Jazz has undoubtedly, along with the film, marked the twentieth century. Born sometime in the late 19th century it quickly crossed the ocean and sailed to Europe, where it was accepted with sympathy and enthusiasm. In the second laf of 1920s it appeared in Serbia. Ensembles and orchestras are popping that, according to the extant photographs, totally correspond to instrumental structures of jazz orchestras across America and Europe of that time. Unfortunately, there are no audio recording so that the repertoire policy can be evaluate solely on the basis of extant cabaret programs and music sheet material that was sold in the store of Jovan Frajt and Geca Kon. But, undoubtedly, it was jazz with all the rules this noble music demanded. Serbian listened to jazz in all its towns and spas. Established were local orchestra has percussion (drum, kettledrums, tambourine) and that some orchestras with the prefix jazz actually did not have anything to do with the music.
