Nashville-based nonprofit CreatiVets and Big Machine Label Group’s campaign to release a new veteran-written track on the 20th of every month — paying tribute to the 20 veterans and active-duty members that commit suicide every single day — continued April 20 with “Miss Those Memories,” available now (via Big Machine Records).
The tune was written by Marine Veteran Lloyd Howard Jr. alongside multi-platinum hit maker Justin Moore, award-winning songwriter Casey Beathard, and CreatiVets co-founder Richard Casper. A product of one of CreatiVets’ lauded songwriting programs, which aims to pair combat veterans with songwriters in Nashville to learn how to use music as a form of therapy, the moving song was inspired by Howard’s harrowing time in service and his positive approach to life after war. Featuring lead vocals by Beathard and background vocals by Moore, the poignant track serves as a reminder that countless veterans are faced with a new set of battles after returning home. Country music hit maker and Academy of Country Music award-winner Jeff Carson recently passed away due to a heart attack Franklin, Tennessee/ He was 58.
Michael Ray, Lee Greenwood, Mark Wills, Ty Herndon, Wade Hayes, Rhett Akins, Ricochet, Craig Campbell, and more are set to join together at “A Music Memorial For Jeff Carson” to honor the country music hit maker and Academy of Country Music awardwinner. They will take the stage at The Nashville Palace in remembrance of their dear friend on Tuesday, May 10 at 7 PM to share, celebrate and honor their times with Carson through the years. (“Mirror Mirror”) among others. “Yeah Buddy,” was his first charting single and was followed up with ‘Not On Your Love,’ which went number one. The following single, ‘The Car,’ became a top-five hit, topping out at number two and won Carson his first Academy of Country Music award for “Video of the Year.” Carson had several other singles, including “Real Life (Was Never The Same Again)” from his album “Real Life.” In total, Carson’s career achieved 14 charted singles on the Billboard chart. Carson took a break from music to become a law enforcement officer with Franklin Police Department in Williamson County, Tennessee, where he remained on the police force. Returning to music in 2019, he signed with Encore Music Group and has been in the studio with Buddy Hyatt recording a specialty album to be released later this year that included duets with Michael Ray, Darryl Worley, Mark Wills, and Craig Morgan.

After 10 albums, the last five of which have gone top 10 or better, six Grammy awards, and sold-out tours around the world, The Black Keys are back. The duo releases its eleventh studio album, Dropout Boogie, on May 13 via Nonesuch Records. The first single, “Wild Child,” is out now along with a video directed by the band’s longtime collaborator Bryan Schlam.
Dropout Boogie features collaborations with Billy F. Gibbons (ZZ Top), Greg Cartwright (Reigning Sound), and Angelo Petraglia (Kings of Leon). As they have done their entire career, the duo of Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney wrote all of the material in the studio, and the new album captures a number of first takes that hark back to the stripped-down blues rock of their early days making music together in Akron, Ohio basements. The Black Keys will tour North America for the first time in three years starting in July.
