The CT Women’s Consortium Adapts to the New Normal with Virtual Trainings!

T

he Connecticut Women’s Consortium, located in Hamden, Connecticut, has been fortunate to be able to continue to provide quality, virtual behavioral health trainings and courses during these trying times. We offer trainings on a variety of topics including traumainformed care, clinical skills, children and families, substance use, veterans, and healing arts. All the trainings offer CECs through the CT NASW. Virtual trainings are live courses where registrants can learn and interact using the GoToMeeting platform. They count as “in-person” trainings, as they are held in real time. For those not familiar with this format, virtual training technical assistance information sessions are offered. Learning the Tools of Mindfulness, Creating a Vision Board and Whole Body Stress Relief are several virtual options. Connecticut Women’s Consortium also offers over 50 online courses. Online courses are available on-demand (participants can pause and restart at their leisure). Once purchased, they are available to watch for 365 days. All offer CECs. For more information on the trainings and events, visit WomensConsortium.configio.com.

Holistic Moms Network: Fostering Parental Connection and Understanding

O

n February 16 at 7:30 p.m., join the New Haven County chapter of Holistic Moms Network virtually on Zoom as we focus on the Circle of Security, a visual map of attachment parenting, with Charlie Slaughter, MPH. What if we were able to make sense of what our child was really asking from us? The Circle of Security® Parenting™ (COSP) program delves into how secure parent-child relationships can be supported and strengthened. Using the COSP™ model, trained facilitators work with parents and caregivers to help them better understand their child’s emotional needs, support the child’s

ability to successfully manage emotions, enhances the development of the child’s self-esteem and more, says Circle of Security International. Learn more at circleofsecurityinternational.com/ wp-content/uploads/COS_Full_Circle.pdf. There are videos attendees can view at circleofsecurityinternational.com/ resources-for-parents before the presentation. Charlie Slaughter, MPH, works as a primary prevention services coordinator for the Connecticut Department of Children and Families. He is leading a statewide effort to build capacity to offer COSP in cities and towns. He is also a consultant for Circle of Security International. Slaughter is the author of Hungry for Love: Creating a Mealtime Environment that Builds Connection, Life Skills, and Eating Capabilities. The mission of Holistic Moms Network, a nonprofit support and discussion network, is to connect parents who are interested in holistic health and green living. It welcomes people wherever they are on their own holistic path in an environment that does not judge. The monthly meetings, open to the public, are the third Tuesday of each month. While they usually take place in person at the Woodruff YMCA in Milford, Connecticut, the monthly meetings are currently offered through Zoom. For more information, visit HolisticMoms.org or Facebook.com/ HMNNewHaven. RSVP for the event on the Events page on Facebook.com/HMNNewHaven.
