in Vegas, and J-R was visiting during one of the presidential elections. Some of us were talking about it with some upset, and J-R said, “The Spirit has this. This country was founded with Spirit. The Spirit is very active in what’s happening here. Don’t you guys worry about it.” The attitude was something like, “It’s bigger than us.” I remember stepping back and thinking, “Yeah.” Sometimes now when I see things that are going on in the world, I wonder if there’s a reason for it. But I’m going to trust that there is. Whatever that is, it’s stirring things up and we have to be vigilant. The negativity is going to do what it wants to do. It doesn’t care about anything else. But I’m trusting that the Spirit has it. NDH: Have there been any changes in Insight since J-R’s passing? Joey: Oh yeah. When J-R died we were right in that space of figuring out what we were going to do. He died in October @msiaorg

of 2014 and in February, 2015 we did our first Founders Insight 1 which was in honor of J-R. We used video clips and we only charged $50. The whole purpose was to honor J-R. We had 350 people sign up for that training in about ten days. We had to do a second one because we had so many wanting to take it. I said, “Let’s just do another one,” and we had another 250 for that one. It flooded our system so much that we had to add more Insight 2 and Insight 3 seminars. We ended up tripling the number of seminars that we did in L.A. compared to the year before. And that growth arc has continued. J-R’s energy came in, in a big way. And Insight has grown pretty significantly and will continue to grow. We’re on the right trajectory. I even had a meeting yesterday with someone who asked, “How do I fund Insight?” He said, “I’ve done everything, I’ve been a professor, a doctor, I’ve served on boards for 40 years. And this is the best work I’ve seen. Why is it not everywhere?” I said, “Help me figure that out.” He said, “I will.” Those kinds of things are showing up now. NDH: What’s on the horizon for Insight now? Any plans you can share with us? Joey: My goal with Insight is to do things like a subscription site. So everybody who takes a training will get access to some of the content of the training. I

want to grow our ability to reach out. I’m talking to some people about how to do a better job from the marketing perspective. The MSIA Presidency has been very, very supportive. From a profit perspective, we’re making money and paying off debt. We only have one debt that’s still there. It’s not about if Insight is doing well or not doing well. We’re running a very solid, successful organization. All our trainings run at a profit. We’re going to stay small in terms of staff. Rachael Jayne does an amazing job of keeping Insight operations and the small staff on track. I don’t see us taking on a heavy staff load. I like the volunteer energy, and I’ll never take a salary for doing this job from Insight. To me, if we do this right we could be in another ten U.S. cities in five years. We’re looking at doing trainings in Switzerland and Romania. It will grow through Europe and we’ll reenergize Australia, and we’ll put some money into helping those countries in South America where they have challenges. They want to do the work. They had 100 trainings last year. But sometimes there are 25 people in the room. They’re not making a lot of profit. It’s tough with the economies of Venezuela and Brazil. But those will flip around. I just want to touch many, many more hearts. NDH: How do you market something like Insight? Is that possible? New Day Herald 55

Joey: The question really hasn’t been answered. Even when you look at similar workshops, they do heavy recruitment through word of mouth. It’s about me getting you to feel obligated to go bring two or three of your friends. Insight is never going to take that approach. We’ve got to find other ways. I had a funny idea in one of the Insight trainings, I said, “Let’s have insightonly.com, a dating service like farmersonly.com,” where people of consciousness could find people like themselves. There are some sites like that. But we may need to create some businesses around it so that through business references people

come to Insight. How we market Insight is something I’m looking at very closely. NDH: Have you that found the types of people who are attracted to Insight changes over the years? Is there any way to predict who’s going to like it, and who’s not? Is there Insight “type” that has changed over the years? Joey: What’s funny is Insight is one of those things where very few people don’t like it. Usually, there are two kinds of people who don’t like it. One is they’re not ready for it. They’d prefer not to look at some of the stuff that shows up in the room. They were comfortable being uncomfortable in the other

My favorite J-R story is hard to talk about. But it’s when he’s initiated me— because I didn’t know anything about what the initiation was.

space and now we asked them to start looking at, for example, whether their relationship is working well. It’s like, no, I don’t want to do that. They’ll leave. The second person is the person who thinks everything is perfect and that they’ve done it all. Early on in a training they’ll get a little niggle on that. Maybe it’s not as perfect as they think, and they’ll come up to me and say, “I’ve done all this before. I’ve got a lot going on. I’m going to leave. I don’t see anything new for me here.” That person is actually more challenged than the first one because they’re avoiding it, but they think that they’re not avoiding it. But beyond that, we have a lot of people from USM recently, that love USM and had a great experience there, and they get something different from Insight. We also have a lot of Insight grads go on to USM or MSIA, and they get value from it all. NDH: Has the content of the Insight seminars changed over the years, or is it pretty much what J-R created?

NDH: Do you have a favorite J-R story? Joey: There are lots of them. My favorite J-R story is hard to talk about. But it’s when he’s initiated me—because I didn’t know anything about what the initiation was. I kind of screwed up because J-R said, “Read your discourses.” In 1976 I knew my sixteenth birthday was coming and I hadn’t read them. I was taking the bus back and forth every day for work. I took a discourse every day, and read it going up and back. I read 24 discourses over the summer. I called J-R and I said, “J-R, I can get initiated.” He said, “You read all your discourses in a couple of weeks.” I said, “Yeah.” He said, “The reason why I said to read them over the two years is because I’ve been dealing with the karma of your reading the discourses every day for the last two weeks.” I was like, “What?” I didn’t know. That’s when they put the rule out that you can only read one discourse a month. I just wanted to get to my initiation. But then when he initiated me, he told me all this stuff about my lifetimes with him… that was a very cool and special moment in terms of just that time with him.

Joey: Pretty much what J-R created with Russell. I’m not willing to take away the J-R stuff. People My funny J-R story is: I was working up at J-R’s who did the training yesterday tell me that it’s house in Mandeville. They had a flood up there the best thing they’ve ever seen. People who did it almost 40 years ago say it’s the best thing they’ve ever seen. Why mess with it? People say, We developed “How do we tweak this or that?” I’m always open to little tweaks that are more functional. We’ve this course called progressed a little since the 1978 days. in terms of the Masters Class some of the logistics. But as far as the content, it’s the same work. NDH: Do you think people are coming in on a different level? Joey: Oh yeah. In 1978 when we talked about win-win (where both sides of an issue can win without a fight), people would say, “What are you talking about? That’s impossible. Now, everybody is thinking about win-win right away. They may not get it right away, in its totality, but it’s so much more part of the conversations they’re having.

NDH: What would you like Insight to be? What’s your long-range vision for it? Joey: Global service organization that’s providing the trainings in all the major countries. I think I’d like to be a little more expansive. I’d love for us to fund trainings. For instance, right now, in Venezuela, to take a training is a year’s salary. I’d love to give a free training, pay for the room, charge them $5 (which still gets their attention but everybody can do it) and put 300 people in the room. I love to do ten of those every year somewhere in the world where everybody wants to be there and we send those 300 people out and they go get another 600 people. msia.org

I think that’s the way that really grows Insight, but we need the funding to do that. That’s significant. We need the people who say I’m going to put myself on the line to make it happen. We have a lot of those people already but we just need to keep identifying them. I’d love Insight to be doing trainings in Africa or India—places that just don’t get access to resources like this. I would love to have the ability to pick a location, support somebody in making the training happen where money wasn’t the issue, and then put in place a structure to make sure that it’s foundational. In Bulgaria it’s like it was in the U.S. in 1980, when Insight was growing exponentially. You can’t get enough of it. Seventy-five people taking the Insight 4. I see where there’s still such a need and I see the value that it has. I think the biggest thing for me with Insight is to find ways to attract millennials, and people that have consciousness and see something of value in what we offer. I think we have to build an online presence that allows us to capture some of that, and we have to keep finding new places. The way Bulgaria is responding…why not Estonia, why not Serbia? I want to start looking at where there’s a real calling and expand into some of those areas. I’m training new people. I started facilitating almost 40 years ago and I was a baby at that time, and there are not very many people who have come in at a younger age than I was since then. We need to get a new young crew of facilitators. I think that will also bring a new younger energy into the room. We’ve opened up the facilitator candidacy program, we’re pulling from people of all ages. They don’t have to be young. But we want new energy, new blood in the facilitator crew. J-R did such a wonderful job of training us that I realize we’d better pass this on. If we don’t pass it on, it goes away. We developed this course called the Masters Class where we’ve taken all of J-R’s wisdom and teachings in the Insight world and put them into a class @msiaorg

around achieving mastery. We’ve now got a new high-end product that’s attracting a lot of people who have been around for a long time and done a lot of work and they’re finding it valuable. NDH: Can you tell me more about the Masters Class and how it works? We do three trainings that are four days each— Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday— for three consecutive months. So for three months you’re in the course, and you look for either an internal or external goal that you want achieve. We go into some very deep work that I started with J-R years ago around what I call paradigms. What’s the deep inner belief that is taking you away from being on course with your path, with your direction, with what you want for yourself? Everybody’s got them. Sometimes they’re strong enough to really divert us, and sometimes they aren’t. They just pull us, but we’re still steering our own ship. We go very deep into what that is, both the limiting version and the opposite, the positive version. We start supporting people through creating what we call a field of loving in the room and then some “mastermind groups” to support you outside of the room. For the course of that training, you are working towards mastery in your life—inner mastery, external mastery. And we bring in the latest science. There’s so much science now that proves what J-R was saying years ago about the power of the heart and how our thoughts impact our brain. Mary Ann Somerville worked hard on the design. As we would talk it through it became clear it was coming from spirit, and in my experience J-R. We do a lot of deep work with individuals. We keep the training small (40 is the maximum) helping them get to that place where they can create what they want from a place of mastery. It’s based on that old principle of the master’s class in the arts, where you’re a great artist, but you would go to a class of other great artists and maybe New Day Herald 61

The Awakenin by John-Roger, DSS

People often ask

me, “How is Insight different from the other seminars that I’ve heard about?” I tell them that there are a lot of different seminars available in today’s world and they are all really fine with what they do. However, I’m not doing these other seminars. I’m working with Insight Seminars and we deal with a whole different type of inner energy. People participating in Insight after attending seminars and groups often comment on the gentle and nurturing approach they discover in Insight. They note the lack of restrictive confrontation or attack on personal beliefs they have come to expect from other seminar experiences. Some are amazed to discover the depth of experience that is achieved through such an easy and natural process because it is so natural. What is learned in Insight is easy to transfer to everyday experience in very workable ways.

66 New Day Herald

When people

ask, “J-R, what is the Insight seminar about?” I say, “It’s really hard to tell you because it’s about you. It’s about what you do and what you don’t do. It’s about how you do it and how you don’t do it.”

Those of you who have participated in Insight can attest to the fact that Insight didn’t do anything for you. That is true. Insight gives you a lot of keys and experiences that may be completely new experiences for you as far as your heart goes. A lot of these are tools that you can use in your daily life. But guess who decides whether or not to use those things? Yes, it’s you. We can give you the key, but you have to put it in the doorknob and turn it. So you’ll be the one who determines whether or not you get something out of Insight. The more you participate, the more value you’ll get. We’ve all had reasons for non-participation in our lives, and haven’t they been good? Perfect! Now we can just cast the reasons aside and open the heart. In Insight we work with the heartfelt energies; awakening the heart. The way you can experience more of the heartfelt energy is by becoming involved and becoming more active in your life. The heart may seem to close down periodically in order to regenerate, but it will stay open more and more and more as you start participating more fully in your life. This energy will move past your mind, emotions, and ego until it comes to the very center that we

call Love, or God, or the Heart, or energy, or Spirit, or whatever term you want to call it. In Insight we use a statement: “Go for it!” When you are thinking you don’t know why you should do something, we say, “Go for it!” Why? What have you got to lose? The fear that runs you? The ways you limit yourself? The things that have authority over you? Any fear you have, any resistance, any type of programming in you that says, “Oh, I can ‘t because ... “ are things that have authority and power over you, Insight grads will tell you that through your willingness to “Go for it!” and participate as fully as you can, you may find ways to step free of limitations of the past. When people ask, “J-R, what is the Insight seminar about?” I say, “It’s really hard to tell you because it’s about you. It’s about what you do and what you don’t do. It’s about how you do it and how you don’t do it.” And they say, “Give me an example. “ The Insight Seminar works like a mirror. You’ll have many opportunities to see how you do things that support you and are to your advantage, how you do things that undermine you and work to your disadvantage, and how you

msia.org

transform your life experience in greater ways than you may have previously thought possible. As we are looking for ourselves, we often see ourselves in others who are open to reflect. We then love them, not just for who they are, but for that reflection of our love in them. What we’re really saying is, “When I’m with you, that place inside of me that is loving awakens.” In awakening the heartfelt energies, you can’t help but discover your own self-worth, your own

self-love, your own magnificence. Then you start to learn the subtle nuances of the insight and you bring it out here so it’s an out-sight, or you might say, out-of-sight. We won’t have true outer sight until our inner sight or insight in present. We really don ‘t have outer loving until our inner loving is there. We aren’t going to have outer peace in the world until inner peace is present. That’s our job, to start having peace inside. So really the prayer, the affirmation, the challenge for today is:

Let there be peace on earth,

and let it begin with me. With every breath I take, let that be my solemn vow. . . to love each other, to be with each other, through all eternity. Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me. In light and Love,

Being of Service: A

70 New Day Herald

An Inner Ministry by

Mate Kelber Ihat have always felt being an ordained minister is an honor, a

privilege and a blessing, and I hold that very sacred in my heart. Alex Padilla encouraged me to write J-R a note asking to be ordained. J-R was visiting Colombia at the time and I was only on Discourse #3. I had no idea what being a minister was about or what “being of service” meant. Even so, I gave Alex a handwritten note that basically said: “J-R, I want to be a minister…” I don’t even recall what I wrote as the reason why. I do remember being very nervous waiting for an answer and getting very excited when the answer was yes. I was ordained almost 30 years ago.

“I choose to volunteer. I am grateful that J-R knew I was “minister material” as there are innumerable blessings that have come my way through the years that I believe are a result of my being of service.”

There is much that has happened in my life since becoming a minister, and there is a whole lot more that has taken place in my consciousness by virtue of being of service. I am blessed with a life where I don’t have to work to make a living. This leaves me with significant time to do whatever I choose. I choose to volunteer. I am grateful that J-R knew I was “minister material” as there are innumerable blessings that have come my way through the years that I believe are a result of my being of service.

@msiaorg

New Day Herald 71

I’ve come to realize that my ministry is not so much about what I do or how much I do when I volunteer; it is more about the time I spend in a consciousness of service. I am aware that beyond the job at hand, what I am actually “doing” is making myself available to the energy that I was connected to when I was ordained. I am using that connection not only to do the work, but to allow the Light to work with me and through me. My ministry is truly more about giving myself the opportunity to come present in my heart and express that through my service. It is about allowing myself to be sustained and nurtured in the Light and experience unconditional loving. When being of service, I am transported to a safe place where I simply let myself be. It just happens. I get out of the way, and the more time I spend in service the more I get to effortlessly practice being present with myself. I have to say that the place of grace and ease I experience when I am of service is where I learned to connect with myself in a way I had not known before. It is a place from which I was able to build up a sense of self I didn’t know existed. It is how I learned of my selfworth and experienced accepting and loving myself with no expectations.

In challenging times I minister to myself by getting busy doing volunteer work. (Thankfully there is always something ready to get done!) Being of service is my refuge; the oasis I go to when I am in the middle of anything of a negative nature. I take a break from matters of the world and give myself the opportunity to let go of anything that no longer serves me. Time and time again, after being of service things are back into perspective, I’ve gained clarity about what to do and what not to do, and always, always I am back in my center to deal with what life has brought to me. As a result of being of service I am renewed and restored, the inner place of peace, loving, caring keeps on growing and expanding inside of me, and I grow and expand in my ability to hold the Light and minister to myself and others. I have learned that acts of service are not to be qualified as big or small. I think we would probably be amazed if we knew the full impact of everyday practices like doing Spiritual Exercises, calling in the Light, sending and holding the Light, planting Light columns, praying and many more. I believe that because they can become second nature, we consider them as insignificant when they are, in fact, a powerful ministry we often “forget” to acknowledge as such. I have been blessed to serve with people from whom I have received inspiration and loving support throughout the years. I thank each and every one of you, you know who you are. As long as God will have me, it will be my honor to continue to serve in any way I can. I am so grateful for the circumstances in my life that allow me to do what I love to do as a minister of the Light. Thank you.

Laren Bright Have you ever heard something come out of your mouth that you hadn’t

really thought about before and realized it was a profound truth for you? That happened to me around 1991 at a job interview. I had been working at Hanna-Barbera Animation for three or four years writing cartoon scripts for Saturday morning TV. (That was back in the day before smart phones when watching cartoons on Saturday morning was what kids did.) Then Warner Bros. Animation approached me to be one of the story editors (like a producer in live action television) on a new show they had in the works: Batman: the Animated Series. I wasn’t sure I really wanted to leave H-B, but my friends in the business were counseling me that this would be a really good career move, so I went to check it out. Even though the position offered a huge increase in pay, I was still iffy. At H-B I was able to pretty much make my own hours as long as I got the work done, which in turn made it easy for me to be at the MSIA headquarters at Prana on Monday nights for ministerial board meetings. I had been serving with the LA Ministerial Board for almost ten years at that time and it had become a real priority in my life. The new job would be a lot farther away from Prana and I didn’t know if I would be able to leave early enough to get to the board meeting on time.

@msiaorg

New Day Herald 75

I knew the woman I was meeting with well enough that she was aware of my involvement in MSIA. So at one point I found myself making a very interesting—and most definitely unpremeditated—statement. I said that I had two jobs, a day job and a night job. My day job, I noted, was really important to me because it provided financial income so I could live and support my family. My night job, I told her, which was my volunteer work with MSIA, was really important to me because it kept me together so I could handle my day job. I did not ever want my day job to keep me from doing my night job. I heard what I said and in that moment, I began to realize in yet another way how important serving was to me. Generally people in MSIA know me through my work with the ministerial board. That’s nice for me because I like attention as much as the next guy. I don’t talk much about the other stuff I do in service, whether for MSIA or in other areas, and that’s nice, because with that silent service I find a sense of joy and fulfillment that I’m not aware of in any other activities I engage in.

76 New Day Herald

At Conference when I received the award for service this year I said that I was really grateful to be allowed to serve and contribute to work of the quality that J-R has created, and that John Morton and the MSIA Presidency support. Over the years, there have been a few moments when I have gotten a glimpse of what a privilege it is to do this service—or any service—and have written to J-R and John to thank them again for including me in their work. To be honest, there are also moments when the call of service has been annoying or inconvenient. Those are the moments when service gives me the opportunity to learn about myself and grow. Even as I write this, new benefits to being of service are revealing themselves to me. I guess the bottom line of it all is that, while I love my MSIA family and am glad to serve, at the end of the day, I do it for me. And I find it interesting that I wasn’t even really aware of how truly important and beneficial service was to me until I heard myself saying what I said at that interview 25 years ago.

msia.org

Post Script  The people at Warner Bros. agreed to my leaving early on Mondays and I did take the job for the first year of Batman. Interestingly, it was not fun for me because of the nature of the stories we had to write. J-R taught that energy follows thought. For my work in animation I translated that to: What we can inspire the children to believe is what the world will become. The Batman stories were dark and violent and did not create particularly positive images for children to aspire to. However, that assignment did lead to my next job. It was back at H-B, lasted for four years, and would be the last major work I had in the animation field. It was working with a great team of people story editing and writing a show called The New Adventures of Captain Planet. Captain Planet is an environmental superhero whose message is “The power is yours!” Writing stories that hopefully inspired children to make the planet a better, healthier place turned out for me to be another form of service, and yet again I was humbled at being given such an amazing opportunity to serve.

Means to Me by

Emeka Elechi

First, let me start by expressing my gratitude to J-R for his love and blessings. I was ordained on September 9,1986, when J-R visited Nigeria. He charged us to go and do good works.

Service is the highest level of consciousness. As a minister in the church of the Movement of Spiritual Inner Awareness, l know l have to be a facilitator of good works. I am also guided by my spiritual blessing which states, “As your essence is one of gentleness so shall your ministry be. This gentleness should take the form of an outreach. As you reach out in your gentle secure way you will create a safe space for those who are doubtful of the higher calling.”

“I keep reminding myself

of the admonition of Jesus the Christ. He said ‘If you do it to the least of these you did it to me.’ I am now resolved that my actions must produce loving, joy and caring. I have been steadfast.”

Service to me becomes standing as a facilitator and creating a safe space for me and people around me. And taking care of myself and others. I keep reminding myself of the admonition of Jesus the Christ. He said “If you do it to the least of these you did it to me.” I am now resolved that my actions must produce loving, joy and caring. I have been steadfast.

@msiaorg

New Day Herald 81

My initial experience was judgmental. Then I started asking myself, “Am l doing it to the least one? Is my action producing joy and happiness? Are people happy to be with me?” These questions produced the loving that opened my heart. I became more loving, caring and ordinary— ordinary because l discovered that l was not doing it but that greater one inside was doing the serving. I was just making myself available. Being grounded in the Traveler’s teachings also was an added advantage. Example: Don’t hurt yourself and don’t others. Take care of yourself so you can help take care of others. This is like armor for a good minister. I was always making myself available. With time l found out that l was making myself available for Spirit to do the work. The work is anything that is heartfelt, experiential or can be valuable for others. The most important thing l will emphasize here is that loving is the key. Our ego or personality have little or no role to play serving others. The great ministry starts with getting the Traveler’s teachings grounded in us, because all we do

as ministers in the church of the Movement of Spiritual Inner Awareness is predicated on the teachings. Be an example. Be loving. Be caring. Be there for yourself and others. Notice that l did not talk about what and how l ministered to earn the precious award : Minister of Year 2016. Since September 1986, when l had my ordination as a minister in the presence of J-R, l have remained steadfast. Even in times of financial difficulties, when l had to borrow to be able to remain active as a minister and a facilitator for the action of Spirit, I held my home soul awareness seminars even when nobody was there. I go to homes of students who don’t have money to travel to do their initiations. I am always happy because l know that Spirit is committed to me and l am committed to It. So it is not, “see what l have done,” it is “see what Spirit has done.” I give Glory to God Almighty and to the Traveler for giving me the opportunity to be of service and a facilitator for Spirit. I love you all. God bless you. God bless John Morton. God bless John-Roger. God bless the Church of the Movement of Spiritual Inner Awareness.

The Joy of My by

Martha Ringer

My ministerial blessing opens with a statement that I have

created a solid foundation inside of me so that this ministry could come into fruition and that as I open to serving others in the outer world, I will find “the joy of my own devotion.” On a PAT IV in the 1980’s I visited the Christ’s Tomb in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem. Through the eyes of my ego the tomb, with its plastic flowers, appeared a bit tacky and unappealing. Yet in that moment I saw through Spirit’s eyes. I saw beauty unlike any I had seen before and there were no words, just essence present. Later that day J-R asked me if I had been able to get into Christ’s tomb. (The lines had been too long when the group was there so he suggested going back later, on my own, to see it.) As I told him my experience I was filled with the radiance of beauty in and around me that had been in the tomb. J-R said to me, “You have just experienced the true meaning of devotion.” In that moment I understood beauty, devotion, joy and loving all at once but was without words to describe it. Serving as a Minister is my opportunity to invite all these qualities present. When I am present with them inside me I experience the joy of my own devotion as I serve. The loving devotion poured into those plastic flowers in the tomb radiates the beauty of the Christ as my reference point. 86 New Day Herald

That inner knowing and elevation is what emanates from us all as we serve from the Traveler within. The tenets of “take care of yourself first so you can take care of others” and “your first ministry is to yourself” have been my teachers. I remember “trying” to be of service in the beginning, wanting to be a good minister and forgetting to serve from my overflow. J-R and all the teachings, through discourses and seminars, and my spiritual exercises, showed me that the Self I was to take care of dwelled inside of me as me, and had nothing to do with my personality or ego. What needed nurturing was the loving in me, the caring in me and being in attunement with the precious soul I am, and we all are. And from that place I am to minister. So began a journey of self-loving—often aloud—of loving comments of beingness to myself vs. the critical statements I was accustomed to. I invited in the sweetness, gentleness and purity I experience emanating from J-R. I wanted that deep connection within myself, and with my Soul. I asked to feel the fullness of that line from my blessing— “finding the joy of your own devotion.” Early in 2012 I experienced a big shift in my inner and outer ministry with this inner message from J-R: “Your life is no longer about you, it’s about serving. Frame everything in terms of serving. Serve the Christ in the one msia.org

“Love is the matrix that makes it all possible; it is the energy of Spirit that is the essence. And it is through love for yourself that you find the Soul and learn that its expression is your reality.” —John-Roger, DSS

“If you have a vision, a dream, a yearning for something that is worthy of you, then it is also worthy of your devotion. What is worthy of you? That which uplifts you, supports you positively, and contributes to your joy and abundance. When you connect and commit to that, you can devote your life to it. And it’s less a matter of your saying, “I’m ready to die for it,” than your knowing, “I’m ready to live for it.” I mean really live by experiencing the zest, the enthusiasm, the happiness in living in gratitude and fun. Genie Ford

Genie received the Lifetime Service Award at MSIA’s 2016 Conference

I was looking for a teacher, and I knew it. I grew up in Texas in a large family in the Depression. My mother was a Bible-quoting person—for everything. It was interesting, though, that I don’t think she had any fun. I was the fourth of nine children and I taught Sunday school in a Baptist Church. But it didn’t fill that part of me that felt close to God. What I knew from God wasn’t in the Bible. My personal experience is what carried me through—not what my mother was always quoting. My father just lived the teachings. I can’t recall him ever going to church. But he came from one of the first families of Texas. My mother came from a very fine family as well. It’s kind of sad to see a woman who came from a very prominent family but was never happy. So I made my own fun. I was not unhappy, although I was often criticized for the way I expressed myself. But all of that has all just melted into the nothingness of growing up. I went to the Unity Church, I went to the Church of Religious Science, and none of that touched to me or spoke to me about the love of God. Then I met John-Roger for the first time at an art gallery in Whittier, CA in 1967. I went with a friend and didn’t know there was going to be a guest speaker.

“It was such a special

time, because when people connected to the words that J-R put out, they moved out here to be with him, and made all sorts of changes in their lives. He had such devotees, people who were so hungry for the teachings.”

I said to the person I came with, “Can you see the stage?” She said, “Yes.” For me it was just a blob of white. That’s all I could see. I couldn’t even see a figure on the stage. Just a bright light. As soon as he was finished with the seminar I went up to him and I said, “Do you have classes? Because you know things I’m looking for.” He said, “No, I teach high school.” (There wasn’t even an MSIA at that time.) I said, “If you ever…” and he said, “I teach high school, and I counsel with the students.” And I said, “Well, my son just graduated from high school, would you counsel with him?” And J-R gave him a light study. It was such a special time, because when people connected to the words that J-R put out, they moved out here to be with him, and made all sorts of changes in their lives. He had such devotees, people who were so hungry for the teachings. People would fill several rooms in a house at seminars. J-R told me that he had been my teacher in the lifetime before this one, and I had an unconscious recognition of that. I had really been looking for him. I didn’t miss a single one of his seminars, and I would travel many miles to see him. I did audio and video seminars every week at my home. People came from near and far. I’m still in touch with some of them. People would sit everywhere, all over the floor, all of them absorbing what J-R was here to give. It was wonderful because I knew that I had finally touched in to who God was and what God meant to me. It’s beyond words.

Once there was another spiritual teacher appearing at a conference in Santa Monica. J-R asked me if I was going to see him. I said, “No, he’s not my teacher. You’re my teacher.” J-R just shook his head. I wasn’t mixing up what I had with something else. I think Spirit kept me very close because I’d been studying Spirit in other lifetimes and never made it. J-R told me that in another lifetime I was a man in a spiritual school where you had to study for a certain period of time before you could take a break. Before I graduated I went “on leave,” but I was on a vow of silence. My father owned a shipping fleet and I went out on one of the boats for my holiday away. I was standing on the deck of this ship and my foot was caught in the anchor rope, so when they threw the anchor overboard they threw me overboard too. I screamed, and when I got back to shore I didn’t tell anyone because that would be an admission that I did talk.

“I think Spirit kept me

very close because I’d been studying Spirit in other lifetimes and never made it.”

I helped duplicate discourses in the early days. Working with J-R—there was nothing like it. I knew the truth was coming through him. I never dreamed I would ever touch to God in the way that J-R opened my awareness. That part of me that had memories from another lifetime resurfaced, not to where I could put times and dates on it, but I knew he was speaking the truth. J-R had no againstness toward anyone, even people who would get angry with him or who would leave the organization. I don’t have many stories about J-R. It’s funny but they’re sort of taken away from you so you don’t spread just stories. It’s the experience that’s important.

An early seminar in Cali

My Soul Awareness S by 94 New Day Herald

Stella Reinis

My heart is full of gratitude

and joy today as I start sharing my experience offering and participating in Soul Awareness Seminars. I have to go back in time to tell you how it all started.

Cali

Twenty six years ago my brother introduced me to the MSIA teachings during his Christmas visit to Cali, the city where I was born and where I was living at that time. He recommended that I subscribe to Soul Awareness Discourses and buy the Journey of a Soul and Inner Worlds of Meditation books. He also shared about the Ani-Hu and the Light—how to ask for it, how to send it to people, situations or circumstances. I learned the concept of “for the highest good of all concerned,” and, now that I think about it, this was my first Soul Awareness Seminar. The MSIA teachings were only available in Bogotá and Medellín, so I patiently waited for the next seminar or workshop to participate in. Three months later, I was in Medellin participating in

a Spiritual Exercises retreat. For me it was like being in heaven. It was quite an adventure, and the first thing that I asked the Spirit was: “I want these seminars in my city.” Rinaldo Porcile and Jaime Vela were my first mentors—two loving guys, ordinary people like J-R, full of love, manifesting the divine essence that we all have. I came back to Cali with an application to fill out and send to Bogotá so Rinaldo could take it back to Los Angeles for approval. I read in the application that I needed to include a black and white picture, and I struggled to find somewhere to get the photo, because in the one hour photo studios they used only color. I ended up going to a professional photography studio to get it that same day.

While the photographer was taking it, I said to myself, “Well God, if it is for the highest good [as I was taught to say], please, I need the pictures for today.” and I was inwardly chanting Ani-Hu…Ani-Hu. In the afternoon when I came to pick up the pictures, there were a lot of beautiful models in the room waiting for pictures to be taken. I asked for my pictures and the person at the counter asked me to go see the photographer because he needed to show me

He said, “Well I’ve been in this business for decades and I’ve never seen this. The film was ruined but the only picture that was good was yours—in the middle of the film. The entire film was exposed to light. Why is yours perfect?” I responded: “God knows that I really needed it.” This was my first experience of the miracle of the power of the Ani-Hu. 96 New Day Herald

My journey started. I was reading my Discourses until one day I received a call inviting me to an MSIA introduction in a hotel downtown. I was told that I could invite my friends to the seminar, so I picked up the phone and started making phone calls, inviting a lot of people. My surprise was huge when I got to the hotel and all my friends were there (19 in total—I’ll never forget that number). I started offering a seminar every Tuesday. In English they were called home seminars; in Spanish, we called them “MSIA reunions.” Two of my friends in that first hotel meeting, Mary and Jeannette, went to a party afterward and were so happy and full of energy that they called the next day and asked me, “Why are we so happy? What happened in that meeting?” They told me they wanted to experience more of that joy, and they hosted seminars in their homes for years. That is the foundation of our Soul Awareness seminars—our encounter with the Spirit, the joy from our souls, the simplicity of the tools that J-R teaches. The guidelines “Take care of yourself so you can help take care of others; Don’t hurt yourself and don’t hurt others; and Use everything for your upliftment, learning, and growth,” and the basic tenets “Out of God comes all things; God loves all of its creation; and Not one soul will be lost” were presented over and over every Tuesday for years. We did not miss a day. It was our date with the Spirit and

we were always learning—and not just from J-R. We were learning from people’s sharings as well. Our seminars could have from 10 up to 60 people attending. Great souls dedicated to service supported the seminars, and every Tuesday we introduced the teachings to new people. Our community grew in the love and Light of the Travelers. The Spirit was present and manifested in many forms. In these home seminars, we learned the concept of Spiritual Exercises. Since the first place where we hosted them was a gym, I used to tell our guests, “Well, the same way that you exercise your body, you need to exercise your soul.” Chanting the Ani-Hu created that empathy and love as a community and as a group, and we took care of each other in a very loving atmosphere. One night we started chanting, but we were not in good harmony and the seminar leader asked us to stop and sing it from our heart and our soul. What came out of our mouths was so loud and funny that we were not able to chant. We laughed and laughed before we moved to our next step and listened to the Golden Temple meditation by J-R. I remember that a lot of people told us that they were stressed out, and the laughter was the best medicine that night! Just what they needed. At the beginning, I have to admit that my ego was present on certain occasions, thinking, “Wow, the seminar went so great today.” Then as I offered more and more seminars, I learned that the Spirit msia.org

was in charge, that it was not me or my personality; it was God speaking thru me. I learned to be present with the Spirit and to listen to my inner guidance. Some days I prepared a meditation and had the seminar ready, but at the last minute after playing “Our Song of Love” and chanting the Ani-Hu, something guided me to change it. At the sharing, I listened to a person saying, “Thank you so much for this meditation, it is just what I needed today”. That was for me to let go and let God run the show.

I was blessed to have this opportunity to serve others, to experience the Spirit present in our seminars creating that beautiful energy, that sacred place for all of us to get together in the name of God. It is good to do Spiritual Exercises by yourself, but when you do it with others, it brings present to the room Christ’s premise: when two or more gather in my name I will be there. We had the opportunity to put situations in the Light and get the blessings that God has for us. We were miles away from Los Angeles, but in our hearts and souls we were so close to the

Travelers that it was unbelievable. There was so much devotion. We would not stop doing our seminars. There was an earthquake one night and we were all there with candles because there was no electricity. Not even Mother Nature could stop us. Eventually, our group of ministers contributed and worked to rent a place and name it “La Sede” (the headquarters) to host the Soul Awareness seminars and do PTS classes and workshops. It is our little Prana in Cali. I offered seminars there until November 1998, when I moved to Miami.

At the first seminars in Miami

Miami One of the things that I missed the most when I moved here was the seminars. We had the PTS classes, the online seminars, and the Masters class, but we did not have our Soul Awareness Seminars. I thought it was impossible with the driving distance, until a number of ministers and seminar leaders from Colombia moved to Miami. They loved the close encounters with the Spirit in seminars, and we put our intention and our energy into offering them. We announced our intention during our ministers meetings, and now we are hosting a seminar every Wednesday at 7:30 pm at the home of Luis Mario Agudelo and Marybell Castaneda (who also used to host seminars in Colombia).

We’ve already had four seminars!! What looked impossible is a dream come true. We know that here in the United States we have to drive a long way to attend, but it’s worth it. I am blessed to be part of this wonderful energy. We asked God for this opportunity to serve, and it is manifesting. We’re now even starting to test out people participating in our seminars via Skype. Any seminar leader can attend and offer a seminar, and the one that has the calling from the Spirit does it. The great benefit is that you one day have the opportunity to serve others, and the next time you are participating being served by another leader. I feel that we are setting up the foundation of a great community in Miami. We’ve had people attending for whom this is their first MSIA seminar. The experiences they shared were profound; we who had been ministers for years were amazed. My dear friend has attended two so far, and after the second one she texted me early in the morning to thank me for the invitation and to share the benefit that she received from participating in the seminar.

I also had an opportunity two weeks ago to minister to a hairstylist whom I had recently met. When I went to her for my hair cut and treatment, we started talking about books and I told her how to download the Journey of a Soul book on MSIA’s website. She’s already finished reading it and told me that she is ready to be part of the home seminars—and she has offered her home to host them as well. It was a very special moment for us. I hugged her like I had known her forever. We were just the two of us in the house but I could hold the Light the whole time and share from my heart what I love the most about MSIA! For me this is another way to host a seminar, sharing the teachings when the Spirit gives us the opportunity. I would like to invite all seminar leaders to set the intention and open the space to get together as a community to expand the teachings. I know that we have busy lives and there may be a week or more where you will not be able to participate, but if we work as a team, others will hold the energy. God bless us all and God bless John-Roger and John Morton for their love and dedication to guide us back home!

Bridging the Spiritual and the Physical Classes begin October 7–9, 2016 The educational paradigm the University of Santa Monica brings forward is both radical and simple: The transformed world you seek around you can only emerge by first transforming the world within you. That world is your own consciousness. For more than 35 years, USM students and graduates have discovered their own unique answers to life’s essential questions and have used their transformation in consciousness to actively transform the worlds of business, medicine, media, coaching, counseling, law, education, family, and more. What they have discovered is available for all to discover— A transformed world and a transformed life are only as far away as your own consciousness.

And that starts within you. “USM is a place where you can learn how to resolve the karmic patterns that hold you here. And perhaps even more important, you can learn how to continue walking through this life without creating more karma … the University will continue to grow, and I strongly urge you to participate at USM.” —John-Roger, D.S.S.

“Moving your inner awareness into your Soul is easy, but it’s just as easy to lose that awareness.

You can fall out of awareness because the world doesn’t seem to support spiritual awakening. Spirit lets you in easily, but It has to give way to the materiality of the world. The material world has a billion distractions, so it’s necessary to watch where you place your focus and your motivation for creating what you want. The MSIA Ministry The MSIA ministry is for initiates of the Traveler who are called inwardly to serve the spirit of their hearts. Service may be in any form, from volunteering for the Church to assisting people in need or organizations that serve those people, and anything in between. The only requirement is that the ministry is active and done regularly. MSIA ministers may perform services, like marriages, that clergy of other denominations are authorized to do as long as they comply with the laws of the locality in which they serve. People who have received initiation into the Sound Current through the Traveler may request an Application for Ordination packet from: .JOJTUFSJBM 4FSWJDFT *O "DUJPO r 8 "EBNT #MWE -PT "OHFMFT $" @msiaorg

Initiation Students in MSIA have an opportunity to be initiated through the Mystical Traveler Consciousness into the Sound Current, the audible stream of energy that comes from the heart of God. The levels of initiation in MSIA correspond to levels of consciousness both within and outside each person: astral (relating to the imagination), causal (relating to the emotions), mental (relating to the mind), etheric (paralleling the unconscious), and Soul (relating to who we truly are). There are also initiations above the Soul level. The astral initiation happens in the “night travel (dream state) after a person has in some way come in contact with the Mystical Traveler; it is not anchored physically at that time, and the person may do no more with it in their lifetime. The next initiation is the causal, which can generally take place (be anchored) after two years of study with the Soul Awareness Discourses. (The astral initiation is anchored at the same time as the causal initiation.) Successive initiations are mental, etheric, and Soul. If you are just starting the Soul Awareness Discourses, Discourse #1 explains initiation into the Sound Current. You may choose to study the Discourses with the intention of being initiated or simply read them as information. This is up to you. If you do choose to study toward initiation, you need to write a letter as soon as you have decided and then email (or mail) it to the Traveler, saying that you are doing this. If you write this letter, the Traveler works with you more closely, and you may notice a greater spiritual awareness in your consciousness as this inner work goes on. After two years of study with the Discourses and if you have written and sent your intention letter to the Traveler, you can apply for causal initiation, generally when you have completed Discourse 24. The Traveler will look into your request, and you may be offered the opportunity for initiation. For astral/causal, mental, etheric, and Soul initiations, the person meets with an initiator and is given an initiation “tone (the name of God for each realm that applies to the tone), which the initiate chants inwardly during spiritual exercises. These initiation tones are charged with spiritual energy by the Traveler Consciousness for each person individually, and the Traveler assists the student in clearing enough karma on one level to be initiated into the next level. For the levels of initiation above the Soul level, no initiation tone is given physically. For more information about initiation, you could read the chapter called Initiation in John-Roger’s book Fulfilling Your Spiritual Promise (available in paper and electronic versions). And we also recommend these seminars by John-Roger: “Initiation—Molding the Golden Chalice The key seminar about studying towards initiation and being an initiate. Available in CD and MP3 formats. “The Sound Current: The Road Home An excellent overview of MSIA and initiation. Available in DVD and MP3 formats.
