AMS Principal Update

A MESSAGE FROM AMS PRINCIPAL Mr. Gibson

As we move further into 2022 we can see glimpses of things returning to the way they were.

But we also see reminders that we still have some hurdles to overcome. Earlier this year we were able to reinstate our Veterans Day program. Gathering students and veterans into our gym was a site to see. As our choir sang the Star-Spangled Banner thoughts of our lives returning to normal ran through my head. Could we be rounding the corner in fighting this pandemic in an educational setting?

Another event we were able to bring back from a year of not having visitors on our campus was Career Day. We had numerous parents eager to share their work experiences with our middle school students. I felt more nostalgia as parent after parent signed in for the morning and volunteers moved down our hallways.

Argyle Nights was able to return for both the 7th grade and 6th-grade students. Seeing our 7th-grade students all dressed up at Robson Ranch really did warm my heart.

Looking further into the spring we have several activities that were canceled in either last year or both last year and in 2020. Dances will again occur. A Powder Puff football game is again on the calendar. All of these events give hope that there is a better future.

While we have hope for the future we must still be diligent in everything we do on campus. There was a point in the week in the middle of January when I wondered how we were going to make it as a staff from one day to the next. Teachers and staff were becoming ill to the point school was canceled…..creating a four-day weekend. This long weekend was a blessing in that we were able to take a pause and reset for the remainder of the year.

Reflecting back on what we have experienced the last two years I would say that we are in a “Better Normal” but not where we want to finish. We must continue to persevere.
