Welcome The Cutty Sark and the Queen’s House will be buzzing with big names and thoughtprovoking ensembles who take over these unique spaces with art, comedy, music and drama performances: everything from reflective responses to war to the fantastically eclectic Cutty Sark Studio Theatre (returning after its sell-out inaugural season earlier this year). And finally, don’t miss the unveiling of the breathtaking winners of this year’s Astronomy Photographer of the Year competition at the Royal Observatory, the world’s premier annual exhibition of images of the heavens.

Welcome to another jam-packed few months of exhibitions and events at Royal Museums Greenwich. This autumn is our busiest ever, with the continuation of our special Longitude season, centred around the must-see exhibition Ships, Clocks and Stars: the Quest for Longitude at the National Maritime Museum, a dramatic exploration of the inventions and rivalries that solved the world’s greatest scientific problem of its day. Alongside this we have the fantastic Longitude Punk’d, a completely different D F of the A Longitude story M interpretation by steampunk artists at the Royal AA 5+ 0-5 6+ 7+ 12+ 8+ Observatory, complete with11+a spaceship in the Meridian Courtyard; and a newD AA exhibition at the Queen’s House D F celebrating the brilliant artists aboard AA 5+ D F A M Cook’s three great voyages:AA the perfect 5+ 0-5 D F A see our two Stubbs M opportunity to AA 5+ 0-5 6+ 7+ 11+ 12+ masterpieces for the first time since AA AA 5+ 0-5 6+ 7+ 11+ 12+ 8+ 15+ undergoing major conservation work. Longitude season

National Maritime Museum | Until 4 January 2015 Discover how the critical problem of finding where you were at sea preoccupied the greatest minds of the 17th and 18th centuries. Explore the ideas that went into solving the world’s biggest challenge, the rewards and prestige at stake, and how the science involved still affects our lives today. Not being able to pinpoint where you were at sea posed a huge problem for centuries, prolonging voyages, wrecking ships and costing lives. The Longitude Act, passed in July 1714, set the scene for a race of enormous importance, with the top scientific minds of the age pitted against each other to solve the ‘unsolvable’. Delve through this landmark exhibition into a dramatic story of invention and intrigue, which captured the imaginations and talents of astronomers, skilled artisans, politicians, seamen and satirists.

Longitude season Longitude Punk’d Royal Observatory Greenwich | Until 4 January 2015 Free with your Royal Observatory ticket Delve into the weird and wonderful world of Longitude Punk’d, where sci-fi collides with 18th-century innovation; an immersive experience never tried before, in the last place you would expect to see it… Steampunk artists have taken over the ‘Time’ galleries at the Royal Observatory, creating a lavishly re-imagined story of the pursuit for longitude. Bursting with quirky characters, this witty, theatrical, and fabulously inventive narrative reinterprets the science and the drama of the 18th-century quest, bringing to life madcap inventors, star-gazing scientists and extremely elegant explorers of the past. Let these characters take you on an adventure into a world where scientific convention and the laws of nature have been re-written, and where the steampunk inventors are the greatest minds of the day striving to solve the longitude problem.

Discover specially created pieces large and small by steampunk luminaries including Robert Rankin, Doctor Geof, Emilly Ladybird and Major Thaddeus Tinker, as they take over the historic rooms of Flamsteed House and spill out into the Meridian Courtyard, exuberantly blurring the boundaries between art and science, fact and fiction. #WhereOnEarth rmg.co.uk/longitudepunkd
