hysical and emotional scars wounded young ones and adults worldwide when their eyes met the tragic event that has occurred. Although this day will never be forgotten, we as a nation became stronger and more united than ever to rise up from the fallen ashes and the black dust. Since April 27, 2006, construction started to create one of the seven buildings that

would eventually become the lead building of the new World Trade center complex, which is called the Freedom Tower. When it is completed in 2012, it will be the tallest building in the United States. The Freedom Tower will stand about 50 feet taller than the Twin Towers. The design is officially known as “Memory Foundations” because it leaves room for several memorials in the 16-acre complex. One of those memorials was the basement of the World Trade Center and served to hold back

the Hudson River to keep it from flooding the complex. It was here that the remains of thousands of dead were found, and hundreds more who were never found. People will be able to walk down a ramp from ground level all the way down to bedrock along the edge of this wall -- the last original remaining piece of the twin towers. The Freedom Tower is definitely way more than just a real estate project. It is a remedy for those hurt by the terrorists and a way to heal the scar on a nation.

Part of the healing process is new growth, which this tower represents but unfortunately, it has been a painful process. The early designs were actually ridiculed. When the first consistent plan came out it also found many critics. Most had forgotten, or were too young to remember, that the original twin towers were also the subject of much rage for their design and expense. It was only after those towers were taken away that the city realized it had grown to love the two great millstones.

Osama’s Death

Operation Neptune Spear

The operation, code-named Operation Neptune Spear, was ordered by United States President Barack Obama and carried out in a U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) operation by a team of United States Navy SEALs from the United States Naval Special Warfare Development Group (also known as DEVGRU or informally by its former name, SEAL Team Six) of the Joint Special Operations Command, with support from CIA operatives on the ground. The raid on Bin Laden’s compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan was launched from Afghanistan. After the raid, U.S. forces took bin Laden’s body to Afghanistan for identification, then buried it at sea within 24 hours of his death.

May 1st, 2011 was a triumphant day for the United States. The infamous individual that enthused bloodshed and death to innocent American citizens on the 11th day of September was killed in Abbottabad, Pakistan and this statement was confirmed by our President Barack Obama. When this news was announced people gathered to celebrate in different locations. Thousands crowded around the White House, hundreds of New Yorkers joined together at Times Square and Ground Zero, and a small crowd of mostly Middle Eastern origin was gathered outside of the City Hall in Dearborn, Michigan. Bin Laden’s death was heard around the world within seconds, Twitter claims that 4,000 tweets were sent per second during Obama’s speech. Former President of our beloved nation commented on the victorious killing. George W. Bush said, “This momentous achievement marks a victory for America, for people who seek peace around the world, and for all those who lost loved ones on September 11th, 2001.” U.S Secretary Hillary Clinton exclaimed pride fully, “The fight [against terrorism] continues, and we will never waver. I know there are some who doubted this day would ever come, who questioned our resolve and our reach. But let us remind ourselves, this is America. We rise to the challenge, we persevere, and we get the job done.”

will never forget the scared, mourning, and masked faces that engulfed the city when I went outside.” Kimberly Rodriguez reminisces, “I was in second grade and the principle went on the intercom saying something happened with planes. I just thought someone got sick. So school ended early and my mom picked me and my brothers up, we went home and turned on the news. Together we saw the replay of the towers getting hit by planes. I didn’t really understand what was going on.” pools, established within the footprints of the original twin towers. The 9/11 Memorial Museum will be open in 2012.

The Memorial in NYC The Ground Zero Memorial and Museum are now known as the 9/11 Memorial and the 9/11 Memorial Museum. The plans of creating a memorial began in the immediate aftermath of the attacks and corruption of the World Trade Center to remember the victims and the individuals that were involved in rescue. The 9/11 Memorial in New York City will be dedicated on the decade of remembrance and will be open to the public on September 12th, 2011. Visitors must reserve advance passes for a specific date and time. Passes are free and public reservations are available to on the website 911memorial.org starting July 11, 2011. The Memorial includes two massive waterfalls and reflecting

Sonia Garcia, a mother in New York City, tells me her experience when the Twin Towers fell, “I was terrified and sometimes at night I was scared to sleep. I was worried because I had no contact with my brother and husband since the phones wouldn’t work. I was paranoid to go to the city or get on public transit because of another attack.” A teenage New Yorker, Delilah Diaz, shares her memory of that heartrending day, “My mom was at work when it happened and she was coming to get me from school but the police wasn’t letting anyone go through, so my mom called my grandma to get me because they were closing the schools. My September 11th Story

T

en years ago, on September 11th, 2001, would mark the day that certain events would change the way the rest of the nation and I would look at the world. For me this story was a little different; I along with more than a hundred thousand other Americans was in the military at the time. I was serving with a unit at Fort Benning, GA. I remember that day very clearly. We were out in the field training as most military units do when we got the call to meet at the main tent and get ready to pack up. We didn’t know what to expect and just thought that we were getting out of the field early. As we sat listening, my ears started to comprehend that the World Trade Center had been hit by two planes. We could not believe that this had happened. Some of us were in shock, others were in denial and others just had a confused look on their face. For me it did not settle in until I saw the towers go down on the news. At that very moment I knew that our unit was going to deploy to Iraq. In March of 2003, part of our unit, including myself deployed to Kuwait. This is where we received our briefing on the situation in Iraq and what we should expect. After a couple of days at Camp Doha, we moved to a base a couple of miles south of Iraq, while we waited for all of our vehicles and the rest of our gear to come in overseas. As we waited, we would sit and talk about what was to come and how we should react. What we didn’t understand was that no matter how much training or how much we talked about it, nothing can prepare you for the emotional impact that a war can have on a person.

Less than a month went by and we were ready to head in to Iraq. I will save you the graphic details but the devastation that I saw was enough to change my frame of mind forever. Not everyone in that country had hatred for us. Most of them were really nice people just trying to survive and make a living just like you and I. A lot of these people were victims of the same

The attacks on 9/11 let people truly notice and appreciate the service that we provide and the sacrifices that we make. terrorism that we had encountered. Some had lost some family members and some had just lost everything. I came across these children one day and the oldest was 10 years old. These poor children were living on the streets with no parents. They had to find a way to survive off of whatever they were blessed with that day, which was not much. This impacted me a whole lot being that I am a father. I wanted to take them home and provide a better living for them. As a matter of fact, that 10 year old boy approached us telling him to take him with us. When we asked, “Where are your parents?” and “Where are your things?”He replied; “I don’t have anything, I am ready to go right now”. What do you do when there is a child asking for help and you are not allowed to do anything? Everything in me wanted to tell that child to jump in with us but I knew I couldn’t. Even if I could, what would I tell the other kids? I

gave him some of my food and gave him my water bottle. As we drove off, I watched as the kids waved at us and that 10 year old held on to that water bottle and food like it was gold. I saw and did a lot of things as result of the attacks on 9/11 but I also learned a lot. I learned that Americans consume themselves with so much on an everyday basis and it’s only in time of devastation to ourselves that we come together. Americans learned that our service, along with emergency services (police, firefighters, paramedics, etc.) will do their job with no questions and no requests. It is our job to keep you safe while you sleep, we signed up for that. So why are we taken for granted? Why are we an afterthought when the smoke clears? Do you ever see a service man or woman on the street and thank them for what they do for you? Do you ever take time and thank a police officer, firefighter or paramedic? The attacks on 9/11 let people truly notice and appreciate the service that we provide and the sacrifices that we make. Since then, I have had more than the usual amount of people thank me for my service and I think to myself how sad that it had to come to this but I do appreciate how Americans have realized how important we are to them. Since I have been back, I have experienced a whole lot of different things. Some emotional, some physical and others spiritual but it was the emotional transition from military life after war to civilian life that impacted me the most. I think that 2004 – 2008, were some of the worst years I went through emotionally. It has taken a lot to get back to a place where I can deal

with people on a regular basis, which is a battle that many veterans of not just this war but every war have gone through and are still going through on a daily basis. This battle is within us, it is a mental battle for understanding and acceptance. Many of us seek therapy or other means of coping, which can lead to drugs, alcohol or worse. Some even choose death over dealing with the emotional trauma. Luckily, there are a lot of programs that have been created by the Veterans Administration to help those service men and women but it is not enough. There should be more effort put in by the government to make sure that we are taken care of and are able to deal with that trauma. U.S Veterans make many sacrifices both mental and physical so we may serve our country and all we ask in return is that we be taken care of and remembered. This applies to not just veterans but our emergency service providers who go through trauma as result of their job. Let’s not forget those who have given so much for our freedom and safety. Those firefighters up late putting out that 4 alarm fire, those paramedics making sure you make it to the hospital alive, those police officers patrolling the streets making sure that you are safe and those Armed Forces members who have given so much of themselves to keep this country free and safe. When you see them on the street, take some time out of your day and thank them for the services that they do. Believe me, you will make our day. We should take what happened on 9/11, learn from it and make positive changes in our lives. Only in doing this, we will be able to honor the deaths of all the men and women who passed on this tragic day.

STORM SURGE SIMULATOR UNVEILED New Visual Tool Allows Residents to See Their

Vulnerability On the 19th Anniversary of Hurricane Andrew, a new tool is being made available to residents to get a more realistic picture of the threat of storm surge. The Storm Surge Simulator combines historical data and modern day technology to allow residents to see what storm surge can mean to them and their property. With the new Storm Surge Simulator, residents type in their address, pick the intensity of the hurricane (Category 1-5), select the image of a person or home, and let simulator do the rest. For

those living in Evacuation Zones, the simulator is a reminder of the potential impact of storm surge. More than a half a million people live in one of Miami-Dade County’s three Hurricane Evacuation Zones and storm surge remains the greatest threat to life and property. It is the primary reason why evacuations are ordered. “Miami-Dade residents are encouraged to use the Storm Surge Simulator to educate themselves on their vulnerability to storm surge and put an appropriate hurricane evacuation plan into place,” said Curtis Sommerhoff, Director of the Miami-Dade Department of Emergency Management. “Understanding your risk can help mitigate the impacts of a disaster. The launch of the simulator is especially timely as we are in the middle of a very active hurricane season.” To try out the simulator, go to www. mimaidade.gov. The Storm Surge Simulator is made possible through a partnership between MiamiDade County’s Department of Emergency Management and Florida International University’s International Hurricane Research Center and School of Computing and Information Sciences.

TEETH WHITENING WITH ZOOM >> by Dr Valeria Soltanik (dmd p.a. dn16609)

Lets first understand why teeth get decolorized: There are many causes. The most common include aging and consumption of staining substances such as coffee, tea, colas, tobacco, red wine, etc. During tooth formation, consumption of tetracycline, certain antibiotics or excessive fluoride may also cause tooth discoloration. To understand the whitening process , let me explain what is zoom and how it works: Zoom! is a bleaching process that lightens discoloration of enamel and dentin. With nearly four million smiles and counting, the Zoom in-office whitening system has become the uncontested world leader of inoffice professional whitening. Zoom is so popular, patients ask for it by name because it delivers the immediate, dramatic results they’re looking for. The Zoom! light activated whitening gel’s active ingredient is Hydrogen Peroxide. As the Hydrogen Peroxide is broken down, oxygen enters the enamel and dentin, bleaching colored substances while the structure of the tooth is unchanged. The Zoom! light aids in activating the hydrogen peroxide and helps it penetrate the surface of the tooth. A study has shown that use of the Zoom! lamp increases the effectiveness of the Zoom! gel by 26% or more, giving an average improvement of up to eight shades. The complete procedure takes less than an hour. The procedure begins with a preparation period followed as little as by 45 minutes of bleaching. We always recommend a cleaning prior to the zoom process. It is important to follow our instructions after the zoom the get good results in time. By following some

simple post whitening care instructions, your teeth will always be lighter than they were before. To keep your teeth looking their best, we recommend flossing, brushing twice daily, and occasional touch-ups with Zoom!. These are professional formula products designed specifically to keep your teeth their brightest. They are available only through your dental professional. Also is important to attend to periodic cleaning done at the office , where stains can be removed and brightening stays longer. Lets discuss it side effects: Sensitivity during the treatment may occur with some patients. The Zoom! light generates minimal heat which is the usual source of discomfort. On rare occasions, minor tingling sensations are experienced immediately after the procedure, but always dissipate. You can also ask your dentist to supply you with anti-sensitivity toothpaste for use prior to treatment. Who can benefit of zoom and is it safe? Almost anyone. However, treatment may not be as effective for some as it is for others. Your dental professional can determine if you are a viable candidate for this procedure through a thorough oral exam, including a shade assessment. Extensive research and clinical studies indicate that whitening teeth under the supervision of a dentist is safe. In fact, many dentists consider whitening the safest cosmetic dental procedure available. As with any tooth whitening product, Zoom! is not recommended for children under 13 years of age and pregnant or lactating women. This equipment provides the laser light that writhen the teeth

Qwote, can you educate our readers on who you are and how you came about working with Slip N Slide? I was able to work with Slip n Slide through management working on Trina’s project the “The Baddest Chick”. My career really got started with the single “Don’t Wanna Fight” with Trina,

which was released in 2008. What other singles did you drop with Trina? We did a few together including “Phone Sex”, which was a great hit as well as “Don’t Go”, the one she dedicated to Lil Wayne. Yes, I do remember

hearing that single. How did you end up Miami? I grew up in Long Island, New York with my grandmother and I was getting into a little trouble here and there. She thought it would be better for me to come to Miami. I did and still was getting into trouble so it didn’t really work. (laughs)

Were you in the music business up in New York? Not really. A couple of years before we left I started to really fall in love with music, I was using it as therapy to cope with the death of my mother. She passed away when I was six and that was why I was getting into trouble.

Wow, I am sorry to hear that. No worries, it really made me who I am now. Did you go to school out here? Yeah. I went to North Miami High, it was a great experience. I met many amazing people.

Are you freaking kidding me?!? I can’t help but to think that this is how celebrities roll and after being greeted by Ruben at the front door, I couldn’t help to think that I WAS a celebrity! Simply put, this place is dope! Read on. Opening its doors in Dade County in 2006, the Chop Shop has been taking hair styling to another level. Click on “cutz” at [www. chopshopmiami.com] and you will agree, some of the sickest skills behind shears Miami has ever seen. Every week these guys hold “Cut and Scratch Fridays” from 6-8pm that include DJ battles, celebrity interviews, and artists ripping the mic broadcasting live online at Coast2Coast.fm. If these guys aren’t posted up on 73rd and Biscayne or in their customized Mobile Barber Shop, then you can find them

hosting toy drives for kids, block parties, car shows, making music video’s and releasing calendars with some of the hottest cars and chicks in South Florida. Also, production is starting on a reality show that features the Chop Shop and the soon to open Chop Shop Tattoo’s. We met some of the film crew and saw camera’s the day we made our visit, so don’t be surprised if you’re seen on TV! After talking with a few of the fellows at the Chop Shop, it was easy to feel like family. I came to realize that this is more than just a place to get a proper groom. “Haircuts, Art, and Tattoo’s are a lifestyle” says Big Ed, “Creating a standard and then marketing it”. These guys are finding a way to blend all 3 together. With aspirations of opening up Chop Shops in New York and Los Angeles, Miami will be the home base and launching pad. There is also a hinting of the Chop Shop Academy, sounds like a cool place to learn a profession. Traditional haircuts are under $20, designs start at $25, and you are only limited by your imagination (seriously, go check out their

website). These guys are masters of their trade, second to none. You can literally be getting a haircut, and have Lenny Kravitz on one side of you and Penny Hardaway on the other. The wall of celebrities is so big that they are running out of room. Frequently you will see a tour bus, exotic cars and limos parked out front, some rapper is going to land a helicopter there soon, I just know it! Myami Magazine got a chance to peek behind the scenes at the brain trust of this organization. HW8 Creative (headed up by Amir, the director of operations) is the visionary behind this amazing concept. Partnered with a balance of extremely talented, motivated and savvy individuals, they form one of the most forward thinking entrepreneurial groups in Miami. Stemming from this core are strategically placed ventures like [buttonrevolution.com]. Those ventures, along with making money, incorporate and market the business plan in several directions, ultimately promoting the concept called “The Movement”. The Movement is the goal in which Amir and his brother Big Ed are most enthused about.

It comprises all of their business ventures into a culmination of philanthropy; a genuine act of giving back to the community. Charitable functions include working with the Ronald McDonald house, teaming up with NASCAR, Coca-Cola, and many others. With the help of their most important asset, their employees, they have been able to organize the “Chop Shop Cares for Kids Foundation”. A not for profit corporation whose mission is to build strong kids, families and communities by instilling a sense of self-confidence and positive body image to schoolaged children in under served areas of South Florida by donating beauty services like haircuts, hairstyling and mentoring. Donations have gone to buy book-bags and school supplies to help with the financial burden of getting our children prepped for the new school year. With compassion at its root, this business model is successful on many different levels. We hope you enjoy the interview and hopefully get a better understanding of what it takes to be a success in business, but more importantly, be an asset to the community and successful in life.

Amir and Big Ed

Amir and Big Ed

- In regards to the Movement, you said that you would like to become national and mentioned to go to different cities promoting the button revolution. Can you touch on that? - Amir: Having to create new marketing tools we came across the buttons a little less than a year ago and we realized the difference from getting a flyer and throwing it away to getting a button and wearing it. I mean we, of course, will always have business cards but this was another tool that we can use to help brand and market our business so it only made sense.

- How did you end up in Miami? - Amir: Ed had started the Brand the Chop Shop originally in Elizabeth, New Jersey, which had a great response and reached a really creative demographic. However, Ed decided to sell his location to a business partner and move down to Miami in the of summer of 2001 and start a new business together. - Was this a planned idea that you and your brother were going to be business partners? - Amir: We have always been about business and I was really creative and wanted to come to Miami to create a new image for the Chop Shop, which was based on a theme of cars and bikes, coupled with an aggressive approach to marketing our brand as a lifestyle. - I know that you also have Chix Chop Shop, has that also been open at the same time with the Chop Shop? - Big Ed: No, we just tried it out for a few months and it just didn’t seem to make sense being that we had a barber shop and we are already catering to the male demographic with the haircuts. So being that Amir is so talented at what he does, he decided to

because we are not really acting it is going to be the realist of reality shows that we can possibly show you.

In 2001, they moved to Miami to relocate the business and start the birth of a new following that was being created in our backyards. add a tattoo shop instead of keeping Chix. - Amir: Which is giving us a really good response, people have asked when will it be opening and extremely excited to see what kind of talented artists the Chop Shop will bring to Chop Shop Tattoo’s. - How many barbers do you have?

- Big Ed: We always have 8 at all times and sometimes have 1 more covering our additional station in the back; we have a total of nine stations. - I have been hearing that there is a reality show in the making. How is that going? Who is the producer behind it? Can you give a sneak peak for our readers? - Amir: The producer is

Chris Carballo with Loaded Media Group, he is currently working on 6 reality shows. What he does is create a sizzler and pilot video to present to networks. Unfortunately, we cannot release the network due to negotiation. It’s really not a pilot, he likes to call it a treatment to show the potential producers what his vision is on trying to capture The Chop Shop Movement,

- How can people see what the Chop Shop is up to? I know you do Cut & Scratch Fridays, how can people view and follow you guys? - Big Ed: You can follow us on twitter: @chopshopmiami and at www.chopshopmiami.com, always keep an eye out for the campaigns that we post for any events. I did want to add to this interview and let all the readers know that (HW8 creative) is the driving force behind this project.

24 A half Puerto Rican, half Chileno holding the title of the General Manager/ Partner out of Jersey City. He landed in Miami in January of 2009 with his family to take over the day to day functions of the Chop Shop.

Ruben Palacios - Ruben, how did you end up linking with Amir & Ed with The Chop Shop? - Amir & Ed are like brothers to me. I have known them for about 26 years. I was living in Jersey City and remember Amir leaving to Miami with Ed and told me to come along but being that I was starting a family and was comfortable where I was, it did not make sense for me to relocate. However, I started to think about how talented Amir was and what he was starting to do with the shop. I began to wonder if I should relocate and have faith in what he is doing and go to Miami and begin a new life. I decided that was a risk that I would take and felt confident that it will all work. Fortunately, I can proudly say that it did and I am happy. - What was your main goal with The Chop Shop once you got there? - Ruben: Well, really I had to get a feel for the city &

- So, I am assuming you are excited about the reality show? - I am definitely excited but I am used to being in front of the camera. My passion is in sports, I actually worked with ESPN for a few weeks for the barber shop sports talk, which was really cool. I am ready and extremely confident with Chris Carballo, who will definitely make this happen.

the people and establish a lifestyle. We are really big on building a lifestyle for people. Haircuts play a big role in your life and I wanted to make The Chop Shop not just a barber shop. I wanted to create an image for the shop that made it feel like it was an unforgettable experience from when you walk through the door. - Experience? What do you mean by that? - Literally, when you walk through the doors you will be experiencing either the presence of celebrities to upcoming and well known artists freestyling or performing. We also have Cut & Scratch Fridays, which is a radio show with Coast 2 Coast. - Does the Chop Shop do any charities? - Absolutely! We do many charities annually. We are actually doing one tomorrow, August 21, for foster kids that we help for

back to school. We linked up with The Gap Inc. and collaborated to get the less fortunate foster kids to have haircuts & book-bags with supplies for the new school year. We also work together with City of Miami Police & The Ronald McDonald House, Do The Right Thing Foundation, Florida Baptist’s Children’s Home and many more. - Is it hard to deal with your

staff? Do you deal with any drama? - Keep in mind every man wants to be the king of their jungle, so I do run into a few things but nothing serious here at the Chop Shop. We strive to build a professional and creative individual. To answer your question, at times it can be difficult, we do have to adjust some attitudes but overall we are a family.

- I have to tell you it was a pleasure sitting with you and getting such a great outline on how you came about being a part of such a great movement. - Thank you guys for helping support The Chop Shop’s dreams and don’t forget readers make sure to visit our website, www. chopshopmiami.com. Make an effort to swing through and experience Cut & Scratch Fridays. Love you Miami, GM Ruben Palacio.

chris Carballo A Cuban-American cancer survivor who is the producer from Loaded Media Group working on the reality show for The Chop Shop.

This is the Miami Ink of hair.

- Chris, tell us a little about you and Loaded Media Group. - I am currently working with the making of 6 reality shows that I am extremely confident will work.

- Sizzler? Can you give more details to our readers on what exactly that is for the ones that do not know. - The sizzler is a 3-4 min presentation that I show to all the producers that will be investing in the show. If they like what I presented to them they will then request a pilot, which is the main presentation to The Chop Shop reality show.

- What do you think will make The Chop Shop reality show so different? - Like Amir said, this will be the realist of reality shows. You will see and experience the lifestyle of the shop. - Can you compare this show to any other?

-

- Where are you at with The Chop Shop reality show? - I am currently almost finishing the sizzler for the Chop Shop.

- I have to tell you I am so excited to see the first season of the Chop Shop. - (laughs) You and many

others. Attention all readers, this show will be as real as it gets. Make sure to tune in and see the show, it will be a must see. I urge for everyone to experience the Chop Shop Miami, it is a lifestyle as well as a movement. - Chris, MYAMI Magazine feels really confident in what you are doing and especially being that you are from our city. Keep in mind that MYAMI Magazine will always be here for you to support any shows or ideas. Congrats on all your success and goals that you have accomplished as well as all the projects that you are currently working on. 16th Annual South Florida Tattoo Expo 2011 I, Dave Amchir Founder & Coordinator decided to start this expo in South Florida over a decade ago. After traveling around and visiting other expos around the country, it made me think, we really should have one in South Florida. With a lot of hard work, that is where it all began. My former partner, Sicko of Funhouse Tattoos™, came on board as our sponsor for the 2nd Annual Expo and was with me for 8 years. I thank him for his loyal support and dedication to the South Florida Tattoo Expo and wish him well in his future endeavors, it was a fun ride! Seven years ago I welcomed Dan King of Cool Cat Tattoo as our new sponsor for the South Florida Tattoo expo and look forward to many more to come! Our first expo, back in 1996, was held at the Sheraton Hotel on Griffin and I95. Then the next two years we spent at the Marriott on Cypress Creek and Andrews. After

that, we spent two years at the Clarion on Hallandale Beach Blvd and A1A. Outgrowing all three of these hotels over the years, we finally settled at the Coral Springs Marriott Resort from 2001-2006. Four years ago we moved to the Deerfield Beach Hilton. Adopting the same charity benefiting from the SFPC Christmas Toys in the Sun Run, the Children’s Cancer Treatment Center at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, this event has raised over $600,000 to date. This year’s 3-day event beginning Friday and ending Sunday has a packed schedule including 14 live national and local bands that donate their time to perform throughout the weekend. Kicking off our first annual event were the controversial Genitorturers. We have had special guest appearances from members of Hate Breed and New Found Glory, just to name a couple. Tattoo

artists and vendors from all over the world, including Germany, Austria, Japan and South America fill the 115 + booths that consume the Coral Springs Marriott Resort. In addition, we have nightly fetish shows for adults only and suspension shows throughout the weekend. For those of you who do not know what “suspension” is, let me educate you. Piercing enthusiasts choose to have different parts of their flesh pierced, most commonly the back, with hooks of different sizes and then they are suspended from the ceiling or other devices. This is a site to see. We advise those with weak stomachs to watch at their own discretion. There is something for everyone at our show. Whether you are inked or not, you can come out and have a good time and know you are helping a great cause. There is an entry age limit and parental discretion is advised. We have a 100% volunteer

staff. Everyone you see at the event, handling everything from admissions to security, donate their time the entire weekend to ensure that everything runs smoothly. If you are interested in volunteering, please call 954-3435585. Special guest appearances in the past and ones that have been known to ‘pop-in’ include WWE stars Gangrel and Luna as well as the Punisher and The Warlord. We’ve also had football and baseball celebrities from the Miami Dolphins and Florida Marlins. Ron Jeremy, well-known porn star, made an appearance two years in a row, and ex-heavyweight champion Michael Moorer also stopped by along with and Billy Lane of Choppers Inc. We take pride in the fact that all proceeds benefit charity and that so many people involved donate their time and energy to turn this event into the success it has become over the years.

interview fat joe

Still doin g it

MyaMi Magazine breaking The ice Once the sixth edition of Myami Magazine hit the streets, special guests, artists, sponsors and staff came together to celebrate for a night. The main focus was on our latest cover for the magazine that was edited by Sur Digital, which is the same editing company for Semanario Argentino newspaper. The Fat Joe cover was created by the photography team consisting of Guillermo D’Ambrosio and James Eisele in Fusse Studios. The well-known rapper filled us in with new projects he is beginning and what lies ahead for him. The interview was done by Andres Carrero and you can actually see it live on Youtube now. Heksfx

Dolphins are back hitting hard

By Clark DeMas Photos Oscar Posedente

In the arms race that has become the AFC East, it appears that the Dolphins have been left behind in this mayhem of the Post-Lockout Offseason. As the New England Patriots look to defend their AFC East title, they spent their manic week of free agency adding household veteran names Chad Ochocinco and Albert Haynesworth among others to complement an already talent rich roster. Two hours south, the New York Jets made haste to sign newly released from prison standout receiver, Plaxico Burress, to complement resigned playmaker, Santonio Holmes. As the division rivals were making headlines splashed throughout free agency, the news out of Dolphins camp was far less encouraging. After two years of mediocrity at the hands of Chad Henne, the Dolphins aimed to add Denver Broncos starting quarterback, Kyle Orton. To the dismay of the Miami faithful, the brief offseason came to a close with no deal being reached

for Orton. To push Henne through camp for the starting job, the rather unspectacular former Carolina Panther Matt Moore was brought in to the cheers of no one. Lacking any security at the quarterback position is a large problem in itself, so as team leading rushers, Ronnie Brown and Rickey Williams departed through free agency. The Dolphins entered preseason football lacking any team identity as well. No identity can be a significant problem in a division that has the Pats, with their balanced attack led by Gisele’s husband and the Jets with their take no prisoners’ defense. However, as we near the end of August, the very same unimpressive Dolphins are undefeated through the preseason to date and have given the pessimistic Dolphins fans several reasons to be excited: 1. RB Reggie Bush. The Heisman Trophy winner and Super Bowl champion was

unceremoniously sent packing to Miami for a 4th round pick during the mad offseason in a move that went relatively under the radar. After falling out of favor in New Orleans after five years of service, the new #22 has brought a spark to Dolphin backfield that reminds the faithful all too much of Mercury Morris. Entering the preseason under doubts that Bush could not handle the load of being a feature back and survive in the ‘land between the tackles,’ Bush has silenced those criticisms for the meantime in his limited action during the preseason. He has averaged six yards a carry and shown that he is still an absolute mismatch with any defender in the open field one on one. Aside from Bush’s well known ability to humiliate defenders and create phenomenal YouTube highlight clips, he brings a dimension to the Dolphins that they have been lacking while employing

the “pound the rock” style backs Brown and Williams. Many of the criticisms of Chad Henne have been that he refuses to make decisions with the ball and ultimately checks down to the running back in the flat, limiting the offense from moving the ball efficiently. In 2011, Henne will no longer be checking down to an aging Williams, rather the “Human Highlight” Reggie Bush. Fans can expect these dump passes to be turned from three-yard frustrations to 28 yard scampers that break a defense’s back. C Mike Pouncey. Assuming the first round rookie center out of the University of Florida can adjust successfully to the NFL as his twin brother was able to do in Pittsburgh, the Dolphins can expect a significant improvement up front. Sandwiched between AllPro guard Vernon Carey and league veteran Richie Incognito, Pouncey should adapt quickly to the League and emerge as an anchor in the

of retired inside linebacker and fan favorite, Channing Crowder. To replace the gaping hole, the Fins added Kevin Burnett, formerly of the Chargers and Cowboys via free agency. Burnett will complement last season’s major free agent acquisition, Carlos Dansby, very well. Burnett’s athletic ability to cover open field and stay with speed backs will allow Dansby to do what he does best: crush the run. If any player on the defensive side of the ball made a name for himself in 2010, it was defensive end Cameron Wake, who tallied 14 sacks and forced a double team throughout the second half of the season. He will now be complemented by Dolphin hero/traitor #99 Jason Taylor, who is making his triumphant return to South Florida after a season spent in 3. LB Kevin Burnett/ DE Jason the arms of the enemy in New York. Taylor. The Dolphins defensive unit The aging Taylor is in his 15th season proved in 2010 that it is much closer and surely fans will be hoping he to being an elite level unit than its show signs he can still rush the passer offensive counterpart. Ranking in as he did in his Dolphin glory days, the top ten of all major defensive accumulating double-digit sack totals statistical categories aside from points six times from 2000 to 2007. Even allowed, the unit as a whole proved if Taylor does not play up to his old more than capable against the average self, he will still require attention from offensive block schemes. This should league opponent. However, rivals Jets free up Wake to do what he does best, and Patriots averaged 30 points a game in 2010 against the Dolphins. cause havoc in opponent’s backfields. Entering 2011, the Dolphins If opponents choose to double Wake, defense had to deal with the the 6’6” Taylor should be able to immediate impact of the departure use his remaining athletic ability to

pressure the quarterback as well. The line backing quartet of Taylor, Wake, Burnett and Dansby rival any other defensive set in the AFC East and given the improvements made by the division rivals, this group gives the Fins their best chance to hang on in the East. So what can we expect from the Miami Dolphins in 2011? Excitement. We will see many YouTube highlight runs from Mr. Bush, spectacular onehanded grabs from Brandon Marshall, and Cameron Wake and Carlos Dansby planting opponents deep into the dirt and/or turf of SunLife Stadium. As usual, the Dolphins’ success as a team lives and dies with the quarterback, but unlike years past, the front office has surrounded Chad with just the right talent he needs to succeed. As Henne establishes some familiarity with offensive coordinator, Brian Daboll in the limited offseason he will be depending on the chemistry with Bush and the receiving core more than ever. The pieces are in place for Henne, and he should succeed. If he doesn’t it will certainly mean the end of Chad Henne in Miami and potentially for Coach Sporano as well. Vegas has the Fins at 7.5 wins in 2011. My opinion? Expect 7 wins but don’t be surprised if this uncelebrated bunch can wheel off 11-5 to win the Division and shock us all.

trenches. Much of the offensive success depends on Henne’s ability to connect with Brandon Marshall, Davone Bess and Brian Hartline on deep routes that stretch the defense. Henne has the arm strength to do so, but is only accurate when given the time from the line up front. Adding Pouncey to fellow first rounder Jake Long should put the finishing touches on a cohesive unit with enough talent to at least give Henne the opportunity to succeed. Loosening up opposing secondaries will of course give Bush the opportunity to run against a six or seven man front, creating a match up problem that ultimately will result in the offense putting up points in an explosive manner.

KVETCH...

got a future to secure. As I kept drinking, I began to realize how cool of a girl I am in comparison to these air-heads, which also made me realize why men are the way they are in Miami. Realistically, men don’t have to offer anything when pursuing these girls except maybe negative brain cells & their parent’s credit card. My advice to single girls in Miami: Travel. Jersey Shore is back on the air live from Florence, Italy. Now, Jersey Shore, Flava of Love & Basketball Wives have all filmed in Italy. If they don’t hate Americans by now they never will; those poor Italians. I love to watch Jersey Shore when I am feeling down & out about my own life because after 30 minutes of viewing those idiots, I feel so much better about myself. The best part of that show is the groupies that go home with those tools! I especially love when they take a break from sucking off each other’s faces in a nightclub to say “You know, I’m not like one of those... easy girls...” Deena, for simply having to tell

the guy that you aren’t an easy girl, let’s him and America know that you truly are an easy girl. Kim Kardashian was recently wed to Kris Humphries, let’s take a moment of silence to mourn his demise. Humphries unknowingly just sold his soul to Kris Jenner. I can’t wait to see the Kardashian women break down every last morsel of his man hood on national television for me to enjoy. I hope Kim made a special toast at her wedding to two of the most important men in her life for making her famous, OJ Simpson & Ray J. Amy Winehouse didn’t go to rehab, “no, no, no” and has left us for the ultimate high. Of course talk of the 27 club came about with this death, remembering Brian Jones, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison & Kurt Cobain. Justin Beiber turns 27 in 2021. Patience, my friends, patience. After all that bitching, I’d assume every reader thinks I’m a typical bitch. Curveball! Deep, deep down there is a teensy bit of niceness

in me. Here goes my moment of weakness: This week I watched the Do Something Awards and saw a new band called Foster The People perform live. They performed the single “Pumped Up Kicks”. I was taken aback by how good they were live and how awesome their look was. They sounded as good live as they do on the radio, which made me log into my iTunes account immediately & purchase the album “Torches”; best $9 spent this week. Labor Day is approaching and I’d like to end with taking a moment to remember all the men & women that gave their lives & are still fighting to secure our freedom. The 10 year anniversary of September 11 is this month as well, for those who were lost you are never forgotten and are always in our hearts. For daily bitchiness, follow me on Twitter: www.twitter.com/NicoleMundee I’d love to hear what the readers think of my debauchery! Your bitchy friend, Nicole Mundee

Kvetch is defined as a person who complains chronically. I am a kvetch. I’m also a bitch depending on how sensitive you are. If you’re easily offended or take life too seriously, you may not enjoy what I have to say. That being said: Let the bitching begin! Summertime is over & school is back in session so I figured I’d venture down to the grove to scope out some U.M. hotties. Not to my surprise, I was disappointed. I’m sure the fact that I went down there with 4 jappy girls didn’t help the situation much. Our first stop was a casual bar in which I ordered a bottled Miller Lite & the other girls ordered Pinot Grigio in a “chilled wine glass”. That was the first red flag with these women. The conversation proceeded to get extremely superficial, which proceeded to make me extremely bored. I love nice things but I can’t sit at a bar & ignore all the single men to talk about the newest Chanel purse. Sorry ladies but I’ve
