Volunteer Camp

Ages: 11-15 years old

Volunteer Camp is being offered for 4 weeks; participants (entering 7th through 9th grades in the Fall) may sign up for the entire 4 week camp or individual weeks. Following an orientation to volunteering, campers will travel by van from The Community House to a different location each morning. Participants will receive a t-shirt and pizza lunch on Thursday of each week. Please wear closed toe shoes. Schedules can be found on our registration site.

Volunteer Camp for Animal Lovers

Ages: 11-15 years old

This Volunteer Camp is for cat lovers!

Following an orientation to volunteering, campers will travel by van from The Community House to Cat Guardians in Lombard, IL. During their time at this no-kill, cageless cat shelter, campers will have the opportunity to socialize with the cats and partake in fun projects that the shelter has prepared for them! Participants will receive a t-shirt and pizza lunch on Thursday following the end of the camp. Parental waiver is required.

Kids Safe at Home

Ages: 5-10 years old

This class is for the child who stays by himself/herself occasionally, cares for younger siblings for a short period of times or is just ready to accept the responsibility. This course teaches children the importance of behaving responsibly and how to handle themselves when confronted with a challenge, such as answering the telephone or the door when parents are away. Topics covered include: safety in the home, proper use of keys, what to do in case of an emergency, how to respond to strangers and general house rules. Fee includes workbook. Disclaimer: This course does NOT endorse children being home alone; that responsibility lies with the parents. This course simply prepares children to be safe and careful when parents are not immediately available.

First Aid for Kids

Ages: 5-10 years old

This American Red Cross course teaches children introductory first aid skills focusing on recognizing an emergency, calling 911, dealing with cuts, burns, broken bones, poisoning, choking and exploring contents of a first aid kit. Hands-on activities provided for additional reinforcement. Fee includes workbook.

Babysitters Certification

Ages: 11-15 years old

Get the knowledge, skill and confidence you need to care for infants and school-age children. This training will help participants develop skills in leadership and professionalism; safety and safe play; and first aid. The course will combine video, activities, hands-on skills training and discussion for a complete learning experience. Please bring a sack lunch. To receive certification, participants must be present for the entirety of the class.

The Art of Relaxation

Ages: 5-12 years old

Have a blast as we explore the art of relaxation with an introduction to yoga, healthy eating, spa STEM activities, art projects, and so much more! Each week we’ll make a healthy snack and we’ll learn all about mindfulness with fun hands-on activities. Learn the secrets of relaxing your body and mind and you’ll be able to apply these anywhere you are- in school, at home, or in a test!
