I would like to take this opportunity to welcome new families to Argyle, and to wish everyone a very Happy New Year! May this year bring you, and your family, great happiness, peace, prosperity, and good health. I thank you for your support and partnership in working together for your children.
The New Year is a wonderful time for families to discuss their own family values and ways of making a positive difference in the lives of others. Families are encouraged to seize the opportunity to discuss with their child about personal achievements and to set goals. We have been talking a lot every morning on the announcements about setting goals and working hard to persevere and achieve them.
Just when we thought things were getting back to some semblance of normalcy, COVID-19 reared its ugly head again. We are fortunate we’ve been able to stay open for the long haul and continue educating students. There are some places in the country where students are not able to come to school in person, so we are also encouraging students to be grateful for the education they are receiving and how hard our teachers and staff have been working to make things as “normal” as possible.
I am in awe every day at all of the many things teachers are doing to make sure the students are receiving the best instruction possible. The amount of time these heroes have put into their planning to ensure engaging, relevant, and meaningful learning is inspiring. To say this year is daunting is an understatement, but they all do it with a positive attitude, joy in their heart, and a smile on their face. I have a better appreciation for teachers and I’m with them every day. Please make sure your child’s teachers know how much you appreciate their efforts. I know a few kind words go a long way in providing that energy a teacher needs to get through one more set of papers to grade!
We were blessed with some wonderful events that took place before the winter break. Our Celebrations Around the World was a huge success! It is so important for students to learn about each other in order to develop an appreciation for our similarities and differences. That is what makes our country great. We had several countries represented where they shared their cultures and traditions with our students and parents. We had booths from Nigeria, Portugal, the Philippines, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and India. We learned about Diwali and Kwanzaa. We even had a fashion show that displayed the different types of ceremonial and everyday clothing of each country. Let’s not forget the great food that was there… delicious!! The fourth-grade choir performed some multicultural songs as well. We had a great turnout.
We are blessed to work in this great school district with our wonderful students and supportive parents. We will continue to work diligently with you, and your children, and invite you to call or email any time to talk with the teachers, or myself, to discuss your child’s individual needs if needed.
Have a blessed New Year!
