Hey, I’m Dr. Diane!

Ilove to starting a new year by taking some time to acknowledge everything I accomplished in the past year and celebrate my wins! I spend the last week of December and the first week of January thoughtfully examining where I am in my life and, more importantly, whether I am still passionate about where life has taken me. This year, I’m excited about three major accomplishments:

1. I’d been having heart palpitations daily for the last year or so, and I’ve reduced these episodes to less than once a month.

2. We are launching our second annual 10BEST awards— voting is happening now so go here and vote by Jan 31: bit.ly/EN10Best2025

“Here are some of the questions I ask myself during my year review, and I hope you will take some time to ask these of yourself as well: What if I only had one year to live? What would I do? What places would I visit? Who would I spend my time with? ”

—Dr. Diane Hayden, PhD

3. I was able to turn my wakeboard, alternating which leg was in front and surf back and forth across the wake! It’s the little things!

Here are some of the questions I ask myself during my year review, and I hope you will take some time to ask these of yourself as well: What if I only had one year to live? What would I do? What places would I visit? Who would I spend my time with?

How many of you have contemplated these questions? In our crazy, busy, jam-packed lives, many of us are just going through the motions. Far too many people go through life without making any effort to truly live passionately…to get that fire in their soul for enjoying life and living it to the fullest. The worst tragedy in the world is the person who has lost his passion. How do you get your passion back? Spend a weekend, a month, a year identifying what you love—and then do it. I hope this issue inspires you to chase your dream. After the last few years, I’ve realized—or I should say I’ve been reminded—that life is short. Don’t let fear stop you. Was I afraid to do some of the things I needed to do to accomplish what I listed above? Heck yeah! But I stopped listening to those voices and I focused on one thing—the end result. You’ll be afraid—do it anyway. You’ll say you don’t have time— stop watching TV or scrolling social media. You’ll worry about the money—you’d spend it on something else, trust me. The years will go by, whether you chase your dream or you don’t. And at the end, do you really want to be asking yourself, “What if?”

Wishing you health and happiness,

The unique mission of BOOSTIE™ is to simplify healthy eating. In a society where an organic “protein” bar may not actually be a healthy choice, we aim to provide quick and easy food that truly benefits our bodies.

The real value of BOOSTIE™ is found in the sprouted nuts and seeds it contains—the only type of nuts and seeds that offer a powerhouse of nutrients. Each ingredient was chosen purposefully and with intention, and I added cacao nibs for additional nutritional value.

In addition to being healthful, BOOSTIE™ is super convenient. After a long day or when traveling, cooking may not be a convenient option. Adding either BOOSTIE PINK LEMONADE or RASPBERRY to good quality plain yogurt provides a fast, complete meal—and because BOOSTIE™ is nutrient-dense, you’ll feel full and satisfied.

BOOSTIE NAKED is low in sodium and rich in vitamins, minerals, micronutrients, plant protein, fiber, omega-3s, and electrolytes. The PINK LEMONADE and RASPBERRY versions are perfect for intense exercisers, athletes, and people over the age of 50. Why? We need them! If you are in one of these groups, your great health depends on them.

Electrolytes are incredibly important for many physiological processes in the body, including hydration, nerve function, muscle function, pH balance, blood pressure regulation, heart function, and kidney function. Maintaining the right balance of electrolytes helps ensure that your body’s systems function optimally.

Jenni Berman Berman Health and Wellness

Berman Health and Wellness helps clients heal their gut, reach their goal weight, and achieve the highest quality of life imaginable —without needless medications.

BHW is a Functional Medicine practice working locally in Naples, FL, and virtually throughout the state to treat problems—not symptoms.

I’m Jenni Berman, Physician Assistant Certified and American Board-Certified Anti-Aging Medicine Health Practitioner. Functional medicine hit home for me after going through my own health concerns that were not being solved with traditional Western medicine. My team of providers and I connect with clients on a one-on-one basis to unlock vitality through understanding their metabolism, gut health, hormone imbalances, and vitamin deficiencies.

Here are just some of my favorite comments from clients’ responses to their treatment—and the reason I love doing what I do:

“Why has no one ever explained this before?”

“Why has my doctor never checked this blood test to identify this problem before?”

“I didn’t know a healthy lifestyle to lose 25 pounds could be so ‘simple’!”

“I really felt better than I did in my 20s.” [from a 70-year-old]

“I was told I would have to use these medications forever, and now I am only taking supplements.”

Berman Health and Wellness works with clients by creating individual lifestyle plans based on their own blood testing and metabolism to see unparalleled progress, whether their goal is weight loss, reducing inflammation, improving their gut health, sleep, energy, and more. The treatment plan must be specific to the individual and based on whole foods, nutrient density, and optimizing vitamins and hormones. Berman Health and Wellness specializes in treating you as an individual.

Susie Bagwell Founder, I Love Oils, Inc.

Susie Bagwell began using essential oils in 1999 to help care for her daughter’s ear discomfort. That success led to a lifelong passion and interest in the application of essential oils. After being certified to teach and pioneer an early concept in essential oil application, Susie went on to become a Certified Massage Therapist in Michigan and opened Mässusie, an Essential Oil Spa, in 2007.

Susie joined dōTERRA International in 2008 and became an active AromaTouch Instructor. Since closing the spa and moving to Florida in 2010, she teaches about essential oil application in hospitals, clinics, and massage schools. Susie’s husband, Peter, left his manufacturing business in 2015 to work with Susie, and the two opened an office where they host educational classes and events together.

One of the biggest challenges Susie faces is decades-old misinformation about essential oils. Many people believe you can’t use oils on children, or cats, or dogs, or that essential oils should only be used either internally or externally. However, today’s certified-pure, tested-grade essential oils are very safe, and extensive research continues to reveal new secrets and modalities for using them in a more holistic lifestyle.

Susie’s current work is taking the information to the people. Her team regularly sets up booths at farmers’ markets and vendor events to teach people more about oils face-to-face. The Bagwells also host classes at their Fort Myers, FL office and wellness events around the country.

Steve Case, Body Restore

At Body Restore of Naples, we are dedicated to helping patients suffering from arthritis-related joint pain and sports-related injury. We utilize state-of-the-art platelet-rich plasma and stem cell therapies to maximize your body’s own repair and regenerative processes. In addition, we offer peptide-assisted weight loss and testosterone replacement therapy to optimize mobility and maximize muscle mass. Our goal is for our patients to keep their God-given parts and delay or avoid major orthopedic surgery. We also offer IV/ IM vitamin infusion, peptide therapy, and PRP hair loss therapy to optimize health and well-being.

I am a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with over twenty years of experience with sports medicine and joint replacement surgeries. I am the only orthopedic surgeon in South Florida with a practice solely focused on avoiding surgery utilizing these cell-based therapies. I have always been a conservative surgeon, offering patients their surgical options and conservative treatments. I also know that conservative measures are a waste of time and may ultimately lead to a worse surgical outcome due to prolonged delay. Every patient is fully evaluated to ensure they are good candidates for treatments and no bridges are burned.

We offer the best platelet-rich plasma processing system available on the market today, capturing greater than eighty percent of your circulating regenerative platelets and delivering more than three billion total platelets to our patients’ areas of injury. Our scientifically backed procedures can provide significant pain relief and improved joint mobility and function to eighty percent of wellselected patients with twelve months of relief. Our adipose stem cell treatment has shown clinical improvement in arthritic joints for up to two years.

As a surgeon, I am always very satisfied to see my patients return to or exceed their prior level of activity. I am very excited to offer an office-based treatment achieving similar results for those patients not ready for a major orthopedic operation with the associated risks. Your body has amazing healing and regenerative capabilities, and we are excited here at Body Restore of Naples to optimize and supercharge them.

8 Reasons Yoga Is the Perfect New Year’s Resolution

As the new year begins, many of us feel the pull to set intentions and create resolutions to improve our lives. One resolution that stands out as both impactful and sustainable is starting a yoga practice. This ancient discipline offers a holistic approach to health and well-being, combining physical healing, mental clarity, and emotional balance. Here’s why committing to yoga is one of the best ways to begin the year on a positive note.

1. A Holistic Path to Health

Yoga is not just about physical movement; it’s a comprehensive practice that nurtures the mind, body, and spirit. Regular yoga sessions improve flexibility, build strength, and enhance overall wellness. Yoga movements, from gentle stretches to dynamic poses, cater to all levels of ability, making it accessible to beginners and those who have been on a journey of healing for some time.

Beyond physical health, yoga promotes mental well-being. Through practices like mindful breathing and meditation, yoga helps reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. It encourages a connection between the body and mind, allowing practitioners to understand their emotions better and develop a sense of inner peace.

2. Stress Management in a Busy World

In today’s fast-paced world, stress has become a common challenge. Yoga offers a proven way to manage it. The deliberate focus on breath and movement during a yoga session activates the parasympathetic nervous system, which counteracts the fight-or-flight response triggered by stress. This results in lower cortisol levels, reduced heart rate, and a calmer state of mind. Moreover, yoga teaches mindfulness, a practice of being present in the moment. Mindfulness reduces stress and enhances focus and productivity. For those juggling demanding jobs, family responsibilities, or other pressures, yoga can serve as a grounding tool for navigating life’s challenges with resilience.

3. Improved Flexibility, Balance, and Strength

One of the most visible benefits of yoga is improved flexibility. Yoga helps loosen tight muscles and improve your range of motion over time. This flexibility is not just about physical prowess—it also reduces the risk of injury and alleviates chronic pain, particularly in areas like the lower back, neck, and joints.

Yoga also builds strength. Many poses, such as plank, warrior, and downward dog, engage multiple muscle groups, leading to increased muscle tone and endurance. Unlike traditional workouts that may isolate specific muscles, yoga emphasizes functional strength, which improves overall mobility and posture.

4. Cultivating Mental Clarity

A new year often brings new challenges and responsibilities, making mental clarity essential. Yoga encourages self-reflection and mental discipline through meditation and breathwork. These practices quiet the mind, helping to reduce distractions and sharpen focus.

The clarity gained through yoga can also foster better decision-making. Whether you’re setting career goals, managing finances, or nurturing relationships, a regular yoga practice provides the mental space to approach life’s complexities with a calm and focused perspective.

5. Creating Consistency and Routine

One of the most challenging aspects of any resolution is sticking with it. Yoga’s inherent adaptability makes it easier to sustain. Classes are available in a variety of formats, from online tutorials to in-person sessions at local studios. Whether you have five minutes or an hour, there’s always a yoga practice that fits your schedule.

Starting small and building gradually is key. For instance, you might begin with a ten-minute daily session focused on basic stretches and breathing exercises. Over time, this small commitment can grow into a comprehensive practice that becomes a cornerstone of your wellness routine.

6. Building Self-Compassion and Acceptance

Unlike many programs that focus on achieving specific external results, yoga emphasizes self-compassion and acceptance. The practice encourages individuals to honor their bodies and progress at their own pace. This mindset fosters a healthier relationship with oneself, reducing the pressure to meet unrealistic expectations.

The lessons learned on the mat often translate to everyday life. Practicing patience and self-acceptance during a challenging pose can help you approach real-world difficulties with a similar mindset.

7. Community and Connection

Yoga can also foster a sense of community. Joining a yoga class—whether online or in person—provides an opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals who share a commitment to healing and personal growth. These connections can create a support system, keeping you motivated and accountable throughout the year.

For those who prefer solitude, yoga offers a deeply personal journey. The mat becomes a space for self-discovery and introspection, allowing you to reconnect with your inner self.

8. A Resolution That Lasts

Unlike resolutions that fizzle out after a few weeks, yoga has the potential to become a lifelong practice. Its benefits are cumulative, and the positive changes you experience can motivate you to continue. Whether it’s the physical improvements, mental clarity, or emotional balance, the rewards of yoga grow with consistency.

Getting Started

Starting a yoga practice doesn’t require expensive equipment or prior experience. All you need is a yoga mat and a willingness to explore. Set realistic goals, such as practicing two or three times a week, and gradually increase as you grow more comfortable. Remember, the goal is not perfection but progress.

As the new year unfolds, the decision to start a yoga practice can set the tone for a healthier, more balanced life. By nurturing your physical, mental, and emotional well-being, yoga offers a resolution that’s both transformative and enduring. Whether you’re looking to improve flexibility, reduce stress, or cultivate mindfulness, yoga is a powerful way to embark on a journey of self-healing and growth. Make this the year you unroll your mat and embrace the practice of yoga—it might just become the resolution that changes everything.

Fortify Your Defenses: How a Strong Immune System Can Transform Chronic Disease, Weight Loss, and Aging

“Strengthening immunity can improve disease management and reduce inflammation, which exacerbates these conditions. For example, reducing systemic inflammation can enhance insulin sensitivity in people with diabetes, promoting both weight loss and better glucose control.”

Your immune system is your body’s defense against illness and plays a key role in overall health. Beyond protecting you from seasonal colds, it impacts your ability to manage chronic diseases, lose weight, and age with vitality. By focusing on immune resilience, you can unlock benefits that support your health at every stage of life.

Why Immune Health Matters

1. Supporting Weight Loss

A strong immune system helps regulate inflammation, which is often linked to weight gain and obesity-related challenges. Chronic inflammation can disrupt hormonal balance, impair metabolism, and lead to insulin resistance, making it harder to lose weight. A balanced immune system promotes metabolic efficiency, better energy levels, and improved fat utilization.

2. Managing Chronic Diseases

Chronic illnesses like diabetes, heart disease, and autoimmune disorders often weaken the immune system. Strengthening immunity can improve disease management and reduce inflammation, which exacerbates these conditions. For example, reducing systemic inflammation can enhance insulin sensitivity in people with diabetes, promoting both weight loss and better glucose control.

3. Aiding Cancer Recovery

Cancer and its treatments often suppress the immune system, leaving the body vulnerable to infections and fatigue. A robust immune response can aid recovery, reduce treatment-related side effects, and support energy levels.

4. Aging with Resilience

As we age, immune function naturally declines—a process called immunosenescence.

This leaves older adults more vulnerable to infections and chronic illnesses. Investing in immune health early can build resilience that lasts into senior years, supporting better health and independence.

Natural Strategies to Build Immunity and Support Weight Loss

1. Optimize Nutrition

• Eat the rainbow: Antioxidant-rich fruits and vegetables like berries, spinach, and carrots fight free radicals that harm immunity and metabolism.

• Gut health: Include probiotics (yogurt, kimchi, sauerkraut) and prebiotics (fiber-rich foods like oats) to support digestion and reduce inflammation.

• Metabolism-boosting nutrients: Zinc (nuts and seeds) and selenium (seafood) enhance immune and metabolic functions.

2. Reduce Inflammation

• Focus on omega-3 fatty acids from sources like fish, flaxseeds, and walnuts to reduce inflammation and improve fat metabolism.

• Avoid processed foods and added sugars that promote inflammation and hinder weight loss.

3. Manage Stress

• Chronic stress elevates cortisol, weakening immunity.

• Mindfulness practices, meditation, and yoga can lower stress levels and improve resilience.

4. Get Active

Regular, moderate exercise boosts circulation and allows immune cells to move efficiently throughout your body. Activities like walking, swimming, or cycling are ideal.

5. Prioritize Sleep

Sleep is crucial for immune repair and hormonal balance. Poor sleep disrupts hunger hormones like ghrelin and leptin, increasing appetite and making it harder to lose weight. Aim for 7–9 hours of quality sleep each night.

6. Use Targeted Supplements

• Vitamin D: Helps regulate immune and metabolic functions, particularly in those with limited sun exposure.

• Medicinal mushrooms: Reishi and turkey tail can modulate immunity and energy levels.

• Adaptogens: Herbs like ashwagandha and astragalus help your body adapt to stress and regulate cortisol.

The Long Game:

Lifelong Health and Resilience

Building a strong immune system is an investment in your health that pays off in weight loss, chronic disease management, and aging gracefully. Regular health checkups, functional medicine testing, and personalized wellness plans can help you identify and address immune imbalances early.

And did you know—you can unlock the secrets to your health with just a half inch of hair! Functional medicine testing can reveal the foods that are best for your system, uncover the state of your gut health, assess your vitamin and mineral absorption, and provide insights into your thyroid and immune system.

The #1 Muscle Responsible for Back Pain and Sciatica

“My experience has been so amazing. My right foot was not lifting in a normal step and I kept tripping. I was so worried that I had drop foot or permanent nerve damage from scoliosis and 35 years of work in a dental office. After four treatments, I had 95% of the feeling back. The sciatica I was experiencing is gone. I can’t recommend this enough.”

—Deb K.

It’s the muscle no one has ever heard of.

The mystery muscle. The psoas muscle. People can’t pronounce it, spell it, don’t know where it is and do not understand the major role it plays in the body! (It is pronounced SO-as; the p is silent.)

Why Does This Muscle Matter So Much?

The muscle that most people don’t know about but causes all kinds of issues with the back, hips, glutes, and legs. The psoas muscle might be the most important muscle in the body! It attaches to the lowest thoracic vertebrae and all along the lumbar vertebrae, winding through the pelvis and attaching to the inside of the thigh. It is the only muscle that attaches the legs to the torso. It has a big job to do!

You are able to stand and walk upright in part because the curve of your lower spine bears and transfers the weight above it. The psoas muscle helps create this curve, as it pulls your lumbar vertebrae both forward and down.

The psoas muscle plays another essential role—it is critical for the seemingly simple task of walking. When you are walking, your brain triggers your psoas muscle to move your back leg forward—initiating the alternation between the front and back leg. So each successful step you take is thanks in part to your psoas muscle.

One of the worst things you can do to your psoas muscle is lead a sedentary lifestyle. Long periods of

inactivity will result in a contracted psoas muscle. Once this muscle is contracted, you have a problem.

What Happens When the Psoas Contracts?

Shortened muscles put pressure on bones and nerves, causing imbalance and pain and leading to stiffness and reduced mobility. Symptoms can include hip, back, and sciatica pain, tight legs, and a lack of flexibility. These symptoms will become especially apparent in the lower back and hip.

The psoas muscle keeps your hips level, creating the foundation for your torso. It is so strong that it can actually pull your hips out of alignment, creating a pelvic tilt, which is responsible for sciatic pain. When one hip is pulled out of alignment, it causes dysfunction in the back at the sacroiliac joint (SI), where the sciatic nerve runs. This can cause debilitating pain, which can shoot down into the glute and even into the leg.

Of course, psoas injury does not end there. Some people may also experience issues with this muscle as a result of a variety of problems. These include strain, spasms, tendonitis, contractures, and more.

Herniated discs, bulging discs, and compression can also be the result of a contracted psoas muscle. As the muscle tightens, it shortens, compressing discs and putting pressure on vertebrae. Spinal compression can cause weakness, pain, and numbness in the legs as well as back pain.

Robotic Precision Therapy to the Rescue!

So why doesn’t anyone talk about the psoas? Possibly because once it is tight and putting pressure on the spine and pelvis, there isn’t much that could be done about it. The psoas is such a large muscle that it is almost impossible to release and lengthen once it is contracted—that is, until robotic precision therapy created technology that specializes in relaxing the psoas muscle and resolving pain.

That’s what sets robotic muscle therapy apart. It can not only access the psoas muscle; it can deeply relax the muscle, which causes the muscle to give up its contraction. Once the muscle does this, tight fibers unwind and lengthen. As the psoas lengthens back to its original state, it allows the hips to come back into alignment and the spine naturally decompresses, allowing for space between vertebrae and alleviating pressure on discs and nerves.

This natural decompression is long-term because the source of the problem, the psoas, has been addressed. Once this happens, the spine, joints, and nerves are no longer under pressure, and pain is relieved and often resolved. Sciatica, even long-standing sciatica, is often resolved in just a few sessions.

If you have some of these symptoms or have back, hip, or leg pain, this revolutionary therapy is what you have been looking for. Most of our clients have tried multiple therapies before finding us. With an over ninety percent success rate, it is certainly worth a consultation.

As one of our regular clients has said, “I always knew there was a reason I didn’t hold chiropractic adjustments, and the benefits of massage didn’t last long, and no amount of stretching was enough! Why didn’t anyone ever tell me about the psoas muscle? You need to tell everyone about the psoas and all the problems it causes and how robotic therapy solves them.”

We offer a complimentary consultation so clients can learn more about this revolutionary technology. We learn about your condition, and you discover whether this therapy can help you. You truly have nothing to lose— except your pain. Theresa Edmunds is a Certified Health Coach and co-owner of Naples Robotic Pain Relief. She is passionate about helping people feel better. Breath: The Overlooked Superpower of Health and Resilience

Breath.

It’s so automatic, so effortless, that most of us rarely give it a second thought. Yet, behind every inhale and exhale lies a complex and transformative system connecting our brain, heart, muscles, and abdominal organs. While we instinctively know breath is essential for survival, few realize it’s also a gateway to thriving health, resilience, and vitality.

At its core, breath is the rhythmic process of drawing oxygen into the lungs and releasing carbon dioxide, hydrogen atoms, and toxins. This autonomic function sustains life and powers critical systems like speech, laughter, and reflexes such as yawning or sneezing.

However, breath is far more than just a pulmonary activity. It is intricately tied to the body’s communication system, influencing everything from neurological pathways to hormonal balance. Central to this process is the thoracic diaphragm, the primary muscle of breath.

The Thoracic Diaphragm: A Muscle Unlike Any Other

The thoracic diaphragm plays a dual role, functioning as both an autonomic and voluntary muscle. As part of the “core” (our recovery muscle system), the diaphragm coordinates with the pelvic floor, transverse abdominal, and spinal multifidi muscles to create a bridge between voluntary and autonomic bodily functions.

The term “core” is often thrown around in fitness circles, conjuring images of planking and six-pack abs. However, the core muscle system is far more complex and significant. Together, these muscles form a dynamic system that stabilizes joints, decompresses the spine, and protects against injury. They are also responsible for postural control and balance while playing a crucial role in transitioning the body between stress and recovery states.

Breath as the Body’s Communication Hub

Imagine your body as a thriving city with intricate systems for communication, transportation, and waste management. Oxygen, nutrients, and water are the fuel that keeps this city running smoothly, and your breath provides its primary energy source.

Through diaphragmatic breathing, the body generates pressure changes that drive lymphatic drainage, enhance circulation, and optimize the function of abdominal organs. This “sump pump” effect minimizes inflammation, supports immunity, and ensures efficient waste removal. Moreover, the breath influences hormonal balance via the gut-brain axis. Deep, rhythmic breathing promotes serotonin production—and regulates cortisol levels, supporting emotional resilience and cognitive clarity.

Breath and Resilience: Finding Balance

In our fast-paced, stress-filled lives, the breath is often shallow and erratic, signaling the brain to stay in a fight-or-flight state. This triggers a cascade of stress responses, including elevated heart rate, suppressed digestion, and impaired immune function.

Conversely, deep, slow diaphragmatic breaths send a powerful message of safety to the brain. This activates the parasympathetic nervous system, often called rest and recovery mode, which lowers cortisol levels, improves digestion and immunity, and enhances cognitive function. Transitioning between stress and recovery states is known as resilience. Building this resilience through mindful breathing is key to maintaining balance and optimizing long-term health.

Strengthening Breath for Health Longevity

Improving breath efficiency starts with engaging the core muscle system. Here’s how:

• Diaphragmatic Breathing: Place your hands on your ribs and belly. As you inhale deeply, feel your ribs and abdomen expand. On the exhale, notice the gentle inward contraction of the core muscles. This practice strengthens the diaphragm while encouraging proper autonomic core engagement.

• Core Activation Exercises: Sitting tall with neutral hips, practice squeezing and releasing your sit bones to activate the pelvic floor. Combine this with focused breathing (engaging on the exhales, relaxing on the inhales) to build strength and control.

• Mindful Practice: Incorporate sensory awareness into daily life. Whether it’s humming a favorite tune, laughing with friends, or savoring the sights and sounds of a calming environment, these activities naturally extend the exhale, enhancing recovery processes.

The Ripple Effects of Better Breathing

The benefits of optimized breath extend far beyond the respiratory system:

• Improved Metabolism: Longer exhalations boost resting metabolic rate, aiding weight management.

• Heart and Organ Health: Creates a massaging effect that improves circulation and digestion.

• Brain Function: Supports memory, focus, and emotional regulation, especially during sleep.

Breath isn’t just a physiological process; it’s a lifestyle. By cultivating awareness and practicing intentional breathing, we unlock the potential to heal, strengthen, and thrive. The next time you catch yourself rushing through life, pause. Take a deep breath. With every inhale and exhale, you’re not just fueling your body; you’re nurturing a system designed for resilience and health longevity.

BoostieTM—and the Truth About Health Bars

“Regular

nuts and seeds contain phytic acid and lectins. These are not only antinutrients, but they also cause inflammation. Once healthconscious consumers became aware of the nutritional value of sprouted nuts and seeds versus their traditional counterparts, many of them started sprouting their own nuts and seeds at home.”

—Goldie Rose, MS

Are all health bars truly healthy?

Many of my friends who have participated via taste testing in the development of BOOSTIE™ Perfect, the most nutrient-dense one-ounce food on the planet, asked, “Why not make BOOSTIE™ into a bar? Many other protein snacks are bars, and they are so convenient.” This is a great question, and there is an easy answer.

The reality is that many “health” bars are made with products that are loaded with sugar—they are even held together with a sugary concoction to bind the ingredients together! And bars are everywhere—many manufacturers want you to stay addicted to sugar while making you believe you are eating healthy food. They contain nonorganic ingredients and are billed as a healthy snack.

The BOOSTIE™ Mission and Vision

Eating healthfully requires focus, but the many benefits are worth the effort. The BOOSTIE™ founders wanted to offer a food that is different from any other food available.

Our Vision: To change how America eats.

Our Mission: To make healthy eating easy.

The four varieties of BOOSTIE™ are unprocessed, sugar-free, loose ingredients—the packaging may make them look like bars, but they are not! If we were to make BOOSTIE™ into a bar, we would not be aligned with our vision and mission.

We Are What We Eat!

We have all heard that adage, as well as the one that says food is medicine. To put it simply, what we put into our bodies is what we can expect to

get out of it. BOOSTIE™ offers an unprocessed, organic, complete meal providing our body with protein, fiber, omega-3s, vitamins, and minerals, all in a convenient, one-ounce packet.

BOOSTIE™ Perfect Naked is best enjoyed as a salad or soup topper—lots of crunch and a big bang of nutrients.

BOOSTIE™ Perfect Pink Lemonade and Raspberry contain electrolytes, which are important to our health because they facilitate the absorption and utilization of the water we drink. Every cell of our body requires hydration, and electrolytes are particularly beneficial to our heart and kidneys. For maximum enjoyment, we recommend you add BOOSTIE™ Perfect Pink Lemonade or Raspberry to yogurt, smoothies, oatmeal, or cereal. When these varieties are eaten straight out of the package, the electrolytes taste like Sweet Tarts…so be ready to pucker up!

BOOSTIE™ Perfect Blueberry is a very popular variety. We added organic blueberries and only one gram of natural sugar, and our customers enjoy that touch of sweetness, eating BOOSTIE™ Perfect Blueberry straight out of the package.

What Makes BOOSTIE™ Perfect So Special?

In addition to being an unprocessed, organic, complete meal, here is the big secret the world is beginning to learn: The nine nuts and seeds in BOOSTIE™ Perfect are sprouted. Regular nuts and seeds contain phytic acid and lectins. These are not only antinutrients, but they also cause inflammation. Once health-conscious consumers

became aware of the nutritional value of sprouted nuts and seeds versus their traditional counterparts, many of them started sprouting their own nuts and seeds at home.

But what a labor-intensive process that is— so consumers began looking for sprouted nuts and seeds in stores and online. In addition to this challenge, though, is being sure to eat a variety of these healthy foods so our body can get the most benefits.

BOOSTIE™ Perfect combines nine varieties of sprouted nuts and seeds, along with the cacao nibs that provide an extra punch of antioxidants. In short, BOOSTIE™ Perfect is, well, perfect for all people who desire to eat convenient, unprocessed, nutrient-dense food. Healthy eaters know the benefits of having foods like these readily available.

Join the BOOSTIE™ community and enjoy the flavors and benefits of convenient, unprocessed, organic, complete meals. Eat BOOSTIE™ regularly for a while and see what happens.

“As

the body’s largest organ, the skin is deeply connected to our internal state. Much of what we see and feel on the surface is indicative of the state of our nervous system. Stress, tension, and even fear and anxiety impact the skin’s vibrancy and elasticity. The relationship between our skin and the nervous system is profound.”

Why You Need Facial Massage if You've Had Botox Treatments

Because of its ability to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, along with other health and beauty benefits, some people have chosen to opt for botulinum toxin fillers as a cosmetic treatment. However, because of its makeup and as more people incorporate this treatment into their beauty routine, the importance of complementary practices like facial massage has grown. Beyond its relaxation benefits, facial massage can play a crucial role in supporting the body’s natural detoxification processes.

Botulinum Toxins, Fillers, and Your Lymphatic System

Botulinum toxins, such as Botox and Dysport, are neurotoxins that work by temporarily paralyzing targeted muscles, preventing wrinkles from forming. While it is generally considered safe and effective when administered by professionals, it is important to recognize that the body still processes the treatment as a toxin. If you do choose to use botulinum toxin or other fillers, it is also critical that you do your due diligence in researching all possible side effects to ensure it is the right choice for you. In the end, you are putting a potentially harmful substance into your body. It’s important to understand what that means and how it can affect you and your overall health. The lymphatic system plays a critical role in detoxification, immune function, and fluid balance.

Unlike the circulatory system, the lymphatic system relies on body movement and external stimulation to keep lymph fluid flowing. Supporting your lymphatic system and circulation can help ensure that any residual byproducts are reduced, but it is crucial to note that new studies show that fillers do not dissolve and leave the body—the body creates scar tissue around it and moves it around the face and body. Here are some simple holistic ways to support and optimize your lymphatic system:

• Stay Hydrated: Lymph fluid is primarily water, so staying hydrated ensures that the system functions effectively. Dehydration can slow lymphatic flow, leading to toxin buildup.

• Exercise and Movement: Physical activity helps pump and circulate lymph fluid through muscle contractions.

• Breathing Techniques: Deep breathing stimulates the diaphragm, massaging and moving lymph fluid. Take slow, deep breaths, focusing on expanding your abdomen as you inhale and contracting it as you exhale.

• Sleep and Stress Management: Stress and poor sleep can impair lymphatic function by increasing inflammation and slowing down detoxification processes. Incorporating these practices into your daily routine can help keep your lymphatic system running smoothly.

How Facial Massage Can Help

Facial massage isn’t just about glowing skin— it’s also a powerful tool for promoting lymphatic drainage. Facial massage assists in opening blocked lymphatic pathways, softening fascia, and enhancing blood and fluid flow. The lymphatic system is responsible for flushing out waste, toxins, and other unwanted substances from the body.

Here’s how facial massage contributes:

• Stimulates Circulation: The gentle pressure and rhythmic movements of facial massage increase blood flow to the skin and underlying tissues. This enhanced circulation helps deliver oxygen and nutrients to the skin, helping it look healthier and more vibrant while aiding in toxin removal.

• Promotes Lymphatic Drainage: Targeted massage techniques can stimulate the lymph nodes around the face and neck, which is essential for removing waste and toxins. This is particularly beneficial after Botox treatments, as it supports the body’s natural detox mechanisms.

• Reduces Swelling and Inflammation: Post-procedure swelling or puffiness can be alleviated with facial massage, which reduces fluid retention and soothes the skin.

• Improves Skin Elasticity: While botulinum toxins may relax muscles to smooth wrinkles, facial massage can help maintain skin elasticity by promoting collagen production and reducing muscle tension in untreated areas. Additionally, botulinum toxins can cause muscles to atrophy. Facial massage helps build and lift muscle as well as building collagen. If you’ve recently had Botox or are planning to, it’s essential to follow these guidelines to maximize benefits and avoid interfering with your treatment:

• Wait Before Massaging: Avoid facial massage for at least two weeks to avoid further spreading of the toxin, which can cause all sorts of negative effects.

• Incorporate Oils or Serums: A nourishing facial oil or serum can reduce friction and enhance the massage’s relaxing effects.

• Focus on Lymphatic Points: Concentrate on areas near lymph nodes, such as under the ears and along the jawline, to optimize drainage.

Other Aesthetic Benefits of Facial Massage

Facial massage is much more than a luxurious spa treatment—there are numerous health benefits as well.

“ Supporting your lymphatic system and circulation can help ensure that any residual byproducts are reduced, but it is crucial to note that new studies show that fillers do not dissolve and leave the body—the body creates scar tissue around it and moves it around the face and body.”
—Nadia Barsamian

• Stimulated Collagen Production: The physical stimulation of the skin during facial massage can encourage the production of collagen, a protein that keeps skin firm and elastic, slowing the appearance of aging by reducing fine lines and wrinkles and improving skin elasticity and tone.

• Relief from Eye Strain and Fatigue: In today’s screen-heavy world, eye strain is a common problem. Massage around the eyes can alleviate tension in the ocular area, reducing eye strain caused by prolonged screen time and minimizing dark circles and under-eye puffiness.

• Supports Natural Hormonal Balance: Massage has been shown to reduce cortisol levels (stress hormone) and increase serotonin and dopamine, which are linked to feelings of happiness and relaxation. Facial massage helps balance stress-related hormonal fluctuations and helps reduce acne or skin problems caused by hormonal imbalances.

• Relief from Sinus Congestion: Certain facial massage techniques can help reduce sinus pressure and improve drainage, alleviating headaches and sinus discomfort and reducing nasal congestion and promotes easier breathing.

• Improved Absorption of Skincare Products: Massaging products into the skin increases their penetration and effectiveness, maximizing the benefits of serums, moisturizers, and oils and boosting hydration and nourishment for the skin.

• Stress and Anxiety Reduction: The gentle, repetitive motions of facial massage activate the parasympathetic nervous system, which helps calm the body, decreasing stress levels, improving mood, and promoting relaxation and better sleep quality.

• Aids in Overall Relaxation: The act of facial massage is meditative and calming, contributing to a sense of well-being. Facial massage promotes mindfulness, reduces overall stress, and creates a soothing ritual that can become a vital part of your self-care practice.

Facial Massage and the Nervous System

Facial massage paves a unique path to stress reduction by activating the parasympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for rest and relaxation. The American Massage Therapy Association found that facial massage techniques can lower heart

rates, reduce muscle tension, and improve lymphatic drainage, effectively detoxifying skin cells and promoting a clear, healthy radiance. Through gentle pressure, facial massages relieve tension stored in the facial muscles and promote lymphatic drainage, reducing puffiness by as much as twenty percent while improving skin texture and complexion and enhancing face shape. Grounding clients with a sense of calm and renewal, treatment becomes an act of self-care, providing the multi-layered healing our clients have come to expect.

Herbaluxe’s methods operate on a cellular level, where lasting transformation begins. As the body’s largest organ, the skin is deeply connected to our internal state. Much of what we see and feel on the surface is indicative of the state of our nervous system. Stress, tension, and even fear and anxiety impact the skin’s vibrancy and elasticity.

The relationship between our skin and the nervous system is profound. Under excessive or unmanaged stress, the body releases cortisol, leading to inflammation, acne, and a dull complexion. When our trained facial massage therapists work with you, they’re as concerned with your relaxation routine as they are with your skincare routine. Any skincare regimen can only go so far if your nervous system is stretched thin. A core aspect of each Herbaluxe session is to calm the mind while treating the skin from the inside out. Mindful massage techniques amplify the relaxation response, aligning skin, body, and spirit with every touch. By incorporating regular facial massage into your wellness routine, you can experience a range of physical, emotional, and mental health improvements.

4 Things Your Doctor Told You That Aren’t Always True

Chances

“[T]here is not a single pharmaceutical drug on the American market that isn’t focused on treating symptoms, as opposed to addressing the actual root problem.”
—Dr. Jake Berman, PT, DPT

are, you have heard or will hear one of these four things from your doctor during your health journey:

1. Take this blood pressure medication or statin to help decrease your chances of a heart attack or stroke.

2. Take Celebrex to help with your arthritis. You’re getting older, so you need to take it easy and slow down.

3. Your X-ray shows your knee is now bone on bone, so a knee replacement is inevitable.

4. Your MRI shows a disc herniation, so you need to get an epidural, and if that doesn’t work, you’ll need surgery.

All those statements are extremely common in Western medicine American healthcare clinics, and the reality is that they just are not always true. In fact, those statements above are more commonly false than true. To believe that, you must first be willing to accept that just because somebody has the title of “doctor” doesn’t mean they actually know the best practices for your specific condition. Consider this analogy: You obviously wouldn’t bring your car to a boat mechanic, right? Sure, car mechanics and boat mechanics both work on motors, but one specializes in cars, and the other specializes in boats.

Now, take that same thought process and ask yourself if you should be listening to an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in surgery tell you how to avoid surgery… Or maybe you should be consulting

with a good physical therapist who specializes in helping people avoid surgery. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not downplaying the credentials of any healthcare professional. I’m simply stating that you should be very cognizant of who you’re taking advice from.

Another Fun Fact

Ninety percent of the medical schools in America don’t require a single class on nutrition, and on average, eighty percent of the curriculum is focused on pharmacology. By now, if you’ve been following me on my other channels, you will know that there is not a single pharmaceutical drug on the American market that isn’t focused on treating symptoms, as opposed to addressing the actual root problem.

This means that most primary care physicians have no idea how to coach you on your diet and exercise to help you lower your blood pressure and cholesterol naturally—because they were not taught how to do so. Plus, with the time restrictions, it’s much easier and quicker to simply write a script for a drug, which they may or may not get a kickback from, and move on to the next patient.

A functional medicine specialist, on the other hand, has spent tens of thousands of dollars and countless hours furthering their education to help you treat the vast majority of common medical symptoms naturally through diet and gut healing without using dangerous chemically composed pharmaceutical medications.

We are in a pivotal moment in American history. The American patient is getting smarter, asking more questions and doing more research. The old school days of taking what your primary care doctor and orthopedic surgeon says for the end all be all are over. It’s been proven time and time again that health insurance companies and pharmaceutical companies prioritize profits over patient outcomes, and the in-network providers are stuck in the middle of providing quality care and not going out of business. Again, I’m not saying your doctor is wrong. I’m simply saying that you should question them to make sure it makes sense to you. I even strongly encourage you to question me! I absolutely love it when somebody questions me because it forces me to back up my statements to ensure that I actually know what I’m talking about!

This article started with some statements that are not always true, so it’s only appropriate that it concludes with some statements that are true far more often than not. Knee arthritis does not cause knee pain. If it did, twenty percent of those who have gotten a knee replacement would not report chronic knee pain after surgery. Herniated discs do not cause back pain. There have been multiple studies looking at people over the age of 40 who do not have back pain, and on average, sixty percent of those will have some type of disc herniation show up on an MRI. Statins are not the best way to control cholesterol; diet and exercise are. And last but not least, and my personal favorite, pain is not a normal part of the aging process! The Rejuvenating Power of Ozone IV Therapy: A New Frontier in Wellness

We all want faster, easier, more natural ways to improve our health. Recent improvements in healthcare can help, but they often come attached to manufactured medications or procedures that act as a bandage, not a cure. Natural solutions like ozone IV therapy help treat the root issues rather than simply covering them up.

What Is Ozone IV Therapy?

Ozone IV Therapy is a form of oxidative redox therapy designed to make your body produce more antioxidants and boost your healing factor naturally. Using a powerful form of oxygen to help detoxify, boost immunity, and promote overall wellness, this treatment introduces ozone into the body to enhance its natural healing processes.

This therapy involves the administration of medical-grade ozone—a molecule consisting of three oxygen atoms—directly into the bloodstream. This therapy is performed under the guidance of trained professionals, ensuring safety and efficacy. By increasing oxygen levels in the body, ozone therapy supports circulation, improves oxygen utilization, and stimulates the immune system. It helps the body fight infections and inflammation while promoting detoxification. The infusion of

ozone aims to enhance oxygen delivery and promote overall cellular health, making it a potent tool for revitalization and healing.

Faster Healing and Recovery Without Medication

Ozone IV Therapy, offered by leading wellness centers like The DRIPBaR, is a cutting-edge treatment that harnesses the remarkable properties of ozone gas. Ozone, a highly reactive form of oxygen, has been found to possess numerous therapeutic benefits when administered intravenously. By introducing ozone into the bloodstream, this therapy can stimulate the body’s natural healing processes, enhance oxygen delivery to cells, and promote the elimination of toxins and free radicals.

Ozone therapy’s power lies in its ability to activate the body’s natural healing mechanisms. When ozone is introduced into the bloodstream, it interacts with red and white blood cells, stimulating the production of ATP (adenosine triphosphate), which enhances energy production at a cellular level; antioxidants, which strengthen the body’s defense against oxidative stress, and cytokines, which support a balanced immune response.

These effects contribute to improved oxygen utilization, reduced inflammation, and enhanced detoxification.

Benefits of Ozone IV Therapy

Ozone IV Therapy offers a wide array of health benefits, including:

1. Boosted Energy Levels: Many individuals report increased energy and mental clarity following ozone treatments. By improving oxygen utilization, the therapy optimizes mitochondrial function—the powerhouse of our cells.

2. Immune System Support: Ozone stimulates the immune system, making it particularly beneficial for individuals with chronic infections or autoimmune conditions. It helps the body combat pathogens while reducing harmful inflammation.

3. Detoxifi cation: Our modern environment exposes us to various toxins. Ozone therapy aids in liver function and promotes the elimination of toxins, supporting a cleaner, healthier body.

4. Anti-Aging E ects: From glowing skin to improved cellular health, ozone therapy is a favorite among those seeking to maintain youthfulness. Its ability to reduce oxidative stress slows the aging process at a cellular level.

5. Pain Management: Ozone’s anti-inflammatory properties make it a valuable option for individuals dealing with chronic pain, arthritis, or musculoskeletal injuries.

While Ozone IV Therapy is often sought by individuals looking to boost their energy and overall wellness, it’s also a complementary treatment for conditions such as chronic fatigue syndrome, Lyme disease, fibromyalgia, autoimmune disorders, and cardiovascular diseases.

What to Expect During Treatment

Ozone IV Therapy sessions are typically quick and minimally invasive. After an initial consultation to determine suitability, a healthcare professional administers the therapy through an IV drip. Most treatments last 30 to 60 minutes, and patients can return to their regular activities immediately afterward.

Treatment plans vary depending on your health goals. While some clients feel results after just a few sessions, others may benefit from ongoing treatments for optimal results.

When performed by a qualified practitioner, ozone IV therapy is generally safe. However, it’s essential to ensure the clinic uses medical-grade ozone and adheres to stringent safety protocols. The ozone IV therapy at the DripBar is administered by licensed practitioners in a USP 797compliant facility, ensuring a safer experience for patients.

3 Reasons Your Golf Game Is Not Improving with Practice

“The problem these golfers have is that their strength—their dedication to practice—is also their greatest weakness and limiting factor. This is because practice makes permanent—if they’re not practicing perfectly, they are further ingraining faulty mechanics.”

—Dr. Jake Berman, PT, DPT

Living in southwest Florida, especially between January and May, golf is everything. There is arguably no better weather or courses in the entire country than what we have here during the spring season. With over one hundred golf courses in Collier County alone, anybody who’s somebody in the golf world can be found on a course at least once a week.

The downside is how hard and frustrating this game can be! It is the only game I have ever played in which the harder I tried, the worse I got. I just couldn’t understand why it was so difficult to make good contact when the ball was just lying there! Out of all the other mainstream sports I’ve played in my life, golf was (and still is!) by far the most challenging and the most rewarding.

Your Swing: Fact vs. Fiction

One of the most frustrating things about golf is how we all feel like our swings are one hundred times better than they are. That is, until you see a video of your swing and think, “There must be some mistake; no way that’s actually me on that screen…” Yes. Yes, that is you and your horrible swing on video, and there is slim to no chance you’re going to get the results you’re looking for without some drastic changes.

It doesn’t matter how many YouTube videos you watch or how much money you spend on the latest and greatest set of clubs “guaranteed” to fix every problem any golfer has ever experienced. You’re still going to have flashes of excellence followed by extensive frustration simply because you’re working harder and not smarter. Let me explain.

Work Smarter, Not Harder

Most golfers know they need to practice to get better. Most golfers even admit they should go get “a” lesson to help correct XYZ. However, with all the noise in the golfing world, it’s hard to know what the correct recipe is for you, your body, and your golf swing. What I’ve found over the years

is that most amateur golfers who are struggling to improve their games fall into three categories: imperfect ample practice, improper instruction, and insufficient practice time. If you’re a double-digit handicapper, there’s a ninety-five percent chance you’ll fall into one of the three following categories.

1. Imperfect Ample Practicers

Golfers in this category are those who will spend hours sweating bullets and banging balls on the range. And when they’re not on the range, they are surfing YouTube, searching for the next big thing that will completely transform their swing, finally giving them that perfect ball striking and distance they’ve always longed for. The problem these golfers have is that their strength—their dedication to practice—is also their greatest weakness and limiting factor. This is because practice makes permanent—if they’re not practicing perfectly, they are further ingraining faulty mechanics. I understand they think they are practicing perfect form and technique; however, the harsh reality is that they are not. I can say that with absolute confidence because it is simply not possible. There’s a reason the greatest golfers in the world have constant coaching—because we are all subjective to be objective, and feelings are very rarely reality. Think about it: How often do the PGA pros playing on Sundays spend the entire warm-up time on the range before teeing off without any coaching? The answer is never. So, what makes the average golfer think they are better than the pros and don’t need constant feedback while practicing?

2. Improper Instruction

Next are those who fall victim to improper instruction. If you are a double-digit handicapper getting lessons that involve somebody showing you videos of professional PGA tour players’

swings and asking you to mirror them, then yes, you fall into this category. It is absolutely frustrating when a teaching pro asks a seventy-year-old to mirror the swing of a twenty-five or thirty-yearold. It’s obvious that seventy-year-old Bob or Sally doesn’t have near the strength or flexibility to come even close to that professional’s swing, yet for some reason, this is happening over and over again. My opinion is that if a golfer can’t break 80, they should not be trying to mimic the swing of anybody who gets paid to play the game.

3.

Insufficient Practice Time

Finally, there are those who don’t spend enough time practicing, period. They generally show up thirty minutes at most before their tee time and rush through a small bucket of balls using a wedge, seven iron, and driver. Then, if there is time, they’ll roll a few putts, and then off to the first tee they go. They continue to cuss and moan, annoying those they’re playing with when they shank one, and then blame the car and not the driver, so to speak.

The next day they go to the PGA Superstore and leave with a brand-new set of clubs and drivers that, for some reason, lead to the same results as their old clubs… Well, there is a saying that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. Instead, if this is you, please try something different before I get matched with you and have to suffer through four hours of your explicit negative self-talk.

Golf is an amazing game you should be able to enjoy for as long as you live. It doesn’t have to be as hard as many amateurs make it, and sometimes it takes doing the opposite of what everybody else is doing. Many people think lessons and new clubs are the answer to their subpar ball striking and poor distance. But if you’re over the age of sixty, I can tell you with absolute certainty that your physical ability is by far the lowest-hanging fruit. If you spent a little more time on some very specific strength and mobility drills, you might just see some positive changes in your golf game sooner rather than later. Search for Berman Golf on YouTube to get a different perspective on the golf swing—and zig while everyone else is zagging.

Dr. Jake Berman, PT, DPT, is a physical therapist and owner of Berman Golf, where they focus on helping aging golfers increase distance off the tee, shoot more consistently, and play more frequently. Dealing with Dental Cavitations: What You Need to Know

Dental cavitations are a lesser-known yet significant health issue that can lead to chronic conditions. Ischemic osteonecrosis of the jaw, fatty degenerative osteonecrosis in the jawbone (FDOJ), bone marrow defects of the jaw (BMDJ), neuralgia-induced cavitational osteonecrosis (NICO), and even “areas of impaired healing,” as more simply described, can all fall into this category.

Essentially, cavitations are areas of necrotic bone that may occur due to trauma, poor healing, improper dental procedures, and dry sockets. The problem with these areas of cavitations is that the bone has not healed properly; therefore, there is no blood flow to the area, leading to bone decay. Hence, harmful bacteria and microbes have a place to accumulate.

Although difficult to detect by conventional 2D dental X-rays, they are more readily found with a 3D CBCT, or cone beam computed tomography. A trained biological dentist can see cavitations and, with proper software, can measure bone density differences to find the “pockets of necrosis or necrotic tissue areas.”

The Reality of Dental Cavitations

Because most people—and many conventional dentists—are unaware of what cavitations are, they may go undiagnosed for years. If left untreated, they can potentially lead to infection, chronic inflammation, toxin exposure, and, in some cases, neuralgia.

Over ninety percent of cavitations are found after wisdom teeth extractions. They are also found around failed root canal extraction sites,

traumatic injuries, and dry sockets—essentially, any area that has had incomplete healing or loss of clotting factors. There are also a few documented reasons for cavitations to occur: clotting disorders, uncontrolled diabetes, and low vitamin D levels. Hundreds of studies on PubMed, going back ten years, discuss cavitations from accredited researchers globally. Why, then, do many conventional dentists and oral surgeons say it doesn’t exist? Great question! I won’t assume, so I will just say this: many have not stayed current with scientific research and/or clinical studies in dentistry. Unfortunately, this happens more often than I would like in our profession.

Wait—Cholesterol in Bone?!

In almost every cavitational surgery, I have found fat cells, which are not supposed to be in bone. These fat cells, or cholesterol, are the body’s attempt to protect itself. At the first sign of inflammation, our bodies send cholesterol cells to try and surround the source.

In the last ten years, new research on the delicate homeostasis of cholesterol and anti-inflammatory regulation has surfaced. In an otherwise healthy individual, intracellular cholesterol is released to combat inflammation. Obviously, this is a very simplistic explanation of the delicate and balanced dynamic interplay between the uptake, synthesis, storage, and export mechanisms of cholesterol. But the fact remains—fat cells in bone are no bueno. We want to get to the root cause and eliminate these necrotic areas—who wants dead bone in their bodies?

Symptoms of Cavitations

Though these are the potential symptoms of dental cavitations, there may not be any noticeable warning signs, making cavitations difficult to diagnose.

• Facial pain

•Headaches and migraines

• Phantom toothache

• Trigeminal or atypical facial neuralgia

Although cavitations may not always trigger pain or swelling, they typically result in systemic health problems that are not clearly linked to dental cavitations. The harmful bacteria and toxins from cavitations can lead to infection and immune dysfunction, affecting your whole-body health.

The toxins and bacteria may activate an immune response, potentially leading to chronic inflammation and autoimmune dieases, including rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, psoriasis, and inflammatory bowel disease.

Dental cavitations can also lead to or exacerbate other serious diseases, such as heart disease, sickle cell disease, Lyme disease, and pancreatitis.

Treatments, Then and Now

First discussed in the mid-nineteenth century, Dr. GV Black (the father of modern dentistry) described these jawbone cavitations as necrosis. Dr. Black suggested surgical “curettage of the unhealthy bone, tissues, cysts, and/or abscesses out of the cavitation.” This treatment is still the most popular today, almost two hundred years later.

So, how do biological dentists today treat these cavitations differently? Once we see them, we cannot unsee them…and thanks to CBCT 3-D technology, we are able to plot them exactly. Typically, a very small incision is made directly over the plotted and measured area. When we find the hole—and it is a hole, literally—we curettage the area to remove the dead and infected bone and periodontal ligament that was left behind. Generous amounts of ozone and lasers are used to clean, disinfect, and decontaminate the defect. We also use a Piezo with diamond tips and ozone irrigation.

Once this is complete, we graft the PRF (plateletrich fibrin) that is made from your own blood drawn at the beginning of treatment. PRF contains stem cells and growth factors that encourage the healing of the defect. In my office, we prefer to use PRF rather than cadavers or animal products. Many times, we add some natural supplements and melatonin to aid in healing.

After about four to six months, we can verify healing with a follow-up CBCT of the area. Nearly every patient reports some soreness to mild discomfort for the first few days following the treatment, and the majority report a substantial difference in their general constitution. Only very few of the largest cavitations, because of their degree of defect, will require a second treatment— but these are the exception, not the standard.

No matter how small these “hidden” areas are, a trained biological dentist can read the areas and treat them to encourage proper healing and stimulate and promote new healthy bone growth.

“In an otherwise healthy individual, intracellular cholesterol is released to combat inflammation. [T]his is a very simplistic explanation of the delicate and balanced dynamic interplay between… mechanisms of cholesterol. But the fact remains—fat cells in bone are no bueno.”

Some people get what’s come to be known as “Ozempic face”—the telltale facial fat loss that gives a sunken look. Others experience “rebound weight gain” when they stop taking the drug, often gaining as much or more than they lost. They regain their appetite and revert to previous eating habits, having never addressed the underlying lifestyle factors that contributed to their original weight gain.

Common digestive complaints include nausea, vomiting, bloating, diarrhea, constipation, heartburn, reflux, and stomach pain. Less common but definitively correlated with semaglutides is a form of stomach paralysis and intestinal blockage. In addition, this class of drugs carries an increased risk of muscle loss, lowered bone density, and thyroid cancer. One of my patient’s friends, a young mother, was using Ozempic to lose weight and lost her life to an intestinal blockage. These risks should not be taken lightly.

Natural Alternatives to Simpler Weight Loss

If you have been reading my articles over time, you may have noticed that most reflect my focus on gut health, an anti-inflammatory diet and lifestyle, and modulating the microbiome with specific strains of probiotics to achieve specific health goals. This also applies to weight loss. When the gut biome is disrupted, it can lead to weight gain and other health issues. Conversely, correcting the gut biome plays a significant role in weight management and overall health.

Specific probiotic strains have been studied for their potential role in promoting weight loss, and several strains have shown a high correlation with successful slimming (see the table). It is important to note that the effects of probiotics on weight loss can vary depending on individual factors such as diet, lifestyle, and the amount of inflammation in the body. In my practice, I typically address food sensitivities and lifestyle first as anti-inflammatory interventions to ensure a good foundation for losing weight and keeping it off.

Probiotic Strains and Natural Supplements That Promote Weight Loss

Once a stable foundation has been laid, it’s time to “prime” the organs of elimination to ensure weight loss that increases health and vitality in the process—a side benefit, if you will. I typically address the gut-brain and gut–liver axes by working with specific probiotic strains that have been studied for their potential role in promoting weight loss.

Berberine

Nutritional Support for Weight Loss

Phytonutrient with blood sugar regulating effects similar to GLP-1, promotes weight loss.

Chromium

Cinnamon

Mineral that promotes insulin sensitivity and glucose metabolism to support weight loss.

Tea

Improves insulin sensitivity and reduces blood sugar, beneficial for weight management.

Contains catechins, shown to increase GLP-1 to enhance metabolism and break down of fat.

Herb that helps regulate blood sugar and improves insulin sensitivity.

Probiotic Strains for Weight Loss

Bifidobacterium lactis BPL1

Helps shift body composition toward fat loss, improves glucose metabolism, reduces inflammation.

Lactobacillus plantarum DR7

Lactobacillus gasseri

Associated with weight reduction, fat loss, and waist circumference. Reduces inflammation.

Akkermansia muciniphila

Studies show it reduces abdominal fat and inflammation, and improves insulin sensitivity.

Improves gut integrity, reduces inflammation, enhances insulin sensitivity, GLP-1 production.

Green
Fenugreek

“Semaglutides are associated with a long list of potential digestive side effects, including nausea, vomiting, bloating, diarrhea, constipation, heartburn, reflux, stomach pain, and even a form of stomach paralysis and intestinal blockage. In addition, they carry a risk of muscle loss, lowered bone density, and an increased risk of thyroid cancer. These risks should not be taken lightly.”

—Dr. Dana Lapointe, ND, LMT, Esth, CHt, CMWC

Several strains have shown a high correlation with successful slimming. The first two discussed here have been studied specifically for their effects on GLP-1 receptors. These are how we can naturally obtain the benefits of semaglutides without their very real risk profile.

•Akkermansia muciniphila helps shift body composition toward fat loss, improves glucose metabolism, and reduces inflammation. Akkermansia is specifically associated with improved gut barrier integrity and enhanced insulin sensitivity, which contributes to the regulation of GLP-1 production, like the action of semaglutides, but in a gentler way that complements natural function and enhances overall homeostasis.

•Lactobacillus gasseri has been shown to reduce abdominal fat and inflammation and improve insulin sensitivity in obese people by regulating GLP-1 levels, pointing to its potential for preventing and even treating type 2 diabetes.

The next two strains are also associated with fat loss but through slightly different mechanisms.

•Lactobacillus plantarum DR7 is associated with reduced body weight, fat percentage, and waist circumference in some studies. It was also found to modulate the serotonin and dopamine pathways in adults, reducing feelings of stress and anxiety and improving cognition and memory. These effects suggest that DR7 could be beneficial for mental health, and I have used it successfully to help patients manage emotional eating. The funny thing about this one is that it can be given as a postbiotic (killed, not live) and works just as well, or better than, the active bacteria.

• Bifidobacterium lactis BPL1 also helps shift the body composition toward fat loss, improves glucose metabolism, and reduces inflammation. The fat-reducing properties of BPL1 were attributed to its lipoteichoic acid, which acts through the IGF-1 pathway,* suggesting therapeutic use in metabolic syndrome and diabetes-related disorders.

There are also several natural supplements that have been studied specifically for their modulatory effects on GLP-1 expression and secretion and, therefore, their ability to enhance the effects of GLP-1 in the body. Let’s talk about some of them.

• Berberine is found in many plants, including European barberry, Oregon grape root, goldenseal, and goldthread. It is a phytonutrient with blood sugar-regulating effects similar to GLP-1 and promotes weight loss.

•Green tea contains catechins, shown to increase GLP-1 toward enhancing metabolism and the breakdown of fat, and can be especially effective when combined with L-carnitine.

• Chromium is an essential nutrient involved in the regulation of carbohydrate and lipid metabolism. It promotes insulin sensitivity and glucose metabolism and is commonly used by naturopaths for blood sugar regulation. It also supports weight loss. In addition to its effects on glucose, insulin, and lipid metabolism, chromium has been reported to increase lean body mass and decrease body fat percentage.

• Cinnamon is known to improve insulin sensitivity and reduce blood sugar, both beneficial actions for diabetes and weight management. Likewise, fenugreek is an herb that helps regulate blood sugar and improves insulin sensitivity.

A gut health specialist can help you determine which probiotic strains will work best for you. They can also help you pinpoint other herbal and nutritional supplements and target specific diet and lifestyle factors to safely enhance the GLP-1 effects you are looking for.

Although the actions of natural GLP-1 agonists are milder than their pharmaceutical counterparts and require a well-rounded approach, the holistic path avoids harmful side effects and holds the promise of improved health and wellness in the long run.

*IGF-1, or Insulin-like growth factor 1, is a hormone similar to insulin, plays an important role in childhood growth, and has anabolic effects in adults.

The Sweet Spot: Aligning with Your Natural Energy for a Balanced Life

“The

sweet spot is where the magic happens. It’s where you connect with your highest potential, access your creative flow, and tap into your authentic power. It’s not indulgent— it’s essential. The more we align with these rhythms, the more we can thrive in every aspect of our lives.”

We all have those golden moments during the day when we feel our best—energized, focused, and at peak productivity. These are our personal sweet spots. Yet, as a society, we’ve been conditioned to ignore them. Expectations from jobs, societal norms, and even the fear of missing out (FOMO) often pull us away from fully embracing this natural rhythm.

But things are shifting. The collective consciousness is waking up, stepping away from the relentless daily grind, and creating new ways to honor these sweet spots. More people are questioning outdated systems and realizing they can design a life that aligns with their natural flow rather than conforming to one imposed on them. The rigid 9-to-5 structure is no longer the one-size-fits-all solution it was once thought to be.

This shift is most evident with younger generations. They value freedom, flexibility, and authenticity, rejecting the rigid “work for the man” mentality that dominated past eras. They understand the importance of energy management and prioritize their well-being. For older generations, this evolution may feel unfamiliar or even intimidating. Many were taught that success required sacrifice, hustle, and operating on someone else’s terms. But here’s the truth: honoring your energy isn’t lazy—it’s revolutionary. It’s an act of self-love and empowerment.

Why Your Sweet Spot Matters

Your sweet spot isn’t just about being productive; it’s about aligning with your true self. When you work with your natural energy flow instead of fighting against it, everything becomes easier and more fulfilling. Creativity blooms, tasks take less effort, and stress diminishes. Whether you’re an early bird whose mind is sharp at dawn or a night owl who thrives in the quiet of the evening, embracing your rhythm is key to living a more balanced and harmonious life.

And it’s not just about work—it’s about living. By honoring your sweet spot, you also create space for joy, rest, and connection. You can show up more fully for your passions, your loved ones, and yourself.

My Sweet Spot

For me, my sweet spot is in the early morning hours. It’s when my energy flows most freely, and I feel deeply connected to my intuition and purpose. From the moment I wake, I am ready to pour my energy into my work, my clients, and my creativity. This focus lasts until about 3 p.m., when I naturally start to wind down.

Understanding this about myself has been transformative. It is why I schedule energy work only during these peak hours and reserve evenings for lighter tasks, such as short soul readings only on

select days. I’ve learned that honoring my energy is not just beneficial for me—it also allows me to show up more powerfully and fully for my clients. When my energy is in balance, I can be a clearer, stronger channel for healing, guidance, and insight.

Finding Your Sweet Spot

Discovering your sweet spot takes intention and awareness. Start by tuning in to your body and mind throughout the day. When do you feel most focused? When does your energy dip? What tasks feel effortless, and when do you struggle? These patterns will guide you.

Once you’ve identified your sweet spot, protect it fiercely. Schedule your most important or creative work during this time, and don’t let outside demands pull you away. Learn to say no, set boundaries, and prioritize what aligns with your highest good.

The Bigger Picture

This isn’t just about individuals—it’s a societal shift. As more people step into their power by honoring their sweet spots, we’re collectively breaking free from the old paradigms of overwork and burnout.

We’re redefining success to include balance, joy, and fulfillment.

The sweet spot is where the magic happens. It’s where you connect with your highest potential, access your creative flow, and tap into your authentic power. It’s not indulgent—it’s essential. The more we align with these rhythms, the more we can thrive in every aspect of our lives.

So, ask yourself: When do you feel most alive? When does your creativity surge, your focus sharpen, and your energy feel boundless?

Honoring your sweet spot is a gift to yourself and the world. When you show up as your best self, you inspire others to do the same. The shift is happening. Will you step into your sweet spot and reclaim your energy?

It’s time to stop surviving and start thriving.

Your 2025 HighPerformance Protocol: 5 Pillars for Optimal Self-Care

Creating a personalized and intentional high-performance self-care protocol in our fast-paced, ever-evolving world is the foundation for success, fulfillment, and happiness.

“The DRESS framework—diet, rest, exercise, stress relief, and supplementation— offers a practical way to build your protocol and align routines with your priorities for productivity and balance.”
—Christine Bilotti Peterson

As a thirty-year high-performance coach, I have found that success stems from a foundation of mental, physical, and emotional strength, clear alignment with personal and professional goals, driven by purpose, and high-performance techniques such as emotional regulation, mindset mastery, and strategic time management.

The DRESS framework—diet, rest, exercise, stress relief, and supplementation—offers a practical way to build your protocol and align routines with your priorities for productivity and balance.

1. Diet: Fuel Your Body with Intention

A high-performance diet supports energy, focus, and health. Prioritize whole, nutrient-dense foods like lean proteins, healthy fats, whole grains, fruits, and vegetables. Hydration is key; aim for half your body weight in ounces daily.

Examples:

• Breakfast: Spinach, avocado, chia seeds, and protein smoothie.

• Lunch: Quinoa salad with grilled chicken and mixed greens.

• Snack: Raw almonds and an apple.

• Dinner: Salmon with roasted sweet potatoes and broccoli.

Tip: Meal prep on weekends to save time and ensure you have healthy options. Prepare proteins on Sunday to create quick, balanced meals throughout the week.

2. Rest: Prioritize Sleep and Recovery

Quality sleep is critical for high performance. Aim for seven to nine hours nightly and include mental and physical downtime in your routine.

Examples:

• A calming bedtime routine, like reading, meditation, or a warm bath.

• A consistent sleep schedule, even on weekends.

• No screens at least an hour before bed.

Tip: Use sleep trackers, upgrade your bedding, or try weighted blankets to improve sleep quality.

3. Exercise: Move Your Body with Purpose

Regular physical activity boosts energy, mood, and health. Include a mix of cardio, strength training, and mobility exercises tailored to your fitness level and wellness goals.

Examples:

• Cardio: Brisk walking, jogging, or cycling four to five times weekly.

• Strength training: Bodyweight or weightlifting exercises two to three times weekly.

• Flexibility: Stretching or yoga to improve mobility and reduce tension.

Tip: Schedule workouts as non-negotiable appointments in your calendar. Plan your weekly routine each Sunday to stay consistent.

4. Stress Relief: Manage and Mitigate Stress

Chronic stress impacts performance, health, and happiness. Daily stress-relief practices help build resilience, mental clarity, and optimism.

Examples:

• Practice mindfulness or meditation for ten minutes each morning, preferably outdoors.

•Take breaks to breathe deeply or go for a walk.

• Process emotions through journaling or conversations with a coach, therapist, or trusted friend.

• Engage in joyful hobbies or community work.

Tip: Techniques like EFT tapping or breathwork can provide quick relief during stressful moments.

5. Supplementation: Support Your Body’s Needs

Supplements can fill nutritional gaps and enhance health. Consult a healthcare provider or wellness coach to find what’s right for you. Examples:

• Multivitamins for essential nutrients.

• Omega-3 fatty acids for brain and heart health.

• Magnesium for relaxation and sleep.

• Vitamin D for limited sun exposure.

• Advanced supplements to improve cellular health, like NAD or natural GLP-1. Tip: Set daily reminders to take supplements consistently.

Mastering Time Management:

Plan Your 168 Hours

8 Tips to Navigate Marketing for Small

Business Owners in 2025

As we approach 2025, the marketing landscape for small businesses is rapidly evolving. With constant advancements in technology and shifting consumer behavior, it is essential for small business owners to adapt their marketing strategies to stay relevant and competitive. In this blog, we will explore some key insights and trends that small business owners should consider as they navigate the marketing landscape in 2025.

1. Embracing the Digital Shift

Digital transformation has been underway for years and continues to shape the marketing strategies of small businesses. As we enter 2025, an online presence is no longer optional—it’s imperative. Small business owners need to prioritize their digital footprint, encompassing a mobile-friendly website, active social media presence, and leveraging e-commerce platforms to reach a broader audience.

2. Personalization and Consumer Experience

In 2025, personalized marketing will be a gamechanger for small businesses. Consumers are seeking more customized experiences, and businesses that can cater to their individual needs and preferences will stand out. Utilizing data analytics and customer relationship management tools will enable small business owners to tailor their marketing efforts and enhance the overall consumer experience.

3. Leveraging Artificial Intelligence and Automation

The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and automation into marketing strategies will allow small businesses to streamline processes and operate more efficiently. AI-driven analytics can provide valuable insights into consumer behavior, enabling businesses to make data-driven decisions. Automation tools can streamline repetitive tasks, so small business owners can focus on more strategic aspects of their marketing efforts.

4. Video Content Dominance

Video content will continue to dominate the marketing sphere in 2025. Small business owners should invest in creating engaging and authentic video content to connect with their audience. Whether through social media platforms, email marketing, or website integration, video content has the power to capture attention and convey brand messages effectively.

5. Sustainability and Social Responsibility

As consumers become increasingly conscious of sustainability and social responsibility, small businesses must communicate their commitment to these values. Highlighting environmentally friendly practices, ethical sourcing, and community initiatives resonates with socially conscious consumers and contributes to a positive brand image.

6. Influencer Collaboration

Influencer marketing is projected to continue its momentum in 2025, especially for small businesses looking to expand their reach. Collaborating with relevant influencers can help small business owners tap into new audiences and build credibility for their brand. Authentic partnerships with influencers who align with their brand values can yield significant returns.

7. Community Engagement and Local SEO

Community engagement and local search engine optimization (SEO) will be critical for small businesses in 2025. Establishing a strong local presence, participating in community events, and optimizing local SEO to appear in relevant search results can drive foot traffic and create a loyal customer base within the community.

8. Agile and Adaptive Marketing

The marketing landscape is dynamic, and small businesses need to adopt agile and adaptive marketing practices to stay responsive to changes in consumer behavior and industry trends. Flexibility and the ability to pivot marketing strategies based on real-time feedback will be instrumental in staying competitive and relevant.

As small business owners gear up for 2025, the ever-evolving marketing landscape will demand a strategic blend of digital prowess, consumercentric approaches, technological integration, and a strong emphasis on authenticity and community. Embracing these trends and insights will empower small businesses to navigate the marketing terrain successfully and position themselves for growth and sustainability in the years ahead.
