DEAR VIEWERS, We believe that there are no limits to the Müpa Budapest experience. We would like, even during this extraordinary situation, for our fantastic audience to still be able to encounter the world’s most outstanding and thrilling artists each evening – this time in their own homes. It is precisely for this reason that we have decided to unlock our media library for everyone over the weeks to come and – each night at the familiar times: 7 pm, 7.30 pm or 8 pm, depending on genre – open Müpa Budapest’s virtual concert hall by providing access to many live concerts (although without an audience) or an unforgettable performance from past years, which we’ll transmit on our website, and our YouTube channel. We trust that, in this way, we will be able to make the evenings you are spending at home more pleasant and full of magical and uplifting moments. Take good care, and let’s continue to stick together!

AS A MEMORY
PANNON PHILHARMONIC Beethoven: The Consecration of the House Overture • Beethoven: Piano Concerto No. 5 in E-flat major, Op. 73 • Schumann: Symphony No. 2 in C major, Op. 61 Featuring: Dezső Ránki – piano • Conductor: Tibor Bogányi Remembrance, large-scale compositions, solemnity: this is how one could sum up this concert programme from the Pannon Philharmonic Orchestra. Following Beethoven’s massive overture, so prone to pathos and evoking the style of later eras, will be the composer’s final piano concerto, known as the ‚Emperor’. We will then take an inner journey by means of Schumann’s Second Symphony, as we get to know the composer’s spiritual and emotional world. The performance will be broadcasted on our website and YouTube channel.

BARTÓK: BLUEBEARD’S CASTLE, THE MIRACULOUS MANDARIN Bluebeard’s Castle: Andrea Szántó – mezzo-soprano • Gábor Bretz – bass Károly Mécs – prologue (from recording) The Miraculous Mandarin: Mimi: Ujvári Katalin • The Mandarin: Péter Koncz • Bon Vivant: Bánk Téglás The Young Man: Dávid Matola • Tramp No 1: Soma Lőrinc Kerekes Tramp No 2: Márton Szabó • Tramp No 3: Szilárd Tuboly Ballet Pécs, Hungarian National Philharmonic Set: Éva Szendrényi • Costumes: Anikó Németh (Manier) • Production design: Zsolt László Bordos • Choreography: Balázs Vincze • Director: Csaba Káel Revival director: Sylvie Gábor • Conductor: Zoltán Kocsis The story of Bluebeard, a lonely and mysterious nobleman who keeps his former wives locked up, has found countless interpretations since it was first committed to writing by Charles Perrault, the 17th century French author of fairy tales. Of the many approaches, production director Csaba Káel was inspired by the one closest to the composer’s intentions, the psychological reading. „We try, in the spirit of Bartók, to represent how different qualities in the relationship of man and woman alternate or compete, while Judith seeks to get at the heart of the prince through his imagination.” This recording was made at a concert held at Müpa Budapest on 7 October 2016.
ART BELONGS TO EVERYONE A promise that no one will miss out this christmas.
