COM FAUNA E FLORA RIQUÍSSIMOS, O PARQUE CRIADO EM JUNHO DE 2004 É A PROVA VIVA DA CONSCIÊNCIA AMBIENTAL DO POVO DA REGIÃO

Um verdadeiro oásis de Mata Atlântica, incrustado e salvo em Santa Catarina. Assim pode ser descrito o Parque Nacional da Serra do Itajaí, que abrange os municípios de Blumenau, Ascurra, Apiúna, Botuverá, Gaspar, Guabiruba, Indaial, Presidente Nereu e Vidal Ramos. Até o início do Século 20, praticamente toda a área do parque, 57.374 hectares, era de matas primárias. Surgiu apenas uma Mina de Prata na região, em 1896, mas ela sucumbiu à vontade da natureza de se manter viva. Graças à força do verde, em junho de 2004 foi criado o Parque Nacional da Serra do Itajaí, um verdadeiro paraíso para quem gosta de estudar e observar a fauna e a flora. Pesquisas confirmam a existência de 800 espécies no local, sendo 340 tipos de árvores e mais de 460 vertebrados. Entre as árvores identificadas, algumas estão em extinção, como a canela-preta (ocotea catharinensis). Dos 69 tipos de mamíferos encontrados na área, destaque para o Puma, animal ameaçado de extinção também conhecido como leão-baio ou suçuarana (puma concolor). Espécies de aves há 310, das quais 107 são endêmicas do bioma, só ocorrem em Mata Atlântica. Pelo menos 34 estão na categoria de ‘ameaçadas’, como o Gavião Pombo Grande (leucopternis lacernulatus). Estudos feitos na região apontaram a existência de oito espécies novas: três anfíbios, quatro espécies de aranha, uma de efemeróptero (inseto aquático). Toda essa biodiversidade poderá, em breve, ser conhecida pelos turistas através de roteiros programados com guias. Os passeios serão monitorados com o objetivo de preservar as espécies. O coordena-

dor do Instituto Chico Mendes – entidade do governo federal que administra o parque –, Fábio Faracco, explica que o plano de manejo já está pronto, mas em fase de revisão para ser publicado. Nele estão todas as normativas referentes ao parque e, principalmente, à forma como ele será explorado pela iniciativa privada. De acordo com Faracco, o papel do governo federal é de fiscalização e normatização. Os passeios, caminhadas e quiosques com vendas de produtos, serão implantados pela iniciativa privada. O objetivo é permitir visitações apenas em algumas partes do parque. Em Blumenau, haverá dois pontos de visitação. Um deles é o setor Parque das Nascentes. Entre os atrativos do lugar, destaque para a Trilha do Sapo, que leva ao topo do morro este nome.

A REAL OASIS OF MATA ATLÂNTICA, carved and safe in Santa Catarina. That’s the way we can describe the Serra do Itajaí National Park, with 57.374ha of area divided among the cities of Blumenau, Ascurra,Apiúna, Botuverá, Gaspar, Guabiruba, Indaial, Presidente Nereu e Vidal Ramos. Until the beginning of the twentieth century, practically all the Park area, of 57.374 ha was formed of primary forest, without any alteration. Historical records point that only in the year of 1896 was open in the place a silver mine, but it gave in to the wish of Nature for keeping alive. Thanks to the power of green,

in june 2004 was created the “Parque Nacional da Serra do Itajaí”, a real paradise for those who like studying and observing the fauna and flora. Researches confirm the existence of 800 species in the place, being 340 kinds of trees and more than 460 vertebrates. Among the identified trees are some in ways of extinction, such as “canela preta” (ocotea catharinensis). Studies conducted in the region point to the existence of eight new species: three amphibians, four kinds of spiders and one ephemeropteras (water insect). All this biodiversity will soon be available for tourists via organized tours, with guides. The tours will be controlled with the goal of preserving the species. Fábio Faracco, coordinator of the Chico Mendes Institute, federal government bureau which administrates the Park, says that the handling plan has been

finished, but being reviewed before publishing. In the plan are all regulations regarding the Park, particularly concerning the way the Park will be explored by the private initiative. The Federal Government’s role is to regulate and follow the correct use and exploration of the Park, once the tours, walks, kiosks and others will be implanted by the private initiative. The final goal is allowing visitors to a part of the Park only. In Blumenau there will be two visiting spots. One of them is the “Parque das Nascentes” sector, with the famous “frog trail” – trilha do sapo, which leads to the top of a hill with the same name. I nverno | W inter 2009

molida porque acreditava-se que a comunidade Católica cresceria tanto que seria necessário mais espaço para abrigar uma legião de fiéis. Com a construção da nova igreja, a popular torre em forma de cruz foi substituída por uma imponente estrutura de pedra com 45 metros de altura, na qual há três sinos: o maior deles foi batizado de Jesus e tem 510 quilos e 110 centímetros de diâmetro. O sino médio, batizado de Maria, possui 350 quilos e 98 centímetros. O menor, batizado de José, tem 200 quilos e 82 centímetros. O conjunto é ativado por controle remoto. Os sinos foram instalados a partir de 18 de junho de 1928 e pesavam 2988 quilos. Em 16 de fevereiro, chegou o relógio, ocasião em que se deu a inauguração oficial da nova torre e dos altares laterais. A nova torre passou a ser mais admirada pelas duas novas atrações que apresentava: o dobrar dos maravilhosos sinos e a bela postura do relógio, trazido da Alemanha em 1930, com 484 quilos, cujo maquinismo ainda serve à torre da moderna matriz. O interior da igreja é admirável. Contém vitrais com belos efeitos de luminosidade e coloração, além de uma gigantesca rosácea com 8 metros de diâmetro, rodeada de outras 20 menores, com 60 centímetros de diâmetro cada. É um trabalho de cantaria fantástico. Dentre as várias peças e pinturas sacras do lugar, destacam-se as imagens de Nossa Senhora, Cristo crucificado, São José e o Cordeiro Pascal, todas localizadas na parte superior da entrada principal, esculpidas em cedro. Simbolicamente, elas representam a família, o perdão, a comunidade e o sacrifício, respectivamente.

granite, the majestic Cathedral St. Apostle Paul presents a new architectural concept for Catholic churches, making the building one of the cards postcards of the city. Designed by Gotfried Boehm, the construction of the mother church of Blumenau was executed by the brake Brás Reuter, who collected donations from the community to proceed with the works. Circuito das Caminhadas, onde saúde e beleza andam juntas BLUMENAU

repletos de surpresas, resgate histórico e verde. Também vale pedalar, o importante mesmo é participar dessa viagem de beleza por cantos bucólicos. Para comemorar os 180 anos da Imigração Alemã no Estado e meio século de emancipação político-administrativa de Pomerode, a cidade foi escolhida para o primeiro trajeto do ‘Circuito das Caminhadas’, projeto do Sebrae que concilia saúde e turismo de natureza. O passeio, realizado em maio, foi o primeiro circuito noturno de caminhadas entre os mais de 200 do Brasil. Criteriosamente organizado para promover a interação da comunidade e dos visitantes com o legado da colonização alemã, o passeio contemplou a Rota Enxaimel e foi todo iluminado para valorizar o patrimônio arquitetônico local. Há 14 edificações tombadas pelo governo do Estado como patrimônio público na cidade.

As casas enxaimel caracterizam-se pela volumetria avantajada, com telhados de grande inclinação. Outro elemento marcante construtivo desta técnica é a proteção da área frontal de atendimento comercial por telhados sustentados por uma sucessão de mãos francesas. Com dois pavimentos e um sótão, a moradia e comércio da Família Passold é um dos melhores exemplares da região. Na localidade de Testo Alto há uma exceção ao padrão. Com fechamento em taipa, fala-se que a propriedade de Helmuth Lümke, provavelmente, seja a primeira em estrutura enxaimel com este material de vedação. Detalhes como esse puderam ser conhecidos durante a caminhada, na Rota do Enxaimel. Outra edificação visitada foi a da Família Sivert. Casa com uma grande varanda, onde os pilares e guarda-copos rebocados com detalhes em massa formam losangos. São comuns neste tipo de construção as varandas amplas que se estendem por toda a fachada principal. Todos estes traços da arquitetura e hábitos dos descendentes alemães foram contemplados durante a caminhada, que contou com uma reprodução do Fackelzug (cortejo de tochas) e apresentações musicais para alegrar os integrantes.

O próximo passeio será em Blumenau, mas ainda não tem data definida. De acordo com a diretora de Planejamento Turístico da Secretaria de Turismo de Blumenau, Luisa Borda, ele ocorrerá no Inverno e terá 10 km de pura contemplação da natureza e das construções enxaimel. Blumenau contempla regiões ricas nestes aspectos para efetivar esta caminhada cultural, que pode ser realizada na Vila Itoupava. Localizada a 25 km do centro, reúne todos os requisitos para a implantação deste evento. No entanto, ao contrário da caminhada em Pomerode, onde o percurso foi à noite, em Blumenau será durante o dia com programação repleta de atrações culturais. Com traços herdados pelos descendentes alemães e ritmo tranquilo, o distrito cujo idioma oficial ainda é o alemão para os mais antigos abriga, entre outros atrativos, o restaurante Abendbrothaus. Conhecido pela receita de marreco recheado servida somente aos domingos para o almoço e com agendamento, é citado no Guia Quatro Rodas como uma referência da cozinha alemã no País.

Nine miles of walking full of surprises, a glimpse of history and green. You may also ride your bike. What’s really important is taking part in this beautiful trip through bucolic places. Celebrating the 180 years of German immigration in the State and the 50 years of emancipation of Pomerode, the city was chosen to host the first edition of the “Walking Circuit”, a project by SEBRAE which puts together nature tourism and health. The ride, which happened in may, was the first one among 200 in the country which happened at night. Carefully planned to promote the integration of visitors and community, the Walk took place in the enxaimel route, and was all lit in order to show the architecture of the place. There are in the route 14 buildings officially listed as public asset in the city. The enxaimel houses are characterized by their big volume, and highly inclined roofs. With two floors and a roof, the Passold Family home and store is one of the best samples in the region. In Testo Salto there’s one exception. With the closing in Taipa, it is said that Mr. Helmut Lümke property is probably the first one with this kind of material for insulation. Details like this could have been checked during the walk, in the enxaimel route. Another visited house belongs to the Siverts, a house with a big front porch, where the cupboards and pillars finishing form lozenges. In these houses it is common to see wide porches, using all the front of the house. The walk also counted with a reproduction of the “Fackelzug” (Walking with torches) and musical shows to please the walkers. The next walk will happen in Blumenau, but there’s no definition about the day yet. Luisa Borda, Director of the Tourism Secretariat of Blumenau, says it will happen in the winter and will have 10 Km of pure nature and contemplation of enxaimel buildings. the district is surrounded by green areas and preserves like no other part of the city the German traditions. The German architecture, bucolic atmosphere and predominance of the German language among the elders are the main attractions of the

place. The most famous touristic spot is the Abendbrothaus restaurant, known around the world and mentioned in the most important Brazilian guide (Guia Quatro Rodas) as reference for German cousine in Brazil.

Não há mal que não possa ser curado ou aliviado com as ervas cultivadas na Congregação das Irmãs Catequistas Franciscanas, em Rodeio. O trabalho teve início com a irmã Eva Michalak, que morreu há dois anos com quase um século de vida. Como legado, ela deixou um pomar com mais de 70 espécies de árvores frutíferas e dezenas de tipos de ervas que, segundo ela, curam desde uma simples dor de barriga até câncer. Eva garantia que as ervas curavam alguns tipos de câncer. Mas, para isso, é necessário tomar o chá certinho e não comer carne, um grande vilão da doença. Não importava se uma árvore levaria 12 ou 25 anos para florescer. A irmã Eva sempre procurava uma muda e plantava. Sempre andando descalço, mesmo no Inverno, ela dizia que as pessoas adoecem e perdem energia porque não têm conta-

to com a terra e a grama, fontes de energização naturais. Quando estava viva, diariamente a irmã recebia visitantes que a procuravam em busca de consolo ou uma receita para determinado mal. Quase sempre ela tinha uma erva para auxiliar. Mas Eva não levou o conhecimento consigo. Um livro foi organizado pela Empresa de Pesquisa Agropecuária e Extensão Rural (Epagri) com informações sobre algumas das ervas que ela cultivava e para que males elas servem. Mesmo com a morte da irmã, a congregação ainda recebe visitantes em busca de mais saúde e ajuda para combater doenças.

THERE IS NO ILLNESS WHICH CAN’T BE healed or relieved with the herbs cultivated at the Congregação das Irmãs Catequistas Franciscanas, in Rodeio. The work started with Sister Eva Michalak, who died two years ago, with almost a century of life. As her legacy, she left an orchard with more than seventy species of fruit trees and tenths of kinds of herbs which, according to her, will heal from a mere stomachache to cancer. Eva used to state herbs would heal some kinds of cancer. But, to do so, it is necessary to drink your tea according to the prescription and not to eat meat, the great villain of the disease. It didn’t matter if a tree would take 12 or 15 years to flower. Sister Eva always looked for a seeding and planted it. Always barefoot, even in the winter, she used to say the people get sick and loose their energy because they don’t have contact with earth, with grass, natural sources of energy. While she lived, everyday the Sister would receive visitors looking for consolation or a prescription for a certain sickness. Almost always she had some herb to help. But Eva did not take all the knowledge with her. There’s a book which has been organized by Epagri with information about some of the herbs she planted and what they’re good for. Besides, the Congregation still receives visitors in the search for better health.

A MODEL OF WISDOM Dead for two years, Sister Eva Michalak was a reference in Popular Medicine. She studied plants for over 70 years, as much in scientific literature as in her daily life. Many of the species studied by her had their medicinal properties proven by science. Sister Eva used to say that the key to a good health are balanced mind and diet: “illnesses are signs of unbalance caused by excess or privation of particular kinds of food”.

ma mulher ativa e sempre disposta a ajudar o próximo. Assim é a blumenauense Aglaê Nazário de Oliveira, de 54 anos. Dedicada ao voluntariado há um quarto de século, ela é presidente da Rede Feminina de Combate ao Câncer de Blumenau e também da rede Catarinense de Combate ao Câncer, funções que vai ocupar até 2011. “Fui convidada há 23 anos para ser voluntária na rede e me apaixonei pela causa”, conta ela, lembrando que a ONG tem uma importância vital, ajudando na prevenção do câncer de mama, doença que ainda mata mulheres em todo o mundo. No Brasil, o câncer de mama é o que mais causa morte entre as mulheres (www.inca.gov. br). Apesar da dedicação integral ao voluntariado, Aglaê não deixa de aproveitar as coisas boas da vida, especialmente do lugar onde vive. n active woman, always willing to help the others. This is Aglaê Nazário de Oliveira, 54. Dedicated to voluntary works for a quarter of a century, she’s the President of the Female Net Against Cancer in Blumenau and in Santa Catarina State, being ahead of the organizations until 2011. “I was invited to be a volunteer at the Net 23 years ago, and fell in love with the cause”, says Aglaê, reminding that the NGO is of vital importance, since it helps the prevention of breast cancer, which still causes the death of women all over the world. In Brasil breast cancer is the mais cause of death among women (www.inca.gov. br). Despite her full-time dedication to volunteer work, Aglaê hasn’t given up enjoying the good things in life, especially in the place she lives. According to her the Itajaí Valley is rich in attractions, whether in gastronomy, culture or leisure. Construída no período colonial, a então Wurtstrasse (Rua da Linguiça) tinha verdadeiro charme por ser estreita e cheia de curvas. Por lá passou o primeiro automóvel da cidade, em 1903. Vinte anos depois, a já denominada Rua XV ficou conhecida por ser a primeira via calçada do Interior de Santa Catarina.

Tradicional, a Rua XV resisitiu por quase 80 anos sem grandes mudanças, mas acabou cedendo ao progresso e teve os paralelepípedos da decáda de 1920 substituídos por paver (lajotas coloridas), em 1999, além de ganhar estabelecimentos dos mais variados segmentos da economia. Contudo, os traços da cultura foram mantidos e o conjunto arquitetônico sinalizado contempla 37 imóveis cadastrados como patrimônio histórico, dos quais 10 foram escolhidos para terem as fachadas refletidas nas lajotas da via. A comerciante Tereza Marcos, de 70 anos, acompanhou boa parte das mudanças da rua. Ela é proprietária do Bazar Márcia há 37 anos. “Esta rua sempre foi bem frequentada e, desde o início, se mostrou propícia para o comércio. Acompanhei suas transformações, desde o aumento do fluxo de carros até a mudança no perfil do comércio. Mas uma coisa nunca mudou: nossos clientes representam a essência do blumenauense, ou seja, pessoas honestas e ordeiras, que se preocupam com a cidade”, avalia ela, ressaltando que esse zelo está refletido em cada cantinho da rua.

Teatro Carlos Gomes Carlos Gomes Theater Em 10 de dezembro de 1935, a Sociedade Teatral Frohsinn lançou a pedra fundamental da construção do novo teatro. Com a denominação alterada para Sociedade Dramática Musical Carlos Gomes, a obra foi inaugurada em 1942. Possui um dos únicos palcos giratórios do Brasil, ambiente climatizado, escola de balé, teatro, dança, orquestra de câmara e centro de convenções. On December 10th 1935 the Frohsinn Theater Society Launched the pedra fundamental for building the new theater. With the new name of “Sociedade Dramática Musical Carlos Gomes, the building was inaugurated in 1942. However, the cultural traces have been maintained, and the signalized architectonical asset counts 48 historical buildings, from which ten have been chosen to have their fronts reflected on the colored concrete paver. Businesswoman Tereza Marcos, 70, witnessed most of the changes in the street, being the owner of Bazar Márcia for 37 years. “This street has always been very busy and, since the beginning, has shown to be good for commerce. I have witnessed its transformations, since the increase of traffic until the changes in the profile of the stores. But one thing has never changed: our customers represent the essence of the Blumenauense; honest and orderly people, who care about the town”, says Tereza, observing that this zeal is reflected in every little corner of the street.

Em toda extensão da XV há atrativos turísticos, além da própria arquitetura, que já remete à cultura da época da colonização In all the extension of XV Street you’ll find touristic attractions, besides the architecture itself, which reminds of the times of colonization

O passado e o presente de glória da XV de Novembro fizeram com que ela se tornasse a estrela principal de um Roteiro Histórico idealizado pela Secretaria de Turismo de Blumenau. O roteiro contempla história e cultura estampadas em 41 atrativos turísticos. Tem início na Ponte Aldo Pereira de Andrade (Ponte de Ferro, próxima da Prefeitura), passando por todos os prédios antigos e contemporâneos da Rua XV, terminando na curva do rio Itajaí-Açu, junto ao prédio da Fundação Cultural, antigo Paço Municipal, no período colonial. Este roteiro pode ser desfrutado em um passeio a pé.

The glorious past and present of the street have made of it the main attraction in a Historical Route, idealized by the city’s Tourism Secretariat. The route highlights the history and culture present in 41 touristic attractions. It begins at Aldo Pereira de Andrade Bridge (The Iron Bridge, near the city hall), passing all ancient and modern buildings on XV de Novembro Street, ending at the river turn, next to the city’s Cultural Foundation, where in old days was located the administration of the colony. This Route can be comfortably visited on foot.

Basta ter disposição para caminhar e tempo para contemplar a riqueza arquitônica dos prédios.

Castelinho da Havan Havan Castle Construído em 1978 e idealizado pelo empresário Udo Schadrack, a edificação é uma cópia da mais antiga prefeitura da Alemanha, datada de 1484, na cidade de Michelstadt. Foi projetada pelo arquiteto Heinrich Herwig, dando um toque de beleza no centro da cidade. Por mais de 20 anos abrigou a Casa Moellmann. Hoje abriga uma unidade de uma grande rede de varejo do Estado. Built in 1978 and idealized by businessman Udo Schadrack, the building is a replica of the most ancient city hall in Germany, from 1484, in the city of Michelstadt. It was projected by Heinrich Herwig, lending a touch of beauty to the downtown area. For over 20 years it was the address of “Casa Moellmann”. Today it shelters one branch of a big chain store of Santa Catarina.

Inaugurado em 1958, o moderno templo católico contém vitrais com belos efeitos de luminosidade e coloração. Possui uma imponente torre com 45 metros de altura, com três sinos eletrônicos que representam Jesus, Maria e José. Imagens esculpidas em cedro incorporam a fachada da entrada principal. O relógio foi trazido da Alemanha, em 1930, e pesa 484 quilos. Inaugurated in 1958, the modern Catholic Temple contains glass mosaic windows with beautiful light and color effects. It has also an imponent 150ft tower, with three electronic bells which represent Jesus Christ, Mary and Joseph. Images sculpted in cedar are part of the main entrance. The clock was brought from Germany in 1930 and weighs over 1000 pounds.

Trata-se de uma autêntica construção enxaimel com decoração típica da colonização alemã, na qual há uma roda d’água e uma atafona para produção de farinha de milho, entre outros meios de trabalho artesanal utilizados pelos imigrantes. And in the traditional “Grandma´s kitchen”, pay attention to the eggs which were hand painted by Silvana Pujol. imbó brilhou no Sambódromo Carioca em junho. Desta vez, a passarela do samba foi palco das provas masculina e feminina de marcha atlética 20 km, pelo 28º Troféu Brasil de Atletismo 2009. A estrela da competição foi o timboense Alessandro Baggio (Rede Atletismo/Acrilan), que não se limitou a vencer, batendo novo recorde no torneio com 1h26min31seg, desempenho que garantiu vaga no Mundial de Berlim (Alemanha), em agosto. Notícias assim soam como déjà vu no Vale do Itajaí, região conhecida como ‘celeiro de talentos’, de onde surgiram nomes como Ana Moser, que já foi a melhor do vôlei nacional. Para o presidente da Fundação Municipal de Desportos (FMD), o ex-atleta Sérgio Galdino, de 40 anos, a sucessão de talentos revelados é resultado dos investimentos no trabalho de base, fomentado com a criação da Comissão Municipal de Esportes de Blumenau (CME), em 1962. “A partir das inúmeras conquistas em competições oficiais, especialmente nos Jogos Abertos de Santa Catarina, Blumenau passou a investir na base, revelando nomes em mais de 40 modalidades”, conta. Nos últimos anos, atletas da região se sobressaíram no handebol, voleibol, atletismo, basquete, xadrez, entre outras modalidades.

Galdino é um entusiasta dos esportes, principalmente da marcha atlética, que acompanha há 25 anos. Ele já participou de três Jogos Olímpicos (Barcelona/1992, Atlanta/1996 e Atenas/2004), três Pan-Americanos e 12 mundiais. Brilho regional na Seleção A Seleção Brasileira de Handebol também possui um talento da região. A armadora blumenauense Eduarda Amorim, a Duda, de apenas 22 anos, é uma das mais experientes do time. Com contrato recém-renovado, a atleta já participou do Campeonato Pan-Americano, realizado no Chile, em junho. “Com essa renovação, vou ter uma responsabilidade maior e serei exemplo para as meninas que estão chegando”, diz Duda. Mas na Seleção ou não, a jovem já coleciona grandes participações no esporte brasileiro e mundial. Ela já brilhou nas Olimpíadas de Pequim, no Campeonato Mundial Adulto da França, detém títulos como dos Jogos Pan-Americanos do Rio de Janeiro e do Pan-Americano de Seleções da República Dominicana, além de integrar todas as seleções de base e disputar os principais campeonatos europeus de clubes. E os planos não param. Duda está motivada a disputar o Mundial de 2011, no Brasil. “Como sou de Santa Catarina, o Mundial será literalmente em casa e, por isso, vou treinar muito para estar lá”, avisa. A jogadora conta que teve uma ascensão rápida na carreira. “Comecei a jogar aos 11 anos, na escola, em Blumenau. Com 15, fui para São Paulo e, aos 19 anos, me transferi para Macedônia. O início foi muito difícil, o choque cultural é forte. Mas tive momentos muito bons jogando lá fora e dei passos importantes na minha carreira”, comemora. Outra estrela do handebol é Fabiana Kuestner Gripa, de 28 anos. Ela já recebeu convites para jogar fora do Brasil, mas preferiu continuar no time Blumenau/Furb, além de integrar a Seleção Brasileira. “Blumenau é uma cidade que incentiva bastante o esporte e o nosso time está se destacando. Não tenho por que trocar de time e de cidade”, conta.

She has already shined in Beijing 2008; World Championship in France, having also helped the Team win the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, Pan American Handball Championships in Dominican Republic, besides taking part in all youth and junior National teams and playing the main European Clubs Championships. And as plans never stop, Duda is looking forward to playing the 2011 World Championships, which will be held in Brazil. “As I’m from Santa Catarina, the Championships will literally be at home, and therefore I’m going to work as hard as I can to be there”, she warns. Duda tells about her career, which has been pretty meteoric. “I started playing when I was 11, at school, in Blumenau. When I was 15 I went to São Paulo and at 19 I was transferred to Macedonia. In the beginning it was really difficult, since the cultural shock is hard. But I’ve had great moments playing abroad and gave important steps in my career”, celebrates. Another Handball star is Fabiana Kuestner Gripa, 28, who has already been offered to play abroad, but she’s decided to stay with Blumenau/Furb team, besides playing with the National Team. “Blumenau has great incentives to sports and our team is doing pretty fine. There’s no reason for me to move to another city or play for another team”, says Fabiana.

FORÇA DO VALE NA FRANÇA Enquanto as meninas do handebol brilham no Brasil, o jogador de futebol Rafael Schmitz, de 28 anos, faz sucesso no Valenciennes, da França. O blumenauense conta que começou cedo nas escolinhas de futebol da cidade, passou por alguns times profissionais no Estado e no Paraná, mas há cinco anos joga fora do Brasil. “Fui incentivado e também tive um pouco de sorte, já que havia outros garotos jogando como eu ou até melhor nas escolinhas” , declara. Trajetórias como a de Rafael se repetem. Mas há também aqueles que jamais deixaram a cidade natal, contudo fizeram história no Estado e até no País. O médico angiologista, Walmor Belz, de 77 anos, é um deles. Conhecido como ‘garoto de ouro’, o blumenauense foi camisa 10 do Grêmio Esportivo Olímpico, o ‘rolo compressor da Baixada’. Campeão invicto no Estadual de 1949, o time foi destaque no futebol catarinense. “A harmonia da equipe e a confiança na qualidade de cada um tornavam o time imbatível. Isso fazia com que nos transformássemos em uma verdadeira máquina de fazer gols”, lembra.

Rafael, who was born in Blumenau, tells us that he started early playing at the city’s soccer schools, has been with some professional teams in Santa Catarina and Paraná States, but has been playing abroad for five years. “I had the support and I have also been a little lucky, since there were other boys at the soccer schools who could play as well as I could, or even better” states Schmitz. Stories like Rafael’s repeat themselves. But there are also those who would never leave their hometown, but have also made history in the State and even in the Country. Walmor Belz, 77, angiologist, is one of them. Known as “The Goden Boy” this son of Blumenau used to wear the #10 shirt playing for “Grêmio Esportivo Olímpico”, the ride on compactor from downtown. Unbeaten State Champion back in 1949, that team is still regarded as one of best ever in the State. “The team harmony and the trust we had in the quality of each other made our team unbeatable. That transformed us in a real goal scoring machine”, remembers Belz.

á certas coisas que só podem ser vistas no Vale do Itajaí, lugar onde a Monarquia desapareceu há décadas, mas ainda há muitos reis e rainhas e as armas são usadas por esporte. A realeza, neste caso, surgiu do espírito de associativismo dos colonos alemães que criaram, em 1859, na então Colônia de Blumenau, o primeiro clube de caça e tiro da região: Schützenverein Blumenau. Além de preservar os costumes trazidos na bagagem pelos imigrantes, ele também tinha relevante papel social, cultural, político e recreativo. A festa dos atiradores, a Schützenfest, era aguardada pela população com expectativa, como o momento em que os amigos se encontravam, tanto no Inverno quanto no Verão. Hoje, cerca de 20 mil pessoas participam de alguma forma dos clubes da região. As armas utilizadas pelos imigrantes para proteção da família, da propriedade e do comércio contra saqueadores, aos poucos foram se transformando em equipamentos esportivos. Em tempos de paz, organizavam competições de tiro. Aos prazeres deste esporte intercalavam-se a sociabilidade e a inclinação para organizar grandes festas. O atirador mais hábil era proclamado rei dos atiradores. Até hoje é assim, mas com o tempo surgiu também a figura da rainha.

Royalty, in this case, had birth on the associative spirit of the German settlers who created, in 1859, in the than Colony of Blumenau, the first huntig and shooting club of the region: Schützenverein Blumenau. Besides preserving the traditions brought by the immigrants, it also played a relevant social, cultural, politic and recreational role. The shooter’s party, Schützenfest, was anxiously expected by the population, as the occasion for friends to get together, in the summer as well as in the winter. Today, about 20 thousand people take part, in some way, in the clubs of the region. The guns, originally used by the immigrants for the protections of their families, properties and business were little by little being transformed into sport gear. In times of peace they organized shooting tournaments. Along with the tournaments came the sociability and capacity for organizing great parties. The best shooter was proclaimed their “King”. The tradition remains to our days, and eventually was also created the title of “Queen”.

TRÊS DIAS DE TRADIÇÃO O desenvolvimento do município, o nível de vida e crescimento populacional propiciaram o surgimento de outros clubes de caça e tiro e as Festas de Rei chegavam a durar três dias. O primeiro dia (domingo) era reservado para os festejos religiosos. No segundo dia, às 6h, a população era despertada pelo toque de alvorada e pelo estrondo de três tiros morteiros. Este dia estava reservado para as competições. Em colunas de dois, ostentando medalhas conquistadas em disputas anteriores, ordenados pelo capitão ao ritmo de uma banda, os participantes marchavam em busca do rei e seus cavalheiros. Isso ainda ocorre nos cerca de 40 clubes da cidade e região, onde há a maior concentração de unidades e foi fundada a Associação dos Clubes de Caça e Tiro. Porém, com os novos tempos veio um tom de modernidade. Os reis e rainhas não estão mais vestidos com roupas tradicionais, mas ainda ostentam orgulhosos as medalhas conquistadas. A monitora de transporte escolar, Odila G. Schultz, de 52 anos, foi eleita rainha, ano passado, no Clube de Caça e Tiro Itoupava Norte. Ela é frequentadora do clube desde os 15 anos, mas essa foi a primeira vez que alcançou o reinado. Ela explica que os reis e rainhas são eleitos depois de um dia de competições e, aqueles que obtiverem as melhores pontuações na somatória de atividades que participaram, vencem. Ela foi eleita rainha do tiro porque sua melhor pontuação foi nessa modalidade, mas participou também no bolão. O supervisor de vendas Amarildo Luiz Passold, de 40 anos, foi criado em clubes de caça e tiro com os pais e defende que a tradição seja preservada. “As atividades sociais dos clubes servem para unir as famílias, e isso é muito importante”, diz.

The development of the city, life standard and population growth have allowed the creation of other shooting and hunting clubs, and the King’s parties lasted up to three days. The first day (Sunday) was reserved for religious parties. At 6:00 on the second day people were woken up by the sound of reveille and by the blast of three mortar firing. That day was dedicated to the competitions. In two lines, holding the medals won in previous competitions, under orders on the captain and to the rhythm of a band they marched for the King and his Knights. That still happens in the nearly 40 clubs in Blumenau and in the region, where there’s the highest concentration of units. However, with the time a modernity touch came. Kings and Queens no longer wear traditional outfits, but they still proudly carry the medals they have won. Last year the school bus assistant, Odila G. Schultz, 52, was elected Queen at Clube de Caça e Tiro Itoupava Norte. She’s been attending the club since she was 15, but that was the first time she has ever become Queen. Odila explains that Kings and Queens are elected after a day of competition, and those who get the best scores overall in the competitions are the winners. She’s become shooting Queen for getting the best score in shooting, but she also took part in the bowling tournament. Sales supervisor Amarildo Luiz Passold, 40, was practically raised in a club with his parents. Despite not attending the club frequently, he defends the preservation of the tradition. “The social events promoted by the clubs help uniting families, and that’s very important”, says Amarildo.

Para que as lembranças não se percam e a tradição seja mantida, em 2006 foi lançado o livro ‘Memórias do Caça e Tiro’, contando a saga do Clube de Caça e Tiro Araújo, em Brusque, considerado o mais antigo do Brasil e da América Latina, em funcionamento. Fundado em 14 de julho de 1866, à época com o nome ‘Schützen-Verein’, servia, inicialmente, para treinamento de tiro de defesa contra ataques de indígenas e para reunir famílias depois das missas dominicais. Atualmente, o local é usado para a prática de bolão, bocha e encontros sociais. Com piscinas térmicas, pistas e canchas para os esportes, estandes de tiro ao alvo, sala de jogos e um belo salão de festas, o lugar serve de palco para os eventos mais importantes da cidade. O livro é distribuído gratuitamente na secretaria para manter a história viva. “É importante registrarmos tudo para que as próximas gerações tenham a oportunidade de conhecer nossa tradição e dar continuidade a ela”, defende o presidente do clube, Ewaldo Ristow Filho. Em Jaraguá do Sul, onde os costumes serviram de inspiração para a Schutzenfest (Festa dos Atiradores), há quase 20 clubes integrando a Associação dos Clubes de Caça e Tiro Vale do Itapocu. Eles trabalham unidos para manter a tradição e os costumes. O vice-presidente da associação, Celso Hille, conta que a associação é considerada o mais antigo clube da cidade com todos os documentos em dia. O ano de fundação é 1915. O estatuto, por exemplo, é escrito em alemão. Existem outros clubes antigos, mas estão desativados ou não conservam toda a documentação. Nos dias 14, 15 e 16 de agosto, haverá a Festa de Rei do Imigrante (Immigrantenkönigsfest), quando todos os clubes de caça e tiro se reúnem e será possível conferir todos os costumes da região.

With heated swimming pools, tracks and courts for the sports lovers, shooting facilities, games room and a beautiful ballroom, the place is the stage for the most important events in town. The book is distributed for free at the club’s office, in order to keep history alive. “It is important that we keep a record of everything, so that the next generations have the opportunity to know our traditions and maintain them”, says the club president, Mr. Ewaldo Ristow Filho. In Jaraguá do Sul, where the costumes served as an inspiration for the “Schützenfest” (Shooters’ Party), there are nearly 20 clubs which are members of the Itapocu Valley Shooting and Hunting Clubs Association. They work together for keeping the traditions and costumes. The Association’s Vice-President, Mr. Celso Hille, says the Association is the oldest club in town with all documents updated. The foundation was in 1915. The rules, for instance, are written in German. There are other ancient clubs, but some aren’t active and others don’t preserve all their documents. On august 14, 15 and 16 there will be the Immigrant King’s Party (Immigrantenkönigsfest), in which all the clubs get together and it will be possible to check all the regional traditions.

Crime durante a Nacionalização

CRIME DURING NATIONALIZATION

Durante a campanha de Nacionalização do governo de Getúlio Vargas, todas as associações de atiradores e caça e tiro foram fechadas e proibidas de atuar, sob qualquer circunstância, tendo suas armas e documentos apreendidos. Porém, passado esse período de dificuldades, a maioria reabriu as portas com mais força. Uma delas é a Sociedade de Atiradores Warnow, que, na época, teve o nome alterado para Sociedade Recreativa Warnow e, hoje, teve todo seu acervo devolvido. Entre os documentos recuperados está o estatuto de 1879, em alemão, e a transcrição para o português, bem como o devido registro junto à Presidência da Província de Santa Catarina. Em 2006, esses documentos foram acondicionados em sacos plásticos e, a partir desta data, não estão mais sendo manuseados sem a utilização de luvas, nem estão sendo fotocopiados, escaneados ou fotografados com flahs. Tudo isso para preservar os originais já desgastados. A cidade mais alemã do Brasil tem 16 clubes. O presidente da Associação dos Clubes de Caça e Tiro de Pomerode, Lauro Kath, diz que o município é um exemplo em preservação das tradições.

During the Nationalization movement, under President Getulio Vargas, all shooting and Hunting associations were forbidden of acting, under any circumstances, having their guns and documents apprehended. However, after that troubled period, most of them reopened the doors even stronger. One of them is Warnow Shooting Society, which, at the time, had its name changed to Warnow Recreational Society and, today, has all its asset back. Among the recovered documents is the club rules, from 1879, in German, and its transcription into Portuguese, as well as the due registration at the Presidency of the Santa Catarina Province. In 2006 those documents were packed in plastic and since then they haven’t been handled without the use of gloves, photocopied, scanned or had pictures made with the use of flashs, in order to preserve the already worn originals. The most German city in Brasil counts 16 clubs. The President of Pomerode Shooting and Hunting Clubs Association, Mr. Lauro Kath, says the city is a model in preserving traditions.

Os DJs se apresentarão nas quintas e sábados da festa, sempre no Setor 3, que, esse ano será contagiado com o tema “Nova Alemanha”. Com a vinda de DJs à Oktoberfest, a organização do evento acredita que a festa se modernize, sem perder a qualidade e, principalmente, sem se desligar da tradição alemã. “Os DJs, que vêm diretamente da Alemanha, foram escolhidos para modernizar a Oktoberfest, sem perder o foco da festa”, afirma o presidente da Vila Germânica. Natureza preservada BRUSQUE | Criado em 1992, o Zôo funciona como laboratório de reprodução em cativeiro de espécies das mais diversas presentes nas zonas de Mata Atlântica do Brasil.
