MESSAGE On behalf of the UP Alumni Association (UPAA), I am extending my warmest felicitations to the UP Alumni Association of Greater Los Angeles (UPAAGLA) on your Gala and Induction of the Board of Directors and Officers this 13 th of August 2017 at the Double Tree by Hilton-Whittier.

That UPAAGLA turned 19 years old this year is highly indicative of the continuously growing strength and stability of your chapter. I am highly confident that your new officers, led by President Mutch Cariño, who I know personally, are highly qualified for their jobs and capable of fulfilling the avowed UPAAGLA mission – that of binding together the UP alumni in your area in support of the Alma Mater.

I have the impression that you are eminently succeeding in further strengthening the esprit de corps among the UP alumni in the Greater Los Angeles area by holding activities like fun fairs, musical shows, reunions, and fellowships; and by continuing to support our faculty and deserving students through scholarships, professorial chairs, fund-raisers, and outreach programs.

These projects line up perfectly with our UPAA rallying cry, “All as ONE to keep U.P. No. 1!”

Your mother organization, the UPAA, is this year observing its 104th Anniversary, for which we have adopted the theme “Itanghal and Dangal” – in honor of the 2017 Jubilarians, alongside the year’s UPAA Distinguished Alumni Awardees. The theme echoes the inspiring lyrics of UP Naming Mahal: “Ating ipagdiwang, bulwagan ng dangal. Humayo’t itanghal, giting at tapang…”

The UPAAGLA, I am convinced, has been proudly living up to this exhortation.

I wish the officers and members of the UPAAGLA 2017-2019 Board of Directors a most auspicious Gala and Induction Ball, as well as great success in all your projects and endeavors in the next two years.

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE Dear Alumni, family and friends!

I am extremely humbled and honored to have been sworn in as President of the University of the Philippines Alumni Association of Greater Los Angeles.

Together with my dynamic team of officers and Board of Directors, I am very confident that we will be able to continue what the previous leaderships have started 19 years ago, which is to assist our beloved alma mater in its pursuit of academic excellence by raising funds in order to provide scholarships to very deserving students.

In the next two years, my team and I will do our best in organizing and creating events and activities, through strategic partnerships with various corporate sponsors, that will allow UPAAGLA to achieve greater success in its community outreach projects and, at the same time, raise more money for its scholarship fund. And one way, if not the best way, to accomplish this is -- to get more UP alumni involved.

Let us find these vibrant minds and leaders -- mga iskolar ng bayan to help UPAAGLA soar to greater heights. That is what I exactly did. I sought and found them.

12 of the 25 newly-inducted officers and board of directors, I personally invited to join UPAAGLA. The result: A dynamic team that will combine youth with good, old experience.

Tonight, I am+++++ truly grateful for everyone’s overwhelming show of support -- a sold-out capacity audience. Please give yourselves a big hand for being a part of this celebration.
