HEPHAESTUS is the Greek name for the Roman god of the forge, Vulcan. Birmingham has the world’s largest iron statue, that of the Roman god, Vulcan. We named our Starfleet chapter the Hephaestus to give us ties to our city and to Star Trek, which has had its own Vulcan since 1966. Hephaestus forged armor and weapons for the gods. We create our own “armor and weapons” here, in our newsletter, so it is called The Anvil.

Since Star Trek into Darkness is coming out in May on the weekend of our social it has been decided to go see it that Saturday. We plan to eat afterwards. If you have a particular theater you like or eating place then get your vote in now. Right now we are looking at the Rave in Patton Creek as we can go to the Food court in the Mall to eat afterwards. Ship’s Log March 16, 2013 SocialThe social was moved from March 9, 2013 (the second Saturday of the Month) to March 16, 2013 due to a conflict with Regional Summit this year. The Group enjoyed pizza and other refreshments. Brenda and I showed a knew game which we learned at Summit call “Five Crowns” Attendance: people. Also your personal updates can give your Captain added info to help get you recognition and an award at summit for your accomplishments.
Starfleet Marine Corps Greetings, The 654th MSG is looking for members. There is a completely different set of Academy schools for those trying to get the Boothby awards. There is no pressure in joining. There are two categories: Active which means all ranks will be Marine ranks, and Reserve which mean you stay primary Fleet and only use Marine ranks when doing marine stuff. Star Trek News Star Trek Into Darkness Pre Ticket Sales The pre-sale of Star Trek into Darkness crashed the United Kingdom’s online ticket system. It was reported that the sales of the tickets online was 10 time the norm. The problem even had Paramount Pictures UK tweeting a phone number to get pre-sale tickets while the online system was down.
Dog that inspired name of Archer’s Dog dies. Porthos, Captain Archer’s Dog on Star Trek Enterprise, was named after a dog owned by Brannon Braga’s nephew. The nephew’s dog died the week of April 7, 2013. Brannon tweeted this information startling many fans think that the show’s dog had died. We wish to give our condolences Brannon’s nephew in the loss of his beloved pet. TV guide celebrate 60 years with Star Trek cover. TV guide will celebrate 60 years with collectable covers. The 6 covers are composed of a mosaic of covers from the 6 different decades. Star Trek mosaic is representing the TV guides published in the 60’s. The other 5 covers are I Love Lucy (50’s), Mary Tyler Moore Show (70’s), The Cosby Show (80’s), The Simpsons (90’s) and Lost (00’s). Mirina Sirtis lands role on “NCIS” Mirina Sirtis, Counselor Troi of Star Trek: TNG, has landed the role of Mossad Director Orli Elbaz on the television drama NCIS. She is expected to appear sometime in April.
