Editor’s Desk Dear Readers, According to the IDC Asia/Pacific Quarterly Large Format Printer Tracker, 2018Q1, the large format printer (LFP) market in India grew 11.7% quarter-on-quarter and 38.5% year on year in Q1 2018, with shipments reaching at 2,954 units. Shipments in the large format CAD/Technical printer market segment grew 17.7% quarter-on-quarter and 55.2% year-on-year, driven by strong growth in single-pass CAD inkjet printers in the large format aqueous-based printer segment. On the other hand, shipments on the graphics side were up by 7.6% quarter-on-quarter and 28.3% year-on-year. Though solvent printers dominate the total graphics market but aqueous, UV and Latex were key driver of this growth. Demonetization, GSTs and RERA have affected the real estate market in 2017. As market is stabilizing in 2018 and further government has announced various infrastructure projects, this has fueled shipment of CAD printers in India. HP remained market leader with unit market share of 68.5%, followed by Canon and Epson.

n e w s u p d at e RISO “Change the Conversation” Roadshow Coming to Atlanta
The RISO Roadshow is underway. June 12 will be the second of four “Change the Conversation” Roadshows, an event for RISO dealers only that (among other things) looks at the impact of Inkjet on the print industry.
Featured dealers from all over the Southern Region of the country will be meeting in Atlanta at the Atlanta Airport Westin Hotel for this event, which is filling up quickly. The first leg of the national tour was held at the Philadelphia Marriott Hotel on May 3-4 and featured dealers from RISO’s Eastern Region of the country. From Maine to Virginia, over 40 dealer principals, managers and salespeople discussed how to effectively position Inkjet as a solution that helps “bridge the gap” between Monochrome and Color.Somewhere in between that B/W office cpc of 1.2 cents and 6.5 cents for color lies an opportunity to fit a 90 page per minute Inkjet RISO printer that offers color at less than half of what toner costs. Production Print was another hot topic on the agenda as the industry begins its shift from toner to inkjet. What was once a technology for high volume Transactional print outlets alone is now filtering into midsize commercial printers, as well as in-plants. RISO remains the most affordable of all production inkjet options. It wasn’t all work. RISO staff and Dealers had a chance to see the Philadelphia skyline from the top of the
R2L Restaurant in the city’s downtown area. It was a chance for some dealers to catch up and for others to form new relationships. Most importantly, everyone walked away with a sense of how advantageous it is to offer end users a complete solution that involves feature-rich MFP’s in tandem with the speed and economy of RISO Inkjet color output. As the roadshow moves on into Atlanta, look for more details on RISO’s upcoming dealer events in Los Angeles and Chicago, happening later this year.

n e w s u p d at e Xerox Managed Print Services Opens Doors for Multi-Vendor Print Dealer
Bishop Business Equipment has cracked the code on how to engage organizations once considered too big or complex for the typical dealer to support. Using Xerox’s Managed Print Services (MPS) offering, Bishop is now winning those opportunities and experiencing double digit MPS growth rates.“While service level agreements are critical, the priority for businesses is overall control of the enterprise. And that’s what we
realized in a recent MPS deal Bishop signed with an international Fortune 1000 company based in its territory. The client, who Bishop had outreached to for more than 10 years, was working with another vendor when new management sought a standard operating model worldwide – typically available only from manufacturers. However, when Bishop told management about his Xerox partnership, he said, “It was an instant door opener.”“Channel partners offering MPS are at a distinct advantage in terms of winning new business and retaining existing clients,” said Darren Cassidy, president, U.S. Channels Unit, Xerox. “MPS up-levels the conversation allowing partners to demonstrate their relevancy as a strategic, forward-thinking resource.”
Clover Services Group Partners with Boxscore as Part of the TechLink 2.0 Platform can provide with Xerox,” said Dave Bishop, president and chief executive officer, Bishop Business Equipment. That was not always the case at Bishop with offices in Omaha and Lincoln, Nebraska. Their early MPS iterations were more modest, with contracts based upon cost per page or covering toner as well as print devices. However, two developments upped their game. One was hiring an MPS specialist to give the program more focus and the other was working with Xerox Partner Print Services, expanding Bishop’s MPS depth and reach.“By leveraging Xerox’s tools, their global experience and the top ratings received from industry analyst firms, it is obvious this is the company you want as an MPS partner,” Bishop said. “Whatever the situation, we can make it work by pulling the resources we need from Xerox.”The value of the partnership was

sales tool like BoxScore to our customers. As we continue to enhance our Techlink 2.0 services platform, we will roll out even more services like BoxScore to help our dealers increase customer retention while driving higher profitability,” said Chris Sinibaldi, SVP TechLink Service and Training for Clover Services Group.“BoxScore is a perfect complement to TechLink’s existing services portfolio. CIG Releases White Paper on Remanufactured Cartridges Versus Newly Built Compatible Cartridges
For more than 20 years, the office product industry has seen major growth in remanufactured print cartridges. Dealers have always sought lower-cost alternatives to Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) cartridges, and Clover Imaging Group (CIG) remanufactured cartridges have proven to be the best option. For some sellers
concerned primarily with cost, newly built compatible cartridges have become a tempting option. In its newly released white paper, CIG takes a close look at the legal, quality, and environmental risks that must be considered when choosing between a remanufactured and newly built compatible print consumable.“We would like office equipment suppliers and managed print service vendors to be aware of the risks that are involved with purchasing newly built compatible cartridges,” said Luke Goldberg, EVP Global Sales and Marketing at CIG. “CIG strongly believes that our remanufactured cartridges are better quality and more environmentally sustainable than newly built compatible cartridges while respecting OEM intellectual property rights.

Remanufacturing the
HP LaserJet M15, MFP M28 Series toner cartridge CF248A
By Mike Josiah and the Technical Staff at Uninet
I
n March 2018, Hewlett Packard released the LaserJet Pro M15 series of printers. The M201 series of laser printers are based on a 19 ppm, 600 x 600dpi engine with a first page out in under 8.1 seconds. The CF248A toner cartridge is rated for 1000 pages. The printer itself has a very small foot print, in fact HP states it has the smallest footprint for a laser in its class. It’s a nice small office/home machine. The memory is fixed and not expandable at 16Mb. The recommended monthly volume is from 1001000 pages/month. The printer when new comes with a starter cartridge that is rated for 500 pages at 5% coverage. It’s interesting in light of recent lawsuits with HP that the spec sheet has this statement: “Dynamic security enabled printer. Only intended to be used with cartridges using an HP original chip. Cartridges using a non-HP chip may not work, and those that work today may not work in the future.” So far there are just a few printers based on this engine. The Pro M15, M15W, M16, MFP M28 and the MFP M29

“Youngsters should enter the imaging industry with a will to learn and work with integrity to provide quality products”
G
reenlam Office Solutions, based out of New Delhi, is a leading provider of office supplies, under their brand name GROWLAM, with a wide distribution network spread across all the major cities and towns in India. GROWLAM’s comprehensive range of products includes lamination machines, laminating pouch film and rolls, spiral binding machines, PVC Dragon sheet, inkjet photo paper, laser toner cartridges and consumables. Gaurav Khetterpal, Director of Greenlam, an MBA (from Wales, UK), is a young and dynamic entrepreneur with a long-term vision. Expressing his opinions on pricecompetition, challenges, GST and growth trend in the imaging consumables industry, Gaurav Khetterpal comments, “The demand for printers and consumables has always seen an upward trend. The estimated annual market for toner is presently around 3600 tonnes which is expected to grow by at least 20% in FY 2018-19. The biggest challenge has been the price-competition where people in the unorganized sector have been selling products by lowering the quality and the cost. Now, with the GST being implemented, we are witnessing the shift of customer base from unorganised to the organised sector, thereby resulting in an increase of sales in the organized sector and the grey market started gradually shrinking. The GST law has given a lot of clarity to all the business owners, their distributors and dealers. The implementation of E-way bill is also a great initiative by the government in further strengthening the system.” Another challenge is to convince the customer to try something new, say a new brand, when he is already loyal to some brand. In this regard, Gaurav Khetterpal states, “We explain our customers about the USPs of our products. Also, all our products have a uniform price structure

few months back we came up with an exclusive multi-laminator machine with inbuilt paper cutter and corner rounder, sourced from the best laminator factory with European standards. Also, we have come up with a new range of products such as sublimation paper, T-Shirt transfer paper and inkjet fusing sheet which are getting very good acceptability from the market. We are coming up with a complete range of MFD and laser toner powders to be launched in the coming months. We have created Management Systems based on Amazon model, which ensure timely
Mr. Gaurav Khetterpal, Director, Greenlam Office Solutions wherever they are available in the country which is necessary to make the customer feel clear and confident. Next, we provide products based on the needs of each region.” Regarding the role he personally wants to play to make the Indian imaging industry organized and recognized and growing e-waste, Gaurav Khetterpal reveals, “All the players in the industry should pledge to bring and sell only the best quality products with longer shelf-life. Next, e-waste which contains hazardous substances is harmful to humans and also to animals. We need to educate people how to recycle or dispose of safely the used products. This kind of initiatives will give recognition to our Indian imaging industry globally and elevate the status of Indian imaging industry Regarding their initiatives and the products they launched recently and their future plans, Gaurav Khetterpal adds, “A
dispatch and delivery of our products, and keeping a track of product movement, to ensure best service. We have also drawn special schemes for our esteemed partners to motivate them to perform better. In the next 5 years, we want to be one of market leaders in the imaging industry, with the support of our esteemed partners.” Talking on how the printer consumables sector can attract youth as entrepreneurs, providers and buyers, Gaurav Khetterpal concludes, “We need more youngsters who are willing to enter this industry and learn to provide products and services to the end users. I would like to convey a message to the young-gen that if they choose a career in the Imaging Industry, they should be patient, learn gradually instead of looking for shortcuts, focus on quality and work with integrity. Then they will definitely get amazing results in the future.”

38
In an interaction with Imaging Solution magazine, Ashish Sanghvi shares, “We have customers all over India, in all major cities and towns. We started in 1994 with providing computer hardware but in 2002 switched over to providing printer parts and now we are no longer selling computer hardware. We import mainly from standard manufacturers in China, Hong Kong, Singapore, USA, etc. We also sell in bulk without brand name which others purchase and sell under their own brand names.” The company’s vendors utilize high-quality basic components and latest machines, in compliance with the industry standards to provide a wide array of printer parts. Premier Computers business operations are backed by talented team members, who include engineers, R&D professionals, quality controllers, skilled / semi-skilled staff, warehousing, packaging and delivery staff and sales & marketing executives, who work hard to attain the firm’s objectives through their wide knowledge in their respective field. The company imparts training to their team members on regular basis to enhance their knowledge and keep them updated on the latest marketing activities. Ashish Sanghvi comments, “Our USPs are we provide only quality products, our prices are affordable and we import from only quality providers from abroad. We maintain strong reputation and long-term relationships with clients;and deliver products within the limited time periods. Growing at an annual rate of around 30% with pan-India customerbase, we have a network of over 100 well-connected dealers. GST has a positive effect on our business and our
revenues have seen significant increase in the last one year. The main challenge in the market is the competition from low-cost, cheap quality products and illegal suppliers who trade without paying taxes are corrupting the market. GST has significantly reduced the illegal trade and the operators like us who trade only in legal ways could operate more peacefully and successfully.” The other strengths of Premier Computers include experienced and efficient top management, excellent employee retention policies & programs, cordial and strong relations with IT trade partners, giving top priority to customer satisfaction, offering innovative and latest products, and best-in-class service facilities. Regarding future plans and the message that he would like to give, Ashish Sanghvi adds, “My message to traders and resellers is that they should stop purchasing and selling lowquality, cheap products. Instead, they should buy and sell only high quality products and from those suppliers who operate in white. Cheap products may be beneficial in the short run but cost more in the long-run for users and also to the providers. In future, we want to widen our product range by adding more products and establish PRM brand strongly on pan-India basis.” Premier Computers’ wide arrays of products are tested by their vendors through several stages of quality control procedures to offer products of high durability, performance, sturdiness and resistance to damage. Due to total quality management (TQM), the company today is able to offer their customers the best quality printer parts.
