HYDERABAD - THE HUB OF SIKHISM (SIKHI, SIKH ROAD , SIKH VILLAGE , SIKH CHOWNI)
There may be only one place on our planet which can boast a conglomeration of these four elements of Sikhism and their holy places , the Gurudwaras . This place is Hyderabad and its twin city of Secunderabad, the capital of Telangana State. Many people may not be aware of these facts. There has been a long history of Sikhs coming to South India in general and to Hyderabad in particular. The historical records in print show that Sikhism struck roots in this part of the world with the arrival of around 300 Sikhs from Punjab at Nanded in 1708 alongwith Guru Gobind Singh ji. Nanded , now in Maharashtra State was then part of princely state of Nizam of Hyderabad. Then around 1830, Maharaja Ranjit Singh sent 150 men for the construction of Gurdwara Takht Sachkhand Sri Hazur Sahib Abchalnagar at Nanded in the memory of Guru Gobind Singh who breathed list last in Nanded on 7th October 1708. While some of these Sikhs went back to their native place on completion of the Gurudwara ,
many of them stayed back and settled in and around Hyderabad. Those who settled in Hyderabad married local women, raised Sikh families, and built Gurudwaras wherever they were living in sufficient numbers. Their descendents started performing marriages within the budding Sikh community, mostly concentrated in towns such as Hyderabad/Secunderabad, Nanded, Aurangabad, Nizamabad, Karimnagar and Warangal. The total population of Sikhs as per 1911 census rose to 4,637. They came to be known as Dakkhani (Southern) Sikhs , preserving their religious and cultural identity, observing the sanctity of five Ks as the true Sikhs of Guru Gobind Singh Ji. Several Sikhs found employment in the irregular forces of the Nizam. The real influx of Sikhs here started especially in Hyderabad /Secunderabad , when they were uprooted from Pakistan after independence to find new abode for settlement . They were mostly traders. They started calling their uprooted relatives looking for a place with congenial environment for their... NOVEMBER 2020 - 001
settlement , as they were deeply influenced the way of life of the Dakkhani Sikhs. Their population started increasing manifold rising to 30,998 as per 2001 Census . SIKH ROAD AND SIKH VILLAGE With the large migration of Sikhs to South India in general and to the areas mentioned above in particular, two prominent areas by name Sikh Village and Sikh Chovni came up during different periods . The book “Sikhs in the Deccan and North-East India by S. Birinder Pal Singh highlights to great extent the evolution of these two areas connected with the Sikhs . This scholarly work provided a major intervention in the understanding of the dynamics of the migrations of Sikhs to Hyderabad and Nanded in earlier periods . It traces the historical roots of certain migrant Sikh communities to the South and examines the socio-economic conditions of Sikhs , believed to be the descendants of
the soldiers in Maharaja Ranjit Singh's army who were dispatched to Hyderabad and Nanded in the early nineteenth century. The Secunderabad area, then a small suburb of Hyderabad and at present the capital of Telangana State , where these Sikhs were made to camp initially , came to be known as Sikhul Thota , and later as Sikh Village . As per records, the name has been attributed to some of the Nizam's troops of Sikh community being settled here a century ago. The landscape of the Sikh village was largely lush green fields of fruits and vegetables hence the name Thota, was prefixed . The road abetting this village came to be known as Sikh Road .There is a Gurudwara and a Temple , a unique combination under the same roof in this village. In pre-Partition India, Hyderabad Deccan was qualified as the abode of the Dakhani Sikhs and other Sikh communities in the South . These three place are shown in the map and satellite imagery below-
Part of map of Hyderabad Secunderabad NOVEMBER 2020 - 002
Currently there are many Sikhs in this area with flourishing business as contractors, transporters, industrialists, educationists, lawyers and farming . They have now become part of the main stream forming an important element in the States of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh . Their combined population in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Was 40,244 as per 2011 Census. A large number of defence officers , mostly from the army , have been settling here in Hyderabad / Secunderabad after retirement from Corps of EME and Ordinance , where they have a number of Training Centers and their units . Their number has been rising and may reach one lakh by 2021 . There are 41 Gurudwaras in and around the twin cities of Hyderabad – Secunderabad. The most prominent of them are at Secunderabad , Afzalganj , Ameerpet , Autonagar ,Gowligudda , Ballanagar ...
,Alwal ,Manovikasnagari,j Rehmatnagar ,Seetaphalmandi ,Asha Singh Bagh and Barambala Attapur also known as Sikh Chowni. The Gurudwara in the Sikh Chowni is the largest gurudwara in Telangana State with a capacity to accommodate around 10,000 persons . They have also made arrangements in their premises to respectfully give farewell to old gutakas (holy books/booklets) and non-usable copies of Sri Guru Granth Sahib . In addition, there are army run unit Gurudwaras of Army Ordnance Corps , Artillery Center , and of Corps of Electrical Mechanical Engineers (EME) . The layout of EME Gurudwara and its building are magnificent . This Gurudwara has become a land mark of attraction for visitors coming to Hyderabad. All gurupurabs are celebrated with gaiety , pump and show. The major gurupurabs are also celebrated at other gurudwaras . Brig J S Ahuja (Retd) NOVEMBER 2020 - 003

UNKNOWN MANIBEN & AN UNGRATEFUL COUNTRY Maniben Patel was Sardar's only daughter. When only 16 she switched to Khadi and worked in Gandhi Ashram! When 17 she put all her gold bangles, earrings Gold Wrist Watch and all ornaments & jewelleries in a bundle of cloth and obtaining her Father's nod, deposited them in Gandhi Ashram, for the cause of freedom. All the garments Sardar used to wear after 1921 were woven out of the yarn made by Maniben. Unlike Nehru's daughter Indira, Maniben was a freedom fighter, who actively participated in the non-cooperation movement. In 1928, in the Bardoli Satyagraha she helped out Satyagrahis in Camps. She was arrested and Jailed in 1930 in the Salt Satyagraha! Thereafter, she was arrested and jailed on several occasions. Defying ban in Bardauli, arrested in 1932 again re-arrested for defying ban in Kheda and Sentenced to 15 months imprisonment, for arousing people in villages of Rajkot arrested in 1938! Gandhiji complimented the girl that he had not seen another daughter like Maniben!
Under Gandhiji's selective disobedience, Maniben was arrested in 1940 and was released from Belgaum jail in May 1941. When she again wanted to court arrest Gandhiji had prevented this frail girl for ill-health! She got arrested during Quit India 1942 with Kasturba Gandhi and released in March 1944 and again re-arrested in May 1944 in Bardauli and was sent to Surat Jail & then to Yervada jail! She didn't marry and served her father till Sardar Died in 1950! Here is a shocking episode relating to Maniben based on various sources, specifically Dr Kurien's autobiography: 'I too had a dream'! Sardar Patel had no bank balance or property! Even though he had substantial earnings as a very Successful Lawyer, he gave up everything after plunging into the Freedom movement. He used to say: THOSE IN POLITICS SHOULD NOT HOLD PROPERTY, AND I HOLD NONE!

Nehru didn't ask if she was in need of any assistance or help! Nehru didn't ask, if he could do anything for her! Nehru, not to speak of sympathy, had shown absolutely no interest in her! For him, after receiving the huge sum of Rupees 35 lakhs Maniben didn't exist! Maniben went back to Ahmedabad to stay with a cousin the rest of her life, forgotten by an Ungrateful Country ! (Today Everybody in India may think Sardar a Big Fool) When Sardar died, he kept nothing for his daughter! With Sardar no more she had to vacate the house! With no roof over her head and no money Maniben had to fend for herself! Obeying Sardar's parting instruction, Maniben had gone to Nehru to hand over a bag and a book! Dutifully, she took an appointment with PM Nehru, she handed over the bag and the book to Nehru in person! The book was an Account Book! The bag contained rupees Thirty Five Lakhs! (It was 1950)! After delivering both to Nehru, she waited a while!

Questions & Answers: 1. What is your definition of Self-Assertive Verses? Self-Assertive Verses are the newest genre in Tamil poetic world. Here, it is called as “THANMUNAIKKAVITHAIGAL”. In my perspective, Self-Assertive Verses give freedom to express one’s self by narrowing the flow of emotions. It follows only a few rules to write profoundly with the aspect of wow factor. It is very easy to write for Haiku poets. It provides liberty for writers to pen what they think. 2. List down the basic rules for writing Self-Assertive Verses. 1. Self-Assertive Verses should not have the title. 2. It should have only four lines. 3. Each line should not get exceed more than 3 words, except articles, conjunctions, interjections and prepositions in English. 4. The first two lines must convey a meaning independently. 5. The rest two lines may support or stand against the meaning of the first two lines. 6. Subjects of the verse can be you, me, the world, nature, philosophy and society.
7. The verse may contain personifications, imaginary, simile, rhyme scheme and metaphors. 8. It must have sharp and crispy words to convey the meaning profoundly. 9. It can express any mood of the poet/poetess. 3. What is your favourite anthology that you have written? Why? My ever-loving anthology is “NAAN NEE INDHA ULAGAM” (I You This World – Self-Assertive Verses). Because, it is the first anthology that introduced Self-Assertive Verses in Tamil literature. This term was coined by Kavichudar Ka.Na. Kalyana Sundaram. The title of this book was really amazing and I was one of the co-compliers of this book which had the poems of 52 renowned Tamil poets and poetesses across the world. When I think about the book, I feel as standing in seventh heaven. 4. When did you start to recognise as a Poetess in Tamil literary world? After I won more than 200 online Tamil poetry competitions on various topics within 18 months, I was started to get recNOVEMBER 2020 - 008
ognition as a Poetess gradually. I was the only Indian winner of International English Haiku competition that was conducted by “IAFOR KOBE JAPAN”. I won this competition by the commendatory entries on 2018. Then, the literary world recognized me as a Poetess completely. 5. As a Director of THISAIGAL WEB RADIO, how do you engage the listeners? I am leading an energetic crew who are talented in this platform. We have variety of programmes to cater the needs of various listeners. We design programmes for all age groups. We organise literary, cultural, health and children programmes. We arrange many kinds of music programmes based on the celebration of events and festivals. 6. As a homemaker, how do you manage your time for your literary works? In my perspective, homemaker is a job of 24x7 for 365 days. My extended family has 8 members. We are always busy with familial affairs throughout the year. i.e. celebrating festivals with relatives and friends. But, my love on literature never decrease. I always have books and notepads to write what get to my mind. I manage my valuable time by using “To Do List” and “Checklist”, and I prioritize what I should do next. 7. How your college studies support your field of work? As a double postgraduate degree holder, my education helps me to plan and work well in the literary world. It enhances the quality of content with consistency. I am built of experience as well as education. 8. What did you do before you had started to write Tamil poems? I was an amateur writer to write slogans for college campaigns.
When I was doing a job, my poems were published in “KUMUDHAM”, top commercial Tamil magazine (2000). Then, I went to live in Northern states of India and was very busy with my family and job. But, I used to write diaries regularly. From 1996 to 2012, I was working as a hardcore sales person in an automobile industry. I had sold a few thousands of cars, such are Honda, GM and TATA. I won many awards and promoted as CEO of a dealership. I was managing two showrooms and gave progress in my job. After 12 years, I set myself to be a writer on 2013. 9. What are your literary contributions other than writing poetry? I am an orator who speak in debates and seminars. I have given a 2-hours of non-stop speech on Tamil Haiku. I am fascinating in writing recipes for cooking. I wrote 250 recipes in English under a self-brand, M/S SHANKARI CAFÉ. It covers 11 states in India. I write and sing songs for YouTube channels. I am the Director of THISAIGAL WEB RADIO. I act as a jury in various poetry competitions. 10. What do you want to tell for budding writers in Indian languages? As I have known four Indian languages, I emphasize budding writers to know at least three Indian languages. It paves way to read works from other languages and write on the same plot in one’s own language. Language is the tool for culturalism and technology gives opportunities for everyone to be a writer. I believe that writers are mirrors of the society. So, you can represent your society by your works. Write to express the modern India and also reflect the socio-economic issues of your... Home Coming of a Hero. ! By Gaanappriya Mohan Yogesh When you go home, tell them that we gave our today for their tomorrow.. India fought one of the major wars – the Kargil war during the summer of 1999 from May1999 – July 1999. Though the official victory of the war was on July 26,1999, there are families that have been losing their loved ones at the borders due to the tensions built. This is a tale of a Kargil war Veteran Capt Naveen Nagappa Sena Medal, who climbed up the Kargil hills on July 2019, for the first time after the war. He survived the Kargil war at Pt 4875 at the cost of losing his fellow brother in arms. A story of grit, power, determination and discipline is retold in my words. Back in 1999, a young Mechanical Engineer who had the lavish option to go to the United States of America or any such foreign countries of his choice to have a comfortable life chose to remain with the Indian Army. In January 1999, unaware of the war ahead, unaware of the consequences of the war, unaware of the losses he will go through, Capt(Retd) Naveen Nagappa was commissioned in the 13th Battalion Jammu & Kashmir Rifles (Jak Rif) of Indian Army. Within less than 6 months of his commissioning, came a surprise to the whole nation, about the Pak. Infiltrators who had started occupying the Kargil Mountains and most of the points that belonged to India. From mid-May, the Kargil War was officially announced. When the team members had already gone up there to fight, Lt Naveen was there without fighting. He went ahead and requested his then CO Col YK Joshi to permit him to lead a team for fighting. After a long discussion, the new joinee – Lt.Naveen Nagappa, was given about 120 men with an assignment to capture point 4875, Mushkoh valley's Indian Bunkers. Just before the journey of victory, Lt
Naveen addressed his boys, "I WILL NOT LET ANYONE OF YOU HAPPEN ANYTHING & WILL BE READY TO EVEN SACRIFICE MY LIFE TO SAVE U. I WILL NOT BE THE MAN WHO WILL RUN AWAY. EVEN IF I DIE IN THE WAR, I WILL HAVE BULLETS ON MY CHEST BUT NOT MY BACK. I MAY HAVE THE DEARTH OF EXPERIENCE BUT NOT THE DEARTH OF SPIRIT." With such an inspirational speech, he vouched," No matter what, we will unfurl the Indian Flag and hoist it there (at the point), and only then will we return." After capturing one bunker, Lt Naveen was reaching to another bunker stealth of Pt 4875. The war was on. Continuous fighting and bombardment, 4th morning, 4th night, 5th Morning, 5th night, 6th Morning, 6th night, and 7th Morning. How did the unit fight continuously? What made them fight? It was sheer patriotism and brotherhood. And during this fight, a grenade landed in the bunker from where Lt Naveen was fighting. The Lt, who was well trained on handling the grenade, however, with the physique that had been fighting for more than three days, realized that he can't pick up the grenade within two to three seconds and throw it back to the enemy bunker. His quick reaction to the situation was that the explosion is inevitable, and he wanted his upper body and face it to reach home as one piece while he can afford to lose his lower body. Realizing his fellow brother in arms was in grave danger, the SherShah of Kargil, Capt. Vikram Batra pulled Lt Naveen from the bunker, and this act of Capt Batra is remembered by Lt Naveen every day," Probably that is what saved my life." Capt Batra fought valiantly with the boys and captured point 4875 on July 7,1999, and in the process, attained martyrdom. When Lt Naveen was taken to a lower point and was helicop-ed to the hospital, in his half-con sciousness, he witnessed the Indian Flag NOVEMBER 2020 - 013
flying high at Pt 4875. The sense of pride and satisfaction was equal to none. Lt. Naveen told himself that whatever was going to happen after the hoisting in irrelevant, and he had played his role with sincerity and was successful. The satisfaction or the sedatives made Lt Naveen close his eyes. In the grenade blast, Lt Naveen's legs were severely injured. He was in the Artificial Limb Center, Pune. The following 21 days after the attack, Lt. Naveen's legs were tied. He underwent 8 major surgeries and was bedridden for 21 months. For his valor and bravery during the war, Lt Naveen was promoted as Capt Naveen Nagappa and was awarded, Sena Medal. However, he was officially boarded out of Army. Doctors said that he would not be able to walk ever again, without any support. Twenty years passed by(1999 – 2019). Not a day goes for Capt Naveen without remembering his beloved Vicky sir (Capt Vikram Batra., Param Vir Chakra), who had saved his life. Losing many comrades in the war had a very massive impact on Capt Naveen that he was never able to visit the place where his boys won, where he lower parts of the body were shattered, where his beloved Capt Vikram Batra chose to make the supreme sacrifice, where he lost his buddies. Nevertheless, when the order came from his then Commanding officer, who is presently Gen YK Joshi, to trek the point 4875 to recreate the memories of the Kargil War, Rejoice the victory, remember the Heroes and renew the memories, Capt Naveen, who is still a soldier in heart and mind, obeyed the order and set off for the journey. Capt Naveen Nagappa and eight other officers made it to Point 4875, which is now called Batra Top, along with Mr. Vishal Batra, who replaced the position of his identical twin, the SherShah – Capt Vikram Batra, ParamVir Chakra(P). It was an emotional movement to see the whole team letting out the War Cry of 13 – JAK RIF: Durga Mata Ki, Jai!
Not only, Capt Naveen, but there were also thousands of such soldiers who are out there safeguarding the country and her pride. About 527 warriors laid down their lives in the Kargil war of 1999. Twenty years down the lane, they have pain, memories, pride, and some citations. All citations mention their bravery, how valiantly the soldiers fought the war. But no citation explained how the soldiers disregarded their own safety and fought, how their feelings of brotherhood made them fight back ferociously, how the soldiers fought despite their fevers, how the boys volunteered to go with their officers, how the men protected each other, saying that "aap bachche wale log hai (you are a family man and have a wife and kids to look after!), and many more…
Along With Capt Naveen, the father of Major Sandeep unnikrishnan (26/11 Blast Martyr), family of Major Akshay Girish (Nagrota Martyr), and Desh Family with its founder Mrs Adrija Sen. Team Desh, with his family members, wanted to give the hero a surprise and a warm Home Coming, which was due for Twenty Years. Mrs. Sowmya Naveen, Ms.Savera Naveen, along with the sisters, sister – in – law, Aunts, Friends, and his extended family DESH, Parents of martyrs, Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan and Major Akshay Girish were waiting with bated breath to receive the braveheart, who had climbed up the icy top of point 4875 despite his physical conditions. When Capt Naveen was about to book a cab for his home from the airport, a huge crowd greeted him with placards, signboards, and a chorus war – cry. Capt Naveen was overwhelmed with such a warm homecoming. For, this is the least that we, as citizens of India, could give the soldier. NOVEMBER 2020 - 014

Insight into Freedom
Mansi Sharma MA in Mass Communication, Writer
Insight into Freedom The meaning of the word freedom varies from person to person. For a hungry person, every morsel of food is a means of freedom from hunger. For an African man, freedom means free from domination on ethnic grounds. According to Russian philosopher consensus means freedom. There is real freedom of release from prison for life imprisonment. Death is the only measure of freedom for a person suffering from incurable and admirable illness. The meaning of freedom for me is different from all this. The accepted definition of freedom is 'absence of restrictions'. I also believe in it. In many areas of life, which do not directly affect others, I want to live in them as I wish. Such as food, clothing and interests etc., personal aspects of my life like education, business or marriage. I will undoubtedly seek advice from my family members on all these, but the choice will ultimately be mine that kind of freedom, I believe. When I stepped into a wide world after getting education, I found that policy provides real freedom related to political, social and economic aspects of life. I am
very happy to be a citizen of the world's largest democratic country. Here every citizen enjoys political freedom and fundamental rights but we have to follow the fundamental duties as well that’s the other side of the coin in our constitution. The food of one person should not become poison for another, that is, the rights of one person should not be an obstacle to the rights of another person. This system is possible only when freedom is coordinated with discipline. No one can succeed in achieving freedom if the students start demanding freedom of copying, political parties to spread chaos in common life, people of criminal tendency to fulfil their personal interests, freedom of their antisocial activities. Therefore, many types of laws, rules and conditions are required to maintain discipline. I prefer the freedom of self discipline than the above charged discipline. Mansi Sharma

Brain Drain - Mother India
D. Brinda Govt. high school, Melpattampakkam Cuddalore, Tamil nadu
Brain drain Brain drain literally means immigration of skilled and educated members from motherland to other nation. These members get education from mother land and when a chance comes to work, they prefer to work for another country for better salary. After getting qualified they feel proud to fly to other countries and get job they feel proud to settle in other country. They even act as if they belong to another country and they find fault with the mother country. They tell so many reasons like political, technological and the like. The bright economic prospects pull them forcefully. They feel great to have Employment opportunity and get a Green Card and settle there. They travel to faraway places and settle comfortably. Thus, the talented members brain is drained. Their resources are used by other Nation. They feel delighted to get lumpsum fat 6-digit salary and leads a happy life. They also complain that the technology is not good in India and the salary is not enough. For all of them it has become a fashion and a passion. Flying with a lot of reason. They feel they are safeguarded and secured also feel very happy to be in the lap of another country. They feel their knowledge is utilized well.
It is like a mother waiting for her son to serve her, mother India too waits for the children and serve the nation, but disappointed. How will your mother feel if a child deserts and serves another mother? same way Mother India too feels sad. As a gardener waits for the harvest of the crop, Mother India too waits for the citizen to yield crop, alas! they do not know the real value of the mother land but they neglect Mother India. It is a heavy loss for the nation. Beyond Technology, beyond money, beyond luxury something is there, that is love, love for the motherland we call it as patriotism. If we don’t show our love, care and concern for motherland in this way, how else are we going to show our love for the mother land? Taking and utilizing our scholarship, stipend and counselling enjoying all privilege while studying, later flying away means, what is the justice? in what way it is logic? How nice if all the educated people serve in India like doctors, teachers, engineer software people, scholars, India will surely become number one country in the whole world. Different problems are there, everywhere we must learn to adjust and understand. it is really pathetic to notice that all the Nobel Prize winners except Rabindranath Tagore settled abroad. My blood boils when I hear Indians uttering I belong to ….. nation, I am a citizen of ….. I am a green card holder of ….. I am a permanent citizen of …. and so on. They are happy over there and doing the best. They are doing a lot for other country and making them proud. develop and improve, in fact the brain drain helps other country’s growth and development. Our country’s strength is lost. The real strength lies in the efficient people, but they suck the blood of the mother nicely and desolated just like that. Still mother India waits for her dear children with outstretched arms D. Brinda NOVEMBER 2020 - 017
Tales Talk Maninder Singh Makker
Why do we need a Master? Once upon a time, a cow went out to graze in the jungle. Suddenly, she noticed a tiger racing towards her. She turned and fled, fearing that at any moment the tiger would sink his claws into her. The cow desperately looked for someplace to escape and at last, saw a shallow pond. Barely evading the tiger’s reach, she jumped into the pond, and in the heat of the chase, the tiger blindly leaped after her. To the surprise of them both, the pond was extremely shallow yet filled with deep recesses of mud. After toppling over each other, the cow and the tiger found themselves a short distance apart, stuck in the mud up to their necks. Both had their heads above water but were unable to free themselves no matter how much they writhed. The tiger repeatedly snarled at the cow and roared, “I am going to enjoy the sound of crunching your bones between my teeth!” He thrashed about in fury but soon became fretful as he found no prospect of escape. The cow thoughtfully laughed as the tiger struggled to free himself and asked him, “Do you have a master?”
The tiger disdainfully replied, “I am the king of the jungle. Why do you ask me if I have a master? I myself am the master!” The cow said, “You may be the king of the jungle, but here all your power has failed to save your life.” “And what about you?” Retorted the tiger. “You are going to die here in this mud too!”’ The cow smiled mildly and said, “No, I am not.” “If even I, the king of the jungle cannot free myself from this mud”, snapped the tiger, “Then how can you, an ordinary cow?” The cow gently replied, “I cannot free myself from this mud, but my master can. When the sun sets and he finds me absent at home, he will come looking for me. Once he finds me, he will raise me up and escort me home sweet home.” The tiger fell silent and coldly glared at the cow. Soon enough, the sunset and the cow’s master arrived. He immediately recognized the plight she was in and lifted her to safety. As they walked home, the cow and the master both felt renewed gratitude for one another and pitied the tiger they both would have been happy to save if only the tiger had allowed them. The cow represents a surrendered heart, the tiger represents an egoistic mind, and the master represents the Guru. The mud represents the world, and the chase represents the struggle for existence therein. Debrief : Its good to be independent and not rely on anyone. But don't take it to an extreme, you always need a partner/coach/mentor who will be always on the lookout for you. Richi Gusani Travellor's Mornings at Mountains How the tea tastes in the morning, while seeing the rising sun from seating on a mountain?.. Its divine !! The steam reaches your lips, makes you feel the warmth aroma of it…and you cannot resist your hand to take a sip of tea. As your mouth filled, it feels like millions of tiny buds in mind has awaken and as you gulp it down, the sensations of rising buds emerges into your entire body and that makes you feel surmounting. The more you feel this at the time of sunrise, the more you can connect with the rising sun. The cooing and chirping of birds, breezy wind making you feel alive by touching forehead, cheeks, nose tips, neck, fingertips. You feel it more when you tenderly close your eyes, feeling the breeze passing by your closed eyes. All these tiny acts becomes treasurable when you are seating at the place from where you can see sun rising. It spots simply and quietly.. like a small kid hiding himself behind curtain but, still, he is showing his face with a tiny smile on his face. Gradually it starts appearing and lastly takes place in the sky, like a king who deserves the sovereignty after winning the battles …and it’s a moment to wait for life time…
The warmth of the rays releasing from Sun makes your body go heavenly crazy. Goosebumps gets on you and makes you forget everything for a moment. It becomes an absolute peace and then you see it all. The amount of visuals you see are mind boggling. The vast expanse of sky in front of you filled with indefinite width and the land beneath you assuring you are a tiny part of this cosmos yet you feel, you are heveanly lucky to be a part of such spectacular sight. Usually, feeling such mornings are nearly impossible in day-to-day scheduled life. But it really gives elite experience in the duration of scheduled break or on the trip.. First one is always special. So my first one will be always special for me because it has built the base for my love towards mountain trekking and travelling. My experience to see the rising sun started, when I went on a trip to Shimla and then Dalhousie. My day started with a cup of tea and seating on a place, from where I could see rising sun from the mountain. That spent moments of 10-15 minutes was more auspicious than any other time of the day. The hill station is a dream come true for trekking fiends as it offers the best..... NOVEMBER 2020 - 019
trekking paths for beginners. As you pass through the verdant surroundings, you can't resist yourself from soaking in the tranquility, that smell of dry leaves and calmness of the place. My Shimla Trip gave me an unforgettable memories of ..mornings at mountaion, living in a wooden cottage, chance to meet new people, to connected with the local people, glimpsing their ability to manage life with little resources yet to have positive approach about place and constant efforts to maintain the beauty of place. What I gained during Dalhousie trek was astonishingly lovely trek sideaway foliages which made me speechless while walking and observing it. All trees, plants, tiny shrubs were seemed so megical when the sunrays were falling on it. They shaded from lush green to light green and sun rays
were like a fingers of God, tendery touching entire flora !! On the way to Kalatop from Lakkarmandi (a specific place) was a living heaven for me, where I got a chance to see the amazing views of the beautiful landscapes. The surrounding was so spectacular at trek path, that I could not content my self by just gazing it and walking ahead. Each time I saw somthing attractive at lush of trees and plants, my legs would just trapped there and the view had a such megical aura, which was mesmerizing me completely. Waking up to see beautiful mornings in such green mountains, are those memories which has fresh views even today. When I close my eyes and remember those scenes it flashes in front of me, divinely. Freedom - Teacher Talk
Priyanka Patel
Freedom of expression is enshrined in the article 19 of the UNITED NATIONS Universal Declaration of Human Rights. It discusses in broad terms the human rights that each of us has. This is protected legally by various international treaties. Freedom of expression also underpins other human rights such as the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion. It is also closely linked to freedom of association - the right to form and join clubs, societies, trade unions or political parties with anyone you choose; and freedom of peaceful assembly. free press reporting on the issues that interest us and shape our lives is a key building block of any rights-respecting society. Freedom of speech, or freedom of expression, applies to ideas of all kinds, including those that may be deeply offensive. While international law protects free speech, there are instances where speech can legitimately restricted under the same law – such as when it violates the rights of others, or, advocates hatred and incites discrimination or violence. The Digital Frontier - But freedom of expression today still often depends on...
wealth, privilege and our place in society. Those who are rich and powerful are seldom restricted in expressing their views.. Similarly, those who have their own laptops with broadband, have far greater access to information than those who have to walk miles to an internet café. Have you ever thought what does the word “freedom” mean? I think it is quite an abstract thing which is different for each individual. For example, for me, freedom means doing something that I want if it doesn’t harm other people. However, it cannot be described in simple words, because the word itself contains numerous deeper meanings. It depends on the individual understanding of freedom, and each of us understands it in different ways. Someone thinks that the freedom is connected with the right to say anything the person wants without a fear of being punished or restricted of doing so. Others think that freedom is connected in walking anywhere they want. Some people think that freedom is your right to choose the government. But no one can say, what is the freedom itself? And in my essay, I have decided to drive deeply into the issue of freedom definition and share my thoughts what does freedom actually means. I agree that freedom is the right to speak and do everything you want, but only when it doesn’t limit others rights and freedoms. Numerous countries don’t have freedom for their citizens. People are not allowed to criticize their government and cannot freely express their opinion on public. And when they are trying to say something different from the opinion of their government they are being punished. There, people can be fined or imprisoned because of their will to have freedom. When I hear the word freedom from others, I am thinking about the freedom of choice. This meaning of freedom is easy to understand. People usually connect it with the elections. When there are several politic......................................................... NOVEMBER 2020 - 021
parties to choose from the person experiences freedom when choosing the one he or she believes in most. Of course, there are countries where politics is connected with the criminal world, and their people don’t have freedom of choice because of corruption, and their choice was paid for by someone else. But there are people who in these countries fight for liberty and sometimes they are changing everything. Like it was in Georgia and then in Ukraine, because their people understood what freedom is and that the choices they made before were not right. Freedom can also be connected with the right of opening your own business and gain the financial independence. You can produce goods and services and work on your own. But in corrupted countries, I think it is impossible to open your own business without criminal support. That is because the economy of such countries is not healthy and competition is not connected with marketing and advertising activities, but in real money, which you are ready to pay corrupted law enforcement officers and criminals to start your business and then maintain it. And countries, where freedom is respected, provide equal opportunities for all. In this particular case, freedom is joined with financial wellness. There are also cases when freedom means the right to say “no”. If you don’t agree with the government decision, community decision or another person decision you can say “no”. You don’t need to follow these decisions and you will never be punished for that. But this works only in cases when your ideas and actions do not violate the law and won’t cause harm to the people around you. So what does freedom mean to me? At my opinion freedom can be connected with not following standard our society has. Freedom is something beyond stereotypes and templates and real personal freedom is a strong opportunity to express
yourself in any possible way. Tattoos, piercing, hair style or clothes, we are free to wear or do anything with our body, and this is our freedom of expression. People why are thinking beyond stereotypes understand and respect that freedom. Freedom is a way of thinking and understanding world around us, and each person understands it in his or her own way, and of course all of us has an own understanding of it. And each of us in some cases needs to fight for this freedom. I am also thinking that freedom is actions of individuals who don’t need to ask themselves “why?” and just do things they love to do. Freedom is the absence of borders; you can feel freedom in your mind and freedom around you. Imagine that you are at the mountain peak and the world is a small point at the bottom. Do you feel freedom surrounding you? I can bear that you are! That is the real freedom which has a smell of wind and mountains, the skies in front of you. Birds are free to fly anywhere, and I can say for sure that you can also choose your own route. So freedom can be connected with anything, either actions or thoughts and each person free to express his or her freedom if it doesn’t limit or violates the rights of others. Freedom is around us, and our understanding of this word is different but always closely connected with people around us. Freedom to choose, freedom to do, understand, think, get or any other verb we can insert after the word freedom. It is great to have freedom and a lot of people are still fighting for their freedom. And I hope they will soon get it in one or another way. The world without freedom is too cruel to live in, and if I had no freedom, I would probably be depressed with its absence. Priyanka Patel

Freedom - Is Being You
Sapna Nagar Bharadwaj EDUCATOR
Freedom - Is Being You without Anyone's Permission Freedom is an innate right that humans have since their birth. Freedom is not something that can be touched, seen, felt, or reached. All this gives a vague idea about freedom. What exactly does freedom mean? Different people have different opinions, definitions, and thoughts about the idea of freedom. Some talk about freedom in a political sense, some talk about social freedom, some about personal independence, and some define it as religious freedom. But the fact that everyone wants to be free, holds in all cases. Freedom is the choice to live one’s life doing what one wants, live where one wants, eat my own choice, and learn what one’s heart desires. This means that freedom can apply to different aspects of life and freedom is not an absolute term. Freedom is to ensure respect and not just live free. All societies define freedom in their respect. Different cultures see freedom in their light and thus people living in different cultures enjoy freedom in ways that they feel appropriate.Enjoying our freedom does not mean that we disregard the rights
of others and live the way we feel right. We have to consider the rights and the feelings of the people around us when living our freedom. Similarly, a free person does not have to fear when expressing his opinion ensuring that others' respect and feelings are not hurt. Societies that encourage freedom of opinion, thoughts, beliefs, expression, choice, etc. are the ones where creative minds flourish. Freedom does not come with independence. Freedom is also about appreciating the enchanting beauty of nature and the environment around us. A person who is worried and anxious cannot be free at mind and hence cannot enjoy the scenic beauty of a lovely moonlit sky or the pleasant music of the singing birds at the sunset. Hence, freedom is all a state of your mind. It implies that your mind is under no fear or compulsion of safety in life. The feeling of having social recognition, being praised, and of being safe does not mean freedom. Our Aspirations and ambitions of being somebody are absurd and do not suggest freedom. NOVEMBER 2020 - 023
Education or preaching does not make us free. Following an ideal person or an example of a master is not a sign of freedom of a person. Freedom is the absence of any pressure from the social, political, and religious environment that we live in. Freedom has certainly no particular definition. While some think of it as the opportunity to act freely and personify ideas, others are of the view that it is about the possibility of doing what you want to do regardless of the impact on the other people. For a prisoner, being out of prison means freedom. But from a social perspective, freedom is something that a person is free to do while abiding by social customs and law of the country. No societies can guarantee absolute freedom to all social creatures. This is because it will be complete chaos if we try to understand what everyone in society wants to do. Thus, freedom is not an absolute right, and it too has some constraints. Freedom that poses threat to society and the nation we dwell in is not freedom in real sense. One cannot kill people, violate laws, smuggle drugs, or doing anything detrimental to
society and call it freedom. A popular saying goes: “Your freedom ends where mine begins. All of us have our thoughts and ideas about being free. Freedom is nondenial of our basic rights as humans. Some freedom is specific to the age group that we fall into. A child is free to be loved and cared for by parents and other members of the family and play around. So this nurturing may be the idea of freedom to a child. Living in a crime-free society in safe surroundings may mean freedom to a bit grown-up child. Similarly to a youngster or a teen, freedom may be about hanging out with friends, enjoying group activities. Some teens may want to involve in social service and contribute freely to the cause of the underprivileged or poor. It may mean freedom to them. Old people may seek the security of health and life, spend a good time with grandchildren, involve in religious and social activities, and believe it to be their freedom. Thus freedom is about belief more than a concept. Deprivation of freedom is like a punishment to a human being.

FREEDOM OF THOUGHTS As being different from other species in the Earth, only humans can think both concretely and abstractly based on their situations. That is why the world has variety of changes in day-to-day activities. A human being is the treasury of thoughts and emotions that lead to actions in the society. In every mind, there is always a war between thoughts and emotions to respond a person or situation. When emotions win over thoughts, it paves way to oppress others or getting oppressed by others. When thoughts win over emotions, it progresses to the freedom of expressions and actions. NOVEMBER 2020 - 025
To seek truth in falsehood that is filled with deceptive emotions, education is the golden key to open the shuttered mind which is full of emotional illusions. In olden days, books were prohibited for oppressed people. The people who were living as starving slaves did not need education rather than food and freedom of actions. When the slaves were freed and got freedom of actions to do anything of their own for their lives, there was a necessity for freedom of thoughts through the process of education to uplift minds in the new world. Though the oppressed people got physical freedom, they could not perform mentally as free as the oppressors. Because, their inferiority complex caged them within their minds. Still, it continues in our present age. The development of technologies supports all human beings by providing a great chance to initiate the search for knowledge regardless of who they are. The generations of oppressed people are not valuing the education to achieve the freedom of thoughts. That makes a big difference between the minds of oppressors and oppressed humans.
Without freedom of thoughts, people cannot understand what is going on around them. The laws, economy and technology change quickly and these changes affect severely to those who caged their thoughts within their slavish minds. To survive or live as autonomous human being in the world, freedom of thoughts is prominent and it should be realized by all human beings.
Physical freedom is just a ticket to enter the train of mental freedom which tours the world to acquire knowledge and progressive actions along with experiences. Freedom of thoughts can be attained by, 1. Believing on one’s own mind, 2. Learning through books rather than movies, 3. Engaging in mindful activities independently, 4. Preferring writing and reading as hobbies, 5. Coming forward to express anything in public, 6. Understanding the context before the content. When the freedom of thoughts is spreading all over the world, there will be no discrimination among human beings. Just think about Chess pieces: there are black and white pieces of army in the chess game, but their colour differences are not making any special identity to empower the pieces. i.e. The four rooks in the board have same power irrespective of black and white colour. This is the perfect example for freedom of thoughts.
Those who think freely do not discriminate people based on their caste, colour or any ascribed characteristics of the individuals. They know that freedom of thoughts is not an ascribed characteristic and it is an achieved characteristic. Freedom of thoughts begin with literacy, go through education and attain achievements. It strengthens actions of people by activating their minds to perform tasks for the societal development. “Freedom is just a choice of mind, Educate yourself for being a key to find! Mr.V.Heymonth Kumar NOVEMBER 2020 - 026

The thing is that nowadays everything is fast but people can't spend even a little time with their home. Some people lose their eyes due to excessive use of cellphone. Some people also get all the diseases like braincancer, brainhamrage ... so what does such freedom mean ???

Have we really found freedom? So our country became independent on 15th August, 1947 but even today there are some things that we still have not allowed to become Freedom ... 1) Mobile Addiction : If you look today, everyone has a mobile in their hands, not only big people but also small children now play games in cellphones, some even teach us how to open this thing, this is how it was played.
Even now in the country, UP and all such places become a rape case. Even in the verdict of such a rape case, the accused survives and the poor girl has to commit the last suicide. Just as there are laws and regulations for girls, there should be laws and regulations for boys. How long will all this last ??? In a country where a woman is worshiped like a mother, a place like Lakshmi is worshiped, such a rape case, girls should be banned from going to any place, how long will a girl keep her hobbies in her mind ??? Don't they have any desire ??? What a freedom gained 73 years ago where people are mentally enslaved ??? Jeet Panchal “ िदल से कलम तक “ NOVEMBER 2020 - 027

Hey Life! Hey life ! Just stay for a minute for me, I want to live my dreams to be..... A butterfly that have the fragrance of many flowers, A beautiful waterfall of blessings of showers, A river that flows to the weired directions, A sky where no limits of destinations. I want to take some rest in nature’s lap, Where i forgot sorrows and enjoy the clap, The clap of lovely leaves and stars, To enjoy the beauty of tiny dwarfs. I want fly high in the sky by closing my eyes, To have crystals of cold ,calm, snow which
flies. I feel I could be the swan who climb every height, I feel i could be the peak of every flight. But it seems that time is passing rapidly through my palm, Please stop it for a while to make me calm. I have to complete everything which rest, Which make me i think the ever best. But alas! Time is playing and slips like a sand, I need little pause to correct myself, i fold my hands. Give me some sunshine, give me some rays, Give me a little chance to live for some more days.

When Times Get Harder : As You Wish Life is painful sometimes, the pain can feel crushing. I know, I understand you. When the pain is too big for your heart, and it overtakes you. When it feels like you are carrying the weight of the world. In those moments it feels like- the world is terrible dark place . Feels like there is no love and kindness, but only pain. I am here to tell you that even though sometimes it’s hidden, but universe is on your side. It’s waiting for you, patiently and lovingly, it’s there to help you. So when you hear the birds chirping or feel the sun on your face. Feel it . Know that the universe is holding you. Let it go, release the pain and the worries. Let the tension leave your body. You are being supported. You are accepted and loved. You are safe. Know that the world holds more pain and darkness than you. It holds a beautiful light too which you’ll definitely see. And most importantly believe in yourself because while writing your destiny God has definitely written into some pages that “AS YOU WISH”. HARVI D. GHEDIA NOVEMBER 2020 - 030

Freedom Fish feels free in sea, than in beautiful costly aquarium. A bird fly in freed glee, in fresh air than in cage. No line or limit to measure, fearless new move must be treasured. Feminist bird is free to fly, but thousand arrows point her to die. Nation is freed from slavery, her liberty never enjoys merry. Brutal crush and dominance must be buried, Secured hands and sisterhood must flourish. Female is boon or bane, Never put an argument for gain, Let the door of freedom line, With words, thought and action that kills pain. R.K.Umadevi NOVEMBER 2020 - 031
