2021-2022

As the first semester of the 20212022 year concludes and we move from Fall 2021 to Spring 2022, I have several reflections as we had a different kind of Fall 2021 semester than we did in Fall 2020.
This immediate past fall, masks were optional for all students as well as staff and students. Quarantine decisions were returned to parents; information was provided at a classroom level when there was close contact. Seating at the stadium and in the gymnasiums was not restricted, and the campuses were opened to visitors such as volunteers, parents, and grandparents.
In January, the isolation period for COVID-19 for employees and then also for students was reduced from 10 to 5 days for those who were either asymptomatic or for those who were fever-free and had improved symptoms.
We have continued to experience challenges with securing substitutes to cover classes for teachers. This change in isolation time is returning teachers earlier and helping with coverage challenges.
A community-led bond and growth planning committee was formed in the fall to look at the facilities in the district as well as the projected enrollment and to make a recommendation to the Board.
The 24 individuals were from all areas of the district and worked tirelessly through numerous meetings that included an overview of the facilities in the district, tours of campuses, demographic projections, and financial adviser presentations. It was a true joy to watch as they discussed different ideas and worked to put together a recommendation for the Argyle ISD School Board. Leslee Shannon and Rich McDowell were excellent co-chairs and did a great job of leading the group. I appreciate the work of the co-chairs and the committee immensely. The School Board, at the January 18 regular meeting, called a bond for May 7, 2022.
The bond will be in three propositions and totals $267,885,000.
Proposition A includes new schools, infrastructure, safety updates, and buses.
Proposition B includes a stadium at Argyle High School in Canyon Falls.
Proposition C includes an indoor activity center at Argyle High School in Canyon Falls.
I will be making bond presentations in the community in the upcoming months.
I urge each one of you to make sure that you are registered to vote. That’s your first step in having your voice heard. Your vote is your voice, so please make sure you are prepared by registering.
AISD will also have an election for Places 6 and 7 for the School Board on May 7. There is information online or you may pick up a packet at the administration building. February 18 is the deadline to file for a place on the ballot.
The new elementary school in Canyon Falls will be officially named Argyle South Elementary. The school is on track to open in August 2022 with a capacity of 850 students. Elementary zones were recently approved and can be found on the district website at argyleisd.com.
