Shortest historical review of Kraljevo names, in the past repeatedly changed: Rudo Polje (1476), Rudo Polje or Karanovac (1540-1572), Karanovac (1572), Kraljevo (since 1882), Rankovic (since 1949) and Kraljevo ( from 1955) ... Renaming Karanovac to Kraljevo was done on the first visit of king Milan Obrenović to Karanovac after the declaration of the Principality of Serbia into the Kingdom of Serbia. On that occasion, the king Milan has granted the request of citizens of Karanovac and by the command from April 19, 1882 (by the Julian calendar) approved the change of name Karanovac to Kraljevo. Changing the name was in the spirit of the aspirations of establishing a connection with the old glory of medieval Serbia and Nemanjić dynasty.
