Project: Sanitation and health program – the second part of healthy kids involves teaching the kids about health issues e.g. sanitation, HIV/AIDS, nutrition.

AHCP

Description of activities 1. Teaching kids about different health issues especially sanitation and HIV/AIDS 2. Creating and carrying out relevant projects such as Toothbrushes for Kibera 3. Assisting in organizing the Healthy Kids’ health week and providing support 4. Fundraising and sourcing for partners for AHCP’s different projects and programs Note: This Job Description requires open minded and proactive people who can start and run their own projects without much supervision For more information visit africahcp.wix.com

HEALTHY KIDS PROGRAMME:

Duration: 6weeks min Period: 01 July-15 August (start date is REQUIRED) Number of interns: 3 doctors and 1 pharmacist

Routine health check up on the children from the Kibera slums

Benefit: -Working space -Internet Required: - Intern must be at least a third year student of medicine or pharmacy student - Excellent English


HEALTHY KIDS

Description of activities 1.Give physical examination and clinical diagnosis to kids between 0 and 14years old 2.Report daily challenges and difficulties to the executive officer and, when required, generate progress reports on project activities 3.Regular meetings with AHCP staff and volunteers 4. Conducting fundraising via funding proposals, presentation and events. Interns are encouraged to come up with innovative funding methods to help the organization become sustainable to buy and give free medicine for the kids 5.Define HIV| AIDS marker disease 6.Help AHCP to develop new initiatives including: the child protection and counseling program, women's literacy circles, HIV/AIDS training and sensitization and the feeding programs in the schools.

LIVERPOOL VCT CARE AND TREATMENT (LVCT) KENYA: A large HIV/AIDS organization that runs different projects

Duration: minimum 6 weeks No. of interns required: 3 Date: 01 May— 31 December 2013

LVCT

Description of activities 1. Community mobilization around the issue of HIV/AIDS 2. Communications concerning blogs and PR 3. Implementation of preventions and mitigation measures 4. FARAJA CANCER SUPPORT CENTRE Project: Craft for Cure Craft for Cure is an art therapy program for kids with cancer

Duration: 6weeks min preferably 3 months Period: 01 May 2013– 30 September 2013 No. of interns: 2

FARAJA

Description of activities 1. Developing and improving the Craft for Cure project- an art therapy 2. program with children with cancer 3. Conducting weekly visits to the kids (Craft for Cure team leader) every Friday 4. Working on various tasks at Faraja Cancer Centre from Monday to Thursday 5. Managing the website 6. Requirements Stage       

Have a visa Have all the necessary vaccinations Have medical coverage Have a doctors letter in case of any medical conditions Preparation of teaching methods to be used. Interns' stories can be found in the following links: Common housing is provided through intern housing - 200 USD per month, breakfast and dinner provided. Laundry provided for intern housing. Host family (if one is available)-interns may pay between 58 and 82 USD per month just as support to the family for expenses that will be incurred. Two meals are provided. INTERNET: Modem sticks can be purchased for internet. There is also internet at the AIESEC UON office. Please note that transport is not provided. Prices shown are based on the current exchange rate at time of Ksh.85 per 1USD. English language required.
