Editor’s Note

HEY Y’ALL!!

Hello friends!

I can’t believe that it’s almost October!! It feels like we started school yesterday. There are so many wonderful things I’m looking forward to this year, such as, our Willies fundraising night, FTC, and DCON of course! I am very pleased to say that we have decided on our 2016-2017 Key club officers, and I can’t wait to see how successful this year becomes with the help of so many! We have also narrowed down our t-shirt for this year, so hopefully we can order those as soon as possible! The Key club deadline is quickly approaching so don’t forget to get those dues in! I would not want anyone to miss out on the opportunity to give back to their community by volunteering their time to such a wonderful club!

A month into school and the deadline to submit applications and dues is days away. We are so happy to welcome all of you to Key Club. The first few meetings have gone fantastically and we have also installed our new 20162017 officers! Contact information is coming soon. Also, we are constantly looking to improve our club, so do not hesitate to give us feedback on meetings and events!

Yours in Service,

Ice… Ice… Baby By Flora Yiakras11, Treasurer You’re in charge of the next Key Club social that is coming up and you can’t think of any fun activities or icebreakers for your group to do…. Sound familiar? I think every Key Club board member has been in this position before at some point in time. Luckily, you just stumbled across the perfect key kid to give you all the KEYS to create a SUPER FUN social with I have come to realize a reoccurring trend in successful socials, and that is the presence of food. Food is a necessity in our lives and will instantly spark your club members’ interest once mentioned. After that, you won’t even need advertising for the event, because the news will spread like wildfire among your members. “Hey! Are you going to the Key Club social today? There’s going to be food there!” Right away, you have gained your member’s interest and more than likely that will translate to attendance at your event! Once you have a reasonable amount of people who are willing to come to your event, you need to make sure to have fun icebreakers to get them mingling with each other. My personal favorite icebreaker is called “I love my neighbor who…”. It is very effective because it works with medium to large groups and keeps everyone fully engaged at all times. To play, you need to count how many people are in the group and provide each person with a sticky note. Direct all the members to gather around in a circle and place the sticky note at their feet. Then, one person goes in the middle of the circle and states “I love my neighbor who...” and then following that phrase, they state

If this applies to anyone standing on a sticky note, they must get off and find a new place to stand. Also, the person who

stated the fact must also try and find a new place to stand. Whoever is left without a spot stands in the middle and the process just repeats over and over again. The only rule of the game is that you can’t go to a spot on either side of the sticky note you came from! It is surprisingly fun and an interesting way to learn facts about your fellow Key Clubbers. Another fun icebreaker is the toilet paper game! You need to get a roll of toilet paper and instruct your members to take as much as they need and pass it around. Once everyone has some in their hand, you collect the toilet paper and then tell them that for every square of toilet paper they got, they have to tell the group one fact about themselves. You will find either people take a lot or a little and it’s a fun way to get to know others! With these methods, you’re sure to with engagement from all members despite size or age! Yay for no more boring socials!

a fact about themselves.
