A Modern Shaker Style
FLOORPLAN Shaker style was popular with their kitchen designs. I combined a an open kitchen and a living room with a storage unit as a divider. Fire place along the right wall symbolizes comfort and relaxation. The floor plan is spacious and balanced allowing easy circulation between people. Full length windows are placed diagonallyw opposite each other for both the spaces to get maximum daylight.

HISTORY Shaker style was originated in the early 1770s from a religious point of view, and founded in England. The aim was to create simple and functional furniture with clean, rigid, linear lines. Because of their simplicity, their communal living space was minimal, and every furniture on the plan had a strong purpose. The color palate of Shaker style was neutral, raw, honest because the use of wood! During this time, lots of handcrafted wood furniture were applied to their style.
DESCRIPTION With clean lines, unadorned forms and utterly practical applications, Shaker designs are, if anything, more relevant in today’s hectic world than they were in the 18th century. All the furniture I chose have clean, sharp lines, nothing is organic. Everything has a geometric shape like rectangular, cirlce or square. The kitchen is pretty basic, the drawer follow class Shaker style interiors. I believe, Shaker designs fit very well in the 21st century, since residents like to fill in their homes with furniture, but they organize it well so it doesn’t look chaotic. The is the living room elevation facing the fireplace. Above the fire place is a wooden single shelve to place some decoration to create a mood. I have placed some pots mainly shades of blues to emphasize my color palate which is neutral with absent color of blue. The chair represents the Old Fashioned Classic Shaker style Rocking Chair with high back and wide headrest. I wanted to create a similar iconic piece as the Rocking Chair so I found an elipitical round chair with a high back that is comfortable and made out of white leather. You can easily rest on it for hours and also take naps because of its comfortness. I located it right next to the fireplace so that the users can get some heat and rest.
LIVING ROOM Fireplace is a key decoration in every Shaker style homes. In order to create a modern aspect, I added decorations to fill in the empty space on top of the fire place. Plants are located in different areas to create a fresh and lively environment. Color palette is muted, earth toned and natural, which helps making the interior spacious and open. Furniture are aligned to give a sense of a circulation.
