BOY KATINDIG Boy Katindig is one of the finest Asian jazz pianists around. Aside from being one of the prominent Filipino musicians in the US, he is well-known as the pioneer of Jazz Fusion in the Philippines in the 70’s-80’s, and, is one of the most awarded artists in Philippine Jazz, both as a performer and as composer. He received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Philippine Association of the Recording Industry (the equivalent of the Grammy’s in the Philippines) in recognition of his continuous exemplary and outstanding achievement as one of the pioneering artists in the propagation of original Filipino music and as an award-winning songwriter and producer. His most popular song that remains to be “revived” for decades is the Double-Platinum hit, “I’ll Always Stay In Love This Way,” from his album, “In My Inner Fantasies.”

Jannelle So is a Filipino American media pioneer, credited for creating the first and only locally-produced daily talk show for and about the Filipinos. She hosted and produced “Kababayan LA / Today,” successfully running it for almost 9 years before taking a break to start a family in 2014. Though away form the public eye for about 3 years, Jannelle has maintained her credibility and following, also her ability to gather features and tell stories in a compelling way. In July of this year, Jannelle launched her own weekly talk show on no less than the number 1 Filipino network in the world. “So Jannelle” - a weekly magazine and talk show airs on Sundays 3:55pm Pacific and 6:55pm Eastern on The Filipino Channel, with replays on the Lifestyle Network.

Ruben V. Nepales is an award-winning journalist based in Los Angeles. He is the first Filipino to be elected as a member of the prestigious Hollywood Foreign Press Association or HFPA, which votes on and presents the annual Golden Globe Awards. Ruben is also the first and only Filipino to be elected as chairman of the board of HFPA. Currently, he is on the board of directors of HFPA and the Filipino American Symphony Orchestra or FASO. This proud son of Pangasinan and alumnus of the University of Santo Tomas writes the popular column, “Only IN Hollywood,” for the Philippine Daily Inquirer, and various magazines, including Smile, Cebu Pacific Air’s inflight magazine.

Ms. Cecile Azarcon is considered one of the Philippines’ most prolific songwriters. Her numerous hit songs have been sung by a virtual “Who’s Who” in the Philippine music industry and her heartfelt ballads are now considered OPM (Original Pilipino Music) classic hits. Daughter of opera singer, voice teacher and concert pianist, Minda Azarcon, Cecile began composing at the age of six. At age 19, Cecile had her first major hit song, “LIFT UP YOUR HANDS”, originally recorded by Basil Valdez. She is the very First Filipina/Asian graduate and a recipient of the Certificate of Excellence of the award-winning Event Leadership Program of Temple University in Philadelphia PA who authored the Amazon-listed book EVENTS, a casebook in event management. A pioneer in Event Management education for the Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s Degree and Post-Baccalaureate Professional Programs, she is a Subject Matter Expert for Event Management at the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, a Consultant and Speaker for Event Management of Ascendens Asia and the Certification Director and a Board Member of the Philippine MICE Academy. Conferred as a Doctor Fellow by the Royal Institution Singapore, she is also a Senior Fellow of the Royal Institute of Management, Senior Fellow of the Royal Institute of Event Management and a Specialist of the Royal Institute of International Learning and Development.

Atty. Lou Tancinco is a San Francisco-based immigration lawyer, co-founder and partner at Tancinco Law Offices, with four offices in Northern and Southern California and a branch office in Manila serving thousands of Filipinos with their legal needs specifically in the fields of immigration, family, and business. She is a graduate of the University of the Philippines College of Law. An advocate for Filipino World War II Veterans, she founded the Veterans Equity Center, devoted to legal services and advocacy for veterans. Attorney Lou is a multiawarded television host and a writer committed to public education in the area of immigration law. She is producer and host of the weekly show Pusong Pinoy Sa Amerika on GMA PinoyTV, now on its 13th season, and has a regular short segment on immigration law, Pinoy Panawagan, on The Filipino Channel’s Balitang America for the last 10 years.

Marc Anthony Nicolas is an Emmy Award-winning television producer for “The Talk” on CBS. He began his entertainment career as an MTV casting producer and worked as a TV producer for supermodel, Tyra Banks on her hit series, “The Tyra Show.”

Van Gerard Dichoso, CPA is Founder of the Dichoso Group of Companies: Dichoso and Company, CPA, Inc. (a full-service, multi-office CPA firm), and Dichoso and Company, Inc. Dubbed as one of the most prominent CPAs of Filipino-American descent to Hollywood entertainment, he is also co-owner of River Rock Films, a TV and motion picture production studio that creates, develops and produces A-list Hollywood film. Van Gerard is a graduate of UCLA who has also written various professional articles, appeared in radio, TV, and invited as keynote or motivational speaker in various events. His support for the community and recipient of numerous awards have earned him some of these noted distinctions: “Asia’s CPA Superstar”, “An Icon in the Philippine-American Community”, and “ Twenty Most Outstanding Filipino-Americans in the US and Canada”.

Mike Guingona, an attorney in private practice, specializing in criminal defense, is the first Filipino American elected to the City Council of Daly City. The year 2005 marks his fourth term as Mayor of Daly City. He was first elected as a Daly City Council member in 1993 and became the youngest mayor at age 33 in 1995. He currently serves as a Council Member for the city of Daly City, California. He has been elected City Council member three times. He is also actively involved with the Sister City Committee and was instrumental in initiating the Daly City-Quezon City Sister City partnership. He is married to Jackie Castillejo.

JIM DEAR As a community leader that all people can count on, the Honorable Jim Dear has an impressive record of accomplishments during his fifteen years as a public official. A public servant in the truest form of the term. Serving as the Mayor of Carson for eleven years, he was able to dramatically alter the direction of the city. Known as the hardest working mayor in LA County, his vision for the future progressed due to his high integrity and dedication to the needs of his residents. In addition, former Mayor Dear understood the importance of public art, he is the creator and founder of the Carson International Sculpture Garden. The location of the only full statue of Dr. Jose P. Rizal in California, thanks to the support of Jim Dear. A true “Filipino at heart�, the Honorable Jim Dear.

Zeny Sabocor, a school teacher by profession, retired as a successful real estate broker after more than 30 years. She is the current chairman of the Board, and a past president and chairman of the Council of Leaders of United Bicolandia Los Angeles. As chairman of Kalayaan Incorporated, she was at the helm of the 2015 Philippine Independence Day Grand Ball. As a two-term president of Naga City USA, she was awarded with a City Plaque of Mayoral Recognition by the late Naga City Mayor Jess Robredo. She is also a director of Philippine Disaster Relief Organization and an executive officer of Jose P. Rizal Monument Movement. The Philippine Heritage Institute International honored Zeny with a President’s Award for “Profiles in Service, Pillars of Community”, while the FASGI presented her with the “American Dream Award”.

Chito Mandap is a Visionary Servant-Leader. He is not rich but looks rich because of his kindness and generosity. He is humble and shy but appears in the limelight because he always gives his best shot without expecting any return or reward. Above all, he sincerely believes that everything good in him is a gift from God. Mon‘chito’ G. Mandap’s crowning glory can be seen in the City of Carson – the first bigger-than life 7 1/2’ bronze statue of Dr. Jose P. Rizal mounted on a 7 1/2’ granite pedestal at the International Sculpture Garden of Heroes. It is the first such monument in California, unveiled the morning of September 29, 2012, culminating in an Appreciation Gala in the evening with Maria Serena Diokno, chairperson of the National Historic Commission of the Philippines as the guest speaker for both events. Chito led the Jose P. Rizal Monument Movement (JPRMM), a journey of more than 10 years to reach fruition.

Melette, a mother of 2 and a Grandma of 3, is very active in community service. She is a BS Chemistry graduate of the University of the Philippines and also the Assistant Treasurer of U.P. Alumni Association Greater Los Angeles. Melette is the Chairman of the City of Cerritos Economic Development Commission, and is a Retired Branch Chief of the Cypress/San Diego Enforcement Branch, Department of Toxic Substances Control, CA Environmental Protection Agency. She is a recipient of several community service, leadership, and ballroom dancing awards.

Virgil is a life member of the Kayumanggi Lions Club that presents Children’s Day annually in the city of Carson and has served as the Kayumanggi Lions Club’s president three times, in 1987-1988, 2003-2004 and 2014-2015 and was elected to serve as District 4-L3 Governor at the district’s 32nd Annual Convention held in Avalon, Catalina Island in 1995. Virgil was born and raised in Manila, Philippines and graduated with a degree of Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering from the Mapua institute of Technology.

Cely is a dynamic educator and leader who has been a recipient of numerous prestigious awards the latest being the trophy awarded to her in the Philippines last 2016 as a NATIONAL AWARDEE for being an Outstanding Educator and Community Leader, given by The National Center for Teacher Education. Among her other top accolades are: Ten Outstanding Women of the Nation, Hall of Fame, Outstanding FILAM in the USA, Outstanding Service Award, Mother of the Year. Cely authored the book “A Legacy”, which featured the long 54 years of memories of Class 1966. Cely’s has been a president and prime mover of many big organizations like United Batanguenos of Southern California, Inc., and the St. Rose of Lima Parish Filipino Community. Currently serving as the Secretary of the Philippine Independence Coordinating Council of Southern California, she is also the International Coordinator of PNU Class of 1966. Married to Cesar, she has four children and three grandchildren.

This graduate of the Manuel L. Quezon University is a member, Associate of the A.I.A. (American Institute of Architects), and the United Architects of the Philippines (UAP). He is currently the President of the Filipino Cultural Center - Filipino American community of Los Angeles, Inc. and President of Sons and Daughters of Paoay, USA. With his 40 plus years in combined experience in Architecture/ Engineering Design and Construction, this very amiable community leader has recently transformed the FACLA building into the now much admired Filipino Cultural Center.

Robbie Fabian is a fundraiser. He has held top positions as Director of Development or Chief Development Officer for major mainstream organizations like KQED, Inc.-- the public broadcasting station in the San Francisco Bay Area, Galef Institute/Rand Corporation--a think tank based in Los Angeles and the Asian Art Museum, the museum with the biggest collection of Asian Art outside of Asia. He was also president of ABS CBN Foundation International in Redwood City for 5 years. During his tenure at ABS CBN, he raised the highest amounts of international donations to the Philippines of any international Philippine charity. Today, Robbie has returned to his roots in the arts as head of development and fundraising for the Stockton Symphony.

Gerry Palon is a two-time President of the Filipino American Chamber of Commerce of Greater Los Angeles (2015 & 2017) and currently the Executive Vice President of the Federation of Philippine American Chambers of Commerce. He holds two (2) Masteral degrees with Distinction awards - MBA from the Asian Institute of Management (AIM) and Master in Accounting & Finance Management from the Keller School of Management of DeVry University. He took his Bachelor of Arts in Economics “Cum Laude” from the University of Santo Tomas. Currently, he works as a Staff (Sales) Manager of Western & Southern Life Insurance Co. Gerry came from a successful General Management career leading various top food service firms in the Philippines for almost 28 years. Gerry was instrumental in leading an international trade & investment delegation from the USA to the Philippines last Oct. 2016 and eventually forged various Memorandum of Understandings (MOUs) that led to joint venture trades between the US and Philippine companies garnering more than 500 million dollar worth of investments. Gerry is a major contributor to the successful undertaking of FPACC’s International Trade Conferences held in Scottsdale, Arizona resulting to tripling of MOU accomplishments last year. He has steered his FACCGLA team to be a dynamic contributor to the local economy by encouraging the creation and helping to set up more FilAm Chamber of Commerce chapters, facilitating the creation of effective platforms for Fil-Ams to start their own businesses, coordinating with local city government agencies in supporting start-ups and small businesses and all the accompanying support mechanisms a Chamber of Commerce could do for its constituents.

Marvin has served as board member in international school of theology-asia, christian resources for the blind, and is a council member of the local church. CREATIVE DIRECTION Bobit Guerrero’s talent was first recognized in the

advertising industry when he became the Art Director of the 3rd biggest advertising firm in the Philippines, AMA Advertising Marketing Associates. In 1982, Bobit moved to Los Angeles. And like so many Filipino immigrants in the graphics industry, Bobit struggled in a very challenging and competitive world of advertising. However, due to Bobit’s tenacity, creativeness, talent, and perseverance, he was able to assert himself and excelled. He eventually attained the position of Art Director for Pic N Save which is now Big Lots. Bobit is now the leading and a successful Creative & Art Director for Big 5, the biggest sporting goods chain in the West Coast with more than 500 stores. Prior to his corporate career, he helped and worked with various Filipino organizations and businesses. He also designed promotional materials for San Miguel Beer and concerts for Gary Valenciano and Martin Nievera.

FITNESS & MARTIAL ARTS George Tanon Edillor, born and raised in Virac, Catanduanes, is the Founder and Program Director of Energix Martial Arts and Fitness located in Chatsworth California, which is the biggest Filipino Owned Boxing Gym in the US. He is the creator and founder of FDI COMBAT (Filipino Defense International), a complete self-defense martial arts program for street survival. He is a 5-time US Hall of Fame Awardee. Next year, he will be also be awarded by the US Martial Arts Museum located in Burbank and will be launching the “George Edillor Day” to recognize his contribution to the Martial Arts World. George Edillor, called as Master George continues to excel in the Martial Arts Field to give honor to his beloved country, Philippines.

Henry Chen has been in financial services for over twenty years. He owns a Mortgage Broker Business since 1990. He is an outstanding professional and one very respected and reliable when you want to buy a home or any real estate property. He is viewed as an outstanding leader of those in the profession and of the profession itself. In 2006, Henry started the JIR Foundation with his wife. The foundation supports Pastors and Missionaries. His philantrophy is an inspiration to many.

Mul switched career in 1991 and enrolled in Computer Aided Design at the Fashion California Design College and graduated Magna Cum Laude. He was chosen to design a fashion-icon- inspired show by the Film of Greta Garbo for Kelly Preston. He was honored as Philippine Image Fashion Designer in April 2005, was awarded for his haute couture designs in June, 2009, “Designer of the Year� by The Beautiful Life Celebration in 2015, and a featured fashion designer in the Annual Rescues On the Runway and Miss Santa Clarita Scholarship Program from 2009 to 2011. In 2016, he won the Best Designer in LA at the Dysonna Theatrical Art and Fashion Show.

ALEXYS UNGRIA Alexys Ugria was Miss Tustin Teen USA 2016, where she competed in Miss CA Teen USA. She had also won Miss Actress and Miss Talent award in pageant competitions, and received 3rd runner up in both Miss Anaheim Teen USA and Miss Huntington Beach Teen USA. Alexys is a singer, college student at Cal State Long Beach, and a Lung Cancer Awareness advocate.

JESSICA CABANOS Jessica Cabanos is a 17-year- old girl raised in San Fernando Valley, CA. Named as Miss Young Cream Silk and Miss Young Maleva, Jessica excels in school and is a Student Council member. She is an Officer for her school’s Dance Company, where she was awarded with Best Performance and Best in Jazz. Trained in classical ballet, lyrical, modern, jazz, and hip hop, she enjoys playing instruments, modeling, and has done commercials for Hasbro and Mattel. She plans to become a Registered Nurse or a Nurse Practitioner and volunteers at her local Catholic church. Aside from being a weekly usher at the youth mass, she is a Summer Camp Counselor for children pre-k through 8th grade. She is an advocate for the prevention of bullying and does peer counseling.

Valerie Bonoan is a Miss Philippines USA Ambassador who is an advocate for young people who have dreams for the future but have no hope in achieving it. A Pepperdine University student, she spent a lot of her time in high school and college reaching out and mentoring young people to see their greatest potential. She is currently a student and the director of the worship department in Pepperdine University. Her continual goal is to be a light to whoever she encounters and wherever she sets her foot in.

The Champion of the recent 2017 Filams Got Talent and the 3rd Runner-Up for Binibining Pilipinas USA 2016, Shekinah is a senior at California State University of Long Beach majoring in Communication Studies geared towards Culture and Public Affairs with a minor in Entrepreneurship, and graduating this May. She is a proud sister of a Filipino-based women empowerment sorority known as Kappa Psi Epsilon, a former mentor and teacher for the Filipino Cultural School, and former marketing chair for Pilipino Cultural Night at California State University of Long Beach. Shekinah aspires to become an entrepreneur, host, actress, and motivational speaker.
