E d i t o r ’ s desk Dear Readers, The printing industry in India is currently experiencing many transitions, the latest in the form of Digital Printing. Digital printing branded as ‘New Business Printing’ is a key area on the rise. Demands from the print customers are increasingly being met with digital printing and related services. The Printing industry is no different. Many segments of the printing industry have already adopted digital as a supplement to, or replacement for offset printing, and experts think that digital printing will experience remarkable growth over the next few years. That sort of growth cannot be ignored, even by small-to-midsize quick print shops that have been printing offset successfully for many years and have been slower to embrace digital. There’s no doubt that new value-added services are the lifeblood of the printing industry, and will become even more critical in the decade to come. Graphic arts service providers need to offer more than just ink on paper, because their customers’ businesses are demanding it. Ignoring value-added services such as consulting, mailing and fulfillment, pre-press services, and variable information printing will be perilous, as more and more printers develop these non‐traditional competencies to be more competitive. The printers that have begun to adopt these services are already seeing key benefits, including improved customer satisfaction, increased profitable revenue and an expanded customer base. While implementing these services may seem daunting, printers won’t have to do it alone.

Brother International Belgium Forges MPS Pact with EuroForm

partnership regarding Managed Print Services (MPS). Danish EuroForm is a supplier of printer fleet management solutions and related services with over 11 million devices worldwide under contract. Nowadays it seems that many companies have a reasonable view of their IT infrastructure, in particular, the desktops, laptops and servers. Often these assets are monitored by internal or external IT-employees either provided as a cloud service. How many companies can say whether the printers cover the exact needs of the workgroups in which they are placed? How much each printer prints, how many color prints, and what the costs of ink and paper are? What about the safety of these information carriers? “Collecting data alone is not enough. Understanding and making decisions based on the right information – with which partners and end users can be helped – is the real added value”, says Mark Kouwenberg, Sales Director of EuroForm A/S. “Where Managed Print Services initially concerned the consolidation of devices and the realization of initial savings, today, sustainability, security, continuity and supporting day-to-day processes are of paramount importance to the end user.”To meet this change, Brother is now offering JetAdvice solutions and services to its partners and customers. JetAdvice Manager is the printer fleet management solution with which Brother and its partners can monitor print environments and transform this data into added value for customers. The new reporting portal, JetAdvice Premium, provides these action-oriented reports covering the entire MPS life cycle. This allows Brother to add tangible value from all collected data to their customers and partners. According to Frank Deneweth, managing director of Brother International Belgium NV/SA, the greatest asset of JetAdvice is that it works completely vendor independent. “Companies often have a diversified printing environment with devices from different manufacturers. While our own MPS software only works with Brother devices, thanks to JetAdvice we can now

offer a versatile solution to our partners and customers.”

Ricoh and Cisco Enter a Strategic Partnership to Empower Digital Workplaces

Ricoh Co. Ltd. and Cisco Systems G.K. have announced a global strategic partnership aimed at providing cloud solutions to empower digital workplaces that deliver increased productivity in a more secure environment. The two companies will jointly develop solutions that deliver simpler and more secure environments in three layers (cloud, network and device) to promote digital transformation and improve productivity. Companies are faced with the significant challenge of improving productivity by using the latest in digital technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT). While many companies are promoting new ways of working, they need to address increasingly diverse workstyles that are not restricted by place or time whilst using cloud and mobile computing. At the same time, security threats such as unauthorized access and information leakage are increasingly vicious and sophisticated. To address the advance of cyber attacks entails expertise and huge costs for companies. Small- and mediumsized businesses that cannot afford to have

dedicated IT administrators as well as larger enterprises spread across multiple locations need a solution to maintain and manage a secure environment more simply at a low cost.

DocuWare Introduces its U.S. Cloud Partner Program

DocuWare introduces its U.S. Cloud Partner Program following a year of exceptional cloud expansion and the successful launch of a similar program in Germany. Currently hosting 2,000 cloud customers, the company is committed to staying well ahead of demand for cloud installations. The market potential for cloud solutions is huge. DocuWare believes that eventually all businesses will need to digitize their core processes in order to drive cost efficiency and align with compliance regulations. The cloud is the optimal platform for businesses of any size as it demands zero investment in hardware, allows for fast deployment and requires low maintenance costs. With multiple layers of backup and automated software updates, business continuity is not compromised. Factoring in this fast-growing cloud demand, DocuWare’s new program will invite new partners to focus on preconfigured cloud solutions. Small tech companies who already provide IT services are strong candidates for this program because they either already sell cloud-based software or are seeking to add strong cloud solutions to their portfolio. For smaller providers with high expertise but limited staff, becoming a DocuWare Cloud Partner will mean efficient use of personnel, wider profit margins, shorter sales cycles and recurring revenues, all of which are key to overall sustainability.“Their small size also makes them agile partners and it is this agility that we want to tap into,” says Max Ertl, DocuWare co-president. “DocuWare Cloud Partner certification gives them access to a large customer pool hungry for cloud solutions. It’s a win-win for both partner and end user.”

AAA Imports Aims to Expand Operations into North-East India A

Mr. Ayush Gupta,

Proprietor, AAA Imports

AA Imports is Kamla Nagar (Delhi) based provider of imaging consumables products, including laser toner powders, compatible laser toner cartridges and laser cartridge parts under their brand name AAA. They also provide OEM products besides their own brand. AAA has recently added copier toner cartridges, copier toner powder and the related consumables to their lineup. Ayush Gupta, Proprietor, AAA Imports, comments, “Our brand AAA is doing well and we focus on providing laserrelated products, but we do not provide inks or ink-related products. Our present areas of operations are mainly in north India (including the states of Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Jammu-Kashmir and UP& Uttaranchal). We are expecting good demand for our recently added copier toner cartridges, copier toner powder and the related consumables to our lineup. Color toner usage is increasing though it forms only a fraction our total business at present. Our main USP is good quality at affordable prices. GST is good for us as it simplified interstate operations and minimized formalities. We import mainly from quality-proven China and Korea. The recent rupee value depreciation has negatively affected our business. We provide imaging products of our own AAA brand and those of OEMs, not of other compatible brands. In the coming months, we want to expand our operations in T2 and T3 cities in North India and also want to expand our presence into East and North-East India, besides focusing on the areas where we are already present, to increase our business. We focus on long-term, stable relationships. We are growing at an annual growth rate of 25%-30% and we are satisfied with our growth and progress so far. In future, we want to add printer machine parts to our portfolio. Main challenge in the market is customers are getting attracted more towards low-priced and low-quality products. There is a need to educate the customers in this regard, they should be made to understand how good quality is more important and benefits in the long-run.”

Shri Ram Enterprises Aims to Promote Image King Aggressively in Saharanpur and Surrounding Towns

Vimal Seth shares, “Our customers come mainly from Saharanpur and the surrounding towns like Roorkee, Rishikesh, Muzaffarnagar, etc. we are growing at an average annual rate of 15%. Color printer consumables sales are very limited in our areas, so we focus only on black printer consumables. Our main selling points are good service, affordable prices and strong relationships based on trust and transparency. Next, we maintain a wide range of products all-underone-roof. The main challenge we are facing is competition from the providers of unbranded and low-quality, cheap products who entering the market, misleading consumers and bringing down MOP. Also, nowadays we see a lot of demand fluctuations in the market which has increased unpredicatability.” Shri Ram Enterprises has been a local partner for the imaging products of Image King brand since 2013. Talking in this regard, Vimal Seth confides, “We sell only two brands: Apple Plus from our sister concern and Image King from Image Star. We are getting very good encouragement from Mr. Masood Khan of Image Star Print Solutions in the form of promotion materials, information booklets, incentive schemes, festive season schemes and so on. Above all, Image King maintains very good quality and transparent policies, so we are very optimistic about Image Kingbrand. In future, we want to expand our business in the surrounding towns like Rishikesh, Muzaffarnagar, Roorkee, etc and promote and establish the two brands–Apple Plus and Image King—strongly in the areas we are operating.”

Canon Solutions America Launches Océ PrintSight Software

C

anon Solutions America, Inc. announced the launch of the new Océ PrintSight software developed by Canon Solutions America to provide print-for-pay businesses an effective tool to monitor their Océ Arizona, Océ Colorado, and Océ ColorWave printers. The Océ PrintSight software will enable print-for-pay business owners and their production staff to closely monitor many important aspects of their Océ Arizona, Océ Colorado, and Océ ColorWave printer fleet from anywhere on their network. Océ PrintSight displays a range of data in an intuitive user interface, allowing for real time reporting on ink usage, media type printed, square footage, print time, machine status, and more. To help better determine production schedules, machine utilization, and identify the printers that still have capacity should print volumes increase, Océ PrintSight provides the amount of time it takes to print an image. Furthermore, it can instantly calculate the cost of a job by enabling print providers to enter their ink cost per liter and media cost. Overall, the combination of Océ printers and the Océ PrintSight software makes for a valuable addition for print providers interested in quickly and easily knowing exactly what is going on in their production environment. Océ PrintSight gives print shop owners details to make informed decisions, allowing them to better utilize their printers and improve profitability while maintaining competitive pricing. “What the Océ PrintSight software has now brought to our customers is more control over their printing environment to better support the dynamic applications they are producing on their Océ devices,” said Robert Reddy, Senior Vice President, Large Format Solutions, Operations, Canon Solutions America. “We have amazed our customers with the incredible Océ technology, and decided to take it one step further by developing a software that would help take productivity to the next level.”

Heritage and Eagle to take W+D envelope printer

S

ister companies Heritage Envelopes and Eagle Envelopes are to install a W+D Halm i-Jet2 envelope printer, the first in England, in a bid to capture the short-run envelopes market. With manufacturing and flexographic printing carried out at Heritage’s base in Blackburn, the i-Jet2 is set to be installed at Eagle’s 10,220sqm printing facility in Walsall in the summer, representing a six-figure investment. Both representing the UK arm of German-headquartered envelopes conglomerate Mayer, Eagle and Heritage will jointly use the new inkjet system to introduce smallvolume, quick-turnaround printed envelope work to its offering – a gap which has previously lost them potential business. Heritage Envelopes sales director Phil Bryan said: “We recognised there is a gap emerging in the market for people who just need 2,000 envelopes or something like that, where most of our orders are usually around 15,000. With our kit, it is not cost-effective to produce a low volume, so we were not capturing those orders and we needed to address that. This machine fills that gap and we hope to catch not only the orders we were losing to competitors but also customers who had not considered printed envelopes before. “We have considered this market for around two years, but we were convinced that the print quality on the machines was not to the standard our customers expect – now, with the i-Jet2 we believe we have found the right tech to launch into this market.”

India HCP Market Touches an All Time High in CY 2018: IDC India Inkjet printer shipments grew by 2.9% YoY with a contribution of 50.0% to overall India HCP market. Growth in inkjet printer shipments was led by Ink tank printers which recorded YoY growth of 10.5%.

I

ndia Hardcopy Peripherals (HCP) market posted yearly shipments of 3.7 million units in CY2018, registering a Year-on-Year (YoY) growth of 5.5%. In 2018Q4 the market posted shipments of approx. 0.85 million units, a YoY decline of 2.6%, as per latest IDC Asia/ Pacific Quarterly Hardcopy Peripherals Tracker, CY2018 Q4. While the months following the festive season, online sale are usually on the lower side but 2018Q4 saw an unusually low demand from the consumer end, a stark contrast with the overall CY2018 trend. “The annual growth was led by Inkjet printers, specifically Ink Tank printers which grew by 21.4% and now command 68.4% of the overall Inkjet market in India. The online sales during 2018Q3 played a significant role in catering to the increased demand from the Consumer and SMB segment. The year ended with the Inkjet market commanding more than half of the HCP market followed closely by Laser,” says Bani Johri, Market Analyst, IPDS, IDC India. “The Laser market also expanded by 3.7% on the back of strong demand from SMBs and Government’s tight monitoring of the refurbished copier market. Government’s increased seizing of illegal units at major ports has given the market players ample opportunities to expand their customer base by targeting the users of these machines with attractive pricing schemes,” adds Johri. Inkjet printer shipments grew by 2.9% YoY with a contribution of 50.0% to overall India HCP market. Growth in inkjet printer shipments was led by Ink tank printers which recorded YoY growth of 10.5%. The overall laser printer market declined YoY by 4.8%. However, the laser copier market continued the growth momentum and registered a healthy YoY growth of 28.2%. The market performed much below the expectations in 2018Q4 because of a combination of factors like excess inventory being carried forward from 2018Q3 owing to a drop in festive buying from consumers, aggravated further by channel partner issues across the country. Demand from SOHOs/SMEs was also reduced because of restricted lending to

26

this segment from the banks. Government spending has also slowed down considerably in anticipation of the upcoming elections.

Top Three Brands: HP Inc. (Excluding Samsung) maintained its leadership in CY2018 HCP market with a market share of 40.2% and a marginal YoY shipment decline of 0.6%. While the inkjet segment slowed down because of decline in ink cartridge-based printer shipments, the laser segment compensated for the same. HP experienced good traction for entry level A4 laser printers due to extensive promotions, schemes and multiple projects. On the Copier side, HP grew significantly in CY2018 with a shipment growth of 202% and a market share of 11.4%. Epson maintained its 2nd position in the overall CY2018 HCP

market with a 15.0% YoY growth and it also continued to hold its leadership in inkjet segment with a unit share of 45.1% and YoY growth of 18.7%. The growth is primarily attributed to the Epson’s channel depth and multiple channel schemes in the first half of the year. Increased promotional activities for the new Ink tank models also contributed to its growth. Canon recorded YoY growth of 12.8% in CY2018 and maintained its 3rd position in the HCP market. In the copier segment, it maintained its leadership position with a 29.1% unit market share. The Government’s strict regulations on the refurbished market coupled with Canon’s increased focus on the corporate segment helped to maintain its dominance in the copier market. In the Inkjet market, Canon saw strong YoY growth of 39.7% because of its increased focus on the ink tank segment through attractive channel schemes, End-user promotions and increased promotional campaigns. “IDC expects the overall HCP market to decline in 2019Q1 due to weak consumer and SMB sentiment. While overall inkjet market is expected to decline, Ink tank printers are likely to be the only bright spot in 2019Q1 as vendors continue pushing them aggressively. Moreover, the Government segment is likely to withhold on spending before the general elections leading to decline in demand for laser printers. Despite decline in government spending, demand for laser copiers is expected to remain steady owing to continued crackdown of refurbished copier market by government,” says Nishant Bansal, Research Manager, IPDS & PC, IDC India.

The main challenge in the market is the competition from low-cost, cheap quality products and illegal suppliers who trade without paying taxes are corrupting the market. Though GST has reduced the illegal trade, still grey market has a significant share. However, we overcome this challenge with our brand reputation.” Other strengths of PRM include experienced and efficient top management, excellent employee retention policies & programs, cordial and strong relations with trade partners, giving top priority to customer satisfaction, offering latest products, and offering best-in-class service facilities. Regarding future plans and the message he wants to give to the partners, Ashish Sanghvi adds, “My message to traders and resellers is that they should stop purchasing and selling low-quality, cheap products and focus only on purchasing high quality products from the suppliers operating in white. Cheap products may be beneficial in the short-run but cost more in the long-run. We are happy with our success in the last 25 years and looking forward to a bright future.
