President’s Publication

These recent few weeks have given me quite an insight on what to look forward to this year. This last year was really special and I really am going to miss all the seniors. But with the year ending we have to look to our next challenge summer. My biggest plan for summer is to make it enjoyable and make it one of the most active and fun summers in Key Club history. With the summer comes laziness, but our Key Club plans to alleviate your boredom, by first planning lots of events in which you are able to attend, second also provide many socials that will guarantee social interactions, and finally plan pool parties for incoming freshman, incoming new members, and for basically everyone in Key Club.

Yours in Service,

Chandler Yoon

Editor’s Note

Hello friends! School’s finally out, which means you can dedicate 100% of your time to volunteering ;-). Just kidding, but don’t forget that your Key Club membership extends to summer! Get a head start on your fall semester hours by looking out for events and socials! Agendas and meetings will be posted on our Facebook page throughout the summer. Liking each post with the meeting video will count for attendance. Thank you all so much for wonderful year of service and participation. I look forward to another great year with y’all!!! Yours in Service,

Nadia Sahli

A Key Life Journey By Chaitra Kurati12, Fundraising As the year winds to a close, I look back on all the fun memories I’ve made in Key Club this year; the only difference is that this will be the last time I will be able to do so. Next year, many members of our club, including myself, will be leaving high school to pursue big things through college and other avenues. Taking all we've learned from Key Club and high school in general, we will turn to a new chapter in the books that are our lives. But first, let's take a little trip down memory lane shall we?

Freshman year. A couple weeks in, we poke our heads into the first meeting of the year of that one club whose display we saw at orientation. We stare up at the commanding presence in front of us. “That's the president,” a hushed whisper confirms. It's a blur from there on, an ice breaker, events are explained, before we know it the meeting is over and there is a crowd glommed up against the side-wall where the sign-up sheets are. The weekend comes and a groggy parent drops us off at the district convention center, mumbling about how it was too early for a school event. Our eyes wander, nervous about how this will go, until we find a group huddled near the school sign in with the same brilliant purple shirts on. Conversation ensues; we huddle together before we’re broken off into our tasks. We fall into a rhythm of assistance and before we know it, it’s already time to say goodbye to fellow volunteers and those running the event. Sophomore year, we have a much better idea of what’s going on. We’ve dragged at least one other person to the first Key Club meeting of the year, excited that they too will experience all that we have in the past year. We’ve used the words ELIMINATE Project a few times already in explaining what our club is all about. Maybe we’ve even decided to take up an officer position for the year. We’ve done a good job of revisiting the events we went to last year, adding new ones to our belt too as we meet even more wonderful people along the way. Most importantly though, we have developed a better understanding of the impact we have on our community and the world around us.

Junior year, we’re pummeled with the rigor of our classes. Even so, we still find the time in between late night cramming and group review to stay involved in Key Club. We may not have time to attend as many events as we used to, but we try our best. We may have been that one officer in charge of the Key Club booth at freshman orientation. And if we’re not a board member, we’re rooting on a friend who is as they take on the responsibility. District Convention is less of a distant possibility. Overall, we continue to volunteer our time, because we realize that this organization we’re a part of is so much bigger than ourselves. Senior year, we’re seasoned veterans. We’re the ones reciting the pledge proudly, the ones whose lead the newer members follow. Certain event organizers know us by name because we’ve been helping their cause since freshman year. We try to exemplify for the other members what Key Club is all about, and how the impact we make as a club extends beyond our community. We’re impacting our world. Along the way, we’ve learned a lot about leadership and service, and we continue to serve our community in any way possible, up until we leave our school grounds for good. Whichever part of the Key Club journey you’re on, Remember this: by being in Key Club you’re making a bigger impact on the world than you will ever know. You are embodying leadership, service, and many other values that you will be able to carry with you throughout life, wherever you decide to go and whatever you decide to do. Now, whether my fellow seniors and I will have the opportunity to stay with Kiwanis through our college years and adult life we do not know, but we will forever be grateful for all that Key Club has taught and allowed us to experience. With this, I wish everyone an amazing summer and a wonderful year following.
