oughly two years ago, an idea was created in a small attic apartment by June Brone. This idea recognized that over the years jewelry in general had become so monotone and flavorless with everyone basically sharing the exact same style with no way to express individuality. Fashion had been plagued by mainstream influences deciding for people what was hot and what to wear. Individuals had no voice in what they wore. June Brone had always been creative, growing up with a passion for art which he expressed through his paintings, dress style and even modeling. June bottled up all this love for art and created Zenuj. What started mainly as a jewelry line focused mainly on beads has now grown into an art form that allows you to express yourself whether it be through
custom made Zenuj bracelets, chains, earrings, rings or even jean jackets, shoe laces, metals and wooden designs. What had begun in the New England area has now spread to Florida, as June made
the move their to further expand and show people what Zenuj is. While there, June met Karo Leena, an extremely talented woman with a mind just as creative and crazy as June’s. With her own background in
influence has created some pieces that creates a frenzy of excitement when worn. Zenuj is the energy of great ideas coming together to interpret something new, fresh and eye catching. All Zenuj are custom, handmade pieces whose base designs come from the customer. Because no two pieces are the same, those who wear Zenuj are able to become individuals with their pieces, instead of similar. Zenuj is now so well-known that it is easy to distinguish a Zenuj piece in a crowd. As of today, Zenuj is being worn by the everyday working man and also many celebrities have gotten their custom made pieces. Zenuj is art, its expression, it’s a web design and fashion, momentum that can be Karo’s ability to put a felt when you allow your fresh new perspective in creative process to come Zenuj designs, along with to life. Basically, Zenuj is the intermingling of two different styles, has allowed anything you want it to be. Zenuj isn’t a movement. Zenuj to come to life in Zenuj is momentum. a brand new way. Karo’s

BIZZABILITY: A ONE STOP SHOP VIA DOT-COM AND ONLINE >> By KJ Cohen
W
MYAMI Magazine had a chance to sit down and chat with Guy Kennett owner and CEO of Bizzability, a newly launched South Florida-based technology company. The company offers more than 18 million businesses to search, customized e-deals and write-ups on upcoming events all via computer and a complementing iPhone and Android app available for free download. technology to the market, how can a small business – or a big business for that matter – benefit from something like this? Push notifications are a newly launch feature that grants business owners key exposure to their target audience. The smart phone technology sent directly to Bizzability users’ mobile phones allows them to customize the e-deals they receive based on category, location, as well as time and days of the week. This keeps our users in control and insures they receive the deals they want, when they want them. I’d like to think of it as our no spam solution! Furthermore users can add their favorite businesses to a list which will insure e-deals from these establishment are sent as a priority, this enables businesses to communicate more efficiently than email with their regular clients, creating loyalty and increased business. Tell us about your smart phone application, what are some of the perks to your users? Our smart phone application for the iPhone and Android is available to download for free and allows users to search for 18 million businesses through the touch of a screen. In addition to convenience, consumers can search local e-deals on-the-go. By checking-in at participating locations, Bizzability users can automatically receive access to perks such as complimentary beverages and discounts. Bizzability seems to be a marriage of several different technology sites and social media marketing platforms; how does your brand differ or stand out from its competitors?
hy did you launch the Bizzability brand – in specific, why in the South Florida marketplace? The Bizzability brand was developed for small and ultra-small businesses to offer owners a low-cost marketing platform to communicate with consumers via the latest location-based technology. I saw a need for such a company when my wife’s Weston-based hair salon, Hair Venture, suffered due to the economic downturn. As a South Florida resident and business owner, I, in addition to my team of developers, launched Bizzability locally with the goal of assisting neighboring entrepreneurs and their businesses via an affordable medium. What are you hoping to accomplish with Bizzability (both online and via the application)? Our top priority is to create a brand that benefits both business owners and consumers. For business owners we aimed to create tools that would in turn increase their bottom line through marketing and promotions. In creating our complimentary on-the-go app, we hoped to both act a resource for consumers, but also drive them to visit these business owners - in turn expand community reach. You are targeting the B-2-C market, can you tell MYAMI magazine about this, what benefits would the business reap and what benefits would the consumer reap? A key component to note about Bizzability is that every service offered is both beneficial to businesses and consumer. For example, we have created our own flash deal platform on the site much like Groupon or Living Social and work with our businesses to help those craft special e-deals that included complimentary offerings and discounts on products or services. Contrary to the 60/40 split profit model used by larger corporations, our e-deals are 100 percent profitable to businesses as the business keeps 100 percent of the revenue generated allowing them to pass along the full discount to the consumer.
In addition our check-in feature allows consumers to receive a ‘free perk’ at participating locations, this offers great benefits to consumers, but the business owner also benefits from the check-in posting to the consumers Facebook wall, which tells all their friends they’re at that business. Tell us a little bit about your newly launch Push Notifications feature. This is definitely a newer
While similar to competitors in the market in regards to technology, Bizzability differs - as our main objective is to support our local businesses. We understand the challenges that small businesses face – from technology learning curves to lack of manpower. It can be very difficult to compete with larger corporations who have limitless budgets to communicate via advertising, marketing, social media and public relations efforts, so we hope to even the playing field with affordable and user-friendly services.

CAVITIES Cavities occur as a result of tooth decay. Tooth decay is the destruction of tooth structure. Tooth decay can affect both the enamel (the outer coating of the tooth) and the dentin (the inner layer of the tooth). Tooth decay occurs when foods containing carbohydrates (sugars and starches) such as breads, cereals, milk, soda, fruits, cakes, or candy are left on the teeth. Bacteria that live in the mouth digest these foods, turning them into acids. The bacteria, acid, food debris, and saliva combine to form plaque, which clings to the teeth. The acids in plaque dissolve the enamel surface of the teeth, creating holes in the teeth called cavities, or caries. Many people think cavities only affect children, but changes that occur with aging make cavities an adult problem too. Recession of the gums (a pulling away of gum tissue from the teeth), often associated with an increased incidence of gingivitis (gum disease), can expose tooth roots to plaque. Also, sugary food cravings in pregnant women can make them more vulnerable to developing cavities. Decay around the edges of cavity fillings is also common in older adults. Because many older adults lacked the benefits of fluoride and modern preventive dental care when they were growing up, they often have a number of dental fillings. Over the years, these fillings may weaken and can fracture, allowing bacteria to accumulate in the tiny crevices causing tooth decay. Dentists fill teeth by removing the decayed tooth material with a drill and replacing it
with a material such as silver alloy, gold, porcelain, or composite resin. Porcelain and composite resin more closely match the natural tooth appearance, and may be preferred for front teeth. Many dentists consider silver amalgam (alloy) and gold to be stronger, and these materials are often used on back teeth. There is a trend to use high strength composite resin in the back teeth as well. Crowns or “caps are used if tooth decay is extensive and there is limited tooth structure, which may cause weakened teeth. Large fillings and weak teeth increase the risk of the tooth breaking. The decayed or weakened area is removed and repaired. A crown is fitted over the remainder of the tooth. Crowns are often made of gold, porcelain, or porcelain attached to metal. A root canal is recommended if the nerve

in a tooth dies from decay or injury. The center of the tooth, including the nerve and blood vessel tissue (pulp), is removed along with decayed portions of the tooth. The roots are filled with a sealing material. The tooth is filled, and a crown may be placed over the tooth if needed. Prevention Oral Hygiene is necessary to prevent cavities. This consists of regular professional cleaning (every 6 months), brushing at least twice a day, and flossing at least daily. X-rays may be taken yearly to detect possible cavity development in high risk areas of the mouth. Chewy, sticky foods (such as dried fruit or candy) are best if eaten as part of a meal rather than as a snack. If possible, brush the teeth or rinse the mouth with water after eating these foods. Minimize snacking, which creates a constant supply of acid in the mouth. Avoid constant sipping of sugary drinks or frequent sucking on candy and mints. Dental sealants can prevent some cavities. Sealants are thin plastic-like coatings applied to the chewing surfaces of the molars. This coating prevents the accumulation of plaque in the deep grooves on these vulnerable surfaces. Sealants are usually applied on the teeth of children, shortly after the molars erupt. Older people may also benefit from the use of tooth sealants. Fluoride is often recommended to protect against dental caries. It has been demonstrated that people who ingest fluoride in their drinking water or by fluoride supplements have fewer dental caries. Fluoride ingested when the teeth are developing is incorporated into the structure of the enamel and protects it against the action of acids. Topical fluoride is also recommended to protect the surface of the teeth. This may include a fluoride toothpaste or mouthwash. Many dentists include application of topical fluoride solutions (applied to a localized area of the teeth) as part of routine visits. Apparently the writing team was “overly optimistic” about a Thanksgiving release. “Making the film within that time period is plausible (we’ve done it on Saw, obviously), but it became clear very early on that our goals were not realistic because we needed sun, water slides, and bikini-clad coeds … three things not very prevalent in the United States during the months of January and February. We initially scouted Louisiana and realized that we wouldn’t be able to shoot until late March because of the cold weather.”
Daily Dead to dish up the U.S.
On a positive note, the studio has provided the feature with more money for special effects improvements after the film passed a screen test with flying colors.
“Scenes, jokes, and kills were simply enhanced to make the movie more of an event. About a month ago, it was tested and scored very well. So well the studio gave us more money to enhance the FX.” Melton is promising audiences a bloody Spring Break treat come hell or high water. “Soon, it’ll be done and ready for a theatrical release. Because of the “Spring Break vibe” in the film, spring was the obvious time to open it. And because Dimension Films financed the movie and owns the movie, they call the shots on when it’s released worldwide.” There you have it. When the bunny rabbits see their shadow (or something), Piranha 3DD will be ready to gnash teeth and invade bikinis everywhere.
Producers Guild Nominations Are Mostly Predictable With a Few Pleasant Surprises 2011 may be over, but its award season is still in full swing and the latest Hollywood cabal to announce their candidates for awards glory is the Producers Guild of America. As our own awards expert, Erik Childress, pointed out this morning, once a film receives a PGA nomination its chances of an Oscar nomination rise substantially. So while there are some obvious Oscar locks in contention here, like The Artist, The Descendants and The Help? with only a few surprises (Bridesmaids, for one), perhaps worth paying more attention to are the titles missing from the list. On the live-action theatrical front, the PGA threw no love to Tinker Tailor Soldier
Spy, Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close, The Tree of Life, J. Edgar, or Drive. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2 also received no nomination, which means don't expect a Return of the King-style recognition for the end of the Potter franchise on the big screen come this year's Oscars. On the animated front,
Winnie the Pooh, Rio, Mars Needs Moms and Arthur Christmas just weren't up to snuff, though none of those snubs are particularly egregious. Oddly the biggest surprises on the list are the inclusion of the music documentaries Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of a Tribe Called Quest and The Union, which haven't received a ton of awards buzz so far this season. And though it's already out of Oscar contention, the PGA did recognize Senna, a terrific documentary about the life of the famous F1 racer, which it's worth noting is not available on DVD in the US, but is now available on Netflix Watch Instantly (hint hint). The PGA announces
their winners on January 21st.

The world wept when fishy favorite Piranha 3DD was pushed into vague release date territory just a few months ago. Would we ever be enlightened by the extreme water park antics that a pack of killer piranha would enact upon the co-ed population? When would we get to see Gary Busey and a farting, exploding cow? Written by Saw scribes Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton, and directed by Feast filmmaker John Gulager, Piranha 3DD isn’t a wash — but UK audiences won’t be treated to a bigscreen showing. The movie will be making its way to DVD/Blu-ray on March 19 — a disappointment if you were hoping to bask in the glory of David Hasselhoff’s chest hair while fondling your buttery popcorn. Meanwhile, Melton caught up with

gabonensis (AubryLecomte ex Ororke) Baillon. Family: Irvingiaceae. Older references may list family Simarubaceae.
The Many Other Uses of African Mango Research on African mango shows beneficial effects for diabetes and obesity, as well as analgesic, antimicrobial, antioxidant, and GI activity. Numerous studies exist on the potential industrial application of African mango in food, cosmetic, and pharmaceutical products.
Common Name(s): African mango, African wild mango, irvingia, dika (dikanut, dikabread tree ), odika, ogbono, sweet bush mango, bush mango, iba-
History: Ethnomedicinal treatments utilize the bark, kernels, leaves, or roots for a variety of ailments. The bark is mixed with palm oil for treating
diarrhea and for reducing the breast-feeding period. The shavings of the stem bark are consumed by mouth to treat hernias, yellow fever, and dysentery, and to reduce the effects of poison in French Equatorial Africa. The antibiotic properties of the bark help heal scabby skin, and the boiled bark relieves tooth pain. The Mende tribe in Sierra Leone grinds the bark into a paste with water and applies the product to the skin for pain relief. In certain parts of Africa, the bark extract is ingested to produce an analgesic effect. The powdered kernels act as an astringent and are also applied to burns. The stems of the tree have been used as chewing sticks to help clean teeth.

African Mango is popular because it is seen as a ’super fruit’, which is very popular right now in weight loss. This can help stimulate fat hormones and curb appetite cravings. LAURENZO’S DYNASTY by Ian Phillips
Walk through the door, scoot past the checkout counters, nod at the stoic yet amiable cashiers and there you will find a few onions sitting in a small wicker basket. Take one and notice the sheen on its perfect onion skin, the slight shading of orange and gold. Examine the roots, an intact little cap protecting the juicy white flesh inside. These are the finest onions, handpicked and showcased every day. Garlic bulbs are given the same treatment. The Laurenzos understand that these are the first building blocks of italian cooking, and most all cooking, for that matter. The Laurenzo family and staff wake up every morning with certain tasks at hand. David, Carol and Diana control the overall flow of the market. Each has a specific role, to be sure, but the success is due to everyone relying on each other for everything. Another member of Laurenzos, Robert, manages the meat and seafood
department. The market is the epitome of teamwork. In order to understand the business’s impact, you have to understand its scope. Perhaps it helps to mention that on the sign of the property reads, “Laurenzo’s Italian Center.” The center includes the supermarket, the farmers market, and a party hall. And all three are freestanding buildings. The smell is what first impacted me at Laurenzo’s—scents of cheese, wine, and cured meats. Then its old school aesthetic, with its subdued tones of auburn and oak. I felt I was back in Delizia 92 on Manhattan’s upper east side. At first it was an emotional experience and once I started surveying the wares, it became a personal one. Mr. Laurenzo dynamically represents what his father, Ben, had cultivated during one of the family’s earliest business ventures, Prince Famous Foods. David as well as his siblings are third generation business owners, and have the old school charm one expects from such a driven family. While the market portends a homey feel, eclecticism has wiggled its way into the business as well. The wholesale undertaking turned to retail when Ben Laurenzo, the son of Achilles, started the market in the 1960’s. Both the grocery and farmers market harbor a multitude of international products. Chefs of all stripes come to Laurenzo’s to find authentic ingredients. This esoteric inventory is not
a product of David and his siblings— the market has carried quirky and international wines since Ben opened the business 47 years ago. The founder himself can still be found at the market, whether recommending wines, merchandising products or frying up zeppole at the instore cafe. The premium meat is one reason I travel to Laurenzo’s. Once while waiting my turn for the butcher I had the pleasure of watching a professional shopper. She was standing at the meat counter in a Sunday dress, first ordering country ribs, then a couple of porterhouse steaks—“What kind of meatballs are these? Beef, pork, veal? Great, I’ll take 5 pounds.” She also took some sausage and by the time she was finished had ordered some whole snapper and a few lobsters. All this was done with an air of authority and a swirling glass of white wine. Her husband loaded up their cart. I wanted to shop like that and Laurenzo’s gave me the opportunity, although I doubt I could pull it off like that admirable woman. David has said that some of his patrons are decade-old customers, some even knowing Ben from his first retail venture way back in 1951. These are the blueblooded American foodies. If word of mouth is Laurenzo’s best marketing strategy, one can imagine how many ears have heard about the store from these regulars. Apparently there is no need to drop thousands on a local TV spot. A Miami Herald article from 1992 published
some parcels of profundity from Ben: “They said I was crazy to be down the block from WinnDixie. But chain stores don’t hurt us. Never have.” How is that? One could go on and on about how you won’t find the same imported anchovies or that you haven’t tasted such a bisque in years, or that you can’t believe the coveted bottle of wine you’ve been searching for has been there waiting on Laurenzo’s shelves, but are these really the reasons for Laurenzo’s success? Without argument, and on a superficial level, the answer is yes. But it is on a supernatural level that Laurenzo’s exists. The universe simply won’t let the market go down. It is one of the remaining stem cells here in South Florida. Mom and Pop stores are easy to find up around the north east coast, especially in cities like New York and the wow factor is there, and they have a certain amount of importance, but none that equals what Laurenzo’s means to our surf and sun community. If by some freakish way we lose Laurenzo’s I do believe I would have to leave Miami altogether. That is how important a market that showcases food with history, nutrition, and great taste is to me and obviously to my fellow Floridians. The market is a magnetic entity, one whose place in the dirt is marked with its DNA. Long after the destruction of our town, the ethereal presence of Laurenzo’s Italian Center will remain.
