We know it's easy to feel stuck or overwhelmed, but whatever you're going through, you don't need to do it alone. Our therapists at The Counseling Center are committed to helping you or your child, providing support and strategies to tackle whatever struggles you may be facing.

Willowbrook Corner

Our Willobrook Corner Youth Learning Program offers after school programs that provide educational/study time and a variety of activities, a summer learning program, and other programs and support for parents.

We have plenty of programs for kids: sports camps and leagues, day camps, afterschool programming, theatrical opportunities, and more!

Ly Hotchkin Art Program

Experience the joy of discovery and creation that comes through all expressions of art. We offer opportunities for all ages!

Theater

Stage Door, our resident theater company, provides a theatrical outlet for children of all ages through stunning performances. They also offer theater classes through out Ly Arts Program.

Adult Programming

Our active adults program offers a variety of card groups, exercise classes and interest groups, in addition to our day trips and special in-house events. Come by yourself or bring a friend!

Facility Rental

With rooms that can seat from 10 to 300 people, a convenient and easily accessible location with plenty of off-street parking, and an atmosphere that can suit either a casual or formal event, The Community House is the perfect venue for your next event.

Volunteering

Volunteer opportunities are available for students, professionals, retirees, stay-at-home parents and families. We offer something for everyone!

As a kid, I spent summers soaking up the sun at Lion’s Club Pool, taking a family road trip, and enjoying many summer camps and programs at my local park district. As the fourth of five children, summer was a well-rehearsed recipe of structured programming sprinkled with lazy afternoons that seemed to last forever. It was a magical time filled with so many memories. As an adult, summer flies by in the blink of an eye and now my own kids are enjoying the fun, although my parents did not have to battle with smartphones.

At The Community House, we want YOUR summer to be filled with those special moments and long-lasting memories. Our creative and talented staff has listened to your input and created this recipe book of opportunities for kids, families, adults, and seniors to have a place to engage, to play and to learn, sometimes for just an hour, sometimes for the entire day, and for some the whole summer long. We know kids can grow and learn so much when they can experience unstructured time during summer break, and we believe that life is enhanced by the joy of having unique, shared experiences as a community. Whether it is our signature full-day summer camp, the arts camp series, more than a dozen different sports, or learning a skill (chess, drawing, dance, baking, relaxation, jewelry design, babysitter certification, and so much more)-we know there is something for your family to enjoy. K.E.A.P. is an extension of the District 181 Half Day Kindergarten Program that will be held daily (M-F) throughout the school year at The Community House.

Spy - Fingerprint science, a secret message decoder and more

Star Wars - Erupting death stars, marshmallow shooters and a pool noodle light saber

Art Party

Magic - Let us entertain and captivate your children in a unique blend of comedy and magic! The birthday boy/girl gets to participate throughout the show and will be suspended in midair, a perfect photo opportunity! All parties include a magic workshop where participants learn six magic tricks to keep and take home!

Ages: 5 years old and up Instructor Gabrielle Tufano leads a 90 minute art project for up to 15 kids customized to your party. All in our art studio on Saturday afternoons contingent on availability of space. Room available for two hours (plus setup and breakdown time). Must have at least two weeks notice to reserve.

Summer Day Camp is the perfect opportunity for your child to create memories and safely enjoy time with their peers.  Summer Day camp offers a variety of creative learning experiences including sports, drama, and environmental awareness to name a few!  Summer Day Camp is broken up into weekly themes; the field trip, activities and projects for that week relate to the theme.  We cannot wait to see you this summer!

Lunch

Buddies

Lunch buddies is a program designed for participants to have a safe, supervised place to eat their lunch while waiting for their next camp to start. It will be supervised by one of the Summer Camp counselors. Our staff will pick your child up from their camp at 12:00pm and drop your child off at 1:00pm to their next camp. Please send a peanut-free lunch with your child. This is only offered to participants who attend the Summer Programs at The Community House. Lunch Buddies will not meet on Wednesdays due to being off-site for field trips.

GUPPIES Kiddie Camp

Age: Preschool (3-6 years)

Does your child need something fun and educational to do over the summer? If so, then the “Guppies” Kiddie Camp is a great place for your child! Kiddie Camp will offer your child an exciting first camp experience. Each week, campers will experience fun creative activities including: sports, drama, music, crafts, natures, and games all centered around a weekly theme. Children must be the appropriate age by the first day of the session they are registered to attend. All children who attend the “Guppies” Kiddie Camp must be potty trained! All participants must bring their lunch or a snack with them every day.

Art of Asia, Pop Art, and Renaissance

Ages: 6-13 years old

Join us for an art experience through major artistic movements and cultural traditions. It’s handmade fun in a #screenfree zone up in our Art Studio. Three themed running twice this summer. Take one or two or all. Camps include painting, sculpture, and mixed media projects of all sorts inspired by The Art of Asia, Pop Art, and The Renaissance.

Looking for a screen time alternative this Summer? Come make something with us. Work with a different set of materials each day of the Open Studio. Follow along with the project of the day. Or make your own. The Art Studio is all yours. Students encouraged to bring oversized tshirts to cover their clothes. We do have aprons and coverings available. But we inevitably make a mess and recommend kids wear something that can stand to get a little dirty.

Watercolor Camp: Global Expedition

Ages: 7-13 years old

Ready to explore, ex periment and go on an expedition? Love to travel and paint as well? Learn epic wa tercolor techniques and complete a global passport in this summer’s Global Watercolor Expedition. Students will learn diverse wa tercolor techniques and complete projects inspired by regions around the world such as a California sunset, rainforest bridge, a Hawaiian quilt and much more. The week would not be a successful trip without a souvenir art passport, complete with stamps!

Fiber Art Camp

Ages: 7-13 years old

Love to play with textures and explore new art media, Fiber Art Camp is for you! Take a deep dive into the fun and creative world of Fiber Art — dyeing silk, building a homemade loom, weaving, making fiber art paintings and much more! We’ll discover the boundless potential of the medium as we explore traditional crafts and make connections to contemporary art. Students will make and bring home fun projects including a homemade loom!

Animation Camp

Ages: 8-16 years old

Kids explore the history, technology and techniques of this magical, illusory art form. Make your own stories one frame at a time. Tech included. Or kids can bring their own if they prefer. Campers encouraged to work in teams.

Drawing From Life Camp

Ages: 8 years old and up

Sharpen up your pencils and start the Summer off right. Gabrille Tufano (Ms. Gabby) gives you the foundational skills to take your work to the next level. Learn to ‘see? and draw like a pro in this super fun week-long intensive. Take it for one week or both. Returning students will get newer, more challenging exercises and projects.

Music Production Camp

Ages: 8 years old and up

Obsessed with pop, rock or hip-hop music? Ever wonder what goes into making the catchiest songs you hear on the radio? Composer and musician, Jon Kostal (of Uncle Jon’s Music, The Flat Cats and more) takes you through the production process layer by layer. Collaborate on making and recording your very own songs. You don’t even need to know how to play and instrument. Just bring your curiosity and love of music. And walk away with the makings for your first album.

RPG Camp

Ages: 10 years old and up

Role Playing Games (RPGs) encourage teamwork, exercise imagination, and help make new friends for life. Have you watched Stranger Things and wondered what D&D (Dungeons & Dragons) was all about? Challenge yourself and fight your own “Demogorgon” here! We’ll supply you with your very own polyhedral dice. CREATE, DRAW and BUILD your own characters. WRITE your own stories and backgrounds then ACT out your character by dressing up (if your heart desires) and FIGHT the BBEG (Big Bad Evil Guy) at the conclusion of a quest. Join us for one week or two.

Stage Door Musical Theater Acting Camp

For one week, campers will develop a show, complete with song, dance, solo work, and ensemble performance. The week will focus on famous shows, actors, and composers. The final performance will include numbers from Broadway’s favorites!

STEAM Camp

Ages: 7-13 years old

STEM + Art = STEAM! When kids combine STEM and art, they can really explore their creative side from painting to sculptures! Students will discover how science is all about exploring the beauty of the world, how technology requires thoughtful design and artistic presentations to appeal to users, and engineering is all about developing beautiful, functional designs. Students will engage in a totally fun learning experience and bring home many exciting creations including a robot that creates art!

Get your hands on paper mache and all kinds of clay. Build an object from the ground up. From beautiful, practical items like bowls and vases to wild sculptures made of unconventional materials. The possibilities are endless.

Love fashion? Want to design and create your own clothing? Students will learn how to oper ate a sewing machine, sew garments from scratch, and see their designs come to life! Flag Football League

Starting in August, your football fan can get the total football experience without the contact. Flag football is a sport where the emphasis is safety, speed, agility, teamwork, and precision. It is the perfect forum for players who love playing football, are just starting out or do not want to get into pads just yet. The Community House Flag Football League provides jerseys and flag sets to all players! The Recreation Supervisor will determine team selection. All efforts will be made to place players with schoolmates, however, it is not guaranteed. Team placement or coach requests are not guaranteed.

PRACTICES: Earliest practice begins is August 28 with two practices per week before games begin then one practice per week. Practice days, times, and location are chosen by volunteer coaches.

GAMES: Games begin September 9 & 10. Games may go into early November with weather cancellations. 1st/2nd and 3rd/4th graders play on Saturdays. 5th/6th and 7th/8th graders play on Sundays. Games start every hour on the hour. Schedules will be released by the end of the day Friday, August 25.

It’s a Beautiful Book Club

Join us for our monthly book club lead by retired teacher Margaret Gross. Margaret is a huge lover of books and reads for school kids weekly as well as enjoying regular novels on her own. PMA: Women’s Self-Defense Workshop

Join us as Premiere Martial Arts Sensei Harvey Marshall leads us in a women’s self-defense workshops made to educate & demonstrate the benefits of self-defense. This workshop will teach and excite participants about the prospect of learning to defend themselves through ongoing training. The workshop will alter between sittings of educational lectures and getting up and moving with self-defense drills and techniques.

Though this is a serious topic, we will keep some of the training light-hearted and fun. The workshop should be approximately 90 minutes and should be a good blend of self-defense awareness, prevention, and physical hands-on technique.

Stroller Strides® by F4M

Stroller Strides® is a functional, total-body conditioning workout designed for moms with kids in tow. Each 60-minute workout consists of strength training, cardio and core restoration, all while entertaining little ones with songs, activities and fun! Each Stroller Strides instructor is skilled to meet you where you are mentally and physically. You’ll leave class feeling connected, successful, and energized! No more mama guilt! This class is all about self-care in a supportive and encouraging environment.

Gentle Yoga

Ages: 18 years old and up

Join the wonderful Rebecca Lorkiewicz and take a slower paced class, ideal for all ages, beginners, and those recovering from illness or injury. Poses will focus on flexibility and strength and can be modified to make class suitable for everybody. Breath work and poses will help increase relaxation and overall well-being. A chair will be used during class to allow for more support during balance postures and modification options. Please bring a mat and a towel.

SAFE (Supported Ageless Fitness Exercise)

Join us for a S.A.F.E. class, formally Sit & Get Fit. Staying mentally, socially, and physically active is the key to maintaining quality of life! This is a seat based class that doesn’t lack intensity of fun. S.A.F.E. is for participants for every ability. We stay active & mobile but remain gentle on the body! Work on increasing range of motion, circulation, flexibility, balance, and strength with easy-to-follow moves. We sometimes use light weights or toning bands! Pilates & Barre Mash up

Toning, flexibility, better posture, increased core strength and the body/mind connection are achieved through our Mat Mash-Up work. A variety of equipment adds interest and “mashes-up” the workout so class is always different. Our classes blend the best of ballet, strength, yoga and Pilates, providing an exciting and effective class for all fitness levels. Hit the barre and see results! Please bring a mat to each class. This is a virtual zoom class with Rebecca Lorkiewicz. This class is designed primarily for those with limited mobility. By modifying classic yoga exercises to easy standing poses and low impact work in a chair, students will have the chance to improve strength and flexibility in a way that is approachable and fun! No materials or prior experience required. Please register online or at The Community House. If you were looking for an excuse to work out - here it is!! Hustle Fitness comes on-site with us to give you this oneof-a-kind workout experience while you support your favorite place to gather, grow and get fit! All proceeds go to support our open to all programming! This 35 minute Metabolic Strength and Conditioning class is a mix of strength training exercises and cardio conditioning. Class can be individualized and tailored to each person in attendance. We focus on breaking down these exercises so we can focus on form and muscular endurance. This is a great session for beginners and intermediates looking to learn, lean, tone, or strengthen or as they say “level-up”. Conditioning class will be followed by a 20-minute myofascial roller recovery session as you learn the benefits of roller recovery with Cathy McAndrews. Stay after the class for refreshments and ask a Hustle expert or our resident expert Cathy McAndrews for tips or just chat with other local fitness friends! Deadline for Registration is one week before event.

Yoga for Strength & Stability

This class is designed to mindfully build strength, flexibility, and balance to restore healthy movement patterns in the body. Balancing longer held yoga poses to build muscular endurance with an increased number of reps to build strength, this class cultivates an adaptable yoga practice that sup ports your ability to participate more fully in your daily life. Props will be used to support and deepen your practice. Open to all levels. Modifications will be provided, and focus placed on advancing slowly and safely to support each individual’s abilities. Please bring a yoga mat to each class. Stop by the front desk to sign-in when you arrive! If you purchase a punch card online stop by the front desk to let them know to create your card. Registration Information

Most programs offer online registration at www.thecommunityhouse.org, click the “REGISTER” button on the top right. Registration can also be accepted at the registration desk (see page 3 for location and hours).

Refund Policy

Refunds must be requested more than 3 business days prior to the activity start date. We are unable to offer refunds for classes within 3 days of the start or for classes that have already started. All refunds will be charged a $10 precessing fee per activity. Customers may have their refund processed as an in-house credit and use the credit for any program offered by The Community House. In house credits are charged a $5 processing fee, are non-refundable and are available for use for up to one year after issue date. If The Community House cancels an individual class during a session, a make-up class will be scheduled. We are unable to offer refunds for Memberships purchased. Once approved, refunds are processed in the format of the original payment within 21 days. Events or programs that require a ticket purchase are not eligible for refunds. Summer Day Camp and Kiddie Camp participants must request a refund 48 business hours in advance of the start of the program taking place. These programs will not offer refunds for days that have already occurred. Transfers will not be granted for these programs but customers may request an in-house credit for use for the program of their choice. It may take up to 3 business days from the request for in-house credit for the credit to be available for use.

Transfer Policy

Participants in some classes may request to transfer from one class to another. Not all classes allow transfers. A $5 transfer fee must be paid before the transfer is processed.

Photo/Video Policy

The Community House staff regularly photographs or videotapes participants in programs and at events. These photos are the property of The Community House and may be used in publications, brochures, flyers, website, video productions or other marketing outlets. The Community House will protect the identity of those used in our promotional materials.

Jordan Crist Scholarship Fund

The Community House strives to make all programs available to all people. Through the generous donations and efforts of family and friends, the Jordan Crist Scholarship Fund was created to provide assistance to those in need.
