editor’S deSk Dear Readers, As per the latest IDC’s Asia/Pacific Quarterly Hardcopy Peripherals Tracker, CY2019Q1India HCP market posted quarterly shipments of 0.85 million units in 2019Q1, with a decline of 4.1 percent on a year-on-year (YoY) basis,. The decline was primarily because of the slowdown in both consumer and commercial demand. Despite a slowdown in demand, Inkjet printer shipments grew YoY by 5.6 percent led primarily by Epson. The growth was led by Ink tank printers which recorded YoY growth of 21.2 percent, the highest growth in the last five quarters. While the overall laser printer market declined YoY by 11.9 percent, the copier segment grew by 19.4 percent YoY and recorded the highest shipment ever. The copier market grew on the back of strong demand from government and government’s continued tight monitoring of the refurbished copier market. HP Inc. (Excluding Samsung) maintained its leadership in the HCP market with a share of 37.7 percent while its shipment declined by 7.6 percent YoY. The decline was primarily led by the inkjet segment, which declined by 11.6 percent YoY, due to muted demand from the consumer market even though multiple end-user and channel schemes were active. In the inkjet segment,

Lexmark Partners With PrintReleaf to Offer Automated Sustainability Program
Lexmark has partnered with PrintReleaf to offer customers an automated sustainability program focused on reforestation. Through PrintReleaf, Lexmark customers can now reforest their paper consumption by planting an equivalent volume of trees in certified forestry projects around the world. The patented PrintReleaf technology measures total paper consumption through device and fleet data collected by print management software on Lexmark print devices. Total paper consumption is converted into an
equivalent number of trees which are then automatically and certifiably planted around the world. PrintReleaf also monitors reforestation partners to ensure fulfillment. PrintReleaf reforests at a rate of 8,333 sheets of paper per standard tree which is openly detailed in the PrintReleaf Standard. Lexmark customers may choose their reforestation sites or allow the software to automatically choose for them. Additionally, Lexmark customers may track their progress as well as share the ongoing impact through social media, all from their own online PrintReleaf portal. “Our partnership with PrintReleaf further underscores Lexmark’s commitment to innovation, transparency, and the environment,” said John Gagel, senior manager of global corporate sustainability. “Lexmark is already a customer and now we are excited to partner with PrintReleaf and leverage their automated sustainability program to provide our customers a solution for neutralizing paper waste and sustaining our global forests.” “PrintReleaf is pleased to partner with Lexmark and expand our global footprint,” said Jordan Darragh, PrintReleaf founder and CEO. “We share the same common interest to strengthen sustainability

New-Build GOLD Line Cartridges from LD Products Receive Positive Independent Third-Party Testing Results from Buyers Lab
The Channel Partner Division of consumable giant LD Products is pleased to announce that they have just received official Buyers Lab (BLI) Test Results on two very popular laser printer series used in MPS environments. The LD team released the test results to dealers at the industry’s largest trade show, ITEX, this week in Las Vegas. “This third-party testing is groundbreaking in the aftermarket, as previously only one remanufacturer (Clover) has ever published the results of BLI Independent testing. We already know how well our GOLD Line performs in our lab, we also recently published a series of testimonials from leading dealers as to the results they saw in their fleets, and now we have irrefutable data of how our cartridges performed against OEM in a head to head test by the industry’s leading third-party testing organization,” stated Christian Pepper, president of the LD Products Channel Partner Division. “This report further positions the LD Gold Line

as a clear leader in the aftermarket supplies industry and we are excited to share the results of BLI’s testing with our customers.” “Dealers know and trust BLI’s extensive testing methodology and, to our knowledge, this is the first time that any new-build or extended yield cartridges have successfully completed BLI’s testing. Now that we have these reports, we’re excited to refute the misleading claims made by OEMs and remanufacturers with fact-based information about how well our GOLD Line new-build cartridges perform in both reliability and yield attainment,” added Matt Daniel, vice president, Product Development. To complete the testing objectively and from a true enduser perspective, BLI confidentially sourced print cartridges from dealers throughout Q1 2019 and compared them to the genuine OEM cartridges. The process of evaluation took one month, with devices running at accelerated volumes and using an industry standard target, to accurately compare the cartridges on print quality, yield and overall value.
Toshiba Recycles Record-Setting Amount of E-Waste in 2018
Toshiba America Business Solutions recycled more than 229 metric tons of e-waste – stemming from used toner products – in 2018. The total marks the highest amount of e-waste the company has recycled in a calendar year. Since partnering with internationally-
recognized recycler Close the Loop in 2008, Toshiba has prevented more than 1,229 metric tons – the equivalent weight of 10,712 average-sized professional football players – of e-waste from hitting landfills. Through Toshiba’s ecoSmart Toner Recycling program, the company’s spent imaging products are transformed into reusable material via a zerothermal recovery process. These components are often incorporated within future products thereby contributing to the circular economy.

Powder recovered from recycled toner cartridges is a primary element in an asphalt product to resurface roads. Plastic from spent toner consumables is also used to create pens and rulers.“Fostering and maintaining a sustainable environment in the communities where we live and work is a signature mandate of Toshiba as well as a primary directive for many of our partner and client organizations,” stated Toshiba America Business Solutions President and CEO Scott Maccabe. “While our
leadership and workforce are pleased with the success of our recycling program, we strive to continue our commitment and improvement to this vitally important initiative.” Toshiba’s toner recycling program is a primary reason the company’s award-winning e-STUDIO multifunction printers are listed on the EPEAT (Electronic Products Environmental Assessment Tool) registry, the definitive global rating system for greener electronics.

We have just started our company and we are going to add more brands in future. The imaging industry is still poorly organized and channel networks are often weakly connected. In 2 years from now, we want to establish Tanya International as a one-stop-destination for all the imaging products of best brands. Our merits are best service and prompt delivery. They also provide brand new HP photocopier machines. Rambir Singh, Managing Director, Bhagwati Technology, shares, “Good quality and prompt service are our main selling points. Compared to the quality we give, our products are competitively priced, though they are not too cheap as low-quality market products. SecuraShield’s ant-virus is selling well and that will be one of our main focus products in the coming times. Our customers come mainly from UP, Uttaranchal, Rajasthan and Haryana. We do not have any serious challenges and we are satisfied with our growth. Recently, we opened our well-equipped warehouse in Noida (UP) in a 1500 meter area which will help us increase availability and ensure prompt delivery. Sagar International Continuously Strengthening their Presence in Udaipur and Upcountry Areas
Sagar International, founded by its Proprietor, Sanjjeev Verdia, in 2007 in Udaipur (Rajasthan) is a regional distributor of a wide range of IT and imaging products. Their product range includes PCs and laptops and the related hardware; peripherals like Keyboards, mice, a variety of cables, pen drives; networking and CCTV products; printer consumables, etc. Sagar International is an authorized channel partner and
distributor the leading compatible imaging consumable brands like ProDot, ITDL, Aryan, Odyssey, Q-Cartridge, etc. They also deal in IT products of renowned brands like Zebion, Lapcare, HP, Canon, Samsung, Dell, Toshiba, Intex, Lenovo, D-Link, Zebronics,
Logitech, iBall, NPAV, Quick Heal, etc. Sanjjeev Verdia shares, “As far as inks are concerned we sell only OEM products, no compatibles. We also sell brand new printers of different brands. On color side, inkjet inks, particularly of Epson brand, are selling well. Our main selling point is we keep all the leading brands and a wide range of products. We have nearly 200 partners and we sell only through partners and no direct selling as far as compatible products are concerned. Most of our resellers come from Udaipur and upcountry areas. We also do printer repairing and cartridge refilling services. We sell only high quality products, and no cheap quality, low-priced market products. Our rates are reasonable and our deals are transparent. One challenge we are facing is, earlier we used to sell products of some brands as an exclusive distributor, but now these brands have started selling directly even in small remote towns making our distribution efforts meaningless and that has cut into our revenues too. Also added to this, There is too much of competition in IT and printer consumables industry. GST seems to be a good measure. In future, we just want to focus on whatever we are doing now to improve our business.”

Canon Expands UVgel Printer Family with New Ocè Colorado 1650
Canon U.S.A., Inc. is pleased to announce the new Océ Colorado 1650 large format graphics printer, expanding the family of roll-to-roll devices featuring Canon UVgel technology. The Océ Colorado 1650 introduces Océ FLXfinish technology that enables both matte and gloss print finishes, a new ink, increased media and application versatility and a fully integrated double-sided printing feature. This new 64-inch production graphics printer builds on the breakthrough productivity, output quality, ink savings and automation of its predecessor, the Océ Colorado 1640. This new product delivers optimal performance for print service providers (PSPs), producing applications such as self-adhesive vinyl, canvas, wall-coverings and front- and back-lit graphics that require a high degree of flexibility for finishing, mounting and framing. The Océ Colorado 1650 incorporates Océ FLXfinish technology, a new approach to LED curing which allows the operator to choose between a matte or gloss output for each individual print to achieve different finishes – without the need to change inks or media. A growing number of end users prefer the look and reduced reflections of a matte print finish, especially for interior wall covering and art applications.Océ FLXfinish technology also enhances the performance of the Océ Colorado 1650 model with more porous media, including uncoated papers and soft signage materials such as polyester textiles and silicon- edged graphics media, by enabling each ink droplet to be ‘fixed’ immediately on jetting, preventing absorption by the substrate. In addition, the Colorado 1650 is supported by a new version of Canon UVgel ink. This ink is formulated for application flexibility by increasing the ‘stretchability’ of each cured ink droplet, resulting in output optimal for applications that require cutting, bending, creasing and folding without risk of cracking. Print service providers can further expand their media and application range with an integrated double-sided printing feature and support for both print-sideout and -in media, further boosting productivity and versatility.“Canon UVgel technology enables print providers to offer their customers the optimal blend of high productivity, fantastic output quality, exceptional application versatility and a very low cost of ownership,” says Shinichi Yoshida, executive vice president and general manager, Canon U.S.A., Inc. “Based on the positive feedback from our customers and channel partners, our R&D team has focused on delivering a second 64-inch printer that maximizes the popular production advantages of this UVgel technology, while elevating performance for media and applications.”

With Lexmark CPI, customers access a modern, secure print environment through a subscription service in which they pay for print capacity rather than owning and managing the physical infrastructure. and then Precision Digital prints the provided sheets and sends them back to customers, who then convert them to the finished product. “This service allows corrugated box companies to outsource to us without tying up capital in the investment themselves,” according to Justin Best, who is Troy’s cousin. “The converting houses we have already started to partner with see us as a supplemental resource, not competition, because we don’t do any converting.”The Bests started Precision Digital Printing last September, with the family spending several months constructing a 100,000 square foot facility designed to house both the new Nozomi and a second Nozomi press the company anticipates purchasing in the future. “The building is constructed in a mirror-image fashion,” Justin Best explained. “We have loading docks on each side and we constructed a custom conveyor system so sheets coming off the press go right to strapping, are married up with paperwork and are immediately ready for shipping. “We are just getting production up and running now but will have 20 to 25 employees once we get ramped up,” he added. “We hope to run a second shift within eight months and be in a position to add the second Nozomi sometime after that.”Printing at speeds up to 246 linear feet (75 linear meters) per minute, the 71-inch (1.8-meter) wide EFI Nozomi C18000 can produce up to 10,000 35×35-inch (890×890mm) boards per hour two-up. Users can print at rated press speeds on an extensive range of board thicknesses, from N-flute to double-wall, including foam core, reboard, Coroplast, and traditional Kemi, mottled, bleach and kraft materials. The press also provides a sustainability advantage as the only ultra-high-speed, single-pass corrugated inkjet production device to have its output certified for OCC recyclability and repulpability by the Western Michigan University Recycling, Paper and Coating Pilot Plant – a leading certification organization for corrugated recycling.

Latex offers so much more in the way of textiles, acrylic, styrene, and coroplast without the challenge of heat warp and other environmental issues of UV printing,” said Bob Green, president and owner at PCI Graphics. “We are capable of offering the client a full range of possibilities.”The installation of the HP Latex R 2000 Plus Printers, replacing older HP models, has quadrupled production capacity for signage. The HP R 2000 Plus supports true hybrid printing of rigid and flexible materials with roll-to-roll production. The printers use the new HP Latex white ink, a true, glossy white that maintains its color over time without yellowing. The HP Latex R series offers vibrant HP Latex color at unparalleled speed on rigid materials while preserving media gloss and feel, printing with no smell. Rigid substrates include paper foamboard, plastic foamboard, PVC foam, plastic corrugated, acrylic, polycarbonate, compressed cardboard, corrugated board, honeycomb board, aluminum composite panel, wood, glass, and ceramic. Flexible substrates include PVC banner, self-adhesive vinyl, coated paper, polyester, and canvas. Unlike UV printing technology, which creates a thick layer of ink that completely covers the material, HP’s waterbased Latex Inks preserve the look and feel of the media, and delivers odorless prints that are both safe for the environment and the printer operator.
