BROADCAST JOURNALISM Jannelle So is a Filipino American media pioneer, credited for creating the first and only locally-produced daily talk show for and about the Filipinos. She hosted and produced “Kababayan LA / Today,” successfully running it for almost 9 years before taking a break to start a family in 2014. Though away form the public eye for about 3 years, Jannelle has maintained her credibility and following, also her ability to gather features and tell stories in a compelling way. In July of this year, Jannelle launched her own weekly talk show on no less than the number 1 Filipino network in the world. “So Jannelle” - a weekly magazine and talk show airs on Sundays 3:55pm Pacific and 6:55pm Eastern on The Filipino Channel, with replays on the Lifestyle Network.

Venus Macias Marin is a fulltime mother of 4 and a housewife who also works fulltime at the Veterans Hospital as a family nurse practitioner. She takes pride of her job serving the veterans who once served our country. She loves to travel and loves to try different cuisine from other places. Her family owns the first musubi joint in Orange County called Musubi Monster located in the city of Orange.

Janet Susan R. Nepales is an award-winning journalist who is the first and only Filipina member of the prestigious Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) that produces the annual Golden Globe awards. Recently, Janet was elected as the first Filipino Executive Secretary of the HFPA for the year 2017-2018. A winner of the Los Angeles Press Club’s Best News Article-Foreign Correspondents/Reporters Award, She has a weekly column in Manila Bulletin, is the Hollywood correspondent of GMA-7 TV and co-hosts the segment “So Hollywood” at The Filipino Channel. Janet is a Journalism cum laude graduate of UST, who was recognized by the Filipina Women’s Network (FWN) as one of the “100 Most Influential Filipino Women in the U.S.” in 2012 and one of the “100 Most Influential Filipino Women in the World” in 2013. She is a co-author of the first FWN book entitled “DISRUPT: Filipina Women: Proud. Loud. Leading Without A Doubt.
Mariflor is a loving wife and a doting mother of three wonderful children who maintains a private practice in Chula Vista for over a decade. Born in the Philippines and getting her dental degree at the Centro Escolar University in Manila, she aspires to continue serving her community and provide dental care especially to the indigent children in her native homeland. She is an active member of the San Diego Dental Society, the California Dental Association, the American Dental Association and the Academy of General Dentistry.

Lois Pagaspas Klavir has an accomplished career in commercial banking for 17 years. She started her banking career at Philippine National Bank and is currently working as a Business Relationship Manager at Wells Fargo Bank serving companies with $5 to $50 million in revenues. Lois was born in Manila with roots from Batangas and Nueva Ecija. She graduated at the University of Santo Tomas with an Economics degree and achieved her MBA from Ateneo Graduate School of Business. Lois is passionate about the Filipino American Chamber of Commerce Greater LA serving as its Board Member by connecting the Fil-Am small businesses and women in business achieve financial success.
Geneva Mendoza Cruz is an award-winning Filipina singer and actress. She comes from the famous Cruz clan, being one of Tirso Cruz, Sr.’s great granddaughters, which include celebrities like Tirso Cruz III, Sunshine Cruz, Sheryl Cruz, and Donna Cruz. Geneva Cruz began her career in 1989 as one of the lead singers of the popular group Smokey Mountain, whose album went double platinum. She was also the very first Grand Prize winner (and the youngest) of “The Voice of Asia” in Alma-Ata, Kazakhstan, Russia in 1992. Her first solo album, I Like You, went double platinum and produced several hit singles, including “Anak ng Pasig” which was chosen as Best Pop Song by the 1992 Catholic Mass Media Awards. She’s an animal rights activist and a proud single mother of 21 year old son Heaven and 3 year old daughter London.

Camille is a very successful entrepreneur as proven by her numerous and very varied business ventures. She is the co-founder of L’Aura Wellness with Dr John Pinches. It is a medical spa for body and facial contouring, invasive and non invasive. She is also the co founder of Absolute Hospice Palliative Care located in Bellflower. Camille is also the Owner of Helping Hand Global Services Provider and Aura Home Care, plus an Owner/Partner of Tender Loving Care. But, most importantly, she adds that the core of her well-being is God and she loves to be of help to everybody in need.
Melany was born and raised in the Philippines and graduated from De La Salle University with a degree in Business Administration. A former Rustan’s Young VIP Model in the Philippines, she is currently a Regional Diversity Consultant for Southern California Kaiser Permanente and supports all the medical centers in Southern California. As part of her role, she takes the lead on all regulatory audits for Cultural and Linguistic Services. She also creates various reports and provides data analysis for all the facilities of Kaiser Permanente in Southern California. She has been with Kaiser for 19 years.

She has showcased her Zimbabwe Photo Exhibit in New York in December 2016. Very active in the Filipino community, Jhenny is the Executive Secretary of the Filipino American Press Club of California, Secretary of GK e-Rotary Club District 3780, as well as a Member of Filipino American Chamber of Commerce of Orange County, Asian Business Association Orange County, Filipino American Creative Talent Network and Japan America Society as she is fluent in japanese language. Veda Banez is a believer of love and life who is a highly respected, well-known director and choreographer who sees the world in a song and dance production number. As early as 15 years of age, she has worked with most schools and theater groups. Veda is a very proud Theresian and UP alumni who held the position of dance director and theater director of the Manila Metropolitan Theater since the 80s. This eventually led her to get into the childcare business where she excelled and became a childcare advocate who served as Secretary of Orange County Child Care Association for a few years. Later on, she started her elderly home care business where she found her love for the elderly. She is now active in Hospice and Home Health Administration and Consultation. She is a proud advocate of Hospice Care and she goes to say: There is so much beauty towards end of life and it is so rewarding to walk with them through it.
Jo Ann Kyle is the General Manager for Goldilocks USA. Prior to Goldilocks, she was the Managing Director of ABS-CBN Foundation International where she successfully partnered with the Filipino-American Community to help the different advocacies including those that were affected by typhoon Yolanda. She is known to be a passionate and relentless corporate leader, a marketing change agent and a business driver. Her background in marketing includes managing multiple brands in a multi billion dollar pharmaceutical company. Agnes Santos-Claveria is a Home Mortgage expert with a combined experience in mortgage lending and product management for over 20 years. She graduated Cum Laude, with a degree in BS Economics from UST; earned her MBA in Marketing with honors from Argosy University in Orange County; and also took some units in Master of Arts in Teaching from the University of Southern California. She was an Assistant Vice President for Product Management at Metronank. Here in the U.S., she continued her passion of helping people achieve their dream of homeownership where she has helped over 500 families to this date, about 80% of these families are Fil-Ams. Agnes has a dedicated heart to serve prospective and existing homeowners and a strong resolve to educate and hold hands with clients in their home buying journey.
Elna Villaflor is a high achiever since her younger years. She graduated with a degree in Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering and was a Systems Analyst in Manila, in Los Angeles, Elna became a Controller / Office Manager which got her associated with Kaiser Permanente and Blue Cross of California. This led her to her business in assisted living for the elderly. Compassionate and loving by nature, she now operates four beautiful communities. For 17 years, Thelma was the Controller of the British Neurological Research Trust in Beverly Hills and a former Vice President for 6 years of the Federation of Philippine American Chambers of Commerce
Mary Grace Barrios is a mother of 4 daughters and a very active community, political and union leader. She was elected Nogales High School Site Council Member in 1993 and served for more than 10 years until she was appointed West Covina Community Services Commissioner. She was elected as the first Filipino American Chair of West Covina Community Services Commission. She is presently a member of PALAD, Pilipino American Los Angeles Democrats, LA County Democratic Party Alternate Delegate and California Democratic Party State Delegate. She is also the VP for Public Affairs for Filipino American Chambers of Commerce, San Gabriel Valley. She is Organizer of the Pilipino Team and was recently elected LA County Region Chapter Delegate to the Executive Board of her SEIU Local 2015 Union.

Reena has worked in film, alongside, James Franco and Norman Reedus and was in the Hit Teen Nickelodeon TV series “iCarly”. She plays in the online TV series, “Lovers and Friends LA.” Reena is involved with the script development for the scifi-drama “Raging Sun”. In the art world, she has had a solo art show at Stone Malone Gallery on Melrose Avenue, had pop up art shows all over LA and in Art Basel Miami and Paris. She has been published in Push Magazines’ “Women Behind LA’s Coolest Street Art Scene.” Reena has performed her single “WIFI” and is getting ready to launch her EP. Therese Masangcay is the Grand Champion of Fil-Ams Got Talent 2016. She is a junior at Valencia High School and her achievements in music have been consistent. In 2013, she was cast as Elphaba in WICKED and as Maria in WEST SIDE STORY. In 2015, Therese performed as a front act for One Magical Night with John Ford Coley and FASO goes POPS. In 2016, she was awarded Outstanding Female Performer and in early 2017, she was an Excellence in Entertainment honoree at the Spotlight Awards..

She is pursuing a course in Medicine when she enters college in 2018. She has a wide range of interest which includes sports and music.

Maaikee Kiyoe (Muh-EYE-key Key-YOH-eh) is 20 yrs old, and is one of the top 38 graduates of the University of California Irvine. She finished Biomedical Engineering at the Henry Samueli School of Engineering in UC Irvine. She currently works as a Process Engineer at a leading medical device company in Southern California. Serving her community is a priority, and Maaikee has helped raise money for the Children’s Miracle Network, held donation drives for the Midnight Mission in LA, and continues to promote her personal platform “Plant the Seed: Empowering Young Women through S.T.E.M - Science, Technology, Engineering , and Mathematics.” She is honored to receive this award, and hopes to raise awareness for her platform through this recognition.

Nicole Guerrero is a 23 year old from San Jose, California. She graduated from San Jose State University with a Business Marketing Degree and was the former Global Marketing Coordinator for OPI Products Inc. Nicole is an active volleyball player, art enthusiast, baking fanatic, comic book lover, fashion guru, fitness addict, and world traveler. In her spare time she also enjoys volunteering at the animal shelter and has devoted over 300 hours working with kids. Nicole wants to be an advocate for single parent families, after school youth programs, and suicide prevention. She wants to encourage the next generation to fight for what they believe in and to follow their dreams by being brave, ambitious, and to believe in themselves. Her role model Jeannie Mai once told her, “There will always be somebody who doesn’t see your worth… Don’t let it be you.”
Jazlynn Dizon is 16 years old and is currently a senior at Pomona Catholic, an all Girls High School. This statuesque beauty was crowned Miss Young Philippines USA 2017 and Miss Young Best in Swimsuit 2017. Jazlynn has modeled for Fashion for a Cause, Danny Nguyen Couture, Carl Andrada, Lou Razon, Michelle Ku, and OC Fashion Week 2017. She wants to finish her education to become a Nurse Practitioner while succeeding in modeling and beauty pageants.

Valerie Bonoan is a Miss Philippines USA Ambassador who is an advocate for young people who have dreams for the future but have no hope in achieving it. A Pepperdine University student, she spent a lot of her time in high school and college reaching out and mentoring young people to see their greatest potential. She is currently a student and the director of the worship department in Pepperdine University. Her continual goal is to be a light to whoever she encounters and wherever she sets her foot in.
Sariah Shaver is a 17 year-old from San Bernarno, California. She is a Filipina American violinist, an environmentalist, and an aspiring model. She recently competed in the Miss Philippines USA pageant, winning Most Talented and Most Photogenic. Sariah has interests in modeling, acting, and music, as they all correlate with her personality. She also stands for the equal rights of the minority communities, environmental health, and the welfare of less fortunate citizens in our society.

As one of the youngest candidates of Miss Philippines USA 2017, she was able to succeed as she was chosen to be one of the Top 12 Finalists.
Kristine Macalutas is a compassionate registered nurse by profession & recognized internationally with the DAISY Award, voted by her patients & colleagues. In addition, she has won the title of Miss Philippines USA Ambassador 2017 & Miss Maleva 2017. She is enhancing her knowledge at California State University of Fullerton by obtaining her Bachelor’s in Science of Nursing. Kristine is most passionate about helping others in any way that she can. Kristine will harness her skills and plans to take part on a medical mission to the Philippines.

Last July, she was named as Miss Young Philippines Filipinotown 2017 and Miss Congeniality in the Miss Young Philippines USA beauty pageant. Alyssa Sandra Guevara is a 17 year old who resides in Long Beach and studies at Millikan High School. As the president of Millikan HS Key Club, she encourages others to join and help volunteer whether it’s serving our community, spreading awareness, and raising funds for a variety of charities. Alyssa was recently named Miss Young Philippines Ambassador 2017. She’s indeed a beauty with leadership and an advocate of volunteerism.

Jessica Cabanos is a 17-year- old girl raised in San Fernando Valley, CA. Named as Miss Young Cream Silk and Miss Young Maleva, Jessica excels in school and is a Student Council member. She is an Officer for her school’s Dance Company, where she was awarded with Best Performance and Best in Jazz. Trained in classical ballet, lyrical, modern, jazz, and hip hop, she enjoys playing instruments, modeling, and has done commercials for Hasbro and Mattel. She plans to become a Registered Nurse or a Nurse Practitioner and volunteers at her local Catholic church. Aside from being a weekly usher at the youth mass, she is a Summer Camp Counselor for children pre-k through 8th grade. She is an advocate for the prevention of bullying and does peer counseling.
Vanessa or Bimbim, as most of her friends fondly call her, is a former fashion model in print and on the ramp, both in the United States and the Philippines. Now, this curvaceous and beautiful lady has involved herself in various business ventures. Still very young at 32 and happily married, Bimbim used to own home health agencies based in LA and Las Vegas. Now she is fully focused as the current owner of Nirvana Care Hospice and Sondionz Nutripharma. She is also a business partner at Maleva Skin Care & Spa - a perfect bit for this gorgeous lady.
