“Necessity is the mother of invention. A need or problem encourages creative effort to meet the need or solve the problem.” ~ Plato “At seventeen, I enlisted in the Marine Corps. At Camp Lejeune, I drank water contaminated with carcinogenic substances which gave me cancer. The Chemotherapy destroyed the cartilage in my cervical spine. The pain became so intense, I felt I would not be able to work much longer as a Physical Therapist.

Only $14.95

Hence, the creation of Chazael Lotion.” Kevin Sgroi, PT Creator of Chazael Lotion

“Chazael lotion is amazing! After being shot six times on March 6, 2016, nothing helped alleviate the severe swelling in my feet until my physical therapist gave me this lotion. He said it works equally well in relieving the symptoms of arthritis, muscle spasms, and increasing flexibility in joints plagued by arthritis. Please try this product!”

Pastor Tim, Coeur d’Alene “Chazael has become my go-to lotion! I am a physical therapist and have started using this incredible lotion with my patients. When pain is decreased, therapy is more effective. The lotion absorbs quickly into the skin and does not have a lingering smell. Chazael is a game changer for me.”

Laura Steininger, DPT “After 20 plus years of practicing manual therapy, my hands can become stiff and swollen. Within five minutes of rubbing in the Chazael I could make a fist with ease and the swelling in my joints was significantly reduced. I use Chazael daily for myself and my patients.”

Jason Bruns, MPT, OCS “This lotion is an absolute miracle! It keeps my legs from cramping up, especially at night, and it stops many of the pains I experience!”

T

his is a word I’ve been using a lot lately. It’s meant to convey surprise, wonder, pleasure and pain—which are just a smattering of the feelings and emotions all of us have felt over the past several weeks. As I shared in last month’s issue, I went on a 13-day sacred travel tour across Egypt, which turned out to be divinely timed as we completed the tour on March 17, which is the day I returned home to a shockingly new world and reality. But before going there, let’s return to Egypt. It is without a doubt the most magnificent, mystical and deeply spiritual country I’ve ever visited. From seven nights on the Nile to the great pyramids, sphinx and the numerous temples and sacred sites in between, my physical and spiritual senses had never been so heightened. I felt embodied and fully alive there—I fell in love with life again and I swear my heart exploded in joy and appreciation at every turn. During our private tour inside the great pyramid, which I can’t even begin to explain how wow that place was, while meditating in the king’s chamber, I felt a physical expansion in my chest, as though I could feel the energetic power of my heart for the first time. I was reminded of that moment in The Grinch when his heart grew three sizes, and he buckled under the force of it all. That’s how it felt and it was deeply humbling. Wow. And so, the mystical trip ended, and I headed home to a new world. The wows continued, only this time, they were out of confusion, panic, pain and surprise. I felt a deep sense of powerlessness in the midst of this unknown and unseen entity that was taking the world by storm. My emotions were mixed. Was it really that serious? What’s the big deal? Why is all the toilet paper gone? I tried to stay above the fray and the panicked, fear-based media coverage while at the same time feeling a deep sense of compassion and sadness for those around the world who were suffering with this virus, as well as those who were feeling isolated, scared and alone. I worried about the healthcare workers who were on the front lines and risking their lives, as well as the essential businesses remaining open to serve their communities. I observed myself spiraling into a state of gloom and doom that felt heavy and overwhelming. Fortunately, my time floating along the divinely feminine Nile river filled me with a knowing that I desperately needed now - there was nothing to do but flow. So, I flow. I flow and trust that all is in divine working order, even though it feels chaotic. Despite my attempts to control life, life is in the driver’s seat and my only job is to sit back and allow. It will serve me best to stay above the fray and trust that the universe is doing what it’s always done—sending me what I didn’t know I needed. And my job is to receive and be thankful. Gratitude offers us and everyone we come into (socially-distanced) contact with the highest vibration known to human kind, and I know we could all use more of that. And so, friends, I encourage you during this extremely tumultuous time to take the Nile’s lead and just flow. Allow yourself to feel, express, be and receive anything and everything that’s for you, and leave everything else behind. I’ll be flowing too—at a six-foot distance, of course. With deep love and appreciation for our beautiful community of souls,

Amber

Beware of COVID-19 Scams

A

worldwide emergency, such as the one we are all experiencing now, can create positive impacts on communities, including a sense of shared experience, connection and a willingness to help neighbors and those on the frontlines of the pandemic. Unfortunately, it can also create opportunities for those with less altruistic motives to defraud and scam others while preying on vulnerable populations who lack understanding about technology and the internet. Scams can take several forms and it is important to stay vigilant to the following fraudulent scenarios: A knock at the door or phone call from someone offering services or claiming to represent organizations like the Red Cross or World Health Organization (WHO). A phone call that claims to be someone in government or an insurance company collecting information to process your “stimulus check.” A call or text message falsely advertising a cure or an offer to be tested for coronavirus. An email or social media message seeking your personal or financial information which includes an official looking link to a fraudulent website. The Federal Communications Commission is tracking scams related to COVID-19 and advises the following:

A full-service pharmacy and compounding center serving the Inland Northwest for over 50 years.

Do not respond to calls or texts from unknown numbers. Scammers often utilize local phone numbers to trick you into answering or responding.

Custom compounding for:

• Veterinary • Bio-Identical Hormones • Dental • Sports Medicine • Dermatology • Chronic Pain

Never share your personal or financial information via email, text message or over the phone. Be cautious and hang up if you are being pressured to share personal information or make a payment immediately. Remember, government agencies never call to ask for personal information or money. Do not click any links in a text, social media or email message that appear suspicious. Always investigate and communicate directly with a charity or nonprofit before donating.

Additional services:

• Professional grade supplements and essential oils • Nutrition counseling with our registered dietician • Adherence packaging • Most insurance accepted • Mail and delivery available Our highly trained pharmacists work closely with health care providers to meet our patient’s special needs. Vitamin D May Reduce Coronavirus Risk In an article posted on FoxNews.com former CDC Chief Dr. Tom Frieden shares that higher blood levels of vitamin D may reduce one’s risk of coronavirus infection. Frieden writes, “Higher COVID-19 mortality rates among older people and those with chronic conditions suggest that a weakened immune system contributes to poor outcomes. There are many crackpot claims about miracle cures floating around, but the science supports the possibility—although not the proof—that Vitamin D may strengthen the immune system, particularly of people whose vitamin D levels are low.” The article goes on to suggest that more than 40 percent of U.S. adults may be deficient in vitamin D—especially those residing in northern states—and that vitamin D supplementation may help. “Most daily multivitamin supplements contain enough vitamin D—though it’s possible to take too much, so it’s important not to overdose. How much is enough? Doses between 800 IU and 2000 IU are probably safe; a reasonable and commonly used dose is 1000 IU a day. Too much vitamin D can cause nausea and vomiting, weakness and frequent urination, and lead to bone pain and kidney stones. Vitamin D can also interact with certain medications, so you should check for interactions before taking supplements.” Because most people’s bodies manufacture vitamin D when exposed to direct sunlight, Frieden suggests spending at least 15 minutes a day outdoors in the sun while following safe social distancing guidelines. In addition, he adds that getting regular exercise, enough sleep, and eating healthy are other measures we can follow to help strengthen our resistance to COVID-19. Although cannabis is a complex plant with more than 400 chemical entities, the cannabis/hemp industry has—for the most part—remained fixated on two particular cannabinoids: THC and cannabidiol (CBD). However, other cannabinoids are starting to emerge into the spotlight. One of these so-called minor cannabinoids is cannabigerol (CBG), which is gaining attention for its proclaimed antibacterial, anti-microbial, anti-inflammatory and anti-viral properties. While CBG has yet to match the mainstream appeal of CBD, this cannabinoid may soon play a starring role in everyday consumer products as it quietly demonstrates a wide array of intriguing medicinal benefits. “The pharmacological effects of CBG described in the scientific literature include: anti-fungal, anti-insect and anti-inflammatory activity; neuroprotective activity; stimulation of appetite, and enhancement of the death process of cancer cells,” reports Dr. Itzhak Kurek, CEO and co-founder of Cannformatics, a Northern California biotech company that uses bioinformatics to improve medical cannabis. Following the passage of the 2018 Farm Bill, which legalized industrial hemp production and established a THC limit of 0.3 percent, the industry is starting to realize the potential value that CBG presents from a medicinal standpoint. However, over the last few decades, scientists have left a paper trail of research that shows just how fruitful this relatively unknown cannabinoid could be. Michael Pickens is the owner of North Spokane Hemp Co., located at 9323 N. Division St., Spokane. The store offers a 1500 mg CBG product in limited quantities due to its rare availability. The store is currently open Mon to Fri from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and encourages online orders at NorthSpokaneCBD.com. Use coupon code: medical30 for 30 percent discount and free shipping. The Forgotten Basics Vitamins and Minerals by Deborah Martinez Supporting the basic needs of our body—especially our immune system—can profoundly impact our overall health and wellness. With our current global health crisis, having a healthy immune system is critical. One of the ways to support a strong immune system now and in the future is with vitamins and minerals. These essential elements, required by all the cells in our body for proper functioning, are often the forgotten basics. We always want healthy cells in our immune system so that they are ready and able if ever called upon to fight off viruses or other contagious threats in the environment. There are eight vitamins and minerals with the best scientific evidence for immune system support. They include vitamins C, E, A, D, folate, iron, selenium and zinc. Be sure to include these important micronutrients in your diet daily. At this time of increased risk for a contagious health issue, consider augmenting your dietary intake with nutritional supplements containing the forgotten basics.

Vitamin/Mineral.... Dietary Sources Vitamin C................. Citrus fruits, spinach, kale, bell peppers and Brussels sprouts Vitamin E................. Check Oxygen Levels with COVID-19 Symptoms by Dan Stachofsky Risk assessment estimates from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) predicts that most Americans will contract COVID-19 at some point, making education about what to expect and how to naturally assist prevention and recovery especially important. Medical experts say COVID-19 can damage lung function. The Hong Kong Hospital Authority made the findings after studying the first wave of patients who were discharged from the hospital and had fully recovered from the disease. “They gasp if they walk a bit more quickly,” reports Owen Tsang Tak-yin, the medical director of the authority’s Infections Disease Centre at a recent press conference. “Some patients might have a drop of 20 to 30 percent in lung function after full recovery.” Research completed in 2009 by Dr. David Verhoeven of the University of Maryland School of Medicine, showed oxygen blood saturation is the best predictor of lung function during an influenza infection. As such, it is advisable for those who believe they are having COVID-19 symptoms to begin measuring and tracking their blood oxygen saturation (O2 sat) levels with a pulse oximeter. A pulse oximeter measures O2 saturation levels, which refers to the extent to which hemoglobin is saturated with oxygen. Hemoglobin is an element in our blood that binds with oxygen to carry it through the bloodstream to the organs, tissues and cells of the body. Normal O2 saturation levels are usually between 96 and 98 percent. Any level below 92 percent is considered dangerous and should be evaluated by a medical professional. Dan Stachofsky is the president of Essential Energy Solutions based in Spokane, which creates Electromagnetic Frequency (EMF) canceling products that have been shown to reduce the body’s EMF stress response, and raise oxygen saturation to normal levels. Now through May, receive a free pulse oximeter with any purchase. Call 509-850-0557 or visit TheEMFfix.com for more information. See ad, page 18.

6

Consume fermented foods. Fermented foods such as sauerkraut, kimchi, miso, tempeh, unsweetened yogurt and kefir, help support your microbiome and immunity.

7

Drink plenty of fluids. Support your immune system by consuming adequate fluids including water, tea, homemade soups and broth. Avoid fruit juices and sweetened beverages, as the sugar content is harmful for immunity.

8

Ensure good rest. Sleep restores and heals the body. Without adequate sleep, optimal immune function is next to impossible.

11

9

Get exercise. Mild to moderate exercise helps boost the immune system. If you can exercise outside in less populated areas, even better! If not, find workouts and yoga classes online.

Ways to Support Your Immune System Now 10 by Amy Love

F

ood is medicine, and there has never been a better time than now to improve our health and boost our immune system through optimal eating. Here are 11 simple ways you can start today.

eliminate sugar, processed carbohydrates, starches and junk food from our diet. Studies have shown that refined sugars can suppress the immune system for hours after ingesting.

Eat nutrient-dense real food. Death from infections is often not due to the infection itself but the body’s inability to fight it. Since more than 90 percent of Americans are deficient in one or more nutrients, we all need to focus on improving the quality of our diet. Nutrient-dense foods include meat, fish, chicken, shellfish, organ meats, eggs, berries, green leafy vegetables, nuts and healthy fats like butter, ghee, high fat dairy.

2

Go Low Carb. Since diabetics are more susceptible to COVID-19 and one in two Americans are pre-diabetic or diabetic this is a great opportunity to start reducing sugar and starch which suppress the immune system. Now has never been a better time to reduce or 10

Consume adequate protein. Be sure to eat the right amount of protein for your age and level of health. Protein is critical for immune function and protein malnutrition is a big risk factor for death from infections.

4

Add antimicrobial foods to your diet. Garlic, onions and ginger, along with many spices, can provide antimicrobial benefits. Add them to soups and vegetable dishes to ensure you’re consuming enough of these beneficial foods.

5

Eat the rainbow. Add more fruits and vegetables into your diet that are high in vitamins C, A and phytonutrients. Some of the best immune boosters include leafy greens, cruciferous vegetables, peppers, sweet potatoes and squash.

Practice meditation and yoga. Increased levels of stress increase susceptibility to viral infections. Now is a great time to learn online through meditation apps, including HeadSpace, Insight Timer, 10% Happier and DharmaSeed.

11

Plant a garden. If you live in an area with a lawn or access to land, grow some of your own food. This is also a great learning activity for kids while they’re home schooled this month. If we all stay calm, avoid contagious fear, and take care of ourselves and our families, we can get through this together and dramatically reduce the severity of this current global health crisis. Amy Love, RN, is a health and wellness coach known as the Low Carb Nurse. She works with clients in the Inland Northwest to address the four pillars of health—nutrition, exercise, sleep and stress management—and focuses on individual goals to optimize and reclaim vitality. time and energy. Here are three things you can do right now to reinstate a sense of internal peace and calm:

1

Limit news and media updates. Limiting your exposure to the relentless media updates will help you take a step back from the growing mass hysteria and fear. A half hour to an hour maximum of TV, radio, news articles, YouTube, or social media updates should be more than enough to keep you suitably informed.

2

Move your body. Stress gets locked in the body and can wreak havoc on sensitive hormonal systems, as well as digestion. Try to move your body daily to release stifled energy, stretch muscles, and create a greater mind/body connection.

It also supports the soft portion between your hips and ribcage when sleeping on your side. All cushion portions are adjustable via zipper openings.

“I developed the pillow after a car accident herniated a disc in my neck and lower back. I found that I couldn’t get comfortable on any regular pillow and had to sleep on my back or the pain radiated out into my shoulders. It took me years to develop and patent a neck support pillow that would allow me a pain-free night’s sleep. Everyone who has one is very appreciative and this is why I work so hard to get it out there.” Larry Wilmarth, Owner and Creator

Becoming a Light in the Darkness by Erin Lehn

J

ust a few weeks ago, most of us in the United States were going about our regularly scheduled lives. Although there was knowledge of a virus affecting citizens in China, the thought of a global pandemic was far from many of our minds. My, how things have changed. Much like Dorothy in the Land of Oz, it feels as though we’ve been swept up in a tornado and spit back out into a disorienting land of the unknown, where the regular rules don’t apply. These are unprecedented times. Naturally, we’re worried for ourselves, our loved ones, our finances, our communities. Trying to understand the sheer global impact of this virus is staggering, let alone how it’s going to affect us all for years to come. We’re being asked to stay home and socially distance ourselves to stop this virus from spreading even more. We’re dealing with unwelcomed financial hardships and an uncertain future. A trip to the grocery store feels like a life-threatening experience! The world as we know it is collapsing all around us. It’s the perfect setting for panic to set in.

Many in the spiritual community are positing that the virus is a medicine. What if that were true? What if this bitter medicine we’re all taking in right now leads us to live more heart-centered, authentic, connected lives? Will the virus eventually teach us to slow down, savor life, and relish in the things that truly matter? Only time will tell. While we don’t have much choice in how this pandemic story unfolds, we can choose how we’re going to react to it. During this forced sabbatical, let’s not squander our time binging on terrifying news reports. That only adds to the panic. We can stay informed without immersing ourselves in bad news. If we really are being given an opportunity to reset and reevaluate how we want to engage with life, does it truly serve us to spend that time worrying, or is our time better spent envisioning a lighter, brighter future? We’re all simultaneously spinning around in this cyclone together, and the only way out is through. There is no better time than now to focus on what brings us pleasure, soothes our minds, and ushers in love and lightness into these dark times. Spending our days doing more things that uplift our spirits will help us get into a better mind space. And once we’re in that space, we’re able to offer more joy, compassion and emotional support to others that can really use it. Here are some tips to get there:

Spread Laughter

Share the best of those funny memes, films and comedy skits. Or better yet, make some funny videos yourself! We could all use more laughter right now.

Express Gratitude

Even with all that is happening around us, we have so much to be grateful for. Get in the habit of voicing your gratitude for all the blessings in your life.

Think Beautiful Thoughts

Get Creative

Creative projects give your mind something fun to focus on versus being in a constant state of fear.

Watch Happy Media

Instead of watching pandemic films on Netflix, why not hop over to the comedy section—or better yet, indulge in old SNL skits on YouTube.

Stay Present

Now is where your power lies. When anxiety strikes, ask yourself ‘what’s real, right now.’

Spring Clean

Nothing feels better than a freshly scrubbed home. It’s a great way to occupy a worried mind.

Cultivate Joy

Spend as much time as possible each day doing whatever brings a smile to your face.

Renowned shaman Taita Juanito, founder of Finca Ambiwasi retreat center in Colombia, suggests that during these times we spend more time in prayer and meditation instead of worrying. “Be sure to see all the blessings you have and to live in harmony. To be grateful you are breathing, alive and know you are a part of nature…Be sure to think beautiful thoughts. To speak beautiful words. And to act in beautiful ways. The greatest prayer any of us can offer to life is how we treat ourselves, others and the earth. Your daily walk is your greatest prayer.”

What this virus is demonstrating loudly is that we are all connected. What we do, no matter where we are in the world, can have a major effect on those we encounter. Let’s start making those connections more meaningful. Let’s find more ways to spread love and laughter. With all of our lights shining bright, we’ll break through this darkness together.

A Home That Heals Creating a Nurturing Space by Marlaina Donato

H

ome, whether a humble studio apartment or a dream house, is a critical facet of well-being, a spiritual headquarters from which good health springs. Everyone in the family, including two- and four-legged children, can benefit from an environment that feels like a sacred space. Creating nourishing corners, along with more open areas that feed the senses and a system of functional ease, can be a deep and rewarding act of self-care.

Welcome to North Idaho’s Premiere Integrative Chiropractic and Massage Clinic

“Our home is by far one of the most significant investments we’ll ever make. Our spaces are not meant to be stagnant, but to evolve through each stage of our lives,” says feng shui expert Bridget Saraka, of Saskatoon, Canada. Ali English, owner of Eldrum Interiors, in Lincolnshire, England, concurs, “We all need a safe holt to return to, that space where we can be utterly ourselves, utterly at peace.”

Investing in harmony does not require a high price tag. “It’s important to have a mental vision of what this means, and for me, there are three major components: peace, order and beauty,” says Texas-based designer Rachel Anne Ridge, who blogs at HomeSanctuary.com. Like water and wind, harmony within the home should also flow. “Listening to the energies in your home and taking the time to move furniture around until you have a placement that makes your head feel calm is really important,” says English. Feng shui—the ancient Chinese system of creating harmony in personal and professional spaces—prioritizes color psychology. “More times than I can count, I’ve had clients report loss of motivation after painting their homes taupe. They’ve also reported weight gain and digestive disorders,” says Saraka. “It’s best to use colors that reflect light, especially for homes in locations where winter is long and days are short.” Disruptive clutter is another key player in eliciting discontent, especially for children that are sensitive to environmental stimulus. “A space that is cluttered can cause emotional distress, resulting in less-than-desirable behaviors,” says Saraka. “Something as simple as the lines of the furniture can feel sharp, creating anxiety. It all matters.”

healing ways

Cultivating Comfort

Soul-inspiring visuals, satisfying textures and natural, delightful scents are all desirable domestic companions. A small, ambient lamp in a bathroom or a springcolored sheer in a window can invite the benediction of light. “Step outside the room and then come back in as a guest,” suggests Ridge. “What do you notice with your newcomer’s eyes? What does the room feel like? What smells are you aware of? Do you need to move a cat litter box to another area of the house? Would an area rug soften the hard sounds of foot traffic? Pause on each of your senses and make notes.”

Bringing the Outdoors In

Incorporating organic elements can boost the vitality of any living space. “House plants are a wonderful way to bring the green world into our homes. Go for organic ones if possible, and if you’re worried you may forget to water them, consider plants like scented leaf pelargoniums; for example, Royal Oak. They thrive on neglect and can also provide some wonderful room fragrances,” says English. She also suggests including natural or quality faux branches and blooms in the home as ways of decorating—berries to provide splashes of rich orange, pine cones dabbed with metallic paint, or even long stems of ivy leaves twisted into garlands. Having live plants in the home also benefits physical health. “Adding a few real plants to a space can help reduce environmental toxins found in paints and manmade products, as well as electromagnetic frequencies—by-products of electronics.” Ridge concurs, “Cacti can be a charming alternative for those of us who don’t have a green thumb, but still want to enjoy a living plant indoors.” In the end, a place of sanctuary comes from a place of love. English sums it up best: “If you pour that sense of love into your home, you will, over time, find that mirrored back at you, and you’ll feel it whenever you go through your front door.”

Tips from our experts Feng shui tips from Bridget Saraka:

Create daily rituals with small, manageable goals that’ll help sustain balance and harmony. Give everyone in the household daily, weekly and monthly chores to help maintain a clean, healthy, safe, beautiful and calm home. Make sure that each space has optimum lighting, that all light bulbs work and window treatments are opened daily to fill each room with natural light. Position the beds in the home to have a view of the door entering the room. This is called the “command position”, which instills a sense of control over the immediate environment.

Practical suggestions from Rachel Anne Ridge:

Start with the floor. Simply pick up and straighten the items there—shoes, books, papers, coats and that stack of items earmarked for donating that you set in the corner weeks ago. A clear walk space gives you immediate energy and a sense of order. Use a timer. Setting it for five minutes (or giving yourself just enough time

to let a teabag steep in a cup) is perfect motivation to unload a dishwasher, clear the junk mail from the counter or wipe down a sink. Reduce indoor noise pollution. Installing felt bumpers on cabinet doors and drawers is a tiny activity that yields big results. Cover the feet of kitchen chairs with pads and use fabric placemats on tables. Throw rugs can also soften sounds. Upgrading speakers for TVs and devices can improve sound quality and facilitate lower volumes.

Inspiration from Ali English:

One of my most favorite guidelines is William Morris’ adage, “Keep nothing in your home that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful.” Never feel that you are “stuck” with where you’ve placed furniture and items. I move things around my home on a regular basis, only really settling when furniture has found the place where it merges most perfectly with the overall energy of a room. Begin by creating a “mood board” where you collect ideas that inspire you.

WHAT’S WRONG WITH WHEAT? by Amy Maus

O

ne of the first food items many functional nutritionists and health coaches ask their clients to eliminate is modern wheat. To some this means going “gluten free,” but this approach creates a loss of beneficial fiber and vitamins, which is why another recommendation is incorporating ancient grains into the modern diet. Ancient grains have nourished mankind for millennia. Why is it that in the last 50 to100 years, wheat has become such a toxic food? Interestingly enough, it’s not gluten that is the issue but rather the way wheat has been modified over the years. First, when ancient wheat was milled into flour, the bran and germ remained. Even sifted flour could only remove the

north spokane HEMP Co.

largest bran and germ chunks so most of it remained in the flour. The bran and the germ contain most of the nutrition in wheat. However, because the germ contains natural oils, the freshly milled wheat would go rancid after a time. To combat this problem, the steel roller mill was created in the 19th century. This mill was able to separate the bran and germ completely which resulted in pure white flour with an extremely long shelf life. Thus, the processed food industry was born. The next change to wheat occurred in the 1950s and 1960s when Nobel Peace Prize winner, Norman Borlaug, pioneered a new and improved species of semi-dwarf wheat. This was also the post war age of

industrial, agricultural chemicals. These complimenting fertilizers and pesticides increased yield spectacularly. Unfortunately, nobody checked to see if this new wheat, with its chemical additions, would be digestible by humans. In fact, this new wheat’s gluten content was significantly increased over ancient wheats. In addition, this new wheat relied on increasingly higher amounts of chemical inputs each year—one of which is the villain, glyphosate. This toxic chemical has been known to cause leaky gut, among other health issues. According to MIT researcher, Dr. Stephanie Seneff, “Glyphosate affects a multitude of bodily functions… it is extremely damaging to the mitochondria, located inside our cells, where our body makes ATP energy.” So, in light of the problems with modern wheat, people naturally assume it’s better to go gluten-free. However, that is not necessarily the healthiest choice. Ancient grains contain much needed fiber, B vitamins, antioxidants, proteins, lipids and minerals. Interestingly, Bob Quinn, the farmer who brought the ancient grain, kamut, to the United States, has done several, double-blind, cross-over research studies that has shown ancient grains actually heal some chronic illnesses like irritable bowel syndrome and diabetes. Ancient wheat is an important part of a healthy diet and products made with it can be readily found in many grocery stores and

A

s many can attest, stress and worry offer little benefit to our lives and can create a lower vibration within the body, affecting our overall health and wellness. Studies have shown that when our vibration drops, so does our immunity. However, during this time of unprecedented changes due to the worldwide pandemic of COVID-19, we may find ourselves in a constant state of worry, fear and stress. Much of what is happening in the world is out of our control. Fortunately, we do have control over our mindset and, to a large degree, our level of stress response. Mindfulness is a tool we can use to help us get into a higher vibrational state, thereby increasing our immunity to viral infections. Taking action on what we can control is key. The following tips and protocols are helpful actions we can take throughout the day to help keep our bodies and minds in a healthier state during these challenging times. Drink purified hot water upon waking and throughout the day. This helps keep the body hydrated and relaxes blood vessels which stimulates digestion. Drinking it throughout the day can also relieve the body of toxins. Increase body temperature. This helps eradicate pathogens. Saunas, hot tubs and even taking a hot shower following exercise can help. 22

Change your clothing after going out. Clothes can carry germs and viruses so changing your outfit after each outing is a good idea. Be sure to launder your clothes in hot water on a regular basis. Gargle with saltwater before bed. Gargling helps bring bacteria to the surface of the gums, teeth and throat. Spit gargled water into sink and repeat. Wash your hands for 20 seconds. The virus can survive on your hands for 10 minutes, so wash frequently. Any soap that lathers is effective. Try acutherapies with quantum biofeedback. Traditional Chinese wisdom traditions merged with quantum physics builds immunity and can be done from a distance. Reduce EMF Exposure. Electromagnetic Frequencies (EMF) have been shown to contribute to inflammation in the body. To decrease EMF exposure, it is important to ground yourself daily by connecting barefoot to the earth, and to turn off cellular data as often as possible, especially at night. Wipe down your phone often. Since the surface our phones can often contain more germs than a toilet, wipe them down daily with a silver embedded microfiber cloth or 70 percent isopropyl alcohol. Disinfect mail and packages. While mail and packages pose a relatively low-risk for

Yet there is reason to believe that might not be the whole story—that living a charmed life and being lucky both in love and a chosen field is within our control. Recent research in the field of positive psychology and the experiences of consistently lucky people show that we can, and in fact already do make our own luck. Although there will always be an element of chance to luck— both good and bad—we have more influence over the events in our lives than we realize. This means a great deal of our luck can be changed, and quickly, with a little conscious attention. The first step is changing our ideas

about how luck works. Stanford University professor and luck expert Tina Seelig, Ph.D., explains that the key is “understanding that luck is rarely a lightning strike— isolated and dramatic—but a wind that blows constantly… You need to build a sail made up of certain tiny behaviors to catch the winds of luck.” Here are a few ideas and ways for us to get started in raising our sails and harnessing the winds of luck.

Believe it’s possible and commit to being lucky. This is called mindset.

It may seem simplistic, but studies clearly show that people that believe they are lucky are more open to and aware of the opportunities that come their way and act upon them, which leads to a larger number of positive outcomes.

Start The New Year Right!

Think of action as a cosmic lottery ticket. The more actions we take, the more chances we have to win. To turbocharge this step, we must get out of our comfort zone; meet new people, change our daily routine and do things that stretch us. Fortune favors the bold.

Learn to listen to inner mental, emotional and physical promptings.

Being true to our deepest values, priorities and intuitions, and staying centered in our bodies while we move through space, are the keys to being in the right place at the right time, a common definition of luck. When we focus on the elements of luck that are within our control, chance becomes less important. Begin today and watch good fortune blossom. Carol Kline is a New York Times bestselling author and the co-author of Happy for No Reason, Love for No Reason, five books in the Chicken Soup for the Soul series and the upcoming Conscious Luck: Eight Secrets to Intentionally Change Your Fortune, with Gay Hendricks.
