From the Desk of the Executive Director

PLAY. CREATE. LEARN.

The Community House In 2021 we celebrated a remarkable 80-year history that started when engaged and committed neighbors wanted a place for families to gather for activities. The world has changed since 1941 and The Community House has changed with it but our mission is the same; enriching the lives of the communities we serve through recreation, the arts, community activities and counseling services. We have so many wonderful activities planned in 2022 for all ages in your family but many don’t know also provide programming to the under resourced Willowbrook Corner neighborhood. As an unincorporated, low income neighborhood, they do not have the same opportunities for kids to participate in theater, dance, basketball, flag football or STEM classes. With your help, we can give these families the same feeling you get when you watch your son or daughter play Jodie Harrison Basketball, compete in a chess tournament, or sing on stage. Your gift allows us to focus our social impact efforts on providing equitable access to day care, recreation and arts programming, and vital counseling services to our neighbors in need. All parents want the same things for their families and our work to provide opportunities for the Willowbrook Corner neighborhood is at the heart of our mission. In 2022 we invite you to play, create, and learn with your friends and neighbors. We have entertainment too-the hilarious Community Revue is back in March to bring their light hearted take on life in Hinsdale. We could all use a laugh and there is nothing more entertaining than seeing your friends and neighbors sing, dance, and perform an original musical comedy. Community Revue is warming up the newly dedicated Dick Johnson Stage for when Stage Door Fine Arts brings a cast of talented young performers on stage for All Shook Up and Disney’s Descendants the Musical.

We are planning for a bright and fun filled 2022 and hope to see you at our house!

LYARTS PRESCHOOL

Music Together with Tiny Toes Music

Each week, babies, toddlers, preschoolers, and the grownups who love them gather for 45 minutes of fun-filled family music time with Tiny Toes Music. Instructors will lead you and the other families in music activities ranging from lullabies to full-on jam sessions (with child-friendly instruments, of course!). In Music Together's mixed age classes, everyone participates at their own levels: babies vocalize, listen and observe; toddlers play and experiment; and preschoolers build confidences as they emerge as classroom leaders! Infant siblings under 9 months attend for free and any caregiver (parent, nanny, or grandparent) can participate in this. Sibling discount available online & in person. • Policies will continue to be updated and adjusted according to current local guidelines • Bring a blanket or yoga mat from home to serve as your "home base." Grownups please check in with your neighbors if your child wanders and bring them back to your area as needed. • No refunds or credits after the first day of class • April and May classes will be outdoors if weather allows. If the forecast looks like it may be too cold, hot, wet, and/or humid to be outdoors comfortably, classes will be held indoors. • Bring your instruments from home: egg shakers, maracas, sticks, scarves, jingle bells, tambourine or even a drum

LyArts Broadway Kids Rock Stars

This rockin' NEW CLASS will have your child acting, singing and dancing to hits of the 70's, 80's, 90's and Today! Each week the theme of your child's class revolves around a different Rock 'n' Roll Band or performer including improvisation, acting games, singing, and dance moves directly related to the hit songs from that band. There will also be exploration of musical skills like rhythm, dynamics and more!
