The visual artist and filmmaker Ammar al-Beik is a constant seeker for pictures. In his series „Lost Images“ he shows photographies, that he discovered at the local flea market in Damascus. He confronts these visual worlds from long gone times with autobiographical motives and - as a recent new element of the series – with photographies from the collection of the Neukoelln Museum. In this way he deals with the history and the people of Berlin, the city, that he has chosen as refuge from war and terror. From a distance, that often seems very near, his artworks reflect the myth of invulnerability and the inevitable loss of innocence.
